Strange Hearts, Part 4 The Duke
Leto x Reader
Part 1Â Part 2 Part 3
Strange Hearts Spotify Playlist
Summary: When an arranged marriage brings you to Caladan, you find that another man piques your interest
Disclaimer: I thought of this while fic and started writing under the impression Paul was in his early to mid-â20s like Timothy. So for the sake of this story he and the reader are both in their twenties. Sorry for any inaccuracies, Iâve only watched the movie and really only paid attention to Oscar lmao.
Warnings: A little bit of angst. Unwanted Marriage? technically love triangle/affair.
Leto had always been a composed Duke. It took a lot to break that from him, yet it seemed that the moment he walked into the library that trait had shifted. No that wasn't it, it wasn't in the library. It wasn't even when you kissed him later that night, although he did seem to like it.Â
When he had come to apologize to you, he had kept his composure, when he turned and started to walk away, he had kept his composure, but when he held his hand to the knob on your door and heard a broken cry, it slipped through the cracks of it. Leto was the Duke, a ruler, and a pleaser, and to hear you sound so hurt, and knowing it directly related to him, he could not bear it.Â
You were gorgeous, you always had been. When he had visited you in your homeworld he had always thought so. Thought that when you were to be married, it would cause wars as to who your father would marry you off to. How ironic that you were offered to the only person that made it difficult for him to now forget about you.Â
Leto didnât pity you for your situation, but he did empathize with you. Sacrificing yourself and your dreams for the hopes and aspirations of your fathers, seemed all too familiar. Maybe that's why he had been so drawn to you. Maybe that is why he kissed you back that first night you were here and why he turned to comfort you after hearing your cry.Â
Something about you showing up in his house had switched his mind to a different setting. Maybe it was the fact that he couldnât, no shouldn't have you. He definitely could, he's proven as much. But that wasnât it, no, because he has you and he still felt the need to be close to you. You were like a virus that entered his life unexpectedly. Everything about you invaded his mind. The soft skin he had touched, your smell, your sweet voice.Â
When he left your room that night, Leto went back to his. He opened the door to find Lady Jessica sitting on his bed waiting for him. Shit.Â
Leto loved Lady Jessica with every part of himself. But when he had been with you, he hadnât thought of her. And now the thought made his stomach sink. Jessica has always been there for him, always stayed by his side, and loved him no matter what. He had just thrown all that down the drain for some girl who was getting married.Â
What an idiot. What did he think was gonna happen? He had Jessica and you had Paul, although you and Paul werenât really together, not yet at least, he could tell Paul liked you and that made his stomach sink even lower. You had to share this castle with them now. He had put you in the worst predicament ever. Not only were you upset about the wedding and being forced into a new place, but now he had feelings for you while he was devoted to someone else and you were supposed to be to another.Â
âHey,â Jessica had whispered to him, âwhere were you, you're usually in bed by now I was just coming to look for you.âÂ
Shit. That could've gone badly. The idea popped into his mind. Jessica walking in on him with you. He doesnât think Jessica would've taken it well. While she was only his concubine, they still held a deep and intimate connection.Â
âSorry,â he scrubbed his hand down his face, trying to rub his brain off the busy thoughts, âI was just working a little late, and lost track of time.âÂ
God, if that wasn't the most cliche line. She sweetly smiled at him, making the guilt in his stomach sink even lower, âyou work too hard sometimes you know that?â she stated as she beckoned him over to the bed.Â
If only that were the issue right now.Â
Leto settled into bed that night with Jessica, but her presence, since the first time he met her, did not calm him like it usually did. And as he drifted off to sleep, he saw you in his mind. Your bare form beneath him, sprawled on the silk sheets, soft and wanting.Â
_________
The day of the wedding had arrived and the duke was indifferent. His son had spent the morning with him and seemed excited about the wedding. It seemed that every time his feelings for you grew, so did the guilt as well.Â
âI know that I was hesitant about this at first father but, Iâm starting to see this is for the best, I know I hardly know her but I really do like her, and this way when i am to start ruling like you Iâll have someone else who prides themselves on doing what's best for their people, not someone who is after my power.â Paul had said to him.Â
âIâm glad you see it that way, I was afraid that even though I let you choose, you might decide that I didn't really give you a choice and you might resent me for that.âÂ
Paul took a moment to think, they were sitting in his room Paul sitting on the end of his bed, Leto in a chair across from it, waiting for the tailor to arrive for Paul. It was the only moment that would probably get alone with each other for a while.Â
âYou know I talked to her, and I canât help but feel bad. She didnât have a choice in this as I did, and even though sheâs willingly doing this now and doesnât seem to have any ill-will intentions toward me, it makes me pity her for that.âÂ
That's where he and his son seemed to differ. He didn't pity you, he understood you, even though he and Jessica got along well, it wasnât a choice for him, it was forced upon him by people in higher positions, and that had always irritated him, he never had a say in the matter. If it weren't due to the fact of his older age, he was sure it wouldnât have been a choice but for you to marry him instead. But this way after his son took over, the alliance would last for a longer period of time.Â
Just as Leto began to open his mouth and speak advice to his son on you, the door to his room opened and the tailor, along with a few others came flooding in. Paul, now having his attention diverted, and Leto not wanting to talk about private matters in front of people who could spread ill word about the three of you, slipped away to start getting read in his own room.Â
Leto had been to many prestige events, he didnât need a tailor and help to get ready, while he was way away, a servant had laid out his dress uniform on his bed for him and that was enough. He hated the attention anyways. Being alone while getting ready allowed him to decompress his thoughts and prepare for the upcoming blizzard of people.Â
That was until the door had cracked open and you came rushing in. his heart had melted the moment he has seen you. That look in your eyes was all too familiar. It had been the same look in his own eyes when his father had given him the ultimatum of being the Duke.Â
Yet somehow you still looked absolutely stunning in your gown, even with the forlorn look your face wore. Once again his affection for you grew as his heart sunk and sunk at the same time, and then. Then, Idaho walked in.Â
While this didn't worry Leto as much as it should have, he knew Idaho would always be loyal to him over anything, he couldnât help but come to a realization that this was now solidified as a scandal if it were to breach further into other people's knowledge.Â
That fact hung over his head while he stood beside his son and watched him vow to be your loyal husband, and to stand by you. His face remained expressionless as you did the same, it stayed this way when the two of your placed rings onto each other's fingers, the same when your eyes swiftly shifted to him as the officiant stated for the two of you to kiss. It was so swift it went unnoticed by everyone but him. And then when you and Paul had finally softy met, through hesitance and tension the whole room could probably feel, his face still remained the same.Â
It was something that he had been trained to do through his years serving as a Duke. Without this skill, he's sure his internal thoughts would provoke many wars. He's sure that if he wore his thoughts on his face during these moments, the same would happen.Â
His composure stood strong for the majority of the night. Only slightly internally cracking when he spared a glance in your direction. You had looked just as much, if not more miserable than you had when you came to visit him earlier that day. The deed was done and over and maybe it was shock written on your face from the fact that this had still happened, maybe it was the fact that today was supposed to be about the marriage of you and Paul, and yet the room read as only a celebration of alliances, but you look genuinely distraught.Â
The more he looked at you through the night, the more he thought about how truly unhappy you seemed. It wasnât fair. This led him to the idea that probably wasnât the best decision he has ever made. As he swept you across the floor as the two of you danced, he decided he would play it off as being a host if anyone were to draw suspicions of the two of you.Â
That night everyone was busy. Guests were heading home, opting to travel than spend the night. Maids and servants were left to clean and Lady Jessica had gone off somewhere to converse with other members of the Bene Gesserit. This left Leto alone and to his own devices.Â
While he undresses from his robes he considered going to your room to find you, he figured you would need some sort of comfort after the day and he was sure you wouldnât be with Paul. though it was traditional to consummate the marriage on the first night, the both of you were very timid and he figured Paul would have offered you the chance to decline, especially given the conversation between the two earlier in which he recalls Paul pitying you.Â
That's why for the first time this night, when he knocked on his sonâs door, opting to stop by his room first and finish the conversation they had started earlier that day, his face finally gave way to his emotions when the person who opened the door was you.

