I have a random idea for some sagau crack loosely based on my dynamic with my friend so Im giving it to you because I have been enjoying your sagau language stuff :D
Imagine there are two readers that are two different people. Like, not as in clones they are just two separate people that are rlly good friends on earth. They both really like genshin and play the game, and they both have self aware teyvat citizens. Reader 1 is a whale. They invest a l o t of money on the game, have all the characters, and all the characters have five star weapons. They are like the usual sagau reader you see. They have used up so much money on getting all of the characters, and I mean A L L of them, best weapons, constellations and put a lot of care into it. The place where they really get to show off is their knowledge and love for the lore, and are really invested into it and read all of the artifact descriptions and books. They know about primordial one, the four shining shades, random useless facts about items and often rant to reader 2 about their theories. Their quest bar is always empty because they did them to check out the lore of the game, and are always searching for more lore. They basically play everyday and are always reacting and talking to the characters out loud, unaware that they can hear them.
Meanwhile, Reader 2 is a f2p who is only interested in the archon quest lore and the lore of their fav characters. Because they are f2p, their options are limited so there is some blatant favoritism. They choose their fav character to save up for, and then pull for them. After they get the character they want, they will no longer pull and save up from there. Because of this, they only have like 5 five stars and only have zero five star weapon. Their favourite character is their main(*cough* wanderer *cough*), and unlike reader 1 who uses all of their characters regularly, reader 2 sticks to this character for most of their gameplay unless they need to use someone else. However, reader 2 takes almost an entire month to finish building a character, because they go overboard with the artifact stats. You would expect to normally have a 50 180 crit ratio, but reader 2’s dps characters always, and I mean ALWAYS have 50 200 crit ratio or more. Like, their main (it doesnt have to be wanderer but Im putting him here anyways) has 70 and 200 crit ratio, is crowned, full 4 pc best in slot, and is even crowned and faruzan only needs like 200 er but reader 2 gave them 300. (Im totally not putting this here because this is what I did/j) Reader 2 is also the type to never speak while gaming, so the first time they spoke everyone turned it into a national holiday to be celebrated. They also play a lot less than player 1. Player 1 plays everyday while player 2 plays for a month straight and then takes a long break to wait for the content to pile up.
So these two gremlin besties are always speaking with each other, and are always on coop. Whenever player 1 needs help making team comps or building characters, they just ask player 2 for help. And whenever player 2 needs help understanding the lore of the game, they ask player 1. But all I can think abt is the first time they cooped. Imagine player 1 was using childe and then when the coop starts, both childe and wanderer are very confused as to wtf is going on. Like, childe is confused because he sensed a strange aura coming form them like whenever someone gets controlled by reader 1, and wanderer is confused because reader 2 seemed so excited that they were talking, but its just childe? Reader 2 always skips childe’s banners.
Thats it lol, hope this wasnt too long.
Not long at all! Or more like, I like long asks so feel free to share! :D
IM SO SORRY ITS LIKE MONTHS LATER TO GET TO YOU I PROMISE I LOVE UR STUFF AND AM SUPER EXCITED TO SEE IT,
IM JUST SLOW AND GOOFY 😭😭
Tumblr media
Said friends in genshin like: ^^^
this kinda inspires me/reminds me of @mists-reading-nook soldier/poet/king post, you should check xe stuff!! Gave me brainrot to this day tbh, like im imaging how that “3rd King style of worship” would look like even now lmao ive been down bad 😭
Sun: 2 Readers! (as desc. above), (you/they/them)
Orbit: Headcanons-ish
Stars: wanderer/childe, mentions of others i forgot to focus on any one character or nation :/
Comets & Meteors: Content Warnings: mild cussing language, & Trigger Warnings: none known.
Please comment if I missed any. /gen
dual symbolism everywhere, obv you both thought “for the twins” but it just kept getting out of hand the more the game updated over the months lol
like shrines/temples/churches showing up more often in new countries/areas and always identifying the same 2 gods
obv the for-the-lore player picked up on it first, and by the time the trickle-down effect happened, where characters/NPCs were outright talking about these gods, the 2nd was asking the lore knower to explain lol
the 2 gods kept getting referred to by a few names, like “The Soldier and the Scholar” or “The Sage and the Warrior” or “The Keeper and the Pursuer” etc.
after awhile of comparing both of your games, you realize that some vision users/gods tend to use the soldier/warrior/pursuer titles more often when talking about one of you, and the other gets the sage/scholar/keeper more often
u both get excited, maybe its bc you chose diff travelers or some other reason, but when u try and post abt it or otherwise ask other players u get a lot of negatives/”hasnt happened for me”s??
