The album cover was designed by Haesun Lee.
j-hope and J. Cole
The song features J. Cole, the artist behind “Born Sinner”, the song that inspired “Born Singer”. There’s another hommage to him through the Billboard cover featuring him in the music shop in the WINGS Short Film #4 FIRST LOVE (it’s only visible in BEGIN and LIE though).
Tumblr media
He’s a big influence for j-hope. Hobi referenced him on several occasions like in “힙합성애자 (Hip Hop Lover)“:
Hope hope world, Before I made my world Cole world From when he would brighten up my friday night I get inspired and write it down, my song
Cole World is J. Cole first studio album. And it’s the inspiration behind the title of j-hope’s first mixtape, Hope World.
The two of them met during the 2022 Lollapalooza Festival, where j-hope performed after releasing Jack In The Box.
Based on an Instagram story posted by the director Lumpens, it was noticed the beginning of the MV must be a nod to the MV for J. Cole’s “Simba” (src). The two videos were also shot in the same area with “Simba” basically ending where “On the street” begins:
Tumblr media
Details
You can spot a memorial at the beginning while the camera pans from one direction to the other. Based on the episode, it's a nod to a situation in the street where people "say goodbye because of unavoidable situations".
Tumblr media
You only see them in the Episode but they are several custom made posters in the subway.
When j-hope exits the subway, you can see a poster (cr.) from a campaign for Adopt Us Kids, promoting adoption from foster care. It’s similar to the poster on this page but with a different citation: “We thought our Family was complete - we’re so happy to have been wrong”.
Tumblr media
He also walks next to a billboard advertising Raye’s My 21st Century Blues, an album released the same day as “on the street”. She tweeted about it.
Tumblr media
During the scenes on the rooftop, there a billboard in the background with “It’s my call” written on it. On the bottom left, a car similar to the on in “Chicken Noodle Soup” MV, with a chicken’s head on the rooftop can be seen. The sentence isn’t in either songs’ lyrics but there is a “Bring it back to this place called home (baby)” in “Chicken Noodle Soup”. Fans have also interpreted it as j-hope’s decision to do his military enlistment. In the Episode, you can see it’s actually an ad for Two Trees Management, offering offices in Dumbo.
As for the other billboard, that’s on the far left, it’s an ad for Ulla Johnson.
Tumblr media
Filming locations
The scenes featuring J. Cole were filmed on the rooftop of a building in New York, here, next to the Manhattan bridge.
The photos and the beginning of the MV were shot in Cortland Alley.
Tumblr media
Then they moved to the closed platform of Bowery subway station.
Tumblr media
And j-hope left from this exit.
Tumblr media
Next, we’re back to the South of Lower Manhattan, in Walker street this time.

Summary of this story from National Geographic:
At 2,200 miles, the Great Plains Trail takes adventurers across the prairies of North America as it winds from Texas’ Guadalupe Mountains National Park (pictured above) up to Canada’s Grassland National Park. Along the way, the trail cuts across unmapped canyons and springs, forested ridges, vast desert, and abandoned outposts and ghost towns. “It’s not cornfields,” explains Luke “Strider” Jordan, the only person known to have thru-hiked the trail. Indeed, it’s just barely a trail at all. In many areas, the route represents ambitions more than paths, as it links long-standing trails and existing roadways. Hikers must study maps and have reliable GPS. “It takes a lot of planning. If you don’t prepare, you can expect to get lost,” says Jordan. To make it more accessible, the Great Plains Trail Alliance is focusing on a 350-mile Pilot Trail, winding from South Dakota’s Bear Butte State Park to Nebraska’s Scotts Bluff National Monument. For segment hikers, this trail contains wild (as well as tame) surprises. “Cattle is definitely a thing,” Jordan tells writer Jacqueline Kehoe about the bossy bovines. Coyotes, prairie dogs, bighorn sheep, elk, pronghorn antelope, and even American bison can make an appearance.
There is a web of established long-distance regional trails in the U.S., but this epic trail marks a first for the Great Plains, bringing opportunity to a region often overlooked by outdoor enthusiasts. The path presents an alternative to trails suffering from overuse and mismanagement, as Nicholas Kristof reported for us. And it will “introduce hikers—and their wallets—to different communities and ecosystems,” says Kehoe. “Could the Great Plains Trail become America’s next great long-distance trail?” our writer asks, pointing to highlights including the 9,000-foot summit in the Guadalupe national park, a 3,000-foot trek up above the Texas desert that opens to views of the world’s most extensive Permian fossil reef. “For now,” she says, “the trail remains a promise of both adventure and future conservation.”

