Starfall Guest
✷ Azriel x OC
✷ Summary: Something unusual drops from the sky on Starfall. A messenger with a threat and a promise.
I wrote this for @starfallweek for the prompt 'Character A is a fallen star. Character B finds them.'
I'm not sure if I like it or not, but hopefully you do lol I know a tiny bit about Crescent City but I've never read it so none of this is supposed to be related to that/canon compliant:)
Calytrix is pronounced cal-uh-trix (meaning: star-flower)

This year would be the first Starfall celebration at the River House. The view at the House of Wind was still objectively better, but it would be easier to wrangle Nyx here with all of the childproof wards built in. It would be a house warming of sorts, Rhys said.
They had spared no expense, setting up the back lawn with tables, chairs, blankets, trays of foods and star-themed decorations, bottles and bottles of champagne. All of it was beautiful. All of it was perfect. Rhys and Feyre leaned into each other, holding little Nyx between them as they gazed up at the night sky and waited for the stars to appear.
Still, Azriel could not help the ache in his chest. The chasm of loneliness, opened wide by the sight of all the couples curled up together. He sat alone, ignoring the dark clouds gathering in his mind. He’d let it catch up to him later when he was by himself. He'd let it consume him for a while and then pull himself together before morning.
The crowd around him let out a collective gasp as the first star fell, hurtling towards the earth and falling into the sea with a strange sizzling sound. It was different to see it up close and not from the view of the balconies. Closer, you could see a ring of stardust coat the surface of the water where the thing had landed. The churning of the waves spread the shimmering color further over the water, illuminated by the moon. The whole sea was gilded. Luxurious.
Azriel settled into himself, glass of champagne in hand, and watched the streaks of metallic light paint the sky. An odd sensation joined the longing in his chest, something akin to anticipation.
Like the hiss of a matchstick before the flame sparks to life. The glow of his siphons before a blast of power.
His shadows began to dart back and forth, as if they felt it too. He looked around for anything amiss, but everything was as usual. Party goers laughing and whispering and gasping, dodging the bits of star that fell on the lawn.
Azriel turned his gaze to the sky, squinting as he searched for something out of the ordinary. There was something unordinary there. One star, bigger and brighter than the rest, falling far slower than any star ever had. He watched as it dropped, blinking and flailing, surrounded by an aura of changing celestial color. He looked over his shoulder at Rhys and saw the High Lord watching the same object with pursed lips, clutching an awe-filled Nyx in his arms. This was something new.
When the odd light was in range, his shadows darted out to meet it. Azriel set his glass on a tray in the grass, preparing to stand.
A woman. A star. The shadows whispered in his ear. He wasn’t entirely sure what that meant. But the whole lot of them rushed away again as if they hoped to catch her. He wondered if a person could survive that kind of fall. Then he broke into a run, weaving through blankets and bodies toward the sea.
“Azriel!” Rhys’s voice called to him, but he didn’t stop.
The grass gave way to sand then rock, the waves lapping gently on the shore and leaving glowing stardust behind. As he neared the edge of the water, he could see how limp the being was, falling with no resistance. They were too far over the water for him to reach, but he pulled off his boots anyways and tugged off his shirt in case he needed to go in. His shadows swirled underneath the plummeting body, but she fell through them like they were nothing. Her body hit the water with a sickening splash, a layer of glimmering color left behind just like the other stars.
Azriel paced over the rocky shore, waiting for a head to appear above the water, the echo of that splash replaying over and over as his heart beat against his ribs.
Then he heard the familiar snap of winnowing, and that shimmering being was kneeling on the beach a few feet away, hands braced before her as she choked and heaved. She looked like a piece of the night sky itself.
Her skin was deep blue, covered in swirls of gold and silver. Elaborately woven braids of deep violet draped over her shoulders, dripping ocean water over her naked form.
“Are you alright?” Azriel crouched beside her, pebbles digging into his bare feet. Closer, he realized that the outline of her body was transient, moving in a slow pattern like smoke floating through the air. She was not covered in stardust, but made of it. The ends of her braids flowed into nothingness, dissipating into the night as particles of violet.
She looked up as he spoke, bright eyes meeting his. They could have housed an entire galaxy in their depth. Indigo, purple, gold, and silver swirled like pools of water, flecked with stars. The shadowsinger found himself a little awestruck. His shadows enveloped her, looking for any more information to give their master, but they would only tell him the same thing as before. A woman, a star.
“I need to speak to the High Lord of the Night Court,” She spoke, her voice deep and raspy. It sent a pleasant shiver down his spine.
“Why?” His brow furrowed. She had nothing on her, no weapons, no magical items, not even clothes. But if she could winnow, she had other powers.
“Is this the Night Court?” She asked instead of answering, pushing off the ground and attempting to stand. Her legs were wobbly and she stumbled forward onto her knees once more. Azriel grabbed his shirt from the grass and held it out to her. She tried again and managed to stand this time, though her limbs trembled.
“What is that?” She asked him, staring at the cloth in his hand.
“You’re…naked?” Azriel swallowed, keeping his eyes on her and not the glittering curves of her body. The woman looked down and pursed her lips, as if mildly annoyed by this realization. She took it from him and slipped it over her head. She was much smaller than him, the t-shirt falling to her knees.
“I need to speak to the High Lord of the Night Court,” She said again, rising to her full height.
Rhys, it’s a woman. Azriel spoke into his mind, remembering his brother existed.
Enamored was not strong enough a word for what he was feeling. She exuded night in the same way that Rhys did, such cunning grace and soft beauty. All with a threat underneath. Rhys appeared with a snap, expression smoothed over into the mask of the High Lord. He studied the being before him with his hands in his pockets.
“High Lord,” The woman’s eyes widened and she bowed, braids falling in a curtain around her face. Her voice was like personified darkness.
Azriel and Rhys shared a look, wondering how she possibly recognized him.
“Please,” Rhysand said, and she straightened. “Are you hurt from the fall?”
“No,” She shook her head, taking a step toward him. Azriel tensed, hands curling into fists. “Please, High Lord, I have something important to tell you.”
“I’d rather you introduce yourself first,” Rhysand drawled, still studying her, “Forgive me, but I am finding this meeting a bit strange. You don’t seem to be from this…area.”
The woman nodded her head, and the brothers watched as her form changed. Her skin became solid, a rich shade of brown, free of stardust. Her hair remained violet but now appeared tangible, no longer flowing like a waterfall. In this form her ears were pointed like Rhys’s. She looked like another fae now, save for the galaxy in her eyes.
“My name is Calytrix. I come from a celestial realm. My father is King Izar and a few weeks ago he made a deal that threatens your court.”
Rhysand and Azriel shared another look.
Then Rhysand reached for Calytrix’s arm and they were winnowing. Calytrix squealed, reaching toward the High Lord as they fell through the air. Rhys's wings flared out and he caught her in his arms, slowing his descent toward the balcony. Azriel was close behind, and he could see Cassian and Feyre in this distance flying toward them.
Calytrix shoved away from Rhys when they landed, stumbling once more to her knees and drawing in deep breaths.
“Apologies,” Rhys said, shoving his hands into his pockets again, striding past her into the House.
Azriel grasped her arm and helped her up, ignoring the sparks under his skin as they connected. He followed the High Lord and led her into the dining room. Rhysand sat at the head of the table and gestured for her to sit. She took a spot beside him, looking a little more wary as she looked around the grand room.
The glass doors opened again and Feyre nodded as she entered, saying nothing as she sat across from the strange woman. Azriel and Cassian remained standing, the former beside Rhsyand and latter beside the High Lady.
“Princess Calytrix, this is my wife, Feyre,” Rhys gestured to his stony-faced mate, “Now please, continue your story.”
Calytrix’s gaze swept over each figure. She had become surrounded before it could even register, and she assumed that they had done this on purpose. The four of them stared at her, unrelenting.
“As I said,” Calytrix swallowed, “I came here to warn you. My father made a deal with a death god that threatens your court.”
“What deal?” Rhysand demanded.
He conjured a pitcher of water and poured a glass for each of them. Calytrix didn’t take it, keeping her eyes on the raven-haired man beside her. He seemed as though he wanted to trust her, but he was holding back. She’d anticipated this, and she hoped her idea would be enough for him to trust her.
“My father offered soldiers in exchange for territory in this realm whenever Koschei has gained control. Night Court territory.”
A jaw in Rhysand’s muscle twitched, the only reaction he’d allow to show. Azriel felt his stomach drop at the mention of Koschei. His blood ran cold.
“How has Koschei managed to establish contact with other realms?” He asked, voice firm.
“I do not know that, my Lord,” Calytrix shook her head, “Only that my father speaks to him through an enchanted object that he keeps hidden.”
“And why do you come here, princess? What do you gain from exposing your father’s secrets?” He countered, sitting back with his arms crossed.
She looked so small in her chair, draped in Azriel’s shirt. The shadowsinger remembered her body hitting the water and a thread of sympathy wound through his chest. But he kept his expression neutral and said nothing.
“I believe Koschei is using my father,” She said, averting her gaze to the marble table and the crystal glass before her, “A King in our realm tried to occupy land here before, but our types of magic are incompatible and it did not end well. I believe my father has sacrificed a great number of soldiers for no gain. He will destroy our kingdom and your court.”
She shifted in her seat, skin flushing as she said the next words, “And I have studied the Night Court extensively. I consider myself…a fan. I do not wish to see it destroyed.”
“How are you here?” Feyre asked, her voice soft, “If the magic is incompatible?”
“The gates are open on this night,” She said, “As the stars travel through the realms. And I come as a visitor. I won’t try to claim anything as my own.”
“What are they?” Rhsyand blurted, his eyes gleaming. The conflict was momentarily forgotten as the answer to his centuries old question came within reach. “The stars?”
“I’m afraid I don’t have an answer for you, my Lord,” Calytrix smiled at his eagerness, “They are a mystery to us as well.”
Then she stood, ignoring the warriors tensing as she took a step toward Rhysand.
“I understand my words may be hard to believe,” She began, drawing herself up again to her full height, “I have read about the customs of the Night Court and I am prepared to offer a bargain in exchange for your trust. I believe this ordeal with the death god will harm my people just as much as yours. I have much to gain from your trust.”
“What bargain?” Rhysand asked, tilting his head to the side. His violet eyes locked onto hers, some familiar thread of magic seeming to sing between them. Like calling to like.
“If anything I have told you proves to be untrue, I will owe you my firstborn son.”
Cassian coughed and Azriel’s eyes widened. He searched Calytrix’s face, but she was utterly serious.
“Princess,” Rhysand sputtered, “I hardly have use for your firstborn son.”
“Well I don’t have one yet,” Calytrix said, shifting her weight as she noted the amused half-smiles, “It would be a promise. I understand that these bargains are very serious.”
“I have a better idea,” Rhysand said, biting back a laugh, “If you allow me to, I can use my power to look into your mind and read your intentions.”
Calytrix went still. Her eyes shifted ever so slightly toward the shadowsinger, wondering if the High Lord would be able to see her admiration for his warrior. For the beautiful figure that had been stuck in her mind since he’d found her on the beach. Far more beautiful than she believed the people in this realm could be.
No one saw that glimpse, except for Rhysand, of course.
“I’ll make you a bargain,” Rhysand said, his expression softening. She was young, likely no older than Feyre or her sisters. She was brave to come here. “If you show me the truth, I will not intrude on any private thoughts.”
Calytrix nodded, lips pursed. She went stiff as she felt his onyx claws scrape against her mind, eyes shutting tight. Azriel winced, swallowing the impulse to comfort her. No matter his intentions, it never felt good to have Rhys search your mind.
The High Lord sorted through her thoughts, evidently hitting a sore spot when Calytrix let out a choked whimper. Rhysand pulled away, his face grim. It was not often he enjoyed that task.
“She tells the truth,” He announced. Calytrix heaved a sigh and slumped in her chair.
“Your father doesn’t know you’re here,” Rhysand said carefully, brow furrowing.
“No,” She chewed her lip.
“How can we keep you safe, then?”
“I…was hoping to stay for tonight,” Calytrix said sheepishly, staring down at her hands in her lap, “And then I’ll go back and tell him I was kidnapped. He’d never guess I would come here.”
“Don’t you need to go back while the gates are open?” Feyre asked.
“Not if you have an Astraeus Ruby,” Calytrix shrunk into herself. Rhysand stared at her for a moment.
“Indeed I do,” His lips twitched up into a smile, “You have done your research well.”
“I don’t like it,” Azriel spoke for the first time since the beach. All heads snapped towards him, reminding him that he was still barefoot and shirtless. Feyre's eyes flicked over him with curiosity. He kept his expression firm, unmoving.
“There’s too many variables. What if the King guesses where you’ve gone? What if he sends someone after you? What if Koschei knows you’re here? I don’t think you should wait.”
Rhysand thought he saw Calytrix’s shoulders fall, just slightly. As if the shadowsinger’s words disappointed her.
“I can’t go back tonight,” She swallowed hard, “I snuck out before the party began, but the gate is in the grand room and they would all see my return. The party likely won’t even end until tomorrow midday. I tried to put a spell on myself so Koschei could not track me, but I do not mind if you would like to check it over.”
“Will they notice you’re not at the party?” Rhys asked. Calytrix pursed her lips again and said nothing. They took that as a yes.
The room fell into silence, each lost in thought. Azriel was kicking himself for making his attachment known. He should not care so much for this star girl, so shy and yet so brave. But he was drawn to her, like a planet in her orbit.
“We’ll figure something out in the morning,” Rhysand said softly, “For now, Feyre will show you to a guest room and find you some clothes. You’re welcome to rejoin our party if you wish, or rest if you need it. And tomorrow,”
Rhys paused and flashed a wry smile at Azriel, a mischievous glimmer in his eyes, “Azriel will give you a tour of Velaris.”
Azriel opened his mouth to protest, but Feyre was already whisking Calytrix away. The princess looked back at him with eyes alight and eager hope written clearly across her face.
So, he found himself nodding, offering her a small smile. And elbowing Cassian in the ribs as his brother giggled.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Azriel waited on the balcony, bouncing on his toes in an attempt to rid his body of nervous energy. He had been up early to meet with Rhysand, Cassian, and Feyre. The best they had come up with was sending the princess home with a way to contact them. If she needed some sort of evidence to aid her alibi, they would provide it.
Rhysand had checked over her spell and found it to be solid. No one would be able to track her. And since her father had no inkling of her plan, they should have a long while before he thought of searching other realms. Thus, she would stay for today and leave tonight at nightfall. Her tour of Velaris was the only gift Rhysand could give her for her bravery.
It made Azriel nervous, sending her back all alone with no protection, even if she insisted that she could take care of herself. Her skill with magic had admittedly impressed them all. But he was still worried and that made him wonder why he cared so much. He couldn't explain it.
The glass doors opened and Calytrix appeared, shaking the shadowsinger from his spiraling thoughts. She wore a Night Court outfit, flowy lilac pants and a cropped shirt with sheer sleeves. The colors suited her well, complimenting her hair and bringing out the warm tones of her skin. She had arranged her braids in a bun on top of her head, held in place with a piece of lilac silk. And Feyre must have gifted her earrings, sparkling amethyst tear drops.
Azriel found himself staring, gaze drifting over the curves of her body, her generous hips and exposed stomach.
“How do I look?” She flashed him a shy smile and turned in a little circle, ending with a flourish.
“Lovely,” Azriel breathed, his voice cracking, “You're a vision.”
He scolded himself internally one more time and cleared his throat.
“I thought we'd start with a snack and a coffee, how does that sound?”
Her eyes lit up, the stars and swirls glowing with excitement.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Azriel was a fool. He should have known from the first time she had locked eyes with him that he would never quite recover. The hold that she had on him left something behind that he would never be able to get rid of.
He was falling harder with every moment they spent together. Every tiny thing she revealed about herself knit into a story he was desperate to hear more of. Her eagerness to learn more about the night court, excitement over new things he showed her, her kindness to everyone she encountered. She seemed to trust him completely, blindly following him through the city.
He’d almost laughed when she pulled out a notebook and began taking notes in the cafe, writing down the name of the coffee and pastries he’d ordered. But he’d swallowed it down, not wanting her to think he was making fun of her.
She was as curious about his shadows as she was the city. Every time they ventured close, she held out a hand. Some of them shied away and some of them wound around her fingers. She told him that the feel of them was similar to running a hand through a nebula.
Next, Azriel took her to the aviary, drinking in her delighted laughter as she chased and studied the colorful birds.
“You don’t have an aviary in your city?” He asked, when they’d sat down for a break. Side by side under a willow tree filled with singing birds and fluttering wings. It was one of his favorite places in Velaris.
“Maybe,” She said, her gaze following the little creatures, “My father is very strict and protective. I don’t get out much.”
“I suppose that explains your eagerness to see the city,” He said, watching her as she watched the birds.
“How could I not be eager?” She smiled, “When the secret of the city was revealed a few years ago, the whole world had questions. Now I've seen it, and I might even be able to write up a paper and get it published.”
“You’re a writer, then?” Azriel asked. It made sense now, the grandiosity with which she described things. How desperately and diligently she wrote down every detail.
“Under an alias,” She met his eyes and he swooned all over again, “I spend a lot of time in our library since it’s one of the few places my father considers safe for me.”
“Do you know much about the Day Court?” He asked, tilting his head to the side. She looked back down at her notebook, suddenly shy.
His whole body itched with the desire to fly her to the Day Court right then. He would plant himself by her side as she skimmed every single book in the court and he would be sustained by her joy alone.
“Not much,” She confessed, “I must admit that my fascination with the Night Court has become a bit of an obsession over the past couple years.”
“They have hundreds of libraries there,” Azriel said, eyes twinkling. Her face lit up, as predicted. “You could spend an eternity there, I’d imagine.”
“With a friend to keep me cnompany, I suppose I could,” She dared to look at him again, letting her gaze linger. Her eyes flicked down to his lips for a split second.
Before he could register, she was standing, tucking her notebook back into her bag. It did not escape him the way her fingers trembled as she did so.
“Where next, tour guide?”
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Their tour definitely stretched a bit longer than what Rhysand had in mind, but Azriel could not bring himself to give her up. Calytrix did not seem eager to end their tour, either. At first the shadowsinger was certain it was only due to her research, but then she had worked up the courage to touch him.