u both just think the games glitched or some dev is playing a prank on you two maybe,
it gets weirder when u both realize the lore player be over here getting random gifts from all the characters in the mail all the time
and just as grinding players like “ :’( my favs don't like me?? but they have the best artifacts and maxed friendship levels..”
they get flooded with multiple gifts from their main characters, most of which benefit the grind tbh lmao (like a bunch of cheaper materials or crystals to level up artifacts/weapons or to ascend that character = no more slaughtering every samurai on sight for their handguards or collected a fuckton of those blue layered mushrooms for wanderer)
god u were both grateful to this glitch ngl, it saved a lot of dumb misc tasks and was just a nice touch
no but the amount of confusion inside the game from when u first started playing together, like each of ur games began with stuff abt 1 god, then as u co-oped moved onto 2 gods (like said at the beginning)
the lore player is blabbing away like you do, which begins to be heard by the other player’s game world
like it starts as whispers in battle, then all the time, then a quiet convo in the background all the time, until they can just hear u out of earshot esp word for word when they focus!! at first the vision-users/gods got all excited bc their god was speaking!! finally!!! until I'm sure they heard narration that didn't fit/it was there sometimes even when their god’s presence wasn't?/voice sounded “off” to them/didnt fit their god…??
ok ik u were joking abt the national holiday,,, but I’m not. 😈
THE FIRST WORDS 2ND SPOKE BEING IN A PROPHECY, REGARDLESS OF WHAT IT IS THEY SAY.
Player 1, playing as Childe, steals a singular (1) sweet flower from Player 2, who has Wanderer out:
P2: I seriously hate you. Listen to what I’m saying, I can’t stand you.”
(Wanderer panicking that its abt him- Childe freezing bc he managed to piss off a god that feels as powerful as his own- the PROPHECY LMAO- )
P1: “… you miss me.”
(everyone else: 💥vine boom sound 💥😦😨😰???)
P2: “I hate you.”
P1: “You miss me and you love me, why must we fight??”
(everyone else: 💥vine boom again💥🤨🫠??…)
P2: “I hate you-”
P1: “-we gotta good thing going on, you and I, why must we tussle??”
(everyone else: 💥yet another vine boom💥 💀💀)
(the absolute deep anxiety/pure confusion as the two harbingers heads just ping pong back and forth towards the voices lmao)
u two scare the shit out of any characters u do this with lol
they do get used to it as u talk, and the characters even manage to interact (thru hacking magical shenanigans and discord)
to send thank you gifts to player 1 for getting player 2 to talk more lol
along with sending copies of any lore books that player 2 has gotten that player 1 hasn't!
and it becomes common/tradition to exchange gifts like this to thank or appreciate the other god, like player 1 characters sending thank you gift copies of rare materials or ascension stuff that player 1 had that player 2 didn't (esp making sure to send during resinless hours lmao)
overall, 10/10, whats better than 1 god that plays one way? 2 gods that compensate for each other and now u have 2x the worshippers
(i wonder how meeting alternate versions of themselves would go, bc id like to headcanon that each of ur behavior towards them/ur unique influence has changed them a bit comparing, like they arent carbon copies anymore, not like they used to be…)
hey sorry for slowing down guys!!
i just feel bad its taken me forever to get to these asks, so i wanted to take what time i could lately and charge thru them so i could spam post lol
I've also been working on fics! so that's delayed things by a lot, bc fics take longer to “respond to” than short asks or replies
my poor bsd fic
Anyway thank you so much for sending this in!!! I'm so sorry i took forever to get to it, and i hope u enjoyed response/my brain shitting this out lol
have a good weekend!! :D

In no particular order they are all fantastic in my eyes! My rating system is based on, Story, Music, Art and Gameplay.
EASTWARD:
Tumblr media
Is an action adventure role-playing game. Set in a near future world in which humanity has been nearly wiped out by a toxic plague called the “MIASMA”. You play as John a grumpy old miner looking after a child thats not his, Sam on adventure neither of you planned. But boy is it a good adventure! This is another game that I really wish I could play again for the first time. This one took me about 20 hours to beat and I gave it 10/10.
BREATH OF THE WILD:
Tumblr media
You know this one. Everybody love it. Just play it.
