Inquisitor Women in Star Wars: a 2024 Summary
while women are underrepresented in the Sith order, the Inquisitorius is quite an egalitarian organization :) let's sum up what we know about these lovely ladies
(spoilers for everything concerning inquisitor characters, including the manner of their death)
2. Second Sister aka Trilla Suduri
Padawan to Cere Junda at the time of Order 66
captured and tortured into joining the Inquisitorius shortly after
dies 5 years later, executed by Vader for her perceived failure
human; age unknown, I'd estimate late teens to mid-twenties at the time of recruitment
created for Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), appeared before the game's release as a cameo in Darth Vader 2017 issue 19 (2018) and as a main character in the game tie-in miniseries Dark Temple. mentioned in Rise of the Red Blade (2023).
ambitious, relentless, a good slicer. wears a full helmet all the time when on the job.
3. Third Sister aka Reva Sevander
12-year-old human youngling at the time of Order 66
joined the organization voluntarily and while hiding her identity, at an unspecified point a relatively short time before 10 years post-Order 66
left the Inquisitorius 10 years after Order 66, after failing to kill Darth Vader and being left to die
created for Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022). not in RotRB, likely due to not yet being a member during the book's timeline. does not appear and isn't mentioned in other canon material, outside of OWK's comic adaptation.
spent 10 years single-mindedly pursuing her goal of revenge. very intense and ambitious. youngest recruit we know of and the only one to have at least a quasi-canon number duplicate (the Third Brother).
4. Fourth Sister aka Lyn Rakish
joined the Inquisitorius around the time of Order 66, apparently of her own free will
species, age and rank at that point unknown, may have been a peer of Barriss or somewhat older
left the Inquisitorius after serving it for over 15 years (actual time unknown but less than 20 years)
created for Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), part of the main cast in Tales of the Empire (2024), mentioned in RotRB (2023).
dedicated to the organization, pragmatic and better at cooperation than most colleagues.
7. Seventh Sister
joined the Inquisitorius shortly after Order 66, and appears to have been tortured into it
mirialan; age and rank before recruitment unknown, implied she may have been a peer of Aayla Secura or younger
killed in action after serving the Inquisitorius for 16 years
created for Rebels s2 (2015), a minor character with several scenes in Darth Vader 2017, RotRB (2023) and the Inquisitors comic miniseries (2024)
only one on the list without a known name. snarky and flirty with targets. strained relationship with multiple coworkers.
9. Ninth Sister aka Masana Tide
Dowutin, age unknown and hard to estimate
joined the Inquisitorius involuntarily shortly after Order 66, through torture and mutilation
dies 10 years later, killed by her target
created for Darth Vader (2017) as a recurring character. part of the main cast in Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), shows up in Jedi: Survivor (2023), has a part in RotRB (2023) and Inquisitors (2024).
best empath of the Inquisitorius. snarky and jovial even with Darth Vader. very traumatized. keeps losing body parts.
13. Thirteenth Sister aka Iskat Akaris
joined voluntarily after flirting with the dark side for years and being groomed by Palpatine
21-year-old Knight at the time, pkorian (species created for her)
killed 5 years after joining by Vader for perceived disloyalty
created for Darth Vader 2017 issue 19 (2018), main character of novel Rise of the Red Blade (2023)
only inquisitor to have a boyfriend in canon. has a helmet she wears on missions but is pretty laid back about it. only gets her inquisitor name a while into her tenure, so her birth name is known to others.
+ Barriss Offee
former Jedi in Republic prison at the time of joining
agreed to get recruited a short while after Order 66, but left on her first mission after learning more about the organization, never got a proper inquisitor title
mirialan; age unknown but is around the age or slightly older than Ahsoka, 17 year old at the time; would have been 21 according to a non-canon reference book
has existed since 2002 as a background character in the prequels and their now non-canon tie-in novels, her short-lived inquisitor iteration was long rumored and introduced in Tales of the Empire (2024).

The Best Movie Versions of Jedi: Fallen Order
As someone who has made too many videos about these games, figured I'd share my favorite "movie" editions of Fallen Order. It's the best way to meet the Mantis crew and experience Cal's journey if you don't have a gaming PC/console or want to relive the adventure in a condensed format. Also a great resource for making edits!
STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order - Movie Edition by MovieEditionGames
[2K, no HUD, YT CC captions available] My favorite viewing option for FO. It includes relevant gameplay mixed in with cutscenes, along with custom camera shots that showcase the environments during traversal. Clean music transitions and intentional character movement elevate it even further.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (The Movie) by Andy Gilleand
[4K HDR, letterboxed, no HUD, YT CC captions available] A very close second for FO viewing. The high-res, detailed textures really showcase how beautiful this game is. Along with relevant gameplay blended with cutscenes, this version also includes chapter markers to find different sections more easily.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - Game Movie by Video Game Player
[4K 60FPS, letterboxed, no HUD, no captions] Another 4K option with chapter markers (this time with on screen titles!) but doesn't use HDR.