She’d grasped his wrist and let out an excited sound when she’d laid eyes on the collector's section of his favorite book shop. Azriel swore his soul left his body. But then she did it again, brushing arms with him as they walked together. When he took her to the Sidra so she could dip her feet in the water, she grasped his hands for balance and didn’t let go for a long time.
Azriel felt like he was glowing. Like basking in her presence had woven his entire being with threads of her stardust. He would search the whole of Prythian for every Astraeus Ruby if it meant he had the chance to see her again. The looming goodbye tasted bitter, growing heavier as the sun reached toward the horizon.
“Have you had a good visit, princess?” He asked softly as they sat back on the balcony at the House of Wind.
They sat side by side again, legs dangling over the edge, almost close enough for their shoulders to connect. Only the anticipation of that touch between them.
“Are you kidding me?” She grinned, leaning her temple against the railing as she looked at him, “I’ve toured the entire city, met the High Lord and Lady, and I made a real Night Court bargain.”
“That wasn’t a real bargain,” Azriel’s lips twitched up into a smile, “He was being nice. If it had been a real one, you’d have a tattoo.”
Her eyes widened, flashing with something wild and determined.
“Make me a bargain,” She breathed, “I want a tattoo.”
“Is that a good idea?” Azriel’s eyebrows shot upwards. “Won’t your father see it?”
“Only when I’m in my fae form,” She said, grin growing with excitement, “Which only happens on special occasions. I’ll be so careful.”
“Okay,” Azriel chuckled, “What kind of deal can I offer you?”
Then she was quiet for a moment, staring at him. Deep in thought as the galaxies in her eyes whirled. Her smile faded and her breath quickened, and Azriel felt his own chest flutter in response.
“I want you to kiss me,” She whispered, eyes searching his, “If you kiss me, I’ll promise to come back next Starfall.”
Azriel’s heart leapt in his throat. This was probably a bad idea. Rhysand would never approve of it. The kiss, the tattoo, his lovesick stupor after only one day of knowing her. But he heard himself answer anyways,
“Yes.”
She leaned toward him, grasping handfuls of his shirt as his own hands reached to hold her face. They fit together so neatly, so comfortably. Calytrix leaned ever closer, tucking herself into his hold, and brought her lips to his. Her skin was so soft under his fingers, thumbs brushing over her cheekbones as he kissed her.
The bitterness grew to an ache, and then to a sharp pain erupting with sparks. A lump rose in Azriel’s throat as she tilted her head to kiss him deeper, lips brushing over his with such sweet reverence.
He had to give her up, send her back to the skies. This wonderful thing between them would cease. She made a sound against his mouth and he pulled back, frowning at the sadness written in her expression.
“What’s wrong?” He whispered, not letting go yet. She didn’t let go either, running her knuckles along his collarbone.
“I don’t want to go,” She croaked. “For so many reasons.”
Her eyes dropped from his face, pulling his shirt down farther to reveal the shooting star now inked on his chest. She released one hand and pulled down her own collar to see the matching tattoo.
“At least you have something to remember me by,” He smiled softly.
She shifted closer to rest her head on his shoulder, relishing the warmth of his body. They stayed like that until footsteps in the distance drove them apart. The High Lord appeared between the glass doors.
“It’s time to go,” Rhysand said softly, Astraeus Ruby in hand, “Feyre sends her regrets that she can’t see you off, but our son is throwing an especially spirited tantrum at the moment.”
“That’s alright,” Calytrix smiled as she stood, “But please, thank her for her hospitality.”
“Of course,” Rhysand handed her the gem, a blood red crystal that looked particularly delicate. Flecks of glowing silver danced inside it.
Calytrix pulled the scarf from her hair and shifted forms again, umber skin replaced by swirling cobalt dust. As she had said, the tattoo was never to be seen on her celestial form.
She said nothing more to Azriel, only held out the slip of purple silk for him to take. He grasped it with gentle fingers, rubbing his scarred thumb over the soft fabric.
“Please do not hesitate to tell us if you need anything,” Rhysand bowed his head, “We are grateful for your help and we will contact you as soon as we have decided our next move.”
“Thank you, High Lord,” She said, voice trembling.
She turned back once more to the shadowsinger and held his gaze as she placed the ruby on the ground. She raised her foot and crushed it under her shoe. Instantly, blue light burst from the shards and reached toward the sky in a wide beam.
In the last second before the light carried her into the night, her eyes widened, lips parting, as she stared at Azriel. A hand reached out of the beam but it did not reach him before the magic pulled her away.
Then both the light and the shards disappeared and Calytrix was gone.
Rhysand stared for a moment at the spot where she’d been, reminded of a similar moment so long ago. He glanced at the shadowsinger, cautiously, but Azriel was oblivious. He stared up at the stars, holding the lilac silk in his hands.
So, Rhysand said nothing, heart aching for this brother.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Azriel woke in the middle of the night to a snap, a flash of light visible from behind his closed eyes. He shot upright in bed, shadows darting out to assess the threat.
They found nothing, save for the folded note on his nightstand. The paper was deep blue, translucent and cool like the misty touch of his shadows. He opened it and found written in gold ink,
See you next starfall, my mate.
Your star,
Calytrix

His, Yours, Mine
Summary - Finding out you were pregnant should have been the best news. It's too bad you don't know which of your three mates is possibly the father, though.
Prompt - Day 3 - Secrets
Warnings - slightly hidden pregnancy trope, pregnancy, being put in a protective bubble, alcohol mentioned, slightly angsty but I know some of you are hurting from all the angst going around so it turns to Fluff quickly.
A/N - Happy @polyacotarweek day 3! I almost turned this into a Lucien x Reader x Tamlin fic before I decided to keep it with the batboys to include Starfall. There is still an urge to make a Spring Court Trouple version of this, though, so let me know. Also, I included how I imagined Rhysand discovering Feyre's pregnancy went. As much as I hate the storyline, I can see him being so emotional over a baby
💕Poly+ACOTAR Week Masterlist💕
Madja held your hand in hers as you cried. You cried from joy, from frustration, from shock, from sadness. This should have been the happiest news of your long life, but you found yourself more confused than anything.
“It is a blessing from the Mother, y/n.” She ran a hand along your cheek, “They will be overjoyed.”
The laugh you let out was bitter. “I can't even tell them who the father is.”
“Does it matter in this type of relationship? All of them will be happy. They all want a family with you, together."
To you, it mattered. It mattered so deeply that two weeks into knowing, you still had your scent glamored when your mates were home, hiding the babe from them until you thought of the perfect thing to say.
Guilt had started eating at you as you pulled away from them, lying about stress from the new play you were asked to write the symphony for. Azriel so desperately wanted a family, even if he would not admit it, and was willing to wait until after you had given his brothers their babies. Cassian wanted a daughter more than he wanted food some days. He spoke about it constantly, about how he would braid her hair and purchase her beautiful dresses. Rhys wanted every baby you two passed on the street, always stopping to say hello and get to hold the smallest members of his court. He said it was practice for when you would bless him. Son or daughter, it did not matter to him.
You felt like this was bound to disappoint two of them, a babe, but not theirs. You signed as you continued putting away the sheet music you had been composing on. "What are we going to do, little one?" You placed a hand on your stomach.
You were home alone, magic completely dropped, and so deep into organizing your next big composition, you had not noticed Rhys walking in with two glasses of champagne until they had long shattered on the floor.
“Baby,” he whispered. He fell to his knees before you, hands gripping your hips gently as his forehead rested against your lower stomach. “Baby.”
He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close to him, basking in the joy he was sending so deep down the bond that your other two mates appeared. Cassian, always with weapons in hand, dropped them instantly. He didn't even care as they joined the scatter glass and champagne on the floor. He was at your and Rhysand's side instantly, kissing you deeply before kneeling next to Rhys and kissing the side of you stomach. Azriel had frozen, eyes wide and staring at you. “You're sure?”
All Rhys could do was nod, whispering again, “Baby. We're having a baby."
Dinner was a celebration just the four of you. The males all too happily planning out a nursery. You pushed the food around your plate, feeling too guilty to enjoy the meal Cassian had made you all. “Y/n, what's wrong?” Azriel pulled you to him. “Is it the babe? Do you need to lay down?”
You felt tears begin to fall as the guilt consumed you. “I don't know which one of you is the father.”
You waited. Waited for the 3 of them to fight, to lay claim to the babe, but Cassian and Rhys just both looked at Azriel and then you. “It is technically Azriel's,” the High Lord spoke slowly. “You smell like him. But it is also mine. Also, Cassian's. The babe is ours. We all are it's father.”
“But-”
“Sweetheart,” Cassian took your hand. “We knew once this bond happened, there was a chance you would get pregnant, and we wouldn't know who fathered the baby until the scent kicked in.. We do not want to be fathers, though. We want to be dads. We love you and the little babe, regardless of you smelling like Azriel.”
Azriel was nuzzled into you. “We accepted a long time ago that everything you got pregnant, you would smell like only one of us, and that one of us would get more protective.” He kept scenting you. “I would have been happy if it was Rhysand's or Cassian's.”
Rhysand finally spoke again. “A babe is always a means for Celebration as well.” You groaned. “I am thinking of an announcement at Starfall? With all of our family there?”
“That's only 2 weeks for me to plan and put something together.” You were used to Rhysand giving you short deadlines for things involving your family, the rest of the Inner Circle, and the Court of Nightmares, but for all of Velaris? You held those events to such high standards, and had since Rhysand asked you to take over that duty as High Lady.
“You could keep it simple this time?” You turned slowly to Cassian, glaring as he put his hands up in surrender. “Or not. Murder hormones kicked in today. Noted."
And “simple” had no place in the description of what you had done. You had made the choice to have the Rainbow opened to the celebration, watching as guests admired every faelight enchanted to twinkle like the stars themselves, watching as every guest took their turns on the dance floor you had put temporarily into the center of the large open theater. Rhys had allowed you to spare no expense. Vendors had made countless cakes and treats, food was plenty, drinks were pouring, and the orchestra played lively music.
You were shielded in the magic bubble all three males had demanded you be put in, but it wasn't enough for Azriel, who hung behind you like a constant threat even in his finest dress clothing.
Your own dress showed the smallest curve where your child was growing, causing every guest who greeted you and High Lord to pass their congratulations unknowing of the circumstances. “Won't they all shit when they figure out Az put a baby in you first?” You slammed an elbow into Cassian's stomach, smiling at an elderly couple as they held Rhysand's hands, praising him for bringing the city all together to celebrate a Night Court tradition and such a joyous announcement.
“We are just getting some of them okay with the idea of all of us as a mated unit. Let's not cause any heart attacks, Cassian.” He nodded to your statement and held a water glass to your mouth.
“Going to be a long night, sweetheart. Let's stay hydrated.”
The music switched to a soft violin based turn, one you had composed as Starfall began. Azriel held you close as everyone's attention turned to the sky, including yours. All three of your mates had their eyes locked on you, soft smiles on their faces as they watched the childlike wonder wash over you despite years of witnessing the event. “Always so beautiful.”
“Of course you are,” Azriel whispered. “And you will look even more beautiful when you begin to show more.”
“I can't wait,” Rhysand's hand went to that small bump, “To hold our babe.”
Cassian's hand rested on Rhysand. “Our baby. The first of many.”
“We would toast you, darling, but no champagne for you,” Rhysand handed a glass to Cass and Az, then water to you. “Darling?”
“To the stars who listen,” your voice broke as tears of joy came.
“And the dreams that are answered,” they all echoed.

Summary: no one is more surprised than Eris Vanserra to find that he is capable of much more than just political ambition
Some art of the babies: (Nyx and Atlas) (All the gingersnaps) (Atlas and Leif) (Atlas) (the family)
Art by @dawneternal: Eris during the events of Cold was the steel of my axe to grind, portraits of the gingersnaps, art of Eris and Atlas
Gingerfucker week 2024 blurbs
Moodboard
It’s just to satiate the bond - an agreement to have sex just to satiate a mating bond neither party wants is a great idea. Surely no one will get hurt, right?
One single thread of gold tied me to you* - Eris accepts the mating bond and is incredibly touched by the effort you put into cooking him the meal from scratch
All’s well that ends well to end up with you - fears and doubts cause you and Eris to do your first irrational act together: a secret mating bond ceremony
I am ash from your fire - Surprising Eris one evening, you’ve turned up in the dead of night to let him know that your brother had figured out your secret relationship, offering you an ultimatum.
Cold was the steel of my axe to grind - centuries of plotting and scheming come to a head when his mate unexpectedly arrives in Autumn and Eris is desperate to set his plans in motion, least she become a piece for Beron to use against him
Chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons - Eris leaves his mate alone in the Forest House, telling her to trust no one but his mother. The two women are ill-equipped to provide frontline fighting, but surely they can help Eris in their own way. *companion piece to ‘Cold was the steel of my axe to grind’
Hell was the journey but it brought me Heaven - in the immediate aftermath of Beron’s death and the thrum of power in his veins, Eris’s mate forces him to, at the bare minimum, bathe
Secret exchanges - a few weeks after the aftermath of Rhys’s banishment, your mate, the new High Lord of the Autumn Court, has a secret meeting with someone from your family.
Blood moon in Autumn - fae cycles are no joke, but your mate is always there to provide you comfort in the best way possible: by being your personal heating pad
Have I found you, flightless bird? - a reflection of a life of secrets and expectations and how, despite it all, a flightless bird found home in an unlikely place
Ferocious beasts with soft bellies - Eris’s hounds know you’re pregnant before either of you do, driving the two of you wild with their newfound devotion to you.
Starfall in Autumn - based on the prompt for Starfall week “characters a and b realize they won’t make it to Starfall. They make the most of what they have to celebrate”
Laborious anxieties - Eris is riddled with anxiety leading up to your labor, but what happens when some of his worst fears come to fruition?
Cursing my name, wishing I stayed - your relationship with Rhysand had been icy at best, but your attempts to reconcile are quick to be shot down. A rash decision leads you to endangering your life - can Eris find you in time? Can he save your infant son?
Amber eyes, looking into mine - Eris finds something in his study that triggers him into a frozen state of panic. Who better suited to pulling Eris from his past than his future?
We started alone, in the end we’re okay - on a rare night alone, Eris reflects on his long life and the lonely nights that haunted his youth. And how he’s a long way from the person he was and the person he had to be.
Fireling - every father’s dream is to be there the day his son first uses his powers. Luckily for Eris, he gets just that.
How the kingdom lights shine just for me and you - Eris tells his sons a story, letting them know how a strong knight defeated an evil dragon and saved the kingdom.
Loving parents, harmless fun - Modern!Gingerfucker - slice of life where Eris takes his family on a roadtrip and is only slightly annoyed at his son’s choice of car game

We named someone else after you
My second fanfic. Sort of a continuation of the last one, but not really. Hope you like it
Contains topics of fertility issues
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
“He then tried to fly and catch them,” Rhys told you with the biggest smile on this face. “He just gets cuter and cuter.”
He was explaining everything you missed from the Starfall celebration.
You were seated at your usual spot in the usual cafe for your lunch. Something you two had tried to do every week after you got free from Under the Mountain. It was a time for you to be normal siblings, not the high lord and his spy sister.
“We’re quite sad you two missed it,” your brother said with a glimmer in his eyes. “What is it you do every Starfall anyway?”
Ever since your first year together as mated the two of you had spent the earlier hours of Starfall recreating your first date. A picnic up at the mountains eating food made with your mother’s recipes. Since Azriel had been on a mission until the day of Starfall, you decided to spend the evening of Starfall together instead.
You huffed. “We’ve been doing it over 400 times, if you think we’ll start telling you about it now, you’re terribly mistaken.”
“But Feyre knows! It’s unfair that I don’t.”
It’s true. You had told Feyre a lot about you and Az’s mating bond when she spent some days at the cabin trying to figure out what she wanted to do with her mating bond to your brother. She asked questions, you answered, as long as she never told anyone about it.
Rhys then shifted in his chair and you knew what was coming.
“About what Mor said,” he started.
On Starfall, Mor had dressed you in a beautiful blue, backless gown with slits on both sides. You had asked her about the color that looked suspiciously similar to the colors of your mates siphons, but the female only answered that it was “a total accident”.
The dress was beautiful, but extremely different from what you usually would wear.
When you went down to the rest of your family Cassian had basically yelled when he asked: “who are you trying to impress? Last time I checked your going on to your 475th year as a mated female.”
You of course snapped back asking if he had become too old to see the difference between your and Mor’s clothing style.
Rhys, with a comforting hand on your shoulder, asked Mor why she dressed you. “I want to be an aunt again.” your friend answered with a smile. You had tensed, but luckily for you, your mate had come and saved you from the conversation.
“It’s nothing,” you told Rhys.
“Bullshit, I know you. I felt you get tense,” your brother said and you knew there was no way for you to get away from the conversation. “You don’t want kids?” he said that the same time you started speaking.
“I can’t-“ you stopped. “Wait what?”
“I just wanted you to know that if you don’t want kids, I’m sure Mor would understand. You should just tell her and she shouldn’t bother you about it again. I’m sure you two know that.”
You weren’t sure what you were supposed to say. Of course you wanted kids. You had always wanted to have a few young, winged children to run after. And you have loved being an aunt for Nyx, making you even surer that you wanted to be a mother.
“It’s not that we don’t want kids,” you hesitated.
Lucky for you, your brother knew you better than anyone else, except for Azriel of course. He soon realized what you meant.
“You’re sure?” He just asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“I mean, we have been trying, but never succeeded,” you said looking down at your hands, trying not to cry.
Rhys let out a breath. “I’m so sorry, y/n/n. I didn’t know.”
You let out a small laugh. Of course he didn’t know. You and your mate were spies for cauldron’s sake! If you didn’t want anyone to know, no one would know.
“How long have you been trying?”
You looked up and met his worried eyes. He grabbed your hands and was stroking his thumb over yours.
“If you don’t count during Amarantha, neither one of us has taken the potion since our 100th year anniversary.”
315 years.
“Wow,” was all Rhys managed to say. His eyes staring directly into yours.
You removed your hands from his.
“Did Cassian manage to remove the wine stain from the carpet?”
