Sterek Drabble - Hogwarts AU

In this AU, Stiles figures out that Derek and Professor Argent are having inappropriate relations, and being the Sheriff's kid he is–he decides to do something about it.

I sort of have this whole story planned out, but I have yet to write it. But since I have a lab report due on Sunday, there is no better time to procrastinate ;)

This is just the beginning from Derek's point of view.

He's staring again.

Derek doesn't know where the annoying Ravenclaw came from, but he seems to be everywhere these days. He hadn't really noticed the loud boy until he bumped into him coming back from his–ahem–meeting with Professor Argent in the dungeons last week–but these days it was like the kid was everywhere.

If Derek was in the library–the Ravenclaw just happened to be getting in trouble with Madam Morell for trying to sneak into the Restricted Section.

If he was doing patrols, he'd find the younger boy out after curfew, smiling guiltily and rambling about how he must have gotten lost trying to find his way back to the Ravenclaw dorms.

Once, during quidditch practice, he noticed the boy watching them in the stands. He wasn't there for long before Ennis chased him out for "spying."

He'll admit that maybe these are all just coincidences–maybe the kid has always been around and he just hadn't noticed until now–maybe he's just imagining things.

Still, there's one thing that is really bothering him:

the staring

It doesn't really seem malicious–but sometimes he catches the kid just watching him–staring with this sort of unreadable expression.

He glances back at the boy who has stopped his staring and is now laughing loudly with his arm wrapped around a Gryffindor boy with floppy hair and a crooked jaw.

Thank Merlin.

In front of him, a paper crane lands–shaking him out of his reverie. Snatching the note before anyone notices–he briefly skims over it, giddy as quickly shoves the note into his pocket. He glimpses up at the Professor's table and notices Kate smirking back at him. She subtly raises her goblet and he raises his own–grinning back at her before they both share a toast.

They don't notice the Ravenclaw frowning at their exchange.

So, Derek and Laura are getting ready for a trip to their uncle Peter’s when these people dressed in black come into their home and attack them and their parents.

Laura and Derek manage to escape by hot-wiring their mom’s car.

Derek: *hotwires care* Laura: Derek Samuel Hale, WHERE DID YOU LEARN THAT?! Derek: I’ll explain later. Just drive!

They get away but their parents are captured. They make it to their uncle’s house and tell him what happened. Uncle Peter reveals that their parents and him are spies, and that one of their old enemies must of found them.

He asks Derek and Laura to help rescue their parents, explaining that whoever took their parents would expect him, but they wouldn’t expect kids. Laura easily agrees and Derek reluctantly goes along with it, but he feels like something’s off.

They go to Uncle Peter’s tech guy, Deaton, who hooks them up with some high-tech gadgets, armor, and everything they’d need. As they go to leave, he warns them not to trust anyone; not even family.

Laura still has no idea how they’re going to find their parents and Derek comes up with an idea. They reach out to Derek’s computer camp friend, Danny, and ask him to trace his parents. Luckily, Derek’s dad managed to keep his phone on him while being abducted and they’re able to trace him. 

Derek and Laura thank Danny and go to find their parents. As they’re driving through the streets of Beacon Hills, Laura realises they’re being followed. Out of nowhere another car tries to run them off the road. Derek catches a glimpse of the driver and passenger: more people dressed in black. 

Laura floors it and managed to lose the men during a traffic scuffle. They return to Deaton and secure a ride in a spy sub. They go off to coordinates Danny found. It leads them to a remote island with a odd structure intertwined with the ridges and curves of the island. They make it inside and split up to look for their parents. 

While snooping around, Laura finds a hallway full of cell doors. In one, she finds a boy around Derek’s age. He tiny compared to Derek and he looks like he’s taken a beating. 

The boy notices Laura and asks her if she can get him out. She tries to and when she finally succeeds, Laura accidentally trips an alarm. She grabs the kid’s arm and runs to where she last saw Derek.

They find Derek cornered by a couple of guards. Laura begins to panic, frantically trying to figure out what to do: she needs to save her brother without drawing attention to them, then she realizes that the boy from the cell is no longer beside her. She see him sneaking up on the group and watches in awe as he single-handedly disables all the guards.

The boy turns to Derek and asks, “Are you okay?”

