Undertale Toriel - She's not too sure how she ended there, but now she is kinda stuck in the middle of the crowd so she guesses she's a part of it now? She's more concerned about all these young people walking in the street topless. Don't you know it's still cold outside? You're all going to be sick! What if it rains? She learns a lot of things about nonbinary people though and keeps taking notes to report to Frisk as soon as she gets home :')

Undertale Asgore - He just had a bunch of rainbow flowers in front of his shop and somehow now his shop is invaded by young people who kept congratulating him for some reason and he has no flowers anymore after an hour. He's a bit in shock and confused, but, eh, at least his business is working! He's still not sure what happened though.

Undertale Undyne - She's having fun, both proudly representing lesbians and scaring the shit out of any queerphobe guy too close to her. She has Alphys on her shoulders the whole time and even takes breaks to get out of the crowd when her lizard wife is too overwhelmed.

Undertale Alphys - So many people... She's holding for dear life to Undyne, but slowly relaxes as the day goes on, as Undyne makes sure to let her breathe from time to time when she's too overwhelmed. Eventually, Alphys even starts talking to some people and finds another lesbian scientist and they end the day talking excitingly about nerd things while their girlfriends sympathize.

Undertale Frisk - They're both here to represent genderless people and queer monsters! Frisk has to do a lot of speeches during the day. They're the one everyone sends when journalists ask too many questions as Frisk is trained to answer most of them. Frisk is excited they can help their way and make things move because they're a little bit of a celebrity now.

Undertale Chara - They're following Frisk around, being the second prince(ss) of Monsterkind but Chara refuses all interactions with other humans. They clearly stated they're here to support monsters during pride month, not the others. They're hissing at every journalist or giving death glare, letting Frisk handle everything.

Undertale Mettaton - He's an official guest of the pride and he's performing all day to support his fellow queer people. He's having fun, everyone is calling him a trans icon and he could never get bored of all the attention.

Undertale Gaster - What... What's going on? He wanted to go to the grocery stores. And now he's in the middle of a crowd. With his groceries. And people are drawing random flags on his bones? And somehow he's too confused to say no? Gaster is completely lost. Can he go home now?

Undertale Grillby - He's making sure everyone stays hydrated and well-fed. He cooked a lot for the pride and he has his own Grillby's float where everyone can come and buy food during the walk. He's also watching his niece, walking with the lesbians like 10 meters in front of him. He's multitasking!

Undertale Muffet - She's mad because Grillby has a float and hers got refused. So she's selling her pastries at the foot of Grillby's float, trying to steal his clients lol. Sure, all that she sells technically goes to the same association Grillby's sales are going, but still! She will sell more than him! Her ego can't take it!

Undertale Burgerpants - He's hiding from Mettaton in Grillby's float, making himself busy by helping the fireman because he can't stand the idea of staying an entire day next to Mettaton. It's not that bad though. He keeps flirting with gay people so he's having fun! At least until he flirted too much with a guy already married and got chased by the husband across the entire parade.

Undertale Flowey - Well he can't really participate since, you know, he has no legs. So he's insulting homophobes from the window. He even throws himself from the balcony after he saw someone insult Chara and then he bit their ankles like an enraged chihuahua.

Undertale Gerson - He's only there to show all these stupid Karen that old boomers understand what being queer means and that they have no excuse to be queerphobic. He painted his shell with flags so he's visible from far away!

OG Undertale characters in SequenceShift.

Pretty sure some folks are wondering what happened to the canon characters in this timeline, so I figured I'd briefly go over what happened to the major ones by this point.

Frisk and Chara

Still a WIP honestly. All I have so far is Chara wasn't the first human to fall down (that was the Integrity Soul) and the Determination Soul is one of the first human souls. This is gonna stay on the back burner for a bit.

Toriel and Asgore

Unfortunately, our favorite goats aren't around anymore. While they did exist and started as the Royal Family, the Dreemurs sadly lost their lives during the Great War. Instead, a royal advisor to the King (aka Ceroba's mom) would take the reins of leadership in the Underground and become the first Empress. Her influence is why the Underground in SS's continuity has a more East Asian influence to it compared to the original.

Also, for obvious reasons, Asriel doesn't exist in this AU.

