The train from Wyndon to Spikemuth was always a quiet ride for Piers; League-related meetings with the former Champion-turned-Chairman were far less painful than they had been back when Rose was in power, but due to Leon's inexperience, they tended to go on far longer than necessary. But that was fine. The man was floundering, and he couldn't blame the guy one bit for struggling.

But that did mean that it was always a mad dash for the station.

Sometimes he made it, sometimes he didn't. Today, he'd made it and had found himself in the last car.

It was mostly empty save for a couple elderly folks who were eyeing him as if he were a common thug what with his leather jacket and piercings, a few university students who were noisily chatting, and a younger looking woman. They were all spaced out enough that it was impossible to have more than a couple seats between him and another person, so it was a choice.

In the end, he chose to sit near the young woman. He still kept a seat between them out of politeness, but she was the only one Piers settled into a seat at the back of the car, slouching in his seat with a heavy, drawn out sigh. "Sorry. If this seat's taken, I'll move elsewhere." He muttered in an exhausted effort to be polite.

Hopefully the woman wasn't a fan. He didn't really have it in him to be friendly. Wordlessly, he pulled his Rotom out from his jacket pocket, slouching in his seat as he sent Marnie a text letting her know he was on his way home, and asking if she wanted him to grab anything from the 24 hour store near their apartment building.

Dallon and Breezy have been working on an actual legal version of release that makes sure royalties go to EVERYONE involved in making the album, because he made Violent Things as a solo act under the Brobecks name and HNW was made with the old full band before they broke up.

About to enter his elderly years, turning 8 or 9 this year (I forgot if he's 2015 or 2016 lol) but he's been with me since he was 3 months old. And he's precious and gentle. Gesar is not a big fan of clothes, but he tolerates it for the sake of warmth. He also loves to sleep next to me as a precious little heater.

hey!!! I love your signal hill, I was wondering about what the map looks like/what are the areas and where they are, related to each other? We've seen the trailer park and the suburbs, and the duplexes, are there others? Sorry lol I'm invested and curious

omg dont apologize i love questions like this!! im a huge nerd abt hood planning so im always happy to talk abt it :D

i used river's bend for signal hill's terrain, i wanted a map that wasn't too big but still had room for expansion/rebuilding later and this one was perfect

so signal hill is broken up into 3 main sections (downtown, the suburbs, and the trailer park), but there are also some zones on the outskirts that have some story behind them too. i tried to keep things structured based on class, kind of like how a real town would be laid out, but i think i still need to work on really defining the areas.

first up, at the eastern entrance of town is this long stretch of road called "signal street". the science lab is the first thing you see when you enter the town from this side. other than the lab, the armstrong family lives here, and there are a few businesses, notably a bowling alley and a restaurant. at the very end of the road, near the entrance to the main town section, there's the town cemetery, fittingly right next door to the local goth bar, and some apartment buildings. this is where aj, mikey, and markus lived, but i'm in round 5 rn so they've since moved around

up from where the science lab is, we've got paradise park, the local trailer park, and the surrounding residential area. this is where the dunn sisters and erik started out living. other notable spots being the dive bar, a diner, a little convenience store, a campground (hood deco), a playground, and an old abandoned shack that the ✨rowdy youths✨ hang out at.

leaving the eastern area of town we've got the town center. lots of hood deco over here but also some functional spots (library, gym, restaurants, nightclub, clothing store, arcade, grocery store, parks, etc). down by the river there's also a retirement community that i haven't had the chance to use yet

and finally, north from the city center are the suburbs. i'm not super happy with how the houses are laid out and they're all random ones i downloaded cuz i just wanted to fill the area lol but i'm sure i'll end up developing this zone as i play more. this is where the lee family, daniel and arhan, and the kirk family live. the second screenshot gives you a decent view of pretty much the whole town.

im very happy with how the hood is turning out :] it's always a wip though, but generally this is how it's probably gonna be structured for as long as i play.

Hello here are some fun Castti headcanons I think about a lot :]

She has eczema on skin that was exposed to the purple rain, but the skin discoloration is purple instead of red.

She continues to have memory issues for basically the rest of her life, but it gets milder. Eg, she might forget the names of the other party members or have no clue where they are.

There's some emotional regulation issues as a result of the purple rain, also made her a bit more blunt.

