Left Behind Chapter 3
Masterlist to find other chapters: Here
Chapter 2 is here
Chapter Summary- The Funeral for Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin
Warnings- obviously a lot of angst in this chapter. Although Jake is still alive, the team doesn’t know this and so this chapter is when they hold the funeral for their fallen friend and teammate
I hope I did the scene justice
Tumblr media
The remains believed to be Lieutenant Jake “Hangman” Seresin arrived at the docks of Miramar in the middle of the night and during a torrential rain storm. The disembarkment was immediately halted and Admiral Simpson ordered a guarded watch on the casket until conditions improved. The crew of the carrier all opted to remain onboard as a show of respect, while the Dagger Squad remained at Top Gun waiting for the clouds to clear enough for their teammate to come home.
Javy Machado eventually reached his limit though, his need for his brother to be back on land and in the closest place to a home he ever had winning out as he begged Cyclone to reconsider. Javy also couldn’t bear the thought of Jake being alone in the bowels of a ship for even a second longer, Jake deserved better.
So at half past two in the morning, in the pouring rain Javy stood at attention, his arm raised unwavering in a salute as six men carried the casket bearing what was believed to be Hangman down across the docks. The other Daggers all joined Coyote, standing in line and with respect to their fallen comrade. Not one of them brushed the rain out of their faces; instead they used it to hide their own tears that fell just as quickly.
When the casket was parallel to their group, Javy took a step forward, walking out of his post to come closer to the flag-draped coffin. He reached a shaky hand out, clutching weakly at the sodden fabric and felt his sobs shudder through his body. He stood there for a long while, the progression waiting for his cue, not a sound across the area despite the horrid conditions.
Finally, Javy pulled back and nodded at the leader, who clicked his heels and started the march once more towards the hangars. Coyote stumbled backward, his body at a loss as his heart felt decimated in his chest. Before he could fall though, strong arms gripped him, Payback taking one side while Omaha grabbed the other, his Dagger Family supporting Javy from all sides as he crumbled into tears.
The funeral was set for two days after, in the same cemetery that Admiral Kazanksy had been laid to rest. Captain Mitchell had gone pale when Coyote informed his Commanding Officers of his decision for Jake to be buried close to North Island but the older man didn’t argue, just gripped his Lieutenant’s arm tightly as they talked over logistics.
Due to the high priority mission that Hangman had been shot down attempting, the higher ups in the Navy had all been informed and were stated to attend. Admiral Simpson informed Coyote that even the Secretary of the Navy had confirmed his attendance for the event. Unfortunately the man was a family friend of John Seresin, Jake’s father, who had made quite a name for himself in Washington Politics as an oil lobbyist. The Naval Secretary had of course offered his condolences to the entire Seresin family when he stated his intention of going leading to John and his wife Corrine to find out the details of their son’s untimely demise. Despite the fact that they had all but disowned their son when he chose to enlist as a means to get out of the cold and abusive house they created, the Seresins were going to the funeral. As the old adage went, never let a good tragedy go to waste, and John Seresin knew that the death of his son could be the perfect stepping stone for his own aspirations of political office. The Texas Governor primary was only a few short months away.
Javy might have punched a wall in Admiral Simpson’s office when he found out Jake’s parents were coming.
Which was followed by Maverick punching a different wall when Javy explained the horrible abuse Jake suffered by their hands growing up.
Admirals Simpson and Bates were also upset, though they managed to keep their fists from going through anymore drywall. However if a few privates and administrators happened to hear Beau screaming in insubordination to Admiral Cain about sitting the Seresins in the front row, they all managed to keep it to themselves. Besides, Cyclone lost that battle before he even tried.
Javy wanted to be mad, wanted to scream and shout and cry and punch until the wound that had developed in his heart by the loss of his best friend stopped aching so desperately. He wanted Jake’s parents as far away from the funeral as humanly possible but yet he also wanted them right there, right in front so they could see the man their son was. The heroic and strong soldier, the ace pilot, the unbelievable friend; the man they should have loved and been proud of but instead they sneered at and tried to destroy.