Sans and Papyrus

Gonna say off the bat, don't expect much concerning Sans in this AU. Look, I enjoy him as a character, but I find him WAAAAAY to oversaturated within the Undertale fandom and I'm pretty sick of it. In fact, one the big reasons I like Undertale Yellow is because it's one of the few fan projects which doesn't have him involved at all lol. And because of that, he and his bro have a pretty small presence in this AU. Because of that, I don't have anything planned for either of them, but if they are around in the AU, it's probably gonna be as minor characters in the Lakeside Region.

Undyne

Undyne here is Captain of the Honor Guard. This group is an elite team of soldiers that's responsible for the defense of the Empress, as well as New Kingdom. These are made up of UT's Royal Guard characters, since their SS equivalent, the Rangers, is made up of the Feisty Five and OCs. Undyne's mostly the same passionate, steadfast, anime-loving warrior she is in the original. She actually is a pretty close friend/sparring partner with Ceroba. She's also the only one so far who's managed to beat the Empress in an arm-wrestling competition (not even Ed has come close to that).

Alphys

Alphys is still around. Since she never became the Royal Scientist, she still hangs out with Bratty and Catty. She's a tech student living in the Sand Dunes with a good mind for robotics. Not too much fleshed out for her yet, but I do have the idea of a sideplot concerning her building a Mettaton prototype or whatnot.

And that's it for the main cast so far. Got a couple ideas for the minibosses, but still working on the deets. Lemme know what you think so far.

Hi!! Of course I'd love to ty 4 asking <333

I'm a big swap!Toriel apologist and which is soo hypocritical of me bc of how much I bully Asgore lmao but!! Sweetswap and Loveswap Toriel are so great.

So sweetswap kind of parallels Heartfell in the theme of "everything may not be as it seems". Aesthetically, it's all about pastels and cuteness and, well, sweetness! Everyone is extra friendly and kind natured, but the thing is...they're basically ignoring what they're really doing to break the barrier (and the war that will follow). SS Toriel is actually a bit more in line with UT Asgore's line of thinking than I usually characterize US Toriel, in that...she feels trapped in this decision she's made, she hates doing this, but she still believes it's the only way to save her people.

I won't get into it, but she doesn't tell the kids who reach her the truth. She tries to make it as painless as possible, at least, but she's really a very sad, lonely person. She isolates herself in her castle whenever she's not making her Obligatory Morale-Boosting trips to the various towns of the underground. Clover has mixed feelings about it all, but he and SS Alphys have both tried helping her out some, yet the guilt weighs in her too heavily.

After surfacing, at first, she continues attempting to isolate while taking responsibility for her people, but with a lot of time (and therapy), she winds up having healthier relationships with everyone again. It's actually Dandelion (SS Asgore) who really gets through to her and initiates the biggest internal changes. She's not helping anyone by hating herself so much.

As for LS Toriel, wow!! She's a crazy lady. She's actually a little like Rose from Steven Universe, if Rose seemed to act more "mature" and level headed. Well, and more intense. Things in their underground are rough, tbh, instead of pitting all their hopes on the souls and the war, Toriel kind of...dives headlong into the idea that, in the meantime at least, they could make the underground a nice place to live, after all, monsters depend on hope and love, which comes from building strong relationships, right? On paper, it's a great idea! Let's make this dumpster fire as much of an Eden as we can, right?

Well, the thing is, monsters tend to *latch onto ideas. So over time, this gradually became more and more distorted, leading to an over emphasis on relationships and love and depending on others above everything else. The more people love you the better! They'll do almost anything to seek approval and popularity amongst each other, and Toriel, unfortunately, leans heavily into this pattern of thinking as a very mutated coping mechanism for all the issues she's repressing. Love and acceptance and adoration are above anything else, and she tries desperately to be a ruler worthy of that, from everyone. She even goes as far as working with both Undyne and Alphys to hide statistic of who's Fallen, which puts even more pressure on Undyne to find a way to save them.

Under the thin veneer of Aesthetics and Ideals, the underground is rotting. Things aren't nearly as bad as Lovefell, for example, but they're not great! And Toriel has fooled even herself into buying the delusion.