“No, and Feyre is pissed,” Rhys answered, understanding your attempt to change the topic.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
“You never mentioned you would be feeling this bad,” you mate said, holding your hair and stroking your back as you threw up once again.
“I told you it would be like my cycle just lasted four times longer,” you told him back. Your voice groggy.
You were trying a new fertility treatment. You had tried different ones before, but so far nothing worked. This one was particularly bad. After your cycle, you would spend three weeks taking daily potions. The potions didn’t taste too bad, but you would spend the following hours dizzy and nauseous with an aching pain in both your head and stomach.
“I don’t like seeing you like this,” your mate continued. “Your sure you want to keep doing this?”
You had now curled onto his lap. His arms were around your waist and his shadows tried to cool you down.
“I want to give you children,” you just answered, curling deeper into your mate. His comforting smell lowering your symptoms a little and making you tired. “And I want to be a mother.”
“Then I’ll help you through this, but if you change your mind, just tell me, okey?”
You nodded, starting to fall asleep.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It’s been another year after your treatment and you had lost all hope.
Azriel didn’t blame you, he would never, but you felt awful for not being able to give him and yourself children. But eventually, you started to feel content in your life without mini you’s. You were the best aunt and uncle to Nyx and Cassian and Nesta’s small babe.
This particular day, you had taken Nyx to get ice cream. Your mate had just days before, left for a month long mission at the continent. You had chosen to stay back home in Velaris to help your brother and Feyre dealing with a particularly busy period.
You had just sat down, exhausted, in Rhys office when you felt sick.
“He loves me! You just bribe him with some ice cream and suddenly you become his favorite! If I knew that, I would have done that all a-“
You had to throw up. You stood up and ran to the closest bathroom, Rhys not far behind.
“What’s going…” you threw up, “…on?” Your brother asked holding your hair away from your face.
“Probably just some bad ice cream,” you said.
“So you haven’t been sick before this?” He asked.
“Of course not, I think I would have-“ you started. But then you remembered that you also threw up after eating breakfast yesterday…and the day before that, and also the day before that. And when you first thought about it, you realized your back pain also had been a little worse than usual these days. “I guess I have been sick the last couple of days, but I’m sure it will pass.”
Rhys looked at you with big eyes. He then took three big breaths through his nose, smelling. He then smiled his biggest smile, shook his head and laughed a little. His actions confused you.
“I think you should go to Madja, sweetie,” Rhys said and basically pushed you towards the exit of his house. “And I’ll get Azriel home.”
“What? Why?”
“You can be quite daft sometimes, you know.”
You started to get annoyed, but then you realized it. The throwing up, the low energy, your brother’s smelling. Your violet eyes grew wide.
“Holy shit,” was all you were able to say. Rhys continued laughing.
You walked into Madja’s clinic and she immediately met you at the door to her office.
“Come here, love. Your brother said you were coming.”
With a comforting hand on your back, Madja guided you into the room. Madja had been with you every step of your fertility journey, so you were quite happy she was there for you.
You laid down and Madja started looking and using her powers on your stomach. She tried to stay professional, but a huge smile soon grew on her face.
“You are indeed pregnant, love. A healthy, winged babe. You’re at about eight weeks.”
You were overcome with joy and soon both you and Madja were crying tears of happiness.
You were still in shock when you walked through the doors of your home. In your hand you held a bag with a small newborn onesie in it. You had never been good at surprises, but a onesie was a good start.
You turn around when you heard the door to you cottage open in a rush. Before you could react, your mate’s shadows were swirling around you. Soon your mate’s hands were on your shoulders and his worried eyes met yours.
“You’re okay? Rhys said you threw up and just asked me to come home as fast as possible. Please say you’re okay.”
You immediately forgot all your plans about surprising Azriel and just blurted it out.
“I’m pregnant.”
You’re never going to forget the joy on your mate’s face. He was glowing and so were you.
“You’re not joking, right?” He asked and you let out a laugh while you shook your head.
You then picked up the bag that you had dropped on the floor and took out the onesie.
“A healthy, winged babe at eight weeks,” you whispered and started to cry again.
“You’re incredible,” Azriel answered with a tear running down his cheek.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Even though Rhys already knew, you wanted to wait a little longer before you told the rest of your family. You were quite sure they already knew, because of how protective Azriel, but also Rhys had been ever since founding out.
You were now 15 weeks along and started to become more and more difficult to hide your pregnancy. To your dismay you also still threw up multiple times a day and Madja was seriously considering putting you on bed rest.
You decided now would be a good time to tell everyone. All of you were at family dinner and you had just finished dinner.
“Now?” You asked your mate in his mind.
“Now,” he answered.
You waited until no one was speaking before you started.
“We have something we wanted to tell you,” you started to speak, taking your mate’s hand in yours. “I’m four months pregnant.”
Everyone was gaping at you.
“Gods! We thought you were dying or something!” Mor exclaimed. “We’ve never seen Azriel and Rhys that protective of you before!”
Before you could answer her, Cassian had pulled you out of your chair and into a bone crushing hug.
“Careful, Cass,” your mate hissed at his brother.
But it was too late, Cassian’s quick movements made you nauseous and you were rushing to the closest bathroom to throw up. Azriel of course followed you.
When you came back to the room you were surrounded by Feyre, Nesta and Mor. You asked: “you thought I was dying?”
“We had started to realize that you perhaps could not have children, so when you suddenly became distant and Az and Rhys looked so worried and distracted, we immediately thought the worst,” Mor explained. “But we’re soooooo happy!”
“Your child will be so cute!” Feyre said.
“And so close in age to our babe!” Nesta said smiling.
After a while, Cassian slowly moved towards you wearing an apologetic smile. “I’m so sorry, little one. I’m just so happy you’re finally going to be parents.”
“It’s okay, Cass. You’re forgiven, by me at least.” You gazed towards your mate that still looked very displeased with Cassian.
You walked over to your love and said “our child has the best family” while your hand rested on your stomach.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The birth had been hard. You were in labor for over 20 hours before you could start to push. You weren’t happy about it, and you grew more irritated by the hour. No less than three times had you kicked your mate out of the delivery room for breathing too loud, stroking your hair too much and asking if you needed something to drink.
But eventually you held your baby boy in your arms. And Azriel held you in his arms.
The moment of peace and happiness only lasted about five minutes, before you started to get worse and worse contractions once more.
You remember feeling scared, annoyed and frustrated when you heard Madja mutter the words “there is another one” to your mate.
Your second babe, a girl, was a lot smaller than her brother, but she also had wings.
“I don’t know how we didn’t see her! She’s a sneaky one.”
With two babes in your mate’s arms and a heart fuller of love than ever before, you finally got some rest.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
After spending two days recovering from the birth, you were finally ready to introduce your babes to your family.
Everyone was in the living room of the River House waiting for you.
You walked in first, carrying your son.
Your family muttered how cute and how beautiful wings your babe had, but your eyes were set on only your brother.
You slowly sat down beside him on the couch and carefully let your son into his arms.
Rhys and Feyre both looked in awe at the boy that even at two days old looked like a copy of his father.
“I want you to meet Rhyland,” you said with a smile. Doing your best not to cry.
However, the second your brother’s wide and teary eyes met yours, you couldn’t hold it back anymore.
No one spoke for a while. Everyone was just enjoying seeing and holding their new family member.
As Cassian handed your son back to you, he said “I can’t believe you named him after Rhys and not me.”
The comment was obviously meant as a joke, but you had hoped he would say something like that. “You can come in now,” you told your mate through his mind.
“That’s because we named someone else after you.”
The door opened and in walked your amazing mate with your tiny daughter in his arms.
“We also wanted you to meet Cassandra,” Azriel said as he showed your daughter to Cassian, not quite ready to let go of her.
“How could you not tell us you were having twins,” Nesta gaped at you.
“We didn’t know,” you simply replied.
When you got home later that evening, Azriel carried both your sleeping babes and put them in their cribs.
“You’re an amazing father,” you told him. “It makes me love you even more, if that’s possible.”
He gave you a small kiss, before he picked you up and carried you to your bed as well.
“I can’t wait to raise them with you,” he said. “My amazing, incredible and beautiful mate.”

Azriel x Reader
Synopsis: Celebrating Feyre's 21st with a large party at the House of Wind proves to be quite triggering for you as you battle with the demons that followed you out of Under the Mountain.
Warnings: Panic attack (claustrophobia) followed by super fluff
A/N: This is really a cute fic, maybe one of my favourites. Reader has a panic attack so proceed with caution or don't at all if you think this may upset you! Let me know what you think!
P.S laughing that after Jilted I said I'd give you a more silly goofy fic and then produce this 👀 next one I promise!👀
------------------------------------------------
Fifty years. Fifty years you and Rhysand were separated from your family. Days dripping into weeks, into months, into years. Birthdays, Starfalls, and Solstices lost to the mountain. You had both been reunited with your family for a year now, your first Winter Solstice as a family again. You stood on the balcony watching your friends dance and drink and be free, Rhysand having thrown a large party for Feyre's 21st birthday. A genuine smile grew at the sight of such joy, all on their way to becoming whole again. Your eyes found Feyre and Rhysand drifting up the stairs towards a secluded balcony, your smile doubling in size at the mischievous grin plastering your cousin's face.
“Don’t you look radiate YN” You turned to look down at Azriel at the bottom of the grand staircase.
“Don’t I always Az” he nodded in agreement, closing in the distance between you, you had missed him deeply, never thinking you’d have the pleasure of dancing with your best friend again. Azriel had spent your time away from him in utter torment, echoed in his friend's mutual feelings of uselessness at the loss of the two of you.
“Azriel, there you are! Come watch the surprise with me, fireworks I believe” Elains little voice came from behind Azriel, he turned happily towards her, a pang of jealousy beating through you. Before the Mountain took you from your family you and Azriel were quickly developing into more but something cracked in you, you couldn’t find your way back to him when you were freed. He gave you the space you needed to recover and in that time found a new obsession in Elain and you accepted that you may never be fixed but Elain could be.
“Would you like to come too YN?” you sensed the undertone of pity from Elain that Azriel would never see as anything other than her caring. You tried to keep the smile on your face, faltering for a moment before returning to full strength.
“I’m actually going to get a drink from inside, but go ahead” You looked up at the night sky, such beauty you missed so much, Azriel looked at you with the same sentiment before following Elain back down the steps.
You entered the House Of Wind through the gigantic doors, caterers frantically ran from place to place holding various trays and jugs. You ducked and dove avoiding the chaos, no one noticed you as you moved through the mayhem, your speciality. You took a flute of champagne from a passing tray before catching a glimpse of your face in a large silver serving dish. You looked tired, still not yourself a year later.
You headed into the closest bathroom in a service hallway, gently pining up fallen strands of hair. You sighed into the mirror of the small room, feeling the mask slip for a moment before you righted it again, forcing the fake smile so as not to make others uncomfortable.
Your hand moved to the door handle, shaking it gently when you found it did not give under your touch. You pushed the door, it solidly pushing back. You tried to squash the rising panic in your throat, this is fine this is fine this is fine you repeated over and over like a mantra in your mind.
You lowered yourself to look out the keyhole to find solid wood staring back at you. They had blocked you in with a large, solid, service trolley, wider than the door you tried to push through. You banged on the door with your palms, calling out for anyone, the shouts getting lost in the bedlam of the service hallway before it emptied entirely, the staff going to watch the show.
You backed away from the oak, trying to catch your fleeting breath. Trapped. Trapped. Trapped. The word roaring in your head, dizzying dread coming to a boiling point in you. Trapped. Trapped. Trapped.
Suddenly a loud bang was set off, and another and another. You found yourself collapsing to the freezing floor of the forgotten bathroom, screaming to match the pitch of the fireworks outside. You clung your knees into your chest before beginning to frantically paw your ears trying to stop the drumming. Your fingers matting into your hair, making it a knot in the chaos of trying to block the sound. You were hyperventilating as the fireworks came on with more fierceness. You were drowning. You were back Under The Mountain. You were back to being out of control. Back to being being kept deep within the earth, the sound of Fae being tortured mimicked in the booming fireworks.
“YN!” through the thick choking energy of your fear, a familiar voice came like a lifeboat in a storm but you were gone to the sea. Gone to the panic. Drowning. Drowning. Drowning. Steady, scared hands reached for your tangled hands pulling them from clawing your ears, out of blurry vision you saw the opened door, the towering service trolley smashed to the ground as Azriel clung to your hands. You tried to dive for the gap, off balance from the panic, unable to lift yourself from your seat, you fell onto your side on the tile, the thud of your chin echoing in Azriels ears.
“YN! You’re okay you’re okay!” he pulled you upright and rubbed the back of your hands as your tormented eyes found him through the floods of tears. He counted quietly in rhythm, helping you to steady your breathing but the flashbacks of that horrid place and great loss ran through your mind like a runaway train. This was Azriel. Azriel. Azriel. This was home. Home. You were home. Another booming firework was set off, plunging you back to being drowned. Azriel stood, plucking you from the ground like a discarded rag doll before he dissolved you both in shadows.
The two of you landed with control on the bridge that crossed the Sidra. The sound of the fireworks merely bursts in the distance. Your hands lay flat on the cold stone of the bridge and then you were violently ill, vomiting into the rushing river below as Azriel rubbed your back with one hand and held your hair gently in the other. You then sailed to the ground, your back resting against the freezing stone, waves of panic replaced with equal volumes of exhaustion. Silence swaddled you like comfort, shadows softly sweeping away stray tears as they fell. You found a small smile tug at the corners of your mouth at them, Azriel’s muscles relaxing at the sight.
“Thank you Az” you managed to breathe out.
“Please don’t thank me, it's my job to-to protect you” You rolled your head along the stone to look towards the shadowsingers soft gaze. You leaned into his side, gazing up to your beloved Velarian sky, your heart rate returning to softening levels.
“YN ho-how often does that happen you?”
“More than I want to admit Az, I feel like I haven’t slept in 50 years” you admitted, his hand wrapping into yours.
“Go back to the party Az, Elain will be wondering where you ran to”
“You’re crazy if you think I’m leaving you, c’mon let's walk home” he smiled, standing and pulling you up to meet him, his hand slotting in around your waist to support your weakened legs. You both began to stroll in the direction of Azriel’s disused apartment, more often than not he opted to stay in The House of Wind or the Town House rather than sleep alone in his house. But tonight, those places were in the thick of the loud celebration, his secluded apartment on the other side of the Sidra a haven from the revelry. You didn’t object to this knowing you hadn’t it in you to go back into the bustling city.
You followed Azriel into his small studio apartment, and he immediately set about cleaning the space you hadn’t been in in 51 years.
“Sorry for the mess” He threw stray clothes into a basket as you looked around the place you didn’t think you’d ever see again, the mess of forgotten projects and clothes a new feature for the normally regimented Illyrian.
“I umm didn’t come here much when you were-when you were gone” he admitted before flicking his wrist and the sheets of the bed changed.
“Why not? You used to love to brood up here” you grinned, sitting on the edge of the soft cotton sheets. Azriel threw his suit jacket over a chair and began rolling his shirt sleeves up, without taking his eyes from you, his own smile matching yours. You suddenly felt conscious of the mess of now matted hair and make-up down your face, your hand wiping the smudges of kohl away from under your eye.
“To be honest YNN, it felt wrong here without you, the whole of Velaris did” he crossed the room to the dresser, reaching into the top drawer to pull out one of your night sets.
“I can’t believe you still have some of my things here”
“I kept them for when you would come back…I never let myself think that you weren’t coming back to me” You took the set from him, smiling softly before moving to change in the bathroom, leaving the door open as Azriel threw a pillow for himself on the couch, snapping his fingers and changing into his own night attire. He tried not to let his eyes linger on you as you moved towards his bed for the first time in forever before you layed down in the buttery sheets.
“Az-Can you-Can you sleep here next to me, I know it might be weir-” You didn’t get to finish as Azriel needed no further invitation, sinking into the bed alongside you. He merely snapped his fingers and the lights dropped only to have one in the corner of the room stayed lit for your comfort.
“Are you feeling okay YNN?”
“Mmm, thanks for leaving the light on” you hummed in response.
"It's for me as much as you, I share you're sentiment about being kept in the dark" you nuzzled gently into his side at his heartbreaking words and for the first time in so long you knew you’d sleep with nothing but ease.
“I missed you so much my love” He whispered into your hair, sleep taking full hold of you as he kissed your forehead and found yourselves sleeping the best he had in 51 years.
-
For the rest of the night you both stayed in cuddled bliss, the world going on around you but the only place that mattered was the world you had both made in his apartment.
The light came through the slots of the blinds hitting his eyes as he woke and rested his chin on the top of your head as you were deeply cuddled into him, the clock showing 8:30am. He gently pulled from you as you groaned but still unable to open you’re world-weary eyes.
-
You shot up in the bed to the sound of a crash, for a moment forgetting where you were only to laugh at the recoiling Illyrian holding a frying pan while wincing in the kitchen across from you, his wings coated in a thin layer of flour.
“What the fuck Az?” you found yourself laughing before rubbing your hands down your face and glancing at the clock as it showed 10am.
“Don’t laugh at me, I’m trying to be be cute!” You raised an eyebrow, throwing your legs over the side of the bed and standing. Your mouth fell open at the full sight of the destroyed kitchen. Every single surface covered in various baking ingredients. You walked cautiously towards the floury disarray before looking into a bowl of what you presumed started as pancakes. You attempted to move the whisk in the batter, it stuck to the bowl like a stick in cement.
“Az, what possessed you to try to poison me?” you laughed so heartily it made Azriels heart leap.
“I was trying to comfort you” he genuinely seemed embarrassed, your hand going to his cheek, wiping away flour freckles.
“I love that you’re such an adorable dork” You shook your head gently grinning.
“I love you” Your hand slowly dropped from his face in almost shock at his words.
“I love you so fucking much YN, I hated myself every day you were gone for not saying it and for the past year I wanted to but I didn’t want to add to any stress you might be holding on to-”
“-You could never make me stress Az…unless you make me eat this” you laughed and his eyes beamed at the sound he wished to only hear for the rest of his life. You wrapped your arms around his neck and he happily leaned into the kiss. Home. This was home and this was Azriel.
