back before arc #3 started, I made a post of theories and predictions and things, and I already referenced it once, but here I am to reference it again (you don't have to go back and read that post, I'll reiterate all the important info here)

the two big things I'll bring up here are the politics of destroying the station of the Witch of the World's Heart and the tense collaboration between Mirara and Indri (warning: idk how to shut up so this is a little long)

I understand where they (Ame, Suvi, and Eursulon) are coming at with the numbers angle, but back in ep 15, Mirara said that the coven can act without unanimity and Grandma Wren said that they may act as they see fit without her approval. So I'm not sure how strong that argument is gonna be on its own. There is a difference between unanimity and majority, but I think that they might need something else on top of the issue with odd/even members.

Also in ep 15, Grandma Wren said that "there will be tremendous repercussions if you insinuate that any of the other stations are not incredibly significant to the nature of magic itself" and in Ep20, Sly tells Ame that "one of your sisters is going to make the argument that your existence threatens the nature of magic in the world of Umora. And the only way—in the majority of cases where you win that argument, you win it because in order to get rid of your station, they would probably magically have to get rid of another." I think the key points of both of these statements in the tie to magic, as if the thing that makes getting rid of a station in the coven is some sort of magical law/rule and not just a logistical one. I know Brennan was almost leading them away from that conclusion, but I really feel like they were onto something with the idea of balance. Plus, we haven't seen any of the "tremendous repercussions" that Grandma Wren mentioned. Maybe the repercussions are just Ame gets to take someone else with her, or maybe it's a bit of etiquette that Ame doesn't know yet and they're playing off her ignorance, like maybe Ame is allowed to do something in response and she doesn't know she's granted any sort of special reaction.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that my theory that Indri is working with the Man in Black (MiB) seems to be coming true. I felt a little like the Pepe Silvia meme when I was coming up with it.

We got confirmation that the MiB is under Mirara's station and I think that based on Indri was talking during their argument that they are probably working together against the wizards. And by the transitive property, we can guess that Indri and the MiB are also allies.

I theorized Indri might be working with the MiB because one of the other titles for him is the Pilgrim Under the Stars, which implies that he moves around like people, walking around on the ground (at least to me). In the last memory Ame has in Ep15, Grandma Wren says that "he has been moving upon our world in a way that I cannot quite see" which I think we all clocked, but she also stated explicitly that it's only been like this recently (to quote directly: "for some time now, since you were a very little girl, in fact"). It's possible that perhaps the reason this changed was because Indri had aligned herself with the MiB and was aiding him in moving in a way that is no longer under the stars.

I wonder if Grandma Wren had somehow clocked this because in Ep2, Brennan said that "she sort of had a relationship with [the stars], like someone who spent time in their company" so maybe that's how she knew something was up or wrong with them. I wonder if she asked Steele for a book (the one about stars of the southern sky that was sent with Suvi along with the shape-changer diagrams) that categorized the stars or just listed them in an effort to compare the information of what the sky used to look like or how these things used to work with how they may have been changed by either Indri or MiB.

Sure thing!

So basically when Best and Chahub's series Check Out first aired on iqiyi it was unavailable to watch in many countries. This prompted the director of the series to give an interview saying that the series was too explicit to show on any other platform such as youtube, and that they were looking into maybe broadcasting it via onlyfans.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with onlyfans and what it's used for, but you could argue that it's a very strange thing to say for a professional director who would probably be better off showing his series on other platforms more suited to traditional longform entertainment (like gagaoolala, the patron saint of queer media 🙏).

Add to that that pornography is illegal in Thailand, and any mentioning of it in an actor's portfolio is probably... not that great.

The director further said that during the filming of the intimate scenes they decided to do away with all protective clothing because it just couldn't be done otherwise (decades of spicy scenes in film beg to differ but ok). The actors were fully naked. They didn't decide this beforehand but directly on set. Many fans have later speculated that due to the stressful and time-sensitive nature of a film set, this might have been coercive and exploitative.

The scenes that were later shown in the series were actually not especially spicy. Certainly not spicy enough to call them "25+". Actually, they were so unremarkable (as far as spicy scenes go) that the series has since been re-released on youtube (albeit probably as a cut version? I'm not sure. I haven't watched it) - the very platform 9naa was so sure would ban them if they even so much as looked at the upload button.

Throughout the whole shock value promotion (because what else could it possibly have been?) the actors themselves stayed strangely quiet. They're apparently on record saying that they value their intimate scenes as art. That's it. There was no further promo. There were no follow-up jobs. Best and Chahub weren't in the special ep (according to mdl Best was but I can't remember him showing up hm). They were either quietly dropped by 9naa or bid their time until their contracts expired.

