Bread’s Game Journal 06/11/20: Playstation 5 Reveal Personal Highlights

Sony's big blowout for the Playstation 5 was today, and it's something I desperately needed. None of us knew quite what would be shown, nor how much they would actually show. Up to now Sony has been fairly stingy with games on PS5, preferring to talk about specs over anything we'd actually be playing, today that changed in a big way. There were a lot more games shown during this presentation than I'm going to cover here, so be sure to watch it if you haven't had a chance yet! Without further ado, i'm gonna go down the top 3 most exciting things, for me personally, shown during this presentation!

3. Demon's Souls, The Title I Will Never Say Correctly:

I didn't play Demon's Souls back when it came out, it's a pretty big gap for me in terms of the From Software library. I've heard from so many people I know that it's a shining paragon on the series right off the bat, with unique bosses, deadly locations and the same wonderful sense of overwhelming dread. So frankly, i'm looking forward to finally playing this old game with a fresh coat of paint! It may not be strictly new content, but it's absolutely something to get excited about right off the bat in this looming new console generation!

2. What's Up Danger? It's Me Again, Miles:

Spider-Man: Miles Morales, is a game I never actually thought would exist. Miles was a main character in Spider-Man on PS4 so I never thought he would simply vanish from the sequel, but for the sequel to be based on him entirely? I am absolutely thrilled about all of this. Miles Morales is easily one of the best characters in the Marvel stable, from the time he was introduced as the replacement Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe way back in 2011, to the unbelievably great "Enter The Spider-Verse" movie from a couple years back. From the sound of things, this isn't so much of a full sequel as it is a sort of mid sized game making use of a lot of existing assets and characters to create a new experience. Think an Uncharted: The Lost Legacy situation, and hopefully the same level of quality! It's also a big deal that this is obviously intended to be a launch game, people have been wondering what day one looks like for a long while, and now with this in the picture I think we know exactly what it's going to be: more web swinging action!

1. What is Ratchet & Clank May Never Die:

I can't believe it's 2020 and we're getting a brand new Ratchet and Clank game! Not that this is that strange, Insomniac clearly loves their Lombax and Robot duo, and it's incredibly endearing that as a franchise it's stuck around this long. I have vivid memories of getting the first game way back in 2002 on the PS2, primarily because I knew it was the "Spyro The Dragon People". The series has just kept going from there, and this latest one looks like an extremely strong return to form! The main gimmick of this entry seems to be falling through dimensional rifts that send you around to different times and places, most notably, totally seamless in their execution. The entire concept of the dimensional rifts and some of the terrain deformation they showed off in the brief gameplay demo seems to be a big proof of concept for the power of the SSD that Sony has insisted is such an integral part of their new system. If this is what a dev can get working with it this early in the consoles life cycle, imagine what they could do as time goes on! It doesn't seem Ratchet and Clank will hit the PS5 in it's first year, they specified no date other than a vague "we'll talk more soon", so who knows when we'll actually get our hands on this one. That said, that also gives us something to look forward to!

Now, Sony, be a bro and just accept the money I've been throwing at my computer screen all day. Please, I beg of you, just let me pre-order one of these things!

One thing I hate about myself yung ang pagiging OC pagdating sa organization ng PC ko. Meron kasing application na hindi ko ma-uninstall kanina at nabasa ko nga sa post nung developer ng app na merong ganung issue nkklk. Usually kasi kapag ganung may problema na nakakairita or kahit na anong issue sa laptop ko laging reinstall Windows ang solusyon hahaha mas gusto ko na yung fresh start lagi kaysa sa kumalikot pa ko ng kung ano-ano lalo lang nakaka-anxiety, alam mo naman ang mga windows computer hahaha. Konti lang naman ang naka-install na apps ko at lahat ng documents naka back-up in cloud at nasa SSD lahat so no worries pagdating sa bagay na yon. Kaso hindi ko na nga pwedeng i-reinstall ang windows kasi namamatay yung laptop at hindi nagcoconnect sa charger huhuhu ilang beses nang ganun ang nangyari. Kinailangan ko pang buksan ang loob ng laptop i-disconnect at i-reconnect ang battery cable tapos buong araw kong ilo-long press ang power button para lang mai-resurrect ko sya huhu ang hassle hassle. Ganito talaga ang sakripisyo kapag bumili ka ng cheap chinese-made laptop ano? Ayoko kasing bumili ng mamahalin at ito lang talaga ang kaya ng budget, ayoko rin namang magkanda utang utang hahaha. Well, siguro ganun na lang, kailangan ko nang tanggapin itong kalagayan ng laptop ko at hayaan ko na lang kung saan sya masaya. Lol

If you purchase a new computer from a big manufacturer (dell, hp, lenovo) reinstall windows before using it

As many people know, a lot of new computers are filled with bloatware with unwanted garbage such as antivirus trials, movie editor trials, pointless games, etc. The best way to not deal with all of that is to just clean install Windows to a new computer from a flash drive, which will remove all of that garbage and will speed up your new computer, especially if it only has a hard drive (side LPT get an SSD in 2020 its worth it)

