Indecent Proposal - Chapter 27
Start from the beginning
Chapter 26
Jared's POV
"Did you catch up with her," I ran to Shannon when I saw him entering the house.
"Yeah. She doesn't want to see you anymore, bro. You really messed up this time," Shannon replied and my heart sank.
I was devastated. Furious. Broken. Everything that Melody was probably feeling at the same time. But that wasn't going to end like that. I had to find that bastard and give him a piece of my mind.
"I may have messed up, but this isn't over. That punk is going to get what he deserves," I was determined to get my revenge and try to fix this unfortunate situation with my Melody. I couldn't let her think I was playing with her when she means everything to me.
"What do you mean," Shannon was confused.
"I'm going back to New York and I'm taking matters into my own hands."
Melody's POV
"Hey, do you think I could stay with you for a few days," I called Jamie on my aimless walk. He was the only person who could understand and be there for me without judging me.
Jamie on the phone " Over here? Why? What happened, are you okay? "
"I don't really know. All I do know is that I need a friend right now."
"Of course. You know you're always welcome here. But just so you know, Karen is here too," Jamie said.
"I know. That makes the situation a bit more difficult but I can't be alone right now and I don't have anywhere else to go," Karen was the one I feared the most. She disapproved of this relationship since I told her about it and now I'm going to face the 'I told you so' I really don't want to hear.
"We'll be waiting for you."
"Thanks. I'll see you in a bit."
Knock, knock...
"Hello there Mrs. Leto," Jamie said with the silliest grin on his face.
"Ha ha, very funny," I replied.
"That's not a face of a newlywed woman," Jamie noticed that I wasn't feeling my best.
"You have no idea," I replied throwing myself into his arms. I missed that hug ever since he was chained to the bed due to his illness.
"Whoa. That's not good," Jamie wrapped his arms around me tightly and felt my sobs starting to intensify. "What on Earth happened? Are you hurt? Where's Jared?"
"I'll need a drink first," I said wiping the tears off my face.
"Why are you crying, sweetie? What did that jerk do now," Karen asked as she handed me a glass of gin.
"He proved to be the bastard you always warned me he would be," I answered and sipped.
"Who's the slut", Jamie asked.
"Oh God, Jamie. It's nothing like that. It's far worse, actually," I answered and stood up to walk my anger away.
I started telling them all about the things that happened to me ever since Jared and I tied the knot, and each event became more unbelievable as the words rolled down my tongue. I couldn't tell if Jamie or Karen was more baffled. I could tell that on some level Karen wanted to give Jared the benefit of the doubt, but after this, Karen would never be able to forgive him. She has always been overprotective of me. Sometimes more than she was of Jamie. Maybe because I was a girl and maybe because I was all alone without my parents. Either way, she would never allow anyone to hurt me without paying for it.
"You're not going back to him, are you," Karen asked after I was done with the story.
"I was hoping I could stay here for a few days. Jared doesn't know where Jamie lives, and the last thing I need is for him to stalk me at home".
"Of course. You'll take the guest bedroom and I'll be home now. You and Jamie have a lot to catch up on, and he doesn't need both of us to babysit him". Karen joked as she winked at Jamie.
"Ha-ha, very funny, mother. I didn't need you to babysit me anyway, but some people ar just impossible to kick out". Jamie went along with his humour.
"I promise I'll stay only for a couple of days until I can figure out how to grab all my stuff without being noticed".
"Don't worry, Melody. You know you can stay here for as long as you need to. But you do know you won't be able to run away from him for long. You are married, after all", Jamie said.
"I was never the one to run away from problems and I'm not about to start doing that now. I just need some time to think. Plus, this whole fake marriage situation suddenly went out of control and it's going to be even more difficult to get out of it. Why did I have to be so stupid to fall in love?"
"The heart wants what it wants, right", Jamie said.
"I wish we could fall in love with our brains. What good is it to follow your heart if it's only going to end up broken in the end?"
My phone kept buzzing ever since I had left Jared's house. Text after text, call after call. Jared was ever so persistent to reach me. Little did he know I was the queen of ignoring. I turned my phone off and went to bed. The entire night was filled with flashbacks of my and Jared's relationship. From the first time we met to all the differences we've had in between to the moment when he proposed this ridiculous arrangement, the proposal itself, marriage and honeymoon to this day here. I have given everything to that man. He has taken my purest feelings, my body, my soul, all of my love.
The next morning I woke up at the crack of dawn. It's safe to say I didn't catch even a wink of sleep and I just wanted the previous day to be over. Waking up in Jamie's home brought back so many memories but quickly brought me back to reality. I need to figure out what I need to do about Jared and our marriage. Do I give him a chance to explain himself? Or should I take the less forgiving way and get my revenge? Who should I listen to this time, my heart or my brain? Love vs reason - the neverending battle that has brought misery to so many lovers.

Presque Vu -- Chapter 38
FOR THOSE NOT AWARE:
Since it’s been a while since I posted this story, let me reiterate: This story contains smut, kink, and sexual themes. This is a poly relationship. There are threesomes. There is BDSM. If this is not for you, that is fine, No judgment here. I have many other stories to choose from. I won’t tag individual chapters in this story, as references are made to all of that repeatedly throughout, so if you can’t read some of it, you probably aren’t going to be able to read most of it, and you really should just move on to another piece.
Raina located a few generously sized wine glasses and set them down on the counter, observing the tiny quiver in her hands as she did so. She told herself to settle down, this was only a chat, she had certainly done far wilder things with Jared than chat. But this was different. Things done in the heat of passion, drunk on lust, were easy for her. Sitting down and calmly, rationally dissecting her feelings on anything wasn't a journey she took to easily. She was determined, however, to get through this...
Looking for the corkscrew, Raina rustled through one of the kitchen drawers but came up empty-handed. With a sigh, she closed that drawer and went to open the next one. In her anxiety and haste, she yanked too hard on the drawer. It came loose from its track with a clatter, sending silverware and kitchen implements spilling across the white tile.
“Dammit!” she exclaimed as she bent down to pick up the mess. “Why the hell does someone who can't cook have this much crap in his kitchen drawers?”
“Because he likes to have other people cook for him. And he has delusions of cooking for himself sometimes,” Shannon chuckled from behind her. He bent down, his eyes crinkled in merriment as they met hers.
Raina gave him a grateful smile. “Oh, sorry. I didn't hear you come back in.”
“It's okay.” His big hand slid across hers as she went to pick up an errant pair of kitchen shears. “Let me get this for you.”
“You can help,” Raina conceded before moving on to some grill skewers that had skittered underneath the edge of the counter.
“You know, you could do to take a few deep breaths while I get this, stubborn girl. Pour some of that wine you have set out.”
“I need the corkscrew. I was trying to find it when...” Raina gestured to the mess on the floor.
Shannon fished around for a minute before locating the needed implement and pressing it into her palm. “Here. Open your wine. I've got this. Jared needs to get the catch on the drawer fixed anyway. It's been broken for months.”
Raina straightened herself up and drew a nice deep, steady, breath in through her nose, held it, then slowly exhaled. Her tension was completely out of proportion to the situation and she knew it. She took a few more calming breaths before opening the wine bottle.
“Did I tell you you look beautiful tonight?” Shannon murmured as he moved in behind her, hands sliding around her waist and crossing her stomach before clutching her against his own warm body.
“Only about a dozen times,” she laughed.
“Well, that's because you do. You look absolutely stunning and it's nothing to do with that dress.”
“Oh? What it is then? The stockings?” she teased.
“No,” Shannon turned her around so that she was facing him. “It's just you. You are shaking off those shadows that you've been carrying with you all this time. The more you do, the more you that comes out. And you are remarkable.”
Raina could feel the blood flushing her checks. “Not feeling particularly remarkable right now. I feel like a big old chicken, too scared of what I want to admit it.”
“That's not honest fear. It's conditioning. The world likes to tell us there's only one way to do things. It's scary when you break away from that in any way, like moving a thousand miles away from home and starting a new life.” Shannon took Raina's chin in his hand and winked at her. She couldn't help but smile back. “Don't get a case of nerves on me now, Rainy Girl. You've come too far.”
Shannon drew the calloused pad of his thumb across Raina's lower lip. Her breathing changed immediately, from something tight and anxious, to quivering but deep breaths that drew in his scent and made her head swim. Her eyes fluttered, her body reacting to his touch and proximity by a curious combination of instinct and habit. When he pressed his body against hers and pushed her back against the counter she offered no resistance. She simply slipped her arms around his shoulder and enjoyed him as his lips claimed hers. When he pulled away, she was disappointed but calmer.
“Hey, I know you guys still haven't done your thing,” Shannon murmured, his voice low and sultry. “And I would love to take you back to the bedroom right now and get you the hell out of this dress. But I need you guys to finish and honestly, I need a few things from my place. Would it be okay with you if I made a quick run over there and then came right back? I can stay if you need me to but...”
“But maybe this would be easier if it were just me and Jared at this point.” Raina finished. “Yeah. You'll be back soon though, right?”
“Of course I will,” Shannon affirmed before kissing her again. “No way am I missing out on time with you.”
Raina managed to sneak one more kiss out of him before heading out the door, still dashing in his black suit. With a satisfied hum, she filled the wine glasses and made her way to the dining room, her mind now happily settled on Shannon instead of worrying over her inhibitions.
She had enough time for a few sips of wine before Jared finally reappeared from the little office, sheets of paper and pencils in hand. He proudly presented Raina with half the stack, and then took the seat next to her.
“Thank you for the wine,” he said as he took a small sip.
Raina laughed. “The wine is for me, let's be honest. You never take more than a few tastes.”
“I know,” Jared agreed with a shrug. “I don't like the feeling of being drunk. Haven't drank in years. But it's nice to enjoy the taste sometimes, and a few sips of wine don't bother me.”
“Does it bother you that I drink?”
“No. You enjoy your wine, but I don't think I've ever actually seen you drunk on it. You don't do it to excess, it doesn't interfere with your work or our relationship, so why would I object?”
“I don't know. It just seems that most people that I've met that don't drink get kind of judgemental about people that do it regularly.”
Jared leaned over and kissed Raina's forehead. “Don't you know by now I'm not most people?”
That made Raina laugh. “I guess I do.”
Jared smiled affectionately at Raina and she reached over and gave his hand a light squeeze before turning her attention to the papers in front of her. “Okay. So what do I do?” she asked him.
“It's pretty straightforward, really. This column here,” he indicated with a tap of his finger, “is for your experience level with that particular activity. You can indicate it however you want, but beginner, intermediate, advanced is probably easiest. If you haven't done it before but you're curious, use a question mark. If it's out of the question, just put a line through the whole thing. You know what hard and soft limits are, right? We've had that discussion?”
“Yes, Jared. We've had that discussion.”
“Good. We'll consider a strikethrough a hard limit. Maybe circle if it's a soft limit? Like, you don't think you'd like it...”
“But it's not 100 percent off the table. Yeah. I understand.”
“Great. Then after that, unless there's a strikethrough, go to the next column and indicate how interested or pleasurable you find the activity, from zero to five. Zero is not at all, five means it's one of your favorite activities.”
“Well, that sounds simple enough.”
“Good. I'll fill one out too and we can compare if you want or just focus on your answers.”
Raina took a big swig of her wine and then turned her attention to the questions in front of her. They started off simply and innocently enough, asking about vagina sex and oral sex, then getting slightly more risque with anal sex and threesomes. Things quickly escalated after that, however, and Raina found herself wading through questions about rope suspension, collars, leashes, gags, and paddles. When she reached questions about branding, knife play, a section ominously titled “Other Body Fluids” she set her pencil down.
“Hey,” Jared said softly as he no doubt took in her tense posture and fixed stare. “I know there's some extreme stuff on here. People are into some pretty wild things, and it's just a comprehensive list. Don't worry about the weird stuff. Just put a line through it and move if it makes you uncomfortable. That's what hard limits are for.”
Raina felt her throat closing as she shook her head. Her eyes with hot with tears and she felt a million miles away from Jared's soft, reassuring voice.
“Raina? It's okay, Babygirl. Talk to me.”
“What's wrong with me?” Raina asked as a hot tear fell onto the paper in front of her. “Am I broken? Is that why I like these things?”
“No. No, no, no, of course not.” Jared grabbed Raina's chair and pulled it back and turned it so that she was facing him. He took her head in his hands and waited until she finally looked up at him. “You are not broken, and neither am I. What question got you this upset? Because, as I said, I know there's some scary stuff on there. Hell, I've been doing this for ages and some of that stuff freaks me out a little. I don't even like to think about it. Kinks are kinks, and I'm not judging, but...”
Raina shook her head. “No. It's not the things I don't like that freak me out. Well, okay, a little bit, but...” She swallowed hard and swiped at her eyes to clear them. “It's what I do like that scares me. It shouldn't by now, I know,” she added hastily as she saw Jared beginning to object. “And if I'm being honest with myself, my earliest sexual fantasies were of things like getting tied up or spanked. It's always been with me. But I'm realizing I like the pain aspect of it. Like a lot. That shouldn't be right, should it? I shouldn't want someone to hurt me …”
Jared took in Raina's tears before simply wrapping his arms around her. The contact and warmth calmed her, and as soon as her breathing normalized, Jared sat back up.
“It's complex. No one really has any concrete answers for all of it. But everyone's brain chemistry is a little different, and pain releases endorphins and serotonin, just like pleasure does. I just think for some people that effect is a little more intense. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you. None of this does.”
