Specifically because Nojima is on Twitter, I almost want the CA's and A stans to keep bitching and complaining and spreading their lies. Because he sees their BS all the time, and he's debunked a lot of CA and A arguments that have ever been made.

Like the CA's clamoring for a kiss; or claiming that their high-five in Remake was super special awesome and totally romantic; or claiming that Cloti weren't actual childhood friends; or claiming that Cait Sith totally ships them together because of that fortune in TOTA in OG; or claiming that Cloud finds A's dumbass antics endearing and he opens up to her and defrosts because of her...

Only for Nojima to turn all of those claims and clamoring... and canonize them as Tifa and Cloti moments. And turning Barret, Yuffie and Cait Sith into extremely obvious Cloti shippers, and the entirety of Sector 7 as well.

And in turn, Nojima makes Cloud extremely intolerant of A and rejecting A openly, repeatedly friend-zoning A in both games and calling A weird 4 times in JP (3 times in EN). And the funeral date explicitly shows how incompatible and unsuitable CA really is, even in a world where Zack and Tifa don't exist and Cloud is still SOLDIER Cloud.

And the Remake (and, to a lesser extent, Rebirth) Ultimanias clearly show that Tifa's scenarios are canon and Cloud (despite still being SOLDIER Cloud at the moment) displays his true/real self only around Tifa; while A's scenarios are not canon to the plot, and he's suspicious of and annoyed and angry around A.

The more the CA's try to spread their bullshit, the more Nojima (and Nomura and Kitase) is going to canonize Tifa and Cloti moments instead, and such moments will be a blatantly high-key shade towards CA and A. It's literally a self-fulfilling prophecy that those idiots stupidly fall for, every single time.

Fun fact: Nojima follows an account that ss shit the dumdums say.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Review

I’ve officially finished the game and I have soooo many thoughts and theories and emotions, so imma jump right in about what I loved, what I wanted more of, what I disliked and what I want to see for part 2. This is gonna be long, but Spoilers below the cut! (also I am not including anything about ships in this)

What I enjoyed/loved:

Characters:

Like with FFXV, I think this games biggest strengths lie with it’s characters (unlike FFXV, I think the story has the potential to be strong too, but I’ll get to that later).

It goes without saying that for me this is the best characterization of Cloud Strife since the original game. I really love the character development we see with him just within part one (we see him go from lovable jerk to really caring about his companions and making the effort to listen to them and comfort them, even if it’s not easy for him and he struggles a lot). I really have a soft spot for characters like that and I think it’s done really well here.

Tifa Lockhart is BEST GIRL! I have so much love for this girl and she’s hands down my favorite to play as (I even made her the leader in the fights because I can don’t @ me). Tifa shows that you can have your cake and eat it too, in that she can be gentle, considerate, kind, and even shy at times, but she still takes names and kicks butt; she doesn’t have to sacrifice who she really is to be considered a bad*ss female character. I think her character is greatly expanded on here than in the original and we get to see just how everything affects her and not just Cloud (which is important since they have been through a lot of the same traumatizing events).

I always thought Barret Wallace was an interesting character, especially seeing his backstory in the original game (something I can’t wait for in the next installment). Here, it’s down 10x better and I love every second he’s on screen. I’m very excited to see how that Black and White morality view he has on the world will be broken down and really put a strain on how he view himself and the things he’s done. I also adore to the heavens his relationship with little Marlene. Also the way he starts to Dad towards Cloud 😭😭😭

Now on the the best character of the entire game. Mere words cannot express how much I adore Aerith Gainsborough. Her characterization is a god-send that I definitely wouldn’t have appreciated had I not looked into other FFVII properties and saw the disservice they do to her. Fortunately for us, in Remake, Aeirth is everything we originally loved about her and more. She’s got a mischievous and sassy side that I adore and just love how she plays off of Cloud. Their interactions were so sweet and genuine and got quite a few laughs out of me.