None of this is especially scummy or even illegal (at least as far as we know). It does leave a sour aftertaste however, because companies like 9naa always have the upper hand over their actors. A lot would have to happen for an (inexperienced) actor to speak up because breaking contracts and NDAs would mean losing their jobs and potentially being blacklisted and/or sued (even Yoon Phusanu only came forward after Y.Ent had already broken contract by not paying him until a set date).

So if a company makes weirdly sensational claims that they later either conveniently forget about or passive-aggressively backtrack on, then that's weird. If they show no interest in promoting their own talent and have a strangely high turnover rate for rookie actors, then that's even weirder.

And this isn't an isolated case. 9naa had a whole series planned with MFlow Entertainment. Beyond the Star was supposed to star actors from both companies, only for MFlow to later finish and broadcast the series on their own due to "differences in vision and work attitudes", editing out as many of 9naa's actors as they could. Weird, don't you think?

And, most recently, Cheque Wacharawee (from 9naa's Venus in the Sky) withdrew from any follow-up projects in a letter posted to his instagram because he had concerns due to work attitudes and couldn't even reach 9naa's lawyer (notice that he too only spoke up after 9naa had already violated his contract). 9naa reacted days later with their own very subdued announcement that has since been deleted. Very, very weird.

Who do you think is to blame here? The actors (most of whom are inexperienced and in Chahub's case haven't really acted since), MFlow (a small but reliable company that makes series that aren't always the most cohesive but at least the actors seem happy 🙏) or 9naa who's at the centre of it all?

Personally, as a fan of both Best Vittawin and Cheque Wacharawee, I've decided to no longer support or watch anything by 9naa. Kiseki Chapter 2 sounds nice and I hope its leads are doing well. Maybe the company has since learned from their previous unprofessionalism but people should at least be aware that they have something of a shady track record.

It has been...a year. I struggled a lot this year, lots going on in my real life and ending on a mixed bag, but there was a lot that kept me lifted and plenty of it was in and around QL. I legit don't have the energy for a long and intense write up, so some quick hits.

1. The People

So many of y'all, you know who you are, but I want to call out the loyal pod listeners, the whole clown squad (no tags, Fight Club rules) and extra-specially @the-conversation-pod team @ginnymoonbeam @lurkingshan and especially @bengiyo. You don't even know friend, but there's days you legit kept me going.

This year more than ever, I found myself gravitating toward shows centred around ideas of compassion, acceptance, bittersweetness and 'a soft epilogue'. I'm well out of the first flush of youth, and while it can be heartwarming to watch the younguns experience it all for the first time, lived experience makes romance DIFFERENT. There's something about having tried and failed and finding it in you to try again that just hits. Something about knowing yourself and feeling something you thought might be dead in you come alive again. Last love for me, every time.

How do you think a date between Bill and Colleen would go?

glad to see I'm getting more ppl on board with this ship bc I literally make all the content for it teehee this might be a brick of text cause I have like a billion million ideas lol

Now, for le question. I feel like their first date would've been very casual, hardly a date even, maybe they go out, get coffee together (not at Gloria's Cafe because the kids + Gloria would've been PLOTTING to get them together) but maybe some other places. Very low-key, very personal.

But their dates later down the line would be more romantic ofc, Bill's a classic romance guy and Colleen I feel doesn't have much experience in relationships outside of professional ones - and if she were to have been with someone before it was probs with Gwendolyn and we know how that went (⁠•⁠ ⁠▽⁠ ⁠•⁠;⁠) - so it's a bit of a learning curve for her. Bill tries to make it nice and romantic, taking her to a fancy place for dinner, he'll try and take her to some place related to space perhaps like an observatory. But I feel like it'd be in character for their first more romantic date might not've gone well, like they don't get into an argument or anything, but like the date doesn't feel personal. Bill's anxious and trying hard to make it special that it's Not Special (like in the EP with Cricket and Gabriella).

So I feel like maybe instead of like trying to do things by the book or whatever he takes Colleen out to the country to see some actual stars there. They sit on the roof or in the bed of the Kludge. Bill's asking Colleen about constellations and she names them and helps Bill recognize them as the stars slowly skirt by in the sky. It's cold out in the country so they scoot up to each other and hold hands blah blah blah, very tender, very sweet.