“I love you too” you breathed against his lips, his hands meeting your hips before dropping to the backs of your legs and lifting you from the ground. Your legs wrapped around him as you caught hold of his t-shirt, deepening the kiss further, for the first time in a year you felt the deep crack in your soul begin to stitch together again. The kiss grew hungrier as Azriel angled you to hover you above the counter before gently putting you down.
“ARGH!” you shrieked as the freezing cold pancake batter he put you down on soaked immediately through your shorts. You leapt from the counter with lightning speed, trying to pull the fabric from your skin as Azriel roared with laughter.
“Something funny flour face?” you said through rising laughter as Azriel tried to collect himself.
“If you get a chance do you think you could take some of the batter off your shorts and make breakfast” you lightly scoffed at his words before taking a fist of batter and clapping it right into his chest.
“Oh you’re so dead YN!” he howled at the cold through tears of laughter, grabbing the bowl and proceeding to chase you around his house, your home.

Ride for Me
Cassian x Reader [Starfall Week Day 1]
Summary: @starfallweek Day 1 Prompt: Rumor has it, stardust increases attraction, and character A could really use some help right now…
Warnings: None
Word Count: 804
Notes: Starfall Week 😍
_________________________________________
“Sweetheart,” Cassian chuckles against your lips, groaning when you slide your tongue easily into his mouth, grazing it languidly against his, “We’re going to be late.”
“Don’t care,” you pant, pressing even closer to his large body. He’s so warm, solid in all of the right places. Namely, his cock stirring against your hip. “Need you so badly, Cassian. Please.”
You want to whine when his large, calloused hand caresses your jaw, gently straightening to his full height. His hazel eyes are swimming with an emotion that is gone before you can pick up on it, but the soothing motion of his thumb against your cheek helps settle the raging need inside of you.
“What’s gotten into you today?” he wonders. Then, as if he’s made some sort of mistake, he tacks on quickly, “Not that I’m complaining. I love when you’re all needy for me…” His voice turns rougher and he pinches your hindsight which makes you jolt against him. He grunts a little at the feeling. Maybe you don’t need to be at the House of Wind on time…
You shrug bashfully, cheeks pinkening. “I don’t know,” you admit, “There’s something about Starfall that always gets me a little…”
“Aroused?” he teases, dipping down to pepper your cheeks with kisses because you’re too adorable not to. “No need to get all shy on me, sweetheart. I can smell it on you, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever smelled.”
His words make your grip tighten around his neck and your thighs tremble. His hands are so big where they’re settled on your hips and you just want to feel those hands all over your skin, running down your sides, cupping your breasts, slipping into your cunt—
“Fuck, sweetheart,” he groans, dropping his head onto your shoulder and nuzzling into your neck. You shiver as his breath tickles your throat. Cassian digs his nose in, right where he can scent you the most. “You might just break me yet.”
“It wouldn’t take much,” you croon, dragging your nails right down his back, reveling in the way that his grip on you tightens and he nips at your neck. “We can be a little late,” you offer, but it sounds more like a desperate plea. You’re uncomfortably wet, the ache between your legs distracting and in need of relief.
“We can,” Cassian answers, his lips brushing the shell of your ear. You squeeze your eyes shut, moving even closer into him, pressing your breasts up against his chest. “But then everyone would know that I fucked you so hard that you couldn’t walk.”
There’s always something about Starfall that has you feeling like this. Maybe it’s the energy in the air, the excitement of seeing the greatest Night Court tradition, spending it with your mate. The celebration leaves you feeling needy, like those colorful star clusters darting across the night sky brings a spirituous sense to the court, to your soul.
It started early this year.
“So maybe we don’t show up at all,” you try to joke, but a night alone with your mate under the stars sounds too perfect, you don’t think Cassian would ever go for it.
As if you’re right, Cassian pulls away slightly, staring deeply into your eyes. His face is serious as his gaze flickers between each of your eyes, taking you in. “Is that what you want, mate?” he asks softly, and it makes your heart ache a little.
You’d love to spend the night alone with Cassian, but you understand how important it is for him to spend it with the rest of the Inner Circle. It’s been an important tradition to him for centuries now, long before you came into the picture. You couldn’t ruin that for him, you wouldn’t ruin that for him.
You part your lips to speak but Cassian’s already swooping you into his arms and bounding for your bedroom. “What…?”
His voice is gruff, sure of his words as he strides for your room. “My mate needs me,” he says, and butterflies explode in your stomach. “Everyone is going to understand that,” Cassian adds softly when he feels the worry emanating through your shared bond. He plants a reassuring kiss to your forehead, shouldering his way through the doorway. “And if they don’t, they can get fucked.”
“That’s what I’m trying to do,” you beam and he laughs. You snuggle closer into his chest, loving the way that it rumbles with his laughter.
“You’ve succeeded in that, sweetheart,” Cassian whispers, finally setting you down on your feet right at the foot of the bed. Your heart jumps into your throat when he gets down on one knee, but he’s lifting your foot, helping you out of one shoe and then the other. “Now, let me help you out of this dress.”

Lipstick Kisses (Azriel x Female! reader)
AN: while I LOVED my last Azriel fic I felt kinda bad about how it ended to so even though this was supposed to be a Cassian fic I thought I would switch it up just to say I’m sorry lol
Summary: You and Azriel weren’t together. But you also weren’t not together. Sure he warmed your bed nightly, but he had made it clear that he was hesitant to date his best friend, Rhysand’s, little sister. You were content to play the game until one night a certain princess got so far under your skin you couldn’t see straight.
Warnings: jealousy, unprotected sex, cockwarming if you squint?
Word Count: 2496
(all pics are from pinterest)
Rita’s had never been so busy before. Packed from wall to wall with members of every court here to celebrate the week leading up to Starfall. A tradition my brother had long since put on. Everyone seemed to be merry and happy, even Azriel who stood at the bar with the Princess of Adriata.
Azriel and I had been hot and heavy for a couple of months. My whole life the shadowsinger and I had danced around one another, flirting here and there but never acting. It wasn’t until one night when I ran into the spymaster in the hallway of the House of Wind, when we couldn’t stay away from one another. It was a mess of hands, teeth, tongues and kisses as he took me against the wall. From that moment on Azriel sought to warm my bed nightly, but nothing more and I never thought to ask him why for fear of losing him. We weren’t together, weren’t not together. And I had no right to stare daggers at the Princess of Adriata, yet here I stood, at the edge of the room doing just that.
“Looking a little tense there y/n,” Cassain drawled, nudging my shoulder.
“I am not tense,” I gritted out.
“Then why does it look like you’re about to shatter that glass with your bare hand?” he retorts. I look to where my polished fingers are gripping my cocktail in rage.
“I’m just scared someone is going to knock my drink out of my hand, it’s super busy in here,” I say, loosening my grip on the glass.
Cassian let out a chuckle, “You sure it has nothing to do with the way Az is looking at the Princess of Adriata?” he smirked. While Az and I hadn’t told anyone about our nightly escapades, poor Cassain was practically forced to have the knowledge as his room was next to mine.
I meet Cassian’s eyes in a sideways glare causing him to laugh again.
“Of course he wants The Princess of Adriata,” I sneer at her name.
“You’re a Princess too y/n,” Cassian reminds me.
“Yeah well apparently not the right type,” I huff, turning around so I don’t have to watch them smile and flirt anymore.
“You should get him back,” Cassian muses.
“If you’re trying to take me into your bed again it won’t work.” I laugh while sipping my drink, remembering a different drunken night, or a few of them, that Cassian and I had shared at Rita’s.
“You wound me Princess, you can’t say you didn’t enjoy yourself all those years ago,” he smirked, bumping my shoulder again.
“Illyrians really are sensitive babies. Now what kind of revenge did you have in mind?” I smirk into my glass.
“You got some red lipstick in that bag?” his eyes gleamed.
I rummage around through the mess of trinkets in my purse till I find the red rouge sitting in the bottom and pull it out. “Looks like I do,” I say, holding it up for him to see.
“Perfect, now put it on,” he says standing in front of me so I can use his siphon as a mirror as I always had for years anytime I needed to fix my makeup or hair. He used to hate it, but now I think it makes him feel special.
“I fail to see where this is going,” I contest putting the lipstick back in my bag.
Cassian didn’t say anything, he just pointed to his cheek asking for me to kiss it. I rolled my eyes and obliged. When I pulled back a bright red lipstick stain adorned his cheek and I realized what he was doing now.
“Cassian, you're a genius,” I laugh.
“Well I am a specialist in war tactics after all. Now go around and say hello to every Lord in here and greet them with one of your sweet kisses. The second Az looks around he’s going to lose his mind.” he explains.
“Thanks Cass,” I laugh before turning away but I feel his hand on my arm.
“I think I might deserve a little more thanks than that Princess,” he says playfully.
“Fine you big baby,” I roll my eyes before placing a quick kiss on his lips seeing the lipstick residue there.
“You’re welcome princess,” he smirks triumphantly before turning away.
I turn to the crowd of people in front of me scanning the hundreds of happy faces packed into the tavern. Like a beacon of hope I find Thesan conversing with two other Lords, the perfect target.
“Thesan!” I cheer, “My brother and I are honored to have you here in our court,” I greet him sweetly, pressing a discreet kiss to his cheek.
“Princess it’s always a pleasure to be in your presence,” Thesan smiles warmly. “May I present Lord Baylor and Lord Suffolk.”
Both Lords reach their hands out to mine and I push them away, “Please I’ve never been fond of handshakes,” I smile gently, embracing each of them and pressing kisses to their cheeks as well.
“We are honored to be here Princess y/n, the stories of your beauty still don’t do you justice,” Lord Baylor smiled.
“You all flatter me too much, it’s going to go straight to my head,” I tease playfully before excusing myself to mingle with the other lords.
I continue my charade until my drink empties and I’m forced to retreat to the bar for another. I be sure to pass right by where Azriel and The Princess of Adriata are talking before leaning against the bartop and requesting my regular. I try to hide the smirk when I feel a certain scarred hand graze my elbow.
“Is there a reason why those red lips have been on the cheek of every man here tonight Princess?” Azriel says lowly into my ear.
“I’m just being a good host Az,” I say, not keeping my eye off the bartender making my drink.
“More than good the way I see it,” he grits and his hands trace the backs of my arms. The bartender brings my drink over and I leave a large tip in his jar. I finally turn to meet Azriel’s intense gaze.
“Don’t be so jealous Azriel, after all we aren’t even together,” I tilt my head before sauntering off.
When I get back to the House of Wind that night I’m utterly exhausted. I open the door to my bedroom and kick my shoes off sending them flying across the room. My dress is the next to go, falling in a pile on the floor. I wash up, and slip on my nightgown before falling into my bed with a sigh, too lazy to turn off the small fae light next to me. I try to sleep but it’s not the same without a certain Illyrian next to me.
A half hour later I hear the door open slowly, I pretend to still be asleep not wanting to even speak to Azriel. When I had left Rita’s he was still talking with The Princess of Adriata, and this time she had a hand on his bicep.
I heard daggers and leathers falling to the ground as the bed sank behind me.
“Scooch over Princess, there's no room for me,” he whispered into my ear as his arms circled around me to move me over.
“Get off me Az, I don’t remember inviting you to my bed tonight,” I grumble, not moving an inch.
He doesn’t move, “I’ve been sleeping here for three months y/n what do you mean?”
“I mean, I don’t want The Princess of Adriata’s sloppy seconds sleeping in my bed, now go to your own room,” I huff, slamming my head down on my pillow for emphasis.
Azriel scoffs, “This is about Cressida?” he asks in disbelief.
“Oh good for you, you’re on a first name basis with the oh so perfect princess,” I say donning the same mocking tone I used to Cassian.
“You do know that you’re also a Princess,” he smiled, pressing a kiss to my shoulder.
“So I’ve heard,” I roll my eyes, moving my shoulder away from him. “Now get out.”
“Y/n, I didn’t sleep with her,” Azriel says, pressing another kiss to my shoulder.
“Yeah right,” I scoff.
“She did try, but I told her I was seeing someone,” he continued kissing my arm.
“Oh really?” I sneer.
“Yes my love,” he smiled, pressing a kiss to my cheek. “You.”
“I thought you didn’t want to be with me, I thought you just wanted to fuck me,” I grumble trying not to enjoy his lips on my body.
“I never said that,” he states and I can feel his agitation.
“Well you didn’t not say it either, what am I supposed to think when I only see you at night?” I argue.
“Fine, I’ll admit it, I was scared.” he grumbled, moving to lean back on the pillows.
I sit up to face him and find him pressing the heels of his hands into his forehead like he has the largest migraine to ever be known to man.
“Scared of what?” I scoff in disbelief. He was Azriel, my spymaster and a shadowsinger. I had seen his fierceness on a battlefield countless times, seen him slaughter enemies of my court. What could possibly scare him?
“I was scared that one day you’d wake up and realize what I truly am, a lowborn nobody. You’re a princess for gods sakes y/n. The most beautiful woman in Prythian. You should be with a prince like Varian, not me. And even though I knew that I couldn’t stay away from you. You smell so good and your skin is so soft and the way you look at me sometimes? It would’ve taken all seven High Lords to keep me from your bed, especially when you invite me to it so willingly. I was scared that if we made our relationship something more than just pleasure that you would realize that, and that’s a blow I couldn’t handle.” Azriel confessed, finally ripping his hands off his forehead to stare at the ceiling.
“Azriel I-”
“It’s okay you don’t have to say anything,” he sighed, getting out of bed.
“Az,” I plead, but he keeps walking.
“Azriel stop!” I scream not the request of a lover, but the order of a princess. I see his wings twitch as he stops moving, still not turning to meet my eye.
“Azriel I love you,” I confess.
He whips around to meet my eyes, using his years of reading people to try and decipher whether or not I’m telling the truth. He finds no trace of a lie and before I know it he’s standing over the bed and bringing his lips to mine. His knees sink to the bed and I use his off balance to push him down into the pillows so I can straddle his lap.
“Do you mean it?” he asks as I lean back to look at him, his eyes blown out and on cloud nine.
“I’ve loved you for years Az, just ask my brother. When I thought you didn’t want to do anything but bed me my heart was broken, but I was willing to take whatever I could get.” I explained.
“You have all of me y/n, you always will,” he smiles, leaning up to kiss me. “But I’m still mighty jealous of all those lipstick prints, especially the ones I saw on Cassian.” he smirks against my skin.
“I think I can make it up to you,” I smile before reaching over to my bedside table to retrieve the lipstick from my discarded clutch. I keep our eyes locked as I put the cherry red color all over my lips and I swear I feel his cock twitch under me.
I lean down to leave a kiss on his cheek, then his forehead, his jaw, his chin and then I give the other side of his face the same treatment. I move my lips down either side of his neck earning a low groan from him. I smile and continue my assault all over his bare chest and shoulders.
“Fuck y/n,” he moans and I can tell he’s trying not to flip me over and pound me into the mattress.
I leave lipstick marks all over his abs and when I reach his boxers I pull the waistband down just enough to leave a kiss right above his aching cock.
“Fuck this I need to be inside you,” he grunts and I’m quickly being hauled up by my arms and tossed on my back. Within moments he slams his cock inside me.
“Oh fuck Azriel!” I scream, raking my nails down his back.
The room is filled with the sound of skin slapping as Azriel thrusts inside me at a brutal pace. Both seeking his own pleasure and to claim.
“Your turn Princess,” he smirks before sucking the skin of my neck into his mouth. My hands fly to his hair pulling him closer to me as his teeth sink into my neck.
“Azriel,” I breathe into his ear and he spurs his hips even faster. I feel him leave a light lick soothing the skin he bit into.
“Mine,” he growls before leaning back to admire his work. He lifts my legs and puts them over his shoulders to hit me even deeper making my eyes roll to the back of my head.
“Azriel!” I scream practically in subspace.
“That’s right Princess, let everyone know who owns this little pussy,” he grins with male pride.
“Yours Az all yours,” I breathe, unable to find my words.
“Good girl,” he says before reaching down to rub circles into my clit. The sudden sensation is enough to have me arching my back and cumming on his cock, a string of curses and his name falling off my lips.
Azriel continues thrusting into me seaking his own pleasure before spilling into me with a moan that practically shakes the doors. His head burrows into my neck and I run my hands through his hair pressing kisses to his face. I look up at him to see the lipstick marks all over him and I can’t help but laugh.
He rolls us to the side taking me with him so his cock is still inside me.
“Do you think Rhys is gonna kill me when he finds out?” Azriel asks jokingly but I can tell he’s genuinely wondering.
“Well he was pissed at Cassian but he got over it so I’d say we’re good,” I sigh tracing the lipstick marks left on his chest.
“Wait, you slept with Cassian?” he asks, stunned.
“Yeah like 105 years ago, you didn’t know?” I laugh.
“No I didn’t,” he says, throwing his arms around me and standing up making sure his cock doesn’t leave its spot nestled inside me.
“What are you doing?” I giggle playing with his hair as I feel my back hit the far wall of my room.
“Fucking you against Cassian’s bedroom wall,” he smirks kissing me deeply. “Gotta let him know we’re official now.”

Stars In Her Hair
Media - House Of The Dragon Character - Daemon Targaryen Couple - Daemon X Reader Reader - (OC) Lady Allianna Dayne Rating - Flirty Word Count - 1463
Finally, Daemon had returned to King's Landing from the war on the stepstones, he returned as king of the narrow Sea a title he quickly abandoned, but his brother King Viserys planned a week of celebrations for his return and the end of the war. Tourneys, hunts and other such pleasantries the first of which was tonight a large feast for the court. The hall filled with laughter and music, the tables lined with food and lords.
Daemon glanced around the hall attempting to find something interesting, part of him remembered how little he had missed such foolish politics, and he was tempted to finish his cup and head to his chamber for the night.
However, his eyes settled as they usually did on the body of the young lady, The Lady Allianna Dayne dressed as usual in deep purple and silver, with silver star jewellery and even a Star hairpin through her curls setting silver stars in her hair. The Dayne’s A fellow house of old Valyira with purple eyes much like many Targaryen’s. The last Daemon saw Allianna she was a young girl clutching her father's jacket as she followed him about court but that was many years ago.
Daemon’s eyes were drawn to her figure. He couldn’t help but admit to himself he found her attractive, she was beautiful. He slowly pushed himself up from the chair at the royal table, He started to make his way over to where she stood. He stood there a moment, staring at her before eventually speaking.
