But here's the thing, once you get used to your parrot and you come up with a routine, it really isn't hard at all! My spouse and I have it down to a science. We have places where we could improve, but we always get glowing praise from the vet, so it's more about striving for perfection at this point. I'm not saying it didn't take a lot of work to get there, or that anyone could, but we did!

Meanwhile, I remember dealing with titration and chemical balance and everything else in my many chem classes, and I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot poll

Hard agree about mammal bias in pets. There’s a whole attitude of “it’s just a fish” and a whole host of ethical issues within the fish keeping community because fish are seen as less than animals like cats and dogs. From keeping large fish (giant gourami, pacu, iridescent sharks, etc) in home aquariums at all—they’re not nearly big enough for the size these fish get—to seeing fish in general as ornaments rather than living things that need to be appropriately cared for. Every time I see a betta in an unheated, unfiltered bowl or a goldfish given away as a prize, a part of me dies inside.

I love the aesthetics of fish tanks, but when I did my research into how much work it takes to care for fish, I decided they were too difficult for me to do so.

I own parrots. I think fish are harder to care for than parrots. And I have receipts.

People who properly care for their fish are heroes.

YANDERE EIJIROU KIRISHIMA HEADCANONS

He's wacky and cray-cray (not to mention kinda has a rock for a brain and is possessive ASF) and tries EVERYTHING to make you smile and be happy. He'd be sad when you're sad and cries when you do. It honestly breaks his heart to see you cry since he'll remember his depressing past and he'll try his best to put a smile on your face again 

On a scale from 1-10, I'd rate him a 0.5 since there is no WAY daddy shark would hurt his precious pebble, but if you drive him over the edge, he might 'accidentally' use his quirk on you and let his waterworks loose by crying and sobbing all over you how sorry he is for hurting you 

He baby proofs the place when he kidnaps you and you won't even see a plastic butter knife out 

When it comes to other people though, I'd rate him a 5/10 since he's Red Riot for F sake! He's viewed to be a chivalrous doofus to the world, a Crimson Riot admirer that too and he has a reputation to maintain, just like Deku, however this boi has a dark sadistic side that you do NOT want to see AT ALL

He might hurt someone really badly but I can't really see him actually killing someone. If they get under his nerves though, well.... Sayonara to them 

He LOVES to dress you up, be it frilly gowns or lacy gowns or an oversized hoodie of his whatever. But he won't make you wear anything that you don't feel comfortable in. He wants you to comfortable around him and his presence and how is he going to make that happen if you're unhappy with what you're wearing? After all, he's a man and he NEEDS to take care of his pebble's needs

He's a restraint yandere. He loves you so much and is so infatuated with you that he NEVER wants to let you go, EVER. He's scared you might leave him so he does the first thing that pops into his head and takes you in his care *Cough, legal kidnapping, cough*

Like all bad guys, he has a partner he works with. And if you guessed that Bakugou is his right hand man, YAY YOU! You win a free cookie...

Kirishima wants to prove to you that he's YOUR hero, your savior. So, he'll order some villains to make you feel as uncomfortable and miserable as possible and suddenly, WHOOSH, he's gonna swoop down and save you asking if you're all right. Yes, don't be surprised if he's in contact with the LOV

He loves to spoil you, HECK, he'll even buy you a large MANSION like from those Disney movies if it'll make you happy and smile since it's obvious that rock boi here is a SUCKER for your dazzling smile. It just makes him see stars :)

He's best described as a puppy always looing for affection from you. If you're reading a book, he'll just place you onto his lap and nuzzle in your neck. If you're playing a game, he'll cuddle you and see how good you are at it. And if you both are watching a movie, he'll hug you and not let go. Basically speaking, he's a cuddle monster. And when you refuse to show him some love and affection, he'll give you the look of a kicked puppy which may tug a few of your heartstrings and finally cave into his desires

If you try escaping or drive him over the edge, he'll just punish you with the restriction of your luxuries and YES, that ALSO includes no doing your favorite thing till you behave like a good girl and earn his trust back (Which won't take less than 5 days btw) He just can't bring himself to hurt you even though Bakugou always tells him to

He's a yandere who's easy to manipulate, like easy peasy lemon squeazy type of easy to manipulate. Want something? It'll be there in no time. He'll give you anything you ask for except for your freedom of course 

When you finally develop Stockholm Syndrome and admit that you finally love him, he'll be over the moon with joy and act like he conquered the world. That cheesy grin of his won't go away for days together. It'll be a win-win for everyone and you can even expect a little gift wrapped neatly for you by a loud explosive hyperactive blonde who's also equally happy for you both