I think it'd also be funny, if the kids (especially Tilly) tried to play matchmaker between Bill and Colleen. Tilly just has a cork board with stickers and post-its and doodles and red string and Cricket is just a long for the ride. Maybe Gloria gets dragged into it for the tea or the drama. Tilly trashes the house with hearts and glitter and pink (Alice about lost her mind but it's all for a good cause). And she'll find the most miniscule things Bill and Colleen might have in common to try and get them to like each other. "Wow! Papa isn't this just crazy? You like coffee! Colleen likes coffee! Don't you just have SO much in common?" Etcetera.

Tilly also wants them together out of a genuine care for Bill, she wants him to be happy and just like in Friend Con she wants to help him have meaningful relationships and she's worried that Bill hasn't been with anyone since he and Nancy got divorced that he's unhappy (which he isn't lol) and thinks someone like Colleen is good for him.

I think you get the idea lol ngl this has motivated me to write a fic sooo expect that maybe lol

Listen I don't think we appreciate how big of an impact the casting of Fish Upon the Sky has had for like so much of the development of gmmtv bls

FUTS was originally going to star Pond and Winny

It was then changed to Pond and Phuwin and Winny was given a minor role along with Satang

P'Aun notices Winny and Satang's chemistry between their characters

When adapting My School President, P'Aun decides to change the plot of MSP and writes out the love triangle of tinn/gun/sound and replaces it with Sound & Win being a couple

MSP does numbers and now Winny and Satang are an official branded pair

Winny and Satang then play a couple together in We Are

Back to Pond and Phuwin! Because of FUTS the two become a branded pair

P'Jojo said he was specifically thinking about Pond and Phuwin when developing Never Let Me Go, so there's a good chance the show wouldn't have happened at all if PondPhuwin wasn't a thing (or at least look very different or be given to a completely different set of actors)

Pond and Phuwin also starred in We Are together

But back to NLMG, Perth and Chimmon are first introduced as a branded pair in that show

Perth and Chimmon then star in Dangerous Romance together (it is impossible to know if gmmtv would have ever made them a pair if nlmg didn't exist but for the sake of this post, let's assume that they wouldn't be a thing without nlmg establishing them)

Perth and Chimmon were also set to be in Perfect 10 Liners together, but Chimmon has since dropped the project and Santa Pongsapak has been recast in his role

Back to NLMG, in the Our Skyy 2 special episodes, Marc and Pawin are teased as a pair after having no projects together since 2020 (with My Gear Your Gown)

Shortly after, Dangerous Romance starts airing where Marc and Pawin play the side couple (the os2 was clearly setting up their reintroduction. also worth noting that marc was not in the regular nlmg and pawin was in many of the other os2 eps, so it's a deliberate choice to do this in the nlmg eps)

Marc and Pawin are then set to be in We Are together as well, but due to controversy, Pawin steps down and now Marc is paired with Poon

Back to FUTS!

Before Phuwin took over the lead role, I believe he was supposed to play either Neo or Louis' character (I think it was Neo's) but the point is that they had to recast that role and now Neo and Louis are a pair

Neo and Louis are then cast as the side couple in The Eclipse

Only Friends comes out and Neo gets cast, but allegedly Louis' mom didn't want him star in such a high heat show with sex and drugs and whatnot, so Neo is now paired with Mark

Neo and Mark are then cast as a couple in Cooking Crush, but because gmmtv overbooked him, Mark had to step down from the project and was recast with Aungpao

(this on I have the least evidence for) but Mark is going to be the lead in Sweet Tooth, Good Dentist and is paired with Ohm Thipakorn, which if he and Neo had done Cooking Crush together and cemented themselves as a branded pair, could have been different

Anyways the casting, development, or even very existence of: My School President, We Are, Never Let Me Go, Dangerous Romance, Perfect 10 Liners, The Eclipse, Only Friends, Cooking Crush, and Sweet Tooth Good Dentist, have all been influenced by the existence of Fish Upon the Sky.

Whether or not Fish Upon the Sky is a good show or not is it's own debate. But one thing we can all agree on is that it has shaped a toooon of shows and will continue to do so as these branded pairs make more shows and get recast and so on and so forth. And all of this is directly because they recast Winny with Phuwin.

Ep. 27 - The Moment We Touch Each Other Amidst Stardust

Hello my beloved fellow souls,

welcome back to Danbi’s Room, your weekly dose of safe space. Go grab a cup of something warm and get yourself cosy.

I hope that during the past week you had some eye opening conversations. I hope that, like me, you’re surrounded by people who feel like a light and tender kiss on your forehead. I hope you feel loved and that you remember that who loves you does so because of who you are not for what you do.

