"It sure has been a while since the Lylat Wars, hasn't it?" Falco spoke as Peppy saw a lone ship outside the Great Fox. "Oh Fox, Zizzi. I almost forgot. I received this message from Krystal." Peppy said as Krystal's image appeared on the communicator.
"Hi, Fox. I really appreciate what you and Zizzi both did for me." Krystal said. "And Fox, I'm just so sorry we never did get a chance to talk. I'm left with this one little thing to do." She said as the ship landed in the back hangar of the Great Fox.
"And that's to say "thank you." Krystal said to Fox as she entered the bridge. "Uh... okay. I mean, sure, no problem." Fox said nervously to Krystal. "You're not shy, are ya, Fox?" Slippy chuckled about Fox being in love with Krystal. Falco even nudges Fox. "My sensors indicate Fox's temperature is rising. Are you OK, Fox?" ROB 64 asked as everyone started to laugh. "I'm gonna be just fine." Fox said.
Zizzi was enjoying some time relaxing in Conton city after working on some missions recently. She was enjoying a nice walk around town at the moment as she looked at the sky. She had her hands in her pockets as she was wondering around.
The Supreme Kai of Time, Chronoa was walking out of the Time Nest while her best friend, Tokitoki was flying alongside her and they both see Zizzi wondering around Conton City.
"Oh Zizzi! There you are." Chronoa waved and greeted to the blue Majin Time Patroller.

Ideas for a Star Fox movie (long post)
Long post ahead but, like the title says, here's some of my personal ideas for a Star Fox movie
-We start the movie with Andross working in his laboratory at Cornaria, soon realizing he's... not all there. We see him mess around with globe, crushing it a bit in his hands. He wants the world, no, the galaxy to pay for something but we don't know what yet (his wife died due to the cornarian government being moronic and he wants to take it out on everyone and everything, but that's revealed much later)
- We cut to Fox as a kid. It's nice and peaceful at first, with James playing with his son in their backyard while Peppy and Pigma are there. Fox's mom goes to the car to go to the store, but Fox forgot to give his mom a bracelet he made for her. He runs up to give it to her before she can leave... and the car blows the fuck up, killing Fox's mom instantly and probably traumatizing Fox for life. At this point, Andross makes his move, shooting up his lab with a laser pistol and trying to make his escape. Andross realizes the car bomb meant for James killed Fox's mom instead. James tries to take Andross out, but Andross manages to escape by shooting at James, managing to scrape his face and blinding him in one eye. Andross escapes while James comforts his son, Peppy and Pigma not exactly sure what to make of this scenario.
- Cut to years later, Fox is joining the cornarian academy in his father's footsteps, and sees his dad and his crew off on their mission to stop a corrupted Andross. We follow James, Pigma and Peppy until they get to Andross, where Pigma betrays them. He shoots Peppy just enough that he can't control his ship and ends up floating away, watching helplessly and calling for backup as James McCloud is brutally murdered by Andross. Help arrives in time to save Peppy, but it's too late for James.
-Fox... takes the news pretty hard. After a long while of mourning and a heroes funeral for James, where Peppy tries his best to comfort Fox, Fox demands that the government do something about Andross. Because its the government, though, they don't do anything because, to them, it's just one soldier. They're training a thousand more... or 999 more, as Fox gets kicked out when he attacks one of the government officials. Nothing too violent, just a good hard deck across the schnozz. This act catches the attention of Falco Lombardi and Slippy Toad.
- Falco and Slippy were both dropouts, Slippy because he wasn't the best flyer and a bit of a coward (even if he was a great mechanic) and Falco because he was too hot headed and headstrong, not following orders well, even if he was arguably the best pilot around.
- Fox, Falco, Slippy and Peppy end up journeying on their own for several years, establishing themselves as a mercenary service, until they find General Pepper (an old friend of Peppy's), who's ready to go to war with Andross. Just hearing Andross's name is enough to make Fox almost snap then and there, so he offers their services. Pepper's like "why should I except help from a bunch of drop outs?" But Peppy manages to convince Pepper by telling them about the team's accomplishments, and Fox's legacy.
- Pepper gives them the Great Fox, which is in pretty bad shape, and so is Rob 64. Star Fox wants a better ship, but Pepper says that this is the only ship he can trust Star Fox, as they're mercenaries for hire. Slippy is actually excited, just because of Rob, who he slowly rebuilds throughout the movie.
- This is where the crew finds the arwings, which are hidden in the cargo bay. The four look over the ships and realize they're excellently crafted for flight, maneuverability and combat. So, with a montage set to a remix of the Cornaria theme from Star Fox SNES, the four rebuild and revamp the arwings using supplies found around the Great Fox.
- Meanwhile, Star Wolf is offered work by Andross, which they accept cause it's good money. But Wolf and Leon don't know that Pigma betrayed James McCloud and Andross killed him, believing he died in a random fire fight (Wolf was James's rival before his demise, and holds a certain guilt that they never got a proper one on one duel. He and Leon are value loyalty above all else. )
- For the most part the movie is sort of a scavenger hunt, flying around and slowly uncovering Andross's plan, which is to use a satellite on Planet Venom to control everyone in the galaxy, and make them all his slaves, so no one can ever act irrationally again. No passion, no heart, anything. He essentially wants to make the galaxy full of emotionless robots.
-During the scavenger hunt portion, Star Fox proves their worth by helping Bill Grey (Fox's friend/roommate who actually graduated the academy) and the rest of the cornarian army defend Planet Katina from a massive attack by Andross's, and helps Katt Monroe (someone who wasn't part of the academy, but was friends with Falco and they meet outside curfew to just hang out) sneak through Planet Zoness when she says she has info on Andross's plan, which is how they both find out his plan and why he went insane and wants to destroy everything. (The wife story I mentioned WAY at the beginning of this)
- Fox puts on a content face and is normally the most level headed one in the crew. But when Andross contacts them before going to Venom, Fox (justifiably) loses his shit. The only other time he gets this mad (aside from the government fiasco) is their first encounter with Star Wolf on Planet Fichina earlier in the movie, where Star Fox actually loses because Fox gets filled with rage as Pigma taunts him, saying things like "Your father died squealing like a baby!". Fox loses his mind and tries to just fuckin obliterate Pigma, but he gets outsmarted and defeated by Star Wolf. The only reason Fox survives is because Falco and Peppy save him.
- The final battle begins on Planet Venom, with Star Fox, Bill, Kat, and a good chunk of the cornarian army doing a full frontal assault. It all goes smoothly, the Great Fox even helping out when things get really hairy, until they eventually reach where Andross plans to launch the satellite. They're ready to take it out, when Star Wolf attacks.
- When Wolf and Leon find out Pigma is a traitor and realized Andrew is obviously siding with Andross, they take matters into their own hands. During their final fight with the Star Fox crew, Leon and Wolf end up bailing on Andrew and Pigma, leading to those two getting killed by Slippy and Peppy respectively. Then Wolf challenges Fox to a one on one duel, the fight he never got with his father. Fox wins the duel, and Falco ends up destroying Andross's main satellite.
- They all begin to leave, but Fox hears his father tell him it's not over. As long as Andross is alive, he'll try again. So Fox does the only thing he can. He says he'll go it alone from here, going into Andross's base and letting the exit get sealed behind him.
-Andross, despite starting as a normal, if deranged, scientist, did an experiment to merge himself with his ship, giving him control with a thought. Unfortunately this proves to be harmful, over the movie he fuses with it, and that's how he becomes the giant monkey head and floating hands we know, which Fox sees as he flys in.
- Andross: "YOU WANT REVENGE, JUST AS I DO! THAT'S WHY YOU'RE HERE TO KILL ME!!!
Fox: "... I thought that was it. I really did... but no, Andross. I'm here to save the galaxy (goes into all range mode) killing you is just a nice bonus.
- Because the fights in a big circular arena, Andross tears the tiles off the wall and throws them at Fox, as a nod to his SNES days.
- During their fight, Fox and Andross talk about revenge, and how Andross let it turn him into a monster, while Fox just let it power his resolve all the more.
