I was bored, so here are some NPMD headcanons

Steph -AFAB, she/they -biromantic, bisexual, and polyamorous -She can pull anyone and everyone -she dyes her hair a lot -They do really good makeup and put makeup on the rest of the nerdy prudes -She kinda smells like nutmeg? -She plays a lot of video games -Lowkey a twitter comedian -Allergic to cats and pollen -Likes sweet foods more than salty -Their favourite movie is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Pete -AMAB, he/they + neos -biromantic and bisexual -the most responsible out of the group -not when it comes to Steph though, he would do anything for her -he would jump off a bridge if they did -Steph sometimes puts makeup on them and no one wants to admit it but they would make a really pretty girl -He reads a lot of classic novels and writes like dissertations on that shit for fun -most likely out of the nerdy prudes to join the smoke club -Spends like 75% of his time day dreaming but also somehow takes impeccable notes in school -They like the spring but get major allergies -falls in love super easily -enjoys gardening -Left handed and has pretty handwriting -favourite colour is green

Ruth -she/they/he + neos -She could be trans or cis i honestly don't know -biromantic and bisexual they will take anyone who will have them -Charlotte’s younger half-sister -Theatre kid till the day she dies (literally) -Knows a lot about mushrooms -can read tarot cards -Listens to old weird music like Kate Bush, showtunes, or like......fucking Hazbin Hotel music -Bo Burnham liker -Changes her name a lot but never sticks with it -Knows a lot of obscure plays -also falls in love super easily

Richie -AFAB he/him -bisexual and demibiromantic -He’s really not all that concerned with romance -He kind of has a thing for Steph though (everyone does) -tries to get his friends into anime but none of them really understand it -he’s an anime guy, ruth's a theatre guy. they may be besties but they just don't quite understand each other -Reada a ton of comic books -plays Pokémon -beats everyone at Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart EXCEPT Steph -one time he beat Paul (his uncle) at Mario Kart and Paul had a midlife crisis -he makes kandi and gives them to all his friends -Gets gender envy from anime characters

Grace -AFAB, she/her -lesbian -Okay she's the other most likely nerdy prude to join the smoke club -i have this idea in my head of her and Pete becoming stoners together -her and Pete are besties kind of -Really just a bundle of anxiety -knows a lot about botany -has like six versions of the same exact outfit -rides her bike everywhere -Has the shakiest hands of all time -Gets really nervous around Steph -stress baker

Max -AMAB, he/him -biromantic and bisexual because I said so. bi rights. -Unironically down kind of bad for Grace. She sort of hates him and is sort of just scared of him -possibly the worst cook known to man -okay so in my head he tries to impress Grace all the time but it never works -also has a lowkey massive crush on Kyle.....why else would he be so adamant that he can't date Brenda -Chronically offline. He won't STOP touching grass. He doesn't own a phone -has no concept of personal boundaries -Kind of a theatre kid. Secretly.

Quite literally the most beautiful and best dish I've ever made

who will pray for you when your body's gone?

aka a post that was going to be two and then i thought more and went FUCK

because, okay, when i first heard this line, i thought it was grace's internal proof of her superior christianity. while what she values primarily is her chastity (vibrating with anger at evangelical purity culture btw), she absolutely has a superiority complex around her faith. she doesn't swear, she's a christian unlike shapiro, a catholic (this also really pisses me off when i come across it irl, and believe me i have). so, now that either she wasn't following God anymore (who was left to pray for him), or she was the Real Christian in hatchetfield who kills jason (who would pray for him if she wouldn't), he was alone.

and then i realised - grace doesn't pray that much onstage. this makes logical sense, it'd only really work in a monologue or soliloquy (think charlotte in tgwdlm before you tied up my heart). because, you know, you're talking to someone who not only doesn't talk back but also isn't onstage. in a physical form. you know what i mean.

the two instances grace has of talking to God in any way (which is praying, feel free to use the terms interchangeably), or one and a half, is when the chasitys say amen after grace (food prayer, not the character) (i'm counting this as the half because normally one person says grace, we don't know if it was mark or karen instead, but i mean you're praying *with* someone even if you don't say anything. i'm also counting as half because we don't see the prayer, just the end, because it's a scene transition). the other is "and now he's leaving me out to dry! DO SOMETHING YOU SON OF A BITCH!" now, as a christian and therefore the authority on all christian matters (this is a joke please take it as one), it's not considered the best thing to call God a son of a b-word, and i personally haven't done so. however, this can be thought of - and stick with me here - as a slightly excessive form of a lament. i personally interpret lament to be less "God, you bitch" and more "hey, God, what the fuck" (i have said that one). laments are found in the Bible, (there's a book called lamentations, and iirc there are some in psalms). however, she regrets this prayer because, look, i'm not going to act as all-knowing, but lament is complex. basically, grace could internally see this as her rebelling against religion in the strict bounds that were set out for her, or maybe trying to command God? i'd personally say accidentally killing your classmate and excusing it by saying it was God's plan is a worse representation of God than saying "do something", but i'm bisexual and will be dead at some point, so who am i to judge?