Sometimes that might feel the same as a collision, as we are not used to that kind of love.

Usually, when stars collide, they give birth to new planets. But not always.

There’s a road not taken, at least not often. It’s scary and tortuous, but it allows you to slow down to your own pace and to witness the most sublime visions, some that only the Gods were able to see before.

You see, sometimes, when a star explodes as a supernova, she leaves behind a compressed core: a neutron star. Half a million Earths in a ball of 20km across.

If fate decides on such a grand event, two neutron stars meet and when they do they spiral towards each other, deforming by the hands of their own tides, shattering and collapsing into the creation of an all-sucking black hole, leaving only some particles to light up the event horizon.

What a beautiful name.

Event horizon.

The bubble between the black hole and the rest of the universe. The fine line where the complete darkness of possibilities meets their manifestation. Where the whirlwind of time and space, of two souls, has bore another world hatched from the filled chasm of lusters making love to each other amidst stardust.

They tear apart the somber eternal sky in order to create.

There’s a new interesting theory, which is the one about white holes.

Reversely, stuff can get out into the universe but it can never ever get inside the hole. Physicists have only theorised them, we have zero clues about their existence but someone has put out the idea that, since we don’t know how black holes die and are reborn into a new life, white holes might be the answer. Some even say the Big Bang might have been a white hole. If that were to be the case we’d basically have the ultimate proof of the truthfulness of eternity. Now, science doesn’t rely on gut feelings, as much as they can be a stimulus to start a research, but like…If I close my eyes and gently place a hand on my womb all of this makes so much sense.

Nothing’s a coincidence.

Just finished watching Hirogaru Sky Precure and I think it's the most solid series of the franchise so far. It didn't feel like there were a lot of purely filler episodes, unlike in some previous series where you could pretty easily skip 5 eps and not miss anything in regards to character or plot development, the overarching story itself is better paced and less redundant than some older series, and there were a lot of cool things done regarding the characters :

- first adult Cure ! We've already had "older sister" types in the series, but they were all still in high school and therefore still had similar problems and arcs to the other, younger Cures, so it was nice to have someone who is a bit older in the group because Ageha truly brings a new perspective and different dynamics to it : she has her life figured out, no familial conflict regarding her future, she often plays the role of the gentle hand guiding the kids in figuring things out regarding their own dreams and relationships, and even when she wasn't a Cure yet, she helped by providing technical support, information, strategies, protecting Elle-chan... A real adult !

- first boy Cure ! Not only was it nice to see a boy join the group, it was even nicer that he wasn't treated any differently from the others, be it by the group or the supporting characters. No one, in the series or all stars movie, pointed out that he is the first male Cure, which I appreciate because yes, the lore of Precure never stated that only girls could be Cures, but when you see big companies patting themselves on the back for including gender or racial diversity in their productions and making a big deal of it in the production itself, not just in articles, by having characters point out how unusual and amazing this is, I am happy to see that Toei Animation goes all the way with the message it sends ("boys can be Cures too and there's nothing weird about that") instead of making remarks about how unusual it is and therefore undercutting the message. I also love that they made the biggest recurring Precure fan of the series a fanboy, who specifically loves Cure Wing the most (before his beloved teacher becomes Cure Butterfly right before his eyes). A little boy is a fan of and wants to be like the male Cure : representation matters !

- the pairs : of course there are some clearly defined and favoured pairs in the team, as is often the case in Precure, but, where most series with a larger group tend to keep these characters in those specific pairs, to the point of rarely showing meaningful interactions or dynamics outside of those pairs, Hirogaru lets multiple pairs coexist at the same time, with very specific dynamics : Sora makes a pair with Mashiro (the lovers), but also with Tsubasa (the himbos, because seriously, look at their scenes together) and has a recurring gag with Ageha (the hugs, which is even included in the movie) while Ageha, who is Tsubasa's partner, is also Mashiro's childhood friend. And Elle ! In Hugtto Precure, Hugtan had a relationship with everyone, and I believe there even were some special traits to most of those relationships, but Elle takes it to a whole other level : Sora and Mashiro are clearly her main caretakers (without that impacting or taking away from Elle's relationship with her parents btw) with Sora being a bit more strict and stern, like her father, while Mashiro is softer and more willing to let things slide, the archetypical image of a mother, but Ageha is clearly the one who understands Elle the best and most often knows how to cheer her up when something is wrong, and Tsubasa is her sworn knight, who Elle tries her best to reconnect with when she starts to feel like Tsubasa is getting more distant. The different pairs also have a specific dynamic as Precures : whereas Sora often feels like she depends a lot on Mashiro and is ready to accept her help and be her friend as soon as she meets her while Mashiro often struggles with feeling like she isn't good enough, Sky is initially opposed to the idea of Prism fighting because she's worried for her safety while Prism knows and will show Sky that she is a dependable partner who is her equal and can fight by her side. Similarly, while Tsubasa often follows Sora in her antics or has overall similar reactions to new or surprising things, Wing is less hot-headed than Sky and has more than once pushed her out of harm's way when she charged headfirst into it. Ageha wants to do everything by herself and Tsubasa has trouble making her rely on him, but Butterfly and Wing's partners power up is the mixing colour palette that lets Ageha support everyone by powering them up while she apparently can't power herself up with it. Mashiro has never tried to hold Elle back from doing new things, but Prism tries to protect Majesty in a fight to the point of putting herself in danger. Sora has always protected Elle, but as soon as Majesty showed up, she and Sky got in sync acting as the team's powerhouses, often giving ennemies a double punch. It's just beautiful to see so many different and nuanced dynamics !