You Were Always Mine (Part 1)
Summary: Karma Artemis Sauveterre finds herself moving from Wizarding Britain to Beacon Hills after tragedy strikes her family. Let's see how she fits into this completely new environment while dealing with heartache, losses and gains.
Warning: This series contains smut, angst and teenage pregnancy. I'll probably place another reminder if I don't forget. I'm very forgetful. Also it was written by me and my dominant language is not English, I think that can classify as a warning because a lot of people are very particular about grammar and spelling. Mistakes are my own and I apologize in advance.
Pairing: Stiles x Artemis (Female OC)
A/N: My OC comes from the Harry Potter Universe, but HP characters will not star in this story. Only the spells and potions. And the schools. No people. This is going to be based in Teen Wolf and will follow their storyline, but not always very accurately. I did my best. I have only written until Season 2. I haven't watched Season 3 and up. I will try to start watching again and see if I can continue the story because I do want to include Void Stiles in this story. Thank you.
This is just a back story that I want to get out of the way. I'm not very good with "past tense and present" so I try to avoid writing memories and skipping from past to present. We will only start seeing more of Stiles and the gang once she has officially moved to Beacon Hills because the story starts with her childhood in Wizarding Britain.
Karma Artemis Sauveterre is a 14 year old Ravenclaw witch in 4th year at Hogwarts. She goes by Artemis, but most adults call her Karma. Her father suggested her name - meaning fate. He believes that she should be in charge of her own destiny, just as his parents had raised him. They allowed him to make his own choices, but only steered him into the right direction whenever they could. That's the same courtesy he wanted to grant his daughter. Her mother decided on Artemis, since she is a huge lover of Greek mythology. See, her mother's name is Leto. And in Greek mythology, Leto had a daughter named Artemis. If she had a son, he would have been Apollo.
Karma's father, Nicolas Sauveterre was one of French descend & the sweetest man she's had the pleasure of knowing. He's a thoughtful father who listens to her opinions & wishes, even though he was strict when he had to be.
Nicolas' grandparents moved to America right after they married since his grandmother got a job as a French teacher at Ilvermorny. His grandfather was a magical creature expert and worked as a veterinarian at the magical zoo in Los Angeles, California. They loved it in California and decided on purchasing a mansion and setting down roots.
His parents went into healing as well, since that is the branch of magic they were gifted with. His mother, Karma's grandmother, became a medi-witch and his father became a researcher for the spells division at MACUSA. He mostly researched and created healing spells instead of offensive or defensive spells.
Nicolas also went into healing after finishing his education at Ilvermorny. He worked part time at St. Jouge's as a Medi-Wizard in Wizarding California before transferring to St Mungo's where he got a job offer as a Healer. When he had moved to Britain, his parents moved back to their family home in France and left the house elves to care for the upkeep of the Sauveterre mansion in California. He had decided to stay in Britain for the foreseeable future because that's where he met the woman he married, Leto Selwyn.
He had met her in 1992 when he had first moved to Britain and was instantly captivated by her beauty. She was graceful, sophisticated, but still sassy and very outspoken. He was in awe.
He persued her and petitioned for her hand in marriage. By the end of that year, she was Lady Sauveterre. The following year, they conceived Karma and they were blissfully happy - until June 1995.
The Sauveterres didn't know much about the first British Wizarding war since it never quite reached other magical continents. They've heard whispers about a war escalating then almost immediately coming to an end, so no one was concerned.
Nicolas was unaware of the social climate of Wizarding Britain regarding light and dark families. If he heard whispers then he ignored it because the woman he was with made him truly happy, no matter the rumors of her family.
That's until her father came by more often. His wife having more and more hushed conversations with her father that wasn't meant for his ears. More and more dodgy characters occupied their home until that fateful day in June.
"The Dark Lord has returned." He heard from the floo. He was just about to enter the drawing room when he heard his father in law and his wife, so he decided to listen in on them. "He has been resurrected. Finally we will rid our world of those Muggle filth and halfbreeds."
He noticed that Leto seemed to hesitate. "Father..." she started. "I told you countless times before. I have a family now. The ideals you believe in...I don't believe in it. It seems superfluous. I have a husband who loves me. I have a daughter whom I'd die for. What could your Dark Lord offer me that I don't already have?" she asked softly.
"If that's what you believe then you are no heir of mine! I can't believe that I have a disappointment such as yourself as a daughter! You should be ashamed. Your mother died giving birth to you and I know she would want our legacy to continue. Are you going to let her death be in vain?" Her father spat out harshly.
"Father, listen." she pleaded. "I never wanted any part in this, why can't you understand that? I did my duty to our family. House Selwyn has a pureblood heir. I don't see what more you could want?" Nicolas could hear that she was close to tears.
"If you thought that popping out little pureblood heirs is your only duty then you are thoroughly foolish, daughter! I did not raise a simple-minded girl. You are better than any of these other frivolous women in our pureblood community. We will show the Dark Lord how superior house Selwyn is and if you can't do that with me, daughter, then I have no problem casting you out onto the streets!" He shouted and ended the floo call immediately after his long winded speech.
Leto sat numbly infront of the amber fire before she started crying. She felt her husband come up and hug her from behind and that just made her cry harder.
"He would let our House die out for his Lord!" she screamed, anger and pain coloring her voice. "What do I do, Nic? I can't be cast from the family. I can't be without a name." she cried.
"Shhh, love." Nicolas hugged her, "You don't have to do this, you are a Sauveterre now." he said, kissing her on the forehead.
"It's not the same, my sun. You know that." Leto looked up at him, teary eyed. "I don't want to lose my family magic."
He pulled her even tighter against him. He understood completely. The Selwyns have extraordinary family magic - Defensive magic. Just as the Sauveterres has a special affinity for healing, the Selwyns has an affinity for defending. They have natural Occlumency - protection of the mind. They have the natural talent for any type of shield, their family manor has the most severe protective wards so no one in their social circle would dare intrude where they weren't welcome.