OPUS COLLECTION:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is actually two games in one, Opus: the day we found earth and Opus: Rocket of whispers. TDWFE is an adventure game focused on story and exploring the stars. There isn’t a ton to this one but the story is very cute. ROW is where the real fun is at, it takes place after an apocalyptic plague in a destitute future. You play a John going out and gathering supplies to build a rocket ship to send the souls of the departed to the moon with the help of a friend you find along the way, Fei. This one took me about 10 hours and I gave it 9.5/10
ORI AND THE BLIND FOREST:
Tumblr media
Is a platform adventure game. You play as Ari a small white spirit on a journey to restore the forest after a cataclysmic event. It is probably the most difficult game I have on this list but the death revival is very fast so it doesn’t feel as punishing. It took me about 11 hours to beat and I gave it 9/10.
GOROGOA:
Tumblr media
Is a puzzle game about moving tiles around to create the correct image (you’ll get it when you see it). I don’t want to spoil too much of the story so I will just say you are following the story of a boy life. It is sad and beautiful and full of life. I also hope to forget this game so one day I can play it again. I finished this game in about 2 hours (it was develop by one dude what more can you ask of him) and I gave it 9.5/10.
DICEY DUNGEONS:
Tumblr media
Is a rogue-like deck building dice game. There isn’t really a story to this one. But you progress through dungeons rolling dice and placing them in weapons and shields and other elements in order to beat the creature and progress to the next level. I got addicted to this game and didn’t put it down for like 2 weeks straight. I put about 35 hours into this game before I moved on from it and I gave it 10/10.
SIGNALIS:
Tumblr media
A survival horror game set in a futuristic time. The story is a time loop centred around your character Elster trying to save the woman she loves and losing her mind in the process. The majority of the game play is searching for keys, cards and other elements to help progress you through the story with resource management. The art style is amazing with its pixilation. Took me 13 hours to beat. I gave it 8.5/10.
DISCO ELYSIUM:
Tumblr media
Is a roll playing game written by the novelist Robert Kurvitz. You take on the role of an amnesiac detective trying to solve the murder of a hanged man with his enigmatic partner. As you progress through solving the murder you start to uncover the detectives past and affect things for his future. The game uses a dice based skills element to bring some chance and some strategy as to which skills you increase. The game is fully voiced by an amazing cast (TW the detective is an alcoholic). I finished the game in 15 hours and I gave it 9.5/10.
PERSONA 5:
Tumblr media
Is a turn based role playing game about the internal and external struggles of a troubled group of high school students who live dual lives as phantom thieves. After school and between their part time jobs they fight demons in what they call the Metaverse. The story to this game is very good and the turn based mechanics are very well done. I think I sunk 70 hours into beating this game and give it 8/10 but looking back it should be 9/10.
CITIZEN SLEEPER:
Tumblr media
Is a role playing game with a deep and well crafted narrative experience. Let’s be honest this one is a bit of a visual novel, but it is a great one at that! The characters in this story really come to life with their struggles and victories. There are multiple ending so keep going after the credits. Dice are used in th game to preform actions based on their rolls. I honestly wish I could play this game again for the first time. It took me 12 hours to beat and I gave it 10/10

Nextfest Game Demos You Should Try
I've been playing a ton of demos during nextfest (going until 10/21 if you want to try any of these yourself!) and figured I'd spread the good word about some games worth checking out. Naturally, all these demos are free. I trawled mostly through the "story-driven" section, but there's a range of genres I tried. If you like games like Disco Elysium, Pentiment, In Stars and Time, or Night in the Woods, we might have similar taste! (Here's a longer list of games I've enjoyed)
Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector
The sequel to the fantastic sci-fi RPG Citizen Sleeper (which if you haven't played it yet, what are you doing! go! play it!). This game is a Discolike that has its own identity and mechanics. Big emphasis on space capitalism and how awful it is. This one introduces an actual crew to the familiar gameplay of the previous game, which I'm very excited about. I love the idea of actually having my own ship + people aboard it who are a continuous presence in my game. Check! It! Out!
The Rise of the Golden Idol
An extremely good puzzle game where you collect clues and fill in the blanks (literally). I still haven't played the first one (only played the demo for that too) but man! The game mechanics are fun and I love the art soo much. I love solving puzzles and I love how these are decently challenging without feeling like I'm beating my head against a wall.
The Scarlet Deer Inn
An adventure game inspired by Slavic folklore where you play as a mother and innkeeper. All the characters are embroidered!! It's so cool!!! Visually, it evokes Ghibli and Pentiment. The story quickly took a dark turn in the demo, and I am extremely intrigued to see where this project goes. Highly highly recommend checking this one out.