- the future : while Ageha and Sora know what they want for their future, things are more tricky for Tsubasa and Mashiro and I appreciate that the writers didn't take the easy options there. Tsubasa can't fly with his wings and has already studied aerodynamics and planes for a year when we officially meet him, so it would have been easy to simply make him decide to be a pilot, but they didn't take the easy path and made him realise that, now that his first dream had been achieved, he had developed a taste for knowledge and would become a sage. Similarly, Mashiro is gentle, wants to make people happy and is good at cooking and baking, so making her decide to be a cook would have been easy, but they went the picture book author way instead to give her more depth. I particularly like this because it reflects the reality of people being good at or having an interest in multiple things and career choices being about more than just taking what one is good at and finding a job making use of that.

Of course, the series isn't perfect : some bits are rushed, others feel a little out of place, some dynamics are less explored than others, Dark Sky deserved a whole episode instead of the two minutes of screentime she got, but overall, I maintain this is the best structured, best constructed, most solid Cure series I've seen thus far and I hope the quality stays at this level or keeps improving going forward because it's nice to see a franchise this big being treated as more than a money bank and getting increasingly better instead of degrading over time.

my pfp !!!! i discovered the title track sign from the album hoshi no koe, but this is the record it originally debuted in! takemura is a japanese electronic musician who makes a lot of experimental music, and this album is no different. however, it has sort of a.. nintendo vibe to it? it’s difficult to describe, but it’s super fun !! i love the album art as well and the rhythmic motion of the building. the little music note guy has my whole heart too, theyre jus a little goober <3

i wouldve put this in yellow but there is no option. anywayz this is a interesting album. ive recently started listening to hosono’s music and i enjoy it a lot !!! hosono house is fire, but this one is also good ! the cover art is what initially led me to listening to this, i love the beach atmosphere and the sky as space. and the little bubbles that have random monuments in them. and the palm trees n plants and agh. it’s delightfully surreal and im here for it !!!

S-F-X - Haruomi Hosono (1984)

look hosono you’re awesome and i love your early stuff so far. but i could not get into this ep at all. might try again tho !! but it’s really a shame because the cover is awesome. i love the distortion on the face and the pops of pink and yellow against the teal background. it’s very pleasing to look at and it’s been floating in my mind for awhile. very futuristic lookin !

Sail - Masakatsu Takagi (2003)

I AM THE ULTIMATE TAKAGI FAN #1 anyway. this album is so so lovely and silly. it has a special place in my heart now fr. the best way to describe it is animal crossing/picopop(??) type music. some of it reminds me of kero kero bonito’s music too. idk genres are weird !! point is it’s very upbeat and nostalgic. a few tracks are more somber sounding, especially rama. but i love the album art of this one, it’s like something you’d see in a dream or a childhood memory. i love the watercolor texture and the blend of pastel colors too!! and how it looks as if it was combined from multiple layers, as in each piece of the figure was made separately. overall takagi is a genius and this album SLAPS

Keep It Unreal (10th Anniversary) - Mr. Scruff (2009)

mr. scruff makes very cheeky and silly electronic music, but occasionally he drops an absolute banger. nah fr all of his stuff is good, some of it is just more “serious” than others. but i appreciate his sense of humor and the beats he makes ! this album of his is a great listen, but i especially love the cover. the og album cover is mounted up in the corner while these little bean guys are celebrating. truly a work of art. his other album ninja tuna also shares a similar art style !! very goofy <3

A Wizard, a True Star - Todd Rundgren (1973)

do i gotta say anything even. this is just a masterpiece of a cover. there is so much going on in the best way possible. i love the incorporation of the geometric shapes. the trippy visuals. it screams 70s. not to mention this album is fire. international feel is so good !!!