It would surely be a major disadvantage losing a natural talent like that...something she's been able to do her entire life. Especially in perilous times such as this, Nicolas thought.
At the end, Leto did what her father wanted under duress. She did everything that was expected of her - whether it was to donate to the cause, to scare someone into submission by burning their houses and businesses down, whether she had to polyjuice herself to get things done or if it was to protect Death Eaters. She drew the line when it came to murder and torture, though.
She had kept memories of everytime her husband and daughter were threatened. Everytime her father came close to blasting her from the family tree. She even saved memories of the few times she managed to save muggleborns and halfbloods whenever she was out on an undercover mission.
In the end, it didn't matter. She was still sentenced to 10 years in Azkaban. The light families applauded her efforts, at least some of them did. Some of the dark families hated her, especially her father's associates. Her father had died during the war and the entire Selwyn fortunes were hers as the last of her bloodline.
She convinced her husband to sell their current place and move into Selwyn Manor since it was heavily warded and protected. The wards wouldn't fall so long as there was an heir with Selwyn blood alive.
She was sent to Azkaban on the same day her family moved into Selwyn manor and she felt secure having her husband and daughter protected.
When her daughter had reached her preteen years, her father would bring her to Azkaban to visit her mother. Most people frowned upon that but he was past caring. Nicolas just wanted to keep Leto's memory alive in Artemis' mind and he never stopped telling her that everything her mother did, was in protection of the family. He made sure that his daughter knew what an amazing woman her mother was.
10 years passed in a blur. Artemis was top of her class at Hogwarts, Nicolas was head healer at St Mungo's and Leto was due home soon. All three of the Sauveterres would finally have that empty space filled in their hearts and lives.

A New Life in New York: Dangerous Night (Thirty Seconds to Mars)
So I have a huge multi-part piece Iâm working on but the lyrics of âDangerous Nightâ by Thirty Seconds to Mars inspired me to write this late last night and I cranked out 2,500 words in a matter of a few hours. I hope you enjoy it.
Harry
Tuesday, February 11, 2020
As I snuck up the stairs I could hear her singing along to music in the bathroom. Thirty Seconds to Mars. She often swore Jared Leto was at the top of her âhall pass listâ. I liked to inform her that she was at the top of every list I had to try and make her feel guilty. It never worked. She got in this mood when sheâd put on Thirty Seconds to Mars before I took her out on a date.Â
âWhat a dangerous night to fall in love. Donât know why we still hide what weâve become. Do you wanna cross the line? Weâre running out of time. A dangerous night to fall in love,â she sang almost perfectly. She had the voice of an angel somedays and in moments like this that of a sexy siren.
âHi there,â I said as I leaned up against the door looking at her as she got ready in the mirror. She was close to being done, I could tell because she had a full face of makeup, minus lipstick. Though she was still in booty shorts and a tank top, her usual outfit when she got ready. We hadnât been together long but I knew her every move when getting ready. Iâd laid in bed enough times watching her do this. She was almost always late getting ready or perhaps I was always early because I loved laying in her room watching her as she did this.
âHey. Iâm almost ready.â
âYouâre fine.â
âYou look nice.â Her eyes gave me a once over in the mirror. Black pants and a black dress shirt with a few too many buttons undone. It usually drove her wild. Iâd left my jacket downstairs in the kitchen when Iâd dropped Harper off to Elizabeth and Nellie. My Mom had a few friends in town from England so she was out with them tonight and Elizabeth had volunteered to watch everyone.
âThanks, I have a hot date tonight. Thought Iâd impress her.â
âSo are you going to tell me what we are doing tonight?â she questioned.
âNope.â
âI hate you.â
âNo you donât. You just hate surprises.â
âThat too.â
âSo you were singing along to your boyfriend when I came up here. Youâre in a good mood tonight?â
âI am. I got in a good workout this morning, my trainer is kicking my ass.â She winked at me, I did kick her ass in the gym this morning. âI knocked my piece out of the park and met my deadline AND my editor loved it, it should go live tomorrow. I did a guest appearance on a podcast this afternoon. It was an all around awesome day and now I have this date tonight with this guy that is sort of makes me happy.â
I reached for her hand and pulled her back towards me. My arms wrapped around her as I bent down to kiss her. When she was barefoot she seemed so tiny. I wanted to pick her up and carry her into the bedroom but we werenât there yet. We were taking our time to get to know each other. I was ready, Iâd been ready basically since the first night we ran into each other at the bar after the doctorâs office run in. But her situation was different from mine so I needed to give her the space she needed. I would wait until the end of time if she needed me to and constantly told her that. She was worth waiting for. My hands slipped down her body and landed on her ass. I felt her smile against my lips. She pulled back and smiled up at me.
âSo no hint at all about tonight?â
âNope.â She glared at me before going into her closet.Â
âHow am I supposed to know how to dress?â she yelled out to me.
âDress sexy.â
âYou tell me Iâm sexy in my sweatpants when we watch TV on the couch with the kids on Saturday mornings.â
âOh because you are sexy when youâre in your sweatpants with the kids on Saturday mornings. Hot Mom Status. Tonight, think sexy girlfriend. Channel the mind of a woman who doesnât have to worry about kids at home because we have excellent childcare tonight.â She was quiet for a little bit minus her occasional singing along to the music that was still playing fairly loudly in her bathroom.
âHow does this look?â She had on a short black dress that had a layer of lace over the top of it with a black leather jacket.
âSexy as fuck.â
âAlright then, letâs go.â We walked downstairs and she went to give all of the kids hugs and kisses and tell them goodnight since Iâd told her we wouldnât be home before their bedtimes.
âIâve got everything handled,â Nellie said.Â
âThank you,â I replied quietly. Janie turned to look at me and smiled. âCome on, love. Weâll be late for our reservations.â
âAlright littles. I love you all. I will see you in the morning.â She kissed the top of all three of the kidsâ heads where they sat at the island eating the mac and cheese that Elizabeth had made them for dinner. She was determined to feed Harper like âa normal childâ as she constantly told me. Iâd tried so hard to keep the processed crap out of my kid but she was so happy eating her Kraft dinner with the other kids that I couldnât resist the cheesy kisses sheâd give me before we walked out the door for a date night. âAny hints yet?â
âNope.â
âStill hate you.â
âStill lying.â The doors of the elevator opened and I grabbed her hand as we headed through the lobby as we walked out onto the street I saw the car service was waiting for us.
âMr. Styles, Ms. Finnigan,â the driver said as they opened the door.
âA car service tonight?â she asked as we climbed into the back.