Fox: "and if there's one thing I can thank you for Andross... *he barrel rolls in front of Andross with fully charged up blasters* it's showing me what I will NEVER turn into." *and he blasts Andross on the face*
- Andross is a bitch though and pulls the self destruct technique, and it plays out like the ending to Star Fox 64, with Fox getting caught in the exploration, but seeing the ghost of his father and following it out. James goes on about how he and Fox's mom are so proud of him, and that he's become so strong. Fox sheds some manly tears here for good measure.
- Fox escapes and, again, it plays put like the ending to 64. Only a bit bigger, as EVERYONE was there to witness Fox save the entire galaxy. His crew, Pepper and his forces, Bill and Kat, even Star Wolf (all two members that remain) watch from the shadows with approval.
- The film would end with Pepper offering Fox a spot in the army, but Fox says they prefer to fly solo. Pepper, grateful for their services, gifts them the Great Fox and the Arwings regardless. The Star Fox team runs off, ending the film.
- There's a post credits scene. If you want, there could be two, one to set up a smash bros movie and this one, which I'd have in there just as a joke. Pepper goes back to his office to relax, only to realize Star Fox left the bill for their services. He opens it, practically has a heart attack, and faints.
So... there ya go. What do you guys think? Good? Bad? Would you watch it or burn it? Let me know, please.
Until next time, see ya'll later.

Alternate Costume Ideas
Someone asked me to post the list of Smash Ultimate costume ideas I have saved on my computer, so here they are. Although I’d like to make almost all of them, they take around a week to make, (give or take depending on how complicated they are and how much free time I have) so I only intend to make a small handful, so let me know which ones you’d be most interested in. If I missed any good ones, let me know. Some characters I am not super familiar with. Before you ask though, I think Banjo Kazooie would be easier to make from scratch than trying to rework Duck Hunt to make them. Star Fox 64 aka Lylat Wars Playthrough
Fighter: Fox McCloud
Game: Lylat Wars (aka Star Fox 64), Wii U virtual console (N64). First Released on April 27th 1997.
Fighter Bio.
The son of James McCloud, an expert pilot and leader of the Star Fox team, Fox grew up idolising his Father and wanting to follow in his footsteps. When James and his team were sent to the planet Venom, the planet the evil scientist Andross was banished to in order to investigate reports of bio weapon activities, he was betrayed by a member of his team and went missing. Peppy Hare the only remaining member of Star Fox returned to tell Fox of his Father’s fate. Born on the planet Papetoon but raised on Corneria, Fox had trained at the Cornerian Flight Academy with his best friend Slippy Toad and Bill Grey, showing a gift for flying. Learning of his Father’s disappearance from Peppy, Fox dropped out of the Cornerian Flight Academy with grief, however he was persuaded and mentored by Peppy to become the new leader of the Star Fox team. Fox recruited his friend Slippy, as well as a hotshot pilot, Falco Lombardi to form a new Star Fox team. Sometime after, the team received a distress call from General Pepper of Corneria, informing them Andross had declared war and invaded the Lylat System, reaching Corneria. Team Star Fox went into action taking on Andross’s forces and eventually taking down the Scientist Emperor himself.
There are three different timelines for the Star Fox series, the original SNES era timeline which officially only had one game before the unreleased Star Fox 2 finally saw a release in 2017. The current timeline which arguably has three games (Star Fox Zero, Star Fox Guard and possibly Starlink Battle for Atlas.) and finally the most well-known incarnation, the Starfox 64 timeline which covers four games (64, Adventures, Assault and Command.) The history of Fox in the first paragraph can apply to all three timelines, however following these events the next events differ a lot between each timeline. Since it is the version of Fox represented the most in the Smash Bros series, I will be covering the Star Fox 64 timeline in this entry, however down the line for some alts I will be discussing events in the other two timelines.
Following the defeat of Andross, the Star Fox team underwent some hardships finding that despite their hefty reward for their work they were unable to find many new assignments. During this time, Falco left the Star Fox team looking for more interesting thrills, Peppy was finding himself growing too old to really fly missions anymore and Slippy had always been more interested in mechanics than flying, leaving Fox in a rut. On top of this, their home ship the Great Fox was in a bad state requiring maintenance they couldn’t afford. It was in this period of time that General Pepper contacted the Star Fox Team once again with another mission, this time to a planet known as Sauria, the Dinosaur Planet. This planet was in a bad state due to large parts of it being ripped apart and could explode if something wasn’t done, possibly causing untold destruction to the entire Lylat System. Fox jumped into action.
Fox is a strong leader of his team, often listening to the advice others will give him before making his decisions. Fox is extremely loyal to his teammates doing all he can to protect them in battle, although sometimes this can make him somewhat overbearing which has strained some of his relationships such as with Krystal. Although he’s not at the level of Falco, Fox still can be cocky which results in a strong rivalry between the two. Fox is a mercenary at heart and although he won’t fight for those he deems wrong, he won’t hesitate to charge for his heroics, not to mention point out when he feels he’s not being paid enough. Fox’s flight skill is arguably the best on the team, however this may be due to Falco’s propensity to let his ego get the better of him which Fox tends to be better at keeping in check. Fox can deal with stealthier approaches, but he’ll always prefer to simply blast his way out of trouble where possible, showing skills at air combat, land combat, sea combat and on foot.
Fox has a personal affinity for the Arwing, and although he’s willing to use other craft, in games where there are a variety of craft Fox will always go for a standard Arwing or in one case the successor the Arwing II. Due to this, Fox’s stats in comparison to others tend to be all-around, not being particularly strong in one aspect nor weak in any other aspect. Fox is also the only character in Star Fox Command who’s able to upgrade his ship through the story making it more powerful. Fox can fight on foot well, however he’s better when in vehicles.
Friends: Fox is close friends with Slippy Toad and Falco Lombardi and has a strong respect for Peppy Hare. The four of them form the second incarnation of the Star Fox team and work well together with each member offering a different skill to the team. Slippy with his mechanical knowledge works on the equipment the Star Fox team uses, building a lot of the vehicles such as the Blue Marine and Landmaster as well as analysing the boss’s shields allowing the rest of the team to see how much shielding they have left. Peppy would use his years of experience to advise Fox on what to do against various bosses as well as tricks to use when flying such as the barrel roll. Falco being on par with Fox in flying skill would be effective in fighting many of the smaller enemies whilst Fox focuses on the boss of each stage. Falco’s temperament could cause him to get bored and go off sometimes, but he’d often show up to help Fox when he felt he needed it. Slippy on the other hand often stays the most loyal to Fox, only leaving once in the series when he falls in love and gets engaged to Amanda, although even then he’s usually the first in most paths to return to help Fox. Peppy eventually retires from the Star Fox team, for a time taking a role giving advice from the Great Fox, before being appointed the new General of the Cornerian army after General Pepper retires. General Pepper is very trusting of Star Fox and is willing to pay them for the work they do as well as trusting Fox to take him down when he’s infected and mind controlled by aparoids. A new addition to the team is Krystal, the lone survivor of planet Cerinia who travels to Sauria to answer a distress call but gets captured. Fox saves her and following from this she joins team Star Fox filling Peppy’s role of giving advice on how to defeat bosses, however rather than basing it on years of experience, Krystal uses telepathy powers to find the enemy’s weakness. Krystal and Fox get along very well, however Fox can get too overprotective which has caused issues between them before, which can lead to a lot of different paths in Star Fox Command, with them either getting together again, staying apart or in one case Krystal becoming a bounty hunter on the outskirts of the Lylat System called Kursed who Fox doesn’t even recognise years later.