Desire, I Want to Turn Into You - Caroline Polachek (2023)

PHOTOGRAPHY JUMPSCARE ! i recently go into caroline polachek and OML where have you been all my life. this album is pure pop bliss and her vocals are so so good. sunset and fly to you are especially good oug. the album cover in particular is very simple in concept but it’s executed so well. the lighting, the sand, the bus chairs, her outfit?? absolutely stunning. this woman oozes creativity fr.

Dreams - Gabor Szabo (1968)

i could not find a better quality image of this one but holy molay this is a great jazz fusion record. is it fusion? idk anymore. but this is a great album and the art is just. mwah. i love all of the intricate details and the flowers. it’s just gorgeous !!! what else can i say !

Dead but Dreaming - vivivivivi (2023)

final one !!! vivivivivi is honestly super underrated, though her song credits song for my death has 8 million views on yt. anyway, this was a pretty recent album from her and it’s very cool !!! def gives the vibes of an rpg. i love the album cover tho!! the artist did a tremendous job with it, i love the overgrowth of the flowers and the shading. it also suits the tracks well !!

So I rewatched Love in the air for the 2nd time

And here are my thoughts (as u guessed it haha)

- Motto: came for the PayuRain, stayed for the Prapaisky is still true.

- I want a man like Pai. How is he even real? God.

- Rain is still so dump. It's annoying and cute. And how it affects his kinky side..lord Payu is a lucky guy ahah

- Pete's acting in all the eps with trauma and Forts reaction to it. Top tier. Wow. Still getting goosebumps.

- Fav kiss from PS - still that one in Ep 13. Pai I the racing suit and Sky out of the shower. I don't know why. It's like so soft and sexy omg.

- The Ep 6 sex scene is like a prayer. I mean hello. They did that. For real. BossNoeul perfection. Holy moly. Still so crazy.

- the series is one of the series I mentioned in my 2022 review of BLs. It changed BL. And I am lucky enough to have witnessed it.

- special ep has a special place in my heart. Those scenes at the beach. Oh man so soft.

- Boss is like everybody's crush. He has the looks. And he is so kind. I love him. His future is brighter than a star. And indeed he is BBBs child I tell u haha

-Noeul. Is like so talented. The dancing and all. BN will rise.

- Pete gives me all the feels with his eyes. They tell everything. I love that. I love his bitchy vibes and his lovedovey vibes sm! FP for the win!

- Ford is one of my favorite BL actors. I don't know why but he is like so good looking and kind and I love his character sm.

- Pai is literally Kinns Child - he in that red suit. Hell man. Marry me haha

//Gotta say, didn't love the exaggerated faces and fake voice Jensen used during the last episode of Big Sky. I can't help but wonder who keeps telling him to act so histrionically. His career opportunities are bound to stall if he keeps acting so fakely. Please, please, please get a great coach!// - I haven’t been watching big sky this season but I can say from past seasons that the writing on that show is…. not good so I wouldn’t doubt that would maybe add to the bad/overacting. But outside of BS, I think this is something we saw happening over the years as Dean and he seems to have gotten stuck there apparently. Dean started off as a deep layered character with much more subtle acting… but as the writing on spn went downhill and the writers seemed to lose focus on what made the characters special, they started to write Dean (and many other characters) as almost a caricatures of what he once was. They made Dean the over the top “funny guy” who over-acted a lot of his scenes. Yes, he could still pull some moving and more nuanced performances when needed but that’s not how they wrote him anymore. Look at any later season ep and you’ll see him pulling over exaggerated faces and definitely over-acting. Late season Dean became more of a joke, and not a good one. But Jensen got comfortable on spn and didn’t push himself and just fell into whatever they wrote. I think that was how he last acted in spn he he seemed to get stuck there. You could see it in TB too. I know so many of his fans complimented his micro expressions but the truth is, a lot of it wasn’t micro at all, it was in your face. When you didn’t see him actively thinking about what his next acting choice in the scene would be, then he was usually overacting (it’s why I think JDM would have been better as SB, he’s got that cocky swagger down to a science and even when he is over the top, it works for what he brings to the characters. But he can also do the subtleties well too). And then he landed on BS which has really terrible writing (I watched s1 and tried s2 but it was getting worse) and that’s actually a complaint I’ve seen a lot about the show - the writing is bad and makes the characters feel awkward and Jensen is falling back into what he did last time he had bad writing…

