I just found out one of Sterling's love gifts are 🌻🌻🌻 and being a generous friend, I gift him one. (Yes. speed up his heart events) But I didn't know, gifting him that flower gives a different dialogue.

Obedience Training

Spent some time going through old drafts and stumbled upon this scene. It's too short on its own to toss on Ao3. It made me laugh, though, so I thought I'd toss it up here. (Ed: the fine people on the Stardew Valley Fanfiction discord persuaded me to post it on Ao3 anyway. You can find it here.

“I’m guessing someone told you about movie night?” Sterling asked as he neared, smiling at Callie even as he gave her a quick once over. She didn’t seem any worse for wear from the day before.

“Yeah, Jeric mentioned something this morning, and then I confirmed with Mia,” Calle said, before narrowing her eyes. “You didn’t need to send him to check on me, by the way.”

“He volunteered,” Sterling said, raising his hands in self-defense.

She eyed him, then sighed. “If you say so. Anyway, who is coming tonight?”

“Well, I’d love to say you and I are—” he broke off with a snicker as Callie glared at him. “Sorry, sorry, the setup was too good.”

Ears red and eyes narrowed, Callie smirked. “Well, if we are, it certainly won’t be together.”

“That’s not a problem. I make it a point to ensure my partner gets off fir—” this time Callie smacked his arm, loudly. He chortled at how red she turned, even as he rotated the arm she’d hit.

“Sterling Cooper!” she hissed, though her lips still quirked with amusement. For all that she may pretend otherwise, he knew her sense of humor could get even raunchier than his own.

“Hmm, think I’d prefer to hear you scream my name,” he said with a flirty look.

“I swear by all that is good and holy that if you keep going, I will throttle you,” she threatened as they entered the yard to his house.

Laughing, Sterling replied, “Well, I’m not huge into breath play, but—”

“Dammit, Red!” she yelled.

“No, no, no, not my nickname, baby cakes. I want you to scream my actual name,” he said.

“You’re utterly impossible! A menace to society and all good sense everywhere!” Callie growled, stalking ahead of him to open the door.

Still grinning, Sterling said, “You’re the one who keeps insisting that with enough hard work anything’s possible, so…”

Opening the door and stomping inside, Callie called, “Mia, does Max have an extra leash?”

At the sound of his name Max came bounding out of the hallway and made a beeline for Callie.

“Yeah, why?” Mia asked; she sat at the kitchen table putting the finishing touches on a tray of kitty muffins.

“She thinks I need obedience training,” said Sterling.

“I want to strangle him and doubted you had a noose handy,” Callie said right on his heels even as she petted Max.

“You’re the one who thinks you can housebreak me,” he reminded her, still grinning from ear to ear.

“Okay, children,” Mia cut in before Callie really did strangle him. “I think that’s enough for right now,” she continued when Callie opened her mouth, giving the other woman the evil eye. Sighing, Callie subsided, instead muttering to Max as she continued petting him.