“I don't want to feel bad about what I enjoy anymore. But I don't want to walk around broken anymore either. I've had enough of that.”
Jared's expression changed as understanding settled in. “Now I get it. You think because you had a breakdown under very nasty circumstances that somehow means you're broken. You've never been broken, Raina. You've been a little lost, a little underwater, a little in need of a helping hand. But you've never been broken. There are some things I don't think we're meant to manage on our own. Your reaction was understandable. Please stop beating yourself up over it. Forgive yourself.”
Raina nodded, trying to control the teas that caught behind her eyes. “I did. Go through it alone. Dan was never supportive, and my friends didn't understand. Sorrow makes some people want to reach out to you and drives other people away. Unfortunately for me, everyone around me was that second type of person. But I should have known better. I should have … I mean, the therapist said that I picked bad friends, a lousy boyfriend, so it was all my fault,”
Jared wrapped his arms around her again. “Baby, I don't think that's what that therapist meant. If it was, they're an idiot. It wasn't your fault. Please.”
It wasn't your fault. Forgive yourself. No one had ever said that to her before. Not like this. Not this plainly. Not that she had ever really heard, anyway. Forgive yourself. Dear god, why hadn't she? After all this time, why did she still blame herself for grieving the woman who had meant everything to her? Why did she still blame herself for things other people did to her? How much time and energy had she wasted on regret and self-recrimination?
A sort of absolute clarity washed over Raina, and for the first time, in the improbable setting of taking a sex quiz with one of her boyfriends, she let it all go. She grabbed onto Jared as tightly as she could and sobbed her heart out. To his credit, he let her have her meltdown, pulling her shaking body into his lap, clutching her tightly against him as he rocked her.
After what felt like hours, but was probably more like about fifteen minutes, Raina quieted herself again and moved back to her own seat. “Why is that every time I have some sort of emotional epiphany these days it's always while we're talking about sex?”
“Because it's the only time you let your walls down,” Jared explained.
“Yeah. I guess.”
“Do you want to keep going?”
“The bondage quiz or the psychotherapy?”
“Either? Both?” Jared laughed.
“Let me go wash my face first.”
Raina took her time in the bathroom, letting the cool water soothe her blotched skin before touching up her makeup a bit. When she returned to the table she picked up her pencil and finished the questionnaire without another word.
“You're not broken, you know. Really,” Jared told her as she handed him the completed stack of paper. “There are studies. Terms. This isn't a disorder.”
“Okay,” Raina replied. “I think maybe I'm finally ready to accept that. I'm sorry it took such a dramatic turn though.”
“You know, I've never had anyone break down on me before over this, but I've heard of it happening. It's more difficult for some people to process. You know you can always talk to me though, right?”
“I do. It's just not in my nature. I get that from my grandmother, I think.”
“Well, can we work on that a little more? I know my last attempt at compelling you to open up didn't work so well,” he chuckled. Raina blushed at the memory of that intense afternoon that had left all three of them a little shaken up. “But I do think we need to do a better job of communicating.”
“I can agree to that.”
“Good.” He turned his attention back to the papers in his hand. “Do you want to discuss this or should I just look through it? Do you want to see mine?”
“You can just look through it and then talk to me about anything you need to talk to me about. And of course, I want to see yours. I want to please you. A map would help.”
Jared smiled and slid his questions across the table to Raina. He leaned back in his seat and began scanning her own questionnaire. “Well, that's surprising,” he remarked after a minute.
“What is?”
“My, my. We are going to have some fun,” he chortled, a lewd grin on his face.
“What are you looking at?” Raina demanded in a bit of a panic, trying to see where on her quiz he was looking.
Jared clutched the pages against his chest before tapping his finger on the table. “Nope. You passed up the chance to discuss it. Eyes on your own paper.”
“Wait, I didn't mean we couldn't discuss it all. I just meant...”
“No, it's fine. I've got this. No questions for the witness, your honor.”
Raina laughed. “Oh, come on. I thought you wanted more talking.”
“Oh, I think we'll be talking quite a bit. But let me finish.”
Raina scowled playfully at him before looking back at the sheets in front of her. She was relieved to see that most of his answers either matched hers or were at least things she was comfortable with exploring. Some of the questions had been rather unsettling. Then came the inevitable snag. “Uhm, Jared?”
“Yes?”
“There's one here … mummification? That's where your whole body is wrapped up really tight, right?”
“Yes.”
“You have that as a four. That means you really like to do that to your partner, right?
Jared sighed. “Yes. And I see you put a line through it, so that's a hard limit.”
“So, what does that mean? You really like it, but....”
“It means that we won't do that.”
Raina sighed. “But you really like it, and ...”
“It's a hard limit for you. It is, isn't it?”
“It sounds scary and not even a little bit sexy. I guess I'm kind of claustrophobic. So yeah. But you're at a four...”
“It doesn't matter. If you aren't comfortable and enjoying yourself then it's going to be a zero for me. That's how this works.”
“I guess.”
“No, not you guess. Definitely. That's absolute how this works and how it is supposed to work. None of this is enjoyable or even okay if only one person likes it. Otherwise, what is the point of doing this questionnaire?”
“You won't feel deprived?”
Jared laughed. Raina realized he had been laughing a lot tonight, but she never felt like any of it was condescending. He seemed to be enjoying all this. “Babygirl, did you look at my sheet? Have you seen how many things I marked? I promise I can find plenty of ways to amuse myself that you will enjoy.”
This led Raina to another question, one that had been circling her brain for weeks now. “You always say you have to hold back with me. The one time I thought we really let loose, you said that wasn't even that intense for you. So what is?"
Jared's eyes fixed on Raina, his pupils large, no doubt owing to the sexy nature of their discussion. It made him look darker, almost predatory, and Raina shivered. He looked at her for a long moment before grabbing the sheets in front of her and spreading them out.
“There,” he said, pointing to a section under “Impact Play”. “And there.” This time he indicated a section under “Gear”. Then he drew a circle with his finger around the entire “Predicament” subsection. “And that.”
Raina blinked at him, and her pulse quickened. Those sections had a lot of question marks for her, but also her biggest concentrations of fours and fives. She wasn't sure if the tingles running through her limbs now were fear or arousal, and her imagination had started to run wild. “Sir,” she managed to squeak out, suddenly unable to speak his name.
Jared quickly flipped to those sections on her sheets, taking them in. He let out a deep breath. “Well,” he turned back toward her, his eyes darker than before, his almost menacing leer making Raina's mouth run dry. “I think you can stop worrying about mummification. I think we're going to find plenty of ways to amuse each other.”
“What's up, sex nerds?” Shannon's playful voice called from the entryway as he slammed the door behind him. Raina and Jared both jumped at his sudden reappearance, and Raina felt her cheeks heating up as her gaze dropped to her lap. “Put down those number two pencils. It's naked time.”

Nadia and I stumbled into the house, giggling at a joke Mark had cracked. It was good to see him act like this. To just let go and relax. I hadn't seen him dance in years, so tonight definitely was a good night.
"What are you devil ladies laughing about over there?" I heard Shannon ask as he stepped into the house.
"Nothing." I smiled, walking up to him and lowering my voice just so he could hear. "How about I show Mark and Nadia to their room and then we can have some fun of our own?"
"Do you think that's wise?"
"What?" I frowned up at him.
"Putting them two together in a room? I mean, what if-?" The sound of kissing interrupted Shannon, making me laugh. "Nevermind. Meet ya upstairs, babe." There it was again. That attempt at a wink that always made my stomach flutter.
"Okay, lovebirds, you can mack on each other in the bedroom. C'mon..." I tugged on Nadia's arm, shooting Mark a smile at his blush. Nadia was quick to follow me. "Yo, Mark. You coming? Or are you sleeping out here in the cold?"
He shook his head, laughing and following us up the stairs into the secondary guest bedroom. I pulled Nadia into a hug, smiling and whispering in her ear "Be sure to wear protection!", which earned me a slap on the arm.
Mark had retreated into the room, Nadia's expression softening as she looked at me. "Thank you, for trying to set us up together."
"I don't know what you're talking about." I winked. "Now, go get him, tiger."
She giggled as I slapped her butt, running into the bedroom and closing the door. I shook my head, smiling and heading towards the bedroom.
The sight that greeted me was definitely a pleasant one. Shannon laid on the center of the bed, clad in nothing but a smirk, his cock standing proudly, making me purr.
I locked our door just in case, shedding my clothing as fast as I could and crawling up on the bed. Just his scent invading my senses was enough to make my head spin. Somehow, it was enough to clear my head of my inebriation.
Our lips locked on each other, our hands roaming astray as we tried to remain quiet. Pulling back, I smirked up at Shannon, pushing at his chest. He got the hint, laying back down on the bed as I threw my leg over his head, positioning myself over his mouth.
He immediately gripped my hips, tugging me closer as he wasted no time in lapping at me, making me bite my lip so hard it almost bled. "Fucking hell, Shannon. Give a girl some time."
He slapped my ass, making me groan, his voice coming out muffled. "No can do. You taste too fucking good."
Shivering at his ministrations, I wrapped my hand around his cock, swirling my tongue around the head. I could feel him buck his hips impatiently. Allowing him some small mercy, I took him into my mouth, moaning around him and feeling his moans intensify everything.
We drove each other almost to the breaking point before I turned around and sank on his cock. I couldn't keep the moans in as his hands went to my waist, helping me move on top of him.
The minute his honey eyes locked on mine, everything slowed down, his hands slowly caressing my body. "You're so fucking beautiful..." Shannon whispered, my heart doing somersaults in my chest as I bent down to kiss him.
The angle was just right, the pressure just enough to keep me on the edge. It didn't take long until we let go, shaking and moaning against each other. His arms wrapped around me, keeping me pressed to him were enough to make me drift off into dreamland... I always felt so safe with them around me...
When I woke up the next morning, I was alone in bed. The smell of breakfast was coming from downstairs, making my stomach rumble. I took a quick shower, getting dressed before heading downstairs.
"Blue, good morning. How did you sleep?" Mark asked, moving over to me and shocking me by wrapping his arms around me.
"Good. You?"
"The best I've gotten in a while." He said, winking. He motioned me over to the table. "Guys, I have some news to share!" Everyone seemed to be leaning in, antecipating what he was gonna say. "I got a very happy call this morning."
"Don't do that, idiot. Just tell us!" Nadia snapped, whacking him in the back of the head.
"All right, all right, bossy lady." He laughed, the corners of his eyes crinkling. "I got a call from the forensics team. They have Stephanie in custody and they have enough proof to charge her with malicious destruction of property and vandalism. She's going to jail for a very long time."

Jared Leto Daughter Imagine: Artifact
Request: (anon) Can you make the christmas tree headcanons a full imagine? Can I request that it would be what jareds daughter would be like during the filming of the whole documentary artifact 😊 (edit: can her name be gregan)
////////
It was six in the morning and she already heard the anger in his voice down stairs. The sun was barely rising over LA when Gregan got out of bed and threw on one of her fathers flannels over her nightgown. She tip toed out of her room and sat at the top of the stairs just behind the wall above the studio and living room so her father wouldn’t see her.
Jared did his best to shield her from the situation, it was part that he didn’t want her to worry and part that he didn’t want her to see him in a time when he thought he failed. He put his head in his hand holding his phone with the other in silence listening to the man on the other end. It was worse than he thought. Way worse.
Gregan had never seen her father like this before, so unsure and without his usual confidence. She felt an urge deep down in her stomach to run to him and throw the phone across the room and just hug him. But the practical part held her back, she knew he got more upset when business was interrupted. His voice started t raise and match the person on the other end of the line. He got up and started pacing back and forth taking moments to pause and breath out looking over LA. She hated how life had been lately. It wasn’t the usual happiness that she had always known. Her father was distant and distracted by work more than usual. she wanted his attention for herself and to help him.
To hell with it, Gregan thought, he’d never get mad at her for interrupting. She stood up revealing herself and quickly and as quietly as possible made her way down the stairs. Jared heard her bare feet pattering across the tile and turned to face her Gregan stopped in her tracks when she saw his face. He was tense and angry and the veins under his eyes told her he hadn’t slept. But once she stopped and he fully took in her sight, his eyes grew a bit more tender. His face stopped showing his anger and started showing his exhaustion. He opened his mouth to say something but it was like an invisible force stopped him.
His daughter ran up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist taking him in her tiny hug. She could tell he was weak because he almost fell back when she collided with him. He let out a small relieved sigh before taking her hand and leading her over to the couch. He sat down and leaned his head back still listening on the phone as she cuddled next to him. She intertwined her arms with his and rested her chin on his shoulder while throwing her feet across his legs. Jared could tell she wasn’t acting her usual self either. But there was nothing he could do about it now with his head scattered besides hold her close.
Gregan wanted to protest and speak up against the person now yelling at her father but when she looked up at him he shot her a stern look, always knowing what his little girl was thinking. She listened for what seemed like forever before Jared finally threw the phone down at his side on the couch. He didn’t say a word, just wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her onto his lap and cuddled her next to him. Gregan could feel his heart pounding and didn’t know how else to help beside rest her cheek against his chest.
..........
“I just want to feel good” Jared said, laughing nervously. The camera crew was crowding around them. Jared had his daughter playing off to the side, not wanting her on camera for these moments and when she didn’t have to be.