The final member of the Star Fox team is ROB 64, a robot who can control the Great Fox and was inherited along with it by Fox after being commissioned for his Father. ROB fell into disrepair similar to the Great Fox during the mission to Sauria, however following that he saw the same level of upgrades the Great Fox had during the Aparoid invasion. ROB is the team member who has been with Fox the longest, being the only remaining member of the team with Fox at the start of Star Fox Command. Due to the original Great Fox being destroyed and him being put into the new Great Fox he underwent somewhat of a personality change, becoming more sarcastic towards Fox, but he still did his duties as required and throughout his time on the team got along well with them. One of Fox’s other friends from the Flight Academy is Bill Grey who remained part of the Cornerian army. The two are always pleased to meet and work together when given the chance and Bill will often turn up to give Fox a helping hand as thanks. During his adventures on Sauria Fox makes friends with Tricky, an Earthwalker who is heir to the throne of his tribe who Fox can find annoying but also grows fond of. There are others who join team Star Fox in some cases that are more involved with other members of the team, such as Katt Monroe who was part of Falco’s old gang, Lucy Hare Peppy’s daughter and Amanda, Slippy’s fiancé.
Enemies/Rivals: Fox’s archenemy is Andross, the one who’s responsible for the disappearance of his Father and whose army his team’s first major mission is against. Despite being Fox’s archenemy, in the 64 timeline Andross is only ever the antagonist for two of the games, however his legacy goes on far longer, with most threats Fox faces after being influenced by or the results of Andross’s actions. Fox has also faced many other enemies over the years, with him battling against General Scales on Sauria, Aparoids in Star Fox Assault and finally the Anglar Empire in Star Fox Command, with only the Aparoids being a threat not somehow caused or resulting from Andross’s actions. The Aparoids were likely the largest threat Fox faced as they would take control of other characters and make Fox have to fight them, such as General Pepper and the Cornerian ground forces as well as using Fox’s memory of his Father against him, which if anything just made his drive to destroy them even stronger. Also of note in the Anglar Forces is a specific character, Octoman who often fights Slippy in various routes and sometimes is able to mind control him.
Probably the foe most hated by Fox even more than Andross however is Pigma Dengar, an ex-member of the Star Fox team who betrayed James McCloud and joined Andross due to his greed. Pigma is part of Star Wolf, a group of mercenaries who are seen as the closest in skill to the Star Fox team and led by Wolf O’donnell. Pigma’s piloting skills aren’t on Fox or Falco’s level, however he is cunning and can still put up a fight, often targeting Peppy. Wolf is Fox’s main rival in the series both due to being in the same position as Fox as the leader of Star Wolf as well as being almost on Fox’s level when it comes to piloting skill. Wolf is driven to defeat Fox and seems to have had a fierce rivalry with James McCloud, sometimes mentioning him to Fox, and if he defeats Fox sometimes telling him he doesn’t live up to his Father implying some respect. It has in some cases been suggested that Pigma influenced Wolf with regards to forming his own team and going against Fox, which is supported by Wolf on some occasions allying with Fox after having kicked Pigma out of the team, however he often justifies this by saying it’s because he’s the one who’s going to take Fox out, rather than the threat they’re facing. Leon Powalski is another member of Star Wolf and probably the loyalist to Wolf since he is the only one who remained in all it’s incarnations. He seems to love to torture and kill his enemies and revels in being a deadly assassin, which it seems is why he feels staying with Wolf is the best use of his skills as his missions allow him to do what he loves. When it comes to Fox, Leon isn’t overly interested as he prefers to take on Falco, with them both being similarly close to Fox and Wolf’s level of skill. He has however engaged Fox in dogfights many times. Andrew Oikonny is the nephew of Andross and believes himself therefore a very important person. It seems Andrew is part of Star Wolf simply due to being related to Andross and he is arguably the worst pilot of the team, which is why he tends to go after Slippy who’s often seen as the worst Arwing pilot in the Star Fox team. Despite his bluster and lack of piloting skills, Andrew has shown he is capable of some cunning and tactics. Following him leaving the Star Wolf team he rallies Andross’s remaining forces to stage a rebellion and is able to give the Cornerian army trouble until Star Fox arrives to help them. Andrew still often ends up being just a sideshow to other villains however, despite his ego leading him to believe he’s the successor to Andross. Finally following Pigma being kicked out of the team due to his greed and Andrew seemingly due to Wolf getting sick of his boasting despite his poor pilot skills, as well as perhaps in order to attempt to create his own empire, the Star Wolf team got a new team member called Panther Caroso. Panther is conceited and considers himself a ladies man, flirting often with Krystal during their encounters, however he also seems to be more of a skilled pilot than Andrew and possibly Pigma which is a good thing for the team as there are only three of them remaining when he joins. Due to his constant flirting with Krystal Panther is arguably the only Star Wolf member besides Wolf who has a specific rivalry with Fox, although Fox tends to see him more as an irritation than anything.
Crossovers with other Smash characters: Fox himself has not really appeared in other series which are in Smash Bros, with only one specific appearance from him being cut in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga where he would have appeared to try a Starbeans Coffee that was brewed before having to rush off when contacted by Slippy who’s in trouble. Fox would give the Mario Bros a Gold Ring from his series as payment for the coffee. One other unused cameo is that in Ocarina of Time there exists an Arwing as an unused enemy in the files, which will fly around and shoot at Link. Whilst this is not specifically Fox, the Arwing is most heavily associated with him. It’s believed this was a placeholder for the boss Volvagia due to their similar movements in the air. The Star Fox series has made references to the F-Zero series, to the point it’s possible the two might be connected with them using similar technology such as the G-Diffuser, as well as one of the endings of Star Fox Command having Fox and Falco retire from being mercenaries and becoming G-Zero racers. One other notable appearance in Star Fox Command is Octoman, a member of the Anglar Empire who is possibly the same character as the Octoman in the F-Zero series, with them looking very similar and having the same name. Finally, whilst this is not Fox specifically, there is a character in the F-Zero series called James McCloud who is very clearly a reference to the Star Fox series, although he is a human who wears an outfit similar to the Star Fox uniform and sunglasses similarly to James McCloud as well as piloting an F-Zero racer that looks similar to an Arwing.
Why this game?
It’s rather simple in this case, although I personally like the majority of the games in the series despite their clear flaws, this game is simply the best in the series as well as the most definitive. It is the start of the longest timeline, the Starfox 64 timeline as well as being considered the best version of the main Star Fox story of Fox battling Andross’s forces, with more characters than the SNES timeline’s version of the story and generally considered better gameplay than it and Star Fox Zero. The only issue with the game when it comes to it representing Fox McCloud in Smash Bros is that it’s not a game where you can play as Fox on foot (apart from the multiplayer but that’s another matter) however despite that, this is the game that I feel represents Fox McCloud best.
There is one other matter, as to why I picked the N64 version rather than the 3DS remake. I think the 3DS remake is a really great update of the game, to the point that I really thought they could reboot the franchise with it as a starting point rather than what they ended up doing with Zero being another reboot of Star Fox 64 (which of course was a reboot of the SNES Star Fox) Honestly, I’d played the remake on 3DS a lot, which is why I decided for this playthrough, I wanted to stick with the original version instead. Also, the voices were all redone in the 3DS remake, and whilst I don’t think they’re bad, the original version is so well known as well as a big part of my childhood at this point, which is why it’s what I wanted to go with.
My past with this game.
So this game is another case where I didn’t own it myself for a fair bit in my childhood but would play it at my Cousin’s house. This was probably one of the best games for this sort of thing as it’s not very long and had multiple pathways you could take through it, meaning we could often do a full playthrough during my visit and play the game again another time without it being a repeat of the same game. Due to playing the game with others a lot of the lines became what they are still to this day online which is now usually referred to as memes. We’d love quoting the bosses, Star Fox, Star Wolf and Andross repeatedly, with it being one of the few games I’d played at the time with voice acting beyond grunts and the occasional word. Eventually I got the game myself and played it a lot, although I didn’t complete every pathway for a long time. There was one mission which would always give me trouble when it came to the alternate path to the point that I don’t think I ever managed to play through that pathway until many years later.