Other characters:

Um where to start. First of all, Avalanche. I can relate to Jessie on spiritual level because I too thirst for Cloud Strife. All said and done though, he characterization is great and she’s a lot of fun. Her backstory is good too and her relationship with the rest of Avalanche is very genuine. And I love Biggs and Wedge with all my heart. I overall think the expanded character development for these 3 is spot on and really makes their “deaths” hit hard.

Marlene Wallace is a precious baby and I can cry all day about how precious her scenes with Barret are😭😭😭😭

Red XIII is the best boy and he’s hilarious. I can’t wait to delve more into his backstory when we get to Cosmo Canyon.

The Side characters in Wall Market are some of the best in the game. They're all interesting and I really hope we see more of them. 

I hate everyone at Shinra HQ but also Reeve is a good boy, but also screw Hojo x10, but also Scarlet can step on me, but also THE TURKS (where tf is Elena😭), but also SCREW HOJO, bust also that Kunsel/Crisis Core reference tho, but also Rufus Shinra CAN GET IT.

I said it before, but Sephiroth is actually very intimidating (not that he wasn’t in his other appearances, especially Advent Children) but hoo boy, the way we actually see how it terrifies Cloud really makes it stick for me. Sephiroth can get it too don’t @ me.

Story/Other:

I know a lot of long-time and even recent fans won’t agree, but I thought the story was very, very good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s flawed, but would I have honestly been happy with a shot-for-shot high definition update with some expansion here and there? Yeah probably, but I know how that story goes. 

I think doing a complete 180 to the story we know is a huge risk that I have hopes will pay off. I really love the idea that by changing fates of certain characters for the better (ie. Zack, Biggs, maybe Jessie and Wedge), Cloud and the others may have doomed themselves to an even worse fate with Sephiroth and I absolutely love that I don’t know where it’s going to go from here. I mean, I sure we’ll still get our fan favorites like Costa del Sol, the Gold Saucer, Yuffie, Vincent, Cid and ELENA, but we’re in for so many twist and turns and whatever the heck Zack being alive will do to the universe (or alternate universe? Idk I have theories).

My favorite areas in the game were the Sector 7 Slums, Aerith’s House, Wall Market, the Collapsed Expressway and Shinra HQ.

I think the voice acting is good, and for some character’s it’s great. The main cast (Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Red XII and Avalanche) is VERY GOOD and the major side characters are good too. I already know there is discourse about Sephiroth and Zack’s English VA’s so I’m not sharing my opinion right now on that. 

Also the soundtrack is god-tier. I cannot stop listening to “Hollow” and hearing updated renditions of tracks from the original soundtrack somehow made me nostalgic for a game I only started playing last year. It’s top-notch imo.

What I didn’t like:

There’s nothing in the game I genuinely hated to the point where it ruined things for me.

I did enjoyed the second half of the sidequest for Sector 5 Slums (when you have Tifa and Barret back in your party), but the other sidequest were either annoying or hit and miss.

There’s also the issue with padding and certain areas seeming to go on forever. I really liked the Train Graveyard, for the first 20 minutes and after that it kinda dragged on too long for me (we had like two major boss fights in that one area😩) especially when the next major story part was the drop of the Sector 7 plate. I did love the little scene with Aerith waiting to be found; that was really good.

I also am confused about the back and forth about how much Aerith may know about her and the others’ fates. At times, it seems like she knows much more than she’s letting on and other times, she either really doesn’t know or she subconsciously is aware of something, but I guess it’s to be revealed.

Enough people have commented about the graphics and npcs in certain scenes (you know what I mean) so imma just say that at best it’s hilarious and at worse it’s very distracting.

What I want to see next and my overall rating for part 1:

As expressed before, I’m excited to see how much the story diverges and if the Arbiters of fate are really gone. I just feel like there’s more than Sephiroth pulling the strings here, but who knows. I also can’t wait for more references to Crisis Core (if ya’ll show me Kunsel I’ll cry) and I definitely hope we get more scenes of Zack and Cloud in the, I guess, alternate reality? Also playable Red XIII and If ya’ll think i’m thirsty for the characters in this game, just want until Vincent freakin’ Valentine shows up. 