after having this realisation, i realised that grace doesn't actually talk to the lib either. the closest she gets is saying their names in the summoning, but steph is the only one who actually talks to them. grace looks like she's in physical pain (which i have my reasons behind thinking, but they're more or less irrelevant). even when she's devouring the souls of the pervs, she never actually says "thanks to my boys, the lib". she doesn't say grace while metaphysical eating, for shame. you should be thankful for your food, chasity

and like. it's interesting, right? i don't have any major conclusions on this for the moment, but i'm curious if anyone here as any thoughts on this?

eyeshadow

Daniel catches himself looking at Sadie in their AP English class, toward the middle of October, while they’re working on a group project about Hamlet.

This isn’t the first time he’s caught himself looking at Sadie like she’s more than just herself, more than just his friend. He knows he did a few times last year. Sophomore year, when things seemed easy. Back then, Lucy wasn’t pregnant, Will wasn’t the expectant father, and Daniel hadn’t recently ended a fling with Sam’s girlfriend. Back then, it seemed like the whole world made sense. But it doesn’t anymore.

So, Daniel might as well look at Sadie the way he knows she looks at him.

And isn’t it terrible of him? To know the way Sadie feels about him and not do anything about it? It’s not that he doesn’t feel that way about her. He does, or at least part of the way. Sadie’s feelings have always been bigger than anyone else’s (and about anything, not just love, not just him). He knows he could date Sadie. He plans for her to be in his life forever, anyway. Why not just make it romantic?

Daniel doesn’t do romantic. Not out loud. Sure, he hooks up with girls all the time, but he’s not built to be romantic. He could have gone that way with Steph, but then, there was the matter of Sam. Even his romantic inclinations are unavailable.

Sadie is not unavailable. She is there. She is ready. And Daniel isn’t.

He looks at her as she reads, somehow not feeling his attention. She’s usually perceptive about stuff like this. It’s sweet when she’s engrossed. Right now, she’s trying to understand every hidden nuance in Hamlet’s frailty, thy name is woman soliloquy. Normally, Lucy would do it, but she’s busy trying not to throw up all over the desk clump.

“Funny, right?” she asks, though Daniel only hears her through an echoey distance. “That this is what became of our first-grade desk clump? A pregnant teenager and her fiancé.”

Daniel nods. He can’t believe this is what became of those first graders, either. But not because Lucy is pregnant. Not because she and Will are getting married in a month. Because he’s looking at Sadie in a way he’s not ready to. Sadie is wonderful. She is beautiful and smart and everything you’re supposed to pray for.

It’s just that Daniel doesn’t deserve her.

Maybe he never will.

He looks at her a little longer before she finally looks up from her copy of Hamlet. When she smiles, it’s like the world opens up to another realm, just for the two of them. Daniel gulps hard to make the feelings go away. They don’t.

“What’s going on?” Sadie asks behind a sweet laugh.

Daniel shrugs.

“Nothing,” he says. “Are you wearing eyeshadow?”

Sadie blinks her eyes. Sure enough, she’s wearing purple eyeshadow. A nice compliment to her big brown eyes. She looks beautiful. She always looks beautiful.

“Junior year means doing something new for yourself, I think,” she says. “And Lucy already took ‘getting pregnant,’ so I figured I’d sign up for ‘trying eyeshadow’ before I got stuck with anything more serious.”

Daniel laughs. Sadie’s funny, too. He can’t forget about how she’s funny. She makes him laugh even when he doesn’t think he remembers how.

Should he remember how?

“It’s nice,” Daniel says. “The eyeshadow.”

Sadie smiles with a touch too much hope.

“Thanks,” she says. “You wanna see the notes I took?”

Daniel leans across the desk clump a little closer.

“Sure.”

Sweet Mother Sappho

A longer poem about learning through history, self-discovery, etc. It’s a rough draft-- I’m not 100% satisfied with the storyline-- but, eh, here ya go.

Oh, Mother Sappho, though I’m not sure who you are,

I just found you in the trunk of my dad’s old beat-up car,

In a pile full of other stuff he used to want but doesn’t,

So I figured now would be the time to give myself a present.