All That I Know
## I'm really quite stupid. I've been told that I'm a smart kid but as far as I'm concerned a dumb guy who makes rash decisions driven by spite and what's in front of me more than thinking about the long term. I say this upfront not to beat on myself but to say, this is not written from the perspective of a know-it-all educating the public. I'm just a dumb guy scared of the world I live in. I think a lot of us are just scared, dumb guys. And I'm just trying to take stock of all that I know to take a second to think. ## [I know the police were created to serve the wealthy.](https://plsonline.eku.edu/insidelook/history-policing-united-states-part-1) Yeah I dunno man, all that "protect and serve" stuff seems like nice PR to me. The earliest organization that resembles modern policing in America were the slave watches, first formerly organized in South Carolina in 1704. And like it sounds, their express purpose was to round up escaped slaves and terrorize slaves to scare them into conformity. So the subjugation of black populations is built into the foundation of the police force in America. But of course it's not just about black people. It could've been anything valuable to the wealthy class that held power in the South. It's just that black slaves happened to be the most valuable property of the upper class. Jump forward a century and police forces are being used to silence labor organizers like during the [Haymarket Riots](https://www.illinoislaborhistory.org/the-haymarket-affair) in 1886. A bomb was thrown at police trying to subdue the protests, leaving seven policemen and four workers dead by the end. But what is often left out in the retelling of the Haymarket Riots is that the reason workers had organized for protests on that was because a couple days ago a peaceful march in support of the eight hour workweek (which was already the law of the land but was blatantly unenforced) was silenced by the Chicago Police who opened fired and killed several protesters. And this keeps happening in history. 1934, a union strike of dockworkers is attacked by San Francisco police and the National Guard in what becomes known as [Bloody Thursday](https://www.upte.org/laborhistory/bloodythur.html). 1979, San Francisco police retaliate at protests and riots sparked by anger when Harvey Milk's (the first openly gay American mayor) murderer, Dan White, is found guilty of voluntary manslaughter instead, by clubbing protesters and deliberately destroying the legendary gay bar Elephant Walk in what becomes known as the [White Nights](https://www.sfchronicle.com/chronicle_vault/article/SF-s-White-Night-riots-40th-anniversary-13865164.php). Twice, [once in 1874](https://www.nytimes.com/1988/08/27/opinion/l-police-and-protesters-have-clashed-before-in-tompkins-square-276588.html) and [again in 1988](http://projects.nyujournalism.org/streetsofnewyork-northtompkins/2017/04/18/tompkins-square-park-riot-1988/), cries for the city to do something about the employed and the homeless were met with clubbings and beatdowns. In a chilling flash to the present, many officers concealed their badge numbers with tape. ## I know the police force was engineered to retain power and protect it. As protests form around the country- even around the world, it becomes clear that many would be peaceful demonstrations have been [escalated by the police](https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/05/george-floyd-protests-police-violence.html).

I don't know how you look at police brutality being documented online and think any of this brutality is necessary. People being run over by police cars, reporters being arrested and brutalized by cops.