I do have a memory of another strange train of thought I had regarding this series where I was mistaken. This was the second Star Fox game I’d played as I owned the first on the SNES. Due to a copyright issue in Europe, the first Star Fox game was called Star Wing in the UK and Star Fox 64 was called Lylat Wars, which personally I actually prefer to Star Fox 64, maybe because of Nostalgia, but really, I just find it a more interesting name. Since Star Fox 64 was the second game I played in the series, and I didn’t really have the concept of remakes in my mind at that time, I believed Lylat Wars was a sequel to Star Wing, and due to the plot of Lylat Wars, it led me to believe for a long time that Star Wing actually starred James McCloud. I’d never gotten very far at all in Star Wing so I believed that that game ended with the character you played as (Fox, who I thought was James) being captured as is the backstory of Lylat Wars. It’s odd as I knew the original Star Fox team was meant to be made up of James, Peppy and Pigma, but that part for some reason I never really thought about. Perhaps when I think about it even though I didn’t know the term, I believed that that was a retcon and James was still meant to be based on the SNES version of Fox for some reason. There were also secrets in the game I never unlocked and found out about in gaming magazines which my friends would say were just fakes as they were sure they’d beaten all that was in the game, things such as Fox wearing sunglasses and being able to play on-foot in multiplayer. To this day I haven’t actually unlocked the on-foot option in multiplayer or Fox with sunglasses, although as I don’t have anyone who’d play Star Fox 64 multiplayer with me it’s not really something I’ve wanted to get anyway at this point. Beyond this, when it comes to my history with the game, I suppose the only other thing is the remake on 3DS which I’ve mentioned earlier. I remember being really excited for it as the short gameplay with multiple routes was ideal for a handheld, and it turned out to be a really great version which I’d personally recommend.
My Smash Playthrough.
This was a fairly short playthrough compared to a fair few others. I cannot remember clearly what routes I played through, although I believe I did the easy route the first time, taking on Meteo, Fichina, Sector X, Titania, Bolse and finally Venom 1. Of these stages I don’t remember having any real issues and as they’re easy I find them fairly fun missions to blast through, with my personal favourite being the battle against Star Wolf on Bolse as it’s harder than the first battle with them, but not to the level of another encounter with them in another route, so it’s not overly frustrating. Titania is probably the most notable stage in this route as it’s the only one where Fox uses another vehicle, being the Landmaster. Of the two Landmaster stages, this one is the one I find more dull, with the boss not being very interesting. My second route I believe was Meteo, Katina, Solar, Macbeth, Bolse and Venom 1 again. This is probably my favourite run overall with the highlights being Katina where you take part in a large-scale battle with Cornerian forces against Venomian fighters, as well as meeting with Bill, with the stage being full of a lot of memorable quotes. Macbeth is another highlight of this route due to it being the best Landmaster stage, with the Forever Train that you gradually have to reach the front of making for an interesting stage element, as well as it’s driver being full of more great quotes. Solar is probably the worst stage in this route, mostly due to the gimmick where flying too low causes the Arwing to take constant damage due to the heat. With that said, Solar does provide an interesting idea and if you’re able to shoot down the various rocks being thrown all over the place you can replenish health very often, so it’s not that bad of a stage.
The final and of course most difficult of the routes is the one I left for last, Sector Y, Aquas, Zoness, Sector Z, Area 6 and finally Venom 2. Sector Y is a fun stage and I’ve always personally liked the Space Armada type of stages in Star Fox, so flying past various giant battleships is a highlight to me, along with the Gundam inspired enemies you battle. Aquas I always used to dislike, but now I feel it’s not really as difficult as I used to believe so I don’t mind it as much. It’s the only stage in the series that uses the Blue Marine, Star Fox’s submarine, which acts fairly similarly to the Arwing, just with torpedoes replacing the bombs and being a key requirement of the stage due to lighting up the way. Zoness I have mixed feelings on. I actually like the stage quite a bit, but the requirement in order to carry on the hardest route and not end up going to Macbeth is one which kept me from fully beating the game for a very long time. There are searchlights that you have to take out and if you miss one, you’ll not be able to go to Sector Z. It’s probably the toughest optional path to get in my experience. Sector Z due to this was a stage that was always enigmatic to me, mostly as I’d seen every other stage, it felt like the only content I’d not seen for a long time. The mission is the only one heavily featuring the Great Fox, with you having to take down missiles that are approaching the ship. It’s definitely a unique mission and it’s fun having the Great Fox appear outside of a cutscene, it can be quite difficult though and I did slip up once or twice. Area 6 is one of my favourite stages in the game, but at the same time the boss is one of my least favourites. The stage is a lot of fun with you fighting your way through the defences set up in Venom airspace, with a lot of great quotes from the enemies as they go from believing you don’t stand a chance to gradually losing their cool as you break through more and more of their defences. It’s a really great adrenaline rush of a stage. Finally, there’s Venom 2 which features a really difficult dogfight with Star Wolf, using their new ships the Wolfen II which interestingly only appear in this battle in the whole series. I’ll go more into this when it comes to the bosses, but the battle with them was probably more frustrating for me than the final boss, with it taking me quite a few attempts to finally take them down.
The bosses are very memorable in this game, definitely helped by a lot of them being voiced and having memorable quotes as you battle them. Due to this, some of the few bosses that don’t have a voice tend to not stick in my mind as much, such as the bio weapon bosses of Solar, Aquas and Titania. Other than that every other boss I’d say is memorable and a lot of fun to fight, with my personal favourite being the Forever Train, especially due to the alternate method of defeating him which involves setting the train to the wrong track, with the boss suddenly realising he can’t stop himself from speeding into the weapons factory resulting in a massive explosion. The boss I mentioned earlier of Area 6 is another one which isn’t voiced, and can be very frustrating to battle due to a lot of the methods of causing damage to it being slightly down to luck with the battle against it sometimes lasting quite a while if you mess up too much. I had quite a difficult time with it and always have done, although it’s definitely not an ridiculously hard fight. Star Wolf’s battle on the hard route at Venom is probably the most difficult in the game as they have very good shielding which prevents your lock on attacks as well as bombs from being able to damage them. They are also a lot more manoeuvrable and harder to hit, with you having to hit them with standard laser shots to be able to do any real damage to them, which when you add on their habit of doing somersaults a lot more than before, it can be difficult to track them down and hit them with constant fire. Wolf or any other members of the team who are gunning for you specifically are relentless on this stage.
One last thing I’d like to note before going on to the final boss is the music. There are a lot of great tracks in this game, which when I played when I was younger I didn’t really appreciate, and it wasn’t until a lot of them were remixed in Star Fox Assault that I realised just how good a lot of them were. My personal favourites are the boss themes, Star Wolf’s theme, Aquas, Area 6 and my absolute favourite is Zoness, which is probably why I like that stage overall, despite the irritating searchlight challenge. I also quite like the victory theme for each stage, it’s actually probably one of my favourite victory themes in videogames with its triumphant atmosphere.
When it comes to Andross, there’s two versions. They both start off similarly, with Andross’s giant head appearing from the shadows laughing, then his hands appear with them being the first things you need to take out. Following this he starts inhaling you which can either be avoided by pulling as hard to the side as you can, or firing a bomb into his mouth which causes it to blow up in there. Once Andross takes enough damage from shots to his eyes, his face will explode, in the easy path this reveals a robotic form for his head, which is frantic but not too difficult to defeat, with the ending of the game revealing it was a decoy and Andross is still alive. The hard path ends with a different result following Andross’s first form, with the reveal of his brain, with his eyeballs attached through some sort of electric field. Unlike the easy path boss, this now becomes an all-range mode boss, with Fox having to target the eyes first and following their destruction, he must target the brain’s medulla. Andross’s brain will teleport if the other parts of the brain are hit, and move around the area. If Fox flies into the Brain’s tentacles, they’ll capture him and start ripping the Arwing apart, losing its wings and damaging it’s shielding. Overall this is definitely the harder of the Andross bosses, but other than some annoyances with the brain’s movements and managing to hit it, he’s not the hardest boss in the game. It appears based on other bosses Andross is responsible for such as the various bio-weapons that this isn’t a robotic form but is actually what Andross’s physical form has become, so with his destruction Andross is truly dead it would seem, which is the canon ending for the game. With his last breath Andross tells Fox he’s going to take him down with him, but then Fox hears a voice. This part of the game is probably one of the most iconic in gaming and I always enjoy playing through it, with James McCloud telling Fox not to give up and leading him through the exploding base. Fox reaches the surface victorious, with James seeming to have disappeared, leaving it unclear if it was his ghost, he’s actually alive or Fox simply imagined him. Following this comes the ending sequence, with a great music track and many nice shots of the Great Fox travelling back to and arriving at Corneria, then the team running as the sun sets and the Great Fox rises in the background before flying off. The final shot of the game is of the bill owed to the Star Fox Team by the Conerian Army, with General Pepper commenting on the amount, which changes based on your performance. Overall it was a blast to play through this, and because of how this game works it’s one I always have an probably always will come back to do a playthrough of from time to time.