âYup.â
âIâm used to you trying to be a man of the people, forcing me to take the subway.â
âWell, tonight is a special night. So we get a car.â
âSpecial night, huh?â
âYup. I mean it is one month from our first date.â I watched her mouth drop open. âSurprised I remembered that?â
âI am,â she said. âMore so shocked that I didnât. Isnât that a girl thing?â
âIt typically is but you my love are not a typical âgirlâ so I figured Iâd take over that role.â She laughed before she leaned over and placed her head on my shoulder. The car drove us through the city until we reached the restaurant Iâd picked for dinner. We went in and were quickly whisked to a private dining area.Â
âYou went all out.â
âI did. And this is only the beginning.âÂ
âStill arenât gonna tell me are ya?â I shook my head and smirked at her. âJackass.â We talked about our day with each other as we ate, made plans for the week ahead because while both of us claimed we didnât care, Valentineâs Day was on Friday. She tried to convince me that tonight could count as more than one special occasion. Our Fridays since we started dating had been just as hers had been before me, pizza and movies with the kids. It was perfect and she didnât want to mess that up for a cheesy commercial holiday. It made me fall for her even more that she put her kids, and lately my kid, above anything else.Â
âSo can we go out on Thursday then if we canât do Friday night?â I asked.
âYou have work stuff Thursday night. You were rambling about it at the gym today. Some meeting that involves dinner and drinks with record execs.â
âFuck, yes I do. Come with me to that.â
âI was supposed to have girls night.â
âWith who? I thought your Momâs Night Out was Wednesday?â
âYour daughter and mine. Your mother and I were going to spend time with the girls because Jameson wanted to have some time with Finn. I figured if you had work that Iâd spend some time with Anne and Harper.â
âWhile that is adorable, it truly is, how about my Mum watches the girls and you come with me. These execs all come with their wives or girlfriends or mistresses, you might need to play your who is who game with me when inevitably I get tired of listening to them tell me that I need to come out from behind the scenes and record an album.â
âI was really looking forward to time with you Mom and the girls but maybe I can get her to watch them and we can take them to that salon I found that does Mommy and Me spa days in the afternoon while Finn is at school.â
âI love the sound of that idea.â I signed the check before I looked at her. âReady for our next stop?â
âThereâs another stop?â
âThere is.â I smiled at her as she rolled her eyes at me knowing that there wasnât a chance in hell I was telling her what was coming next.
âThen letâs go.â I helped her put her jacket back on and we were quickly out of the restaurant and back into the car heading through the city again. Next stop was a bar weâd been to a few times to enjoy a few drinks and the live music they had there every night before our final stop. âDrinks at The Viceroy?â
âSort of,â I replied as I took her hand helping her out of the car. Once inside the lobby I headed to the elevators. I knew the life sheâd lived in New York and how her head was thinking. She assumed weâd head up to the roof for one last drink before heading home. When we stopped on the 28th floor I watched her face change a bit, especially as I unlocked the door to Suite 57.Â
âWhat did you do?â she asked as she walked over to the wall of windows in the living room of the suite, complete with views of Central Park.
âI wanted tonight to be special.â Her eyes softened as she turned around to look at me. She held her hand out towards me. As our fingers touched she pulled me into her and kissed me. When I looked down at her I saw her eyes misting over a bit. âAre you crying?â
âNo, but you are too perfect.â
âI donât really think so, but I wanted tonight to be as perfect as it could be. The last month has been incredible. You make every day of my life immensely better than they were before I knew you. I donât know how Harper and I were so lucky to find the empty seats beside you and Finn in that doctorâs office. That morning changed my life.â
âMine too.â
âJane Grey Finnigan, I love you.â I heard her breath catch and watched as she closed her eyes. That was when the first tear fell.
âI love you too.â
âDonât just say it because I did. Our histories are different. You can take the time you need to tell meâŚâ
âHarry, just shut up for a second.â She started to laugh at me. âHonestly, I was pretty sure I wasnât ever going to find love again when Greyson died. That Iâd had my chance, Iâd gotten my one true love and was going to live the rest of my life alone. But you walked into that waiting room and changed my world. You have made me believe that itâs possible for me to love again and Iâve nearly shouted this at you every time you walk out the door to go home at night for the last week, I love you.â I bent down to kiss her and just as they had before in the bathroom at her house my hands wandered down to her ass, only this time I did pick her up and carry her into the bedroom.
I gently laid her down on the bed before laying on top of her. Weâd done this before. Weâd made out, weâd fooled around. Weâd gone so far as to see each other naked a few times but until this point sex had been off the table. She was healing from a battered past, one that I didnât want to complicate by forcing the issue of sex too soon. Waiting had been hard because she was unbelievably beautiful and everything about her enticed me. But Iâd waited patiently for her to be ready. Sheâd started to hint that she was. Sheâd take things a little farther than sheâd originally been comfortable with. Sheâd started getting ballsy enough that when weâd be up at night after kids were asleep having a glass of wine that sheâd start to ask me what I was into sexually. Favorite positions? Best place Iâd ever had sex? The kinds of things you talked about with a best friend but not often with a women youâd never gotten that intimate with. I knew it was her journalistic mind, always filled with questions and wanting to do her research.
âJanie, if you arenât ready for this, we donât have to,â I said as she pulled my shirt off and started for my pants.
âIâm okay.â She kissed me again as our clothes quickly made their way to the floor. We were slow. We were careful. This wasnât something to do without thinking it through completely. It wasnât just our lives that would be interrupted if we moved too quickly or messed things up. No longer was it a fling or just a pretty girl to chase. This woman consumed my every thought and emotion. This was something we couldnât take back, something that would propel us into a different universe in our relationship.
âYou are so beautiful,â I muttered against her skin. The connection I felt with her was more than just carnal desire. It was like our souls were bonded together. Our bodies moved in sync. She was timid, which was to be expected. Her eyes showed that she trusted me though. She knew I would get her through this hurdle she was facing. She hadnât trust a man in this manner in a long time.Â
She finally laid with her head on my chest as my fingers ran through her hair. She was tracing the tattoos that covered my chest. She was quiet and I didnât want to force her to talk.
âWhat a dangerous night to fall in love,â I quietly sang. She glanced up as a smile spread across her face. âDonât know why we still hide what weâve become. Do you want to cross the line, weâre running out of time. What a dangerous night to fall in love.â
I canât wait to hear what you thought of this little piece. Their first âI love yousâ and first time together from Harryâs perspective. Someday I might write it from Janieâs because she had to have a million thoughts running through her head in the process.
Now to get back to work on the multi-part piece Iâm working on.
xx AM.

If I Go Back In Time Part 2
I realized that were I to actually pitch the movie, the executives and producers would probably ask about more movies going forward. After all, this is supposed to be a cinematic universe to compete with Marvel. I've given it some thought- firstly, the casting of the heroes will be the same, because as far as I'm concerned they all did okay. Secondly, here's a list of possible films in my version of the DCEU:
Man of Steel 2
Plot: See the old post.
To Be Released: Given I said I'd go back to 2012, earliest release would probably be mid 2014
Marketing Notes: Keep it to a minimum. Maybe 2 trailers and a handful of tv spots. Around 4 minutes of footage total, all of it from the first half of the movie. Lower people's expectations a little so they can be surprised if it's any good.
Wonder Woman
Plot: Mostly the same as the one we got for real, but a few significant changes...
Lois Lane is the one conversing with Diana about the photograph, not Batman.
Ares did not kill all of the gods, they simply withdrew from the world of man once humans got too violent. They're in some pocket dimension version of Mount Olympus, waiting for future movies.
