elder landscape

bird overlooking a man hunched over on the beach

sails billowing

almost transparent boat in the very distance

seeming stippling effect with the leaves

rocks jutting from the water look like adobe houses

agriculture seems of topic in this one

glaciers or mountains in the back?

nature vacuum

feels very eye-of-the-hurricane

green sky/paint swaths remind me of the way tornado clouds look

but then, a sunset

yellow chickadee dive-bombing at the top

*this is not a professional interpretation of art. it is clumsy. it is purely meant for my lecture in a class called ekphrasis.

Tony found Stephen with his head laid on top of his desk, books and notes strewn about the entire room.

It was two past midnight. Tony had taken the last train of the day from Boston to New York, after a dozen calls that had gone unanswered by his boyfriend from Columbia. He’d been worried, so he’d come. But the scene he found Stephen in only puzzled him further.

“Hey,” he murmured, placing a hand on Stephen’s shoulder where he was still slumped on the desk. Tony gently ran his fingers up the tension in those muscles, feeling Stephen slowly respond. Finally, Stephen moved, leaning his head against Tony’s torso rather than the desk, burying his face in Tony’s shirt. “What’s the matter?” Tony gently whispered, burying his other hand in dark hair.

Stephen didn’t respond immediately, his long, deep breaths against Tony’s shirt the only sound audible in the room.

“I’ll lose this scholarship if I don’t score the highest again.”

Tony’s gaze went around the room again, taking note of all the books that were lying around. He looked down at the desk. The immediate pages looked a little crumpled, as if the same few pages had been turned over and over again.

He looked down at Stephen again, breathing deeply against him, and stroked his hair. “I could support your tuition fee, y’know.”

And he very much would; it was something he’d been wanting to offer for a while now, but never had. Because he’d known that Stephen wouldn’t accept. But this..

This was hurting Stephen, and it needed to be fixed.

Stephen drew back at that, staring up at Tony with exhausted eyes that had dark circles under them. Tony expected a rejection, a rebuff, maybe just a deflection, something. Instead, Stephen turned away.

“No.. I— you wouldn’t understand.”

No, Tony wouldn’t, if he was not even told what was bothering Stephen. “Then help me understand,” he said.

Stephen exhaled a frustrated breath and got up from the desk, only to go and sit at the edge of his bed. There, he buried his face in his hands.

Something clicked then; the state of the room, the way Stephen looked completely worn out...

Tony approached the bed, sitting down next to Stephen. He carefully took one of Stephen’s hands, tugging it off his face. Stephen allowed, if a little reluctantly, and his other hand fell away from his face of its own accord.

Tony took the hand in his palms, massaging the sleek, long fingers. Stephen had the most stable hands he’d ever seen. Perfect for a surgeon.

He knew, with a certainty, that Stephen would one day be an excellent doctor. Not just because of his hands.

“You know you don’t always have to be the best, right?” Tony spoke, the words whispered like a secret.

He felt Stephen go stiff.

That was the crux of it, wasn’t it? Stephen’s need to always be the best, always be perfect, at the cost of his own sanity and health.

Tony turned more towards Stephen, cradling his face with a hand, coaxing his partner to look at him.

“You’re allowed to have downtime, Stephen. You don’t have to run yourself ragged. Just this once, let yourself rest a little. Please.”

The single word had the effect of a magic spell on Stephen. Instantly, all fight left him; his shoulders sagged, and his eyes grew teary. “I’m going to perform terribly.”

“And that’s okay,” Tony soothed.

Stephen buried his face in Tony’s neck as suppressed tears spilled out. Tony wrapped his hands around his partner, holding him close.

The Stephens-Kline kiddoes had their yearbook photos done too. Its Riv and Blakes last year with school photos so Blake photobombed Rivs to make it extra cute for the yearbook :3 babies going for best couple or something i swear to god.

Introduction to Dr Stephen Bennett: a character from a Corinthian spinoff I’m workshopping :)

part of developing my skills as a comic artist requires me to have concepts of my own to be able to play around with. I decided to take my passion for the sandman universe and lay out my vision for what a xavier phoenix corinthian spin-off would look like. psychology professor and lifelong lover boy dr. stephen bennett seems to be the first man corinthian allows himself to get close to.

emotions are a bit harder to avoid after being hastily stitched back together in the midst of a war. accepting them is a different story.