Keep Driving
A lowkey management RPG with great pixel graphics and fun music. You're a young person on a road trip, so you need to maintain your car, work odd jobs to buy gas, and most importantly, have fun! I can easily see myself losing entire days to this game. Fun little gameplay loop. Give it a try!
Mushroom Musume
Raise a mushroom daughter in this pixel RPG! Just in the demo, there's something like 30 endings. I've played through three times and gotten three different mushroom daughters, and the final version (out later this year) will have double the content that's in the demo. The art is great and the game is well-written. I'm going to keep playing this demo until I've exhausted it!
Loco Motive
Point-and-click murder mystery comedy on a train. Great voice acting, fun & bouncy pixel art! Had a great time playing this one. Not a lot to say about it aside from it's fun and made me laugh.
Urban Myth Dissolution Center
Ooooo it's spooky! Another pixel game with really, really fantastic art. You're a new investigator for the Urban Myth Dissolution Center and it's your job to look into rumors of urban legends. This one's also a point-and-click investigation game, though with a bent towards horror. Really looking forward to getting to play the full release for this one.
The League of the Hustlers
A point-and-click adventure game set in 1700s France. You play as the members of a group of rebels who rob & murder nobility, specifically those tied to an organization called the Sons of Sun (I think they said that was the name anyway). I'm intrigued by this one! The demo was short and some of the mechanics are stupid difficult (looking at you, swordfighting minigame), but I was able to skip the section after a few failed attempts. There was very little in the way of instruction on the minigames, so I hope they add that in. I like the art style.
The Edge of Allegoria
Pixel turn-based RPG that takes inspiration from classics of the genre. It goes a little too hard on delivering on the steam store's page promise of "this ain't no f@#%ing kid's game" imo. Like ok I get it, you say fuck a lot and murder squirrels. That said I did have fun with the mechanics, and the humor could probably work for some people. Feels like the kind of game I really would have liked between the ages of 16 and 20 because it was "edgy" and "not for kids." ymmv.
Button Man
Set in 1920s Nova Scotia, you play as an enforcer for a local gangster. I love the vintage comic book art style with the halftones and comic book panels. The controls were a little weird (for some reason I couldn't use WASD for movement) and there's like two different interact buttons and they don't explain either? Didn't get to see too much of the story, but I had fun with it.
My Party Needs an Alchemist
Extremely cute. You play as an alchemist struggling to gather ingredients in a dangerous world. Luckily, you find a party to help you out, you just have to keep them alive! I have been craving an alchemy game that I actually think is fun (aka something that breaks up the monotony of making potions with story or some other minigame or whatever) and this looks very promising! The characters I've met so far are sweet and the art style is adorable. Looking forward to the release for this one.
Rooster
Another cute one. You play as Rooster of the Chinese zodiac, sent back to ancient China to learn a lesson. About being a decent person, I think? The art is cute and the music is nice. It's a very casual experience and feels like it's meant for a younger audience.
Polismos
An ancient Greek citybuilder. It seems very intricate and could potentially be fun! The UI is a bit busy, but that's kind of how citybuilders tend to be. I didn't play too much because I always WANT to like citybuilders but I never find them all that fun. Worth a look if it's your genre, though.
Demos I played so you don't have to
Divinastros - Card game using tarot suit cards & zodiac influences. You're fighting against Olympus (often mispelled in the game as "Olimpus," though the misspelling is inconsistent). I never really figured out how to play because it felt like the rules and objectives were poorly explained. Mediocre art and the game is rife with misspellings and grammatical errors I would have overlooked if the game had been fun. Maybe you'll get the hang of it, though.
Grimfield Mystery - This one was sooo disappointing. The art & vibe of the trailer made me think of Gravity Falls, but the gameplay was clunky, poorly explained, and not really fun. Maybe the full release will improve upon what's here but for now, I don't recommend it, and I'm not wishlisting this one.
Ad Agency Simulator - Another in these weird specific simulator genre. Fun enough, if that's the kind of thing you like. Drag-n-drop ad maker thing. Possibly uses AI art but I really didn't look that hard or play that much so. shrug.

[Review] Sonic Colours Ultimate (PS4)
Tumblr media
Lipstick on a pig.