Theres many tutorials on Youtube on how to make a Usb windows installer but ill make a simple list anyway:

Update: thanks to u/momentum77 for pointing this out, before reinstalling windows on a brand new machine, make sure to actually set up the original windows install and make it to the desktop before reinstalling, that way the Windows key will be activated so when you reinstall you wont get any activation issues

Search up “windows 10 media creation tool” on another pc (if you dont have another computer you can also do this process on the new computer) Download the tool from Microsoft Plug in a flash drive (make sure its empty because everything will be deleted) Follow the instructions on screen Pop in the flash drive to the new pc Go into the Bios and make sure to boot from the usb flash drive (this you will have to google or find a video on how to) Follow the installation instructions for Windows Enjoy a fresh windows install with little to no bloatware

One last thing, most drivers will be downloaded automatically and install on their own after you install windows but some might not, so in that case just go to your computer manufacturer’s website to get the rest

Game Journal 03/23/2020: My Computer Was Haunted, There’s No Other Explanation

I bought a new desktop pc to replace the one who’s motherboard fried about a month ago. Up until about a day ago there was no problem at all with the thing! Played games great, no real bugs to speak of, and then the SSD decided it was going to start failing. What followed was an absurd day I just had of recovery drives, more recovery drives, failed system images and more agonizing over fresh windows installs than I’d prefer. It took well over 12 hours of trying and trying again to get windows to boot up on a different drive, creating backups and feeling an intense rage at an inanimate object used to play video games. Luckily, by the end, I was able to install windows onto an internal hard drive, then clone it back onto another SSD from there! So I didn’t get to play many video games today (did play a single level of DOOM Eternal later in the night, not much to add there frankly, it still rules). People talk about PC gaming being a lot simpler today than it used to be (which, to be fair, it is) but every once and awhile you get a day like this and it’s just bonkers how frustrating something so otherwise simple can be sometimes!

No Screenshot today because I literally played 30 minutes of one video game lol. Stray Game Notes: - Guess who gets to re-install an absurd amount of games! Thankfully I have them all backed up so I don’t need to download anything, but it’s still gonna be annoying. - Rip and Tear - With all the hubub going around about lowered internet speeds and forced SD quality video, take it from me: A guy with 6mbs internet, you’ll be fine.

You can create a recovery disk from within Windows or use the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. I’ll show you both. The short version

Last week my laptop crashed and I needed to restore the hard disk. I make a backup everyday automatically using my Windows Home Server (version 1). I took the PC restore disc and booted the laptop and although the restore would start it would never complete.

Windows Home Server version 1 is not reliable enough for PC backup and if you’re using it you should replace it immediately. A possible alternative is a Acronis True Image which will be discussed further in a future post.

The long version

Restore software should just work; this was the promise of Windows Home Server but it is one that is no longer delivered. There are numerous problems reported on the Internet.

The network driver issue

One problem is that Windows Home Server version 1 was created for 32-bit Windows and I am now running Windows 7 64-bit on all my computers. Windows Home Server makes a copy of all your PC drivers to the server but these are 64-bit drivers and Windows Home Server restore is a 32-bit application therefore even if you copy these drivers onto a USB drive which you plug into the laptop when the restore application prompts you to do so you will not get a network connection to the backup archive on the Windows Home Server.

You must download 32-bit Vista network drivers from your PC manufacturer’s website and put these on the thumb drive instead of the 64-bit drivers

The stopping issue

The restore would execute for about three hours and then simply stop with no message.

Others have reported that when it stopped they got a “network error” message. Possible fixes include,

Ensuring that you have an Ethernet cable from your PC to the same switch as the server

ensuring that your DHCP leases are set to several days and do not expire during the restore.

I have fixed IP-addresses and a fast wired network therefore I think this is a software bug in the Windows Home Server, either in the restore routine or corruption of the actual data.

Alternative restore techniques

Direct connection to the server

There is an alternative that may work for some people but did not work for me. If you put the disc to be restored in a USB Drive Dock which you attach to the server itself you may be able to use the clientRestore.exe software present on server to restore the backup to the attached disk without going across the network.

Manual

Although it was not possible for me to restore the disk image from Windows Home Server it was possible to restore individual data files and directories providing that I did not try to copy too many files at once. Therefore the approach that I took to restore my laptop was to do a fresh install of the operating system (to a newly purchased disc) and then manually copy all my data onto the laptop and reinstall all my applications. This will be discussed in a future post

I recently had a nasty brush with Intel's SSD caching dropping a drive after a firmware upgrade, requiring me to recreate my 3 drive RAID0 array, restore from my last backup, then turn on SSD caching again in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology UI. Oh well, that's why I have backups:

So I dug up my restore DVD to recover, only to be greeted by this nasty error that I also get on my ThinkPad W520, so I was motivated and determined to get to the bottom of this problem. Previously, I had only been bitten by this bug when using USB boot devices. Apparently, this issue was now happening when booting from CD/DVD as well only because I had just updated gZilla's UEFI BIOS to 2.10 (previous restores earlier this year using DVD worked fine). So that left me fresh out of ways to get this system restored easily, not without solving this problem first anyway.