Shannon took a moment to think, wondering of what to say to guide his little brother. No matter how old they got Shannon wanted to protect him, and Jared wanted to be protected. But still Shannon was just as exhausted as his brother and everyone else in this lawsuit debacle.
“This whole thing doesn’t feel good. It’s not supposed to feel good, this whole thing” Shannon started to animate his words with his hands, a habit Jared had as well, both inherited from their mother. “You’ve got the unstable client, you’ve got the unstable EMI. It’s all unstable” Shannon’s intent was to talk and make Jared feel better, but it became clear after a while that he was also speaking for himself. “ So there’s no feeling that’s gonna be attached to like ‘oh’. You’ve got the album we’re doing, everything here is a little unstable”.
Jared ran his hand over the scruff on his chin and breathed out deeply. Just hearing the world album, it filled him with so much hope and fear all at once. this next album meant everything, the lawsuit and the record label could go to hell but this album was going to be the thing to pull them out of this pit if not financially, emotionally and mentally. As much as Jared wanted to pretend he was a little boy again and get lost in a fantasy pretending it would be okay, he knew his big brother was right. It wasn’t okay. He looked over at his daughter, innocently playing off while him and Shannon talked. That was what he was most afraid of. Jared snapped his fingers and pointed down at the ground. That was his way of telling the cameras to go off, by now the crew knew it meant he was going to talk about his daughter.
“You know what pissed me off most about these mother fuckers? When they sued us it wasn’t just... us. I have a kid to take care of man. What if...” Jared froze and opened his eyes wide before blinking, holding back tears.
“Nothing is going to happen to that little girl man, you’d never let that happen. I wouldn’t. Tomo wouldn’t” Shannon said in a low voice, not wanting to alert his niece. “I mean we may be fucked” he laughed trying to lighten the situation “but she’ll always be taken care of”.
“30 million dollars dude, if we lost this I don’t know where that leaves the family” it pained Shannon to see his brother, always the dreamer, talk like this. Jared continued to keep his eyes on his daughter, wondering if her change in attitude was just a reflection of his or if there was something deeper she wasn’t saying.
“Remember we were way worse off.... and did mom ever let us down?”
Jared looked at his brother and cracked a half smile, that was all the answer Shannon needed. He felt the phone in his pocket begin to vibrate and pulled it out, his lawyer. Shannon gave Jared a knowing look before walking over to pick up Gregan. She had become accustomed to the looks her father and uncle were giving, so she knew there was tension in the air.
Once inside the house they joined her dad on the couches outside the studio. She looked through the glass door as best she could and saw copious food wrappers and coffee mugs, signaling thy had been in there all night. More like every night the past few months. The camera men resumed filming Jared and Gregan watched them more comfortably. At first she was nervous around them, not wanting anymore bad people around her dad, but as they were around for a few months she grew to understand what was happening. The way Jared explained it, was he wanted both him and her to be able to look back on these days when hopefully things were better, and remember how bad it could be. Jared was worried that might be too morbid for her, but it was the only way he could explain what was happening without fully explaining it.
Gregan settled next to her uncle and watched her father on the phone. He was dressed unusually. Just plain black pants and a plain black long sleeve with his hair tied back in a low bun. It was unusual for him. No flannel, no scarfs, not even his echelon necklace. Jared had been too distracted and too determined to get this situation fixed that some days he didn’t even have time to look in the mirror or dress how he usually wanted. Shannon tickled Gregan’s sides to make her smile, but it just made her uncomfortable not to be able to hear what her dad was saying.
“Hey kid come here!” Shannon said picking her up in his his bear hands as her father called them. He held her against his chest in a hug and she couldn’t resist but to wrap her arms around his neck tightly. Shannon did give the best hugs. To tell the truth, Gregan needed one badly. She may have been too young to understand exactly what was happening but she knew something was up. Knowing that however didn’t change the fact that she needed love. Sometimes Jared got so consumed in his work she feared he forgot about her. “Don’t worry about your daddy all right? He’s got everything under control”.
“I’m gonna have to tell them they can suck my fucking proverbial dick” Jared said annoyed across the room.
“Well.... “ Shannon said looking at the floor with a small smirk over her shoulder “I have everything under control if he doesn’t”.
Gregan laughed ad it felt so good. It had been a while since the house, usually so filled with music and life, had heard her genuine laugh. It caught both brothers off guard and they smiled wide not even knowing it. When Jared heard his daughter laugh like that, it ignited a fire inside of him, one he had been dying to feel the warmth of for months. He made up an excuse to hang up on his lawyer and put his phone away. He went over to his brother and stole his little girl from his arms. The camera men took the rare opportunity to capture the father and daughter on tape in a happy moment. If it didn’t make the final cut, they at least wanted the family who they had grown to love have these special moments saved.
Reality was quickly knocked back in with a knock on the door. Gregan suddenly shot her head up off her dad’s shoulder and kicked her feet for him to put her down.
“Uncle Tomo!” she called out running to the door. Jared took a seat next to his brother and waited for their third musketeer to enter.
Tomo and Gregan’s shrieks of excitement echoed through the house. No matter how shitty the situation every single person could count on Tomo to make it better and make them smile. he walked in carrying Gregan in one arm and his guitar in the other with a duffle bag swung around his back. When he set her down she ran back over to her dad’s side, wanting to keep the smile he had on his face.
“Well fucking finally” Jared teased him wrapping his arm around his daughter.
“Sorry sorry sorry!” Tomo said dropping his bags on the floor and lounging on the opposite couch. “So we getting started now or is there time for a beer first?” Tomo asked knowing once they got started he wouldn’t see day light for what felt like years.
“You guys relax while I’ll take this little one to bed okay?” Jared whisked Gregan up and headed up stairs. Over his back she waved to her uncles and they blew her kisses. She wanted desperately to stay with them and keep her eyes open but as soon as she felt the warmth of her fathers chest she drifted off to sleep.
..........
The months continued to drag on, each day not getting too much easier, some worse. The LA skyline that Jared usually felt comfort in seemed like a burden when it shined through his windows. December already. It was days like this when he missed the snow, it was rare that he missed much from his childhood, but it had it’s moments. He threw his covers off and picked up his glass of milk from the nightstand to take down stairs. If he didn’t have his life together he at least wanted his room to be neat.
He didn’t even bother to change out of his blue pajamas, it was one of those days where he needed full comfort. he poured out his glass in the sink and let the water run for a few moments as he stared at his awards placed over the sink. MTV awards, music awards, he told everyone they were over the sink for laughs but a part of him wanted them there to remind him first thing when he woke up. At least he made something of himself. There was a time when he thought he’d never even own a house.
He thought back twenty year in the past, when he left home and was sleeping on the beaches of LA without work. Just a backpack and some money, now he had a beautiful home in the hills he thought he’d have to rob to get into.
“Daddy?” he heard behind him and switched off the water. His daughter was in her pajamas, holding her stuffed animal, and rubbing her eyes. Gregan thought catching him early in the morning would be a good opportunity to have him all to herself. No work, no phone calls, just her dad and her. It felt like forever in her short life where she really got to connect with him again.
“Hey baby” he said walking over and lifting her up onto the island in the kitchen. “How my angel with morning?”
“Good” she said looking out the window and in an instant she woke fully up and looked at him with the big blue eyes he had passed onto her. “Wait it’s christmas!” all the days felt the same to her as well, she almost forgot it was December.
Jared leaned down to her with both hands on either side on the counter and placed a kiss on her forehead “Well we still got about 3 weeks baby”.
So! we need a christmas tree!” she said full of delight.
Jared hadn’t even given it thought, he felt overwhelmed at the thought of even celebrating christmas and ashamed for thinking he could pass it on and not celebrate with her.
“How about we get some breakfast first and then we’ll talk okay baby? Pancakes?” he tapped her noise with his finger making her giggle.
“Yes please!”
...........
“it’s the moment of truth and the moment to fight....” Jared sang soft and slow as he practiced the guitar strings.
Shannon was over at his drums and Tomo was experimenting on his instrument. Gregan was laying across the bench in the studio watching all of them intently. She was happy to see them busy and not fighting for once with anyone. But still it had been hours since her dad and her talked about the tree and she was done waiting. She sat up and hoped down marching over to him.
“Daddy!” she said with confidence but he couldn’t hear her over his headphones. She stood on her tiptoes and pulled them off herself. “I said daddy!” she repeated herself annoyed.
Jared sighed looking down at her as gently as he could, “what is it baby?”
“You promised we could get the tree today”.
“I said no such thing! Where do you get this stuff?” he continued to play his guitar shrugging it off.
“It’d make me happy” Gregan replied, her voice taking a turn that Jared couldn’t help but notice. He set his guitar down next to him and went to pick her up. He could tell she was resisting a bit. When he sat her on his lap he planted a kiss on the top of her head.
“You saying you’re not happy?” he whispered in her ear, nervous about her response.
“I’d be happier with a christmas tree” she said swinging her feet over her dad’s legs.
Jared felt his chest tighten up and he breathed heavily to gt rid of the feeling. Suddenly everything seemed really small in comparison to his daughters words.
“I’ll make you happy then” he whispered to her and set her feet on the ground before standing up. “Go get dressed, put on warm clothes and come back down okay?”
Gregans face lit up just as Jared was hoping and she ran off to go do as he said. She was filled with excitement, finally to get a day away from the music and everything putting stress on the family and have a normal day, and get a tree.
When she was ready she headed back down stairs, Emma was waiting by the front door for her with a winter coat.
“All right sweetie put out your arms” she said spreading the coat to put on you. “I have to personally thank you myself hun. Getting your dad out for this is exactly what he needs” Emma said as she pulled your hair out over the collar. At least Emma was always on the same page as you. She brought that woman’s touch you could count on.
It was almost comical seeing all the crew load their stuff into the car to go get the tree. Jared himself was starting to warm up to the idea, a little bit of comic or familial relief could be good for the documentary. The drive there Gregan sat on Shannon’s lap in the back seat while her father was in front on the phone. She got slightly discouraged seeing him take the time to work when it was supposed to be all about christmas. But even she couldn’t expect him to put off work completely. She knew her dad better than that.
When you pulled up to the tree farm you beat everyone by being the first one out of the car. You ran around the front to grab your dad’s hand and lead him into the trees. Jared lifted her up in his arms and kissed her cheek.
“See one you like baby?” he asked and she just pointed in the directions she wanted him to go.
Gregan started smiling and chanting “look look!” pointing in the direction of a tree. Jared carried her over to what he thought she was looking at. It was what he expected. A tall and full tree, vibrant green, the kind of tree he didn’t even knew existed when he was a kid at christmas. Jared extended his hand to touch it.
“Wow well would ya look at that” he said sarcastically turning to share a laugh with his brother. Emma stood off to the side with a smirk.
“This the one you want?” Shannon said searching for a price tag.
“No no no!” Gregan protested
Jared and Shannon both looked at her confused, “No?” they said simultaneously while Emma began to giggle.
“I was pointing to that one!” she said moving her arm to the side around the huge tree in front of them.
Jared and Shannon leaned to their right to peak at the tree. It was the complete opposite of what they thought. Gregan struggled in her dad’s arms and he got the hint to put her down. She skipped over to the tree that was no bigger than her.
“I want this one!” she said with a huge smile spreading across her face.
It was small, frail, and barely had any green on it.
“It’s a Charlie Brown tree” Shannon said joining her next to it and laughing.
“Is that good?” she said confused looking up at him.
Jared walked over and pulled the price tag out the middle.
“It says 99 bucks, I ain’t paying 20 bucks for that. 20 bucks” Jared said in denial picking a stick off the ground and poking it.
“Daddy stop!” Gregan grabbed his arm laughing.
“He’s got a little arthritis on the knuckle right there”.
“His hair’s falling out” Shannon teased with him.
“You really want this one baby? I mean...” Jared asked in disbelief.
“Yes! Please daddy!” she hugged his leg knowing he couldn’t resist her when she did that.
“How much are you going to pay us to drag this out of here?” Jared continued
“I mean look at this thing” Shannon couldn’t believe her choice either.
“I mean, this is the ugliest tree I’ve ever seen in my entire life.... but if you want it” he placed his hand on top of his daughters head and stroked her hair. “19.99? All right we’ll take it”.
Gregan started jumping up and down in excitement and tried to pick the tree up herself. Shannon laughed and threw it over his shoulder nonchalantly as Jared took her hand and they headed to the car, tree in tow.
Back at the house Gregan carried the christmas ornaments a few at a time into the living room and started to decorate the tree right after Shannon put it up in the corner.
“It was a bargain” Jared said looking on and sighing in relief at his little girl.
............
Jared woke up from another night where he barely got a few hours. Only this time it wasn’t because his mind was lost on the lawsuit, it was because he was so worried about his daughter. He could admit to himself that his attention was off of her more than usual. But this thing with the record label was consuming him and the band, plus the new album took up any creative freedom room he had left.
He knew something wasn’t right with her, he had seen her upset before but not like this. A little girl shouldn’t be this distant from him. Even over the holidays, there was something in her eyes that said she wasn’t completely there. He got out of bed, the sun barely over the horizon, and headed to her room. When he opened the door he was surprised to see that she was already awake. Tucked in under the covers and clinging her stuffed animal to her.
“Baby?” Jared began walking in and shutting the door behind him. “Why are you up so early”.
“Couldn’t sleep” she whispered up to him. He sat beside her and leaned down to give her a kiss. He could feel her pulling away from him.