Next on my Sonic chopping block is Colours, originally released on the Wii in 2010. I've played the DS version by Dimps (the unofficial "Sonic Rush 3" although I think of it more as a 2.5) and thought it was fine; sadly even with the enhancements in this Ultimate rerelease I don't think the console version even manages to get that high in my esteem.
As relayed in an opening cutscene that plays after you beat the first level(?), Eggman has built a giant amusement park... er, again. Eggmanland is never brought up once. Anyway, this one's in space! Inexplicably, six mini-planets are tethered together in Mobius's orbit and the new alien mascot blob creatures Wisps have been enslaved to power it all. Sonic and Tails team up with the non-verbal Wisp Yacker to stop Eggman's plan which involves mind control or something.
Tumblr media
Well I say Yacker is non-verbal, but they do speak in Wisp language. Tails's role in the story is to build a translator machine so they can communicate. This leads to many (many) "hilarious" translator gags. Ugh. Colours marks the point where a new team was contracted to punch up the writing in the games, and their initial effort is a gigantic fumble. The dialogue is constantly cringe-inducing, with anaemic quips that get driven deep into the ground through repetition. I'm told that Eggman has some good lines delivered over a PA system that runs in the background of stages, but they're mixed so low that I could never make out what he was saying!
Eggman's new minion bots Orbot and Cubot exist solely for wacky hijinks, which also rarely lands. And I've now named all the characters in the game. Eggman's unnamed orbital park feels so empty; cutscenes are often just Sonic talking either to himself or an unresponsive Badnik boss, or filling the air with mind-numbing banter with Tails. This is the peak of the era of paring the cast back to the bare minimum for no reason, and the game really suffers for it. The DS version at least had a bunch of folks popping up briefly; here they're conspicuous in their absence. There's not even nameless imperilled citizens, and this is supposed to be the opening day of a theme park!
Tumblr media
As for the gameplay, we’re firmly in the “Unleashed Day” mould, with boosting and so on. Colours is so stingy with boost though; you don’t get it from collecting rings, or doing game actions, only from white Wisp capsules (and defeating certain enemies but not others??). And it feels like later on they just forget to put boost Wisps in, so I often felt lacking. The Ultimate release tries to alleviate this by awarding boost meter for good timing on homing attacks but this only gives the merest pittance, so it doesn’t solve the problem.
The balance of 3D and 2D also feels off, with many of a given zone’s six acts being almost mini-levels that are solely in 2D. Others are a mix but it leans heavily on 2D sections. This may be a symptom of lower budget since asset-heavy 3D segments are expensive. It also is likely a concession to the big new Wisp gimmick, which give Sonic temporary transformations; the majority of them only appear in sidescrolling parts, I guess because they couldn’t figure out how to make them work in 3D. They don’t seem to have quite figured out how to make them fun in 2D either but that’s just my opinion.
Tumblr media
The game is quite short; I just tore through it. Well, some parts of it are too long like the gruelling final level—an autoscroller with a lack of checkpoints—and certain dragging boss fights (and by the way there’s only three bosses for six worlds because they recycle the designs). A side mode offers co-op play in bland “virtual” levels, unlocked by collecting red star rings, but it doesn’t extend the play time by much.
The Ultimate version has a handful of enhancements worth noting. Lives have been eliminated (thank you!), replaced by balloons which have Tails rescue you from pits without returning to a checkpoint. A new Wisp has been added, as well as races against Metal Sonic (glorified time trials, one per world, taking place in existing levels and needing to be unlocked). A new token collectible lets you buy cosmetics but it’s a much shallower system than Forces’ fun customisation. There’s also a newly arranged soundtrack, although I preferred the original which is thankfully now a selectable option after a patch.
Tumblr media
I can’t speak to the performance of the Wii original but this rerelease looks great and runs solidly. The cutscenes are a letdown by being quite crunchy, upscaled in some way from the Wii’s SD FMVs. But the world of Colours is very, erm, vibrant, the environments popping with, uh, various hues. So it lives up to its name in more ways than just the spectral-coded Wisps.
It feels a shame to have another misstep just as Unleashed seemed to be getting things onto a better footing. But Colours despite some artistic flair and a polished movement system is stacked with unforced errors. The Ultimate version has a bunch of tweaks but all told they don’t amount to a true and deep addressing of the weaknesses of the original game. Not to mention the additions Dimps made to the DS version not present here or on Wii: its expanded cast of friends, the Mother Wisp, new bosses and the extra postgame boss fight, special stages, more Wisps, the concept art gallery… maybe that version is the real definitive release!