Derek just stares at him, stunned. Finally, he’s able to mutter, “Whoa.”

Boy: “That doesn’t really answer my question.” Derek: “I mean, yeah! I’m totally fine! I could have taken them  on.” Boy: (amused but sarcastic) “Yeah... sure.”

Laura joins them and together they try to sneak out of the complex.

Derek asks the boy if he has a name, trying to act cool (and failing miserably). They boy suddenly pushes Laura aside and pulls Derek flush against him, pushing their backs into the wall and narrowly escaping the sight of guards passing through the hall.

Once the guards are gone, the boy leans in close to Derek and whispers, “It’s Stiles, by the way.”

(Poor Derek can barely hear him though becasue wow is this boy’s surprisingly solid and Derek has never been this close to someone, especially someone this hot and all he can think is ‘Now’s not the time to get a boner from someone whispering in his ear’.)

“Cool,” Derek replies, his voice cracking mid syllable. 

As the keep walking Laura teases Derek, “Wow, little bro, that was some real smooth talking back there.”

“Shut up, Laura.”

Anyway, they ask Stiles why he was imprisoned and Stiles explains that he was taken as a bargaining chip by a man called the Lone Alpha. Laura asks him what he means and Stiles tells them that a Lone Alpha is a rouge spy; someone who’s forsaken who their organisation and their family for their own gain. 

Stiles asks them why they’re here and Derek jumps in, recounting everything that had happened that day: how their parents had been kidnapped by men in black.

“What did you mean you were taken as a bargaining chip?” Laura asks.

“My dad’s the head of the European Espionage commission,” Stiles explains. “The Lone Alpha is hoping to extort my dad for resources and fire power. What about you guys? Who are your parents and why were they important enough to be taken?”

“I don’t know,” Derek admits. “Our parents are Talia and Frederick Hale. They were jus-”

“The Talia and Rick Hale? The best spies in the Western Hemisphere? Talia Iron Fist and Rick Rounder? Oh my gosh, I cant believe this. What are they like? Are they as awesome as the rumors say? Oh my gosh. You two are super hot, so if you guys look like this they much be like ten times more attractive!”

(And that’s all I got because I can’t stop thinking of Derek and Laura squabbling for 90% of their adventure. And all Derek can think about is the fact stiles thinks he’s hot.)

Basically Derek is an undercover spy who is a master of disguise and doesn't like the concept of family but then he is forced to go undercover as a dad to get close to a target, so he adopts a kid (I'm thinking little isaac) with a mind reading ability which he doesn't know of and later finds a boy (Stiles) who desperately needs to prove he's taken and is an undercover assassin and they end up living together and being undercover as a family. Fluff, angst and feelings ensue.

- derek's kids call stiles dad/papa, which surprises chris argent bc he thought that the kids use dad&papa interchangeably to refer to derek

the fic ends with a failed coup in the castle which stiles is able to thwart, and sterek comes out of the closet. people say how dare they do this when paige is dead but sterek is like "nah it's cool, actually paige was the friend and we were the lovers"

When I realized that last night while looking at this, it really made me see hanahaki AUs in a different light lmao. Maybe there’s a reason they’ve always been one of my favorite.

See I'm loving all of these ideas because my poor heart feeds on angst as well. Like super loving it. Even the parts you're unsure of. It all sounds tasty. And like I said it can totally still have those bits of comedy. It can even start out as comedic and slowly in corporate those oh shit moments because that contrast is so tasty especially when it's pulled off right. I have faith in you!

my beta and I are def going to work hard at making it work! And since you’ve got me going a terrible mistake it’s impossible to shut me up bc I love talking about this fic here are some of the Set In Stone plot points:

Mitch and Gerard conflict. Gerard never thought Mitch was good enough for Katrina, very cruelly rejected him when Mitch mentioned wanting to ask Katrina to marry him (he ends up asking bby Allison instead and it is an adorable scene that I already have written) 

Derek and Mitch went to high school together, were rivals but in a high school student way. Once they finally come to a truce, for Stiles’ sake, eventually they start talking. Derek somewhat remembers Katrina and that she was nice, but that is an off limits topic for Mitch and he makes Derek regret bringing it up. But eventually they have a sort of alliance. It starts with no holds barred sparring in the back yard, and develops into Mitch helping him train the beta’s, and eventually they Talk About Things. Which is how the Kate topic comes up. Mitch always thought something was off about her, but he had no idea she would go as far as taking advantage of teen Derek. (An idea I explore further in a separate fic where Mitch’s parents were hunters, they got killed and the Argent’s took him in, and he and Derek became best friends. Then Kate comes to town and Bad Shit happens to both of them).