STAR WARS: JEDI FALLEN ORDER All Cutscenes (Cal Mod) by Gamer's Little Playground
[4K 60FPS, includes HUD and in-game captions] Cal takes a nap and wakes up with a beard! If you want to revisit the story with a new look, here's a good option.
Hope this helps! As of now I have not found a comparable version for Jedi Survivor. There are cutscene-only options and full 13-17 hour gameplay options, but nothing in between. If you have seen one let me know! Otherwise I may try to make it myself, eventually.

I got my first tattoo yesterday and I am so obsessed with it. My artist is incredible. Look at all those clean circles and lines! I know there are a lot of opinions about fandom tattoos but even if I were to fall out of love with Star Wars (unlikely) this is such a beautiful work of art. More about the inspiration for the tattoo below.
I’ve wanted something from Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order for a while. The game hit all the buttons for me in a way I can’t really explain. Cal getting Cordova’s wisdom of “failure is not the end” while full of despair, helped Cal get up and find his path forward and I feel like it has helped me too. Cal was able to take the broken crystal, the symbol of his failure, combine that with the gifts and tools given to him by his friends and mentors, and build something new.
Not to mention, the music in that scene (and really the whole game) is so beautiful and powerful. I don’t know enough about music to actually explain how or why it works so well. But, Eno Cordova’s theme is the turning point in the scene. His theme changes the tone from sorrow and grief to hope and then finally triumph.

SO, I SAW SOME PEOPLE TRYING TO READ THE SITH RESURGENCE FIC...
And i decided to help giving a resume about Aliana Beniko and the Beniko Clan for yall.
This is Part 1
So, in 2018, Lily talked about doing a star wars fanfic with a "Light Side Sith" character named Aliana Beniko, the only part about her changed being the fact that now she is full Dark Side Sith.
Aliana Beniko is the main character of Lily fantiction, and not only that but its her favourite oc, which is also one of the most disliked ocs for Star Wars fans.
As someone who read the 48 chapters of the Sith resurgence fanfic, and learned about the Lore of it, i will give to you a resume of the entire Beniko History
Lets begin with the past.
1-DARTH CAÍDA AND THE OLD REPUBLIC
The history of Aliana status even before she was born. In the Old Republic games its normal that players become the figure of Hero of Tython, an event of the game where you stop a warmongering Sith Lord on its mission to destroy the Galaxy. But what happens in this fic is basically that Lily character in the game is this said hero but not only that, she also marries one of the game main characters, a Sith named Lana Beniko. After the events of the Eternal War, a moment where both Jedi and Sith worked together to defeat the Eternal Empire, they decided to stay away from The drama and marry on another Planet. About Lily Character, her name is Darth Caída, wich means The Fallen Darth, because before becoming a Sith Lord she was a Jedi Knight.
After marrying eachother, both of them decided to form themselves an order of Sith called The Beniko Order. This would be a 100% female Group of Sith, where the members would be not united by blood, but other bonds. In another words, almost no one on this clan is blood related, but instead was adopted, was an apprentice or married a member of it. The clan also went into a more personal route, not focusing on becoming The strongest or The most Powerful Sith, but instead praising The love of a family and the low life.
This Sith Order stayed low for all of their lives, until the fall of the Sith Empire. So it happened the Rule of Two.
2-Darth Valee Beniko and Darth Bane
Darth Valee Beniko is a character that its only more mentioned in the Wikia than in the own fanfic, but its The one who built The ideals of the Order of Beniko after Darth Bane killed all the Sith and instated The Rule of Two. As i cant resume much without giving examples, there are some prints on both her vision of it and how the Beniko Order goes about certain themes
Yeah you read it right. Valee Beniko basically went the route of "Toxic Masculinity ruined the Sith". But after that nothing much is revealed about the Beniko clan, especially other members besides a very few ammount of them.
Like most of the Sith, the Beniko clan stayed in hiding. However, they didnt had easy lives, not only because of the Sith, but also because of a thing. A thing lily added to spite both the fans of Star Wars and the entire Star wars lore around.
A thing called "The Curse".
3-The Force hates them
Lily know that People dont like her oc, and specially her opinions about Star wars and the Force. Mostly of her opinions come from The game Knights of Old Republic 2, where we learn about the Nihilistic vision of the Force of Darth Thraya, who instead of seeing the Force as a mystical energy or a hidden power, sees it as an entity with will and preferences, who hates those who dont rely or worship them.
In this fic, The Force is treated as an evil entity who hates Dark Side users because they dont follow its will and even enslave it. Their hatred is more followed towards the Beniko Family, who follows a different path from other Sith, taking their powers from Passion instead of hate or fear, and being more focused on self-reflection than trying to be more powerful on the Force. Because of that, the Force kills them on purpose, putting dangers on their way to get rid of them. However, as this is a Lily fic we are talking about, The Force gets defeated by the ultimate powers of Mary Sueness of Aliana Beniko, but this is information for the next part.