“What’s wrong?” he questioned, not wanting to dance around the subject. Jared always wanted her to be honest.
Gregan didn’t answer and just hugged her toy closer. She buried her head in the fur of it to avoid him.
“Oh no no no.....” he snuck his hand under her chin to pull her up so he could look at her. “Don’t do that now, you and I don’t keep stuff from each other” he gave her another kiss on her cheek to make her more comfortable.
“I don’t want to make things worse” she finally blurted out.
Jared stared at her for a moment stunned, “worse?” he said edging her to continue.
“You’re already so mad because of what’s happening” Gregan voice cracked a bit, now Jared knew it was serious seeing tears beginning to form.
“Nothing is important enough that you can’t tell me something, okay? What is it baby?” he wiggled her chin back and forth in his hand.
Gregan thought for a moment, trying to figure out how to form her words. How to tell her father that she felt like she was coming second and she hated it, that she wanted this all to be over, for thing to go back to normal. Just thinking about all the stuff clouded her mind and there was nothing she could do besides just let the words out.
“You care about it more than me” she said and tears unleashed down the sides of her face.
Jared was so taken a back by what she said he didn’t wipe them away at first.
“Care about what?” he pressed her more.
“About the music about everything going on. You care about it all more than me”.
Jared felt that same tight feeling in his chest and it shot all throughout his body. His absolute worst fear was coming true. He thought he was doing so well at protecting her from this situation but in reality he was shutting her out. Keeping her young and careless was what he really wanted, now he was responsible for forcing her to grow up too soon and having her think that he wasn’t there.
“Oh baby baby baby...” he said shaking his head. He took his hands and put them on both of her cheeks and wiped her tears away with his thumbs.
Gregan tried to push away from him but he kept a steady grip on her.
“shhhh baby... listen to daddy” he said softly placing a quick kiss on her nose. “It’s hard to understand right now I know. But all I care about it you.” he said feeling tears start to build up inside of him as well. He blinked vigorously to keep them at bay.
“No you don’t!” she raised her voice “all you do and talk about is all that music stuff”.
Jared realized this was deeper than he originally thought. The months that this lawsuit was dragging on were hard on him, he was coming to terms this moment that the people who really suffered were his family. The words he said to Shannon a while ago were ringing in his head “it wasn’t just us”.
Jared adjusted himself on the bed and pulled his daughter into a hug. When he was at a loss for words he defaulted to this. He held her and let her cry in his arms, as much as it hurt to hear her, he knew he needed to let her do it. Gregan wanted to break away from him and just hide under the covers. She had been holding in these thoughts for so long and now it was all coming out. But what she wanted more than anything in the world was her daddy. He was the only one who could really understand her at the end of the day, even if he was the source of her pain.
Jared pulled her away after a few minutes and patted her pillow before he laid her head down on it. He took her blankets and put them over her, tucking her in again. He grabbed her stuffed animal and tucked it in next to her. The sun was now fully exposed over the hollywood hills and peaking through her window. Jared took a moment to admire his baby in the sun light. When he saw her eyes look up at him, everything became clear for the first time in a while. Gregan had more she wanted to say, but she was stopped by her tears continuing to fall.
“Honey this whole thing took us all by surprise. I never meant to hurt you. You have to understand that first things first. I know I haven’t been paying attention to you like I should be. And I haven’t been there emotionally. But baby listen...” Jared knew he had to be frank in order for her to understand. There was no way to sugar coat this. Just like he had said to Shannon that he just wanted to feel good and Shannon gave it to him straight. It felt much better than any beautiful lie that he could have heard. “Everything I do I do for you. Understand? This whole situation, there are people that want to hurt me and take things away from me. Which means that you get hurt. And I would never ever let that happen baby”.
Gregan laid down quietly, the tears slowing down, trying to comprehend her fathers words.
“You know daddy didn’t have a lot growing up, so all I wanted when I had you was to give you the world and make you happy. Someone is trying to take that away. I just have to stop that from happening. I know it’s a lot baby I know. But wherever I am and whatever I’m doing, it’s all for you, you hear what I’m saying?”
Gregan felt the goosebumps on her skin begin to fade as she shook her head yes. It was simple but it was the solution. She just needed to be sure and hear it from him.
“If daddy doesn’t work hard to fix this then.... it’s risking...” Jared had to be careful about his next word choice. He decided to go with something he knew she’d definitely understand. “It’s risking you not be happy, baby”.
Gregan saw her father, the man who was always in control and always had a plan but who also hadn’t been himself in so long open up to her. Her tears weren’t coming from a sad or angry place anymore, but relief and happiness that she was really connecting with him again. Like that morning she woke up and saw him on the phone, she couldn’t resist the urge to hug him. She jumped up and wrapped her arms around his neck and squeezed. Jared was in complete bliss with his baby in his arms. When everything else seemed to be falling down around him, he could still hold things together with her.
A huge weight was lifted off both of them and it really hit Jared, who had gone without much sleep since this nightmare began. He tucked his daughter back in bed only this time he laid down next to her. She turned to face him and snuggle up in his chest. He held her firmly in his arms and rested his chin on top of her head. He felt as protected by her as he intended to make her feel with him.
“You understand what I said baby? I mean every word”.
“Yeah, I do daddy” she replied in a tired voice.
“No more secrets okay? We always talk to each other when something is wrong, promise?” He said closing his eyes.
“Promise” she reassured him before they were both asleep.
..........
The next day Jared sat down stairs with his brother over coffee. Shannon could sense the change in his little brother, he was both stressed and relaxed all at once.
“I’ve been thinking” Jared started the conversation.
“About?” Shannon twirled his drum stick between his fingers.
“About adding something else to the documentary”.
“That’s your department brother, you’re the filmmaker” Shannon chuckled out.
“Well it would call for some private stuff. I want to have mom come in, when we do the interviews for the doc I was thinking we add some stuff about when we were kids” Jared said without hesitation. He was nervous as hell but didn’t want to show it and discourage Shannon.
Shannon sighed deeply looking out the window, “What about when we were kids?”
“Where we came from, how we discovered music, our struggles before this one”.
Shannon stayed silent unsure of what to say. The past wasn’t the happiest place to revisit for either of them, Shannon in particular thought liked to avoid it.
“I want to do this for Gregan. Take a break from this shit for a moment. Show her that we were kids once too. We know it fucking sucks when your parents don’t make the world.... feel all that safe” Jared said earnestly touching on something he tried to put behind him.
Shannon understood now and he felt like he had the wind knocked out of him.
“All right, I trust you. But you gotta fucking remember something” he looked Jared dead in the eye. “You’re not our dad. You’re a fucking good father”.
Jared shook his head and cracked a small smile that Shannon gave in return.
“I’ll call mom”.
...........
“I was... breaking the law...” Shannon said looking down at the floor, before smirking at the camera. Jared sat behind it with Gregan in his lap and gave him a smile back, tickling her side.
“He’d disappear for days at a time... I never knew where he was” Constance shrugged in front of the camera. The pain was there but it was so long ago she had learned how to heal from it. Constance was the strongest person in every room to her sons, and Jared wanted to make sure his daughter knew that.
Gregan watched and listened in fascination as her grandmother talked about her dad and uncle. It was hard to remember that her daddy was once a kid too. Seeing the pictures of him so young and hearing the stories made her feel more connected to him than ever.
There were certain things Jared didn’t want Gregan to know yet. Some stuff had to wait until she was older, some he never wanted her to hear. For now, Jared just wanted to reassure her that she wasn’t alone. That he knew what she was going through. Most importantly he wanted her to know that tough times happen to everyone. But it’s not the end.
“I think that’s enough for today huh everyone?” Jared called out and Shannon and Constance both shook their head in agreement.
Jared swung Gregan up in his arms. She rested her head on his pink shirt and played with the scarf around his neck. He was dressing like his normal self again.
“I was thinking we’d go talk a walk up the hill a bit. Would you like that baby?” he whispered and she shook her head yes.
The now three generations of the Leto family made their way outside and felt the cool LA air hit them. When they reached their spot on the top of the hill they all took a seat under the tree. Something they all had in common was needing the calm of the skyline in times like this.
“So how is this really going honey?” Constance said brushing the loose strands of her sons hair that he missed tying back, behind his ear.
Jared sighed and held Gregan close to him.
“Don’t you wanna make something that lives forever? Something that’s phenomenal, something that’s great, something that’s undeniable? That touches the core of every person that hears it. You wanna make something beautiful, something moving, something provocative, something that’s pure and true” Jared said. Unleashing everything he hoped to come out of this lawsuit and album and life in one instant.
“I do. I did” Constance said without skipping a beat. “I created you. I have you”.
Jared turned his head and looked at his mom, instantly he was reverted back to being a little boy again and smiled at her, eyes glazed over. But he just held his daughter closer to him and again, felt like a grown man. He saw her staring out at the LA lights and she reminded him so much of himself and his brother and his mother all in one. He whispered back to his mother,
“And I have her. We’ll be just fine”.

Chapter 59: Friends Reunited
"Close your eyes! We've got a surprise for you!"
The noise in the studio had died away to a whisper and Catherine screwed her eyes shut wondering what the hell her students were up to. She heard a door open and close and a little murmur pass through the class before someone counted: one, two, three ... and she opened her eyes.
A chorus of happy birthdays rang out around the room and Champagne corks popped. Catherine smiled and acknowledged her class with a grin and an outstretched hand.
"This is so sweet. Thank you," she said accepting a glass and toasting the students who were gathering round her and talking over each other as they competed for her attention.

The Call of the North
! ! A. N.: I was suppised to post this last year... I didn't I am posting it now, you can see it's old info. Was about the meeting between Nightwish and Mars, that I hoped for, but didn't happen... Since the MAESTRO is having a birthday today... I am sharing my little baby ! !
******
- Hey... Babs!
- Yes... Yes... Summer? - ypu yelled.
- Yes summer!
- No you are summer!
- You have my last name, you are Summer too.
- Ugh... I am Summer's... You are the... Nevermind. I would like to make a call.
- ...
- J! - you childishly tapped with yoir food on the floor.
- What? How am I stopping you?
- You have his number.
- Oh... You wanna call the Maestro!
- It's his birthday! - you smiled. - That's the law.
He gigled and gave you his phone.
*
Beginning of October
- Hey... Hey... This place is huge, I I'll loose you all! - you slowly walked your 1'55m existance in the big reception hall of the hotel.
- Hope so! - Kyle said, crossing his fingers.
- The only thing saving you is your hair!
- Hahaha imagine if he cuts it off! - Kennon laughed.
- No, my girl's gonna kill me! Get lost, both of you! - Kyle laughed. - Samuel, come here, OK may need photo proof of what may follow. Nice shirt too.
- Thanks! - ypu waved a hand, looking away.
- Where is this? - Kennon turned me around to see.
- The birth places of 2 gods.
- We kinda got that from the front. - Matty pointed smirking.
- Photos only after you pay me.
- We? To pay you... - Matty and Samuel both said.
- Yes... As I recall pretty misses are paid.
- Hell of a woman dude! - Kyle said looking somewhere behind you.
- Why? - I leaned closer.
- She is tall.
- Aha...
You all proceed talking, got ourselves drinks and headed to the garden. You heard men laughing and someone spoke in broken English.
- Nice shirt - a man's soft voice said.
- How can you tell it's nice since you have no idea what's on it. - you drank of your juice, not bothering to look back, sassing, since Kyle, Matty and Samuel got on your nerves.
- I know my Birthplace, it's not that's uncommon knowledge where I come from.
You felt your heart stopped and you chocked on your drink. He and his company laughed.
- Hey, don't be rude! - a familiar voice said walking towards you.
You fast turn around and saw your brother. He had lightly hugged you, still half asleep from the jet lag.
- Shush! - you quietly hissed. - Do you know who this is?
- I don't care who he is, he can't talk to you like this.
- He didn't say anything... Bad.
- Hello. - Summer appeard out of nowhere.
- Wow, two genius people togwther. - a woman's voice announced.
The others looks at the corner, noticing a long haired man and the big woman Kyle admired.
- Fucking shit... That's Nightwish! - your dorky fangirled and the rest went to say "hi".
Eventually all moved to the couchesnearby. You slowlu walked there, Shannon was right behind you. Kyle was taking wild selfies with Floor Marco was explaining Jared how to grow a beard like his... Tuomas... He was just sitting there, alone... You tried not to stare, at least not to obvious.
- I really like your shirt. - he suddenly spoke. He wasn't a man of many words, but every one was perfectly picked for the needed occusation.
- Thanks... - you mumbled. Shannon pinched you.
- What inspired you to make this.
You laughed a little bit uncomfortable, and accidentally got all the people's attention.
- Am... - you looked at the shirt, it said 'Gods are born on 25th & 26th of December'. - Well since... - you were already freaking out, how were you supposed to explain this. You looked at J, he nod his head and you felt Shannon's hand massaging your back. - Since my husband is a god, or at least that's what his fans say...
- Thank you! - Jared got up and did a bow, and everyone clapped. People think he is being attention whore, but he know you and Shannon were uncomfortable with a lot of attention on yourself, so he was there for you.
- ... Well, since also you are born on that kind of date as well, and Nightwish were one of the 1st bands I listened and I like you like super much and I admire you and... On and on... I decided to make it look this, and quite a lot of people miss... The obvious info.
- What's the obvious info? - Floor asked.