Diana does not think that Danny Houston's character is Ares. But she does think he knows where Ares is, because she has a very black-and-white view of the world right now, and Steve told her that Britain and their allies were the good guys. So obviously Ares is on the side of the 'bad' guys, the Germans.
Towards the middle of the movie, when Charlie the sniper is having his breakdown, Diana takes him aside and tells him that the older Amazons still have nightmares about battles from thousands of years ago. It's nothing to be ashamed of. It tends to help them when their friends are nearby. Now, they're not going to force him to fight, but they do want him to come with them. After all, if he stays, who will sing for them? I just think that having that conversation beforehand would be a bit more respectful of his condition. Also it comes back in the climax, Diana at one point has a gun to the back of her head in the middle of a fight, and Charlie shoots the guy first.
When Ares shows up towards the climax, he's actually a good guy who's been trying to end the war peacefully. Turns out, the mythology Diana was taught was wrong. The gods withdrew towards the end of the reign of the first Amazon queen, Otrera. Otrera according to the real world myths had a fling with Ares, which probably ended badly. Here, she would have lied about the reason for the gods' leaving just because she doesn't like Ares. And turns out, mankind really are just a bunch of warmongering assholes. Sometimes.
The real big bad is Doctor Poison. She uses Diana's discarded sword to stab Ares in the back, poisons Diana to weaken her, then huffs some of her own super-serum gas to make the boss battle a fair(-ish) fight.
When Steve comes up to Diana to tell her about his plan to destroy the plane, she can hear him and actually gives him her blessing. So no more 'hung up on her ex' version! It's just not possible if she told him to do it.
There are a couple bits of set up for the next film. First, at some point underwater ruins are mentioned, and Diana asks if Atlantis has fallen in the war. Steve asks if it actually exists, to which Diana replies, âLast time I knew...â The second part is a mid-credits scene where Lois sends Diana another message, asking her to look at a video. The video is exactly the same as the one we got in BvS, of Aquaman underwater stabbing the camera with his trident. During the clip, we hear a part of what will be Aquaman's theme, same as how WW's theme played in her pre-credits scene.
To Be Released: Probably late 2015, early 2016
Marketing Notes: Nothing is released or announced regarding this film until after MoS 2 has been in theaters for a week. I want people to go absolutely fucking apeshit in theaters when they realize that Wonder Woman of all characters will be the next film. Considering how she'd been regarded by Warner Bros. in the past.
The Aquaman
Plot: It's like a crazy Star Wars/Black Panther/Moana fusion. An Operatic Superhero Political-and-Family Drama based out of a futuristic Polynesian magitek version of Atlantis, with only a few scenes above the water.
To Be Released: Mid to late 2017.
Marketing Notes: Don't have a lot of action in the trailers. There will be action in the movie, including a badass final fight, but it'll be less than most superhero films. Focus on the drama in the trailers to accurately represent the movie.
Knight of Gotham
Plot: This movie will be the smallest scale movie in the franchise. It'll focus in on Batman's detective skills more than anything (though he'll still kick major ass). When the movie begins, all of Batman's more famous foes are locked up in Arkham Asylum. He hasn't been seen much lately. So smaller criminals are starting to think it's safe to operate in Gotham again. Mob boss Don Carmine Falcone wants in on it. So he puts out a hit on Commissioner Gordon, the only non-corrupt official in the city. The first taker is Deadshot (setting him up for you-know-what, but a better version). After that a couple of small-time killers. Then Ra's Al-Ghul shows up and tells Batman that every assassin not a part of the League will likely be heading to Gotham to try and kill James Gordon. However, there's only one to really be concerned about: a man named Victor Zsasz. The rest of the film is a cat-and-mouse game between Batman (plus Jim and Batgirl) and Zsasz, culminating in a boss fight that would rival both John Wick movies put together. At the end, Zsasz is a sore loser and blows up Arkham, releasing the villains for future films. At some point, Batman talked to Deadshot in prison and got him to give up Falcone as the one who put out the hit, so Falcone goes to jail and Deadshot is placed in lesser security, with his name marked under the Task Force X label.
To Be Released: Early to mid 2018.
Marketing Notes: Give a significant amount of focus to Batgirl's involvement. People will love that, so long as there's no hint of anything between her and Bruce (there won't be).
Justice League
Plot: We introduce The Flash and Cyborg as a comedic duo of superheroes from STAR Labs, with a dynamic not too dissimilar from Deadpool and Cable, or maybe Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch. The villain of the film is Abra Kadabra, a Flash villain from the distant future who uses nanomachines to do... a lot of different things. He styles himself after a stage magician. As a character in the film, he wants to shunt the Earth into a pocket dimension (make the whole world... disappear!) in order to save it from future disasters. However, the process would kill most of humanity, which is why the League have to stop him. It takes all five powered heroes to hold him down, while Batman delivers the disabling blow using one of his gadgets.
To Be Released: Day after New Year's, 2019.
Marketing Notes: In the film, Abra Kadabra will use his powers to shape shift into the heroes at multiple points. We can use this to run a âWho can you trust?â tagline, with emphasis on the fights, because this movie is spectacle incarnate. With a simple plot.
Man of Steel 3
Plot: This is the one where Lex Luthor reveals his true nature. The big fight will be Warsuit Lex vs Superman. Kryptonite will be introduced here. Other than that, I'm not sure.
To Be Released: Fall 2019.
Marketing Notes: Fake anti-Superman propaganda clips put out by Lex Corp.
Wonder Woman 2
Plot: Villain will probably be Cheetah, since she's the one of the most popular. Might be good to have Diana team up with Flash, just to bring that fun element in, and maybe some time travel stuff. Possibly bringing Steve Trevor back.
To Be Released: Late spring 2020.
Marketing Notes: If Flash is involved, focus on his and Diana's dynamic.
Gotham Sirens
Plot: Catwoman and Lady Shiva have been partners in thievery for a while now. They're hired by Silver St Cloud to steal a sacred amulet (it's actually magic), and they decide to team up with Arkham escapees Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn for the extra muscle. Ivy has her own plans, however, and it involves using the amulet to turn the whole city into a jungle. The reason they needed the extra muscle to steal the amulet is because it was guarded by a private security firm named Grayson and Sons. One guess to who the survivor of the Siren's attack is. Yeah, this movie introduces Nightwing (he skips the Robin identity). He teams up with Batman, Batgirl, and most likely our two thieves to stop Poison Ivy.
To Be Released: Mid fall 2020. Hitting a rhythm now.
Marketing Notes: One half of the material is about the all-girl villain team, the other half is about the growing Bat Family.
Fall of Justice: Tower of Babel
Plot: After Abra Kadabra's tricks, Batman realized how dangerous the rest of the League were and created weapons to stop them if they ever went bad. Unfortunately, someone (maybe Joker? Who would not be played by Jared Leto- I'm thinking Nicholas Hoult, considering his performance as Nux in Mad Max Fury Road) has stolen those weapons and the League is in genuine danger. If not the Joker, perhaps The Rogues came over from Central City and this is Leonard Snart's origin as Captain Cold (the cold gun is in the weapon cache).
To Be Released: Spring 2021.