It’s hard when you realise that like your only social contact is your family and that puts pressure on you because that’s what family’s are like I guess so you need to spend less time with them but you also can’t stay on your own because you’re hella lonely because all your friends live at the other end of the country or even on a different continent and the two „friends“ you have in your town are a brand of neurodivergence that clashes with yours so you need a monthlong break every time you saw one of them because you’re overstimulated and also you just realized that even one of your „closest“ internet friends doesn’t even really care about you because they get a basic fact you always bring on wrong but actually that’s okay because you notice you don’t care that much enough them either and you’re only like in one friend group because you have mutual friends but it’s not like either of you ever voiced that so you are left feeling squeazy whenever you interact and also it means you have even LESS friends than you previously thought????? And also you want to spend less time on your phone and live more in the moment so you feel even more lonely because that’s where everyone is.

The truth

You can probably guess what I'm going to say by dint of the word above, which has rather fallen out of fashion; we now use the longer form, from the 19th century, "obituary".

But it's an inescapable truth: our death.

And yet, we're so riven by dread, undernourished by the Rough Gods, that we dare not mention the "D" word for fear we'll hasten our demise.

Or, I assume that that's the case, otherwise, we'd be as disposed to its vernacular as that other (apparently) prescient message, i.e. we've got to live up to our God-given potential.

Or else!

But I don't buy it.

What?

The growth thing.

Namely, as I oft say: what is enough growth?

Huh?

Sorry, that's a bit glib.

What I mean to say is when, apropos of our lives, do we know we've lived into or up to our potential?

What, when the good ship of comfort sails its merry way and everything is easy-peasy, lemon-squeazy?

What am I trying to say?

I'm saying that death -- our death, and not everyone else's -- should be at the bare minimum an antidote that sits alongside our potential to remind us that grace, love and sagacity are qualities that are unlikely to come about when we're on the path to greatness -- whatever that looks like.

Another way of saying that is to suggest we should be deepened in our diminishment a bit like fine wine that ages as it goes.

Will we?

Will we what?

Start talking about death to remind us that potential is a chimaera and not a very edifying one at that.

I doubt it.

But that won't stop me from writing on the subject and being troubled aloud.

Five comfort characters, five tags

Well, who would've thought I'd be tagged in something like this... not me 😂

Thanks @kindaconfusingme for thinking of me. Though I have to admit this task turned out to be rather hard for me, especially since I approached it with an "easy peasy lemon squeazy" kind of attitude. Turns out I got a lot of comfort things: books, movies, music, food, clothing... but comfort characters? A character that gives me comfort solely by existing and not as part of a story? Surprisingly, I had trouble naming even one character, let alone five...

Now, enough whining about my sorrows concerning this tag game. Please, enjoy this list of comfort(-ish) characters I compiled in no particular order.

Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) - he was actually the first to pop up in my mind when thinking of a comfort character. A few years ago this would have surprised even myself since I've always enjoyed Anakin and his dynamics with other characters far more than Luke. But since Disney keeps shitting out new material Luke made his appearance again and I have to admit that I was deeply moved by his appearance, it had a feeling similar to coming home after a long journey. It just felt good and comforting for some reason. So congratulations Luke, you earned yourself a place in this tag game.

Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce and B.J. Hunnicut (MASH) - I simply adore this series for several reasons but these two are clearly one of them. I love how they use jokes and pranks to make their lives in a war more bearable, their sharp and biting sarcasm, but how they still know when to be serious and show vulnerability, their humanity, which sometimes is hard to maintain in a war. The way they take care of themselves and their friends when they are about to break and shatter from what's happening all around them is very moving for me.

Alicia Gris and Juan Manuel Vargas (The Labyrinth of the Spirits) - not sure whether these two (who count as one by the way) really fit the term "comfort" character but at least they have lived rent free in my head ever since I read the book. Regarding all the pain and unhealed trauma they just ignore and never talk about the "comfort" part might not be fitting but I love them and their dynamic so incredibly much that they earned their spotlight here. (My fave BroTP/OTP... can't decide which is better (Both. Both is good))

Ezio Auditore da Firenze (Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood and Relations) - my video game husband. Do I need to add more? The Prince Charming is cute, funny and knows how to stab people. What else would you want??

Erend (Horizon Zero Dawn) - this might be my latest hyperfixation speaking but so what.. big, tough guy strong enough to swing a battle axe as if it were a toothpick who is actually kind of a cinnamon roll and a sweet dumbass trying his best? (He's a little confused, but he's got the spirit) Sign me up! Also a fan of whatever is going on with the hair and the beard.

This took and turned out way longer than I thought, so thanks for coming to my Ted talk, I guess.