Shannon spoon you around and pointed at the back of your shirt where the cordinates were.
- So why is he a god? - Emppu asked.
- Have you listens to their songs? - Johanna appeared from the nothing.
You muffed a scream and jumped, turning to J.
- I stalked them to see when they will get married so they can adopt me! - she laughed and then you realized you said this out loud. Jared shrugged, Shannon tapped your shoulder and when you looked at Tuomas he was holding his face in his hands laughing. - Ops... I didn't meet to say this out loud. - Mind the fact non of the band members, especially Tuomas liked the fans looking them like objects and that's exactly what you did.
- Lovely! - Johanna looked the shirt closelt, theb turned to Jared. - You look like Him anyway, I can work with this. - she laughed and said something in their language, then they all laughed.
- So I miss what your shirt said. - Floor asked.
- These are the coordinates of their birth places. - Shannon turned you back around. - The 1st - he showed - is the birth place of the Maestro. - Shannon pointed at Tuomas and Marco cheered. - Kitee. The 2nd one, is Bossier, Louisiana. The birthplace of her husband... - Shannon pointed at his brother. - Also to my brother and me! - then Shannon pointed at himself. - All laughed. - Turned out geographical coordinates of birth cities are not that uncommon info. - he looed at you and frowned.
- Well where I come from they are... - you were about to rang, then you alk heared a loud voice coming towards you.
- Oh... Shannon! - someone yelled.
- Jukka! - you squeezed his arm.
- Leto, I can't believe I see you! - Jukka offered a hand to shake and Shannon accepted. They brwafly hugged - Will you come to our show tomorrow?
- I am flattered, but we will be performing tomorrow night as well.
- One boulevard away and like 30min earlier - you shoot the words and made an innocent grimace when the two men looked at you.
- I am a... Fan of yours, Leto.
- Oh my God... - you sat on the arm of the couch where J was sitting - Jukka is a fan if my brother... Summer, pinch me, I must be dead. - you breathed out and almost fell of.
Everyone suddenly was in a heated conversation with everyone
- Fire, isn't she. - Johanna whispered to Jared.
- You have no ides! - J pretened whined. Tuomas tapped his shoulder and laugher.
*
End of December!
- Yes?
- Hello birthday boy.
- Oh, the Autumn lady! - Thomas laughed in the other side of the phone line.
- Hyvää Syntymäpäivää! /happy birthday/ - you made a clumsy attempt to say it in Finnish, but failed. He corrected you and you had a small talk, he spoke to Jared too.
- I am flattered, you called.
- Always! You are my eidos love
He laughed.
- OK, I wasn't supposed to say this either... I am sorry, it's disrespectful.
- No, I am honored I am one of the people you look up to. - someone spoke to him - I will send your love to your eidos mom, I have to go.
He hang up.
- So Mrs. Leto, are you happy now.
- Yes! - you hugged J and kissed his nose - The potatoes are almost ready!
- Oh... Potatoes again... - J sighed.
- Joseph! They are Finnish recepie.

Bedtime Pleasures - A Shannon Leto/”You” one shot story.
Just a quick little Shan fix for my lovely fellow Shan girls to enjoy here! Usual disclaimer applies :)
Your back hits the bedroom wall with a thud much louder than you expected, your shoulders sore from the force of the push that moved you there in the first place. You don’t care though, the hazel eyes you’re staring into are worth it, as are the kisses the man they belong to begins to give you once more. You love it when he’s a little rough with you, after all.
His strong hands knead the backs of your thighs before travelling up to give your ass the same attention, his tongue swirling with yours, stubbly beard scratching your lips as your hungry kisses deepen. This man, he’s all you’ve ever desired, all you’ve ever wanted or needed. The satisfaction you feel at him being yours is beyond sheer delight.
Those big hands tug at your underwear, pulling the silky shorts you’re wearing down your legs and letting them drop to the floor before using his knee to part your thighs wider, nibbling your bottom lip and then groaning against your neck when his fingers meet the soft skin of your slit.
Delving within to stroke at you, his groan only becomes deeper and more aroused, feeling you’re already wet for him. The warmth bathes his fingers, so silky and sumptuous to him, while you grip his arms and sigh at the feeling of being stroked, his lips kissing at your neck in the exact spot he knows always turns you on.
A soft exclamation of ‘ahhhh!’ leaves your mouth as his thick fingers press your clit, moving in circles first before his index and middle finger slide up and down over it, working in a scissoring motion that gently squeezes it as they rub.
Your legs tremble, gasping before his mouth is on yours once more, kissing you fiercely, leaving you breathless and giddy already. Moving you over to the bed he then pushes you down, his hands sliding up your body and taking the simple cotton dress you’re wearing with them, the fabric bunched at your waist.
His hands glide back down again as he kneels at the foot of the bed, parting your legs and holding them wide as his head dips down and his lips part, ready for the introduction of his tongue where his fingers previously worked their magic.
Your head tilts back as you moan softly, his tongue licking at you gently while his hands stroke your stomach. He circles your clit with the very tip, alternating between that and soft, fast flickers, the light touch making your head spin as your body yearns for firmer contact.
He stops momentarily, laughing softly when you make a noise of displeasure, getting up to turn on the lamp. He always loves to see you, sex with the light off is never an option for him. It’s as he’s walking back to the bed that you see his erection tenting his jeans, a sight that makes a delicious tingle run through you.
“Ahhhh, ohhhh.” You exclaim, your fingers stroking his hair as his lips suck at your clit, making it harder, his tongue then beating back and forth over it. His fingertips stroke your thighs, evoking a lustful quake across your body, mouth making you so wet and ready for him that you can barely wait until that bulge you saw a moment ago is released and sliding within you.
Your need to be fulfilled in such a manner is gratified when he begins to explore you with his fingers, the tips playing with your opening firstly, teasing the soft flesh before pushing within. He circles them around, giving you a thorough stroking on the inside before he begins rubbing your g spot, his tongue beginning to move in a faster beat over your clit.
You start to pant, those pleasant shudders becoming more violent as your body hums with erotic energy, your legs clenching as your fingers tug at his short hair. He knows how to build you up quickly, speeding up using a lighter touch and then slowing down and administering a firmer one, moaning deeply.
“You’re getting so fucking wet for me, beautiful. Damn, this pussy tastes so sweet.” He murmurs, sucking on your clit again and making you holler in appreciation. That sudden suction on an area so sensitive literally takes your breath away, forgetting to breathe until you moan again at the feel of his tongue pressing hard against your clit and starting to wiggle from side to side.
You look down at him, watching him devouring you as he stares back, beautiful hazel eyes glowing almost gold in the soft light, winking at you before his long eyelashes shutter his irises, eyes closing as he begins to suck at you again.
The spiralling, tingly heat of your imminent release builds ever stronger, his tongue and fingers working faster and faster, your chest heaving with every laboured breath as sweat beads your trembling body, until…
“Oh god, ahhhhhh!” There it is, the moment your body is alight with utter rapturous pleasure, lingering as he continues to lick at you before it slowly ebbs away once more. He kisses your inner thigh while you catch your breath, sitting up to take your dress and bra off as he stands up again.
Gesturing that he should pull his t shirt off you play with your tits as he strips for you, watching you intently as you pinch your nipples and kiss his taut abdomen.
By the time your hands reach to unfasten his jeans, he’s hard again, his dick bulging out as you pull them off. It springs free when you remove his boxers, thick, rock hard and pleasantly musky in scent, waiting for your mouth to encase it.
“Mmmmm, fuck, baby.” He groans when your begin licking the head of his cock, flickering your tongue back and forth over the very tip before circling all around it, your hand squeezing his shaft before your mouth slides down slowly.
You keep repeating this slowly to begin with, cupping his balls and rolling them in your palm while your other hand strokes his back, speeding your mouth up eventually, but not too much. You know slow and deliberate gets him excited.
Making a point of tightening your lips around his shaft, you feel him harden even more once the pressure is released, continuing to do this as you feel his hips begin to slowly move back and forth, fucking your mouth in a non-obnoxious way.
Keeping your head still and gripping his hips, you let him continue doing this, your tongue flickering against the underside of his shaft as it slides in and out of your mouth, Shannon looking down at you intently. “I’m going to fuck your pussy so damn hard.” He tells you, stroking your cheek with his thumb before closing his eyes and groaning again.
His fingers run through your hair as he continues to watch, you taking control again to pump his shaft with your hand quickly, your tongue licking the tip of his cock. He hisses a sharp breath, groaning deeply thereafter at the sudden change of pace, smiling down at you. He knows full well what you want.
“You want me balls deep in your beautiful little pussy, huh honey?” he asks, watching you nodding in reply. “Come here then, climb on.” Sitting down next to you on the bed he chuckles at the speed you move astride him at, both of you moaning contently when after guiding him to your opening, you sink down on his thick erection.
He fills you to capacity, stretching you deliciously as your bodies begin to rock together, his hands stroking your back as you kiss each other hungrily. His body is utter fit perfection, carved arms from drumming, strong and powerful as they wrap around you a little tighter.
The smattering of dark hair on his chest brush your nipples as they skim against it, Shannon sucking on your tongue before pushing you back to lay a line of kisses from your throat down to your tits. The feeling of his tongue paying attention to your nipples in turn as your pussy flexes around his slippery dick has you alight with euphoria, crying out as you grasp his thick shoulders.
His thick, dark pubes tickle against your clit as you slide up and down on him, holding his face in your hands and kissing him again, passion washing over you both as you relish in this moment, in each other, surrendering yourselves to it totally.
Moving underneath you he places you on the bed so he’s behind you, sinking back into your heat while you arrange yourself comfortably, enjoying the slow, sensuous thrusting of his hot, steely erection. His hands stroke your ass cheeks, fingers flexing against them in squeeze and palms coming down to spank them sporadically, those big hands eventually settling at your waist.
Increasing the pace he holds you still, forcing you to take the brunt of each deep, keenly delivered thrust, his groans deep and saturated in lust. Every last inch of his manhood has your body alight with utter heavenly bliss, your soft cries and mewls beautiful to his ears. He loves hearing how much he arouses you and this only propels him on faster.
“Fuck, you’re so tight. Damn, you feel good, ahhhh!” he grunts, his tongue then running up your spine slowly and fluidly, kissing the back of your neck before suddenly withdrawing from you, flipping your hot, overly aroused body over and sinking back into you again.
He pushes your legs up until your knees touch your chest, smiling down at you as you cry out with every breath as how utterly amazing he feels inside you, whispering to you how pretty you are as he reaches between you and begins to rub your clit with his thumb.
Pre-orgasmic judders spark within you at that, the feeling of flush, light headed bliss beginning to sweep through you as you feel your pussy throb around his cock, knowing it won’t take long. The pace becomes voracious, Shannon moving within you like a jackhammer as all control is lost and both of you are speeding towards your ultimate undoing.
He comes before you, his eyes closed tightly and mouth agape as his cock twitches and shoots its hot load deep within your quivering walls, your orgasm only delayed by as few moments and then spurred on amazingly when he bends to suck one of your nipples at the precise moment you cum.
It feels like someone plugged you into the mains, like a bolt of electricity just shot through you, the pleasure of your orgasm so intense it takes you a while to open your eyes as you gasp for breath. When you do, there are those familiar, golden hazel orbs staring down at you, his hands stroking your face.
He kisses you a few times before withdrawing from you, bundling you up in warm cocoon of strong arms and soft blankets, your hazy, post-orgasmic glow sending you to sleep as he kisses your head and eyelids. Bedtime pleasures never felt as good as they do with him.

Phoenix -- Chapter 19
Annoying Friend (who I found out was actually named Angela) kept her word and returned for the show that evening. With her help, I was able to make plans to meet up with Viola again the next week when we played in Milan. It turned out I really liked this girl. We had been able to chat more with Angela around, and as I suspected, she was cool and funny, a little sarcastic but mostly fairly chill and upbeat. But every time I started to relax and just go with it, I would catch a glimpse of Jane and a wave of guilt I couldn't quite sort out washed over me. I shouldn't have felt guilty, it wasn't as if Jane and I were in any way together now, and she had all but outright given me her blessing with Viola. So why did I feel like shit when I thought of her seeing us together?