On the surface, she still struggles for a long time, as she has to face decades, if not centuries of repressed trauma while slowly discarding bad coping mechanisms. Especially given everyone has hard feelings with her, so she has to start in a place with very little support. It's grueling work, but she puts it in. Not to make up for what she's done, but to help monsters make a better future and be the kind of person she should've been a long time ago.

character positions

this is what the characters do, or how they operate in the story, along with personalities. some of these are subject to change, along with designs! this is an ongoing au after all. 

sans: papyrus swap. his goal is to join the royal guard, but not really for himself. it’s more to prove himself to his little brother, who has been in the royal guard for years. instead of puzzles, sans sets up traps around snowdin for chara to trigger. also, he is not innocent, nor does he pretend to be. he’s a dumbass bastard and he fully knows it. he is nice, but if you make him angry, he will spit in your food when you’re not looking and then serve it to you. he is also a terrible cook. if he offers a friendship meal, run. your stomach will not survive it.

papyrus: sans swap. he’s been in the royal guard for so long that it no longer phases him, so he’s grown lazy about it. he loves his job, but it doesn’t have all the glamour that it used to have. he also likes to eat healthy, balanced meals, and is an amazing cook. however, his job keeps him so busy that he doesn’t have the time to cook. 

alphys: undyne swap. big and scary, but only really when she’s in the mecha. however, while chasing chara into hotland, she trips, and instead of dehydrating, she falls into a panic attack, which chara nervously helps her through, confusing alphys. she definitely fits into the jock archetype. she isn’t in the royal guard, but she is a hometown hero for waterfall. think vigilante for alphys. despite everyone clamoring for her, she excludes herself from any social interactions as she’s made mistakes in the past that cause her to believe she doesn’t deserve any of the attention. nervous out of mecha, confident in mecha. 

undyne: alphys swap. undyne is the royal scientist, though she generally enjoys thinking up things to destroy humanity or at the very least cause harm to them. once chara falls into the underground and undyne has sights on them, she begins to make passive aggressive comments on her account on the undernet about them. she’s very stuck up at first, but as chara progresses and undyne sees that they aren’t that bad, she slowly softens and starts to help, especially after chara meets and begins to deal with the eccentric nature of napstabot. she enjoys mech anime and kaiju movies, and helped alphys make her armor. 

temmie: flowey swap. temmie does go by she/her, though asriel goes by he/him and maybe even they/them. originally, before being taxidermied, temmie was the original royal pet. she was there around the time that frisk fell and when asriel died, his dust falling on top of her. a few days later, she died as well. undyne, instead of using buttercups, decided to use the taxidermied temmie in her dt experiments, causing temmie to ‘come to life’ and become a vessel for asriel. asriel/temmie is angry because frisk was an angel, and didn’t desrve what happened to them. there are also multiple other temmies, all in queen toriels throne room. 

flowey: temmie swap. generally kept as common pets. they bounce up and down and speak basic english. you’ll see one in almost every shop and home. however, some versions, like echo, aster or golden are not generally kept as pets for a very simple reason: they have a tendency to, on some occasions, predict the future. 

toriel: asgore swap. instead of demanding the death of humans, she demands that the humans be brought to her for her to raise. however, monsters have a tendency to over estimate their magic in battle or over estimate how much humans can take, or they’re just plain terrified of humans and kill them in a moment of terror. toriel weeps over the fallen souls that are brought to her, and instead of keeping them in capsules near the barrier, she keeps them in capsules close to her so that she can watch over them and make sure that they’re safe and secure at all times. when chara gets to toris fight, shes fighting chara because she’s admittedly terrified of going up to the surface, and she doesn’t want chara to leave just yet. what would the humans think of them coming up with a teenager? probably horrible things. 

asgore: toriel swap. he lives in the ruins. gardening every inch and making rounds to make sure every flower has been watered. that’s how he finds chara and temmie. generally, he rushes humans out of the ruins, trying to convince himself that they’re evil and bad. however, every time he grows attached, and cries when the human leaves. he grew especially attached to chara.