All and all, I think I can confidently rate part one with a solid 9/10. It’s flawed, but it’s going in such an unexpected direction I didn’t anticipate that I’m left hungry for more. The characters are stellar and the expansion of certain parts of the game is amazing. I cannot wait for part two guys. I hope you all found something to enjoy too. Now I’m in the process of replaying it along with some other games I need to finish. I’ll still be tagging spoilers for now (ffvii remake spoilers)

Combat Ratings (Final Rose)

When it comes to ratings of combat ability, the most commonly used scale is as follows:

EX++ Rank > EX+ Rank > EX Rank

SSS Rank > SS Rank > S Rank

AAA Rank > AA Rank > A Rank

BBB Rank > BB Rank > B Rank

CCC Rank > CC Rank > C Rank

DDD Rank > DD Rank > D Rank

EEE Rank > EE Rank > E Rank

EX Rank is the highest combat rating with E Rank being the lowest combat rating. To put this into perspective, an average, untrained, civilian child would have a rating of E Rank. EEE Rank is the most common rating for members of a typical militia group. An average fully qualified huntsman or huntress would have a rating between C Rank and CCC Rank.

It is also important to note that the scale is not linear. Someone with a rating of SSS Rank is capable of killing thousands of CCC Rank individuals. Someone who is EX++ Rank is capable of wiping out entire teams of SSS Rank individuals without suffering significant injury in return.

Students at the most prominent senior academies, like Beacon Senior Academy, will typically range from DDD Rank to B Rank during their academy years. However, especially prodigious students can attain ratings as high as BBB or even A Rank while attending an academy.

So how do some of our most prominent characters stack up?

Given how odd these ratings are, some explanation may be necessary. In any other time period, people like Snow and Caius would be so far above almost all of their peers that they would simply be referred to as EX Rank individuals. However, the presence of people like Lightning and Fang who dwarf even their power forced the revision of the system to include tiers above EX Rank.

Summer - EX (Prior to injury) or SS (Following the injury)

Team SYLV is an interesting case since both Yeul and Vanille have incredibly powerful abilities that are not at their full strength in typical combat situations. Nevertheless, both Yeul and Vanille are exceedingly skilled and powerful in comparison to normal huntsmen and huntresses.

There are a couple of things to unpack here. Ruby’s EX Rank is actually higher than she would normally be assigned but her Semblance is so deadly when used to its full extent that it boosts her into the EX Rank. In contrast, Weiss’s rating is reduced to account for her being unable to unleash her full strength without someone to act as a shield for her.

You might have noticed how highly everyone rates on this scale. That is because Beacon is the single greatest collection of talent in the world. Anyone who just gets into Beacon is already in the top 1% of students and the top students are in even more rarified air.

The most powerful combat team in Final Rose is Team LFSC. For that reason, their arrival on the battlefield is usually preceded by an order for all other forces to evacuate, so they can simply annihilate everything in their path without worrying about collateral damage. 

Prior to her injury, Summer was EX Rank. However, the long, arduous recovery from her near-fatal injuries resulted in her slipping down to SS after her injury. This reduction is primarily a result of her decreased stamina. Once she completes her rehabilitation, Summer’s maximum combat potential is still worthy of EX Rank. However, she can not longer fight at that level for extended periods of time. Hence, she must fight at significantly below her full strength during extended battles, resulting in a reduced rating.

SPEAKING OF WHICH yusuke and protag from persona 5. Srsly wtf why does this guy have such a similar name when theyre nothing alike? Aside from the fact poor yusuke is way more out about his sexuality and gets to be the butt of a million jokes...