Specific aspects about the game relating to Fox in Smash.
When it comes to Fox’s portrayal in the Super Smash Bros series, it’s important to note that he was one of the original roster who had a moveset entirely invented for him, since he had made no playable appearance outside of his vehicles at the time, except for in Lylat Wars multiplayer. In Lylat Wars Multiplayer he carries a large over the shoulder laser cannon or rocket launcher of some kind and controls sort of like the Landmaster, so there really wasn’t much to draw from. A fair few of Fox’s moves did draw upon aspects of the Star Fox series however, with his reflector playing a similar role to the Arwing’s barrel roll, which can deflect shots taken at it. Fox’s blaster is drawn from artwork for Star Fox 64 where Fox holds one, although the only shot of a character holding one in-game is James McCloud during the backstory told in the introduction of the game. Fox’s other moves aren’t really based on anything from the Star Fox series and are original to Super Smash Bros. When it comes to Final Smashes Fox has had throughout the series, this is probably the closest Fox has to any moves that are based upon Star Fox 64, with his original Final Smash calling a Landmaster, which can shoot and roll similarly to in the series. His most recent Final Smash, Team Star Fox, has Fox call in his wing mates and a targeting reticule will appear before him with three Arwings flying at it. If an enemy gets hit by it, Fox will jump into his own Arwing and tell his group to open fire, with all four Arwings firing upon the foe with double green lasers. Falco shares this Final Smash, but Fox’s version has the team firing with synchronisation, which reflects his status as the team leader. What is important to note regarding Star Fox 64 however, are the designs of the vehicles used in these Final Smashes. The Landmaster’s design in its appearances as a Final Smash is not the design it has in Star Fox 64, but the design it used in Star Fox Assault, which is a lot more advanced looking than the original. The Arwing’s appearance in Fox’s Final Smash is also not the one from Star Fox 64, although it is similar, but it is in fact the Arwing from Star Fox Zero. Finally Fox’s only appearances on-foot have him with a fairly different design in both cases to the ones he uses in Super Smash Bros, and in the case of Star Fox Adventures have him fighting with Krystal’s Staff rather than his blaster and other gear. I guess all that can really be said in conclusion here is that there’s not really a setup of any kind that fits closely with Fox’s portrayal in Super Smash Bros in Lylat Wars.

Nexus of Lylat (Chapter 1)
Hello readers! This is a Star Fox fanfic I made back in 2015, and it’s being reposted on Tumblr! Why? Because I wanted to experiment with something on here, namely linking chapters, so we’ll see how it goes.
If you’ve already read it on fanfiction.net, found here, then you likely know how the plot unfolds. However, I’ve rearranged it a bit, since I’m also practicing length on Tumblr. The short of it: this starts and ends differently than it appears on FFN, but has the same content.
But if you’re new to the story, then this is all fresh, so that works well too! This helps if you’re reading on here instead of FFN, since you’ll have the fresh approach to the word vomit. Yes, lots of words, reading, yikes.
Picking up from the prologues set before this, this story details adventures following the Star Fox team after the game, Star Fox: Assault. I chose that because it felt like it best expanded on the Star Fox world beyond the Lylat Wars era (Star Fox, Star Fox 64, & Star Fox Zero).
Ok, I really hope that’s enough set-up to explain some things. Thank you for your patience. Let’s get into the journey with Fox and his friends!
[1 year after Aparoid Invasion; Present]
Stepping through a lot of houses, a lone red fox made his way to one nearest to the lake. He sighed and lightly touched the rusted door. Gripping it, he dragged it open, and slowly stepped inside.
The furniture inside was quite dusty. Walking to a small table, he started at the door’s remote operator, and picked it up. Clicking on the button two times, he flipped it over and studied the worn battery pack.
Placing the remote back down, he slowly made his way over to the stairs, stepping carefully as each step creaked beneath his weight. He made his way upstairs, gazing down the worn hall. Streaks of sunlight broke through the windows without curtains, lighting up the otherwise dim hallway.
Making his way to the end, the vulpine pushed open the old green door, staring into a room with faded blue wallpaper. At its heart was a tarnished bronze crib, practically empty save for the bedding itself.
A beeping noise filled the otherwise silent room, and he reached up to his headset, clicking on the communicator. “This is Fox,” he responded. “Go ahead, ROB.”
“Fox,” a robotic voice spoke over the communications channel, “there has been a reported crash of two unidentified ships within Corneria City. Your presence is requested as soon as possible; the rest of the Star Fox team was already dispatched.”
“Any reason why we’re being called in?”
“The two ships bear a striking resemblance to the Arwings,” reported ROB. “Though they have specific modifications as well.”
“Got it. I’m on my way over.”
His hand dropped from the headset. With one last gaze around the baby’s room, Fox turned back and made his way out of the house and to his Arwing, parked just a short distance outside of the lot.
(Fox is mourning his parents by himself when ROB 64 calls him and requests his return to the city, as the rest of his team is investigating a recent crash involving the Robins.)
[Corneria City, Present Day, 16:24]
Flying above the city skyscrapers, Fox glanced out of his fighter as he soared around a few buildings. Two cubs and presumably their mother happened to turn his way, and waved from their window as he passed a tall office building. Fox smirked and waved back, but let his hand drop as he passed it, noticing a faint billow of smoke. Following it to a more open portion of the city, Fox sighted three parked Arwings along a park patch, with a crowd of citizens around two wrecked ships.
Landing his Arwing next to his teammates’ fighters, Fox climbed out and studied the purple and black ships as he approached. They were designed similarly to the Arwings, though with sharper wings and overall frame…from what remained. The cockpit windows were shattered open.
“LOOK! THERE’S FOX MCCLOUD HIMSELF!”
Turning, Fox watched a heavy number of citizens push against barricades and Cornerian soldiers, fighting to meet the ace pilot. Reporters turned on cameras and tried to position themselves in shots that caught Fox walking forward in the background. He chuckled and shook his head, though his ears flicked back and his shoulders stiffened.
“Hey Fox, over here!” A vibrant green toad waved him over, standing near the crash along with an amused blue bird.
“Slippy, Falco, hey.” Fox smiled and strode over to his teammates. “Reporters are everywhere, huh?”
“Reporters, fans, you name it!”
“Yikes. Anyway, sorry I’m late.”
“Well, you took your sweet time to get your butt over here,” remarked Falco, resting his wing on Fox’s shoulder. “All good?”
“For now. You know how it is.”
Nodding silently, Falco patted his shoulder as they approached the wreckage. Ahead was a gray and white rabbit in a long trench coat. He typed on a touchpad as he observed the ships, not noticing the others bring Fox over. The rabbit bent over and searched the cockpit of one fighter.
“Peppy?” The rabbit jolted up at Fox’s voice, banging his head on the side of the ship. “Ah…sorry about that.”
“That’s all right, Fox.” Peppy pulled himself out and rubbed his head between his long ears. “Are you doing ok?”
“At the moment. What about you, Peppy? What are you doing back out?”
“Ah, I can’t keep myself cooped up anymore, or I’ll lose my mind with just ROB around.” Peppy smirked. “You youngsters aren’t getting all of the glory anymore.”
“Crazy old fool,” Fox heard Falco mutter under his breath. He shot his ace pilot a glare, who shrugged to him.
“Well, if you can handle, good to have you back out and about.” Fox nodded, but then glanced around, looking around the area for a moment. “Where’s Krystal?”
“Back at the Great Fox, had something else to take care of,” murmured Falco as he folded his arms. “Someone was stopping by just as she was leaving, I think.”