"You look rather bored standing here alone. Has not one person thought to request you dance this fine evening?"
She chuckled "No, they know better,"
"Is that so? Are you that intimidating?" He questioned, his tone playful. He moved to stand beside her, his gaze slowly travelling the length of her frame, admiring her appearance. Allianna was a beautiful woman with assets many in the seven kingdoms pay a fair price for on brothel girls, but she wore the impressive symbols of her house and its history
She glanced at him making sure to catch his eye so he knew she’d seen what he was up to, "It has been a good few years since you were here Prince Daemon. In that time a lady at court must learn to take care of herself,"
"Indeed it has been a long time. You've grown well since that child at court," His eyes continued admiring her looks, the curves of her body obvious beneath her dress, and then he raised his eyes to her hair. "I see you've adopted the family tradition and put a star in your hair. A fitting accessory for a lady of the house of the dawn star."
"I'm sure you felt compelled to adopt dragon scales on your sleeves and dragon buttons on your doublet at a similar age. Stars are my family, I wear them with pride. As a Lannister wears a lion, a stark a wolf fur, and you a dragon my prince."
"Quite right a Dayne girl would be nothing without her stars." He looked around the great hall. "I've seen many Westerosi houses here tonight, but I haven't spotted your father so far."
"he is not here.” She answered, “He is in Starfall, ruling as lord and comforting my mother, he .. he prays she will deliver him a son," her tone saddened,
He frowned as he spoke again. "I see, still no male heir then."
"No, only me."
"That’s quite a responsibility. I imagine your father is eager for a son to succeed him, an heir and not a daughter.”
"There is much he is eager for," she said dismissively before changing the subject, "but you have been busy... All these years, the war of the stepstones now won at last. King of the stepstones they've calling you," she chuckled at the title,
His lips curled into a smile, "King of the Stepstones, some do indeed call me that and yet I'm nothing more than a prince I assure you." He chuckled himself at the absurdity of it. "It's true that I've been busy but now I’m back here in the capital." He paused. "And I hope it doesn't take six years to see you at a feast again."
"I represent the whole of the south at court, you shall be seeing me, my prince,"
"You represent the South?" he asked, She was too young to be a delegate of her family he thought. "Your father's work I imagine? You're the only child and he doesn't wish to leave Dorne without a Dayne heir, not without a son." His words held some criticism of her father. He wondered if it truly a good idea to send her alone to the snake pit of a city like King's Landing? Anyone could take… advantage.
"You are correct," She nodded
"You must miss it. Your home? The warm sands of Dorne instead of the cobbled stones of the city." He moved a little closer, their distance closing. "Though a woman like you would be welcome in any room, be it a hall or a tent in the desert."
"I do miss it, starfall is unlike any castle in the seven kingdoms, I miss my tower, I miss the silver running like rivers through the walls, the moon-shaped cobbles and star glass windows. Somehow I feel every mile I am away from home. And weaker the further I am," There was a sadness behind her words as she spoke of home, "but... this is home, for now."
"The Dornish are proud people, the people of Starfall particularly so. It sounds like a lovely place." He felt a bit of sympathy for her, he felt the same about Dragon Stone which he had always called his home, "You'll return someday with a husband and a brood of children, and be happy there I’m sure."
she scoffed "Yes return home with a husband and children to be bossed about by the lord of Starfall, a brother whom even if is born today will be twenty years my junior." She explained "... When a son is born, Starfall won't be my home anymore, I'll simply be shipped off to whatever lord father picks out,"
His face showed a trace of sympathy for her as she spoke. "You'll be fine. The right Lord or Prince will come along for you, be assured of that." He looked at her for a moment before smirking. "Perhaps that’s why you keep every man at bay. Holding out for their Prince Charming."
"a prince?" She chuckled, "as far as I was aware... The realm has only the one prince" She maked eye contact,
He caught her gaze and held it, a slight smirk on his lips as she commented. He decided to play along with her game. "You’d be correct" he said, taking note of how she was standing, almost as if she were drawing herself towards him. "I’m the one and only" he added jokingly, before looking around to make sure no one was listening. "I’m curious..." he began, his tone lighter. "How did you pass your time in King’s Landing alone? I imagine you’ve been bombarded with men asking you to dance all night."
"I have been far too busy dealing with politics," she chuckled, "but if I have a moment I go to the library," she nodded, "Eman issare learning eglie valyiran” “I have been learning high valyiran" she said in a slight tender and careful high valyiran given she is still learning,
He was taken aback by her, It wasn’t something he expected. His eyebrows went up, his interest piqued. “You’ve issare learning Valyrio Eglie?” "You’ve been learning high Valyrian?”
She nodded with a gentle smile,
“Your accent is somewhat shaky but your pronunciation is decent enough.”
"hard to nail an accent when reading alone in the library"
He chuckled, "No good teacher then."
“Few known it at all let alone enough to teach.”
He looked upon her for a moment, his gaze tracing her body once again, before returning to her eyes. "I’m fluent in Valyrian. I could teach you."
"Could you? That would be very kind of you Prince Daemon,"
“Think nothing of it.” He took the opportunity to close the distance between them. He brought his body closer to hers and held her with a strong gaze. His voice came out in a low whisper. “Ziry would sagon ñuha pleasure naejot dohaeragon ao lēda aōha Valyrīha” “It would be my pleasure to help you with your Valyrian.”
She smiled biting her lip a little before she spoke, “Tomorrow, Eleven, in the library.” She nodded, “I’ll see you then Prince Daemon,”
“It’s a date” He nodded taking her hand in his and kissing her knuckles, “Ñuha dōna” “My Sweet”
She nodded hiding her blush as slipped her hand from his own and she walked away to leave the celebrations,

Happy birthday, Tails!
"Fevers Can't Ruin Birthdays"
based on this post by @niyana-the-ambiguous-mobian :)
AO3 version
Sonic didn’t have to be a genius to know that Tails had never had someone celebrate his birthday before they’d met. The kid had been the littlest outcast there ever was, for the dumbest of reasons. He’d been shunned and abused for what Sonic in all seriousness considered to be one of the coolest things about him— his extra tail that let him fly. On top of that, Tails was an absolute genius.
Too bad Sonic had to be the first one in the entire world to notice all this. Or maybe not so bad, because that meant he got to keep him. Which was quite possibly the best thing that had ever happened to him.
They’d been with each other for years now. Things were familiar between them. Familial terms flew from both their mouths in reference to each other all the time without hesitation. Tails had grown so much and now had a level of sass that rivaled Sonic’s. And now the kit was approaching his tenth birthday.
Sure, Sonic had made plenty of efforts in past years to celebrate his little brother. He’d thrown parties, bought out hardware shops in the hopes that whatever he brought would be useful to Tails, and even once made a horrendous attempt at making a birthday cake. (He hadn’t tried again since that first time, although Tails had at least appreciated the thought.)
But this year? This year was extra special somehow. Not only was Tails finally entering double-digits, it was going to be his first birthday after coming back from his extended time of solo adventuring. His “going it alone,” as he’d told Sonic he’d wanted to do back on Starfall Islands.
Sonic had missed him to no end during that time, although they’d still texted most days. Now, Tails had been back for a few weeks. He hadn’t said a word about his upcoming day, but there was no way Sonic would ever forget it.
He’d made plans, alright. Conspired with Knuckles and Amy, Vanilla and Cream, the Chaotix, even Silver and Blaze (though that had been a bit of a challenge). He’d convinced Tails to head out to one of his live-in labs that was closest to all of their friends, to make it easier for them all to come together. He’d spent an entire week shopping (with help from Amy), looking for anything that Tails would even potentially like. Mechanical stuff, computer stuff, bags of mints, lego sets the size of a dining table, video games, a collection of tiny metal airplanes he found at a thrift store, etc.
He had the entire day planned out (which was something that he usually never did). He’d hidden the giant assortment of gifts in a bunch of random secret places and connected them all with strings (although the arts and crafts store had been pretty ticked that he’d bought out their entire supply of yarn). Amy was going to make a giant, absolutely gorgeous cake. Knuckles was helping Cream decorate banners and blow up balloons. Vanilla and Vector were helping him organize everything. Sonic was going to take him to all their favorite places and they’d have races and go sightseeing and maybe dive off a cliff or two. It was going to be perfect. Sonic was absolutely determined to make sure that fox knew exactly how much he was loved.
… So if he woke up on the morning of the long-awaited day feeling a little more lethargic than usual, if he had some kind of tension in his head and felt a little congested and a little rough in the throat, well, he would keep that to himself.
Correction: he would try.
—
“Hey, Taaaaiiilllsss.” The voice was teasing and familiar, but surprisingly gentle for being an apparent wake-up call. Tails barely stirred from his dream, making the slightest of humming noises in acknowledgement.
A hand gently shook his shoulder. “Happy birthday…” the voice went on to sing, albeit quietly.
Still mostly asleep, Tails barely rolled over and automatically finished with a sleepy, “To yoouuu.”
The voice— Sonic, no doubt— snickered. “Nuh uh, lil dude. It’s your birthday!”
Tails smiled as he finally started waking up for real. “To meee,” he corrected, opening his eyes halfway as he began pushing himself to sit up.
“There ya go!” Sonic laughed, reaching out to ruffle Tails’s already-messy bangs. “Welcome to double digits! Just wait till you…”
Tails paused in his climbing down from bed as his brother trailed off in his sentence, instead ending with a sneeze.
“Bless you.” Tails hopped off the bed and grinned.
“Eh. Thanks.” Sonic shook his head and smiled back. “Sorry. What was I saying?”
“Just wait till…” Tails prompted.
“Aw, yeah— just wait till ya see everything I’ve got planned!” Sonic dragged him in for a tight hug, then a noogie, and Tails squealed with fake protest.
Sonic let him go, grabbed the end of the yarn lying on the floor near the bed, and shoved it in Tails’s hand. “Just follow the string!”
Tails laughed, but obliged. “Wait, what? What is this, birthday edition of the Wizard of Oz?”
Sonic shrugged. “I woulda built a yellow brick road, but I didn’t think you’d appreciate me messing up your floors like that. Didn’t think the public would be much of a fan, either.” He turned his face away and sneezed again.
“Whaddaya mean the public? Bless you.” Tails frowned a little when Sonic didn’t immediately turn back towards him, instead reaching up to rub his nose, then his eyes. “You good?”
At the concerned inquiry, Sonic quickly snapped back towards him. “Yeah, I’m good! Now come on, your day awaits!”
Tails kept an eye on him even as he smiled and started walking alongside the string, which he now noticed was stretched out across the floor and tucked in random places out of sight. “Are you getting sick?” he asked Sonic, who scoffed.
“‘Course not. You know colds are too slow to catch up with me.” Sonic gave him an exaggerated wink. Tails rolled his eyes.
“Lame joke, but you sound all stuffy.”
Sonic rolled his eyes right back and put his hands on his hips. “Maybe your ears need cleaning out again.”
“Just like your immune system needs cleaning out?”
“Stop sassing me, or there won’t be any cake.”
“Fine.”
Tails knew Sonic was joking about the cake bit. He still wasn’t sure if Sonic was actually sick or not, but if he was, there was no way he was going to just admit it and go to bed. He was one of the most stubborn people Tails knew, and he hated to be vulnerable in front of other people.
So, deciding to hope that Sonic wasn’t lying and maybe was just sneezing excessively for no reason that morning, he went along with the plans Sonic had created, which admittedly were all pretty fantastic.
“Yooo, is this the newest game from AGES?” he squeaked as he flew up into a tree after the string and found the tenth gift tucked in the branches.
“You bet!” Sonic called from the ground, although his voice sounded extra raspy when he raised it. “Pre-ordered it ‘n everything! I dunno if you watched the trailers for it, but it looks sick. Hoped you’d like it!”
Tails hovered back to the ground, picking up the previous gifts alongside the video game case that he’d left at the base of the tree. Sonic turned his head and coughed a couple times.
“Speaking of ‘sick,’” Tails mumbled, eyeing his brother worriedly.
Sonic waved him off. “I’m fine, I said. Besides, there’s still so much left to do!”
Tails sighed. He was beginning to think that his initial intuition was right, but was Sonic going to care? Nope.
They headed into town next, and Tails finally understood what Sonic had meant earlier about the public. If they hadn’t been world-renowned, Sonic probably would’ve gotten in trouble with the local government for leaving string and random computer parts in cardboard boxes all over the parks and roofs.
The sun was high in the sky at this point. They met with a few of their friends in the streets, too many to be a coincidence, but Tails didn’t mind one bit. While all the effort was definitely heartwarming, it would’ve been easier to enjoy it all if he weren’t so worried about Sonic, who was looking more tired by the hour. Every now and then he’d catch him rubbing his head when he thought no one was looking, as if trying to ward off a headache, and every couple minutes Tails heard him sniffling.
They had lunch with the Chaotix, and Tails of course chose chilidogs. It may have initially been Sonic’s favorite, but his love for them had rubbed off on Tails over the years. The taste of them always brought warm, pleasant memories, and almost for the sake of those memories alone, they were one of his favorite meals.
And he would’ve had an easy time enjoying them now, but it was hard when Sonic was barely picking at his, in the seat next to him. He’d taken a small bite or two, but was now doing nothing more than staring at them with slightly glazed eyes.
Trying not to make a scene, Tails nudged him a little. “Not hungry?”
Sonic blinked and looked back at him, his eyes clearing. “Um. I dunno.” He picked up his chilidog, immediately set it down again, then twisted aside to cough again, as quietly as he could.
Tails caught Vector eyeing the hedgehog from across the table and winced. “You good there, Sonic?” their older friend questioned.
Sonic looked back at the crocodile, almost uncomprehending for a moment. Tails looked between them. Sonic waved a hand. “Not you, too. I’m fine,” he sighed, even though his voice cracked when he spoke.
Espio looked towards them, away from his whispered argument with Charmy that no, Tails was not obligated to share his three new lego sets with him. “You don’t sound well,” he pointed out.
Sonic glanced back at him, squirming under the sudden scrutiny of everyone else at the table. “Hey, quit staring,” he complained, then smiled way too big and nudged Tails. “This is Tails’s day. Give him all the attention!”
Tails gave him a look, deciding that it might be better to be upfront about this than to spare Sonic’s dignity. “I’m not the one who needs medical attention,” he said with a tiny shrug, smiling apologetically when his brother shot him a pleading look.
Vector sat up straight. “Wait, are you sick?”
“No,” Sonic protested, his ears flattening slightly.
Espio leaned down and started fumbling through one of their bags under the table. “I think we still have flu medicine leftover from when three of us had it a few weeks ago. You can take it if you need it.”
“Noooo, thanks.” His big brother looked like he wanted to disappear, although at this point Tails couldn’t tell if the redness on his face was from embarrassment or an oncoming fever. He looked meaningfully back at Espio and nodded, and the chameleon quietly slipped him the bottle under the table.
They managed to go the rest of the meal without bringing up the sickly elephant in the room, but Tails couldn’t brush off his worry. More and more he wanted so badly to just take his brother home, tuck him into bed, and take care of him until he was healthy again, but with the way Sonic was, such a thing would be immensely difficult.
“Ready for a hike with the gang?” Sonic asked him, with about as much energy as he could summon at the moment.
“A hike?” Tails echoed, brows rising. “Why don’t we just fly in the Tornado? Where are we hiking?”
Sonic laughed, then immediately started coughing again. It was sounding rougher every time it happened, and Tails automatically reached to put a hand on his brother’s back. “M’fine,” Sonic reassured him, trying and failing to clear his throat. “There’s this one spot out in the mountains nearby with an awesome view at the top. The hike is an hour or so, and yeah I know we could just fly, but I thought it would be nice to catch some scenery in the woods along the way. Knux and Amy are coming along, is that okay?”
“That’s— it’s fine that they’re coming.” Tails paused, trying to sort through his immediate concerns. “Um… I just think…” With a quick breath, he went on, “Sonic, this has all been awesome and the hike does sound exciting, but… I really think you need to go home and rest.”
Sonic sighed, glaring at the ground for a moment, before dragging his gaze up to meet Tails’s with a frustratingly relaxed gleam. “How many times do I gotta say it today, I’m fine! Nothing can keep me down for long. I’ve been waiting to do all this with you for months; please just let me have this?”
His brother wasn’t as good with the puppy dog eyes as Tails was himself, but it somehow worked— for now. Tails groaned, conflicted still but not knowing how to convince the stubborn hedgehog that walking around all day and hiking entire mountains and spending all energy for the sake of birthday fun was not going to let him feel better. Especially if he refused to take any medicine.
“Okay, but—”
“Awesome!” Sonic didn’t let him finish. “I told the others to meet us at the parking lot in twenty minutes or so— whaddaya say we beat them to it?” He swallowed with a grimace as he finished speaking, then sniffled.
Tails stared at him regretfully. “Okay.”
They made it to the parking lot in under five minutes. Tails decided not to say anything about how much easier than usual it was to keep up with the speedy hedgehog, who didn’t seem to be purposefully moving as slowly as he was. As they reached the sparsely populated lot, Sonic stumbled over his feet and all but fell against someone’s car, struggling to catch his breath as he started coughing again, even harder than before.
“Sonic?” His worry ramping up a decent amount, Tails hurriedly dropped down beside him. “You alright?”
Sonic gave him a tired grin, even as his chest heaved for air. “Just catching my breath,” he wheezed.
Tails stiffened, looking at his brother with blank eyes as a haunting memory surfaced in his mind.
“Just catching my breath,” Sonic tried to assure him, even though he was near entirely covered in flickering, red and black cyber energy, had just been coughing, was clearly in pain. Tails stared at his own transparent, glitching hands, realizing he had no corporeal form and could do nothing to help his brother feel better.
And then he’d spent the next few days watching Sonic get sicker and sicker, watching him limp tiredly around instead of run with his trademark smile, watching him hold his arm and his hip and his head until he could barely walk. Tails had come back to his real, solid form, only to find Sonic paralyzed, unresponsive, all but dead, because he’d cared more for their lives and their comfort than for his own health.
This wasn’t the same, he reminded himself in the present; at least, it wasn’t as dire. This was just a bug. Just the flu. And it was just a birthday.
But Sonic was still rejecting his health in favor of making sure that someone he loved was having a good time.