Marketing Notes: This'll be the darkest entry in the canon so far. Someone will probably die, though who I don't know. Probably a supporting character, but an important one.
There will of course be more movies, but I'm not sure of the order or most of the details. Here's a really quick list:
Constantine (introduce the weird mythos of Dream and the Endless)
Dark Justice (aka, Justice League Dark- the villain will be Enchantress)
Titans (a second superhero team is started by Nightwing and includes Beast Boy, Starfire, and a couple others, and Deathstroke is the villain)
Crisis on Infinite Earths (eventually)
Fall of Justice: The Crime Syndicate (evil versions of our heroes from another Earth)
Flashpoint (without the major reboot aspect)
An Untitled Green Lantern Film (used to introduce planets like Thanagar and Tamaran, as well as the Manhunters)
Identity Crisis (without the âDoctor Light is a serial rapistâ part)
Final Crisis (not the last movie)
Suicide Squad (alternately titled âTask Force Xâ, with a different villain)
Untitled Justice League Sequel (with the Legion of Doom as the bad guys)
Untitled Titans Sequel (with Brother Blood as the villain)
New Gods (I don't know enough about them to even speculate, but this oughta be cool)
Untitled Man of Steel Sequel (uses âDeath of Supermanâ plot)
The Dark Knight Lives (at some point, probably in a League film, Bruce Wayne retired and Batman was believed to be dead. Now he comes back, because Gotham City truly does need him)
Batman Beyond (so it turns out Bruce needs to retire, too, so he finds a protege to take his place)
Justice League Kingdom Come
Man of Steel: Rising Son (deals with the âmultiple heroes trying to be Supermanâ scenario from the comics, before bringing Kal-El himself back)
Shazam
Green Arrow
Untitled Flash Movie
Untitled Green Lantern Sequel
Untitled Justice League Dark Sequel
Blue and Gold (Blue Beetle and Booster Gold buddy comedy film)
All Female Justice League Film
The final film in the entire universe would be titled Fall of Justice: Blackest Night (the âFoJâ title is applied to all the truly dark entries). This is the finale because it would include every character ever introduced in all the films, at least as a cameo; even the dead ones would return as Black Lanterns.

TSE THEORY: antigone shephard is still alive
we gettin crazy under the cut
first: aetius has some connection to antigone. (my personal theory is that heâs her husband because BACK TATTOOS and âgreat-grandparentsâ plural here on 9x42). he guarded melete in herarat for antigone; it would make sense that heâs out hunting hollingsworths in the present timeline on her orders.
second: on the chessboard in 6x08, the queen knocks over the king. the queens in TSE are: antigone, isis, gudrun, and queen leto. the queen in question has to be antigone because leto and isis are confirmed dead; and while gudrun hates bay, thereâs no reason she would want him publicly assassinated (in front of their child, no less). antigone, with a known history of hollingsworth genocide and axe murderer association, is the only logical explanation. (ok iâm pretty sure the guy in the theatre is actually mr. st. claire, but thatâs a whole other can of worms)
third: 14x17, âwhatâs the point of killing her?â people in the comments assume this means bay and/or melete killed antigone, but thereâs no explicit confirmation antigone is actually dead!! in this entire scene, blue seems really, really defensive and almost ashamed. she goes to ridiculous lengths to cover her involvement with axe man from bay. if sheâs also using immortality curses to keep antigone alive.... yikes. i got bad news for you, bay.Â
last: this redacted person on the age chart:
theyâre definitely a shephard, because the length of the last names line up...
...and âantigoneâ about is the right length. it fits with the timeline too, because as apenâs great-grandmother, her age would be somewhere in the hundreds.
any thoughts?
#the silver eye#nerdarians#i get off of my tumblr hiatus and this is what happens#i release the contents of my brain onto my unsuspecting followers; most of whom have no idea what i'm talking about#they're right. this is insane and i have no idea what i'm doing

Couple separated by COVID spent what should have been their wedding day having a 'border date'
Abbotsford resident Savannah Koop and fiance Ryan Hamilton, who lives in Bellignham, Washington, had been looking forward to their May 8 wedding since getting engaged just over two months ago.
But instead of walking down the aisle and saying âI do,â the couple spent what was meant to be their wedding day having an extra-special, physically distanced âborder date.â

Since the border separating Canada and the U.S. was closed to all-non essential travel â an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 â the couple has been stuck in separate countries. They've been making do by meeting up at a spot in the Fraser Valley, where two roads run parallel on either side of the border. They bring lawn chairs, blankets, coffee and snacks, and obey physical distancing requirements by staying firmly planted in their respective countries.
Sometimes, Koop will head out on her skateboard while he hops on a longboard, and cruise down the roads, separated only by a ditch. âThereâs lots of couples and families along the way. Itâs nice to see a community of people trying to make the best of a situation,â said Koop in a video posted to YouTube on May 5.
Koop has been documenting these dates on her TikTok account. To date, their videos have amassed well over 100,000 views.
âAt first, it was just so hard, for so many reasons,â she says in a follow-up video. âObviously, just not being able to see each other, we also had to change all of our wedding plans.â
They began by planning smaller and smaller gatherings, until restrictions made it clear it wasnât a good idea to have any kind of gathering at all. âNow weâre kind of at the point where we donât even know when we can have our wedding, because theyâve extended the border closure for another 30 days," she says.

âWeâre just kind of waiting to see what happens, and go from there."
The closure, agreed upon by both countries in March, is currently set to expire on June 21.
When Koop pitched the idea for these physically distanced meet-ups to her fiance after the border closure officially went into effect, âhe didnât really like it,â she says.
âI think itâs just really hard to see someone in person but not be able to touch them or hug them, especially when youâre going through something thatâs really hard, but eventually I think we got really desperate and missed each other, so a couple weeks later we decided weâd try it.â
Koop, on the other hand, was more concerned with following the rules. âI was pretty nervous. I thought, âOh no, like, are we going to get in trouble? Whatâs the border going to say?â We werenât going to try to cross or do anything stupid, but I was just kind of worried that it was something we werenât allowed to do.â
When she finally saw Hamilton on April 1, âI cried, like, the biggest tears,â Koop recalls in the YouTube video. âIt had been like a month since weâd seen each other.â
youtube
She adds: âWe just hung out, and it was just so nice to see each other. Once we did that, we realized it was something that we could do and probably should do more often.â
As for Koopâs nerves about what border patrol might think of these dates, the couple has had no issues. âThey drove by several times and just waved.â
She recommends anyone thinking of following their example to make the effort, but to ensure they respect local laws and regulations while doing so.
âJust do your part to be respectful of [border patrol] and respectful of the border line, we just want to preserve this right and privilege that we have right now, and we donât want to ruin it for ourselves or for other families.â
âItâs really hard to be so close but so far, but itâs nice to have a little bit of hope in such a hard time, and itâs a little bit better than FaceTime.â

Thunderbirds  Chapter: 34
t/w Medical references
I was lying on a bed in a cool, dimly lit room and a television was flickering softly in the corner. My vision was somewhat fuzzy but I could just make out someone sitting on a chair next to me, their attention on the nearly muted screen. This, combined with the acerbic odor of disinfectant and the soft beeps of monitoring equipment told me I was in a hospital, but I couldn't remember why. I tested my limbs, things seemed to still be in place and responding to my instructions, but my vision hadn't quite resolved and my head was pounding. I couldn't see who was in the room with me so I took my best guess.