Anyway. More miscellaneous thoughts :] :]

I really really love her dynamic with Ochette it is the most important thing ever. I think cause of the whole apothecary thing, Castti really really loves taking care of people. When she wakes up in Canalbrine without any memories, I think she'd almost be disappointed when Malaya says she doesn't need any help because she's got nothing to occupy her time with if she can't help other people. Then she meets Ochette and it's perfect cause Ochette needs a lot of help navigating human society.

I think when she's not helping people, Castti is kinda just standing there waiting for something to happen so Ochette tries to find stuff Castti would like so she isn't just standing there. She teaches Castti to identify plants so whenever there's nothing going on, Castti will just go around figuring out what plants are in the area so she can make more medicine :]

I am also so normal about Castti and Osvald's potential dynamic. I think they should've had a crossed paths together. Oguh man. I'm normal about them I swear

Honestly I love your hcs of how the purple rain affected her, with both the physical and emotional trauma of that event combined it'd make sm more sense for it to have more long-term effects on Castti than was shown or implied in canon, and all of these are rly good applications of that! I like to imagine the other travelers would be very patient with her memory and emotional regulation issues (or at least try to be), at first just bcus she's a kind and helpful person to the team, then bcus they grow to like her as a person and friend, and then especially so when they come to understand its cause. Also I think it'd be cool if Castti invented or improved medicated lotion for excema due to her own personal and unique experiences with it, she'd certainly have the medicinal expertise (and I bet Partitio would help spread the word of it and its uses for others it could benefit!)

Ahhh Castti just not knowing what to do when nobody's around for her to help is not only so in character but also pretty relatable to me lol, I can absolutely see that! I love the idea that Ochette would help her out by teaching her how to identify plants too, it's such a sweet Ochette thing to do and would totally be helpful for Castti's work too!

I also love the dynamic between Ochette and Castti, I think it's rly cute and sweet with potential for being funny too!! I regularly think about how it was Ochette who pretty much saved Castti from falling prey to Vide (ik it's supposed to be a Beastling Thing and not an Ochette Thing but I hate how the beastlings are handled and I make my own canon with them specifically. it is an Ochette Thing in my heart <3 )

Also SO TRUE the dynamic between Castti and Osvald is so underexplored and it has sm potential!! I saw you sent an ask about that specifically as well and I'm gonna get right too that, I'm super excited to read it! I adore exploring the relationships between the travelers, the Banters give you a taste but I'm obsessed with character relations of all sorts so it's never enough for me lol

You have to know that I LOVE talking math and I am used to people stopping listening after three words so - don't worry if this isn't anything for you after all but also please ask any and all questions <3

Without further ado: Addition and multiplication explained structurally as I understand them in as simple terms as possible

Do you know what a function is? - starting with the hardest part right off the bat but that's math for you 😅 So a function is like a recipe of what you do to things in one pot, named 'set' to return things from another set (so another pot). The sets could be anything, meaning there could be anything in either pot, even other pots. The things inside the set are called 'elements'. So a function takes an element from the first set and then returns an element from the other. You might know functions as like f(x) =x^2 or something but they can look very diverse.

Addition and multiplication are such functions that follow certain rules. We call them 'operations'. (I think we do that because they take elements from the same (not really but kinda) set that they return elements from but I might be mistaken. Never been good with remembering names.) So if we perform these operations on a set X, they will take elements from the set X×X and return an element from X. What does that mean? Well, in easy words it means they are functions that independently choose two (always 2!) elements from X and return one element from X as their sum/product.

And then the following rules apply for both addition and multiplication: (I am going to use the symbol * for either operation now)

They are associative, that is a*(b*c) =(a*b) *c (this literally means that within pure addition/multiplication the order of performing the operation is completely random - well as long as we don't change the order of the letters themselves. So by this rule alone, we can't start with the operation a*c because there is a 'b' in between but the choice between starting with ab vs b*c is free)

There is a neutral element. That is, there exists an element e in X such that e*a=a*e=a for all a in X. For addition this is the 0. No matter whether I add 0 from the left or the right to any number, I still get that same number. For multiplication this is the 1.)