Viola spent the night again, without Angela, and she stuck around until it was time to leave. I kissed her a long goodbye as we stood in front of the idling tour bus, my emotions a confused muck. More than anything I wanted to ask Jane about what she had said yesterday over lunch, it played over and over in my head, except for the moments where Viola was looking at me with those big brown eyes of hers. She hadn't asked any more questions about Jane, it didn't take a genius to work out that there was a bad breakup there. All in all, it was shaping up to be an awkward mess. Jared kept Jane on a tight leash the next few days, never letting her out of his sight for more than a few minutes, and never without someone else there to keep an eye on her. I began to suspect he realized I would want to talk to her and was doing his best to keep us apart. I was a little irritated, but I probably would have done the same thing in his place. Jane mostly avoided speaking directly to me. We all shared a few meals together but other than that she hide out in Jared's bunk or Jared's room. I had woken from my own bunk several times on the road to catch her playing video games with Tomo, only to have her immediately excuse herself and retreat to the other end of the bus. It wasn't until four days later, when we were backstage for the Zurich show and Jared was off putting out some fire that could have easily been dealt with by someone else, that Jane and I found ourselves alone. She was perched on top of a giant black equipment case, swinging her feet in time with the music being piped out into the venue. It was bleeding in so softly back there I hadn't even noticed it until I saw the rhythm of her legs. She was dressed in ripped jeans and a Mars t-shirt, and even though her hair was blown out straight and once again looking like something out of a shampoo commercial, it floored me to see her looking like that. I had learned, in that time before, that with Jane, you could easily read her mood by how she was dressed. For her, the expensive clothes and ladles of makeup were a sort of battle armor, something she put on as protection while she ventured places further from her comfort zone. Jeans and t-shirt Jane was unguarded Jane, but also confident Jane. When she dressed like that she was comfortable in her element. Jared's conquests usually showed dressed to the nines, wielding their physical beauty like a bludgeon, ready to smash anyone that got between them and Jared. When they did dress casually it was usually a studied, trying-too-hard kind of casual, jeans and a 'messy' bun with an hours worth of contouring, a wrinkled t-shirt that they just happened to pick up off the floor, but it was Jared's t-shirt and Jared's floor. They were as pissy and territorial as cats. Jane was none of that. She was just back there, listening to music, texting someone on her phone, just being relaxed and confident in her position and 100% Jane. She had always dressed to the nines when she went to shows with me. “Hey, Janey,” I greeted her. Jane looked up from her phone and quickly scanned the room as if searching for a missing bodyguard. It hadn't been Jared that was keeping her so closely watched over and chaperoned. It had been Jane. I hated that she seemed to be afraid to be alone with me, but I really had no one but myself to blame. “Hi, Shannon,” she said hesitantly, placing her phone down beside her. “Chatting with Roger?” I asked, hoping a little chit chat might put her at ease. Jane smiled. “No. His girlfriend, actually.” “He has a girlfriend?” “Mm-hmm,” Jane nodded but didn't elaborate. She stared at her toes but didn't pick her phone back up. I tried again. “You look good. Happy. Jared says you've been teaching?” Jane nodded again. “Yeah, English to schoolchildren in Tanzania. It was a wonderful experience. I hope I'll get to do it again soon but I've been really busy.” “Wow, that's uhm...” I trailed off as I realized I didn't really know what to talk to her about. She'd always been just a little outside my reach, but a lot of things seemed to have changed with her. Jared had mentioned a thing or two but there were still so many gaps. “Shannon,” Jane began. Her tone was rife with exasperation and I feared she was going to cut the conversation off so I swallowed and went for broke. “Why did you say what you did to Viola?” Jane's feet finally stopped swinging and she looked at me. Her expression was flat and when she spoke her voice was too. “I said it because it was true. When you love someone you're wonderful.” “That's not what I meant. The part about wishing I could have loved you. I did, Janey. I loved you so much. I still...” “No, you didn't, Shannon. Maybe you like to tell yourself that you did, but it's not true.” “Don't say that. How could you even fucking think that? “ “You made a conscious decision over and over again that you had to know would break my heart. That's now how you treat someone you love.” I didn't want to hear that point so I just blundered on with a different one. “I didn't mean to hurt you. I never meant for any of it to go like that. I just...” Jane made a growling noise. “Do you really want to do this now, Shannon, before you go on stage?” “Well, I would do it another time but you've made damn sure not to be alone long enough to let me.” Jane hopped down off her perch and stood toe to toe in front of me, her green eyes peering up at mine. i dare you to kiss me i dare you to kiss me i dare you to kiss me i dare you to kiss me. I had to swallow hard to shut out the voice of Jane past that echoed in my head. This Jane wasn't smiling. “Fine," she spat, a little bit of her temper bleeding out and I braced myself. "Look me in the eyes and tell me why.” “What?" “Why, Shannon? If you loved me so much, then why did you do it?” It wasn't like I didn't have an answer for her, but the aggressive way she was asking threw me. “I... “ “Don't you fucking dare say you don't know. You've had four years to reflect. You know. By now, you know why you did what you did.” She was right of course. “I didn't know then. And I'm not trying to make an excuse now. I know this was all me, was all my fault.” “But?” “You loved someone else.” My voice was barely a squeak, mortification catching it in my throat. Jane rolled her eyes. “I told you, I wasn't in love with Angus. It was more convenience than anything.” I dropped my eyes because I knew how my next sentence was likely to be received, although I was curious if time had changed anything. “I didn't mean Angus.” “Oh.” Jane's voice was oddly dispassionate and looked back up to see her face had gone slack. “Yeah. Don't say you didn't, because I still can't even mention him without you looking like I was about to kick you.” “It's a complicated situation, Shannon, for a lot of reasons, all of which I told you. I don't see why that makes a difference though. It's not like he was around to compete with. I don't understand.” “I had girlfriends too after you left, you know." I knew this was going to be hard to make her understand, I was shit at explaining myself, but I had to try. "Some of them just overnight guests, some even less, some of them stuck around for a while. But I thought you were out there, just around the next corner. I thought you would pop back up any minute. I thought you were out there looking for me too. So I never took any of it seriously. I never thought it counted.” “Shannon...” Jane's voice was softer, the anger from a moment ago dissipated. “Everything counts. Every day. All of it.” “I know that now.” Jane wound a finger into her hair, twisting one strawberry curl while she seemed to manage her emotions. “So did you somehow think if you fucked around on me that wouldn't count either?” Dammit. “No.Of course not. Not that was doing a lot of thinking back then, but I was just mad, even if I couldn't figure out why. At first, I just something was off, something I could put my finger on. Then I told myself you didn't really love me like I loved you, not if you hadn't waited. I told myself a lot of stupid bullshit. But I was really just mad that I had thrown away years when I should have been living them like you did.” Jane nodded and fidgeted with her hair some more. The pauses between her responses were killing me. “So you did do it to get even with me?” “On some level, I guess. But like I said, I didn't even know I was angry until later. I tend to do that, in case you haven't noticed. React badly and do stupid shit and then figure out why down the road.” “Is that why you sent that letter to Jared?” “That one, I knew I was pissed. You got between me and him.” “Well fuck, Shannon, you broke my heart and got between me and Roger and I didn't run behind your back exacting petty revenge schemes.” Suddenly I realized I had no idea what had happened in Jane's life after that moment she left me standing in a hotel parking lot in Irvine. The mountain climbing and teaching were the least of it. “I got between you and Roger?”
“I blamed him a little too. He kind of figured out what was going on before I did but he didn't warn me, just left me there alone with you and flew home. You burned my life to the ground that summer, Shannon.” Jane turned to the side and lifted the edge of her t-shirt. There was a tattoo there, one she hadn't had when she was with me. It started just above her waist, a little pile of burnt ashes with sparks that floated upward, converging into a brilliant orange, gold, and red firebird. It was vibrant and brilliantly done, and probably hurt like hell, sitting on her rib cage like that. Mine had hurt and I wasn't half as thin as she was. Reflexively I reached forward to touch it but she quickly dropped her shirt again. “It's a Phoenix. I broke down and let myself lie in the ashes for far too long, but I eventually got back up, put everything back together and rose above it.” “I didn't mean to break you.” “Well, I sort of had a hand in it too.” Before I could ask her more about that she continued. “The party then?” “That one... I didn't even realize I was still pissed, to be honest. I thought I had kind of gotten over things. It wasn't until we were all in that room together, and Jared was trying to “handle” things the way he always does while you just stood there, frozen, waiting to see what was going to happen, that I just... something just snapped. I think it's Jared I was actually mad at but it all came out at you.” Jane considered that for a moment then took back her seat on top of the equipment case. “I was going to apologize. That night, when I saw you again, I followed you back to that room to apologize.” “Apologize for what?” I was damn sure it wasn't for sleeping with Jared. “I mean, I've been working a lot on owning my own bullshit," Jane explained. "To be honest, I was out of control long before I crashed back into you at the bookstore.” “Jane, you don't need to apologize for anything.” “I was an emotional train wreck back then. The partying, the bad decisions, running around with you while I was still technically engaged to someone else, dragging you into trouble...” “I can find trouble on my own just fine. I'm a professional at it.” “I bought you drugs!” she protested. I had to stifle a laugh at Jane's horror over tainting my last vestiges of non-existent virtue. “Also something I could easily accomplish myself. Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way...” “Very funny. It's no wonder you got mixed signals I guess.” “You were in pain.” Jane's eyes instantly dampened. “What? I mean, how could you have known that? I didn't' know that, not then...” “I of all people should have known better." I hopped up and took a seat next to her, carefully resting my palm on the black plastic behind her. "You were trying so hard, grabbing onto anything you could to steady yourself... I know what that kind of pain looks like, even if you didn't. I should have known better. I should have been there for you instead of being a self-indulgent dickhead.” “Shannon...” “No. It was me. You may not have been in a good place but I'm the one that destroyed everything. I wish I could take it back.” “For what it's worth, you taught me a lot. The way you treated me that first time, back in Los Angeles, made me realize that I didn't want some safe, lukewarm love. That being loved back passionately was important. That being wanted was important. Being alone was better than not truly being wanted. I also learned that you can love someone and it still might not be enough. We weren't at a place in our lives then to be with each other, not then. It didn't matter that we were in love.” “I don't know, Jane. Maybe we have that one wrong.” “No," she said firmly. "I got the lessons wrong the first time, or I forgot them. Because I had to learn them all over again. I mistook being wanted for being in love. I was looking for the wrong things. Angus wanted me, but I didn't love him. I loved you but you didn't want me.” Not that again. “Jane, that is so far from the fucking truth.” “Is it? You had a choice between me and having a good time playing the rock star, and you chose to play the rock star.” “No. that's not the choice I made.” “But it is. You can blame it on misplaced anger or emotional immaturity but it was a choice and you made yours.” I could feel my breath faltering as I began to realize how badly I miscalculated. “I'd have chosen differently if I'd understood.” “You can't undo it, Shannon. There are no take backs. This is life. Sometimes you get second chances but there are no real do-overs.” “And no second chances here, huh?” “No.” Jane turned away for a second and swiped at her cheek. “You can love someone, heart and soul, and it still might not be enough. Maybe I guess you get to learn that one now. Twice is enough for me.” I didn't say anything to that one. What could I say? I thought she had misunderstood but I was the one without a clue. Jane's phone chimed and she picked it up and read the screen. “You know, you really should give Viola a chance. She apparently has had a crush on you for years. Saw one of your music videos. I only know her so well, her sister Bernadette and I used to party together when that was my thing, but Viola wasn't really old enough to hang out with us most places. I've been talking to her a bunch the last few days though. She's got a good head on her shoulders, smart, and really kind. She has plans beyond modeling. She's actually kind of amazing. You should give her a chance and get to know her. I mean, yeah, she's a little young but if that doesn't bother either of you it's none of my damn business.” Too young to hang out with them? “Wait, how old is she?” Jane thought about it and then gave me a sad smile. “She's the same age I was when I met you. Just turned 21.” “Ouch.” “Don't let it put you off. I mean you should find someone that you have something in common with, someone on your level. Age is just...” “Someone on my level?" I bristled. "Are you trying to say that I'm immature?” “You're putting words in mouth," Jane huffed. I just meant she seems more likely to want the kind of relationship that you do, and...” “You do get that Jared is my little brother right? You're dating my baby brother?” “How is this about Jared?” Jane's voice started to rise and I should have backed off but my mouth had slipped over into sarcasm mode. “Well, you know, now that you're too mature to be giving me second chances and all.” “I didn't say that. That's not at all...” “Look, I get it, okay? Nothing says “I'm over you” quite like fixing your ex up with someone else.” “Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to dig the knife in deeper. I like Viola. I thought you did too. I was just trying to help.” The air was silent and thick, the faint murmur of music gone and a dull droning in its place. The opening act must have been getting ready to take the stage. “For what it's worth, I'm not angry anymore. I'm not even hurt, I don't think. Not anymore. I'm just done.” Well, I guess that settled that. “Did he even give you the birthday present I bought you?” “The bracelet? Yes. It was a very pretty bracelet, Shannon.” Jane said far too diplomatically. “Do you ever wear it?” “No.” Jared appeared in the doorway and looked ready to rush to Jane's aide but she hopped back onto the floor again and held up a finger for him to wait. “I don't ride Ferris wheels anymore either.” “Why not? Too mature now?” Jane gave me a withering look that told me all I needed to know about how over me she was. “Because they're haunted. All of them. I'm always yours on Ferris wheels. And I'll never be yours again.” She bounded off into Jared's arms without a glance back and I found that I was the one swiping at my eyes now. I had wanted a second chance, some glimpse of a way back into her heart. What I got was closure. Not what I had come for, but something that I needed all the same. Closure, wrapped up in a wakeup call. I took out my phone and texted Viola. @thepromiseofanend @msroxyblog @nikkitasevoli @llfd1977 @fyeahproudglambert @little-poptart @snewsome756 @guccilowell @monicasanoli @lady-grinning-soul-k @pandaliciouz @lostinletoland @moody-by-nature

A Portrait of a Tortured You and I - Chapter 5
His tongue was tangled with mine, dancing around my mouth. He tasted sweet and the way he smelled was utterly divine. I didn't want to break away for anything let alone air, but it had to happen. I was both exhilarated and drunk on his entire being. The dichotomy not lost on me. My head was spinning. In that moment I would have given anything to have him rip off my clothes and take me right there. I didn't realize how much I missed the touch of a man, but I was made fully aware by one kiss.
He completely pulled away from me and I felt a surge of panic moving it's way up through my chest. He regretted it. The kiss changed his mind. Fuck! This is what I knew would happen. He turned around and saw me.