“Oh. So, what’s going on here?” Fox pointed at the ships. “ROB summoned me over here, but he didn’t exactly provide details. Did Pepper need us?”
“Yeah. Well, Bill spotted the wreckage and had to take off, so he had Pepper request us over,” explained Slippy as he adjusted his cap. “It’s weird, because I’m trying to check over the hardware behind their fighters, but anything that’s similar to the Arwings is coming up as identical matches, including the Gravity Diffusion system, the NTD-FX1 Plasma engines, and Smart Bomber launchers.”
“But…?”
“Well, from a physical overview, I’m noticing certain differences in the keyboard setups, default laser cannon selection, obvious design deviations, and separate shielding that they can activate without rolling.” He heavily exhaled. “However, when we run full systems diagnostics and cross examinations, the technology is reported to not exist, anywhere. It’s like they have customized components.”
“Wow,” chuckled Falco. “You actually remembered to breathe this time.”
“Hey, someone has to assess and report everything.” Slippy placed his hands on his hips and held his head up. “Try not to be too jealous, Falco.”
“Right, jealous of the team nerd, ok.” Falco huffed and rolled his eyes, smirking at Slippy’s annoyed expression.
“Damage diagnostics?”
“Collision with one another, mostly,” surmised Peppy. “Though, there appears to be thin laser damage on their keyboards and in the cockpits, so I’m imagining that someone else was firing on them. We’ll need to make further inspections later to double check on that. Took some photos, so we’ll be able to bring it up back on the Great Fox.”
“And what about the pilots?”
“Both were found unconscious, but alive.” Peppy rubbed under his chin. “Now that we’re going over them, there’s something…well, several things that are pretty peculiar about the two.”
“Go on.”
“I think it would be better to show you. Falco?”
“Right this way, Fox.”
Following Falco away from the downed fighters, the avian guided him to medical hovercrafts that were parked a few feet away. Three canine paramedics checked on the patients, typing in notes as the pilots approached. Recognizing the duo, the three nodded and stepped aside as Fox and Falco strolled up.

World of Nintendo 4″ Fox Mcloud Review
Note: What follows is the first review I ever wrote for this blog, unedited, in all its amateur glory!
We need your help, Star Fox! Andross has declared war!
Ah, Nintendo, the video game giant I have the softest spot for. But with such a rich history of games, the company has always been very secure on their IP. Nintendo games remain on Nintendo consoles, with very few PC typing games in the 1990s, and a few TV shows that died out long ago. But what about merchandising? It’s where the real money from the game is made! Unfortunately the company has been very secure on that too, up until recently when president Tatsumi Kimishima announced that the company needs to shift focus from games to all types of media, and expand their IP. The result is a deal with Universal Studios, an Animated Movie studio, and Jakks Pacific’s fantastic line-up of Nintendo toys covering all their hit games. This line covers everything Nintendo, from Animal Crossing to Metroid.
Star Fox 64 is a classic rail-shooter, with lovable characters, solid gameplay, and a unique charm that only a Star Fox game can accomplish. The game screamed for a TV Show, comics, and toys, but ultimately stayed in the realm of games. Toy-Site tried it once in 2000 with a proposed Fox figure and future Star Fox line-up, but it was ultimately cancelled before release. But Jakks Pacific has re-taken the throne to crank out Star Fox figures with the World Of Nintendo line-up. (The entire team is nearly out!) How does the anthropomorphic pilot hold up as plastic? Let’s find out!
Fox Mcloud comes with 13 points of articulation, a colorful paint job, and an accessory. He’s based off his appearance from Star Fox 64 3D, which I feel was the best possible option. It’s his most iconic N64 look, but without the blocky graphics. It’s colorful and also can represent his SNES look or Smash Brothers look as it doesn’t fully dedicate himself to N64 visuals. It’s classic yet updated to a modern design. I really appreciate that the design was kept to the chunky form as it’s timeless, versus Star Fox’s Zero’s new realistic look. But the figure isn’t all basic. Upon close inspection the figure has incredible detail.
The paint aps are fantastic. There isn’t a splotch of paint messed up anywhere on the figure! He even has his nicely printed “FOX” nametag. The quality on the paint is so high quality I’d say it looks like a sample you’d see at Toy Fair and say “Man, I wish the finished product would look like that!” (see: Neca’s TF2 line. But that’s another review...)
As a matter of fact, the prototype on the back looks worse! His undershirt is all-green on the mock-up, yet painted accurately in black in the final figure. This was a toy no doubt done by fans who wanted the highest quality product out there, to ensure such final accuracy. The detail is insane!
The quality is some of the best I’ve seen on a normal retail figure in some time. I really appreciate that each ridge into his headgear is sculpted. Fox’s legs, whether they’re robotic or just some heavy duty boots, are a very detailed sculpt, with a grey streamlined finish. It’s detail makes it pop out from the rest of the figure, which is done on purpose to replicate the game’s silver striking boots.
in regards to Articulation, the figure has 13 points of movement, with a nice bonus tail-joint. This is just a great bonus I wasn’t expecting, especially in a world of cheap Hasbro and Mattel figures where all we get is 5 POA. There are however, drawbacks. His legs do not allow a sitting position, so he cannot sit in the ship cockpit he is destined for. So if you want to display Fox in a custom Arwing or re-used Star Wars cockpit, it ain’t happening. Ball Jointed articulation is wonderful, but I do feel the Star Fox figures should have legs that allow them to sit. Maybe I was too just hopeful for a giant Arwing for the figures, but it still would have been nice. But Fox here is clearly meant for some ground combat.
to the left, CZ-4 from Star Wars, and to the right a Pop Vinyl Robin.
Fox measures up to 4″, so he’s a tad taller than the average Pop Vinyl and a 3.75″ Star Wars figure. He’s big and bulky though, so it makes him looks much bigger and more impressive. His proportions are short which are accurate to Fox. He’ll fit in any shelf and make it stand out.
Fox also came with a secret “Mystery item”, a fun gimmick for the WoN lineup. Now, if the box was based off the Supply Crate ROB sends you, it would have been a fantastic little touch, but I’m not complaining because what was inside was something I did not see coming.....a miniature Arwing! I was totally expecting a Smart Bomb or Gold Ring, but this? This is an awesome pack-in. It’s like a Micro Machine! It’s unique and feels like a 2nd item I would have bought alone, so it makes the figure even more worthwhile of purchase.
Even after defeating Andross Fox could not handle the all powerful Tricky...
Final verdict? 64/64. Fox Mcloud is beautifully done with phenomenal paint aps and accuracy, simplistic yet striking design, and average articulation that looks amazing compared to more modern toys. The Arwing is a rad bonus too!
Star Fox doesn’t have a alot of available merchandise, so I highly recommend picking this up. It should be noted that this figure is in high demand, and rare at the time of writing this. I checked many Walgreens (best stocker of Nintendo product) and Targets yet I had to resort to Ebay. Fox runs for $15-25, and is well worth every penny.
Next up is Falco! Wait, he’s rare too?! Dang, alright time to pray Slippy becomes a peg warmer. Just kidding, he’ll be rare too. Seriously though, if you see any Star Fox figures from this line, buy them while you can and support this IP. I’d love Jakks to make more characters. Peppy is on the way, but could you imagine all of Star Wolf? A large scale Andross? Or even Krystal or Tricky? There’s a long line-up of characters to make, and I’m ready to continue pursuing these high quality figures. Thank you so much Jakks Pacific!
Bonus Photography below!
The Pikmin are no match for Fox, Captain Olimar!
I’ve been waiting for you Star Fox!
a challenger approaches!
That concludes the first review for Fox Trot! Thank you for reading!

Replaying Assault, part 5 (final thoughts)
See you, evil space hag. And good riddance, so I don’t have to play those levels again.
Mission 9, the Aparoid City, is a boring drag. It looks beautiful, I won’t deny that. But the problem is we’ve seen everything this game has to offer on-foot at this point, so it feels like a longer, drawn out version of Sauria.
What could have helped it? Well, you start by hunting down four… what is it? Hatchers? Why not change the pace for the semi-final, and allow you to take control of the other pilots? Krystal could have taken one on-foot, Slippy could take one in the tank, Falco takes one in the Arwing, and then finally Fox takes the last one.