There's a common misconception I want to cear:

No one on set, not the producer, showrunner, director, especially not the writer tells an actor HOW to play his character. The very reason said actor is hired is to bring HIS version of the character. If we look at the scripts from SPN nowehere did the writers make Dean into an over the top caricature of himself, that was an acting choice made by Jensen(though they did write him one dimensionally in certain aspects and you beautifully described what they switched to over time). My point is, it's the Actor that creates the final version of the character and any layer said character might have. For whatever reason (possibly feedback from his no talent wife?), Jensen thinks those over the top faces he makes are believable and sellable and he is relying on them more and more, to the point of seeming more like a depressed clown than an actor. Sorry, I may seem harsh but currently, within the industry, they are looking for Actors who live the part not those who "act" and Jensen falls into the old generation of soap stars who fake their way through scenes without doing due diligence on it. His emotional prep leaves much to be desired and he resort to gimmicks instead. I'm never going to get tired of saying this, I hope Jensen calls a coach like Fine, Moss, Lyndon, Chubbuck because he needs one on his side if he plans on ever making it big and especially if he plans on shifting tiers.

JDM would have been a perfect choice for SB, he would have added all the missing layers and power dynamics that Jensen failed to bring, in part because he was grossly miscast.

Also, just to let you know, I adored reading your post because I love when people pick up on the subtleties of someone's acting, especially when they are able to explain everything so beautifully. Thank you 💕

Day 5: Constellations

It was a quiet night. Except for the chirping of crickets. A gentle breeze swept through the cool air, and stars shone.Even though it was a peaceful night, not everyone was sleeping peacefully.A human, known as Frisk,was one of them.She stared at the ceiling. Next to her, sleeping peacefully, was one the prince of monsters. A giant goat monster known as Asriel Dreemurr.Who was also her partner.She looked over at him. He slept peacefully, with a calm face, and his body slowly rising and falling with every breath. She smiled at him. Five years ago, if you would've told her that she'd be living in a magical place and fell in love with a giant talking Goat...She would've thought you were crazy.But...here she was. Living in Underground, next to Asriel to prove her wrong.She carefully sat up and swung her feet off the bed, careful to not wake him.He continued to sleep peacefully.Sighing, she stood up and walked over to the window. Opening it, she leaned out, resting her arms on the window pane and looking up. The shiny rockson the cave ceiling were like stars in the sky at night. Just like when Asriel first showed them to her. There was peace in the city. To bad she wasn't feeling peace. In fact, she felt guilty. Asriel didn't have to be with her. She knew a lot of other females that were more pretty and deserving of him.

Maybe she should tell him...

Frisk?"

"EH!" She let out a squeak and pulled her head back in. Only she didn't look at where she was going in her startled state and hit her head against the window with a resound thump.Her hands flew up to grip the top of her head which now emanated a throbbing pain."Ow...."

"Frisk, are you alright?" asked a calm voice.

She looked up to see the giant monster. Wide awake, out of bed, and looking right at her."Y-Yeah. I'm fine.....You're awake?"

"I heard you get out of bed."

"How did you hear that?"

"Animals have better senses than humans, which include hearing."

"Oh..."She looked at the floor, avoiding eye contact.

"Are you alright, Frisk?"

"....Yeah, I guess. I didn't hit my head that hard."

His eyes narrowed." That's not what I meant. You of all people should know that no one gets up in the middle of the night for know reason." "....."

"Frisk, tell me. What's wrong?"

"..Sans."

"Did he upset you?"

"No. He just....looked sad when I.."

"Chose me over him." She nodded. He sighed. Reaching out a paw and pulling her against his body. "Frisk. You two talked it out and left it on good terms, did you not?"

"Yes...but.."

"And you two are still good friends. He moved on."

"I know. It's what he said."

"Why? Did he hurt your feelings?"

"No. It's just," she bit her lip," He said that inter-species couples are a beautiful thing."

"And what's wrong with that?"

"I just find it strange that you'd be with me when a lot of other.....monster girls are a lot prettier than me." She finally looked up at him. He stared back with surprised eyes.

"Frisk. I don't love you for your looks.I love you because you have a good heart and see good in others. If I wanted someone shallow, I would've went with someone shallow." He leaned down to nuzzle the top of her head. " You're perfect just the way you are. Startled squeaks and all."

She blushed." You really think so?"

"Of course. It's not everyday I hear such a cute noise."

