How Hemera comes to be.

cross-posting the fic here since it's quite short!!

The last green leaf sets forth its branch, twirls around, flutters down before landing on the previously fallen soldiers, now dirt brown and half-eaten gray. As it settles into place, the tree heaves a sigh of relief.

The pile of leaves gets restless. It chews over the forthcoming fog as the nights grow colder for naked trees and low clouds alike.

Chilly days are on the horizon, the pile crunches, excited.

When the sun sets over the last summer day, smoldering heat nothing more than a distant memory beyond recall, a horn arises.

It’s a horn made out of pure gold, glinting in the feeble sunset.

The days shorten, and the horn lengthens.

It drains surrounding sunlight, heat, poppies by the root, and in turn, the leaves hanging loose on every limb are painted in yellow, orange, red, the warmest colors of them all, a farandole of burning banners raised high everywhere.

When autumn whispers in the breeze, a forelock green like summer grass emerges from the piles of leaves. The strands mingle with the hungry worms, merely bothering them as they inch toward their next meal. 

Surely, a forelock means a head, and a head means a body. The unicorn—because that’s what this is—whinnies and snorts.

The moldy leaves scatter everywhere, twirl for the last time this year.

Night welcomes the unicorn, and she stares at the stars through the trees, the constellations urging her on. The moon closes its eye to give her some privacy, the unicorn has much to do on the island.

Thank you @kelly-dreamway-sso and @feliciawolfpaw for making the SSO Promptoween and Promptober lists; this was my first time participating in something like this and I really enjoyed it.

If anyone ends up making a prompt list for the Christmas event, I might just try my hand at it again :D

Spots No thoughts today, just hors It's Esben, the knabstrupper that stays around Ydris' circus. Because... What could be better for this prompt than a knabstrupper. They are so deliciously ugly and wonky in SSO.

Hi! I was thinking of doing the SSO promptoween for the first time this year, and I was wondering if there were any rules for the photos? Like, does the horse AND rider have to be present in all the photos, or can it be one or the other? Just curious because this is my first year participating.

hi! there are no rules for this challenge! you can take pictures of your character, your horse, NPCs, animals, scenery... whatever you want :) you don't even have to stick to pictures; you can do moodboards, short stories, edits, or whatever else you want! just as long as it has something to do with the prompt word. and be sure to tag your posts so i can see them!
