transing children is child abuse. full stop. children do not have the capacity to understand truly permanent decisions. they literally cannot. you think a 14 year old is really going to understand what removing her perfectly healthy breast tissue is going to do to her body when she’s an adult? especially since doctors and surgeons don’t really know what happens either??

yeah, the brain is complicated, but just giving children unfettered access to these hormones and surgeries for transition are actually going to hurt them WAY more than making the process to get these procedures done more rigid and challenging. in fact, giving unfettered access to ANYONE to these procedures is a fucking bad idea. wanting to reduce access to these experimental procedures, and they absolutely are experimental, isn’t ‘taking away people’s rights’, you moron; it’s reducing the chances of people regretting their permanent and life-altering choices when they were younger and vulnerable and weren’t warned of any consequences, just shoved on through because ‘gotta make sure trans youth is around to grow into trans adults and i gotta line my pockets with money!’. like, please stop being melodramatic. “oh no, they want to reduce extremely vulnerable and mentally unwell kids getting these experimental procedures! trans people are losing their rights!” shut the fuck up, no one is losing their rights in this. words have actual meanings.

you should also mention that multiple studies show that 90% of kids that are uncomfortable with their bodies at the start of puberty literally grow out of their discomfort when puberty ends. and most of the time, those kids are female and are homosexual/autistic.

as we see skyrocketing amounts of legislation targeting trans youth in particular I’m begging people to stop parroting “your brain matures at 25”. this article by the director of harvard’s neuroscience lab is a good read. like I’m no neuroscientist myself but Brain Complicated. at best “your brain matures at 25” is an incomplete and inadequate summary of a single idea in a relatively new field wherein broad generalizations are almost impossible. *some* aspects of brain development *tend* to *plateau* *somewhere* in your 20s, *we think*; but “brain maturity” is poorly defined, and the data is still highly incomplete. plenty of aspects of the brain demonstrably continue developing well past 30, or for your entire life; on the other hand, plenty of studies have simply failed to include participants over 30, or 25, or even younger. attempting to define maturity, let alone make RULES about it, based on particular neuroscientific metrics, is extremely dicey

and this popsci notion is now actively being used to justify taking away people’s rights so pls stop perpetuating it for the sake of your age gap ship wars or whatever

I think young lgbtq+ people NEED to know there are old queer people out there ALIVE AND HAPPY and hearing their stories and journey is always such a sweet experience in the community for me. Most people ARENT out to get you, and I try and give people the benefit of the doubt (unless they're a criminal obviously) and I think showing some kindness to your queer elders is SO important.

the thing that’s obnoxious about a lot of age gap discoruse is that it feels less about curbing out potential abuse and more the fear of getting old/being around older people, particularly when stops even being about actual relationships and just older people being AROUND younger people.

 like people saying it’s “creepy” for older gay men to go clubs that also contain younger gay men or people saying it’s “suspicious” for older people to go to all-ages concerts. which i don’t know, just isn’t a healthy way to live considering that if you actually go outside you’re going to find your self around people who are not in you’re immediate age range and your going to have to deal with that.