I dunno, it just felt… really boring. And that’s Assault’s big problem, the “hunt down X amount of enemies” can get boring for people if they’re playing it in one sitting. I played this in separate sittings, but I still found this level to be tiresome.
Oh, and yes, I might as well discuss… the Peppy sacrifice scene.
It’s really kind of moot, since he already risked his ass in Corneria, which could have killed him. I think instead, if he went “man there’s no way to break that barrier, I’m sorry Fox, I’m ruining your dad’s hard work” then forced the Great Fox to set course with the barrier, while Peppy and ROB64 escape, maybe it’d be less, uh, controversial?
… Or maybe, just not have Peppy do any of that, and have the level proceed as normal.
Also, I felt it made the entirety of the Aparoid City mission kind of pointless. You destroyed all the hatchers, but it’s not enough, so we gotta have a big sacrifice scene. It’s not a bad moment, in fact, it’s kind of emotional for the team, but I do think that someone should have proofread this story.
So after that, we have a mission takes place entirely in the Arwing… and like the “easy” Venom route in 64, it fucking throws everything at you. It’s more entertaining than the last level, but everything is so fast-paced, which is the same problem I found in Meteo actually. Slow it down, Assault, the GameCube may run things at a faster rate than the N64, but I’d like to see the enemies I’m shooting!
Star Wolf is also here to help, but really, the most they do is just keep enemy Aparoids away from you at the final stretch, so you can tail the Queen.
So, we finally have the Aparoid Queen, who tries to trick Fox with visions of all who have fallen (though General Pepper lived, and Peppy’s fate is uncertain at this point) which includes James McCloud.
Everyone knows James is dead, and wouldn’t say to give up, so the ruse falls apart instantly when the Aparoid Queen tries to use his voice. I’m guessing the memories of all of those characters came from Pigma…? Or The Aparoid Queen is reading Fox’s mind? I really have no clue.
The boss fight with her is cool, although really easy because you can pick up Hyper Lasers by shooting down enemies that are flying around. Obviously though, she’s not finished, and has a second phase (just like Andross and the Anglar Emperor).
The second phase, after having the self-destruct sequence thrown in her, is… also really easy. I’m really not sure if it’s just the difficulty I’m playing on (god forbid I go through this clusterfuck of a level on Gold), but I’m pretty certain you can one-cycle the first half of her second phase if you’re fast enough with Hyper Lasers.
The next half of the phase, just avoid everything she flings at you, and fire at her. That’s it. That was the final boss. I only died a handful of times because of how fast everything moves, and if you keep Falco safe, he’ll give you health, so it shouldn’t be an issue if you do this and keep the Hyper Lasers.
Like, Andross wasn’t too hard either in 64 either, if you have Hyper Lasers. The robot form in the “easy” route is pathetic, while the brain one, as long as you avoid the tendrils and have well-timed U-turns, isn’t too hard.
But this is years after 64, and considering the hell you went through before, I’d expect a bit more of a challenge, rather than just “avoid things and shoot to win”.
… Would it be fair to say that, considering what a friend of mine said, that the Anglar Emperor buts up a better fight than both 64!Andross and the Aparoid Queen? Haven’t played Command, but people say the Emperor is a bitch to fight compared to those two.
I still like the Aparoid Queen very much as a villain. She came closer to victory than anyone else, like I said before. I love her design too, as well as her voice. I just wish it was a bit more.
And… that’s the end. The Queen was trying to take souls, but you have to be born with one, is what Fox says. What, are you saying you’re soulless? C’mon Fox, don’t be hard on yourself.
They did it, yaaaay, let’s all go out for some frosty, chocolate milkshakes. Roll the credits.
The entire cast is shown off as well, minus Andrew, Pigma, Tricky, and the Aparoid Queen. I guess they aren’t important enough, or because they didn’t actually help Star Fox in any important way? Hell if I know.
It also shows the damage done to each planet, the ones taking the most were Corneria, Sauria, and the Aparoid Homeworld I believe. It’s a nice touch, one I wish was done more often!
Theeeen after all of that, it turns out Peppy and ROB 64 escaped in a pod, making the “big sacrifice moment” pointless.
“GEE FOX, IS THAT WHY YOU WERE SO CALM”
Bruh, he wasn’t calm at all when Peppy tried to kill himself. He also didn’t once say “Peppy will be fine, I know him, he’ll make it out of there”, Fox was just silent. No mention of what happened to Star Wolf, General Pepper, or Andrew Oikonny. Power of friendship, the end, for real now.
Okay, so… what do I really think of this game, my nitpicks aside? Do I think it’s actually a good Star Fox game? Or do I still have the opinion on it I always did, where I just find it boring?
Well… I don’t know what my opinion is, really. I find it hard to form one, and the one I predicted I would have is “in the middle”.
I guess, that ends up being my verdict after all. It’s not terrible, it’s not perfect, it’s just… in the middle. It’s got great qualities, and bad ones. Though, I think my opinion is slightly better now. I definitely put this next to Adventures (which back then, I would have said I liked more than Assault), and probably place it above Zero, just for it being creative with the storyline along with some of the gameplay.
I’m not a professional game designer or some shit, so the only complaints I have are the enemy clutters, and on-rails sections been too fast.
Honestly, this reminds me of another game, where it changed things up a little bit, had a story that shifted between silly and rather dark, had a handful of plot holes, and was probably made for multiplayer more than single player…
I guess, the most fair comparison is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Both games have good moments, really irritating moments, not an awful story, but one that definitely had plot holes, multiple gameplay styles… and a final boss that had a very easy “second phase”.
I also disliked both games when I first played them, because I preferred their predecessors, and neither games went uphill from here.
What came after Sonic Adventure 2? Heroes, which isn’t too bad, some people really liked it… but then, Shadow the Hedgehog happened.
In Star Fox’s case? Command happened, and I think that was one of the big blows against Assault, and the whole series. Star Fox could have gone uphill from Assault. Heck, fish villains as antagonists had a lot of potential, as well as bringing back the branched paths, and multiple starfighters.
Buuuut between making it an early DS game, writing that mess of a storyline, and having even more repetitive gameplay, Command ended up putting the series in a coma. Years ago, I would have blamed Assault for this too, but that wasn’t the case-- it was all just shitty decision making at Nintendo. (things that they still do)
I definitely think Assault’s multiplayer leaked too much into single player, which was the big thing for everyone. It’s a shame that Nintendo decided against online, because this game would have been a hit otherwise, and they would try to experiment more with that.
Overall, I had fun with about… parts of the game? I liked Fortuna, Sargasso, Fichina, and Corneria. But I didn’t like the Star Wolf fight, Sauria, and the Aparoid Homeworld.
That’s it. It’s an alright game. Some people will love it, some will be bored by it. I can’t really say yes or no when recommending it, because this is a mixed bag here. It’s not the worst, but it ain’t the best.
… I am gonna try stuff on Silver difficulty though, maybe. Just to unlock stuff maybe, and see the differences.