Hope that i helped a bit, i will do part 2 soon enough
Bye bye

List your 10 favorite characters from 10 different Fandoms, then tag 10 people!
Tagged by the ever-awesome @sarnakhwritesthings Thanks so much! 💖
I decided to do video game fandoms, just to change things up a bit. In alphabetical order by fandom just 'cause. 😉
Karlach, Baldur's Gate 3 (Wait, did I just sneak Astarion into here? Yes, yes, I did. Please anticipate that I will stretch the whole 10 favs from 10 different fandoms as faaaaaar as I can. 🤷♀️😂)
Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (And there's Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish, funny how that worked out, hm? 😇)
Frank West, Dead Rising (Also starring Ms. Leah Stein... 💖)
Kara, Detroit: Become Human (With bonus Alice and Luther, filling out my precious little android family! I also want to note that technically Connor and Hank along with Markus, Simon and North all tied for this spot. But I thought it might be pressing it just a bit too much to have 8 people all crammed into the "1 character" spot. See? Restraint, I has it! *coughcough* 😂😉)
Nyx Ulric, Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive (Yeah, so technically Kingsglaive is a movie not a game but it's in support of a game so that's close enough for me. Also, hello to the lovely Lunafreya Nox Fleuret. *waves Lunyx shipper flag liek woah*)
Master Chief John-117, Halo (And Cortana, my bestest girl! *smushes her together into a happily ever after with John* That's totally how they ended up in the video game series, don't let anybody tell you differently! *fist thump* 😇😉)
youtube
The Ryder twins, Mass Effect: Andromeda (Sara Ryder x Reyes Vidal is liiiiiiife to me! And I didn't have a Scott Ryder x Gil Brodie GIF so I just went full on and linked you to the vid I made. No, no, it was my pleasure, really. 😇😇😇😉 Sara x Vetra Nyx and Scott x Cora Harper also belong here. You know, in the 1 single character ONLY spot. *nodnods in I do what I want, Thor* 😂🤷♀️)
Quiet, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Hello, Mr. Snake, sir, you're looking very well and TOTES not shippy here in this spot on my list, ahem! 😁😉)
Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, Resident Evil: Village (Wow, Karl Heisenberg, how completely unexpected of you to be in this GIF, too! *shocked Pikachu face* 😂😉)
Cal Kestis, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor (Merrin, my love! *sighs in fangirly shipperliness* "Shipperliness" is totally a word, too. Add it to your vocabulary today and impress all your friends! 😊😉)
No pressure tags: @officialnighttime @ionlymadethissoicouldleaveanask @helix-enterprises117 @jemmalynette @ghostslillady @morganas-pendragons @jellotherelol @fandomdancer @authorjones @thefuzzybat and anybody else who might like to do this! *boops your nose politely* 🤗💖

Coming in just under the spooky season wire!
Rating: Teen and Up
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Additional Tags: Post-Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order, Pre-Star Wars: Jedi: Survivor, Hurt No Comfort, Hurt Cal Kestis, Psychometry | Force Echo, Angst, Blood and Injury
Summary:
Two-Body Problem; noun, Astronomy, Mechanics. The problem of finding the motion, relative to one another, of two objects, where the position of each affects the motion of the other. He lowers his saber but does not turn it off. “Hey there,” he says. “You need to get out of here, evacuate off the planet. It’s not safe.” “Mechanical failures on levels four and nine,” the droid responds. “Full breach detected on level twelve.” Cal frowns. “Maybe it’s stuck in some kind of auto programming?” he asks BD. “Scanning. Total system failure. Anomaly detected. Signature unknown.” BD chitters nervously on his shoulder. “Hey,” Cal tries again. “If you can hear me – the exit is through that corridor, up the incline. Meet me out there, and I’ll get you out of here, okay?” The droid shuffles around again, as if responding to something that he and BD cannot see. “Anomaly detected.” it says again. And then it looks right at Cal. “Escape is futile.”

Corporate entities hate fanmade works and would love nothing more than to get them shut down entirely
They hate that there are people out there using their characters and their settings and having fun with them without having to pay them for the priviledge
But as long as fans aren't making money out of their IP they can currently get away with it. But we've recently seen a crackdown on people selling t-shirt designs, stickers, etc which violate this
So what can they do to try to firm up the laws on this, to get them to fall more in their favour?
Would writing their own fanfic and turning it into a show that they're making lots of money from be enough to do that, for them to sell merchandise and profit from someone else's IP without asking or paying for the use of it?
For it to maybe go to court for a very public fight over who can do what with a property they're a fan of?
Because that could well be what Disney is currently up to with their Star Wars shows
Not just making a few references to other movies or tv shows, but taking entire plotlines, blurring the edges of them, and dropping them right into their own shows
Want an example even if it risks containing show spoilers? of course you do!