I must admit that I’m not well-versed with verses,

Haven’t seen stanzas since Kwanzaa, and my rhymes could use work-- but!

Your face is on the cover and you look like you’re nice, so

I think I’ll come and read you-- only once or twice, I swear!--

And only when I’m curious about Aphrodite’s weaving,

Or carpenters and roofbeams or Gods who like deceiving!

I’d hate to be a bother with all of my incessant reading,

There’s just something ‘bout your passages I can’t help but find intriguing--

But maybe it’s just that my curiosity took

When I noticed finely scrawled within the tiny nook

Between the front cover and the page--

Faded some with age--

In graphite on the page, it reads, “Steph…

I hope you like the book.”

… My name’s Chris, by the way.

Oh, Mother Sappho, I know it’s only been one day,

But after our first meeting I can’t tear myself away!

And on top of that I realized that I’ve been a little flippant.

Dad always says that when I talk, my brain gets sorta distant.

My name is Chris, as I surely said before,

I’m 15 years old, born in the year Two Thousand and Four,

Which to you must seem like, I dunno, a billion years away--

If only you could see all of the stuff we have today!

My dad’s a docent-- uh, which means he works in a museum,

And I remind him he’s a nerd just about every time I see ‘im.

He takes folks ‘round to see the history, the time when you lived--

And money can be tight, so sometimes he works the graveyard shift.

I guess they save some headache by keeping the same guy

To glide across the floors by day and scrub ‘em by night.

But hey! I’m not complaining, and neither is he,

‘Cuz Empty Halls + Father/Son = Happy Memories.

I spent a lot of nights playing next to history,

Though how I (almost) never broke stuff still remains a mystery.

I played tag with the Huns, roshambo with Tommie Smith,

(A game I always won since he would always raise his fist).

My father told me tales from ancient times-- (Never quite PG)--

Then quizzed me on Mythology ‘til my mind was at its apogee!--

I’d hunt with Davy Crockett and paint with Vince van Gogh--

Might explain why a dead poet makes the second-best friend that I know. Ha!

But my favorite-- yes, the best-and-kindest figures of all

Were the warriors whispered about in the Women’s History Hall.

This was before they spread the female figures throughout the exhibits,

But in that hallway you could sense there was rebellious spirit.

Wollstonecraft and Curie, Shelley, Earhart and d’Arc,

I danced with Josie Baker, had some chats with Rosa Parks--

I fought entire wars with them as a tactician of sorts,

Then settled it with kindness, like you read about in books--

And it’s true that my childhood would have been less sleep-deprived

If I stayed at home while daddy made the money to survive,

But I’m a night owl through and through, a real child of Nyx-- (Still got it!)--

Which is why I’m sitting here with you at, like… 3:06.

… A.M. Yikes-- Mother Sappho! I’ve got to get to bed,

But thank you oh-so-kindly for the poetry I’ve read.

I hope that you don’t mind if this becomes a regular thing,

Like when I used to read soliloquies to Dr. Martin Luther King (‘s statue)--

God, with all that museum time, it’s weird I never met you.

But without further ado,

I’ll say good night to you.

… But Mother Sappho-- one thing keeps me awake,

A little shred of curiosity that I have yet to slake.

It pulls me in like the aroma from the master dish of a chef,

Oh, Mother Sappho…

… Who’s Steph?

Oh, Mother Sappho! Julie’s coming by tonight,

And whenever she comes over she just has to steal the spotlight!

Not that I mind-- I’m cool with being quiet at the table

While my childhood friend fills my open head with fables.

Our Hellish Elementary formed our crucible as friends,

And though it sucked, we only came out stronger in the end.

A nerdy girl, a “cissy” guy, playing sci-fi with dolls--

Didn’t really resonate within those tiny halls.

And of course I’d be remiss to not show her my new find--

I always try to have a new conversation topic each time

That she comes over-- Which she’s done quite regularly

Since she became my friend when no one else

Would hang out with me.

… But anyway-- She says she loves you, which is not a surprise,

It’s always been dead-dramatic ladies for whom she’s had eyes--

Not saying you’re dramatic, Sappho, I’m just trying to say,

That I’ve recently been wondering if you might’ve been gay?

I’m just saying! that’s the conclusion that I came to next

When the subtextual did floweth over into the text.

(O it makes my panicked heart go fluttering in my chest,

for the moment I catch sight of you there is no speech left

in me--) You see? You can’t blame me for thinking

That it was rainbow-colored nectar you and your friends were drinking.

