I just thought everyone would like this. The “default” human in my biochem class was a female body. It’s something so small but this Kinda thing matters. It’s so common that a male body is shown as the default when studying biology and anatomy, so it’s refreshing to recognize the inherent bias.

I love being a biology major because all of my professors are fucking nerds I just had a doctor who is teaching me about conservation biology sign off her email with "may the force be with you"
last semester I had a professor that signed all his emails "sessuvium" (which is a species of plant that "goes with the flow" and can grow under intense conditions near oceans in high sodium soil) he also used pokemon in all his powerpoints and talked about his bisexual wizard dnd character while we were out in the field

Being a stem major when your soul yearns for something else is so hard, like being a stem major is hard on its own let alone hating it but yet having to work hard to ace your grades and be among the top students. It feels like a daily battle, not knowing what to do and never deciding whether to keep going or to simply quit, I often ask myself will this hard work will be rewarded or am I just wasting my life on something I will never come to like no matter how much i succeed in it? Will I regret quitting or will I regretting carrying on? And between this and that I keep on fighting and I pray that i won't lose myself in the journey I didn't really sign up to take

while i'm on my soap box let me say as token stem major that the humanities are fucking important. end of.
and i could tell you the reasons for that (critical thinking, media literacy, cultural learning) but to be completely honest i don't think i should have to. i don't think something is uniquely important because 'taking xyz course in linguistics will help you with latin names in premed' because there is value in human experience even if it's not in the service of heart surgery or aerospace engineering.
let me grab you by the shoulders and tell you that humans are important. their experiences are important. the way they express those experiences are important. therefore there will always be value in art, literature, history, film - you name it. humanity is a beautiful thing. that is enough.

I've arrived at CERN!
While it is exciting, I'm also finding it really difficult. This is all very unfamiliar. I'm not used to sitting in a shared office space all day with people who are essentially strangers. I'm getting socially exhausted often, and it's been difficult to recover and keep it. Today, it felt like nothing at all went right, so I felt awful when I got off work.
BUT I've done some self-care, and I'm better. I did accomplish a lot today, and this is a really difficult experience. So, I'm trying to be kind to myself, and remember all the positive things that happened today instead of the negatives.
Pictured is my ATLAS water bottle, and the view from my hostel!

study diary —
It’s crunch time.
I have finals in Calc 3 and Physics this week and I do not feel prepared (but to be fair, I never do).
Today I’ve just been working through Calc 3 review problems - nothing wild or special. I decided to put this little shelf next to my desk last night because I’ve been running out of space.
I don’t think I’ll keep it there permanently, but it’s been very nice to have somewhere close by to put stuff I’m not actively looking at!
This post is sponsored by Goose, who I snapped a pic of mid-yawn and mid-stretch earlier - I am very fortunate.

This trans dyke bitch is now employed(mostly, I still have the do the background check)!!!!
But yeah!!!! It’s as a payed advising intern at my university, under the natural sciences department.
I beat out like a hundred applicants!
I found out from my interviewer/now boss while ordering coffee. Because I missed yesterday’s email.
I shall evolve to new levels of hot trans dyke who is kinda a girl failure but also oddly capable.

college is kinda crazy because I’m paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to subject myself to constant mental torment all because they won’t just suck it up and let doctors practice without degrees