#Jelli plays vidya#Star Fox#I'm not good at analyzing every bit of gameplay and this was all just something to experience a second time#don't expect some professional opinion#... just dumb comparisons maybe

R.O.B. background
“R.O.B. was originally advertised as a toy in order to get toy stores to alleviate retail fears following the North American video game crash of 1983. R.O.B. was compatible with two games, Gyromite and Stack-Up, although the player did not necessarily need R.O.B. to play the games. Despite this, he still remained a key figure in Nintendo's attempt to keep the video game industry alive. Although R.O.B.'s time in the spotlight was brief, he nevertheless established a legacy. He was named the fifth in GameSpy's "25 Smartest Moments in Gaming" due to his impact in reviving the video game industry and helping Nintendo establish a major presence in the American video game market. Conversely, ScrewAttack called R.O.B. the fifth worst game peripheral ever, citing that he only moved up, down and side to side, was noisy and slow, was nearly impossible to put together by oneself and specifically noted the lack of games that could be played with him. Despite only appearing as a game peripheral, R.O.B. has made many appearances in games, either by merely making a cameo or appearing as a full-fledged character. His earliest in-game cameo was in Kirby's Dream Land 3, where there is a stage in which Kirby must complete puzzles in various rooms to collect pieces of R.O.B. for Professor Hector, R.O.B.'s creator in Gyromite, so that R.O.B. can be rebuilt. R.O.B.'s head appears as treasure in Pikmin 2 and is known as the "Remembered Old Buddy". Similarly to how his head is a collectable treasure, R.O.B.'s status as a collectable is referenced in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, where he makes a cameo in his entirety in the Curiosity Shop, although he can only be seen to the right of the counter when looking from the backroom and he cannot be purchased. Robotic cranes designed in R.O.B.'s image can be seen in the F-Zero GX course Port Town Aero Dive, which can also be seen in the Brawl stage of the same name. Mario Kart DS notably marked the first time that R.O.B. made the transition into being a full-fledged character, as he appeared as an unlockable driver complete with his own signature karts, one of which is resembles his stand for Stack-Up. The Star Fox series in particular has been tied with R.O.B. closer than any other Nintendo series. ROB 64 references R.O.B. both in name and as a robotic assistant, due to his status as the pilot of the Great Fox, the Star Fox team's battleship and base of operations. R.O.B. himself also appears as a boss in the Star Fox-based levels in 9-Volt's stage in WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Lastly, Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard both feature robots that are almost identical to R.O.B. Zero features Direct-i, who is tethered to the Gyrowing and functions similarly to ROB 64 and R.O.B. himself by being an assistant to the player, courtesy of its ability to hack into computer terminals and its ability to fire lasers from its eyes. Conversely, Guard features the A.T.K. Unit, which is one of the "combat class" robots in the game that threaten the player's mining facilities.” Thanks to ssb wiki for the information displayed above.

“I’m sure you did, and I’m sorry that we had to get out of the Lylat System like that.” I said and apologized to Zizzi about having to leave the Star Fox 64 timeline. “Still, I cannot believe that you, our Time Hero would be afraid of Andross in that time period. That was beyond reckless to be paralyzed with fear.” Elder Kai scolded me.
“Take it easy on him! He was a kid back then. He told me everything during our chit-chats one time.” Chronoa said defending the Time Hero. “Still, you helping Zizzi and Fox stop him, and what you did was brave to face your fears.” Xeno Trunks said to me. “Yeah, thanks." I said as we watched the scroll see the Star Fox team made it to Corneria as the four of them approach General Pepper.
“Star Fox, we are in your debt.” General Pepper spoke for them saving the Lylat System. “I would be honored to have you as part of the Cornerian Army.” He offered. “Oh no, sir. We prefer doing things our own way.” Fox said declining the Cornerian General’s offer. He gets a transmission from ROB 64 on his headset. “Great Fox is ready to go.” ROB 64 said. “It’s time for us to go now.” Fox said. “Star Fox, move out!” He shouted as Fox and his friends leave with the Great Fox.
“Star Fox had ended the Lylat Wars, Andross is dead, but thing is, he will be back, in another time, and Falco may leave the team after that.” I spoke to the group. “I see..." Xeno Trunks stated. "Falco does have some unfinished business to talk care of with Katt since he used to lead a gang." Chronoa stated as Tokitoki tilted his head.
"As for Star Wolf, Pigma and Andrew will be kicked out soon after the Lylat Wars... I'll fix the history of this scroll since Fu and Towa meddled with the Lylat Wars' history." Chronoa said.

Zizzi would shake her head gently as she had been teleported on a mission. This a bit different for her as it seems like she was a large ship by the looks of it. She made over a window as she was looking out into space. "Woah." She put her hands on the window as she was taking in everything. (Star Fox)
The large ship that Zizzi was in is the Great Fox, a flagship, space carrier and the mobile headquarters for the mercenaries-for-hire, the Star Fox Team. Slippy Toad, the team's mechanic was heading over to the bridge when he saw Zizzi. "AAHH!!"
"Slippy, what is it?" Fox shouted as he, Falco Lombardi, and Peppy Hare came to the bridge. "What in the?" Peppy Hare spoke. "Hey! Who let you in the Great Fox?" Falco Lombardi asked seeing Zizzi.
"Who are you? State your business on the Great Fox." Fox asked crossing his arms.

On the edge of the Lylat system, within a large debris field from a recent Ship battle, a lone glowing green figure floats in the emptiness of space as a large cruiser approaches the former battle zone
@paragonsoflight
Star Fox, a team of mercenaries who time and time saved the Lylat System were off in the galaxy in their mothership, the Great Fox. They were figuring out which planet to go to next, as ROB 64 sees green figure.
“Jeez Louise! What is that?” Falco said looking at the green figure. “Looks like someone lost their ship.” Slippy spoke. “Whatever the case, we should approach with caution.” Peppy said.
“Green figure located. Opening communication channel.” ROB 64 spoke. “This is Star Fox. Come in.” Fox McCloud, the leader spoke.

"Again, thank you for your help." Krystal spoke. "It's time to go, Zizzi." Chronoa said to Zizzi in her earpiece. "Oh, and uh, your CloudRunner friend said hi when we were in Dragon Rock." Fox spoke to Krystal.
"Welcome to Team Star Fox." ROB 64 welcomed to Krystal. "Zizzi, it's time to go." Chronoa said to Zizzi in her earpiece. "Zizzi, we'll see ya." Slippy waved and so did Peppy and Falco.

As Fox returned to the Great Fox, the ship was leaving the orbit of Dinosaur Planet. "We did it, Fox!" Peppy spoke. "Dinosaur Planet is saved!" Slippy said slapping some skin with Fox, high-fiving him. "Andross has been defeated once again." Peppy said. "You all did a great job. And so did Zizzi for helping us out." Fox said to his team and Zizzi.
General Pepper then contacts the Star Fox Team. "General Pepper here. Good work, Star Fox Team. I received a message from the King and Queen EarthWalker thanking you all for saving their world. Oh, and Tricky says "Hi"." He said. "I was, however, very surprised to hear that Andross was still alive."
"Not as much as we were." Slippy spoke to Pepper.

As Fox fired his Arwing's Single Laser along with Zizzi's explosive Ki Blasts at Andross' brain, he started to shout in pain as the 6 Krazoa Spirits he used to revive himself were released, and he started to explode. THIS time, Andross would stay dead.
Both Fox and Falco manage to escape from the blast radius as the Ace Pilot of Star Fox returns to the Great Fox. Fox was thinking of returning to the Great Fox, but shook his head.
"C'mon Zizzi." Fox said to Zizzi as he turned his Arwing around to see Sauria, the Dinosaur Planet return to how it was before as the Krazoa Spirits as well sas DarkIce Mines, CloudRunner Fortress, Dragon Rock and the Walled City return to the planet's surface.
He then flew down to the Krazoa Palace where the rain stopped, and all of the SharpClaw soldiers were cheering for Fox and Zizzi, since they were now free from General Scales' tyranny and that Andross was gone. One of them was even holding his belt. "Guess they didn't enjoy working for Scales." Fox stated as he returned to the Great Fox where Peppy, Slippy and ROB 64 were waiting.

Slippy gave Zizzi a high-five as Fox spoke with General Pepper. "It seems that Andross discovered the power of the Krazoa, and by trapping Krystal, who had the ability to channel this power, he was able to use this energy to revive himself." He said on how Andross resurrect himself.
"At least this time we'll see the last of him..." General Pepper spoke about Andross. "I'm transferring your fee as we speak. Pepper out." He said ending his communication. Slippy whoops with glee. "We can finally repair the Great Fox." Peppy said. "And I really need some oil. These joints are not what they used to be." ROB 64 said as he put his arm back in place.
"And I can't wait to get back with the Star Fox team." Falco said taking off his shades and entered the bridge. "Hey guys. You don't mind if I hang with you again, do ya?" He asked to the group. "Sure Falco. It's great to have you back." Fox said as Falco smiled. "The Star Fox team is back together again." Slippy said as the same ship that took Prince Tricky to Ice Mountain flew around the Great Fox.