chara: frisk swap. chara falls into the underground because they’re angry at the human world and all of the hate inside of it. they’re a severely misguided kid with a tendency to lash out at those around them and to think the worst of everyone they meet, always assuming they have an ulterior motive or that they’re evil in some way, like they think they are. their journey is about coming to peace with themselves and the world around them, and learning that not everyone is bad or out to get them and that people can and do care about them. they learn that they can be soft and trust others and that freeing the monsters would be a good thing, because even if their is evil on the surface, there’s good, too, and freeing the monsters would add to the good of the world.

frisk: chara swap. frisk is the first human to fall and befriends asriel. they become best friends, but somehow, frisk manages to actually confuse buttercups with edible food, eating them and accidentally poisoning themself. frisk is a pacifist at heart, and believes that everyone is good.

mettablook: napstablook swap. he maintains the small snail farm while also being a struggling fashion designer. his wish is to create fashion for everyone of all shapes and sizes, though it’s hard with  low amount of money, so he works many jobs around the underground, even helping asgore with his plants. the different areas of the underground also serve as inspiration for him. 

napstabot: mettaton swap. the body made by undyne was perfect in many aspects except one, its low energy combined with his own low energy. to combat this, undyne made a special charger for him, giving his body and his soul an extra pep. he makes sick beats and seems super happy and charged up, but it’s all thanks to the charger. he can also only be out for short periods of time before his charger starts running out of juice and he has to leave or else he’ll ruin his star reputation. in battle, you would win by knocking his charger off. 

grillby: muffet swap. he still doesn’t talk very much, instead preferring to play an exciting game of charades to communicate. around the underground, he owns many food carts, all ran by his fellow flames. they sell the same foods as in the game. 

muffet: grillby swap. she runs a cafe in snowdin that papyrus frequents. it’s cozy and warm, and sells tons of sweets, pastries, and warm drinks. she does not do tabs, however, and if you try to open one you will be banned from her cafe.

Scientists Squad

I finally post it, Yay! :D Sooooo, here ya have Scientists Squad. Let me short it - SS. Yes, it’s like short form “Storyshift”, I know =w=

So, Scientists from SS are - Lamef, Numbert, Simon, Bratty and Catty. Yes, those last two are this suprise, but unfortunetly someone guess correctly who are those robotics specialists from game. 

I need to tell, that though everyone from SS are specialists from something else, everyone of them has knowledge from other fields. They’re just specialist from their field becuase they have best knowledge and skills, and they taking this role in th squad. 

Now, I’ll tell something about everyone of them separatly. (BTW, I had terrible problem with pictures TwT)

First - Simon. So, well... SNAKE! ARMS! GLOVES FROM OLD CARTOONS!

I’ll explain that for a moment. First - Simon is snake monster with good programming skills. He is programming specialist. He was hacker in the past (but not type of hacker that Chara is...). His family knew about what he was doing and they didn’t approve of it. But, when kingdom needed scientists, they talked him into this function. He finally agreed and now, he making money legally, working for community instead of hacking and stealing. 

Yea, he was clever son of the... pair of another snake monsters. He actually still is clever, but he’s good pal now. Unfortunetly, he is also impetuous. Most of people know to DO NOT MAKE HIM ANGRY. That is one reason why does he usually works in quiet place, where is no other people. Second reason is that he simply likes being alone and needs silence to focus.

And yes, as snake monster he doesn’t have arms, BUT roboticts specialists made for him robotic arms. Thank to this it’s easier for him to use keyboard and mouse. And why does he have those gloves? Becuase they’re cool!... And I’m into Cuphead and it’s Show too much ._. + Yes, he usually looks pretty short compared to others in the squad, but actually he is not that short. He is long. 1,84. This pose is just comfy for him.

And here is criousty - Simon was drawn based on the longest snake in my country. Aesculapius Snake.

Next, about Lamef. As I said, a hot gal, huh? Of course, she is chemistry specialist. Yea, she’s same type of monster as Grillby, but she isn’t related to him. She doesn’t have any bad past, like Simon does. She just finished education, had qualifications and went to the work. The kingdom needed scientist, so she decided it might be good work.

Lamef is pretty calm and quiet person. She doesn’t have any problem to concentrate, even in noise. She is able to work alone and in team. She just working and giving her best. Even though having important function, after work she is just normal person. Ya know, grey person from background. 