In a shocking big dick move, the SBA doxxed the daughter of NY mayor Bill de Blasio after he made the most cowardly "both sides" statement about the NYPD car running into protestors pictured above. I guess even that wasn't enough for the unions
Tumblr media
Oh I guess that brings me to the unions. Police unions are the most powerful labor organizations in the country. Congratulations, except you're helping cops kill us by protecting them as much as possible. Unions help bad cops get back on the job. They are on the frontlines of obscuring the misdeeds of cops from the public eye as much as possible, leading to "gypsy cops" that can shuffle around from department to department because their misconduct gets erased. Remember how mad people were about how long it took Derek Chauvin to be arrested and questioned? Oftentimes delays between police misconduct and questioning is built right into labor contracts, so that offending officers can take a few days to "get their story straight", a privilege rarely given to civilians and fought for by unions. Protect and serve the public? Fuck you, got mine. Police unions are engineered to protect cops-bad or good from any retribution and they will fight to the teeth for their survival. And because so...
I know police reforms have so far done little.
Often in the aftermath of police violence the topic of "police reforms" is brought up and difficulties encountered with having reforms enacted, but you don't hear often discussions of whether or not the reforms that have managed to pass have worked. Like bodycams. There was a lot of talk about bodycams after the shooting of Michael Brown with advocates claiming that wide use would dissuade officers from using excessive force or that at the very least they'd be caught on camera and would result in swifter justice. But six years later results are a wash. A study focusing on the Orlando PD found that officers that wore body cams were 53% less likely to use force and have 65% less civilian complaints levied at them. Meanwhile a study in Washington DC resulted in little difference in the use of force between those who wore body cams and those who didn't. As for whether bodycams brought an increase in justice, they don't seem to have brought any more convictions than before bodycams were in wide use. What about procedural reform? After the killings of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, the Obama Administration laid out a large list of recommended reforms to proceedings like embracing "a guardian mindset to build public trust and legitimacy", "initiating positive nonenforcement activities to engage communities that typically have high rates of investigative and enforcement involvement with government agencies", and having "comprehensive policies on the use of force that include training, investigations, prosecutions, data collection, and information sharing." The reforms were enacted in Minneapolis and after almost $5 million they clearly didn't work. None of these reforms solved the underlying foundation of the police force that encourages officers to retain power and serve the upper class before the public.
I know people have been suffering for too long.
Let's count the numbers. It's been an year since federal charges were dropped for the police officer that killed Eric Garner. Six years since Eric Garner died from a chokehold while unarmed, gasping "I can't breathe." It's been four years since Philando Castile was shot and killed in his car by an officer who allegedly thought Castile was reaching for a gun. There was no gun. Three years since the officer that killed him was acquited. There was a dash cam. It didn't matter. Also six years ago, Tamir Rice was twelve years old when he was shot to death by a police officer that thought he was reaching for a gun. It was an airsoft. The officer was not charged. Also six years ago, Michael Brown was eighteen years old when he was shot twelve times by a police officer. The police officer that killed Michael Brown was not charged. Seven years ago, the Black Lives Matter movement was founded following the acquittal of the watchman that killed Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was seventeen. There is no national database of police violence. But one database has recorded at least 1000 deaths a year by the hands of police since its inception in 2013. In 2015, almost 20% of those killed were unarmed. 2018 was the most violent year by 1143. Black people made up 24% of those killings despite comprising 13% of the population. 52 years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The FBI considered him a radical and closely surveiled him as a national threat.

contemplatingchicken mentioned you on a post “Ask me my "TOP 5/TOP 10" anything!”
@kawuli : TOP FIVE GRAINS, TOP FIVE SLIGHTLY UNUSUAL BOOKS, TOP FIVE DESSERTS, TOP FIVE BIZARRE TRAVEL STORIES
Top 5 grains:
(in no particular order)
Wheat:
excellent staple carbohydrate, relatively high in protein, -10 points for that protein being Actual Poison for some people. Can be made into SO MANY TASTY THINGS: bread, pasta, tortillas, various kinds of dough-with-stuff-in, couscous, etc. Drought-tolerant, lots of different varieties suited for a wide range of climates, one of the First Ever Crop Plants
Quinoa - LOOK I KNOW there were a couple articles a few years ago about how rich food snobs are RUINING EVERYTHING BECAUSE QUINOA IS EXPENSIVE NOW but actually it’s much more complicated than that, because having a high-value marketable crop is the only way farmers have ever been able to make a decent living! Evidence suggests it’s probably a net good thing. I will argue this point only if people bring references.
Also, it’s good for you and it’s tasty and the plant is really pretty (src)
Tumblr media
Maize (aka Corn aka Zea mays):
Look, ancient Mexican crop breeders were fucking geniuses, I read recently that indigenous people in the Mississippi river basin were starting to domesticate certain grains, but basically maize showed up while they were still fucking around with “how do we get erect knotweed to quit shattering at maturity” and they very logically went “fuck it, this maize stuff is already domesticated and super efficient, we’ll just use that.”
Similar processes have happened everywhere maize is introduced, which is why it’s a staple grain in East Africa despite being unknown there 500 years ago.
This is also why Zea mays is my Problematic Fave: it keeps shoving out other crops by being very efficient, but then it’s not particularly nutritious, especially if you don’t also import the indigenous American (North and South) food preparation methods that unlock the hidden amino acids. Not quite as bad as the British, as colonizers go, but still: problematic.
Fonio
Tumblr media
Objectively, it’s kind of a terrible grain, because it’s low yielding, has seeds that look like grains of sand, is a bitch to thresh by hand (and afaik there aren’t threshers for it because see: tiny ass sand-grain seeds), and really is only mostly domesticated. Also I lost count of how many times I went to park a motorbike on some grass only to have someone tell me “no, that’s fonio.” \
But! It is super drought tolerant, very nutritious (so I hear), and is super tasty, especially when you cook it by putting a bunch of it inside a sheep, closing the sheep up, and then slow-roasting the whole thing. Granted, literal sand would probably be good cooked that way, but fonio is especially tasty. Also now if it becomes the next “superfood” I have evidence that I Liked It Before It Was Cool.
Rice
It’s like half the world’s staple carbohydrate, so it kind of has to go here. You can grow it in a wacky polyculture system with fish and ducks, which is neat. Most varieties are easy to thresh, there’s not a lot of post-harvest processing required, and it gets pretty good yields for anything that’s not maize. It’s an excellent substrate for putting sauce on and it cooks quickly. I can eat it daily and not get sick of it.
NOTE I JUST THOUGHT OF: I am only considering grains-as-in-grasses (and Quinoa, which is a pseudograin, but WHATEVER). Grain legumes are a different thing.
(aaaaand that’s long enough for one post I think)