âRoger?â I asked, my voice surprisingly weak and hoarse. The figure in the chair moved, and I realized it was too big to be Roger.
âButch?â came the response. That was my brother Mitch's nickname for me, earned when, at the age of six, I beat up the neighbor boy who had two years and about twenty pounds on me. Why was Mitch here?
âMitch? What are you doing here?â I asked. He got up from his seat and reached for something behind me.
âWell, fun fact, it's generally two and half hours from Terre Haute to St. Louis, but it's only about 90 minutes when your kid sister is being rushed to the hospital with a head injury.â
âI have a  head injury?â was all I could say. Everything was very foggy. I didn't remember getting hurt.
âGrade Three concussion kiddo. Well done.â
Someone else came into the room just then and I realized Mitch must have been reaching back to hit the nurse call button. The woman in scrubs that materialized at my bedside was slightly plump with curly dark hair and a reassuring smile. âHello sweetie,â she said, squeezing my arm.  âGood to have you back with us again. Can you tell me your name?â
  âJane. Jane Sewell.â
The nurse gave me that reassuring smile again. âGood job. And who's this well-built gentleman at your side?â
I considered giving her a smart ass answer but thought maybe this wasn't the best time. âThis is my brother Mitchell.â
âGood.â She shone a flashlight into my eyes and nodded. âDo you remember who I am?â
âI... no.â I didn't think I'd seen her before. Was this a trick question? She patted my hand.
âI'm Susan,â she supplied. âDo you know where you are?â
  âThe hospital, I guess.â
  âDo you know why?â
  âMitch says I have a head injury.â
âYes, but do you remember that?â I shook my head in response and my stomach lurched. âTry not to move your head too much dear. Do you know what the date is?â
I thought for a minute. âSeptember. No.â Not September. I knew it was summer and I was with Shannon on his tour, why did I say September? âJuly. Seventh maybe?â
  âIt's the ninth,â Mitch supplied.
âHow long was I out?â I asked with alarm.
âJust about 5 minutes initially,â Mitch explained. âBut you keep going in and out and you're not remembering things. It's still the same day though.â He was frowning and looking very concerned. Susan turned her reassuring smile on him.
âThat's perfectly normal this soon after a concussion of this severity. It's nothing to worry about. The doctor will do some more tests in the morning.â
She fussed with the monitors by my bed for a minute and then excused herself. I could feel panic rising up. Everything was so fuzzy. What if this was permanent? My vision swam even further as my eyes started to fill with tears.
Mitch sat back down in his chair and took my hand. âIt's okay kiddo. We're going to get you through this. Please don't cry. It will all look better tomorrow. You'll see."
We sat quietly for a while, while I tried to remember more about what had happened. I think Mitch was waiting to see if I would pass out again. âCan I try asking you a question again, Jane? Roger didn't exactly explain things very well.â
âWhere is Roger?â I asked. It seemed strange that Mitch was the only one there with me.
âThat's part of the question. The last time I spoke to you, you were going to take a few days off from your nice quiet book tour to rest up since the girls were sick and your visit was canceled. How did we get from there to Roger helping Jared Leto bail your boyfriend the drummer out of jail for beating up your fiance?â
I think I would have had a hard time sorting that sentence out even if I hadn't had a head injury. âUhm... what? Shannon is in jail?â
Mitch nodded. âAnd so is Angus, although from what I can gather no one is unhappy about that. I know I'm not.â
Mitch had never liked Angus. I wrote it off as protective older brother syndrome. God, how many warning signs had I ignored? I couldn't remember why Angus was here though or why Shannon would have been in a fight with him and I still didn't know what had happened to me. âI don't know exactly. How many times have we had this discussion, Mitch?â
âAbout three. And you'll probably forget this conversation too, so I'm going to tell you good riddance to that guy. I always thought he was shifty. And I love you, Butch. Don't you ever scare me like this again.â
When I woke up again the room was still dark and the TV was off but there was light coming in from the hallway. I could feel something heavy pressing down on my stomach and my still rebellious eyes could just make out the head of someone who had fallen asleep there.
âMitch?â I asked, my voice a little stronger than before. I reached for their hair and realized it was too dark to be Mitch or Roger. âShannon?â
He quickly sat up and turned his head to me. His face looked distorted even after he leaned forward and it took me a minute to realize it wasn't my vision this time. He had a large bruise on one side of his face and his lip was split.
âJaney, hey, you're awake,â he said, a big smile filling his face. âDo you need anything?â
I started to shake my head but remembered Susan's earlier admonishment. âNo. Well, maybe some water.â
He poured me a cup from the little bedside pitcher and inserted one of those bendy straws in it, the ones I remembered being so excited to get in my milk in kindergarten. He held the cup for me while I took a drink, and the cool liquid felt good on my parched throat. With a sigh I let my head fall back to the pillow. âWhat happened?â I asked.
âWell, in true Jane fashion, you managed to trip over your own feet and hit your head on the only rock in giant cleared field.â The voice was Roger's this time, and as he spoke he emerged from the shadows of the room. His face was unblemished but his arm was in a sling.
âWell, that explains me, what the hell happened to you two?â
They exchanged significant looks before Roger finally answered. âWhen the paramedics got there Angus tried to convince them that you two were actually married and that we were your junkie buddies come to seduce you back into a life of crime and depravity.â
âHe had something, Jane, some paperwork...â Shannon interjected but Roger made a hushing motion.
âI called Mitch right away but by the time the cops got on scene and they were getting ready to take you away in the ambulance, well you were really out of it and Angus got you confused and you told them it was true.â
âI did what?â I asked. "I told them what?"
âI figured we needed a distraction. So I decked him,â Shannon said, unable to hide his satisfaction at finally getting a swing in at Angus.
âIt pretty much turned into an all-out brawl from there,â Roger continued.
âI had to get eight stitches,â Shannon informed me with a proud grin, showing me a spot on his scalp. I gingerly threaded my fingers through his hair to touch the bandage.
âAnd I sprained my wrist,â Roger explained, raising his arm. âBut the cool thing is, Angus punched a cop.â
  âThat's cool?â I asked, confused.
âIt means he's still sitting in jail right now and we're probably going to be getting off with a warning. Jared already called the lawyers.â Shannon explained.
Well, it wasn't nearly the amount of trouble Angus deserved but at least I didn't have the worry of dealing with him hanging over my head anymore. âWait, what paperwork? You said he showed them paperwork?â
âI don't know exactly, Jane,â Roger told me while shooting Shannon another look. I figured that was pretty much bullshit but I didn't have the energy right now to argue. âI remember,â I said.