Tails wasn’t sure how to articulate his feelings on that to him right now. So he chose to step closer and throw his arms around Sonic instead, holding him tightly.
Sonic paused for a moment, evidently taken aback, then silently hugged him back. Pressed up against him, Tails could hear and feel the raggedness in the hedgehog’s breathing, and feel the unnatural heat radiating off of him.
“Whoa, are we interrupting something?” a deeper voice called, and immediately Sonic pulled back as if nothing had happened.
“Brother stuff, Knux,” he told the echidna, as Tails fought his internal annoyance at missing his chance of actually convincing Sonic to go home and go to bed. “You wouldn’t get it.”
Knuckles eyed the hedgehog ruefully. “I think I would, somehow.”
Beside him, Amy laughed. “You guys ready for this?”
“The view won’t compare to Angel Island. But I suppose it’ll be nice in its own way.”
“The scenery on the way is supposed to be really cool, too,” Tails put in, remembering what Sonic had said earlier.
“It is!” Sonic agreed, then pointed to a sign by the woods nearby. “That’s the start of the trail. Let’s do this thing!” Without waiting for a response, he half-ran, half-stumbled off towards the aforementioned sign.
Tails just sighed, shook his head, and ambled after him. As he did, Amy headed closer to walk beside him.
“Is Sonic… sick? Or something?” she whispered, looking concerned after their friend ahead of them. “He seems off, somehow. And he sounds all raspy.”
“…Yeah,” Tails mumbled guiltily. “He’s been coming down with something all day. I’ve tried to talk him into going home and resting, but he won’t listen.”
“Sounds about right.” Amy groaned. “I’ll help you keep an eye on him while we walk. If he still won’t go home to sleep by the time we’re done the hike, I’ll just drag him there myself.”
Tails couldn’t help a laugh at the mental image. “Thanks, Amy.”
“Of course!” The pink hedgehog beamed at him. “Now then— how’s your birthday been going, mister ten-years-old already?”
“It’s been good otherwise!” He grinned. “For the first half of the day he just dragged me around town following a string to all sorts of gifts. I had to drop them all off at the lab, or else we wouldn’t have been able to do the hike.”
“Ooh! What’d you get so far?”
“Mm, a lot of computer parts, three new lego sets, a couple new video games, a skateboard, a weighted blanket, a box of mint tea—”
“Wow,” Amy cut in with a giggle. “I helped him do some of the shopping, but he really went all out, it sounds like.” Tails nodded with a soft smile. “I’ll never get over how much he just adores you. How much you both love each other,” she added, watching the fox kit’s eyes shift to check on the hedgehog ahead of them.
Sonic had paused beside a tree, leaning heavily against it, panting with eyes glazed over again. “Sonic?” Tails called, hurrying ahead to catch up with him.
“What?” Sonic jolted upright again, eyes brightening but not clearing as they passed over Tails. “I’m fiiine,” he drawled, and staggered back onto the trail. Knuckles grabbed him by the arm to keep him from tripping down the hill on the other side of the path.
Tails glanced back to exchange a look with Amy, then sighed and tried to stick closer to his brother. Knuckles glanced back and gestured questioningly at Sonic behind the hedgehog’s back at Tails, who mimed coughing into his fist in response. Knuckles rolled his eyes, then silently exhaled and nodded.
All of them were unfortunately familiar with the way their friend would put up a front for them. As Tails had earlier recalled, it hadn’t been too long since they’d seen this kind of thing with him.
It fooled none of them.
The farther they hiked, the more it became abundantly clear that Sonic was getting worse, and the more Tails and the others worried. The hedgehog couldn’t walk in a straight line to save his life, instead stumbling in a sort of zig zag pattern back and forth across the trail, giggling here and there. He’d gone from being pretty quiet and tired out in the first half to jabbering nonstop in the second half, except it was almost pure nonsense coming out of his mouth.
“Looook, Tails,” he snickered, pointing shakily at a flicky in a tree nearby. “Toldja dragons’r real.”
“Sonic, that’s a flicky. And we’re literally friends with dragons. Remember Trip?”
“Ah, yyyyeahh!” Sonic laughed way harder than he should’ve, breaking into yet another coughing fit. “Y’know, I could probably breathe fire too, with how on fire my lungs feel right now.”
He staggered on ahead and proceeded to trip over a tree root.
Tails shot an anxious glance at Amy, then leaned closer and whispered to her, “Would you mind heading back and bringing the Tornado out here? I’d do it myself but I don’t want to leave him. Once you get it here, I’ll bring him home.” He bit his lip. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay!” Amy whispered back. “You got it. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Amy wasn’t quite as skilled as he was with flying the Tornado, but he’d given her enough lessons that he felt confident at least trusting her to fly it out a short distance. It would be worth it, to be able to take Sonic back home with ease and make him get the care he so desperately needed, whether he wanted it or not.
“Where’d Amy gooo?” Sonic whined a few minutes after she’d hurried off.
“She’s just getting something for me,” Tails told him, patting his shoulder reassuringly, although he jumped at how hot to the touch his brother was.
“Izzit a surprise for youuu?” The hedgehog smiled deliriously. “Tha’s cool. Happy birthdaaayy!”
“Thank you, Sonic.”
“Yerrr welcome! Hey… did you dye your fur or somethin’? Ya look way more orange than usual.” He peered at Knuckles and his eyes blew open wide. “Whoaaa, you too!”
Tails facepalmed. “Dear Chaos, he’s even worse than I thought…”
Knuckles looked back and forth between them, having clearly never dealt with a person as sick as Sonic currently was. For Tails, it had been a while, but he’d definitely experienced things like this before. He’d known Sonic for most of his life, had seen him at his highs and his lows. He picked up his pace to match Sonic’s, and Knuckles dropped behind slightly.
“Sonic, you really need to rest,” he told him firmly.
Sonic giggled. “Yes, I’m a pest! Egghead agrees with that!”
Tails facepalmed. “That’s not even close to what I said.”
Abruptly, Sonic jumped and pointed excitedly at a patch of sunlight ahead in their path. Probably the end of the path, Tails figured, but instead of saying that, his brother exclaimed, “Look! A giant duckling!”
“…What?”
“Izzo cute.” Sonic all but dragged himself up to the patch of sunshine and fell over into the grass. “Can I keep ittt?”
“Uh.”
“Please? Hey Knucklehead, can I keep th’duckling?”
“There’s no duckling,” Knuckles said bluntly.
Looking genuinely disappointed, Sonic shoved himself back to his feet and staggered up to the boulder with the view, the end of the trail indeed. “Taaaiiilllss, canna buy a duckling?”
“Sonic—”
“Whoaaaa, lookit th’vieeww!”
He’d been right, the view here was spectacular. There was no shield from the wind up here; they’d passed above all the trees. They could see hawks soaring below them, and in the distance, they could see the town they’d been in earlier as nothing more than a silent, tiny setup of buildings with microscopic moving specks that they knew were people and cars. For a moment, Tails paused as he surveyed the view. It was fascinating to see something like this and not be flying somehow.
Sonic was grinning in absolute delirium as he whirled sideways to see them, eyes half-closed. “See, wasn’t it worth it…” He frowned suddenly, stumbled, then started swaying. “Whoa.”
“Sonic?!” Fueled by panic and adrenaline, Tails realized what was happening, and lunged to grab the hedgehog by the wrist right before he keeled over— nearly off the edge of the cliff. Panting in suppressed fear, he pulled Sonic back up onto the boulder and sank to his knees, all but cradling his brother as he lay there, barely conscious.
“No more excuses. You’re burning up,” he said, hugging him close to calm his racing heart. “I sent Amy to bring the Tornado. I’m taking you home as soon as she gets here.”
Sonic blinked blearily up at him, then groaned and mumbled, “…Okay.”
Tails blew out a breath. “Good.”
“Jus’ one thing…”
“What’s that?”
“Can I still get a duckling.”
“…I’ll buy you one when it’s your birthday. Now stop talking and rest.”
Sonic grinned wearily, closing his eyes and resting his head down against Tails’s chest fluff. “Okay.”
—
Amy arrived shortly afterwards, and Tails carried his feverish brother up to the Tornado as it circled around them. He set him down in the seat behind the cockpit, then he and Amy switched out as Amy leapt back down to the boulder.
“We’ll head back on our own,” Knuckles called, waving to them. “Go on ahead.”
Tails waved back in acknowledgment, then set the course for the quick flight back to the workshop, barely a minute’s trip.
He thought he heard Sonic mumbling something behind him, but it was difficult to hear him over the wind. He hit a button to bring the overhead windshield over the seats (a feature he usually reserved for rainy days), and said, “What was that?”
“I’m sorry.” Sonic was slumped sideways in his seat, staring sullenly out the window.
Tails frowned as he returned his gaze to the path ahead. “Why are you sorry? You didn’t—”
“I wanted to give you a perfect birthday. After everything.” It was probably due to the sickness, but Sonic sounded downright miserable. “And I ruined it.”
Tails sighed. “You didn’t ruin anything. No one can control when they get sick. It was still a great birthday, Sonic.” He twisted around again and smiled, making sure Sonic saw him before he turned back towards the front. “Thank you.”
Sonic hummed a little in response, but said nothing.
—
They set down at the workshop, and Tails opted to leave the Tornado in the runway for a while so he could take Sonic straight inside and set to doing what he’d wanted to do all day: just taking care of him.
He settled him comfortably on the couch, brought him a couple blankets, made some soup, and brought him some orange juice and a couple slices of bread. After he’d eaten, Tails gave him some of the medicine he’d gotten from Espio earlier. Sonic still seemed kind of depressed, but he was looking a little better, at least, now that he was finally getting to rest.
As he nibbled on the bread, Tails sat down with him and handed him the orange juice glass. “You know,” he said slowly, beginning to smile, “I think I prefer this gift over the others.”
Sonic blinked at him as he accepted the glass carefully and took a tentative sip. “What… which… I haven’t gotten you anything since we got back.”
“Just…” Tails shook his head and smiled, then reached out and rubbed his head between his ears, like Sonic always did to him. “Just this. Being together. You letting me take care of you. I always like that.” Sonic stared back at him in surprise as he spoke. “You have no clue how much this means to me. How much I’ve wanted to do this, basically all day.”
The hedgehog sighed, but smiled back. “Sorry it took all this for us to properly hang out.” He shifted. “Although, as nice as this is… I’m not sure if you really wanna be this close. I might get you sick.”
In response, Tails scooted closer and hugged him tight. “I’ll take my chances.”
Sonic was still tense. “It’s on you if you do get sick,” he warned, although his tone was hardly serious and didn’t match with his affectionate grin.
“I know. Just shush it and let me hug you.”
“…Alright. You win this round, bud.”

CUPCAKE | azriel
summary; azriel loves starfall, but you? not so much.
word count; 5465
notes; I have no idea how this got so long, I honestly intended for it to be like 2000 words! but, happy starfall day number two, I hope you all love this one too!
'cupcake' moodboard
The guilt was eating you alive, fingers gripping so tightly around the box in your hands you had to remind yourself to unclench before you squished the sweet treats inside. As you stared up at the house, you realised that maybe this wasn’t so bad.
What was bad, had been the crushed expression on Azriel’s face earlier that morning. That exact expression was what had brought you here, wearing a mix of mesh and sparkles and gauze that wasn’t your typical style, but you’d donned it just for the man whose heart you were sure you’d broken. It was cold, and the rain had only just stopped but there was still dampness hanging in the air. Exactly what you hated.
In fact, you hated everything about Starfall.
But, if there was one thing you hated more, it had been seeing that expression on Azriel’s face. The look like you’d kicked his puppy, like you’d broken up with him, like you’d told him you hated his family. The look that had crushed your heart as he tried to hide it. You’d - misguidedly - assumed Azriel didn’t particularly care for the celebration, all of Velaris had been building in excitement everywhere you looked for weeks, and he hadn't even mentioned it.
Until, this morning, that was.
The sun was starting to heat on your skin, rays a soft caress that woke you up into the morning, and your face tipped back into it, eyes closed. One hand was sitting encased in Azriel’s, his calloused thumb smoothing over your knuckles, the faint press of his kisses still lingering there with every stroke, as his focus sat on the puzzles in the newspaper before him. A basket of cooling croissants sat between you both, chocolate and hazelnut smells drifting around you, your usual shared order tempting you in as you waited for your coffees.
Crockery clinked, a latté being placed down in front of you, vanilla and caramel swirled through it in a way that made your mouth water as your head snapped back down. A happy squeak left you as your eyes closed in on the shortbread sitting on the edge of the plate. Azriel chuckled at your enthusiasm, the sound washing over you in steady waves, far warmer than any sun had ever been.
You’d been so distracted stirring the foam into your latté that you missed the lingering waitress, or Azriel folding his newspaper back up to chat with her.
“So, are you excited about the Starfall party tonight?”
A snort left your lips. You hated Starfall, and you didn’t understand why everybody loved it quite so much. Solstice was so much better. Warm fires, staying cosy inside, cooking and sharing gifts and gathering around with those you loved. Why was Starfall all the rage, when all you did was get cold, probably wet, and definitely drunk?
Your eyes flicked up to Azriel, watching as he sliced open a croissant, a little shocked to find a wide and rare smile on his lips as he nodded. “Always! We, uh, well, we didn’t make plans yet, but I kind of assumed…” Azriel glanced up, cataloguing the shock you were sure was displayed on your face, his brows furrowing a little. “Well, Rhys throws a big party every year, it’s great, I just assumed we’d go to that.”
“Why?” The word tumbled from your lips before you could stop it, the edges of his wide smile flattening, lips flickering at the edges. He smoothed his face back down, nodding politely at the waitress who was dismissing herself quietly. That bright smile that had seemed to light up the whole street dimmed down into his usual impersonal frown, brows pulled tautly. “I mean, that sounds good! I’ve not been to a Starfall party in a long time, so, that works!”
“You- you don’t like Starfall?” His voice was a little lower than before, a tone change that would go undetected if you didn’t know him so well, know the hurt he was masking poorly. He so rarely ever let himself get openly excited about things, and your heart stuttered painfully in your chest as you looked at him. “Me either, really. It’s kinda… loud…”
He had obviously struggled to find something bad at all to say, his love of the holiday obvious, looking down at his food and slathering butter and jam onto it to avoid meeting your eye. “Az, wait-”
“So, what do you want to do tonight? We could stay in together, it’ll probably be pretty busy out and we’ll struggle to get a reservation, but I’ll cook?”
There it was, the stone walls he had worn so effectively for the first few weeks of your relationship when you’d thought he’d felt nothing for you at all, and he’d simply been hiding how deep his feelings were. Reaching across the table, you took one of his hands in both of your own, forcing him to look up as you rubbed lightly at the marred flesh in a way he loved so much. “You clearly love Starfall, Az. You should go to the party tonight, I don’t want you to miss it because of me.”
His fingers flexed a little around yours. “But, we won’t be together.”
“I know, honey, but it’s okay. I don’t particularly care for Starfall, I don’t mind being alone. You do care for it, and you should be with people who love it too.”
He paused, a second longer, before giving a curt nod of his head, the conversation effectively ending. He didn’t say much more, but he lifted his hand, bringing yours with it, to press a series of loving kisses to your knuckles. He wanted you to know he wasn’t mad, or upset, and somehow, that only made it worse.
After kissing you goodbye at breakfast, he’d shot into the skies, frown still sitting on his face, and you hadn't seen him since.
Your hands trembled, and you scowled at your own ridiculousness. You were practically alight with nerves, your heart racing what felt like a thousand beats a minute as you forced legs that felt numb into action. You shook in your pointed heels as made your way up the long and cobbled path of the garden. It wasn’t like one of the messy parties you’d attended when you were young, there was nobody sprawled out across the porch passed out and drunk, nobody vomiting in the bushes or screaming from the open windows as they dangled out. Somehow, the elegance was even more terrifying.
It was obviously a huge party, you could tell even from the outside that the place was packed indoors, scents and voices of hundreds of different people mingling in the air. You were sure you were going to hyperventilate, nothing but the image of Azriel’s dismayed look flashing across your face, the only encouragement you needed to climb the steps, and come to a stop before the door.
You didn’t bother knocking, knowing that nobody would answer, you could already hear the soft melodies of a classical band from inside pouring out, with loud chatter and laughter spilling over the fences from the backyard. With a deep exhale that was a poor substitute for letting go of your fears, you grabbed onto the doorknob, swinging open the front door of the High Lord’s home.
Stepping over the threshold, dry warmth encased you, washing away the damp cool from the garden as you left it behind, and a surprised sigh left you as the goosebumps on your exposed skin settled down. Rows and rows of hooks all piled high with coats were on your left, and you took a moment to breathe, smiling at the occasional stranger who passed you by as you set the box down gently, slipping your cat from your arms and hanging it up when you found a space. Smoothing out the wrinkles in the fabric, one hand skating up to play with the pearls around your neck anxiously as the other retrieved the box.
Azriel had bought you this necklace, with matching earrings that swung gently in your ears, surrounded by artful curls from a hairstyle that had taken over an hour to do. Almost as long as it had taken you to do your makeup for the event, just another one of the things you hated about Starfall. Or, thought you hated. When you’d been younger, you’d hated it all, wiping away your makeup and starting again, washing away in the rain as your hair went flat, but this was nothing like that.
Instead, you’d felt nothing but anticipation for the night ahead, excitement at seeing Azriel’s face, whether he’d look at you the way he did when you dressed up for special dates, whether he’d play with your hair and kiss behind your ear just to smell your perfume. Only a few steps in and you came across the first room; inside were a circle of people all sitting around, small children bobbing on knees and toddlers playing with puzzles and games on the carpet. You recognised the High Lady’s sister, a toddler with wild auburn curls and bright brown eyes balanced on her knee, giggling enthusiastically as she blew raspberries onto his cheek, her red-headed mate cuddled up beside her, new-born snoozing against his chest.
A few steps further, and the whole downstairs of the house seemed to open up. Sliding doors between the impressive kitchen and the show-stopping dining room all opened up to make one enormous space, the size of a ballroom, and your throat felt like it was closing up at the mass of people inside. This wasn’t even the main part of the event, behind them all was the back garden, the true heart of the party.