There is an inverse. That is, for any element a in X there exists an inverse element b such that a*b=b*a=e, meaning if we perform the operation on a and B we get the neutral element. For addition, this is b=-a because a+(-a) =0 and for multiplication this is b=1/a because a1/a=1 (note the different neutral elements here). (also note that for multiplication in the real numbers we have to exclude the 0 here as it is the only number without an multiplicative inverse)

The operation is commutative, that means a*b=b*a. And THIS is the rule that basically tells us it is COMPLETELY random in which order we perform the operation AS LONG AS we have pure addition or pure multiplication.

So what do we have until now:

There is no subtraction or division. That's a lie they tell you in school. Well, I mean, there is but those operations are covered in case 3 by the inverse. Like, really, structurally division and subtraction ARE NO DEFINED OPERATIONS. They are simply what we call when one of the elements we pick is the inverse of an element that would feel more 'natural' to pick. (hah, pun intended because the ones that feel natural to pick tend to be from the natural numbers) What do I mean by that? So if I asked you to give me an example for an addition, you would probably come up with something like 3 + 1 or 8+5. You would most probably not pick 1 + (-9), even though -9 is a real number, even an integer and something we should learn in school how to handle. At least if we get a good teacher. But 1 + - 9 is an addition on the reals! Same for the multiplication (1/6)*2, also a rather simple multiplication on the reals. (You may have noticed that I used the 'inverse' in the second place in the first case and the first place in the second case so obviously that is random, too. I could also do (-1)+(-3), bam : addition!) (btw I am putting inverse in '' on purpose here, because the inverse of the inverse is the original element again. So while we can say -3 is the inverse of 3 it is as true that 3 is the inverse of -3. Like subtracting 2 by - 3 would be calculating 2 +3, you know? Confusing? Yeah, that's why we like to ignore the existence of subtraction/division :))

With pure addition or multiplication - read with addition/subtraction OR multiplication/division there is NO SET ORDER TO THE OPERATIONS WHATSOEVER. This is because of point 1 and 4: point 1 says that for any expression with only one operation performed several times I can start with whichever one and continue until all have been performed. Left to right, right to left, from the middle outwards, jumping around - does not make any different. Point 4 says that in addition, I can randomly exchange the order of elements in addition, so really I can solve the expression HOWEVER I WANT (within the rules, of course, but the order is entirely random). Like that's what these rules are FOR.

Okay, but what if we mix addition and multiplication now? Then we get one (1!) extra rule:

5. For any elements a, b, c in X we have: (here now * is only multiplication and + is addition) a*(b+c) = a*b + a*c (distributive law)

So this is the only thing that tells us how to handle a mixture of addition and multiplication. That's why we have the 'multiplication before addition' rule - there just is no structure for doing it the other way round! You know?

Like, with the distributive law we know what to do when multiplying something with a sum. But there is no rule for what to do when adding to a product. So we first have to solve the product to get an element in the set of real numbers, because for that we know how to perform the operation. That's where the hierarchy comes from (I believe).

Funfact: in Germany this (multiplication before addition) is the only rule taught in school (or at least it was when I went to school in Germany). They don't have pemdas or whatever but 'Punkt vor Strich' which directly translates to 'Point before stroke' bc multiplication is one little point and division two little points. And addition is a Swiss cross and subtraction is a horizontal line. I have to admit it messed me up a little seeing as I very quickly used fractions / is also a stroke rather than a point.

And then the last casual and very obvious rule is 'brackets help us understand things so they are stronger than anything else'.

In conclusion:

there is no hierarchy between multiplication/division and addition/subtraction respectively because they are literally the same thing

order within the same kind of operation is completely arbitrary

you can always only perform an operation on two elements of your set OR perform the distributive law and this leads to the 'point before stroke' rule

Brackets are your friends and thus you prioritise them <3

If you want to look this up in more mathematical terms/clean definitions, then I have given you the rules for a 'field' and 'abelian groups' here. Also you might want to familiarise yourself with functions if you have trouble understanding this. I feel like getting what a function really is is THE entry step into understanding math. (but this is a personal opinion and I bet there are mathematicians who would fight me over that)

Because these are actually more general algebraic constructs and not just what happens in the reals when we add/multiply. They ARE the most simple examples of what you encounter in algebra imo but that might be because we are used to dealing with the reals/rational number from child age. Anyway, there are loads of different objects that work differently but with similar rules. Vector spaces and rings are lovely for example, if you want to have a look there. Or modules or algebras if you'd like it to be a little more difficult ;)
