After hearing the news about the cafe, you plopped yourself down on the grass outside while thinking about where else you guys could go and who could have tried to do this to the cafe. Kenma had sat beside you, not saying much as he went on his own phone.

There was a good 15 minutes of silence between the two of you before he sighed, looking at you.

"Where do you want to try working at then?"

You stayed quiet. While you would normally return to your dorm during the hours the cafe would be closed, you were unsure about inviting him over. Not only was it currently a mess but you also didn't want to make Hajime uncomfortable by bringing your partner in randomly.

"I'm not sure... maybe the library?"

"It's on the other side of campus."

"...it is." you pouted, looking away from your phone.

"My place isn't far." his voice was a little hesitant as he started. When he noticed you glancing at him, he continued. "I have a roommate, though, and he has some of our other friends over. But I'm sure they wouldn't mind you coming."

"We could get immediate feedback that way!" You jumped up, shocking Kenma. "Any additions we make to it we can ask them how they'd react to it being on an actual website and also ask whether or not they like the business we made!"

"Okay." He nodded his head, standing up. "Let's go then."

You nodded your head, standing up and following after him. Kenma pulled out his phone, sending out a text to who you assume was his roommate before pocketing his phone once again.

Stardew Valley Bachelor/ettes and their sexuality headcanons

Yeah yeah I know, they are all canonically bisexual or something like that, but I have some headcanons to go further into it as to just say “he/she is bi”. It’s my silly little blog and I get to choose the content ok lol anyway:

Bachelors:

Sam: raging bisexual and proud. Doesn’t care what others think of it, maybe his mum and dad though, speaking of that with them feels still kinda weird as he doesn’t feel comfortable talking about such things with them. But overall he never gave his sexuality a second thought and goes with whoever he has caught feelings for.

Sebastian: bisexual but is more into women. Feels uncomfortable speaking about it. He didn’t know he liked men until he met the farmer (if they are male). He felt ashamed of his feelings for the same sex, but the farmer helped him come out of his shell. Robin and Maru don’t care and support him no matter what, Demetrius however…but it doesn’t matter who it is he likes, this guy will always pick a fight with Sebby so yeah.

Harvey: again, bisexual but prefers women. Has kissed a man before in his college days doing some dumb drinking game (he liked it more than he likes to admit) but never done more. He’s knows that homosexuality is natural in all sorts of species and therefore doesn’t think it’s weird. However, he feels a bit awkward having to confront himself about his own bisexuality, but he generally feels shy about his personal matters, especially when it might get people talking. When he catches feelings for the male farmer, he fears that the farmer will think poorly of his attraction and therefore has a harder time accepting his feelings for them than for the female farmer.

Shane: I said it before, I’ll say it again: man fucked in his gridball days, mostly women, again, but he also had a thing with a guy. He doesn’t like to speak about his bisexuality and pretends he’s straight because it’s less of a hassle to say if he’s asked. He doesn’t want the surprised looks of people because he doesn’t seem like a guy who’d also date men. Despite that, he likes women a tad more (boob guy, also likes eating 🐱), but he can’t deny his attraction towards male athletic builds. He won’t ever admit it though, of course.

Elliott: bisexual and proud. Has no preference whatsoever. He mostly writes about heterosexual relationships and loves the female anatomy as it’s different to his, therefore more intriguing to him in an artistic aspect, but he won’t pick favourites. All bodies have their perks and he’s open to give love to every body that’s attached to a person he loves. His first relationship was with a man, but he always knew that his attraction is not limited to one. He’s a romantic artist, and therefore finds beauty in all different shapes and sizes.

Alex: bisexual but says he’s straight because he is convinced he is. The hours he spent looking at shredded man abs in his youth definitely weren’t first indicators, he just wanted to look like this, not look AT this. He also definitely didn’t have some codependent homoerotic friendship with a fellow sportsman in high school, no no couldn’t be him. He prefers women, or it’s his denial, who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️ needless to say, he assumes he’s straight till he meets the (male) farmer and is immediately struck by love. It puts him in a spiral, but eventually he accepts his feelings and is happy he is finally true to himself.

Bachelorettes:

Haley: bisexual but prefers men. She has had a thing for the shy girl in high school, but decided to bully her instead as it seemed easier for her than come clean to herself about her feelings for another woman, a woman that doesn’t play in her league popularity-wise specifically. The relationships she had with men were mostly superficial and loveless, but she took it as a necessary evil. That stops when she meets the farmer. If the farmer is female, she will finally open up about being bisexual, happy she isn’t in denial anymore and true to herself after years of self hatred regarding that part of herself. If the farmer is male, she will be more than happy to know that she isn’t broken and that her past lovers were just sacks of shit that didn’t care about her lol.