Back in Season 7 of The Clone Wars (On the Wings of Keeradaks) we have a scene where Tech uses a recording of the flying lizards they encounted earlier to call them to their position and fly them out of danger
Just like Gandalf summons the eagles to come and rescue his party from the attack from Azog and his team of orcs and wargs, right down to the way some party members are left dangling over a huge drop off the mountainside
Later, in The Bad Batch (Reunion, S1), Hunter has been shot in the chest and Tech gets him up, gets him to safety, and (offscreen) medical aid is provided
Which is extremely close to that same rescue scene in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, only the part of it where Gandalf gets Thorin up and out of danger, with the assistance of the eagles, after he's been severly mauled by a warg, and then rendering medical assistance to him
Tech goes on to have a big fall (Plan 99, Bad Batch, S2), right off the end of a great big crumbling bridge. Sound familiar to any LotR fans?
And in a different episode (The Crossing, Bad Batch, S2) Tech is seen falling and landing in a similarly super familiar looking cave
Which repeats parts of the two separate scenes of Gandalf falling and 'dying' ('The Fellowship of the Ring' for the fall, and 'The Two Towers' for the cave scene) which all the characters get really sad about - until he gets better and comes back. Which has yet to be seen in Tech's case. (How Tech will be able to come back from his fall despite not being a wizard is explained via his character specific movie source they've made repeated use of, but since that's still hugely spoilery I'm not getting into that here)
And this is only a couple of examples of one tiny instance where this is happening, the show is filled with them and it applies to all the main characters not just Techdalf
'Entombed' (The Bad Batch, S2) hits The Hobbit up HARD for it's plot and not only gives us the Arkenstone but oblong, which it directly names as The Heart of the Mountain, which is found and then lost again, but dredges up a fire breathing dragon equivalent. Add in some additional Alien themeing and a lizardy creature that can be shot in the chest with a laser arrow before being tossed out of a window in full on 'OMG it's Ripley with the airlock' style and they're really cramming it in there. They end with a reference to an opportunity to find a golden chalice, which is what Bilbo took from Samug's hoarde as proof that he'd found it But people have been easily sidelined from thinking about any of this too hard by them throwing in a handful of surface references to Indiana Jones, the potential of a love interest being developed, and the 'dragon' being a creature previously seen in the Jedi: Fallen Order video game
And don't even get me started on how Senator Avi Singh appears to live in Dale (Common Ground, Bad Batch, S1), Roland and Isa Durand apparently live in Rohan (Paths Unknown, Bad Batch, S3) or Dr Hemlock and his former base at Dol Guldur (Paths Unknown, The Bad Batch, S3) and what that implies for the remainder of the show
They've blended together a lot of canon prequel & clone wars era Star Wars content with a range of supplementary non-canon SW content such a comic books, video games, Legends novels, etc which maintains the idea that this show is nothing more than Star Wars and keeps a lot of long term fans happy and distracted by seeing non-canon things finally appearing in a canon setting, even if they have changed some of the details
But so many concepts and images have been lifted barely altered from their original sources, not just from Tolkein's works, and just slapped down like we're not supposed to notice how much of it there actually is because they've made the animation and lighting so very very pretty
#the bad batch#the hobbit#star wars#lord of the rings#the clone wars#lotr#fandom#they're specifically taking scenes from the movie versions of these stories#which just makes it easier for them I suppose#already having a nice convenient visual to copy

Jedi: Fallen Order musings
Ahhh I finished the game! I suppose I don't really need to put spoiler tags for it, since it's several years old. But it was highly enjoyable and I loved it!
I love how much games are embracing character work these days. I expect it from Bioware, of course, but seeing it from EA and a major property like Star Wars is still really refreshing. I should have guessed that a story set just a few years after Order 66 about a young Jedi would be full of trauma, but I wasn't expecting it to be as in-depth and sensitive as it was. Trauma colors everything in this story, from Cal's wounded connection to the Force, to Cere cutting herself off from it entirely, to Merrin's fear and grief. Even BD-1 grieves his old friend and master and Greez still misses his great-grandmother.
I've seen a few articles about how Cal seemed like a flat or boring character, but I didn't get that at all. He's an 18-year-old young man whose childhood was obliterated by war, who's so afraid of his past and his power that he hasn't tried to leave Bracca in 5 years. He's so guarded at first, because he's had to be. He's slow to trust Cere and Greez, and that trust is broken when he learns what happened to Cere's Padawan. In his youth he reacts like many of us would -- arrogantly and self-righteously -- but it all flows from the deep scars he carries and is so afraid to face from losing his own Master. Fear leads to anger, of course.
He's afraid of trusting again, afraid of being hurt again, so afraid that it isn't until 3/4 of the way through the game that he finally bears to revisit the memories again from Order 66. Facing that loss, and that guilt for not being able to save his master, incapacitates him so badly that a Force vision shatters his lightsaber. (The game remembers it, too, and the animation of Cal reaching out of habit for his lightsaber and realizing it's broken every time you try to use it is heartbreaking.) When he goes to Ilum to try to forge a new lightsaber, he can't help but remember when he came here as a Padawan. BD-1 checks in on him and Cal tells him, no, he's not okay, it's hard for him to be there. The kid is just a massive ball of pain and trauma and watching him slowly unravel that and move forward through the course of the game is a powerful journey. No personality, my ass, LOL.