 And while Julie’s father has a chat with my dad,

I tell my lifelong friend about the conversations we’ve had--

And I can’t help but hear our fathers talking in the afternoon air,

Two strong voices rising through wood and laughing as a pair…

Though what they talk about’s a mystery-- dad says it’s “Nothing much--”

It’s rare for friends to have their dads like each other this much,

Aaaand I just rhymed “much” with “much”-- I told you I’m rusty!

But I think I’m getting better, you’ll-- just have to… Trust me?

Ugh.

Short for Stephanie, I’m sure, but why is it in my father’s hands?

And why would he discard in the back of our sedan?

“Steph” is short for Stephanie-- but is also short for “Stephen.”

 I think my dad and I might need to have a talk--

In the morning. It’s 2:04, and I’m still sort of in shock.

Maybe once I tell ‘im, I can help him get a date.

Ha! Maybe…

so my dad picked up orphan black from the dvd store (yes we have one of those) on a whim a few weeks ago

and i was thrilled and telling him he’d love it but also kind of worried?? because dad loves sci-fi and thrillers, but also theres all the lgbt stuff and sex in orphan black (my dad is very catholic and normally fast forwards sex scenes lmao) so i was hoping desperately that he’d like it

never could i have imagined that he would FALL IN LOVE with the show - i didnt hear a peep from him about cosima and delphine, he and mum didnt like felix at first but grew to really like him -

and he’s in love to the point where he’s now getting new tv shows, watching them a bit, sighing, and saying “its okayyy, but its not as good as orphan black....”, and he’s already said to me a few times “i cant wait until enough time has passed to watch orphan black AGAIN, this time knowing whatll happen from the start!!!”

someone at his work has started watching it and went “i really like it so far, im only half way through the first episode-“ and dads like “HO HO HO JUST YOU WAIT”

its been a while since a show has given my dad this level of glee and it is so so so so delightful that it is this one

so i was thinking about this and its my new baby but its really long so im putting part of it under a read more

the school is called justice academy and the school colors are blue, white and gold

theres a martial arts class at their school that bruce teaches bc he’s lonely and we all know he doesn’t have a real job

clark is the lunch lady who reminds kids to eat their vegetables

everything made in the caf is grown in the school garden that he has and he shames kids into not picking the unhealthy foods

bruce is smashing the lunch lady aka clark n he thinks no one knows but really the whole school gossips about how rich dude/part time gym teacher bruce wayne is banging sweet lunch lady clark

also clark and lois have an open marriage so they don’t have to hide their relationship but bruce is like........yeah but i don’t want ppl to know i’m dating someone who says y'all'd've'st

Kon HATES it bc he and tim are also dating

diana is the wrestling coach and everyone marvels at how good she is except donna and cassie (bc thats donnas mom and cassie’s aunt and she  loves to embarrass them) n she’s known for having a rivalry with her the arkham academy coach, barbara minerva, aka her ex girlfriend

also diana is an ancient/world history teacher teaching history as it happened

kory was an exchange student during her freshman year and eventually decides to stay. she’s cheer captain but also known for arguing for equality and stages like school walkouts and things and no one ever challenges her bc she’s tall and buff and her gf is the captain of the wrestling team

wally runs track and field

wally is iris's nephew and barry and iris met at a track meet when iris came to pick him up and he was like hey wally what's ur aunt's number? and wally was like ‘sorry coach barry my aunt isn’t looking rn’ bc he thought it’d be weird if his coach dated his aunt but barry shoots his shot anyways and now barry and iris are engaged

also wally is a senior n bart is a freshman so when barry makes bart co-captain wally is like what the fuck is the point of you being engaged to my aunt if i dont get nepotism?????? n barry's like wally he's ur cousin and wally's like not if he steals my scholarships and they fight a lot but they l*ve each other 

roy is president of the archery club with his sorta sister artemis crock and jason is a lit nerd who roy flirts with but jason just thinks he wants homework so he ignores him

roy struggles with being a good dad while also fighting his addiction and work part time to try and save up for college after ollie kicked him out all on top of being a senior in high school

artemis is good friends w mia and conner bc first they were in the archery club together and then she joins the family after jade has lian and she’s like i’m sorry jade is vicious and tries to help out with lian as much as possible and mia and conner respect that

artemis is a really good aunt, she loves lian so much and spends all of her pocket money on taking her niece places. she ditches school to get slurpees w her girlfriends zatanna and m’gann. m’gann helps her study for her classes and with her homework. both make sure she stays in school cause artemis almost flunks out at one point bc of family stuff. also artemis is in lit club bc Z is in it and she supports her

jason lives in an apartment and he makes bruce pay for it as reparations for being a bad dad. but he also works bc he’ll be damned if he has to live off of bruce’s money permanently and eventually starts paying for his own bills and stuff