Fire pits and open bars and strings of softly glowing faelights hung from the house and the fences and the trees. It was beautiful, stunning, and the sight of it was enough to steal your breath entirely.
Rows and rows of tables lined with food, enough to feed what seemed like an entire village. Savoury and spicy and sweet, all piled high, and you glanced down at the box in your hands, feeling foolish for bringing it at all. Of course, there would already be an abundance of food here, this party was the one people spoke about all year, the gossip only cooling down in time for chatter about the next one to start up. Rhysand’s Starfall parties were the biggest social event of the year, scoring an invite to one was like being invited to a Royal wedding.
It occurred to you with startling ferocity that this would be the first time you’d meet Azriel’s family. You’d met Mor once, two hundred years ago, both drunk at Rita’s as you queued up for new drinks. She’d been served almost a full half an hour before you had been, of course, but in the free moments it took her to stand and wait, she’d been kind enough to make conversation. You had no idea how, because if you’d been that drunk, you were sure you’d be unconscious.
Your first call, before doubtless embarrassing yourself in front of the Night Court regency, was to get rid of the stupid cupcakes in your hands, before anybody saw them. There was so much food, you were sure that you could just place them down on one of the tables, that they’d blend in, and you’d never have to think of them again. If you could only get to one of the tables through the crowds-
A shadow curled around your elbow, so light you would miss it if you weren’t so used to them, like a lover’s caress between waking and sleep, like featherlight kisses placed along your skin. It curled eagerly around your elbow, wrapping like a dark ribbon around your forearm and down to your fingers.
You couldn't help but smile.
Before the grin had even finished pulling on your lips, your eyes closed in on Azriel like a magnet, the tips of his wings pulled in tight but visible over the crowds, weaving through them all and shouldering past until he was coming to a stop before you. His eyes were wide, cheeks flushed and nose-tip red from the cold outside, hair wind-tussled.
“You- you came?” He took a half-step closer, hands coming up to cup over your own on the box, stopping the nervous trembling you’d been doing as his touch calmed you. His eyes scanned over you, head to toe, twice, and that adoring look you’d hoped for was like a blessing. “Gods, you look so beautiful. What are you doing here?”
Before you could even respond, he dipped down, a soft peck to your painted lips, refusing to smudge the hard work you’d put into them, a longer kiss placed to the edge of your mouth, your cheek, that wide smile you loved so much coming back.
You treasured it, you loved making him smile like that, and you never wanted to be the cause of it disappearing again.
“You care about Starfall, and I care about you.” Freeing one hand from under his, you lifted it, placing it on his face and letting him lean into your touch as you ran a thumb over his cheekbone. “I’m sorry I wasn’t more enthusiastic at the time, I was caught off-guard, I had no idea you loved it so much. I swear, I didn’t mean to say it like that, I want you to be-”
A soft noise tumbled from his lips, almost a whimper, and one of his hands matched yours on your face as he tugged you into him. He didn’t care for the lipstick now, kissing your rambling quiet with so much love and passion that your knees went weak, gasping against his lips as he sucked your lower one lightly. He nipped, he pulled, and he licked his way into your mouth until you could taste the spiked punch on his tongue, intoxicating you just as much as him.
His hands were gentle, as they cupped your cheeks, sure not to smudge anymore of your makeup, even though you were sure your lipstick was now going to be a mess. When he finally pulled back, leaving you gasping for breath and staring at him in awe, he wiped a thumb under your lip, clearing up the designs he had ruined so hotly. Red was smeared across his own lips, and he gave a heart-hearted attempt to lick it away, smirking and your giggling as you leaned into him.
“I can’t believe you’re here.”
“I had to make it up to you.”
Your heart jumped a little at the look he offered. “I didn’t mind, my love. I was merely a little… sad, I just wanted to share it with woman I love.”
This time, you were utterly speechless. You’d been taking the emotional element of your relationship slowly with Azriel, having learned the hard way early on how flighty he could be. You’d never spoken that phrase to one another before, and even though you’d known it, even though it had been obvious in every little act he’d ever done and very touch or kiss, hearing him say it was an entirely new rush.
He smiled, obviously sensing your loss for words, that look becoming soft and tender, leaning in until your foreheads were pressing together. “I love you, cupcake.”
An emotionally wet laugh bubbled from your lips as he smirked, squeezing at your hand still holding the box, and your eyes fluttered shut. Your cheeks were just as red as his now, you were sure, and before you could seal the moment with a kiss, someone was clearing their throat beside you.
Magic crackled around you, so strong and thick you felt like it was overwhelming, even as it only explored, never harmed. A second later, the pull back left you cold, stiff in Azriel’s hold as his wings flared out to cover you a little more. His back was straightened, head raising from where it had bowed to meet yours, and his shoulders slumped.
Peering around your love, you found the High Lord, smirking at you both as he rose the sparkling crystal wine glass in his hand to take a sip.
“Rhys…”
“Quite the dash you took there, Az. You almost had me worried.” The High Lord’s eyes now met yours, smirk only widening. Stepping to the side, Azriel seemed resigned that this was happening. You’d know logically that you’d meet them all someday, that the further into your relationship you got with Azriel, the more likely it was that they would one day become your family too, but that didn’t make it any less nerve-rattling. Especially when you felt so unprepared for it all.
Azriel tucked in his wings, and the noise and clammer of the room seemed to all come rushing back in one overwhelming crescendo.
“Well, are you going to introduce me to your lovely friend?” Rhysand offered you a wink, Azriel had told you he was a flirt despite everything, and your cheeks flushed even deeper again.
“Girlfriend.” He corrected with a rough growl that only made the Lord snicker, offering your name to follow, before turning to you with a sigh. “My love, this is my wonderfully ill-timed brother, Rhysand.”
Switching his glass to the other, Rhysand extended his hand to you, and as soon as your fingers had slipped over his own, he was raising your hand to his lips. Pressing a kiss to your fingers softly, Azriel only rolled his eyes, and Rhysand’s cheeky expression grew. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, my dear. It’s about time Az found somebody to make him this happy. You should have seen his face when he realised you were here, it was like-”
“Alright, that's enough of that.” Azriel reached out, smacking at the back of Rhysand’s hand, pulling your arm back protectively and spreading one wing out behind you, curling you closer to him. There was no real threat, you all knew this, but it didn’t stop Rhysand from laughing as Azriel got possessive once again.
You were nervous, terribly so, as all attention moved to you, and so without a single thought, you thrust the box in your hands outwards towards him. “I brought you cupcakes… not that you needed them, of course, but…” You waved an idle hand, cringing internally and hoping the grimace wasn’t displayed clearly across your face. Was it possible you’d be so bad at this Azriel might actually break up with you?
“You brought us cupcakes?” Rhysand looked genuinely surprised, touched perhaps, and he discarded his wine glass down to the tray of a waiter passing by, before looking between you and the box.
“Yes, my Lord.”
“Oh,” His hand waved in the air, head shaking enough that a strand of well-styled hair fell across his forehead. “Please, anyone who can make Az light up the way he did deserves to call me Rhys, never mind Rhysand.”
From the stagnant pause, followed by warm chuckles from both the High Lord and your boyfriend, you were sure they could sense your apprehension and shock. Azriel’s lips brushed a warm kiss to your temple, reassuring even as you were sure your heart might explode it was beating so harshly, his hand settling on your lower back, and you only hoped you weren’t sweating through your dress.
“Alright, maybe we’ll work up to Rhys, Rhysand will do fine for now.” A tight nod was all you could summon in reply. Azriel’s hand was rubbing up and down your spine supportively, the only thing grounding you at this moment, and it stuttered in hit’s movements only temporarily, before he was groaning, head rolling back in exasperation.
“Oh, Rhys, really?”
“What?” Your sight flickered between the two, from Az’s scowl to Rhysand’s smirk, your nerves firing up once again, when they’d only just settled.
Ducking his head, the tip of his nose dragged over your cheek, lips positioning by your ear to speak in a murmur even over the crowds, “Just know that I’m sorry for what is about to-”
“I heard there were cupcakes!”
The booming voice you recognised as the general’s was so deep and loud it rattled some of the glasses around you, coming into sight not even a second later. Clinging to his arm was Nesta, someone you had met before too, only a brief conversation in a bookstore a few months ago, but you weren’t sure whether she recognised you. Her eyes flashed with something, lips curling a little at the edges in greeting, and Cassian’s arm sat heavily around her waist to keep her upright on shockingly tall heels. Upon seeing the box in your hands, she seemed to perk up even more.
Following quickly behind her was the High Lady, the heir to the court balanced on her hip as he poked and pulled at the braid her hair had been woven into, Morrigan following closely behind. Trains of silk and glittering fabric encompassed them all, and before even a sliver of insecurity could battle its way in, Azriel pressed another comforting kiss to your head, your temple, your cheek.
A high-pitched squeal left the youngest of the group, now all inspecting you curiously, little hands clapping together as his mother’s braid was no longer of interest, staring excitedly at the box. He was squirming, aiming for the floor, and Feyre placed the toddler down before he could launch himself from her arms, staring up now at the bundle you held.
“I want one! I want one!”
“Well, I don’t think anybody will be very inclined to give treats to little boys who don’t ask nicely.” Rhysand’s chastisement was taken into account, the boy’s mouth forming a frown you just knew he learnt from Az, as he glanced between his father and the cupcakes. He grabbed at his father’s much larger hand, mumbling an apology, before turning back to you. Instead of his attention on the sugary treats, though, his focus was on you.
“Please, miss…”
“(Y/n).” Rhysand supplied.
“Please, miss (y/n), can I have a cupcake?” Crouching down to Nyx’s level, Azriel’s touch left you, and the boy was all but bouncing on his feet as you came down to his level. His eyes were wide, the same shade of eyes as his father but freckles like his mother, and it felt so much easier down here at his level. An easy smile pulled on your lips, box balanced on your knees as you opened the box. “Can I please have the purple one?”
“Of course, you can. That one is just for you, anyway.”
“Really?” His excitement came out as another squeal, reaching in to scoop it up with both hands and managing to already smear icing across his palm, which he promptly licked off in one clean scoop. He retreated back towards his father with his prize, seeking help with peeling the wrapper, and you were forced to stand up and join the adults once again.
As soon as you were stood, though, two scarred fingers were dipping into the box and retrieving the cupcake decorated with blue icing and sprinkles, a gasp falling from your lips. “Hey! They weren’t for you!”
Az only smirked, one thick brow raising. “If it’s not for me, why’s it in my blue, hm?”
“You don’t own the colour blue.” Your eyes narrowed playfully, and this was what you were used to. Banter, laughter, teasing, easy and fun. His wings curled even more around you, sheltering you from the world in the way you loved so much, until you were curled closer to his side, the warmth of his body a cosy heat.
“If I don’t own it, why does it look so damn good on me, huh?”
“You’re insufferable.”
“You mean adorable.” He muttered, and Feyre’s hand smoothing along your forearm lightly enough to make you jump as you were reminded you weren’t alone.
“No, she definitely means insufferable.” Azriel only scoffed, but she didn’t even glance at him. “I’m Feyre, it’s lovely to meet you. Whatever you put in that cupcake, you’re gonna’ have to tell me, he hates my baking.” Glancing down, her gaze was cast fondly on her son, who had purple icing smeared across one cheek, refusing to let his dad wipe it away, devouring the cupcake that looked gigantic in his little hands.
“You should try one and see.” Offering the box to her, her gaze sparkled as she plucked a white one out from inside. She peeled the edge, taking an enthusiastic bite and licking away icing from her lip, eyes widening as she chewed.
“You made these?” She covered her mouth to hide the crumbs, but it was all so informal that you felt yourself starting to relax more and more, the kind look in her eyes soothing your frazzled nerves. “They’re so good.”
“Then, move, Fey, and let the rest of us try one.” Cassian nudged her aside with his elbow, Rhysand reaching out behind his wife to smack him across the arm, but you were sure with Cassian’s build it was like a fly landing on his shoulder. He grinned, cheeky and fearless and cunning, eyes flicking up to Azriel. “I’m Cassian, this drunk lady is Nesta.”
“I’m tipsy at most.” She argued, hiccuping toward the end of her sentence, and Cassian smiled down at her. Plucking out a red cupcake for himself after handing a silver one to Nesta, who looked like she had never seen anything more appealing in her life as she stared. Swooping in behind them was the last member of the group.
“I’m Mor. We’ve met before, I don’t know where, but I recognise your face.”
“At the bookstore!” Nesta’s voice was a little too high for average speaking volume, and yet Cassian’s soft chuckle was somehow louder. “You met her at the bookstore.”
“No, that’s how you met her, Nes. Mor can barely even read, she wouldn't be-” Mor pinched him, hard, and Cassian yelped through his laughter as he flinched away. You longed to be a part of it, fear melting into longing as you watched them all interact.
“I’ll figure out where I know you from.” She bit down on her lips, gaze raking over you. “Shame that Az met you first, this dress is stunning, I think you’ve got everyone’s attention tonight.” With a wink, she plucked up the black cupcake just as Rhysand moved in for it, laughing in victory as he stared at the baby-pink cupcake that was left.
He also took the box, the item disappearing quickly from his hold with barely a drop of his power, and you weren’t sure now what to do with your hands. Azriel made that decision for you, lacing your fingers together, and you gripped his hand with both of yours.
“So, you’re Az’s new girlfriend, huh? I’ve been bugging him for ages to meet you.” Cassian scrunched up the wrapper of his cupcake.
“You knew?” Rhys’ eyes were wide, a speck of glitter on the corner of his mouth from the icing making him seem far less terrifying than he had five minutes ago, and you bit back your grin on the inside of your cheek.
“It’s a little weak that you didn’t know, since you’re the daemati, Rhysand.” Cassian only tutted, Nesta encouraging his bad behaviour by laughing through her mouthful. You liked her, you thought perhaps the two of you could be good friends, one day. “You didn’t notice that stupid, dumb-in-love look on his face? I mean, look at him.”
You were grinning, amused by the dynamic shared between the group, and all attention moved to Azriel as Cassian called him out. You glanced up at him too, smile melting away as you found his gaze already on you. So full of love and affection, lips pulled up at the sides just enough for you to see, your heart jumping in one hard beat, just for him. He shifted, dipping down to press a soft, lingering peck to your lips. The tip of his nose dragged over your cheek as he retracted, dipping away to turn his head to hide in your hair, refusing none of the claims Cassian made, but instead, confirming them.
So much open affection, even in front of his family, and you remembered just how long it took for him to grow comfortable to this effect. Your gaze moved back to flicker over the other members of the group as he nuzzled into your hair. Feyre was tucked into Rhysand’s side, Nyx hugging her legs and begging for ‘up!’, as Nesta and Cassian stared at one another, mumbling quietly as Cassian bargained for a bite of her cupcake. Mor only smiled at you both, hands elapsed under her chin.
“Right, c’mon. We all want to get to know her, but let’s give them a minute of peace.” Mor waved her hands at them all, like corralling cattle as various complaints rose up that drew a laugh from your lips.
“Oh, cut it out, you lot can be a terrifying bunch at first.” Feyre agreed, tugging Rhys along as he protested, and Nesta let out a holler of what seemed to be approval. Soon, they were gone, disappearing back into the crowds that closed up around you, and you were left only with Azriel. He dipped down, peppering kisses along your jaw as your head tipped back, a kiss to your neck, just below your ear, before rubbing his nose into the spot that you’d sprayed your perfume on.
Predictable.
“I’m so happy you’re here.”
“So am I.” You meant the words, not a hint of a lie in them, and despite all your anxiety and previous thoughts, you couldn't deny that it felt so good to be immersed in such a family. He gave one final kiss to your shoulder, before he was standing back to his full height, blinking at the sudden burst of light as he came back up from being buried in your neck.
“Wanna’ share?” Azriel held up his other hand, the cupcake still held tightly within it, and he peeled it open before tearing it in half. Holding up a piece of it for you, he took a bite out of his own, the two of you sharing in harmonious quiet as you took a few minutes to soak in all the grandeur. It was a magnificent party, you understood now what everyone had been talking about.
As you took the final bite, before you could lick the buttercream from your lip, Azriel dipped down, kissing it away sweetly, and turning you to face him properly.
“You wanna’ head home? We could still pick up some food on the way, and-”
“Are you kidding? We’re staying, the stars didn’t even start to fall yet!” His mouth closed, opening once again, and closing. He only nodded, lips pressed tightly together to hide the extent of his grin. Looping your arms around his neck, his own circled your waist, hauling you up more firmly into his chest. “I’m sorry I wasn’t more supportive before, but I’m here now, and I’m having a great time. I want to get to know your family more, and I want to support everything that you do.”
“They’re going to want to get to know you more. Prepare for intensive grilling. Mor will ask you about our sex life.”
“Should I tell her about the time we-” His lips closed over your own, tongue sneaking into your mouth to pull a moan from you, effectively scattering any thoughts you’d had about teasing him, exposing him, or both. You hated that it worked so well. Your lips meshed together, the sickly-sweet icing and the spicy tastes of liquor, the other tastes that were so uniquely him, and you shuddered a little at the suggestive shadow that skittered along your inner thigh lightly, having snuck up under your dress.
“Tell them nothing, or we’ll never live it down.”
“Bold of you to assume I’ll be able to talk at all when you’re working me up like this.” You mumbled, his lips leaving wet marks along your jaw, hand slipping down to cup your ass as it was sheltered from view by his wing. “Tease.”
He laughed, your noses bumping together as his forehead came back to rest on your own, and his hand slipped back up to safer territory, squeezing your hip as his other one did.
“Az?”
“Yeah, cupcake?”
“You know I love you too, right?” He smiled then, only nodding his head, eyes slipping closed as you swayed together gently to the music.
“I know. Just like I love you.”

Relax, my flame
Eris Vanserra x (Azriel's sister) Reader
For @starfallweek [hosted by: @azsazz and @writingsbychlo]
Starfall Week 2024 Masterlist
Day 3: Characters A & B realise they won't make it to Starfall. They make the most of what they have to celebrate.
Summary: Reader and Eris decide to tell the Inner Circle that they are together, and mates, on Starfall, but the fear of her friends and family not being accepting of their relationship freaks Reader out.