"No, no, no kitty cat. It was perfect. I just needed some distance because I could have fucked you right on this rock in front of everyone." Jared squashed the doubt in my head running rampant.
"That would have been nice." I said coyly.
"You're gonna be trouble, aren't you? I'm an old man you know!" He joked. "Maybe you're not as shy as you seem, hmm?" He walked back over to me and ran his fingers through my hair. "I look forward to finding out your true self. But that will have to wait. For now, I'm going to walk you back to your cabin and make an appearance around the island."
He descended the rocks and helped me down the last section onto the beach. Taking my hand in his and lacing his fingers through mine, he said a simple thank you, then took my hand to his mouth for a chaste kiss.
We walked about a hundred feet and then he let go of my hand. I knew what this meant. We would be getting closer to the activity of the others, crew and Echelon. I understood. We were meant to be just fan and celebrity for the duration of camp. I had to from this minute going forward, slide right back into who I was three hours ago. It shouldn't be too hard, but I was a typical girl that wanted to immediately jump head first into all things Jared. I had to resist that urge regardless of where we were. It had been the demise of all my relationships, I'm sure. I got too needy, too quickly.
As we walked further and further towards the tents, cabins, and facilities, he started walking faster and faster to where I was lagging behind. By the time we saw the first few people meandering around I was at least ten yards from him. People immediately started bombarding him. I guess most of these people were either new to Mars or never had been to any camps/ vip's. You didn't see that happen much in Malibu. People would stop and wave, say a quick hello, maybe he'd talk to a few people here and there, but there wasn't any bombarding.
He didn't seem to mind and once it happened it alerted a few of the counselors. About five minutes later Kennon was by his side to escort him around unscathed. It was the first time I had seen her, surprisingly. I took the chance to explore this part of camp and took in all the sights, sounds, and smells.
Everyone and everything was so colorful and the atmosphere was light and cheery. I was now more than ever so overjoyed to be here. I finally spotted people I knew. Not only knew, but these were MY people. My friends. Dana, Jen, Trish, Joey, Rachel and Mike were all over by the pool. I waved at them and then made a mad dash to be by their sides.
I had met each of them through the years at various events, and together we had all become the most eclectic group. We mostly only had Mars in common, with the exception of Rachel also being a writer. She was more successful than I, as she just completed her first novel and had sent it out into the publishing world. I was only slightly envious of her tenacity, but she cheered me on and gave me words of encouragement to keep powering through my block. It was her I needed to see and thank the most.
"Oh. My. God. You guys." I drew out the z sound on guys... I grabbed Rachel and hugged her. "I'm writing. Well sort of. I wrote two chapters earlier. They're not any good, but I'm writing. Thanks for encouraging me!"
"Catherine, I knew you could do it! I'm sure they're really fantastic!" She exclaimed.
"Chatty catty, if you don't get over here and fondle me right now, I just know something isn't right." Joey said laughing. He was the funniest one of us all. I wrapped my arms around his waist and squeezed his butt as he did the same to me.
"Get a room!" Dana said.
The next few minutes we caught up. I told them about my upgrade and they all agreed that I deserved it. Not a one of them felt slighted or upset. These really were my friends and cheerleaders.
Everyone was in their swimsuits but me and as we were all talking, I walked dangerously close to the edge when Mike got close and pretended to push me. I almost fell in from trying to avoid him. Everyone laughed until Natalie actually walked by me and sent me flying in anyway. People were shocked and I heard a few muttering around saying that it was wrong of her. The next thing I knew there was a splash next to me. I didn't see who it was, but I wasn't in the dark long. People were cheering and jumping in left and right. It was Jared, fully clothed. He came up for air, saying to me and only me: "You fall, I fall. Fuck her."
It was honestly the sweetest gesture and he had no idea how much it meant. He actually stayed in the pool and played with everyone. He periodically dunked and splashed people, even partaking in a game of water volleyball, if one could call it that. About thirty minutes later, he got out. Everyone was staring including me. His clothes were clinging to all the right parts of his body. He lifted his shirt up and over his head and the sounds of ovaries exploding left and right made him turn to us all and wag his finger at us.
"Ladies ladies... there's nothing to see here."
Joey chimed in and said, "That's right ladies, he's all mine." Jared busted a gut at that and went full on Rayon. "That's right, honey. I'm all yours." He slapped his butt.
The hilarity was too much. After the snickering died down, Jared told everyone how much fun he had, but that he needed his rest because he was of course an old man. Why he insisted on saying that all the time, I'll never know. He was younger at heart than any of us and God knows he looked it too.
I finally emerged from the pool and Trish, who had not gotten in brought me a towel. A few counselors were walking around telling us that there was a campfire with s'mores and a sing along in ten minutes. I wasn't too keen on either the s'mores or singing, but I wanted to warm up by the fire. I invited everyone to come check out my bungalow while I went back to change. Everyone was eager to see what they looked like.
"So this is how the rich live?" Mike said.
"Oooh does the mini fridge have alcohol?" Joey opened the door. "Whaa! It doesn't."
"Joey, you know camp is dry..." Dana added.
I went into the bathroom while they all looked around. When I emerged, they all hushed. "What?" I asked wanting to know what they were talking about. And in unison they asked, "who did this for you?"
"I can't say."
"But you know, don't you?" Said Rachel.
"Yes." That was all I could tell them. Shannon didn't want even me to know, let alone my quirky pals.
"Okay... it's just kind of crazy, if you ask me. When I asked how much the packages were, I was told 13,500 dollars. But keep the secret." Dana seemed annoyed.
"Maybe she isn't allowed to say? Maybe it was Jared and she had to sign an NDA." Joey joked. "Is that it, honey? Are you and Jared having a clandestine affair?" My cheeks became flushed. He was only half right. Geez, this was going to be hard to keep from them.
I shook my head, but was afraid my body would give me away. They left well enough alone and we left to go find the campfire. Upon arrival I noticed Natalie off to the side flagrantly gawking at me. It was unnerving.
"What's her deal, y'all? Like does anyone have any idea why she is acting this way? Last year, she was fine." I knew none of them knew because we had discussed this right after the Vyrt incident, but Jen who had been conspicuously quiet most of the evening shifted her feet. I was almost certain she knew something and I was positive this is why she was being so muted.
"Okay, Jen. Spill the beans. What's going on?" I was going to get her to talk if it killed me.
"Ugh, alright Catherine. But I'm warning you, you may not like what I say." I acquiesced and let her know to continue. "Remember the last night of camp?" I vaguely did... "you know, when we had church of mars? You went onstage during Rescue Me, along with Natalie and several other people." I did remember that, and I was fairly certain I was about to have a lightbulb moment. "Jared danced over to you and winked at you. It was subtle. No one from the crowd noticed, but Natalie did. Then he twirled you around. Not once did he really pay Nat any attention, but he was all over you." I let her words sink in. But I was obviously in denial about what happened that night because I don't remember him being paying particularly any more attention to me than anyone else.
"Oh Cat, come on! He was all about you. You have to remember that?" She added. "Okay, Jen, lets say that is how it happened. What difference does it make? I've seen him do the same with her before." I said.
"Yes, but she took it to mean that you were being flirty with him."
"Uhhh all women are flirty with him!"
"Yeah, but she actually think she has a shot with him. You can't be this naive. You've seen her Facebook posts where she says she's in love with him and she calls him her man. She's actually delusional. She thinks you're trying to steal her man." Jen looked over at Natalie and shook her head mouthing "nutjob."
"I suppose this makes sense. But to go the lengths she has seems too crazy, even for the most rabid of Echies."
"It doesn't stop there. At the last show of the tour, in Phoenix... you went with your sisters. You had VIP, your sisters decided last minute to come to the show and they didn't have it. So you were conflicted about it."
"Yeah, but I went in and left them behind at their behest."
“Yeah, well when you and Trish were talking about how you felt bad about them not being able to come inside and none of you had the extra money to pay for them to do it. Well, she overheard Jared... who must have heard you two talking, he... well he said to someone to make sure at the end during Closer to the Edge, that anyone that was with you, got up on stage. She saw him point directly at you. You and Trish were too busy talking to notice, but she saw it."
This was all so surreal. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I remembered them being pulled onto stage and how excited they were. We were all at the back of the pit because my sister was slightly claustrophobic. I was surprised that someone had come to us and told us to go up. The memory of how it happened was a blur now. But it was slowly coming back.
"So, I was online a few weeks after she attacked you on Vyrt and saw she had posted about this all, and how she was going to make sure you couldn't get close to Jared again. I'm pretty sure she's even more pissed off now, that you're doing the VIP. I'd really watch your back around her, Catherine. I don't think she's finished trying to ruin you."
I looked at Natalie and noticed the devilish grin on her face. I think Jen is right. Natalie had something up her sleeve and I was certain things were going to go south fast.

Reckless Ink was closed on Mondays. Exceptions were sometimes made for prescheduled appointments and special events, but it was generally the one day of the week you could be sure everyone had off. Of course it was the one that Nadia chose when concocting her brilliant plan.
Nine a.m. found the entire crew of us – Shannon, Jayce, and me, and Nadia, Curtis, Rick, and Thor... even Jen and Avery who only worked part-time, assembled at Mark's door with coffee, donuts and cleaning implements in hand. Mark answered our knock still in his pajamas, rubbing sleepily at his eyes, and I felt a strong tug of nostalgia-fueled affection at the sight of him. We had shared a lot together, and maybe this Stephanie episode wasn't his proudest moment, but I would always love Mark. He was, underneath everything, one of the most decent people I had ever known and it was his good example that was part of the reason Jayce was the wonderful kid he was. Mark had learned a hard lesson in an ugly way. I was glad to be part of helping him pick up the pieces.
“What is all this?” Mark asked he scratched his beard and looked at the group of us assembled on his porch.
“Your friends,” Nadia explained. “We're here to help you get back on your feet. That's what friends do.”
We pushed past him and started setting things up, and I got my first real look at the damage Stephanie had caused, well the physical damage anyway. I could see Mark had done some picking up but that did nothing to disguise the spray paint on the walls or the missing equipment or smashed cabinets. I wondered if she had trashed the backyard too. This beach house had been Mark's dream, he had talked about getting a place since Jayce was small, one with lots of wood and windows, a bedroom with a view of the ocean, and a big patio he could barbeque on while having some beers and listening to the surf. We had come to view the house together three years ago, and while I was standing in that bedroom, the one with the beautiful view of the ocean, the one that was Mark's dream, I had realized that I didn't share that dream with him anymore. We had filed for divorce a month later and the next day he went back and made an offer on this place. This was the house where I realized our marriage was over. It had always made me a little sad every time I stepped inside it. Now I just felt angry and cheated on Mark's behalf. This was his dream, and nothing about it seemed to go right. It didn't seem fair.
“You guys don't have to do this,” he protested as Nadia started directing people, pressing a cup of coffee into Mark's hand before fishing out the breakfast she had brought for him.
“Of course we don't boss,” Thor said. “And you didn't have to let me take those three weeks off with pay when my daughter was born and in the NICU with that infection.”
“And you didn't have to let me use your car to go take my finals after mine dropped its transmission,” Jen added.
“And you didn't have to bail my ass out of jail after that DUI and then sit me down and make me understand how much the drinking was fucking up my life,” Curtis pointed out. I gave him a hug. That was a particularly ugly point in Curtis's life that he had put well behind him and he didn't like to bring it up.
“And you didn't have to keep forgiving me every time I fucked up either, but somehow you always did. Still do. And I think you should know how grateful for that I am.” Nadia gave him a big hug and I think if Mark was the blushing type he would have. “You've done so much for everyone else. Let us do this thing for you now.”
Mark nodded and quickly excused himself, stepping out of the big French doors in his living room to go stand on his patio and presumably regain his composure. I gave him a minute before stepping out to join him.
“You okay there, Bossman?” I asked him, using a nickname I hadn't invoked since we had been married.
Mark nodded but I could see he was still choked up. “I don't deserve this. Not after the way I behaved. Not after the way I abandoned Jayce.”
“Hey....” I placed my palm against his back, rubbing in circles. “We all fuck up eventually. Yours was a long time coming so I guess it got to be super epic. Jayce may still be mad but he will forgive you eventually. It's going to be okay. We've got you.”
“Thanks. I don't deserve your forgiveness either but … “ he shook his head. “Thanks anyway.”
We spent the morning just sorting and cleaning out broken things, making a list of what was damaged or had just disappeared altogether. After stopping for sandwiches we got back to work, the gang dividing into teams to tackle different repainting projects. I watched Shannon setting up power tools in the backyard as he prepared to cut wood to repair the built-ins in the dining room that had been smashed to splinters by Stephanie's exit. Damn, that man could look hot doing anything. I watched him for a few minutes, a satisfied smile on my face. When I looked up I saw Mark, who had also paused from pulling some broken baseboards up to watch Nadia painting one dining room wall. She looked adorable in overalls, with a bandanna covering her braids and a smudge of paint on her cheek, and the sort of dazed look Mark was giving her was probably the same one I had just been wearing as I watched Shannon bending over that sawhorse. I couldn't help but chuckle. He was moving right along.
By the time we were ready for dinner, the bulk of the work had been done and I was pretty proud of our little crew. Nadia grabbed her phone to order something to eat.
“At least let me buy everyone dinner,” Mark told her, trying to reach for her phone.