Roger looked hopeful. âYou remember what happened?â
âNo. But I remember waking up before when you guys weren't here yet. That's the first time I've remembered something since they brought me in here I think. So that's an improvement right?â
âSure it is,â Roger said, leaning over to kiss my forehead. âWhat's the last thing you remember before that?â
I reached back through the fog. âSoundcheck. You and I were watching the guys do their soundcheck and you kept checking your phone.â
Roger nodded. âNoemi called me that morning. She said Angus was acting funny and she thought he might have figured out something was up. She was supposed to call me back when she knew more. Of course, I never dreamed he'd show up in St. Louis...â
âOh, Shit!â I exclaimed and was immediately sorry as the throbbing in my head exploded into a red haze. I gritted my teeth before continuing. âWhat about the show?â
Shannon sighed. âWe didn't play. We were too busy trying to convince the police that we weren't some mastermind criminals out to do you harm.â
I winced. âI'm so sorry Shannon. I hope you guys aren't in too much trouble.â
âNo, it's going to be okay. But I do have to be in Milwaukee for the next show day after tomorrow.â He looked at the clock. âOr tomorrow I guess.â
âAnd your shoot Roger?â I asked, knowing full well that Roger would never leave me like this.
âForget about it. It's just one job. I need a little time off anyway.â
âWell, I guess we can drive to Milwaukee once they cut me loose tomorrow. We should have plenty of time to get there before they need him. Or maybe we could catch a flight in the morning?â I wanted to catch up with the band as soon as possible and put this sorry state of affairs behind me.
âNo, no, no, Miss-50-First-Dates. You're not going anywhere for a couple of days and then it's straight to Mitch's until you're cleared to fly.â
I started crying, even though I couldn't quite articulate why. âMy tour?â I asked between sniffles.
  âLast two weeks are canceled.â
I considered the mess I had made: Mitch's mad dash across state lines, Angus in jail for assaulting a police officer, Shannon on bail, the guy's injuries, the missed performance, Roger's canceled gig and two weeks worth of canceled appearances for me. âAm I in trouble?â
âNo, no one is in trouble. Accidents happen, promoters have insurance to cover these things, everything is going to be just fine. Stop worrying and just get better.â Roger fiddled with his phone for a minute, contemplating something, before continuing. âMitch fell asleep in the lounge. I'm going to update him. Be right back.â
Once Roger was gone I scooted as far over in the bed as I could. âLay down with me for a few minutes?â I asked Shannon.  Carefully he climbed into the small space next to me, tangling me up in his arms and legs and with great care, pulling my head against his warm chest. âI'm sorry for getting you mixed up in all this,â I told him. I was beginning to feel like I had blown into his life like an F5 tornado, leaving chaos and destruction in my wake. âI've really managed to turn your life upside down. Maybe Jared was right about me after all.â
âNo he wasn't and he doesn't think so either. Don't worry about all this. It will be fine. At least you're back in my life. I'll take whatever happens from there.â He pushed an errant curl back from my forehead. âGo back to sleep. They said you're going to be tired for a while and the doctor will be here early.â
I wanted to argue but I could already feel my limbs growing heavier and my breath deepening. At least my nostrils were now filled with Shannon's familiar notes instead of the hospital.
âGood morning, Jane, I'm Dr. Britton. How are you today?â Once again someone was shining one of those annoying lights in my eyes and I was finding my patience was nil this morning.
âTired.â I snapped. âReady to get out of here.â
âWell let's see what we can do to make that happen.â The tall woman in front of me seemed completely unconcerned with my foul mood, her smile never wavered. âCan you tell me where you are?â
  âSome hospital in St. Louis.â
âBarnes-Jewish Hospital, as a matter of fact. Can you tell me the date?â
I sighed. It wasn't even breakfast time yet and this was already the second questioning I had endured since waking. âSeptember 9th. Well, I guess it would be the tenth now.â
  âAnd the year?â
  â2003.â
âGood girl.â Great. I felt like a Pomeranian. She paused to check my reflexes before moving on and then seemingly satisfied, gestured to the guys who gathered expectantly around my bed. âAnd you know all these people and their relation to you?â
âYes, that's my big brother Mitch. That's my best friend Roger, and my boyfriend, Shannon.â
âVery good. Okay, I'm going to give you a list of things and I want you to repeat it back to me. Tomato, Star, Girl, Red, Box.â
âTomato. Star. Er...â I hesitated for a moment. âGirl. Red. Uh... box.â
âGood.â She made a few notes on my chart. âHow's the headache today? Any better?â
  âNot really, no.â
  âDizziness? Nausea?â
âOnly every time I move my head,â I answered, not bothering to hide my irritation.
âCan you repeat that list again?â
âUhm. Red...â No matter how hard I tried I couldn't conjure the rest of the items from my memory. âNo, sorry.â
Dr. Britton patted my leg reassuringly. âIt's okay. You're improving. Do you remember meeting me when they brought you in yesterday?â
âNo.â I'd have testified in court that I had never seen this woman before, that was how sure I was. I was apparently completely mistaken.
âThat's not unusual. You may never get the memory back of the moments immediately surrounding your accident. I don't want you to worry about that. You seem to be bouncing back very well today. We'll run some more tests this afternoon. You should expect to feel tired for a while, repairing a brain is hard work, but the dizziness and nausea should pass. We'll keep an eye out for any other symptoms. I'm going to have a word with your brother now, okay?â She stepped into the hallway with Mitch, closing the door behind them. I looked to Roger and Shannon, who were still in their clothes from yesterday, looking exhausted. I felt so bad. I hated being the source of all this drama.
Shannon sat down on the edge of the bed and took my hand in his. âThey're not going to let me out of here. I'm not going to be able to go to Milwaukee with you.â I complained.
Shannon's voice was stern when he responded. âYou have no business living out of a tour bus right now anyway, Jane. You gave us the scare of our lives yesterday. You can't think you're just going to hop back up today and go on like nothing happened.â
âI don't want you to go. I know you can't stay but I'm not ready to lose you yet.â I could feel an ache growing in my chest that had nothing to do with any injuries.
âYou're not losing me. I'm going to be on tour until the end of August and as soon as you're able to you can come catch up with me. And I've got a couple of days off next week, I can come see you. It'll be okay Janey, I promise.â He gripped my hand tightly and I could see that he wasn't any happier about leaving me behind than I was having him go, no matter how brave a face he was putting on it.
âIt doesn't feel like it.â I burst into tears, which just made my head hurt that much more. âI'm sorry.â
Shannon leaned in as far as he could before pulling my head against his chest. âDon't worry about it. Doc said you might have some trouble regulating your emotions. I just need you to take care of yourself and get better okay?â
  âOkay.â I sniffled.
I got poked, prodded and questioned so much the rest of the day I was ready to slap anyone that came near me with one of those little flashlights or a cart. They ended up deciding to release me to Mitch's care with instructions to follow up locally with a doctor in Terre Haute. I was not to get on a plane to fly back to New York until that doctor cleared me. Roger had had the presence of mind to get my luggage off the tour bus before they left town, and Mitch loaded it and me into his minivan for the drive back to his place. Roger and Shannon headed for Milwaukee. When I watched them drive off I sobbed like a little girl who'd lost her teddy. It seemed once again Shannon and I were parting in tears.