By the way, probably everyone notice that, but if you take “F” from end of her name and put it at beginning we have “Flame”. Yea, I cannot into anagrams =w=

Numbert, biology specialist... well, SS don’t really have a leader. However, Numbert often takes this role. He is very conscientious about his work. He always giving his best and even watches over others’ work. Work is only thing that he talks about with his co-workers and he isn't laid back at all. That is why his co-workers doesn't really like him and thinks that he's boring.

The truth is that he is just very conscientious as I said. After work, he shows more dreamy and unprofessional demeanor. While in work he is cold and professional, then after it he is carefree and sympathetic.

Actually, only co-worker with he has more friendly relationship than professional is Lamef.

And I have to say one more thing... I LOVE HIS NAME! I mean, his name is from word “numb” and names like “Hubert” or “Albert”.

So.... BRATTY AND CATTY! Like ya see, they’re looks more professional, but I still wanted to left some elements from their old style.

When they heard that royal scientist function is unoccupied they decide that they could teach theirselves something about various fields of science and get this job. Why? Well... Mettaton! That is why they are robotics scientists - to could work on their beloved TV Star. After all, Undyne is queen in this AU. They didn’t have to get to much knowledge to Undyne recognized them as a nerds and hire them.

Bratty and Catty haven’t taken this work seriously at the start. But the time spend in this job let they be more responsible and less lighthearted. While in the game they acted more like teenagers, here they still have some behaviors like this, but they act more like fully mature women

And criousty - In Undermouring “Bratty and Catty” are just a nicknames. They’re actually Britney (Bratty) and Catherine (Catty). Formally they are Doctor Britney and Doctor Catherine. But everyone call them just Bratty and Catty ;P

So! That was Scientist Squad. I hope you like some of new charackters. Maybe Bratty and Catty weren’t suprise, becuase someone guessed that it was they . . . but stil! Hope ya like them and now, let’s just left a candle for poor Alphys [*]

Here’s some more random boys because it’s been a hot minute

Both slim and ace are notorious food thieves. Ace doesn’t even try to hide it because he’s an *ss but slim will be so sneaky that before you notice, that can of chips you hid behind the freezer is now empty. The only food they won’t touch is butch’s Girl Scout cookies. He’ll literally murder whoever takes some without asking. Ok not actually but don’t steal his one comfort food

Mutt rarely is ever seen without his jacket and shirt. Part of it is because he loves the fluffy material of the coat, but it’s also because his ribs are littered in tattoos. Some are symbolic, some are actually codes or maps for his secret spots underground, and there’s at least three he got when he was blackout drunk.

Lilac and Star also both have a tattoo from their days training with us alphys. It’s a aqua blue shooting star on the left side of their femur. That’s where Star hit his nickname from. Lilac picked his nickname because he thought it’d be cute to match his brother basil

Red may be a strict cat person only, but for some reason big dogs love him. He’s been chased by no less than four dogs since coming to the surface.

Sugar HATES it when people treat him like some innocent kid. Just because he’s not flaunting himself everywhere doesn’t mean he’s still not from underlust. Sugar has a way of dealing with these people though. If they get too overbearing, he’ll talk back using the raunchiest dirtiest one liners he can think of. That does the trick lol

Pluto is a dumpster when it comes to his diet. He can eat the nastiest greasiest abominations and not suffer any side effects. And he enjoys it. Pluto has an iron stomach and has never suffered from food poisoning

When he’s stressed, coffee has a tendency to click his pen over and over. He also does it when he’s feeling petty because it drives wine mad. But wine is a stubborn cuss who doesn’t like giving on to coffees pettiness, so he’ll just seethe in silence.

Okay, today is my birthday, so I'm gonna ask a birthday related question. How would the boys celebrate their girlfriends birthdays?

The short answer is: however the girls want to spend the day.

The more detailed answer is, well, I suppose US!Frisk, UF!Chara, and SS!Chara would want to spend the day alone. And I mean ALONE alone, all by themselves - but their bonefriends manage to convince the girls to spend it together with them, make it a home-date day.

UT!Frisk and UF!Frisk + US!Chara and SF!Chara probably spend the former part of the day with friends, then spend the latter half with their bonefriend. Sharing the ambassador is tough sometimes...