And Cere's journey! Her grief is far more complex than Cal's because she bears more guilt, and she was a fully fledged Jedi who thought she could keep others safe, and she failed. Fear and anger rule her, too, but despite that she's stubborn as hell, holding onto hope through everything. Her grief and suffering are revealed slowly and carefully through the game, and seeing the way she starts to heal by mentoring Cal is beautiful. When he falls down, she picks him up, even when he distrusts her -- and when she falls, too, he echoes her teaching back to her and helps her rise. Seeing her recovery of her confidence, her skills, her trust in herself -- ahh I'm tearing up again thinking about it. Also, she is fucking badass with a lightsaber!!!
I'm really excited to see what happens with Merrin in Jedi: Survivor (no spoilers, please!). Can't believe a Jedi and a Nightsister could find common ground, but "I'm the last of my kind" is a trauma bond like no other! I love her weird unsettling energy and the fact that she teases Greez and that when she had a choice to stay in the graveyard of her people and the past or strike out into the unknown, she chose to go.
... Reminds me, I still gotta go find all the seeds for Greez's terrarium. How else will he have the best space garden if not for me? Love him too. I'm always a sucker for gruff scoundrel accidentally catches family feels, and he's no exception.
And BD-1. My buddy, my friend, my savior, my companion. I loved Cal able to warm up and be relaxed with BD, and I loved BD's absolute helpfulness and sweet little noises. If anything happens to him I WILL kill everyone and then myself. ... same goes for Cal, in the end...
Note, I am hoping that whatever happens to Cal and BD, that it's hopeful. Jedi have a nasty habit of all dying out by A New Hope, but uh... maybe Cal will be different! We can hope!!! ;_; Well, we're just not gonna think about that.
I liked the ending. The further we kept going I started agreeing with Merrin and thinking "is this holocron such a good thing to have?" Cal's vision of the Padawans being tortured and himself as an Inquisitor, and the wisdom from the Zeffo sages bemoaning their hubris and the extinction they faced, certainly made it seem like trying to rebuild the Order wasn't the right choice, at least for now. As Cordova said, failure is part of the journey. Honestly a hopeful life lesson and one I need to remember when things don't come out as planned or hoped.
Also. How about Darth Vader just DESTROYING you? I had to look up how to get away because I just kept insta-dying with the Force choke XD The ONLY way to have him duel you is to just show instantly that you are NOWHERE NEAR HIS LEVEL! Dude didn't even get a health bar ahahahahah it was hopeless XD
Other scattered thoughts: with the exception of the Wookiees (sorry, hair technology just wasn't far enough along yet for them), the graphics were gorgeous. I loved exploring the different areas, especially as I gained more skills and abilities, and collecting creature logs and Force echoes. Cal's psychometry skill is very, very cool and I loved it. And I adored the Origin Tree! WOW! Did anyone else get a King's Quest vibe from it? I mean, come on!
In the meantime, where's my Fallen Order people to yell at? I haven't played more than 20 minutes of Survivor so all I can say about that is Cal's new beard and TATTOO are pretty great, though I miss my poncho ;_; but if anyone wants to yell about the first game with me, I'm here!

Honestly, I’m so over the endless hate for Star Wars Outlaws. It’s ridiculous.
I don't understand how people have been so quick to dismiss Outlaws entirely while they’re perfectly fine with EA jerking off Cal Kestis for yet another game despite how truly terrible Jedi Survivor was. That game threw everything that made Fallen Order a an enjoyable experience out of the window, spat all over the lore, and left us with a main character who’s impossible to root for, but sure, let’s keep giving that a free pass.
But somehow, Outlaws—a game that actually respects the Star Wars universe, gives us a fresh, compelling character in Kay Vess, and is genuinely fun to play—gets all this hate? Why? Because it’s not feeding the same stale jedi-power fantasy? Because Kay isn’t another generic, hyper-polished protagonist? Or maybe, and yes, I’m going there—maybe a lot of the backlash comes from the fact that Kay Vess doesn’t look like the women those people have saved in their Instagram wank bank. She’s a badass criminal with actual depth who doesn’t fit into the Instagram-filtered dream girl mould these critics are clutching onto like a mynock on a power cable.
This game is hands down one of the best Star Wars games I’ve ever played. The world-building, the characters, the story—all of it is just incredible. But of course, the internet is full of complaints from people who probably haven’t even bothered to play the game. Like, come back to me when you’ve actually completed Toshara, and then we can have a real conversation.