“Nuh-uh,” Nadia said, quickly turning away from him. “This is part of the surprise.” She had an extra large grin on her face as she told whoever was on the other end of the call that it was dinner time. I wondered what that was about, she hadn't shared anything with me beyond our cleanup plans.
A few minutes later Jeff, the guy that lived next door to Nadia and usually babysat her dogs showed up, getting out of his work truck with a big box in his arms and Banjo and Buckley, Nadia's two beloved Keeshonds bounding after him. The giant dark nosed balls of fluff spotted their mama and came dashing across the yard, nearly knocking her over in their enthusiasm. She giggled as she sank down to pet them, and it was almost like seeing a completely different Nadia, an unguarded version of her that was simply in the moment rather than calculating how to survive the next blow that life was going to deal her. I had gotten to know her quite a bit better recently and I was realizing how desperately she needed just one person to stay in her life. It was no small wonder she had thrown herself into repairing these relationships after screwing up so badly, when a lot of people would have run away in shame. We were all she had.
Jeff sat the box down on the dining room table and the smell of grilled meat products immediately filled the space, overwhelming the odor of new paint and freshly cut wood. He exchanged a few words with Thor and then he and Curtis headed back out to the truck, unlocking the back and disappearing inside. A few moments later they reemerged from its interior, carrying a gigantic sofa between them. I recognized it at once. It was the one that had previously sat in my mother's living room.
“What is going on?” Mark asked.
Nadia beamed. “I've been calling around for the last few days, finding things to replace what got broken or stolen. We took up a collection and we didn't have much, but a lot of people gave us things they weren't using anymore either. We'll have you set up as good as new before you go to bed. On your new bed,” she finished with a giggle. I was really impressed. She had gone all out for Mark. Especially if she somehow talked Barbara out of that steamship of a sofa she had been so fond of.
Mark stood in stunned silence shaking his head and trying to look stoic as the guys filed past him with item after item, refilling his house and repairing what damage they could. I could tell he was deeply moved by all of this, no matter how neutral he tried to keep his expression. When Nadia started digging through the box to set out dinner his resolve broke and he threw his arms around her, hugging her tightly while she spluttered until she gave in and hugged him back too. The hopeful look on her face filled in any additional blanks. I had to get these two together somehow. They needed each other.

Jared Leto Daughter Imagine: Small Crimes
Request: (anon) Can you do an imagine where Jared is trying to help his daughter over come a drug addiction??
/////
You slammed an empty back pack down on your bed and began to throw clothes inside of it, not paying attention to what you grabbed just trying to move as quickly as possible. You heard your dad’s voice through the door as he pounded on it with his fist to let him inside. But you had enough, didn’t want to fight or go in circles anymore, just wanted to get out and away.
Jared ran his fingers through his hair keeping his eyes tightly shut trying to think of what to say to his daughter. When he realized it was no use he took the pin from the top of the door frame that he kept there for moments like this. He picked the lock and walked inside your room to see you packing.
“Oh no no no! baby we’re not doing this” he said in a state of panic and tried to take some of the clothes out of the bag.
You ripped them out of his hands and tossed them back in. Jared was stunned for a moment at the force you used and the anger on your face.
“Baby you’re not running away from from, not running away from me” he sighed trying to remain calm. It wasn’t the first time he had dealt with someone in this state.
“Yes. I. Am.” you said blatantly.
Jared took a deep breath and tried to resist the urge just to grab you and hold you close to him like when you were little and everything could be solved with a hug.
“Look I don’t care what’s happened or what you’ve done. I’m sorry I got angry and yelled earlier” he began referring to the fight that had erupted and began all this. “This isn’t your fault, I want to help you. There’s no shame in accepting help. But you do need it” his tone changed to worry but it only infuriated you more. “I know what you’re going through and..”
“That’s just it!” you interrupted him. “You don’t know!” Your screams echoed through the empty hollywood hills home. The two of you stared at each other not knowing who should make the next move.
After a few moments of stillness you heard the horn of the taxi you called outside. You picked the bad off your bed and rushed to the front door. Jared snapped out of his shock state and ran after you. He chased you down the driveway pulling at your arm and pleading with you to stay. You tried to tune out his voice and ripped away from him. When you went to open the cab door he slammed it shut.
“Where are you going to go?” he pleaded “You belong at home with your dad, I can fix this and help you get better. Things can be like they used to be with us sweetheart”.
You stared him deep in his eyes and said as sternly as possible holding back the tears beginning to swirl. “I don’t want this to be fixed, I don’t want to get better, and I don’t care where I’m going as long as you’re not there.” Your words were harsh and Jared felt them slice right through his chest to his heart.
You slapped his hand off the door and got in and before he could process everything you were driving off away from him. He stood there still, wondering how and what he did to make the little girl he promised to protect want to get away from him so badly. How he went from being her knight in shining armour to the enemy. More than anything he was thinking about how the past was repeating itself. But instead of Constance beginning her son to stay and not go off on his own, now he was beginning his daughter not to leave. Jared always promised he’d be better than his father, better than his step father, and now he felt like he was the same. His worst fear that his daughter would look at him like he looked at them was coming true.
But he was never going to give up, that wasn’t who he was especially when it came to his daughter. He ran back into the house and tried to find his cellphone. There was only one person he could trust to help him with this, the same person who helped him raise his daughter since day one. As he got his cell phone off the couch he threw it on he was stopped by the sight of the coffee table. The cocaine was spread all over, the bag he found on his daughter had ripped open and her small crime laid exposed. part of him wished he had never found it, so he could continue pretending in their little world today. The sensible part of him, the stronger part however knocked him back into reality. He wished he had figured it out sooner. But now it was done and he was going to help his baby. Like he had helped the man he as dialing all those years ago.
“Hello?” he hearad his big brothers voice on the other end of the line.
“Shannon, it’s (y/n) I need your help”.
Jared heard rustling on the other end, knew Shannon would immediately think of you and panic at the thought of his niece in trouble just like he did.
“Is she okay? What up?” he questioned with hunger in his voice.
“I found... “ Jared sighed deeply, it was the first time he was going to say it out loud. He almost didn’t want to, that would mean admitting that it was real. “I found... fuck man. I found fucking coke on her” Jared sat down on the couch and rested his elbows on his knees and head in hand.
Shannon on the other end was puzzled at what he was hearing, but Jared couldn’t help but notice his voice didn’t sound too surprised.
“I’ll be right over” Shannon said before hanging up.
Jared felt his heart pounding and his head began to ache. He laid back on the couch trying to ease the pain. All the possibilities were racing through his head about where you could be or who you were with or if you were safe. He wanted to chase after the taxi but if experience taught him anything, he would only make it worse. The bags under your eyes, the wide pupils, the shakes you had, Jared didn’t need all his past memories of taking and being around people who took drugs to know that you were gone in that moment. He had to stop thinking about it or he would burst into tears. He felt like he had been sitting there forever when the front door opened.
Jared shot up when Shannon stepped in the living room. He knew his little brother wasn’t one for hugs much but he immediately wrapped his arms around him and gave a bear hug. Jared clenched his fists in his brothers shirt and rested his head on his shoulder. He would never openly admit it but he was exhausted. It was nice to be the vulnerable one in his big brothers arms again.
Shannon didn’t waste any time after that, “Any idea where she could have gone?” He didn’t even bother to check if you were at the house. If he knew his niece she was stubborn just like her dad and was gone, or else Jared wouldn’t have called.
“I have ideas but..” Jared pulled out of the hug and started pacing back and forth. “She wouldn’t go to a friends house, I don’t think she’d want them to see her how she was. When we fight she likes to be alone”.
“She wouldn’t go far” Shannon interjected. “She never likes to be too far from you even when she hates you” he tried to cheer his brother up slightly with his words while helping. Jared cracked a half smile in the corner of his mouth to show his brother he heard and appreciated it.
“I was thinking the Chateau it’s a hotel she knows and we weren’t there too long ago”
“Well.. fuck it. It’s worth a try right?” Shannon gave his brother a pat on the back and Jared grabbed his car keys without hesitation and they headed out.
You laid back on the bed and felt the rush through your body. The drug, the antidote, the heroin was taking its affect and you finally relaxed and lost all the tension building up. You had only tried it a few times but today, today you needed to take a step up to drown out your thoughts. You felt so guilty about what you said to your father. You hated the moments in between binges when your head cleared and you had time to think about what you had done. You were ashamed that you let this happen, that you didn’t go to him when it got out of control, but each time you got nervous you’d say just one more... just one more... one more and soon it was too late. You felt tears welling up and sliding down your cheeks. No amount of heroin or cocaine could make you forget your fathers face after you spoke to him the way you did. You pulled the needle out of your arm and dropped it on the floor beside the bed and closed your eyes hoping you’d fall asleep.
Jared and Shannon rushed through the doors of the hotel and to the front desk. The woman behind the counter looked star struck recognizing who he was. Jared spat your name out the her and demanded to know the room number.
“I’m sorry ehr I can’t give out that infor-”
“She’s my daughter” he said and the woman saw the pain in his face and quickly flipped through the book before whispering the number to him.
When they reached the door where you’d be on the other side, they took a moment to feel the relief that they had guess right about where you’d be. Jared raised his hand to knock and Shannon put his hand on his shoulder to stop him. Hesitant to let him knock on the door afraid of the state you’d be in.
“You have to prepare yourself” he said.
Jared stood there really thinking about what would happen when he went in there. Was he no better than his own father? Could he make it better?
But Jared couldn’t wait. He had to see his daughter and make sure she was safe. he had to get to work and make things right. He knocked as loud as he could to make sure that you’d hear him.
“Baby it’s me, it’s dad. Open up.” he said with hope in his voice, for the first time in a while.
You shook awake from your drug induced sleep barely grasping the words that were being said to you. Your mind was in another place not controlling your body, your mind was floating away somewhere as your legs seemed to operate themselves and you went to the door. As soon as the slight wind from the door opening past you hit your face it felt like you had been punched. Your body decided to join your mind.
Jared saw his daughters eyes roll into the back of her head and she fell directly forward. He lunged over to grab her and swung her up in his arms. He rushed into the room to get her laying flat on the bed. Shannon went into the bathroom and got a wet towel to place on your head. Jared shook you gently trying to get you to wake up.
“Baby...can you hear me? wake up wake up please” the tears he had been holding back at the house stared to fall down his face.
When he saw the needle on the floor he crushed it under his shoe to get some of his anger out. Jared placed his ear on your chest to listen for a heartbeat. He heard it faintly beating and grow stronger when Shannon put the cold cloth on your skin. Your eyelids were fighting to stay open and Jared gave your head one more shake to get them to stay.
“...dad?” you said barely audible
“I’m here baby I’m here” he said through a smile after hearing his daughter say the word.
Shannon caressed her hair and ran the cool towel over her face, the color was flowing back into her cheeks.
“I’m sorry dad” you were able to get out. You wished you could take it all back. When you felt him catch you, his hands on your face, saw his tears you wished you could take back the moment you ran away.
“shhhhh (y/n) you don’t have to apologize to me” he said. Jared wanted to tell her sorry a hundred times for not noticing the warning signs and getting her help sooner.
“We just want to make sure you get better” Shannon whispered.
“You said I don’t know, but I do. We both do. We’ve been here before” Jared never wanted to seem weak in front of his daughter, but this was a learning experience for him just as much as her. This was nothing to feel ashamed about, he revealed his small crime to his daughter that she should have a long time ago. “that’s why i brought your uncle, he knows just how bad this can be”.
Your eyes widened upon hearing all of this, you couldn’t believe that they did stuff like this. The story kept you on the edge and prevented you from drifting off.
“It feels like a lifetime ago, but your dad saved me from some really dark places. Helped me defeat serious demons. Let him help you” Shannon was always more quiet, kept things to himself, this sudden release of emotion brought you to tears. And to reality.
“What do I do dad?” you asked feeling him wipe the tears away with his thumbs as he held your head.
“Just trust me baby okay?” he waited to continue until you shook your head yes. “And never run away from me again. That’s not us. We don’t do that to each other”.
You mustered up all the strength you had in your body and reached up to wrap your arms around his shoulders and hug him. He held you tightly letting his tears drop to your shirt. He looked over at his older brother who was leaning back on the bed taking in the moment of calm. He saw his baby brother holding his daughter and gaining back his confidence and strength. But he was still the younger one and Shannon had to protect him while he protected her.
“You’re nothing like dad” he said.
Jared gave him a genuine smile before burying his face in his daughters hair. He was going to be better, do better for her. You pulled away from him and he held onto your hands in his to keep you close.
“What’s next?” you asked
Jared chuckled, you hadn’t changed much since you were little. Always curious and always questioning, he could never get anything past you like you did him.
“I’ll get a good doctor, I know a few people around LA. We can keep it private for you.”
“I don’t want to go away anywhere! Please don’t leave me or send me to some rehab place.” you grew scared and wrapped yourself back around him. jared started rubbing your back to comfort you.
“I would never. Never ever do that to you. those places are a fucking joke. I’ll be with you the whole way I promise. We’ll do things at home and I’ll take you in for visits to the clinic okay?”
You held onto his shirt and took a deep breath to calm yourself down, you should have known your dad wouldn’t do that to you. You wanted to ask him a million questions and vent to him but when you opened your moth you could only get the words
“okay daddy” out.
Jared closed his eyes and continues to caress your back and feel your heart rate steady. hose were the most comforting words he could ever hear.