SF!Frisk, she's somewhere between wanting to forget all about her birthday, and wanting to be obnoxious about it. It's the former all until Sans tries to drag her to some fancy dinner that she wanted no part in. He meant well, but she HATES these sort of things because it all too much reminds her of life with her parents.

And as for UT!Chara, well, I think she wants to spend the day out and about with Papyrus, Undyne and Alphys. Although, the monster ladies eventually make an excuse about halfway through the day so the other two can be alone, then they try to tag along in secret to spy on the lovebirds in the making.

A Soul of Determination

The River Person was already waiting at the docks for them when Papyrus appeared through the tunnels, Alphys close behind him and out of breath. He simply gestured them onto the boat and pushed off the moment they were aboard, heading towards Snowdin as quick as the boat could go. Alphys had never noticed it before, but his boat was actually pushing against the current somehow. Maybe she’d always taken the ferry when it was going the other way? Or it was possible she just hadn’t noticed because normally it was going more slowly and now it was practically skipping across the surface of the water. “Tra la la,” sang the cloaked figure. “Soon enough, soon enough. The Angel will come.” She ignored it. The River Person always spouted nonsense, it never meant anything. Despite their speed, they slid smoothly to the shoreline at Snowdin without even a splash of the water. Alphys climbed from the boat as fast  as she could and followed after Papyrus as he led her down past the town and down along the roads into the Valleys of the Snowdin Cavern. It was a good twenty minutes of walking before she spotted them up ahead. Isa was on the ground, a coat stretched under them to keep them from lying on the snow, and Monster Kid was kneeling next to them looking frightened. Both Realis and Toriel were present as well. And as she hurried to Isa’s side she heard the faint pop that heralded Sans’ arrival and turned to see the skeleton accompanying King Asgore. “What happened?” Alphys asked Monster Kid since Isa didn’t seem to be conscious. But the Royal Guardsman shook his head. “I dunno! One minute they were fine and we were about to head to the next Puzzle Set, and then they were clutching their chest saying it hurt. I called Papyrus and he went to get you, but when I got off the phone they’d collapsed in the snow.” Clutching their chest? Possible something to do with their soul. Alphys dug into the pocket of her lab coat and pulled out the Soul Scanner. The SS was a handy device for checking the soul with more detail than the simple Check ability could grant. It was mostly used for medical procedures, but she’d been using it to make sure the Human Souls in the Ship weren’t in any pain while being hooked up to the ship’s functions. As Alphys scanned Isa with the device the others saw her eyes widen and her scales go pale with shock. “What is it? They are not hurt, are they?” asked Toriel. Slowly Alphys put down the scanner. “They’re not hurt...exactly. But they’re not okay... I... you see... um....” she took a breath. “They’re dying.” “NO!” The exclamation startled her and she turned to look at Monster Kid who was now being pulled away gently but firmly by Papyrus. He was protesting wildly and looking distraught. No one else said anything, but she knew that they all felt much the same. “You see,” she said. After all, they needed some kind of explanation for what she’d seen. “Their soul is flickering in and out of existence. Isa didn’t have a normal soul. When the original human soul was lost to the body, all that was left was pure Determination. Over enough time that interacted with us enough to grow into something more, to take on some soul like features and stability, to feel other things along with the Determination. I checked it myself early on to see how it worked. But Resetting takes a lot of Determination, and some of that gets used up each time.” They pondered this and then Asgore spoke. “If it gets used up, can we not simply replenish it? Inject more?” It was a good idea, but they didn’t really understand. Alphys shook her head. “It wouldn’t help. Because Isa wasn’t just a soul filled with Determination, for our purposes... they WERE the Determination. With each Reset they were using up a bit of themselves.” She glanced at Asgore. “I think we’re out of time. Maybe I can stabilize their condition with what little bit they have left, but I don’t know if they can Reset much more.” Asgore nodded, looking somewhat ill himself. But he didn’t hesitate at all as he pulled out a phone from a pocket inside his robes and pressed a speed dial button. “Gaster?” he said into it when it stopped ringing. “Finish the last of your preparations, I know you were close to completion, but we need to evacuate as soon as possible. Our time has been cut short. Yes, alright.” While the King was on the phone, Papyrus and Toriel leaned in close to Alphys. “Do you need help? Is there anything we can do?” Asked the Queen, looking anxious. Alphys thought about it for a moment, she could have Papyrus fetch her bag from the Hotland Labs. It would make things easier. But what could Toriel do to help? “Erm...” she said, trying to think. “Maybe you could light a fire, so they won’t get too cold?” It wouldn’t make much of a difference, but it would make the Queen feel a bit better to know she was doing something, even if it was small. Papyrus left the moment he knew what she wanted and Toriel was already setting a place for a fire. Sans had vanished as well, sent on some errand by Asgore. Monster Kid sat a few feet away on a stump, looking as if he were holding back a panic attack. She waved at him, indicating he could come closer, which he did. Alphys gave him a very serious look. “I need you to sit here in case they wake up. You spent nearly three hundred years at their side. They’ll be most comfortable with you there.” Despite the fear she could see in his eyes, he nodded. His eyes were looking suspiciously damp and she looked away. Crying always made her cry too. She couldn’t afford to cry right now, she had work to do.