Scotland Tour - Day 3
The one where we cross the Queensferry Crossing
10 June 2018 - We start our journey around Scotland by leaving Edinburgh and heading north along the free motorway that will take us straight to Inverness, the most important city in the Highlands. First, however, we stop at South Queensfery from whose port we admire and photograph the many bridges (one rail, one road and one pedestrian) wrapped in the morning mist. We drive back to the town of Saint Andrews, which overlooks the North Sea and is home to the ancient university and an important centre for golf enthusiasts. The time to make a turn in the center, two steps near the sea and after having lunch we are departed to the time of the third stage of the day: Cluny House to Aberfeldy, a sort of park where, beyond to some redwood, there are numerous squirrels that, thanks to of the feeders strategically placed along the path, do not miss to testify their nice presence. Around 9 p.m. we arrived in Inverness, where we dined quickly. After dinner we have gone to our lodging, a beautiful Pod that because of an obvious underestimation of the distances, we have booked to around 2 hours from Inverness, and where we have arrived shortly after the sunset. Sunset in Scotland is about 11pm.

A red-billed oxpecker (Buphagus erythrorhynchus) atop a black rhino in Masai Mara National Park, Kenya. These birds feed on ticks, and their alarm calls help the rhinos avoid humans. PHOTOGRAPH BY OTTO PLANTEMA, BUITEN BEELD, MINDEN PICTURES.
Excerpt from this story from National Geographic:
IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA, red-billed oxpeckers feed on the parasites of rhinos and more than 20 other species of mammal. Now, new research suggests the birds may also serve as sentinels that help rhinos avoid humans—and potentially poachers.
Though black rhinos have a good sense of smell and good hearing, they have notoriously bad vision. If you know where one is and stay downwind of it, you can often get quite close to the animal, says Roan Plotz, now a researcher at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia.
While Plotz was completing his doctoral thesis on black rhinos in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, in eastern South Africa, he began contemplating how black rhinos might avoid humans. In recent years, poachers have decimated the ranks of the black rhino, which in adulthood can weigh a ton and a half. Today, the critically endangered species’ population is a little over 5,000, a tenfold decline since the 1970s.
While studying black rhinos, Plotz found that those close enough for him to observe generally didn't have any oxpeckers on their backs. The birds have good vision and make hissing alarm calls when certain threatening animals—such as humans—approach. Is it possible, he wondered, that oxpeckers were alerting the rhinos to his presence? Such a phenomenon is hinted at in the oxpecker's Swahili name, Askari wa kifaru—which translates to the “rhino’s guard.”
When Plotz set up an experiment to test his hypothesis, it proved true: Rhinos accompanied by the birds were more likely to detect humans, and from further away, compared to animals without oxpeckers.

