god i love the detail of s4 jesse being so desperate to bite back, to be fucking mean to someone, that he antagonizes the recovery group leader and brings up his dead daughter. it's such a fucking nasty, awful thing to say and it's just the prologue to him telling the rest of the group that he's only here to sell meth to them. we know at this point that jesse isn't stupid, that basically Everything said to him sticks in his brain, so of course he's going to remember that moment from rehab and he's going to weaponize it because he knows from experience that nothing hurts worse than having ur moment of vulnerability used against u. i know its like a small thing overall, but jesse targeting the group leader (a guy who has only ever been nice and patient with him) and hurting him in a place that he knows will sting stands out so much as a transformative character moment. telling the story about "putting down a dog" didn't solicit enough anger, enough punishment, so he went for the jugular in a new, uncharacteristic way. bite back. fight with me. bite back.

Please I want to know more about what animals you think Dick and Damian should’ve been in Beastworld
This Got long and I’m not even posting half of it. First, sorry this took so long. Secondly I haven’t read Beastworld, so I’m not exactly answering for that book. And lastly, I know you asked about Dick and Damian specifically, but to answer that I will have to address Bruce.
My two cents on What animal represents [Bruce, Dick and Damian] in my biased opinion ?
First: big daddy, Bruce Wayne
Tumblr media
His most famous associated animals are bats and wolves, but I don’t think they fully capture his heart. My argument? He’s a silverback gorilla. Here’s why:
Looks intimidating, actually ridiculous.
Leads through dominance. Silverbacks call the shots; others follow. (His "sons" may assist, but they execute his orders—they don’t co-lead.)
Bruce’s core trauma is losing his parents, which left him afraid of new connections. He craves bonds but is held back by fear of loss.
Wolves and bats are social creatures; they form families and raise their young together. But where they don’t fit Bruce is that they thrive on cooperation. Being a team player isn’t his style—he tolerates it at best.
Wolves are pack hunters, while Bruce prefers to work alone. He’s more of a protector than a hunter to me. His goal is to defend his domain (Gotham), and to do that, he establishes Batman’s dominance—which fits a silverback better than a wolf.
Bruce is an absolute unit. He uses his size and strength to intimidate first. Everyone who doesn’t know him sees that threatening glare and imposing presence and fears him… but secretly, he’s a tired dad of five.
It’s also funny how gorillas are portrayed in media (King Kong: scary, monstrous) versus what they actually are: family-oriented gentle giants who only fight when threatened, care deeply for their young, and grieve their losses. They’re silent protectors. Sound familiar? That’s the mainstream’s view of Batman versus who he really is.
In conclusion, a wolf or a bat might describe aspects of Bruce, but they don’t capture his subtext and heart. To me, the silverback gorilla does.
Second: Our favorite loyal son, Dick Grayson
Tumblr media
Now, here’s the real wolf of the Bat-family—but not for the angst they project onto Bruce.
Looks cute, actually scary. (Don’t pet the murder dog.)
Wolves are social; their pack is family. Dick is naturally social and adopts people as ride-or-die kin.
No “lone wolf” nonsense. If wolves leave, it’s to find food or form a new pack—just like Dick, pre Crisis Dick just felt like he out grown his Robin custom left and built his own family (the Titans).
Wolves thrive in teams. There’s no squad Dick can’t lead; he’s the ultimate cooperator.
They lead through trust and respect, not dominance—Opposite to Batman and just like Nightwing.
Wolves aren’t the biggest predators, but they’re fast, agile, and win through teamwork. Fits Dick’s acrobatic, hit-and-flip fighting style.
Bruce’s tantrum over Dick leaving? Yeah, that was his emotional support puppy growing up.