She blushed harder, and covered her face with her hands."AZ!"

He chuckled. "Do you want to go back to sleep now?"

"In a second. I...want to watch them for a bit longer," she said looking back up at the star like sparkles up above.

"Then, if you don't mind, I shall join you."

"I'd like that. Thanks."

She sat back against him, and he wrapped a paw or two around her. She snuggled against his warm, soft fur and paused. A little 'mee-e-e-ep' noise came from above. Like a little lamb. "You baa?"

He coughed. "Only around special people I'm particually close too."

She giggled."It's cute."

"Not as cute as your squeaks."

Tell you what...You don't tell anyone about my 'squeaks', and I won't tell anyone you baa. Deal?"

"Agreed."

They settled down and watched the 'stars'. Turns out it was a peaceful night for everyone.

Album Reviews: Jimi Hendrix Experience "Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967" / Scream "DC Special"

Jimi Hendrix Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967

Another year, another Jimi Hendrix Experience release just before the holiday season! Since beginning this blog, I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing loads of Hendrix albums including the posthumous album Both Sides of the Sky, the 50th anniversary Deluxe Edition of Electric Ladyland, the 50th anniversary re-release of his live album Band of Gypsys, his live box set Songs for Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts, the live album and movie Live in Maui, 2021’s Record Store Day release Paris ‘67, and last year's Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969. This week Legacy is releasing a never-before-released (or bootlegged) live album of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's concert at Hollywood Bowl just before they became famous with Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967.

At this concert, the Experience were opening for The Mamas and the Papas. Attendees were mainly there to see the headliners. Jimi Hendrix Experience's debut album Are You Experienced would be released in the U.S. five days later on August 23, 1967 (it had been released in the U.K. on May 5, 1967). By this point, the band had played a legendary show at the Monterey Pop Festival and opened for The Monkees. This is literally the moment just before they got famous. The trio were bigger than the sum of their parts: Hendrix on guitar, Noel Redding on bass, and Mitch Mitchell on drums. There were quite a few songs from Are You Experienced, but there are also loads of covers including favorites by The Beatles (“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”), Howlin’ Wolf (“Killing Floor”), Bob Dylan (“Like a Rolling Stone”), The Troggs (“Wild Thing”) and Muddy Waters (“Catfish Blues”). A live album would pretty much be enough to please a lot of fans, but this one is cool because it's not some overly-bootlegged concert so there's a sense of discovery, but also the covers make this feel like you're getting something new and different. There's nothing like hearing a band the very second they became famous and here it is!

Scream DC Special

Bursting out the DC hardcore punk scene in the 80s was the legendary Scream. The Reagan administration gave the Washington DC punk community quite a bit to rant about in the 80s and Scream were among the biggest of that whole scene, along with Fugazi, Bad Brains and Henry Rollins (the list, of course, goes on). In my friend Scott Crawford's 2014 documentary Salad Days about the DC punk scene in the 80s, he interviewed multiple members of Scream. Singer Pete Stahl and his brother / guitarist Franz Stahl, bassist Skeeter Thompson were a tight knit unit with original drummer Kent Stax. After Stax left the band in 1986, his replacement was teenage drummer Dave Grohl, who truly brought it. I was a big fan of the band's albums No More Censorship and Fumble and I have them in my record collection. After the band broke up (as we all know), Grohl joined Nirvana and brought that punk energy he honed in Scream to the masses. The Fumble album had been recorded in 1989 but was finally released in 1993. There were a few reunions here and there and Grohl has continued to work with the members of Scream (i.e. Franz was in Foo Fighters from 1997-1999). In 2009, the original lineup of Scream reunited and they even recorded with Stax on drums at Grohl's Studio 606 for an EP. But we haven't actually had a studio album from Scream since Fumble, which was 30 years ago. This week, Dischord Records is releasing DC Special featuring the original lineup. In September Stax died at age 61, making this his final album with Scream.

With the Fumble album it felt like the band was really evolving. The punk sound was there, but there was also a post-punk sound coming through. With all of their collective outside projects, i.e. Franz in Foo Fighters and DYS, Pete and Franz in Wool, Pete in Goatsnake and Earthlings?, Skeeter's solo work, etc - this band is way more than just an 80s punk band. This album incorporates a lot more styles and even some melodic tendencies. It's a nice full circle moment that this album got recorded with Stax before he died and that Grohl made a guest appearance. There's loads of other DC punk veterans appearing here including Dischord Records founder and Fugazi / Minor Threat singer Ian MacKaye. This is album is a treat for fans and enough to make you want to, well, scream!