Made a Nightcat Ref, or Stargazer as CW calls them, story rambles under cut
As a pup, Nightcat's parents decided to ascend and take their child with them.
Their parents went in first, but Night was too afraid and ran away.
But the void followed them.
you know the void dreams? the ones you get as survivor and monk?
So i basically took that concept and notched it up to eleven.
The void torments Night with dreams, although torment may be the wrong word, the dreams are total peace and tranquility for nightcat, which only disturbs them further.
the actual contents of the dreams vary, but one thing stays consistent, a dark void with large bright lights.
sometimes they, and their ghostly body, are alone.
other times, the ghostly shape of their parents is present.
the dreams call for night.
but it doesn't end when they wake up, hallucinations plague their life
fear and paranoia are nightcat's most common emotions, sometimes they fear that the ground beneath them might just open up and swallow them whole.
soon night found that the dreams and hallucinations are more common and more realistic the closer to the void they are.
so up and up they went... eventually finding an citizen ID drone, and made it to CW
at first CW attempted to do their usual speech about ascension, but as soon they mentioned the creature began to chirp and yell loudly.
finding the creature to be seemingly afraid of ascension quite interesting, CW reconfigured their drone and allowed them into their city.
nightcat soon made the city its home, always sleeping at the highest point of the city. which makes the dreams and hallucinations less frequent and less "real". stargazing became a hobby of theirs, earning their nickname by CW.
of course hallucinations and dreams still haunt them, occasionally they might look up to see their beloved stars replaced by that dreaded void with glowing orbs...
Night is always doubting themselves, especially as they learned more about this world through CW, what if they are wrong?
Their parents and an entire species decided that it was a good idea to ascend, and a god finds their fear and outright trauma regarding ascension to be an anomaly. Who is he to say they are wrong?
but the fear is too great to give in, and the trauma to great to move on...
so they are stuck in a cycle, to afraid to give in to the call and too traumatized to move on. a permanent routine of leaving the skyscraper for food, maybe exploration too and even meeting CW, and then quickly coming back to watch the sunset and stargaze for a while before sleeping.
nothing changes in that routine.
gameplay wise, Night has a cloaking ability allowing them to essentially turn invisible.
but it has the drawback that any sudden or fast movements leads to the cloaking disappearing. so throwing spears and maintaining the cloak is impossible.

now that i've extracted this from my brain with a spoon i can say i was vagueing about cyberpunk 2077, star citizen and assassin's creed
i think the feeling of disappointment when a game has been in development for, say, +7 years, doesn't come only from the fact it's often still bugged, glitchy and that thousands of labor laws were probably broken in its making. it's also that all the precious graphics and gameplay tools that were used to promote the game don't come with a solid scenario.
studios love realistic graphics and (to my surprise) so do lots of gamers, like it's the only thing that matters. more often than not it's implied this realism will allow you to explore... dark themes, dark places or the intrinsic nature of humanity (which is interesting to equate realism with not only veracity but also everything that is beyond our reach - metaphysics, the human nature, etc). and then when the game is out you have all this - albeit bugged af - but the plot is the most incoherent bullshit you've ever seen, or it makes sense but is simplistic. like the implicit promises weren't kept.
no amount of pixels put together to recreate the perfect beard of the main character, no amount of beautiful sceneries can make up for that. even if the game's issues get fixed, the plot never is - because it's harder to fix a plot than it is to fix bugged textures*. so all you've got is an empty husk. it's beautiful, but it's not worth wandering in. you're delivering packages till the end of times. you can romance a few characters maybe but once your primal desire is fullfilled it's back to nothing. and you're ultimately disappointed.
*i am not saying being a game developer is easy. it's just that it's very different from being a writer. and that companies usually know time is money and it's *easy* to fix bugs: just put the devs in front of their screens for several months of crunch. a writer? can't work like that. the story must be determined beforehand and you can't modify it as it goes (you could. that would be a very cool experiment). and companies know that time is money²: so you get a basic scenario for your beautiful game.
the discrepancy between the quality of graphics and of the scenario never ceases to amaze me

As Guilt Weighs
-Author's Notes-
Based on the Oswald's History cutscene
Also based on scrapped content from EM's "Playstyle Matters" gameplay mechanic (specifically, the section where Mickey became more similar to the Blot when he made more evil choices than heroic choices)
According to the Epic Mickey book (and the opening to EM2), Mickey canonically chose to kill the Clock Tower instead of redeem him, so I included that.