If you can’t appreciate what this game brings to the Star Wars universe, then maybe it’s not for you. But don’t come at me with your uninformed takes. I am exhausted with tags and comment sections filled to capacity with hot-takes from people with only a casual knowledge of Star Wars lore pretending to be experts just because they liked Empire Strikes Back that one time. Here’s a thought: how about you actually learn something about the universe before making random, baseless criticisms?
If you don’t know what you’re talking about, maybe don’t talk.
I stand by this game, and I stand by Kay Vess. Star Wars Outlaws is amazing, and no amount of moof-milker whining is going to change that.
#(tw:negativity)#(tw:fandom commentary)#((i can't stand jedi survivor - sorry if you enjoyed it - but i definitely did not))#((perspective: sw:survivor is the only star wars game - and i've played ALL of them - that I couldn't bring myself to finish))#((it was just that bad.))#((i hate everything in that game.))#(( everything))

I'm sorry, Respawn's Star Wars title being cancelled is a topic I'm gonna be talking about for awhile.
I just need y'all to know how much we were promised and how little we've gotten when it comes to Star Wars games in the past decade. So many titles have been cancelled. So, so many... and mostly because of dumb corporate bullshit like this. I'm beyond angry that this stuff just keeps happening. These publishers are destroying some amazing development teams and studios.
Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor have been the only real Star Wars games lately; games that went in with a goal of telling a new story from start to finish. Not mobile games like Hunters or Galaxy of Heroes, not side content for multiplayer games like the half baked campaign for Battlefront II, not parody retellings like a LEGO game - just full on Star Wars game. Granted, I've yet to play Star Wars: Squadrons' campaign but I haven't heard a single thing about it since it came out and that doesn't' leave me very hopeful.
When it comes to Star Wars single player FPS too we haven't gotten a new title in over a decade (again, not counting Battlefront II) If you want to be technical, the last one we got was in 2007 with Renegade Squadron for the PSP. The last big Star Wars FPS, though, was Republic Commando in 2005. That's it. That was the last one. To add insult to injury, RepComm left on a cliffhanger. Then they cancelled its sequel, cut ties with Karen Traviss for the books based around it because Clone Wars was picking up steam and that was going to go in a completely different direction than what Traviss had for the Clone Wars... It's upsetting.
Do you guys remember how fucking fantastic the Jedi Knight games were and still are. Do you remember just the absolute golden era for Star Wars games from 1996 to 2010. What the actual fuck happened. As soon as the seventh console generation came around, everything fell apart. Most cancelled Star Wars games are from this era. 1313, the Darth Maul game, Battlefront 3, Battlefront 4, Imperial Commando, First Assault... The list, unfortunately, goes on and doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon.
I want to hold out hope, I really do. I want to be excited for new Star Wars games but this just keeps happening again, and again, and again, and again... Out of the six(?) Star Wars games that were announced several years ago, it seems like only Ubisoft's title is going to make it through. I'm excited, of course. A story in-between Empire and Jedi is going to be interesting regardless. But after watching this absolute slaughter over the years, I keep asking myself:
What happened?

Bread's Game Of The Year Honorable Mention #4: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
I'm pretty burnt on Star Wars. Since the Disney era began there's been five movies, an ever increasing amount of TV shows, and an endless parade of circular arguments of what Star Wars is supposed to be, and it all drives me near to madness. The video games though? Those have been plugging along at a high quality, and somehow, it feels like it's easy to miss that. I'm generally of the mind that video games, by their very nature and existence, are better than movies and TV. Usually, if some big media property has a game version, that's going to be the one I gravitate towards, because playing video games is more fun for me than passively watching something. Enter: Jedi Survivor, a fairly iterative and not all that revolutionary sequel to 2019's Jedi Fallen Order, but a good one nonetheless. In a year full of bombastic, 10/10 video games, it's so easy to overlook something that's just good, maybe not super remarkable, but good. Jedi Survivor has a fairly similar setup to Fallen Order. Cal Kestis is still on the Empires most wanted list. Still running missions that he thinks will further the cause of bringing down the empire, and still, frankly, being endearing as hell. The story is a bit of a surprise this time, as instead of diving further into the fight against the empire for the bulk of the game, as would be so easy, a lot of it is largely focused on the recently introduced High Republic era of tie in media. As such there's a lot more Jedi mysticism, old feuds and lost temples in this one. Not that there weren't those before, but they really get the limelight here. The gameplay itself is fairly similar, but they make some key changes that I do think results in this one being the better of the two "Jedi" games. There are more combat styles to chose from, resulting in more varied gameplay that can range from fast and furious strikes with dual lightsabers, to a two handed claymore type weapon that favors high risk with slow moving attacks. While it wasn't my favorite, there's even an interesting combat style that straight up favors Cal firing a gun with his left hand while using the lightsaber in his right. Alongside the new combat, the game takes a piece of advice from the last game that I personally had hoped for, and increases the frequency of the boss battles by quite a bit. A big improvement from the first games relative lack of them. even if some of the bosses are obvious repeats of ones that had come before, or souped up normal enemies, it still provides a fun end cap to bigger moments that sometimes that original game failed to provide. All in all, Jedi Survivor is, as I said, a fairly iterative sequel. In a year where the frequency of good games is frankly absurd, that doesn't exactly stand out. Still, it deserves a shout out, It builds on and improves the foundation set up in Jedi Fallen Order, and makes a really solid action adventure game from that. It's one worth playing. Also this game has Turgle in it. I won't spoil who that is, but this game has them in it. 10/10.

