So the thing that i love about the Georgie-Martin conversation is that neither person really comes out as the Winner of their argument

Martin doesn't convince Georgie to help Jon (a thing he refuses to do himself even though he is capable) and honestly alienates Georgie further from helping, and Georgie, after a back and forth about her reasons, finally lands on not wanting to be a part of any of it (a valid choice to make, but only comes after unfair comparisons between Jon and Melanie)

and one of the things I find interesting is how Jon and Melanie both fall in between this argument! Melanie's ongoing recovery is propped up as a matter of personal will rather than a series of very traumatic choices, one of which Melanie had no say in and admits she would never have agreed to. Jon's status is either a victim who just needs help or someone who "isn't trying" and is even actively looking for ways to be worse (and while Georgie precedes this with "It's not about worth", she then adds an implied "but").

It's a complicated situation, and I think falls into the larger theme of systems that give no support to the people they hurt. Georgie isn't responsible for helping Jon. No single person is. But without supports in place, people slip through the cracks and are then explained away as "not wanting to be better", especially by people who haven't seen the whole picture (as Georgie admits in season 5). Who is responsible for helping people out of situations when they might've put themselves there? Who is responsible for the people that other people don't want to be responsible for?

They're both worried! They both have people they care about! Neither of them know what to do or entirely what's going on because in their own ways they've both abstained from knowing what's going on! It's a great scene!

A very nuanced take on this complex story, thank you for sharing!

I relate to him, I feel loneliness in a very similar way and I'm way too nice and forgiving to people who may not deserve it. When Annabelle said "Because you always managed to get what you wanted through smiles and shrugs and stammerings that weren’t nearly as awkward as they seemed." I had to reconsider a few things about myself. Also I adore whenever he gets to be a bit bitchy, he's just an interesting character overall.

I’m bad at putting feelings into words, but let’s give it a shot. Martin is a well written and complex character, and his arcs throughout the podcast really gets to me— but in a good way! A lot of the things that he say in relation to the Lonely and general loneliness hits quite a bit close to home, and not to mention his responses to situations and the occasional comedic/light-hearted moments that just,, make him Him! He’s portrayed realistically to me (or, well, as realistically a horror anthology podcast can be), and is just,,, a really good character trying to make the best out of the situation he is given. But I get sad thinking about him so thinking of him being happy is also ideally the short version to this aha

I really connected to his storyline with the Lonely and his overall struggle to be the one that 'keeps it together'. He's incredibly multifaceted, like many characters in TMA, and I love the way his character is explored through how others choose to perceive him and his actions.

mmmmmmartin. I think he's an incredibly well written character. The way he interacts with and is affected by trauma is very well done, not to mention how it then changes the way he experiences and approaches relationships. Overall he's a very three-dimensional character, something that probably isn't easy to create with an audio-only format. Also he's sassy.

There's a lot of answers to this, but most of all I love how multi-faceted he is. He's kind, a people pleaser, he wants everyone to be happy, and he's passive aggressive and needs his alone time. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and he lies about stuff all the time. He avoids acknowledging the awful truth as long as possible, and he has already considered the worst case scenario. And on top of all that he likes spiders. Character of all time.

Martin is just such a strong character emotionally, he is the teams rock taking the blunt of everyone's (mostly Jon's) outbursts yet still comforts them when he can. He's not perfect but he try's. and I think that's rather admirable. He's also really funny and relatable too, but that's just an added bonus.

His character development from that soft, bumbling idiot (as John portrays him) into the Antichrist's +1 is beautiful to watch, and, quite frankly, I love his voice!

oh man i love the distortion reveal in this episode!! the way it recontextualizes what the audience thinks of is two separate characters is so good, and it works in part because so much of the audience in some way fell for exactly the same thing the characters did! I don't have a whole Spiel, but for me it's close to the best reveal of the season! Love how it really gives an extra dimension to the spiral's methods of instilling fear

It does! I love how much shock the fandom was in right after this epsiode, the discussions were amazing.

Shrieking, dying, laughing, etc, I was trying to start tag entry on Ao3 for my latest fic and did the most intense double-take for a second

Obviously there are not a lot of canonical relationship tags for Caleb Wittebane yet (he only just got a canon character tag a month ago...) so I was seeing what options came up for "/" tags, since at the moment there does not appear to be a great option for his and Evelyn's relationship (she understandably doesn't have a tag yet, considering how little we know about her, but since his partner actually has a name now, the old "/Original Female Character" tag has somewhat outlived its usefulness, at least for that particular relationship)

Anyways please imagine my surprise when two options that came up when I typed "Caleb Wittebane" into the search bar involved "Mollymauk Tealeaf/" and "Essek Thelyss/" because you'll never guess who else's canonical tags crop up when you type a very minor Caleb W without many tags of his own into Ao3

fellas the tma chokehold on me continues but then gltas came back to me for like 2 seconds

spent half of this year at a phone-based job that left me incredibly tired but hey art still happened sometimes! then my new job kicked in and I ended up writing more rather than drawing as much. so it goes. I think it was an all right year!