Fall foliage update 1-7 October 2012
This week’s update includes:
Peak fall foliage in northern New Hampshire
Where to go for Columbus Day weekend
Upcoming fall foliage events
Peak fall foliage, is it worth the hype?
Peak fall foliage arrives in northern New Hampshire
After hurricane Irene helped to ruin the 2011 fall foliage season, everybody was ready to see real peak fall foliage. So far Mother Nature has been out doing herself with an incredible display of fall colors across northern New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.
If we can get a few more sunny days and cool nights like we’ve been getting the rest of October is bound to be outstanding. On Monday and Tuesday I was up as far North as Groveton New Hampshire crossing back and forth on routes 2, 110, 116, 115a and a bunch of smaller roads that I’m just not sure what their names were.
The problem is it just didn’t matter everywhere I turned I was seeing hillsides covered in peak fall foliage and I was as happy as a pig in slop (maybe a bit happier). Click on one of the images below and it should start up a slide show that you can enjoy.

What to expect for Columbus Day weekend?
Vermont:  I would expect that much of the Northeast kingdom down to almost Woodstock Vermont will be either at high color or at full peak color. I think they’ll be good color in the northwest corner of Vermont down to Burlington and there will be pockets of peak on the Western side of Vermont.
New Hampshire:  as you can see in the pictures above Peak has arrived and I would say if you were to explore Franconia notch and up through the northern White Mountains on the routes that I mentioned up above, you should find good to peak color. If you’re wondering about missing peak color read about the hype of peak down below.
Maine:  I think Western Maine around Rangeley Lake Southwest to Sebago Lake and down towards the coastline and the Freiburg fair should all be at high color if not better. I had a report last week that Acadia national Park was at high color and peak can’t be far behind, which is very early.
Massachusetts:  I took a drive on Saturday over the Mohawk trail as you can read in a previous article the swamp Maples were at peak color along the road (route 2). So I was finding good color (30 to 50%) in Massachusetts already.
Upcoming fall foliage events
The Topsfield Fair
The NEK fall festival
King Richards Faire
The Fryeburg Fair
The above Fairs are in running through the weekend. So if you are in the area of them, you can enjoy rides, 4-H events and music to your heart’s desire. Also Apple picking at orchards and more!!!
 Try these events
Cranberry Harvest Festival Oct 6-7 rain or shine.
Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular– Event Dates:  Thursday, October 4 – Saturday, November 3 Event Hours:  6 – 11 pm, with the last admission at 10 pm. NEW extended hours on Saturdays and Sunday, October 7:  6pm-midnight, last admission at 11 pm
5th Annual Giant Pumpkin Regatta & Festival (Sunday, October 7, 2012 Burlington Waterfront: 10-3pm Races begin at noon!)
This is just a sampling, and I’ll be posting more as I find them…
Peak fall foliage, is it worth the hype?
If you’re a hard-core leaf peeper, then nothing will satisfy you short of 100% peak fall foliage. But for everybody else out there, is peak worth it?
Over the past week I was finding color in the 30 to 50% range and I counted this as being very satisfying. I do count myself as a hard-core leaf peeper but I also keep in mind when I’m reporting percentages to my readers that many people are happy seeing a single maple tree dressed in scarlet to the nines.
I’ve had several years where I didn’t catch it just right and maybe I was a little before or a little after peak fall foliage. (sometimes I wasn’t even close) 🙂
What I have to remind myself, is that this chase for peak fall foliage is a gift. If we found peak foliage every single time we went out the door then how special would it be?
I’ve been asked every year “what is it that drives this passion for peak fall foliage”, my best answer (besides the standard I don’t know) is that part of the passion comes from the chase. Going out each morning and not knowing what I’m going to find.
I think we all enjoy watching the first buds of green in the spring which develop into the leaves of summer. In the autumn we begin the transition to winter and just before that we have a short period of time where the leads put on a show. Some years this show is extraordinary and others not so, but every year is different so we never know what we’re going to see.
It’s up to you my dear reader to think about it and decide is the hype really worth it? I think getting out and exploring the countryside and trying new things under the excuse of leaf peeping is really what is worth it.
Your thoughts?
