Last House on Mulholland

Der letzte Tag in Los Angeles war noch einmal ein richtiger Architektur-Tag. Nach unserem Trudy-Besuch mit reichlich Cookies und Komplimenten besichtigten wir zunächst das Schindler Haus, erbaut von Rudolph Schindler. Insbesondere nach unserer kürzlichen Ozu-Filmreihe freuten uns die japanischen Einflüsse in seinem Stil.

Nach einem Nudellunch in einem Park machten wir uns auf zum berühmten Stahlhouse (Auch Case Study Haus #22) von Pierre Koenig. Das konnten wir leider nur von außen sehen...

Weiter ging es mit dem Case Study Haus #21, was uns ebenfalls sehr gefiel. Und um die Häusertour gebührend abzurunden fuhren wir als letztes zum Last House on Mulholland, von wo man dem Hollywood sign am nächsten ist. Dort picknickten wir mit Joghurt und Erdbeeren.

An old photo of a model of the Stahl House can be seen in this 2021 Vanity Fair article that looks at the new book about this famous Case Study house in Los Angeles written by the Stahl family.

“As the Stahls tell it, the house may have been a modernist glass bubble, but the glass had smudgy handprints all over it. The towheaded Stahl kids liked to roller-skate across the concrete floors and got up to the usual youthful japery—setting Barbies afire and the like.”