Anyway since ppl wanna act goofy, as a nonbinary dyke CSA victim i can 100% tell you someone talking about lesbophobia in the fanbase in its OWN POST is not "taking away attention from 'bigger issues'" like are you fucking stupid? People can both be targeting the massive pedophilia in the fanbase and ALSO talk about lesbophobia in a MAJOR FANBASE-LIKED AU. We're allowed to pay attention to "small issues" of people literally erasing a character in their au just to pair a lesbian with her friend, and that's not "accidental", that is a very obvious intention that they go ss far as to get rid of alphys so undyne csn be with someone else.

who’s the werewolf and who’s the hunter

alphys is the werewolf that pretty much nobody knows about! undyne is a part of the general protectors of the area, and pretty confused about this. citizens insist they hear howling sometimes, but there aren’t any attacks or tracks or anything.

undyne patrols diligently still, meeting alphys once in a while during the day. she’s shy and nervous but she’s always been like that, so what’s it matter?

eventually alphys ‘fesses up. yeah, that’s what she is. a werewolf. you’re going to kill her now, right?

and like. no??? undyne has no reason to do that as long as she’s not going after people! absolutely not!

but she’ll hang around more to make sure everything’s okay, on full moons and otherwise.

who’s the mermaid and who’s the fisherman

alphys is…barely a fisher. she doesn’t really fish, she just takes a rod and goes to hang out in a secluded part of the beach and pretends to, b/c then people don’t bother her. she doesn’t even have bait. sometimes she doesn’t even pretend, she just sits down and reads manga

undyne pops up and asks her what the hell she’s doing, scaring her off in the process, which was not her intention, actually! but she left her book, and undyne checks it out a little. there are pictures of kind of neat people with hair like hers.

alphys comes back later to retrieve her stuff, she gets pulled into a convo with the scary mermaid, and then she ends up teaching her about a whole bunch of stuff out of the water. and agrees to come back later to show undyne more stuff. what has she gotten herself into oh god

who’s the witch and who’s the familiar

alphys is the witch! a witch who sometimes gets over her head trying complicated magic things and trying to help people who come to her. that got overwhelming fast, so she moved away--all the way to a swamp, where spooky  stereotypical witches live. she’ll help people who are stubborn enough to go through there!

undyne is the familiar that guards her home. and...who helps alphys out going through the swamp b/c whoops, turns out it’s kind of scary to her too. not that undyne minds! they talk a lot to keep her mind off it, and gets to fight rough swamp beasts to keep her love safe! hell yeah!!!

who’s the barista and who’s the coffee addict

undyne is the barista, alphys is the addict who comes in at opening, bleary and basically nonsensical. 

pre-coffee alphys is the rare time when her anxiety is smothered by tired, so she’s not even self-conscious about it anymore--not with undyne, anyway. undyne knows her order by heart, and they end up chatting about mutual interests, though undyne doesn’t know much about anime or science, and alphys doesn’t know a lot about real mixed martial arts or laws. it’s still a highlight of both their days~

who’s the professor and who’s the TA

alphys is the professor, undyne is the TA who gets way too enthusiastic. 

alphys was afraid of her until she saw how much some of her students were actually helped by undyne’s wild teaching methods. not everyone’s receptive to the same things!

who’s the knight and who’s the prince(ss)

undyne is the knight, of course! alphys is the princess who lives in a tower but...doesn’t want to come down???

they end up having shouted conversations from the tower to the ground for a few days until alphys lets her in.

it is, admittedly, a nice tower. and alphys really doesn’t want to go out much. the tower ends up being undyne’s home base in the area between quests...