The error I got is shown here:

RestoreCDInit.exe - Application Error

The exception Cannot Continue Windows cannot continue from this exception. (0xc0000025) occurred in the application at location 0xff21b477.

Click on OK to terminate the program

The location number 0xff21b477 will likely vary. For example, this user reported location 0xff43b477 in this article:

Failing full client restore (CD or USB key), RestoreCDInit.exe - Application Error, 0xc0000025 at location 0xff43b477 social.microsoft.com/Forums/is/whs2011/thread/14f0a649-e9e9-4b79-a767-c850b773d117

but instead, I sometimes see location 0x00680229 when trying to boot from either the:

Windows Home Server 2011 or Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials recovery CD/DVD or USB key, from either:

using the Dashboard, Additional client computer backup tasks, Tools tab, Computer recovery 'Create key..' Use a computer recovery key to restore a client computer from an existing backup

2. using the ISO files to create a CD/DVD from MSDN called:

Client Restore Disc: Windows Home Server 2011 (x86 and x64) - CD (English) en_client_restore_disc_windows_home_server_2011_x86_x64_cd_658475.iso

Client Restore Disc: Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials (x86 and x64) - CD (English) en_client_restore_disc_windows_storage_server_2008_r2_essentials_x86_x64_cd_658474.iso

So what is the workaround?

Simple, just override the default boot for that recovery boot, choosing the UEFI version of the USB key at boot time (as richsmif concludes in the Microsoft discussion, thank you richsmif!)

What does this look like?

Screenshots below! Open jef files. These examples are likely applicable to many other modern/UEFI enabled systems as well:

On a Lenovo ThinkPad like tZilla, press F12 at boot time, and there is no UEFI USB option presented, but if you avoid any USB hubsor docking ports, and plug directly into a USB 2 port, you should be able to avoid the error

On an ASRock mobo system like gZilla, press F11 at boot time, and select the UEFI FLASH Drive device

On an ancient laptop, an IBM ThinkPad T30, I discovered that the RestoreCDInit.exe error is unavoidable with USB version of restore CD for Windows Home Server 2011, but works fine with the CD/DVD version. Give it a shot, and comment if it works for you too!

Feb 13, 2019 Having the same problem on my on my Mac even after following the directions for How to control a Mac running macOS 10.14 Mojave on both apple computers one running MAC OS 14 and one running MacOS 10.13. Team Viewer is the same Version on both computers. Also added Teamview to the Firewall Settings still no keyboard and mouse on remote computer. TeamViewer Not Working in Windows 10. Windows 10 is running on more than 800 million devices. Recently, I noticed a problem in it: the TeamViewer not working. Many users reported that they can't use it anymore after upgrading systems to Windows 10. There is no connection to partner. The session limit of Teamviewer is reached. Omnisphere 2 is slow as heck. So I just got omnisphere 2 and it is super slow. Traktor pro kontrol s2. It takes 30 seconds to load the plugins and 5 seconds to load each sound so browsing for sounds is hell. My PC can definitely run it since it is an i7 7700HQ, 16 GB RAM 256 GB SSD. Also, all of omnisphere and fl studio is on the ssd so i can't see where the problem lies. Username: Password: (lost your username or password?) Hi everybody! Does anybody else have issues with Omnisphere 2 in terms of loading times of the GUI? In particular, if you load up a project - and open a track with Omni2 on it, its a delay of about 30 seconds until the GUI shows up. (S1 is not reactive in that time, too..) Made the same test with Bitwig Studio, and there is only a delay about 5 seconds until the GUI shows up. Anyone else can test this, or is it already a known issue? (IMPORTANT: has to be a big project (around 30+ tracks with different VSTs loaded.etc.) in a fresh project, only loading one instance of Omnisphere is also fast ~about 5 seconds)

Yes, it's been slower to load for me also. I got both Omni2 and S1 3 at about the same time. Always assumed it was the new Omni that was slow. Everything else loads at the same speed. S1 3 definately has worse CPU performance than V2 for me.

yeah def dealing with around 2000 ms of GUI lag with omni 2 in pretty much any daw I open it up in. its on omnis side.

no its not omnisphere's fault, as I said - in Bitwig Studio the opening process of the GUI is much faster (around 5 sec in big projects with many omnisphere instances)

What graphics do you have on your system? There is a definate problem between Waves and Intel on my system, and I am wondering if Intel may be causing an issue on your system?

Thanks a lot! This is a really serious issue..if you use many omnisphere instances, waiting everytime 30> seconds is a real workflow-killer.

See I talked about a maximum of 2000 ms of lag for the gui to open. I don't have any difference in omni load times on my beast of a computer in different daws was my point. Your talking 5000 ms+ something is going on

Omni 2.1 released this morning. Improvements include fixing the slow load/boot time for Omni 2. So, apparently it was Omni, not Studio One. Haven't tried it out yet, just woke up.

So most likely you have Intel integrated on the mobo. Intel makes a crappy driver. I would look for an update to that. Check with your pc manufacturer website, as sometimes windows incorrectly reports the installed driver to be the most current.