Chrom x specifically male protag (fire emblem awakening) female protag version is actually canon but i always HATED how her scenes with him are all cliche anime 'whoops fell into boobs' and 'nobody likes a woman who doesnt cook'. Male protag route is infinately more romantic just cos it actually shows their personalities! I mean if they both had the same dialogue just like most other scenes, i woulda been fine with the fem protag romance geez..

Virion x Panne (also fire emblem awakening) i have no idea why this obscure pairing grasped my heart and why more people dony like it! I like it cos panne snipes back at virion and takes none of his shit like sully, but without the whole 'girl who says she doesnt love him in the first scene eventually loves him if he keeps wearing her down' thing. And i like all the interesting cultural exchange that comes from a really pompous nobleman clashing with a rough and tumble stern fighter from an ancient lost lineage of lapinthropes. I dunno, his development into appreciating women just seems more genuine when you have this sort of auxilary sign that he's changed. He's willing to drop his pompousness and go on a big mountainclimbing adventure just to get her a traditional courtship flower amoungst her people! And its really adorable to see that like.. Its his first time ever getting nervous around a woman, cos this time the feelings are genuine instead of just lust and nothing else. And it was hilarious that he tried to get drunk to get over his fears, and then he fumbled the confession because of it! They have so many great sarcasm battle scenes, its hilarious AND adorable! Oh man and the scene where they actually got really emotional and panne talked about hoping her dead family is watching from the moon, and virion being vunerable about his past and just... AAA its such an unexpectedly good couple for such wildly different charries!!

Avery x Mason (hustle cat) mason is the most badass lady ever holy shit everyone should date her and she should lift them all over her head and maybe seven cars. She's a biker gang badass and a super cake chef and can turn into a cat and just EVERYTHING IS PERFECT ABOUT THIS CHARACTER THANKS FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK

Husky and Cooro (+anima) i know theyre just kids but i totally get a precocious crush vibe from cooro, and like it only ever seems that husky gets embarassed over 'but what will everyone think' rather than because he doesn't like him. And husky has a lot of issues with internalized 'i need to be super manly' type anxieties and all.

Quale and Quan (ff9) okay i guess not really a ship but a past ship? I kinda saw them as a toriel and asgore type divorced couple from how stuttery and awkward quale is about how quan left and betrayed qu society. Headcanon that really it was more like 'my boyfriend wants to go adventuring and i wanna stay and live in this safe town, and he decided that adventure was more inportant than me'. I prefer this headcanon cos really neither of them would be at fault here, yknow? Complexity! Also grandpas shipping! Both great things!

Cloud and barret (ff7) cmon yo they have a load of chemistry and have so much in common backstory wise and in terms of putting up a grumpy front and being scared of letting themselves ever love again. And barret is the handsomest character in the game! And he's super tormented and in need of love just ss much as vincent geez, even if he isnt a funky fashion vampire. But he's a BIG HUGS BEAR MAN!! And he has a sweet little daughter! And there's several opportunities for cloud to act nice to marlene and seriously imagine him as a dad!! And barret even does get a 'date' with cloud if you play the game super precisely to unlock that easter egg but its clearly meant to be a joke and all. I hope maybe they could make it more legit in the remake now we're in an era of more lgbt representation and all. Also i feel bad but i never felt any chemistry between cloud and any of the female characters? It seemed like tifa was intended to be his canon love interest and all but i never liked it, and i never felt anything more than bffs with him and aerith. Plus aerith and zack is classic sweet star torn lovers! And then literally no clue why people ship him with yuffie and elena from the turks (???) Try barret sometime. We need more barret fanart in general, even of nobody else likes this ship! Appreciate him!!

Bebop and Rocksteady (ninja turtles) look, 6 year old me wanted them to get married before i even learned that That Thing Is Supposed To Be A Man And A Woman Under God or whatever. dreamwidth update: Mobile Game Monday!

we're back at it: Mobile Game Monday! Let's talk phone games!