An AU idea I had in middle school where Oswald had a right-hand-man like Gus was to Mickey who shared Oswald's motives but also had motives of her own. (Like the original game, everyone is neither 100% hero nor 100% villain)
Didn't have either game open while writing, just referenced the cutscene that was linked, so no promises on canon-ness.
So this was the palace of Wasteland's true king.
It's a… fixer upper for sure. Much like everything else in the once prosperous kingdom.
The trek to this point since being grabbed by that monster and flung into this bleak, forbidden-feeling landscape had been… disconcerting to say the least.
He was Mickey Mouse! M-i-c-k-e-y! M-o-u-s-e! Yet since arriving here, he'd been sneered at, glared at, attacked with no mercy, or straight up ignored.
When all the hostilities faded away, he was… forgotten. Just like Wasteland itself.
He felt closer to being one of them than he ever could have imagined.
At the end of this long climb up Mickeyjunk, a mountain made entirely of his likeness, he wasn't sure if he'd even recognize his own face in the mirror.
And who could? That Mickey was bright, cheery, pure and innocent; a cheery face to brighten weary souls.
He could feel his difference to that mouse. The almost ink-like feeling of his face as almost ghostly wisps flowed from his nose back past his ears (if they were even still that round shape). It had first started, just a couple ink-like drips off the head every now and then, when he'd first been abducted by that creature. Since defeating the Clock Tower, nay, since thinning the Clock Tower, the progression had rushed by and left him wondering if there was even a face to recognize.
And thinning was the right word to use for such an act. The Tower's deranged screeching and singing and mumbling as his mind left him; and the scraping of metal, the screaming of pain and the snapping of gears and cogs as Mickey's actions tore apart his body and left only a disfigured face as a stepping stone.
He was no hero.
These citizens torn and worn by grief and war owed nothing to him but their sideways glances.
Many of them were kind still, in their flickers of hopeful emotion. Horace and Clarabelle… he couldn't help the guilt that wracked him at their betrayed (poorly disguised as ‘disappointed’) faces.
They were once co-workers, fellow stars, friends…
And he forgot them.
A clearing of the throat and a swishing of a white mustache brought him back from his thoughts.
“Are we ready to meet Oswald?”
Gus… he was so kind. So generous and thoughtful. He had been trapped down here since the last world war… and yet he never lost his kindness despite all that had happened to him… to all of Wasteland. He was the first friendly face in this world, and was still one of very few. The little levitating gremlin was a living reminder of the hope that could be found in the darkest places.
“You'll think he'll want to see us?”
“Ah, it's not him I'm worried about.”
Before Mickey could protest for an explanation, an army of cards surrounded them to shepherd the pair further into the desolate bunker-esque castle at the summit of Mickeyjunk Mountain.
~~~
“Say, uh, this is that rabbit… Oswald, right?” Mickey pointed a dripping finger at an old, faded black-and-white title card.
“‘Great Guns’, ‘Trolley Trouble’, ‘Oh What A Knight’... Oswald was in lots of old films.” Gus pulled the title card for ‘Oh What A Knight’ off the staircase wall. “He was the first one of us to become a star! …and the first to be forgotten.”
“Forgotten…” There was that dreaded word again, the first death of a soul doomed to die over and over. “What… what happened?”
A loud clank came from behind the pair, and the mouse was spun around, neck wrapped around a scythe, before he could greet the voice. “You happened.”
Another human, well Mickey thought it was human, snarled at him from behind a horned mask; breathing and staring him down.
“Now, now, Sylvia,” Mickey could hear Gus’ nervous voice behind him. “There's no need for that.”
“What is this Blotling you've brought here, Gus?”
“Sylvia, that's Mickey Mouse, and he's very much Toon, let me tell you.”
“Even worse.” Sylvia dropped her hold on the mouse.
“Sylvia, he's not staying. He's just here to greet Oswald and get home.”
“Of course he isn't. The people love him too much.” Wings that dripped similarly to Mickey's body, although much brighter in color, flared in his face.
“Um… pardon me,” The mouse grinned cheekily. “But, uh, who is this?”
“Ah!” There was that tone of voice Gus had when he was about to start monologuing. “This is Sylvia, Guardian of Wasteland! She has been around since Wasteland's creation, protecting each of its citizens-”
“Until the Thinner Disaster.”
“T-Thinner Disaster?” No matter how many times he heard the same speech, he still asked the same question. And got grabbed by Sylvia.