...and, after a few years, very simply her home.

who’s the teacher and who’s the single parent

undyne is the BADASS GYM TEACHER that kids either super love or super hate, and alphys has a kid who loves her. being a nerd raising a borderline jock isn’t where she saw her life going.

turns out undyne and alphys live near each other! and alphys’ kid often goes to greet her when they see her jogging (which is a lot). 

this happens enough that ultra-shy alphys finds herself going out to greet her even when her kid’s away or busy. it’s nice. it’s more than nice.

who’s the writer and who’s the editor

alphys writes fanfic! undyne is a beta for her fanfic! but...only the ones with big epic battles. undyne does not do reading over romance well at all.

she still does sometimes, but that’s just so alphys can get more hints on what she might want as gifts and date ideas for in the future.

(*tbh, asgore is usually the one who actually betas the romances.)

Do you have any links to the more canon stuff about Storyshift? I want to know more about the AU but i'm not sure what to trust.

The best way to learn about Storyshift is to read the comic. I should note, however, that this comic IS preboot, and a new rebooted version will be replacing it, but for the time being, this is the only official content for the AU. I’m actually on the team as an artist and musician for the reboot. All updates can be found on the AU’s official blog, @ut-storyshift​.EDIT: Ohey, theres’ an FAQ now! Go read that.That being said, there are some important things to note about the Storyshift AU that a lot of people don’t get. I’ll just go over a few quick points since, well, this is the Inverted Fate blog, not the Storyshift blog, but here are a few things I’ve noticed over time. Note that I’ll mostly be using the preboot as examples because reboot is still under wraps.1. Mettaton is not a human. This is a very common fanon spread by art of a Mettaton EX-like human in a black and pink shirt, but in truth, he’s a ghost monster. This is the one view of him shown in the comic, and while it’s partly obscured…

It’s still fairly clear that he was a floaty ghost blob. Also, neither he nor Napstablook wore striped shirts, as they were not children. In fact, they were not adopted by the skeletons at all.2. It is not a personality swap.This is also super common in fanart/fancomics, but Storyshift was always intended to keep the original character personalities in mind. This is true of the reboot as well.Also, Asriel did not want to capture humans in the preboot and Chara wasn’t lazy. Asriel’s whole thing was over the top larping. He did wanna join the guard to be like his mom, but it was at least shown that he hadn’t considered what this’d mean for Chara- that he’d have to leave his family behind, most likely, etc. SS Chara was also shown to be very emotionally invested in the situation as opposed to having Sans’ apathy. Papyrus didn’t begrudge Sans and left to the Ruins for peaceful reasons (to spread the dust of Napstablook and Mettacrit), and many other changes that are explained in the source material. While some of this is likely subject to change, Storyshift will continue to retain personalities rather than swap them.

3. Nobody changes roles besides Papyrus, Sans, Chara, Asriel, Napstablook, Mettaton, Alphys, Undyne, Asgore, and Toriel. There are no smaller swaps like Muffet and Grillby, etc, but there are still changes with minor characters, such as the amalgamates roaming free (Asgore released them). Also, Reaper Bird is a bit more stable and goes by Corinthian.

4. The Undyne Ultra fanbattle is not canon, and neither are any pieces of art where Undyne is basically a Mettaton EX headswap.Preboot Undyne was a cyborg, with an alternate form that looked like Sailor Moon. Reboot Undyne is top secret, but in both cases, she was not a full robot. This is because Storyshift does not swap species in any capacity.5. Papyrus is not a woman, nor a queen, nor romantically involved with Sans. He was the prince.Self-explanatory, really. :P And in general, the only content that is canon to the AU is content published on the official blog and the official soundcloud. Coincidentally, I’d suggest directing future inquiries to the official blog so that Volt can answer stuff directly!Anyway, apologies for the rambly post unrelated to this AU. I just have a lot of strong feelings on what’s happened to Storyshift in the fandom. u_u