I don’t feel like there is a strong reason to make big comparison between wolf a foxes. I feel like its too obvious i honestly was shocked they even thought about making dick a fox of all beings. Foxes are cooperative but solitary, they know a lot of friends but won’t necessarily call it a ‘family’. They are registered as “low threat” which lets be real, even regular mob in Gotham knows not to miss with nightwing he is not ‘low threat’ etc etc
like Read these pages and tell me thats not a Silverback Dad and his over energized wolf son?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
>> skipping over: Barbara, Tim, Steph, Cass and all the Titans we get to
Lastly: the most Responsible baby in the world, Damian Wayne
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like I should point out that a lot of Damian personally get confused with his Trauma, but I don’t have time to dive into that so lets jump to the direct answer of the question
From what I’ve seen, Damian gets labeled a "cat" to paint him as rebellious, independent, and aloof. I’ll argue this is a shallow take that misses on the his core qualities. and, just like with his father, it fails to capture his heart.
Damian’s core quality imo isn’t ‘arrogance’ its his sense of responsibility.
Some confuse Damian’s violence and stubbornness for pure rebellion. But his independence isn’t about defiance; it’s his determination to do whatever it takes to ensure the group’s success.
inter the Anatolian Shepherd. Independent but devoted. take their responsibility very seriously, you can depend on them 100%. strong fighters who are able to take down wolves, big cats and even on some accounts, bears (?). They Have a habit of taking charge and micro organize the ’flock’ so I can imagine the rest going like “oh god here he comes to see how i got myself injured” lmao
Anatolians are loyal to their flock but don’t see themselves as servants—they’re equals in ensuring the group’s survival. Damian has outright told both his Batmen (Bruce and Dick) that he’s their equal. He doesn’t wait for orders; he decides when to act. Its BECAUSE he have a huge sense of responsibility he would defy orders, hence why he mistakenly gets labeled as “rebellious” aka a cat.
Once Damian felt respected by the Batfam (first Dick, and Stephanie), he started taking active responsibility for them. Even in the League of Assassins, his drive was never "I want this" or "I deserve this"—it was "My family’s honor depends on me." again, responsibility not ego
Anatolians aren’t predators; they’re guardians. Why does Damian care about Gotham? He didn’t grow up there. It’s simple: It’s his father’s home, its where his now family is, so he’ll protect it. His entire arc with Bruce echoes this: "Your son will not fail you." “I had to do it, to protect our kingdom”
Anatolians aren’t tyrants—they’re trusted because they’re good at their job. Damian doesn’t demand obedience for power’s sake (he’s handed authority to Dick and Bruce willingly). He loses it when others disrespect him because they assume he’s selfish or incompetent. Dick broke through to him by respecting him—he just needed Damian to work with him. Its so so important to understand Dick didn’t ‘tame’ Damian, he earned the right to lead him. Anatolians follow equals, not masters.
At the end I don’t think Damian is a Cat or an Attack dog or even a falcon for many reasons, but essentially: non of them fit or explain his deep devotion to his loved ones, his fundamental sense of responsibility. or his strong sense of duty. Damian is like an Anatolian Shepherd—responsible, disciplined, and protective. (Also it doesn’t help this kid just keep collecting farm animals wherever he goes, and be shown feeding and introducing them like he can’t help it)

the fact that "breaking bad" literally took the time to draw a direct parallel between marie and jesse by starkly juxtaposing their respective struggles in that one episode where she becomes obsessed with going to open house showings and stealing things just as he becomes totally numb and lets people come into his house and steal his things......both having been used and now reacting the only ways they know how, unsupported and unseen in their pain.....ill bury myself in the dirt idc

UNRELATED: at 344 hours of chinese listening and I finished HP5 audiobook. (and the audiobook did NOT need to be 31 fucking hours, it had so much filler, but being optimistic I guess it made me practice listening for 31 more hours >o>)
My options now are: force myself to listen to and finish HP6 and HP7, despite being sick of these fucking audiobooks, because that's around ~60 more hours of practice listening and I am a stubborn fucker. I am stubborn and spiteful and I KNOW I'll fucking understand HP6 and HP7, so they'll be 'comprehensible input' listening material. I know I'll understand so they'll definitely cause improvement, I know I'll understand even if I only pay partial attention because I understood all of HP5 with partial attention, I might learn 1000-2000 more new words from them which will make FUTURE listening easier, and I can say I honestly tested out 'using all of the HP audiobooks to improve my listening in a language' and can compare my experiences to others who have done it.