“Open. Your. Eyes. Mouse. Do you really think such a place as this is where forgotten characters are supposed to go, huh? A place so dark and desolate, where hope itself has died?”
“Well, uh, you seem cheerful-”
“The Thinner Disaster changed everything.” She dropped the dripping creature flat on his rear. “Or should I say, it ruined everything.”
“So, uh, what's this got to do with me? O-or Oswald?”
“Nothing. I just don't like you. And that will be King Oswald to you, mouse.” She walked in circles around him, studying him almost, each touch of the scythe on the ground going click, click, click. “The Blot took everything from us. Our home, our livelihoods, our queen is dead because of the Blot. You think you're rough enough? Try being cast aside, dumped for decades and then having the kingdom you built with your blood and tears to prevent them from others be drowned in the likeness of acid; have a beast come raging from the destruction and end the love of your life right before your own eyes and have nothing to celebrate for your victory because your entire reason to live has been consumed by the likeness of Hell itself?! You selfish creature. Wasteland heard the screams that can never be voiced pierce her ears. Wasteland scrapped herself together after the slaughter of her queen and her dearest brethren on the lines of war. Wasteland and her king live on even when there is no queen or kingdom left to live for and serve. To think you could ever compare confirms your likeness of the Blot far deeper than this physical realm. And so help me Walt, if you did anything to bring this pain and suffering upon the kingdom of Wasteland, then thoughts of the Cartoon World will be the last thing on your mind and the furthest from the last thing you'll see.”
A small ‘plink plink plink!’ brought Sylvia's masked face out from directly above the mouse's nose and turned to a small collection of those blue bunnies that seemed insistent on chunking him into the Thinner himself.
“Ah, Princes!” The gentleness of her voice now was jarring. “Come here.” The three bunny children hopped into her arms and snuggled as she walked towards a large open hallway. “Daddy's on his throne, right back here, let me bring you.” Her right hand rose and a snap broke through the room. “Cards! Seize them and run his Majesty's tests!”
And once again, a deck of cards had him surrounded.
And this time, there were no clever escapes. He was firmly on unfamiliar territory.
“She doesn't like me, does she?”
“Not one bit.”
The Davis'
Tumblr media
Meet Jason Davis, our founder of this...legacy? I don't know. In fact, I'm not following any legacy challenges and just made new sims; no money cheats, no freezing of motives, just playing this game how one normally would. Anyways, Jason's aspiration is Master Chef, and currently works as an Assistant Dishwasher. He lives in 2B Jasmine Suites, in the Spice Market, San Myshuno. He left his family from city outskirts as soon as he graduated high school, to chase his dream to become a five star chef in the city, which is why he chose this neighborhood to live in. Though, life in the city isn't that easy but luckily for him he landed a job in a restaurant. Though not currently a chef, he'd experiment in his work (his boss is kind enough to allow him) and at home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When at home, he tries socializing with his neighbors, as well as his fellow citizens in the Spice Market, and tries to enhance his dishes. Here, he would meet someone special, someone who would make his world more lively, and someone who supports his love in food. Someone like....
Tumblr media
...Sophia Langley. Sophia is a young lady residing in 19 Culpepper House. She moved in the brownstone apartment after leaving behind her family in Willow Creek. She romanticized city life so much that she only had 900 something simoleons when she arrived here (after paying for initial rent and buying chill pills and birth control). Anyways, she wanted to experience the city, and what it has to offer! Festivals? Yes! Food Festivals? Say less! She has the Housewife Aspiration; I forgot to tell you, but she also came here looking for love (should've went to Tartosa, haha!). She works as a mailroom technician, and she doesn't mind the pay as long as she'll find love, marry, and have her own family.
Tumblr media
I'm going to try to do normal gameplay and not just....cheat money and skills...and experiments on my sims LMAO!!! Anyways, I hope I have the patience for this, but still, we the new expansion pack coming, I can't wait to see how Jason and Sophia would be as parents!
Also I need to find another reshade preset that would be more light bc I feel like my laptop would blow up now LMAO
Looking for a space sim game that has mining
Looking for a space sim game that has mining A while ago I dipped my toes into star citizen and have since then extracted myself from it and stopped playing for a few reasons. But while I did play SC one thing I absolutely loved was the space mining gameplay loop and I have yet to find another game that scratches the same itch. im just waiting for the day that the "smaller", less bombastic gameplay systems are implemented to star citizen, like engineering and detailed medical gameplay, to a point that if you join an org and are part of a large ship it's almost like a smaller version of ss13