Emily: bisexual, thought she’s a lesbian. She has a thing for her friend Sandy, let’s be real here. Also dated Shane in college for at least a couple of weeks until they realised they don’t have a thing for each other and are better off being friends. Because of that, she thought she’s homosexual as she never had any romantic feelings for a man. That changes when she meets the farmer though. If male, she will discover her bisexuality and be excited to explore new sides of herself. If female, she will stay thinking she’s a lesbian and be happy with her cute wife.

Leah: bisexual and knows it. Leah is gay or straight depending on what gender the player is, but I think she’s just open to whatever, but would like to say she’s a lesbian tbh, but we know she’s not :( she’s an artsy person like Elliott, so it didn’t take her long to realise she likes people of the male and female sex. Definitely spent a lot of her teenhood drawing naked women in her sketchbook like all of us lmfao. Oh yeah, she prefers women in my books, your honour. At least feminine-presenting people.

Penny: bisexual, masks as straight but prefers women in secret. She thinks having homosexual thoughts is forbidden for a good girl like her to have, but she can’t stop pining for the female farmer once they enter her life. She keeps dropping hints about wishing to live on a farm like theirs, dreams about kissing their lips and whatnot but feeling guilty about it. With the male farmer, it’s different. She doesn’t feel as much shame, but it takes her longer to develop feelings for them.

Maru: bisexual but honestly? Probably demisexual, if not some other sort of asexual. She has no time for romance and doesn’t really think about it much. When she catches feelings for the farmer, it surprises her that she’s even capable of feeling those things for any person really. Her having homo-or heterosexual feelings for someone isn’t a concern to her at all, just the fact she lets herself get distracted with things like that is. Eventually she learns to go easy on herself and accept that she’s human with desires like everyone else.

Abigail: bisexual, has no preference but can’t deny she likes the idea of being visibly queer by having a partner of the same sex or someone androgynous-looking. Doesn’t have a lot of dating experience really, also not big on having crushes. She has a thing for Sebastian though, but its not that deep. The farmer changes everything. She will see them as a cool friend around her age at first, but will grow attached to them over the course of their friendship, especially with their shared love of adventure and falling out of place in this small town.

A message regarding Denver and his gender identity below the cut!

Since I've already received a few messages I'm unhappy about, I thought I'd mention this LOL This isn't meant to be hostile in any way, but it's frustrating to have strangers on the internet try and tell me how I should portray my own characters, and even worse to be a person who is genderfluid and bisexual to have people tell me I'm being phobic for the way I portray my characters

So first, right off! Denver is canonically a bi cisman. Sorry if this upsets you LMAO but that is what he's always been, even before I made him into a character for stardew, he is my OC and that is his identity. I haven't decided if I will keep the femme version, I probably will as an optional thing, but Denver is not genderfluid or a woman. The femme version was more intended to be like any other genderbent character mod, it does not reflect the actual character.

Now with that being said, I don't care what you do in your own game or your own imagination, but leave me out of it LOL I will not make changes to my character based on someone else's personal tastes. If you don't like the NPC, don't install them, and if you want something super specific, learn how to make NPCs or commission someone to do it for you.

I put a lot of care into my NPCs, and it is a lot of time and work. I love my characters, and I hope that other people like them, too! But I will not make changes to them. I have nothing against people wanting and liking the femme version of my character, which is why I have maintained it, and will likely continue to do so, assuming that I don't have a bunch of people harassing me lmao I also DO have a genderfluid NPC in the works when I get around to working on Denver and Cecilia's hometown, but that's a future project

But please don't send me messages asking me to make changes, or demanding that I add compatibility or YOUR headcanons to my stuff. I will add compatibility to mods that I WANT to, and I will make whatever changes I please to my NPCs.