Like this Spanish learner, and these people in the comments, including ZoomSOM "At ~550 hours right now and halfway through the fourth audiobook.  I understand 95-99% of the "story" but miss some of the details." A lot of people mention 600-1000 hours to understand HP1, but as we know HP4 is much harder than HP1 and HP5-7 are the hardest with the most unique words. I am guessing maybe 1000-1500 hours to understand HP7... but I can't find anyone listing specifically HP7. This person read all of HP by 1500 hours.
So it looks like HP5-7 seem understandable to many people learning Spanish by around 1000-1500 hours. For the early learners, 450-600 hours (but it was 450 hours for HP1). So for Chinese, (a doubled Dreaming Spanish roadmap) that would be 2000-3000 hours. And for early learners, 900-1200 hours in Chinese. I have 891 hours of Chinese listening total now (547 estimated hours of prior listening, 344 hours since starting my chinese listening experiment). So either I am REALLY good at listening to audiobooks... or I may have underestimated the hours of prior listening/hours of comprehensible input I got.
I wonder if my estimated hours of prior comprehensible input should be higher...
I also wonder if when I finish HP6 and HP7 audiobooks, I'll be as good at listening to Chinese as those people with 1500 hours of Spanish are with listening to Spanish. Not necessarily, as some people listened to HP1-7 in Spanish from hours 450-600ish, and still had to keep listening to Spanish until 1500 hours to see the progress they wanted.
I will probably... just fucking finish this audiobook series. I can't properly compare myself to other learners who listened to these, and their results, if I don't even finish doing it myself. So I suppose that's settled. -.- I'm going to 'speedrun' these fucking audiobooks, and somehow listen to them in a few days each. So I can get through them asap. Thankfully, I no longer need to re-listen to them to understand them. (A form of self torture I'm sure, making myself listen to HP1-4 two times. I sure felt like I was suffering by the time I got to HP4).
Afterward I'm gonna fucking reward myself and either listen to MoDu audiobook all the way through or ZhenHun all the way through. I'm already rewarding myself by listening to MoDu audio drama in the evening, a nice palette cleanser. (And yes, alternatively learner podcasts could be listened to but I just get SOOOOO bored of slice of life daily life podcasts, so fucking bored of learner materials so fast)
#rant#chinese listening experiment#so hears the deal. i bitch and bitch. because I hate HP. and some of the childish squeaking actors are driving me up a wall.#but in terms of using it as learning material? It is quite useful and I'm just bitching#It is 1. basically graded listening material (since each book adds ~1000 unique words). 2. a LOT of fucking practice with simple sentences#since the books are so long (it's going to be like 200 hours of my study so far) 3. The narrator guy reads incredibly CLEARLY and just#slightly slowly (which is easy for learners to get used to and to clearly hear new word pronunciations)#4. the actors ALSO all read incredibly clearly and act out the emotions STRONGLY which helps provide context#and differentiate who is talking#5. the scenes ALL have sound effects which also provide context (crowds have crowd background noise. rain has rain noises.#flying has wind noises)#Like... in honesty they are very well made Chinese audiobooks which are very accessible - in Hoopla app free - and very easy to understand#As a comparison - Twilight is as easy as HP3 audiobook BUT the characters all talk more like actual teenagers. So the voices in Twilight ar#all more slurred/muffled/less intense tones compared to the HP audiobooks#which is harder to listen to and parse if you haven't been practicing listening.#as a learning material the HP audiobooks are quite useful. as much as im bitching because im sick of them#i recognize the reason a lot of other learners find them useful

i would go so far as to say character death in dd2 kingdoms is even more gutting than in dd1. there's apparently no way of bringing them back in any form and if they were an integral part of some of your team builds well that's lost to you for this run, bad for you