Allison does end up spying for the pack, eves dropping on her dad and Mitch about hunting things and relaying that information to Stiles who relays it to Derek. Theirs is a very, very slow burn. 

John and Melissa are tip-toeing around each other, which is definitely a new development. Mitch definitely should come around more, because clearly he has been missing out. 

But another reason I want Mitch to come in later, is because originally, Chris and Peter had started to have a Thing, and Mitch was ??? But I guess now I’m going to have to be an Actual Writer and not take shortcuts lol, so they’re also a slowburn. 

Mitch and Allison are the brotp to end all brotps. Aside from the hunting stuff, he’s the one she usually goes to for advice, since there are just some things a teen won’t talk to her dad about, and Mitch I sold enough to have some better insight than the group (and she’s just not There yet with Derek). So she asks him one night about how to date both Scott and Isaac. He’s mostly lost because uhhh she’s already dated more than he has, Katrina was it for him. But for some reason the kids think he is just a font of dating advice. Which Derek finds hilarious, because they used to come to him for like. life advice and it’s nice to see someone else suffering for a while. 

Also it’s Allison who then gives him some relationship advice of her own later in the story, when he meets another woman that started off impersonal, but now he’s starting to catch feelings, and he feels guilty because of it. Allison tells him he deserves to be happy and gives some Sage Wisdom in another lovely scene I have written. I just love writing them so much, it’s terrible, but their dynamic gives me Life and I use it in whatever fics I can. 

Mitch, Derek, and Allison/Chris are the ones really bringing the angst here, but damn if they aren’t bringing a lot of it. Mitch especially, but that’s mostly because I wrote a whole prequel about him and Katrina. 

Oh, and while Chris has some... difficulties.... really standing up to Gerard, especially in the wake of Kate and Victoria, Mitch definitely does not. He’s constantly challenging Gerard and getting into arguments with him, even when it’s probably better he keeps his mouth shut instead. It’s Mitch, he is biologically incapable of not starting shit. And as Anti-Werewolf as he is, he’s not insane enough to think they’re subhuman. He strictly follows the code, and doesn’t believe in torture, and see’s no reason for grisly deaths. Gerard is the complete opposite, so they’re fighting all the time, and there are conflicting orders to the hunter underlings, who have to decide who they’re more afraid of.

And the scene in season 2 where Gerard cuts the omega in half is actually what made me want to bring Mitch in that early, because of the “we have a code.” “not when they murder my daughter.” in my fic, he’s looking at Mitch and specifically referring to Katrina’s death. But instead of motivating Mitch to abandon the code, it just pisses him off because Gerard cheapened her death, using it for his own gain to try and guilt trip him, showing exactly how much he actually cared: not at all.

I have A Lot of feelings about this fic. And if it seems like this is pretty centrally about Mitch, that’s because it kind of is. Idek how it happened??? bc it was originally a sterek fic, but then this whole just started the chaos of my many crossover AUs that I now have, the first of which is coming April 1st! I really need to flesh out the other characters some, and decide on a Central Plotline to have the rest branch off of but that is complicated.

Last time, it was Stiles who harboured Derek’s fugitive ass. He’s really not expecting it to be the case here, no matter how close to Quantico he is. He also has other issues to worry about, and that’s when he spots a flyer that promises information on the problem he’s had ever since the time he saved his own life by shifting into a wolf.Derek really should rethink his position on coincidences.

Lady Luck was for once on his side…because this was the file on Derek Hale and his supposed mass murdering ways. Checking once again if he was alone and not being watched, he quickly grabbed each piece of paper, every piece of photography, and made his way to the copier. It was a quick process. In and out in a matter of minutes. When he was done, he shoved the copies into his bag and made sure it appeared as if he wasn’t even there.

Upon leaving, he bumped into a familiar face. Left him forcing an aggravated sigh down his throat, and a strained smile across his lips.