Jo Rant Below The Cut
I don’t know much about Star Wars (wink wink, I know everything about everything I’m just being humble) but the fact that the video games and book series that are full of lore and story and character development and rich world building have such a huge fucking following should be indicative enough that the fans demand more from the films and series than they’re being given.
I haven’t seen The Acolyte yet but from what I do know about it I’m a little upset by its cancellation because I literally don’t give a shit about the Skywalker Saga/Era anymore.
STOP SETTING THINGS BETWEEN 36BBY and 36ABY CHALLENGE.
But something that annoys me about all of these shows—AND I DO MEAN ALL OF THEM not just Star Wars—is the high production cost/polished look of them with only 8 episodes per season. Just like everyone else.
Give me 20 episodes of good storytelling and props made in a way that they look like some cosplayer made them. And that’s not meant in a disparaging way. Because cosplayers and nerds do all of that shit for fun on a tiny budget and they look amazing. Cast relatively unknown actors, just like in the original trilogy, have practical effects and stunts.
I want to be entertained. I don’t care if you give me puppet shows. Just give me something with substance.
In the mean time I can’t wait to play Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor again. AND OUTLAW. Even though they’re both set in the Skywalker Era. BECAUSE FUCKING STORYTELLING.

Summary: Cal doesn't like escape pods.
-o-o-o-o-
This is too similar, Cal thinks.
The issue is that he didn't think that until it was already too late. He's had other things on his mind, things like dragging Merrin through the cold Imperial hallways of a Star Destroyer.
She took a blaster to the hip shortly after it became obvious that they miscalculated how many troops would be stationed on this ship at this moment. It was supposed to be an easy infiltration; sneak in, grab data, escape. With Merrin, it should have been a cake-walk, but with most things when it came to Cal, even cake-walks can go deadly.
Alarms blared overhead, and Cal didn't know if his grasp was tighter around Merrin's waist or on the data-disk. She clutched to his jacket, swearing Dathomirian curses with every step, as Cal rushed through the halls following BD's near panicked instructions. Well, rushed is a generous word, however there's not really a good word for limping in agonized purpose because he also took an electro-staff to the knee.
He could hear troopers gathering behind them, giving chase, catching up. All he could think was Save Merrin, ignore his own pain, extract the data, escape. He didn't bat an eye when they finally arrived at a long hallway of escape pods, and he didn't hesitate to tell BD-1 to slice one open.
The second he stumbled with Merrin in tow into the escape pod, the enemy had caught up.
He should have recognized the anxiety, the familiar panic, that swirled in his stomach at the sight of them. He raised a hand to grab as many as he could within the Force and slam them down, but he didn't catch all of them. The few stormtroopers that remained standing didn't waste time aiming and shooting. With his hands full of Merrin, he didn't think to deflect the bolts with his lightsaber. He turned his shoulders and covered her from their fire, collapsing as agony ripped through his shoulder, side, calf.
He tumbled, and Merrin cursed, scrambling to one knee to lift herself upright. With an agonized scream, green fire flared around the remaining stormtroopers. Cal didn't get to see what their fate was before BD-1 closed the escape pod and activated the launching mechanisms.
It's then that Cal can think, laying on the ground with several wounds, sweat lining his brow.
This. Is too similar.
The world lurches, and so does his stomach. Merrin has him by the shoulders, hauling him to one of the seats lining the walls. He thinks briefly that maybe he wasn't fully responsible for dragging her here, maybe she helped drag him here too judging by her panicked strength. She's careful with her hip as she buckles him in, letting out several strings of insults and threats that would come into play if they don't survive this. He doesn't have time to humor her anger before the escape pod jolts again, and his stomach jumps to his throat.
She finishes securing him before she collapses into a chair of her own on the opposite wall, her hip twisted and her teeth clenched.
He wants to ask her if she's ok. He wants to apologize for this going so wrong. He wants-
The escape pod enters the atmosphere of the planet below, and everything Cal thinks and wants flies out the window.
The slam of atmosphere, air, gravity, it's too much when combined with the setting and the situation. Everything's shaking, and he brings his hands to his temples, eyes squeezed shut. He can hear it. He can see it.
Jaro Tapal's last words. The burn across his jaw. The shouts of murderous clone troopers. The shaking of the pod as he scrambles back, breathing hard, chest aching, hands shaking, eyes blurry as he screams.