hey about your post abt sdv’s inclusivity (or lack thereof) & complaint abt how fans perceive it i just want to say i really agree and it frustrates me how people put stardew on a pedestal for rep. even with the gay availability (which i will acknowledge did assist in spearheading free access player marriage for the genre going forward, especially for story of seasons because the series didn’t have it until after hashimoto left & rune factory only got it on due to the localisation team’s pushing (and then hashimoto left again)) the game is honestly quite heteronormative still. like it’s a very straight game doused in a rainbow coat of paint. the amount of characters who comment on the idea of a same gender player romance after initiating it with effectively like Wow, I Never Considered It Before You, Player! is in the multiples, all “rival pairings” are m/f, if you marry abigail and lower your hearts with her she’ll grouse about how she should’ve married sebastian instead, etc. the only characters who are ever actually lgbt in text are potentially the player and leah, but only if you play as a female farmer. it’s frustrating seeing it get held up so high

also the character of color rep like… as you mentioned there are only two in the game and they both fall under a known stereotype (that being the black nerd stereotype). demetrius is also one of the most villainized and hated characters in the game because of how he’s portrayed in maru’s 2 heart event and through the eyes of sebastian. his and sebastian’s relationship being so rocky doesn’t even make sense at this point, especially with that stepparenting how-to book he has in his room. he’s been in sebastian’s life for like 20 years. why is he constantly villainized in-writing to give the game’s emo white boy fav someone to gripe about. it’s frustrating. he’s one of my fav sdv characters and it’s frustrating seeing how he’s treated by a lot of his writing and a lot of fans - especially sebastian fans - to this day, and it’s really not a good look when you sit down and look at sdv from an analytical critical perspective.

It’s alright. I’m glad that there are others who look at sdv in a more critical light instead of blindly praising and defending it. Forgive me for not knowing the sdv characters’ names as I found them boring and forgettable. I only know Shane (his storyline and events were filled with shock value), Harvey (because he had the name of two face/Harvey but looked like Gordon from Batman) and penny (because of proud family). So bear with me.

I agree and that was one of the main reasons why I didn’t like sdv when I first played it. I hate how the fans say that it was the most diverse games in the market when it wasn’t. I mean, it’s great that it had gay marriage and got sos to include it once again in their games but outside of that, the diversity was lacking. It’s unacceptable that there are only two people of color in the whole town (and a racial stereotype) in a game made in 2016! I also heard the creator also put bs in the game like adding a animal with a stereotypical West Indian accent like it’s the 80s and elements of non western culture in the island update while not adding more diversity in the game! What a slap in the face to all the fans of color who begged for more diversity in the game. I also can’t believe that there wasn’t one gay couple in the game outside the player if you choose to gay marry. Even sos had one openly gay guy in their games.

Now that you mention it, it is heteronormative. It feels like the creator added lines like “I can’t believe I’m gay” or “who knew that I would end up with a girl when I’m one too” to every character you gay marry. It’s so unnecessary that every character said this line. It feels fake to me, especially as a bi woman and ruins the romance. As you said, for some reason it goes for the f/m semi rival system that hm/sos games had but worse. Why couldn’t that gamer girl with the purple hair express that she wants to get with the one with blue hair (wasn’t her name Coraline?)? Or the football guy wanting to be with guy who looks like Martin from Martin mystery?

Yeah, both of them were the awful “black nerd” trope that was popular in the 80s and nothing more. I mean all sdv characters were based on old movie tropes (like sos/hm characters were based on anime tropes) but the black nerd trope was dated in a bad way.

I also noticed that both of them were demonized in some routes. I’m guessing that emo guy was Sebastian, right? I married him in my game and I remember that he said some awful things about maru (didn’t remember her name until you mentioned it). He didn’t even try to make amends with her or at least take the awful things he said back. The only time was he was shown to be remorseful about it was when he had two kids and wished that they didn’t have the same experience he did with his sibling (of course the game never elaborate on it or at least show him say he’s sorry). It also rubbed me the wrong way with how Demetrius was portrayed as an unfair jerk. He is not the worst person in that town and yet the game (and fandom) acts like he is. You’re right also about It not making sense either because he was married into the family for 20 years but the game (and characters like emo guy with his rebellious 13 year old attitude) acts like he was there for a year.

Honestly, the way Sebastian fans treated the only two black characters in fan fiction made me hate the character when I was playing the game. I already didn’t like him because he was just as bland as the rest of the characters in the game but his fandom being racist just turned me off the character completely.

The sdv fandom has a major racism problem. Not only do they treat existing characters of color like trash but how they are so against putting more diversity in the game. Kind of ironic since they say that other games have no excuse to not put gay romance to prop up sdv just to turn around and say that it’s unrealistic to have poc in a small town to fans of color.

It’s pretty easy to get frustrated with the game and its fans because they are hyper sensitive to criticism and the game doesn’t address these problems after 8 years. It’s even worse when you see the guy update the game regularly for years and has yet to address these issues. Then the stans refuse to acknowledge the issues, attacks others for pointing out the flaws and use the “one guy made it” excuse constantly.