FFRK Having become overly frustrated with the Type-0 Apoc+ fight - the fuck was that damage??? - I let the event pass incomplete, because I do not have time for that shit. I had a slow week in RK so I still have to clear the Dimensions event (0/7), the III event (0/17), the 3rd anniv (0/10), and the new CT -- while also making my way through the Torments before the end of June (ideally before the end of May, since the Cid Missions are going away!!!!!!). Luckily a lot of the events will be auto-battle I can do at my desk.

I picked up new toys for Yuffie, Cloud, and Zack on the half price VII banner, so I'll need to dive Yuffie and hone up the 5* water ninja skills (damn u Dark Orbs) because I now have her Glint and her Arcane which is apparently a water gamechanger combo. Other hones I'm focusing on ATM are the new Heavy Combat abilities, because I have Cinque's USB, which uses them to great effect; and the earth-based Knight abilities, which similarly work with Dorgann's USB. Both of these can step up my physical earth team A-Game (magic earth team is covered solely by Maria, who is a goddamned beastmachine).

All of that being said, I really need to focus on the Torments. My normal strategy is to bring healer with BSB, at least 2 BSBs with AOE to make it through the trash rounds, at least 1 powerhouse person who just attacks the whole way and then unloads, and a buff/debuff package. (Sometimes these overlap). That being said, sometimes I think I go through the trash "too easily" and instead I should just spend more time on them building gauge to make whatever boss is at the end that much easier. ugh. UGH! I will share results.

FFBE I have declared myself done farming the MK event, which has freed up my stamina; I'm probably going to focus on catching up with story while it's half-price. I'm happy to see the story event mainly because I need crystals very badly - I need to farm crystals and EXP both, because I have decent pulls I'm still leveling (Wilhelm, Mystea, and Ashe #2) and enhancements I want (Fryevia, Olive).

Since I'm hoping to trip over the 100% moogle from the story for Frye ;), I'm working on TM farming some other weapons: Drace's sword, Excalibur, Robbin Hood's axe.

Trying to decide on a power party to maybe start tackling the harder dungeons (lollllll@self): I have Ayaka, Wilhelm and/or Mystea can tank, and I have Ramza and Roy for buffs. I guess my best bet would be DW chainers, either my two Ashes or the Agrias/Oldmandeau duo, but I gotta work on gearing everybody. I did get Emperor's rod so that's a nice tool.

The White Queen outfit up now looks pretty cool, so I'm trying to farm that out in time -- which means going back to earlier stages where I didn't quite know what I was doing yet and skipped the bonus stages. Gotta get those Ss!

I went in for 3 of the band suits; wasn't worth going for them all, but I thoroughly enjoy the pieces.

Hi Silver! Now that Intergrade has been released I am finally playing Final Fantasy again! It’s never looked better! Oh actually I think you know I am because I asked you if graphics or performance mode was better. Well I am doing graphics mode. And it’s just gorgeous! And gosh Tifa looks just too beautiful for words! Cloud is such a lucky dork because he’s got the affections of this gorgeous woman whom he’s in love with but he just won’t act on it cause he’s too shy. Sigh Cloud my boy hopefully in Part 2 you will man up a little and start romancing the girl you love. I just finished the Reactor 5 mission and I gotta say it is one of my favorite parts of the game! I love the banter between Cloud, Tifa, and Barret and the boss battle at the end was epic! Oh and we get that super sexy train roll! Gosh dang it why didn’t they kiss? Well I am really excited to see how the rest of the game looks now and I also can’t wait to get to Yuffie! But most importantly I cannot wait to see more of those beautiful Cloti moments like the hug when Cloud’s true self came through and when Tifa saves him after his battle with Rufus.

I'm up to chapter 6 and the difference in the underplate now is amazing! Way more dingy with the lighting and the view of the slums under the plate is so detailed I had to ss it 😁

Yuffie's lots of fun and hard mode isn't even that hard, although imma send chadley to the scrap heap he keeps kicking my ass at Fort condor lol