Finally, the universe crashes around him, and the escape pod skids on rough terrain into a rougher stop. The lights flicker, and there's several seconds of silence, and Cal is momentarily aware of himself. He's curled up on the chair with his hands tangled in his hair. His cheeks are wet with tears, and the position he's in does no favors for his injuries.
He looks over to Merrin, and his vision blurs.
She's there, across from him, but she didn't manage to properly secure herself before they entered the atmosphere. She slumped in the chair with her eyes closed. There's a tear in the skin above her left eye, near the temple going into her hairline. Blood drips down her chalky skin, stains her gray hair. If she's alive, she's certainly not conscious. She must have hit her head on something within the jolts of the pod.
Panic seizes Cal. This isn't fight or flight, this is past and present.
This is Jaro Tapal, laying dead on the floor, Bogano rain slamming on the roof, louder than hail. This is Merrin, laying so still, so still.
He can't breathe. He can't think. He can't move. He needs to move. He needs to move. Who knows if there are clones who will follow, find him and finish the job. He needs to hide, run, disappear.
No, no he needs to get out of this seat and make sure Merrin is ok. He needs to scout his surroundings, contact Greeze for extraction.
He.
He can't move. He's hyperventilating. It's stupid. It's stupid. He's been in escape pods a handful of other times, not enough to get used to them but enough to know he should be able to push down the panic and keep functioning until he's out of danger.
Merrin is so still.
Master's skin is already so cold.
"Buh," he gasps, his voice raw and wet. His hands are cramping, muscles close to seizing, his head pounds. "BD, st- stim, Merrin, please-"
He gasps and curls in tighter around himself, not able to pay enough attention if BD-1 followed his instructions. He gasps, sobs, falling deeper and deeper within the pain that it takes him entirely too long to realize there are hands on his own. A pressure at his side.
He focuses on the contact. Her skin is smooth, her grip strong. She rubs at his knuckles until his hands eventually loosen around his hair. The second he's no longer at risk of tearing out his own hair, her hands are clasping his. He holds onto her, sobbing and leaning forward so his head hits her chest.
She whispers, her voice far away, but comforting, as she holds him. BD chirps sadly, pressing deeper into his side.
"I'm sorry," he gasps. "I'm sorry."
"You're okay," Merrin responds, voice strained and tired. "You're safe."
He shakes his head. She doesn't understand; no one does. There's not a single living creature who knows what happened that day, who knows the terror and the memories that haunt him still a decade later.
She continues to whisper comforting things, holding him as long as he holds her. It takes what feels like years for his breathing to calm down and his vision to clear. His eyes feel swollen, and the various injuries he's gathered are starting to protest at his position. He lets out a low moan, uncurling and wincing at the pain, wiping his eyes so he can finally look at her.
The STIM healed the worst of the cut, but her skin is flushed and eyes wet. "Are," he croaks, "are you okay?"
Her lips thin. "More than you. BD-1 contacted Greeze, we have to start moving to a pick-up point. Are you okay to move?
Cal takes a deep breath. "Get me out of this kriffing pod."
She nods and unhooks him from the straps of the chair. Distantly, he feels like he should be embarrassed to have something so simple done for him, but as she helps him to his feet, leaning him on her good side, he can't bring himself to care. All he can do is limp with her out of the pod, focusing on his breathing and doing everything he can to carry his own weight. He fails miserably at this, but Merrin doesn't complain. He almost considers asking BD-1 for a STIM, but ultimately decides his injuries aren't life threatening, and he doesn't think the added adrenaline boost STIMs provide would mix well with his current mental state.
Cal can't bring himself to remember the name of the planet they've crashed on, but it's rocky and humid, even in the darkness of night. BD-1 scouts ahead, trilling the correct directions and best footholds.
The further they leave the pod behind them, the more Cal feels like he doesn't have to consciously force himself to breathe.
When they finally collapse on the top of a flat, rock plated hill, Cal leans against Merrin's shoulder and focuses himself within the present. It takes a few moments for him to find his voice, and when he does it still sounds raw.
"That could have gone better," he breathes.
Merrin huffs, staring up at the stars and holding a tight arm around his waist. "Do you... wish to talk about it?"
BD-1 chirps, nudging Cal's knee. A wet laugh escapes Cal's chest and he shakes his head. "Some things I can't bring myself to talk about yet," he whispers. "But thank you for getting me out of it."
"You do the same for me," Merrin replies softly. Cal blinks at that. He's not sure he's ever seen Merrin react like he just did to something, but he supposes people process old, lingering trauma differently, he doesn't feel the need to pry.
Some of the stars move in the sky in a way that is very much not star-like. The lights grow closer, and the silhouette of the Mantis grows closer above them.
"Come, Cal," Merrin says gently, slowly getting to her feet. Cal groans, but follows her up, holding onto her arm for balance. "The past may wound us, but tomorrow can always heal if we let it."
Cal chuckles softly, eyes wet, squeezing her arm. "Thank you, Merrin," he says, genuinely, chest full of appreciation, a welcome difference from the tightness it had been not long before. "To tomorrow, then."