Cw: Cuddles, Mentions of the previous night's activities *wink*
You rolled over, landing on Eris, covered by sheets, a warm fire crackling in the edge, a pleasure-filled soreness in your body as you looked at your mate, your sleeping mate who looked absolutely content, your wings like covers on his body. Eris looked so peaceful it made your heart ache, you moved to stroke the side of his face, eyes downcast in sadness.
Eris' eyes fluttered open, and with a groan he smirked, pulling you close to him to pull you over him, kissing over your shoulder, "Of course you would flood me with all your concerns and wake me up."
"Well, I'm sorry..." You chuckled softly, nestling into his warm body, settling on him, breathing him in. "I'm just worried..." You had asked him to attend Starfall with you, to tell your family then that you were mates, and together.
Eris smiled lazily, stroking your hair, "I don't mind waking up beside you, you know."
You smiled back, kissing his cheek, "Well, thank you, I suppose." You rested your head on his shoulder, trying to fight your sleep as he stroked the base of your back and wings with his hand warming further with every stroke. "Stop that, we should talk."
"Why talk when we can just cuddle and make love till your family tells you to stay away from me?" Eris smiled against your neck, kissing over the column of your neck.
You frowned slightly, "I want to tell them, I do... I want to be with you freely."
"You helped kill Beron, saved people of Velaris." You offer, "Maybe they would accept you."
"Or maybe your brother would take me to his dungeon and torture me till I die." Eris replies instead, earning a slap on his chest from you.
"You're High Lord now." You point out, a reason how you were in bed with him, he had more easily covered your tracks than he could've while he was an heir, "I'm sure you could match him before too."
Eris smiled at you lovingly, "I would never hurt your brother, you know." He kissed your head, "Because he is your brother, I couldn't care for him less. I just hope for your sake he doesn't call a blood duel against me."
You frowned, "It won't get that far... I won't let it." You nodded to yourself, pressing your face in his chest.
Eris kissed over your head, burying his nose in your hair, scenting you, tugging at your bond, shoving all his love for you down your bond so hard it nearly made you cry.
You and Eris had been together for years, meeting behind everyone's back, you were his secret, and he was yours. "I love you, Er..." You breathed down in his chest as his arms tightened around you, his emotions affecting the fire in the room and making it crackle more.
"They have to see that I love you." You stressed, "That you aren't as bad as they think you are."
Eris kissed the crown of her head, "All I care, is that you know who I am."
"But is that enough?" You frown slightly, "Why is this so hard for us? Being mates is supposed to be fun and happy... Not wondering whether your family would accept or not."
"That's why I don't worry." Eris winked at you playfully, "And you worry about this enough for the both of us." He cuddled you closer, kissing over every part of you he could reach in comfort.
"I really care about them, Er..." You mumble, playing with his hair, "They're my only family."
"Then stay here in Autumn forever, we can have our own family, my Court will be yours." Eris offered, "I want you to."
You sighed, dropping down on his chest to snuggle into his warmth, "I would like that..."
Eris smiled but frown instantly as you added, "After we tell them."
Eris sighed, "Fine, if they aren't accepting of us, then we run away together, my Court laws allow me to keep you, I will use them if I have to. Deal?" He smiled, lazily stroking your back again.
"Deal." You nodded back, melted in his hold, a small heart tattoo forming over your collarbone, same as his.
Eris flipped you over, smirking, "Till then..." You chuckled as he began kissing down your neck. "I think we should just relax and make the most of us being in bed together, don't you?"
You hummed softly with a smile, lacing your hands in his hair as he kissed down your bare chest, marking you as his for anyone to scent.

Congratulations on 500 darling!!!!!!!! Can I please request 30 with azriel? Thank youuuuuuu 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Confessions at Starfall
Azriel x Reader one shot
Summary: It's the night of Starfall, and you're hopelessly in love with the Shadowsinger. When Azriel keeps flirting with Elain, you're pushed to your final limits.
HELLO AND WELCOME TO DAY 1 OF 5 FOR 500!
Thank you @cityofidek for requesting 30 - Unrequited love/pushing loved one away.
Warnings: None.
Words: 3,048
--------
It was the night of Starfall, and you were utterly miserable.
Sitting at the dining table with your family, the rest of the inner circle exchanged jokes and light-hearted conversations as plates of steaming roasts, vegetables and pies were passed around. While it was usually your favourite holiday – the night ahead promising dancing and celebration, you were feeling far from festive.
It had everything to do with the male you loved, who sat across from you now, dotting over Elain Archeron. His eyes rarely left her, and you would know, because yours rarely left him. You noted the way he sat, his body tilted slightly in her direction, his wings folded back to make provide her more space to move. To the untrained eye, it wouldn't look like much – but for Azriel this spoke volumes.
That was the kind of detail you had learned to read over the past year. It had been twelve excruciating months since you had realised your own feelings for the Shadowsinger. Gone was the comfortable friendship you two shared – instead it was quickly replaced with blushing, timidness and uncontrollable awkwardness, all thanks to you. And while you once held out hope that Azriel might notice, or even return your feelings, overtime your friendship had drifted – pushing him further into the arms of the middle Archeron sister.
Elain made you seethe with jealousy. It wasn’t her fault, she was nice really, all be it a bit simple. But she had a way about her, like a doe-eyed fawn their first steps. It made you uncontrollably angry the way people would line up to help her, especially the males. Not to mention her undeniable beauty. You knew she and Azriel made a very handsome couple.
So you sat here tonight, marking every bit of attention the Spymaster gave Elain, longing for him to look at you the way he did her. Jealousy didn't even begin to cover it.
“Y/N?”
You blinked, not realising Azriel was speaking to you even though you had stared off straight in his direction. You coughed, straightening in you seat. “Sorry, pardon?” Your heart beat at the thought he might have started a conversation with you.
“Can you pass the potatoes?”
Your heart dropped, and you tried to hide the disappointment on your face. Of course he wasn't interested in talking to you, he hadn't in weeks. Without replying, you passed over the dish, reaching straight for the white potatoes instead of the orange kind. Azriel didn't like how sweet they were, and you knew that. It was the kind of detail you remembered about someone when you’re hopelessly in love.
“Ooh, can I please have the sweet potatoes?” Elain chirped. “They’re my favourite.” Of course the sweetest female in all of Prythian liked yams the most. You had to suppress the urge to roll your eyes. You passed the dish over silently, and watched Azriel load up his plate with those too. It took everything you had to stop the scowl that twitched at your eyes.
You pushed your fork and knife to the centre of your plate, suddenly having lost your appetite.
————
The luminescent glow of the stars shooting above had been going for over an hour, and the party was in full swing. You breathed in, letting the magnificent sight lighten your heart the way they did the night sky.
Gathered on a large marble terrace of Rhys and Feyre’s river home, almost a hundred guests had come in fine gowns and suits to celebrate the event.
Wearing a dress of midnight blue that sparkled with night, you laughed lightheartedly as Cassian and Nesta joked with you, champagne in hand. The musicians at the base of the terrace reclaimed their seats, raising their instruments and beginning a new set of elegant melody.
“I hope you don’t mind Y/N, but I must show off my mates dancing,” he winked at you before offering his hand to Nesta. She smiled, placing a delicate hand atop of his, nodding to you before being lead to the dance floor.
Couples now twirled and stepped in unison, the sight almost as magical as the sky above. You felt a large presence slide beside you, and your heart fluttered as shadows caught the corner of your eye.
“Are you enjoying your night?” Azriel had finally come to spend some time with you.
“Of course,” you lied, smiling softly as you gulped the rest of your champaign, earning a slight raise of Azriel’s brow. “And yourself?”
Azriel nodded. “It’s as beautiful as always.”
“Yes, it is.” You couldn't help but stare straight into his hazel eyes, your heart lurching as your words hung with double meaning. Ask me to dance, you begged in your head. We dance every year on Starfall, c’mon, just ask me. If Azriel was paying any attention, he would have read your pleading gaze. But he wasn’t, of course, because his eyes fell beyond you, at the pretty Archeron who wore a gown of delicate blush.
You looked down, suddenly overwhelmed with insecurity as you smoothed the ripples in your dress. Of course he didn't like you – you looked like a witch of death compared to the femininity that blossomed from Elain.
“You look quite beautiful tonight.”
Your heart leaped. Your anger from earlier quickly vanished as you breathed in to thank Azriel, already blushing. But as you looked up, your heart immediately sank as you realised Azriel wasn't complimenting you at all, but rather Elain, who had made her way over.
It felt much like being punched in the gut.
Your mouth was dry as you silently watched Azriel offer her an arm, her petite hand slipping through as he guided her to the dance floor.
That felt much like being kicked in the gut while you were down.
You couldn't help the steady flow of tears that now stained your cheeks, or the broken crumple that formed on your face. Unable to withstand any more blows, you fled the party.
————
Slumped against the frame of a large window, your body shook with cries so hard they fell silent. You didn't care if it was the most special night of the year, you had never felt more abandoned, underserving and unloved.
You were crying too hard to hear the footsteps that trudged up to the lookout room you were hiding in, and you didn't hear the faint knock at the door. It wasn't until Cassian placed a gentle hand on your shoulder that you noticed his presence, his face soft with concern as he crouched next to you.
You blinked back at him, your vision completely blurred by your tears. You were broken and there was no hiding it.
“I love him, Cas,” you sobbed, your voice break halfway through as a cry shook through your body again.
“Oh, Y/N,” Cassian said softly, his voice full of understanding as he immediately embraced you. You flung yourself to him, wrapping your arms around his solid waist as he rocked and stroked your hair. You weren't surprised that Cassian knew, anyone could have noticed months of hopeless pining and one-sided puppy love.
You continued to cry, your voice muffle by the embrace. “What’s wrong with me?”
“Nothing Y/N! There’s not a thing wrong with you.”
“Then why doesn't he love me?”
“Because he’s a damn fool.”
You sniffed against his chest, trying to regain yourself. “But he loves her.”
Cassian sighed, the strokes on your hair pausing for just a moment. “I’m not sure that’s true.”
“Of course he does. She’s perfect.” Jealousy was not a good colour on you, but you were unsuccessful at hiding the bite in your words.
Cassian drew back, levelling his eyes to yours. “I know it hurts right now doll, but I promise, any male that doesn't see you for the beautiful, intelligent and fiery bombshell you are, is an outright imbecile. Even if it is my own brother.”
You chuckled at that, shaking your head as you gently wiped the makeup your were sure had stained under your eyes. “Thank you Cass,” you whispered, reaching for his hands tightly. He stood now, leaning down to plant a kiss on your forehead.
“Will you come back to the party with me?”
You forced a fake smile, but shook your head. “I happiest up here. Thank you though Cass, I mean it.”
Cassian nodded, throwing a tight smile of sympathy before ducking out of the room.
You paced to the other side of the viewing room to the window facing the terrace below where celebrations continued. Dresses of all colours fanned against the marble of the terrace, the music flowing up to the height of the room. And the stars, Gods they were beautiful.
You saw Cassian rejoin Nesta, his arms snaking around her waist as they admired the view. Next to them were your High Lord and Lady, and beside them, a dress of pale blush. Your heart stung with envy at the site of Elain, and you narrowed your eyes as you scanned the crowd for Azriel.
“Y/N?”
You jumped, whirling on the spot to find Azriel sheepishly standing in the doorway.
You cleared your throat, quickly wiping under your eyes again. He had hurt you, broken you without even knowing it. You straightened your spine – the least you could do was have your pride.
“Are you ok? Cassian said you left the party.”
You nodded tightly, not trusting yourself to speak.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” The words flew out of your mouth too quickly.
Azriel frowned, stepping through the door towards you. You stiffened, drawing one step back. “Go back to the party Azriel,” you said tightly.
“Have you been crying?”
You scowled. How dare he note that detail when he was the one who caused it. “Don’t pretend to care,” you spat. Gone was the ache in your heart from moments ago. Seeing Azriel here now, it was quickly replaced with fiery hurt.
“What?” Azriels brow was now contort with confusion as he reached for you. You stepped back again, your arms folding over your chest.
“Why are you angry with me?”
“How can you ask that?”
“Is it because we’ve been distant lately?” So he did have some clue after all. You didn't answer, instead breaking from the intensity of his stare, your eyes focusing outside as glowing spirits that shot past the other side of the window.
“Listen, I know I haven't been around much, or maybe it’s that we haven't spent time together lately. But things have been difficult between us for a while now Y/N. I can't help but feel you’re pushing me away.”
A scoff escaped you before you could stop it. “I’m pushing you away?!”
“Yes!” He exclaimed, his hands outstretched. “For months now. You don't open up to me like you used to, every time I look at you, you look away, and you never suggest spending anytime together.”
You blinked at him, biting your lip as you tried to process what he had said. You hadn’t realised that in an attempt to burry your feelings for Azriel, you had actually pushed him away.
“Tell me, what have I done?” Azriel’s voice was pleading as he stepped closer.
“You haven't done anything,” your voice was barely a whisper, and you were unable to meet his eyes. You had stepped away so he could explore his feelings for Elain, that was your truth. But when was the last time he made an effort for you? “But you can't pretend like you’ve been trying either, Azriel.”
He sighed then, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’re right, I’m sorry ok? I’ll make more of an effort from here on.”
You nodded, tears welling in your eyes again as you blinked quickly, casting your gaze sideways yet again. You couldn't tell him – it would ruin everything.
For once, Azriel caught on to how upset you were. “You’re still angry with me?”
“Gods, Az! I wish I was angry!”
The male blinked at you before frustration overtook. “Well perhaps you could stop talking in riddles, and actually tell me what’s wrong!” he gritted.
You let out a quick breath, shaking your hands as you blinked upwards, trying your best to stop the tears that welled. “I can’t,” you whispered. It would kill you to say it, and it would kill everything you two had.
Azriel’s gaze softened when he saw how tortured you were. Uncrossing his arms, he walked over, cupping the side of your face. “You can tell me anything, Y/N. Just tell me, what’s going on?”
His hazel eyes scanned your face, begging you to open up. But there was so much at stake here, and even if you confessed, you knew his heart lay with Elain.
You shook your head, moving out of his hold. “If you can’t see it for yourself Azriel, I don't know what to tell you.”
Azriel frowned. “You’re speaking in riddles again.”
You threw your hands up in defeat. “Perhaps I am,” you sighed, suddenly drained of any energy you had left. “Listen, I’m exhausted. Please Az, just enjoy the rest of your night, ok?”
“I’ll walk you to your room.”
“No,” you said too quickly. Guilt struck you at the twinge of hurt on Azriel’s face. “No, thank you. I’ll be fine.” Your voice was tight, and you quickly turned your heel, leaving Azriel still and silent as he watched you leave.
These feelings – these stupid, foolish, unrequited feelings. They hurt you and everyone involved, and you hated yourself for it. It was obvious Azriel didn’t return your affection, so why did you have to drag him down and cause a scene? You needed to do better, needed to push your love for him down, burry it in the depths of your heart so it would no longer get in his way.
————
You were in your room for barely an hour before there was a forceful knock on your door. You jumped, pulling down the length of your silk night slip as you spoke out loud. “Who is it?”
You door flew open then, Azriel’s large frame filling the entrance as he stepped inside, his expression wild, with another emotion you couldn't quite place. His wings were outstretched, and you could tell he had winnowed here hurriedly as his chest heaved with quick breaths.
Shocked, your eyes darted over him in panic. “Azriel, what –?”
Azriel stalked towards you, closing the distance as he towered over you.
“You love me?”
You gawked, your eyes moving back and forth as you tried to connect the dots. “Who–?”
“You love me?”
Cassian. You gritted your teeth and your fists clenched. How could he share something so private?
“No! I mean, yes, I mean, I have feelings for–”
“You, love, me…” he repeated, slower this time. It was no longer a question.
Your body burned in shame – you needed air. Pushing the double doors to your private balcony open, you grasped the railing as you tried to breath deep. Azriel was right on your tail.
“Az, I’m sorry. I’ll get over you. I promise. These feelings, they’re— they’re only temporary, I swear. I—I’ll get over you–”
Azriel bought a single scarred finger to your lips, hushing you instantly. You swallowed, panic in your eyes as they darted between his hazel ones, trying to read his reaction. As per usual, Azriel’s face was unreadable, the only movement was the gold that swirled within them.
“How long have you loved me?” he asked, his voice cold as ice. You felt as if you were tied to a chair, under his interrogation.
“Twelve months,” you whispered against his finger, your cheeks stinging in shame.
Azriel raised his brows. “So for a whole year, you have loved me, without so much as a thought to share that information?”
Your frowned in confusion. “I had no plans on telling you, Azriel. I didn't want to get in your way. You and Elain–”
“What of Elain and I?”
You levelled a look at him now. “C’mon Az, its clear you have affections for her.”
“You have no idea how I feel.” There was a bite to his words, something you weren't used to from the Shadowsinger. “I am a friend to Elain, because her transition as fae has been difficult. I enjoy her company, that’s true. But I am there to support her as my High Lady’s sister, and a member of our family. If I am someone she can trust, someone she can open up to, I will be there to support her.”
You sighed. “I understand that Az, but–”
The finger returned to your lips, cutting you off. “That does not mean –” Azriel drawled, his voice low, almost dangerous. “– that I have affections for her.” He was dancing with your emotions, using them against you to teach you a lesson.
You blinked back at him, your heart fluttering with realisation before denial quickly took over. “You love her,” you whispered, more to yourself, refusing to believe the dynamics you had built in your head were an embellishment of your own idiocy.
“I do not.”
“You do.”
“I do not.” Azriel’s voice was a growl now.
He moved in closer, and your heart began to thunder. The finger against your lip fell to cup your chin, forcing you to meet his gaze. Azriel’s eyes swirled with dominance, his expression almost predatory as shadows danced between you. He leaned in close, his fresh scent filling your nose as his lips were now mere inches from your own.
“I have affections for someone else,” he said huskily. “One might even say I love her, for many years now.”
It took all that you had not to gawk. Instead, you kept your eyes on his. “Don’t mock,” you replied, your voice a half gasp as you tried to control your breathing.
Azriel’s mouth pulled into a smirk. “I’m not mocking.”
You flicked your gaze to his lips, then back up to his eyes, your expression bewildered and completely uncool.
“Azriel–” was all you got out before he closed his lips over yours, his arms snaking around your waist as he dipped you back, kissing you as the stars continued to fall around you.