dick is captain of the gymnastics team and he’s really good. he’s the best in the region and has only ever lost a meet once (which was nationals, he came 2nd place)

tiger, dick, and helena went to summer camp together. tiger doesn’t go to their school, he goes to a gotham boarding school and dick sneaks into his room at night to hang out/make out and tiger comes to dick’s meets and helena tags along

also wally has a big crush on dick and he has since they were kids and dick liked him too. but wally thought dick wasn’t interested so he never went for it and then dick being dick just moved on and now wally just pines after him and it’s sad :/

damian is a snot nose 9 year old kid who hangs around the gymnastic team’s practices to hang out with his big bro and he sneers at the team and says he could do it better (which he can)

the summer before jason’s sophomore year he disappears after an incident and no one knows what happened to him but afterwards bruce sends him to boarding school to correct his behavior (which is where he meets amazon artemis and bizarro) until jason says fuck this and comes back junior year and everyone spread rumors that he like died while he was gone bc no one ever saw him so when he returned everyone was like :O and dick is really excited he’s back but jason is pissed at him bc he didn’t like support jason in fighting w bruce to let him stay

jason has bruce’s number blocked for the drama of it and bruce refuses to think his son blocked him so he's like "oh his phone must be off he's so busy love that guy (:" and no one has the heart to tell him. the rare times he does answer the phone when bruce calls, he recites a monologue and hangs up. he’s also president of drama club and also of literature club

jason recites historic and iconic monologues and soliloquies (bc he has them memorized for certain situations) except he just sprinkles curse words in

jason’s english teacher is about to fucking quit their job bc jason always tries to teach the class

cass is the best student in bruce’s class and also his daughter and she’s fairly quiet and hangs out mostly with her brothers. people like don’t really know who she is other than like hey that’s the kick ass dancer on helena’s dance team or oh! that’s the girl who kicked my ass sparring in Mr. Wayne’s class. she meets steph in one of bruce’s classes and she’s like wild and outgoing and funny and cass has a really big crush on her but she doesn’t think steph feels the same way (she does though) also steph can drive and she’s always taking cass on these really fun adventures but bruce doesn’t approve of steph so cass like sneaks out to go hang out with steph but bruce never knows bc he thinks she’s the perfect daughter and like steph brings cass out of her shell. she’s also on the gymnastics team with dick and is the second highest placing athlete on the team.

my boy duke thomas and his parents were good friends of bruce right so when during the summer before his freshman year his parents die in a freak car accident bruce takes him in. he’s a sophomore now and he’s still adjusting to life with bruce and he thinks his new siblings are kinda weird but cool. he’s also really focused on making sure his grades are immaculate so that he can get into his dream school and make his parents proud. he is in the school band and he’s really great and tim is also in band bc bruce made him but he’s not as good as duke 

jason met duke at a family dinner he was forced to go to and thinks he’s cool unlike his other loser brother and makes him join literature club 

tim drake is a freshmen and gets shoved into lockers. his only friends are kon, bart, and cassie. he joined the coding club bc he thinks babs is extra cool and wants to be like her

jason is the one shoving him in the locker and tim’s like what the fuck you’re the nerd here and jason’s like funny isn’t it and then closes the locker

bart hangs out with tim and kon and cassie. except cassie is cool from being on the wrestling team and being donna’s cousin so she’s always really busy but she tries to make time for them. wally shoves him into lockers sometimes and kon has to get them both out.

kon is in his rebellious teen phase where he's like fuck u dad i don’t wanna be a farmer but its justified bc kon is techinically an illegitimate child from a previous relationship and clark is kind of a dick to him bc he treats Jon better than Kon

helena and dinah make out under the school bleachers before helena has dance practice and when helena has to go dinah smacks her ass and says knock em dead babe

helena originally took mr. wayne's martial arts class because she needed PE credit but now she kinda likes it. the whole time she’s there she objects to bruce's passive approach to fighting 

bruce: fight to disarm or incapacitate ur partner helena: thats dumb, fight to kill ur partner 

bruce wayne voice: helena this is a PE class please stop trying to murder your partners

kate kane subs for bruce sometimes but she supports helena's kill ur partner attitude so they don’t hire her very often

helena is captain of the dance team and they perform at all school rallies and football games and shes really hard on her team mates but only bc she wants them to be their best and babs & dinah make her music mixes for performances bc they love her

babs is president of the coding club and even though she’s a nerd everyone respects her. her and dick went on a date once and then when he kissed her good night she realized she was a lesbian. they’re still buddies though. she dated dinah for awhile but they decided they were better as friends. helena and babs became friends in the martial arts class and babs introduced helena and dinah and the three have been bffs ever since.