The funeral was still by his design, despite the added attendees, and all Coyote really wanted was to speak on his friend’s behalf. Just like on the carrier that day when he fought over the debrief, Javy wanted to fight for the fallen pilot now, to show everyone the true Jake Seresin, the one that so very few people got the privilege to really see.
Cyclone of course agreed and so on the day of Hangman’s funeral, as the warm California sun hung high in the crisp blue sky, Javy stood in his dress whites and went to the podium. He was a horrible public speaker in school but at this moment his hands didn’t shake. He strode up there with purpose and with as much composure as someone in this sort of situation could manage. Javy squared himself as he set his papers in order, taking a glance at the crowd watching him. It was a good group, not the level that Admiral Kazanksy had gotten of course but it was still heartwarming to see the people who had come out. Every Dagger was there, and every Vigilante too, all the Cos standing tall and proud and even a surprising number of civilians. Penny Benjamin was there to pay her respects, her daughter at her side, each with weighty looks of grief for the loss. Javy’s own family came out in droves; the years of Jake attending all holidays with the Machados making them feel the loss as profoundly as Javy himself. Corrine and John sat in the front row, next to the Secretary of the Navy, the two parents wearing sunglasses to hide the fact that they had yet to shed even the slightest tear. Their son’s portrait hung right in front of them, Jake looking like the All-American hero that he was and yet neither could even bother to spare a second glance.
Javy didn’t let it deter him, instead he used it to fuel his speech even more.
“All of you here have come to pay your respect to Jake Seresin, but I’m sorry to say, I’m not sure if you all really knew Jake Seresin.” He looked up, expecting some looks from his words, a small feeling of vindication coming to him when he saw John Seresin squirm just the tiniest bit. “There were many faces to Jake, many different shows, all of them a part of him, but none the whole story. There was Hangman, the pilot, the best of the best, that’s the one most of you saw, the one he let the world see the most.” Javy huffed out a breath, “Hangman was Jake’s mask, the stone cold, heartless aviator that could swoop in and get the job done without breaking a sweat. Somehow that version of Jake became known for leaving his wingman behind. ‘Hangman leaving everyone hangin’” Coyote looked over to Phoenix, could see the young woman’s lip trembling with silent sobs, “I would ask Jake if it bothered him, that his call-sign was so purely insulting but he would always shake his head. ‘Let them say what they want Coyote’ he would tell me, ‘I’ll prove it to them in the end.’” Coyote sniffed back a sob, tears welling a bit in his eyes as he turned to the portrait of his best friend, “you showed ‘em man” he told the picture of Jake’s graduation photo, his green eyes wide, his hair perfectly coiffed and his smile just on the cusp of staying professional without looking too much like the cocky smirk he preferred. “Hangman was meant to be in the sky” Javy informed the group of people before him, “he was meant to be a pilot and he knew it. I wish that I could be as sure at anything as Jake was that the Navy was where he belonged. He excelled at it, in a way that was just unheard of. His skills were the best I’ve ever seen,” Coyote closed his eyes and pictured the times he got to fly with Jake in training, before the suicide mission and the pressure, when it was just Jake and Javy doing what they loved, “he devoured everything he could on planes and flying and the math and science of it all. He studied constantly, not just manuals but the mission logs of the men he admired most” Javy’s eyes roamed to Maverick. Pete was watching stoically, a twitch in his jaw betraying his emotions, though he stood straight and at attention. “Jake served his country faithfully, bravely, and heroically for over twelve years. He had countless deployments, endured things that would have broken lesser men and women but yet he never faltered.” Coyote sighed, “Jake took a life during one of his assignments, the first confirmed air to air kill in three decades. The Navy celebrated him, his team celebrated him, Hangman celebrated himself but Jake, the Jake he was afraid to let you all see” Javy shook his head, “he hated himself for it.” He looked over to the Dagger and Vigilante teams, all faced forward in respect but Coyote could tell they were all listening. “Jake was human, surprisingly so under all that cocky personality, and it killed him to take that life no matter what the circumstances.” He huffed weakly, “he’d kill me for telling you all this too but he cried all night that night after it happened, called me halfway through and I could barely understand him.” Javy motioned to his mother, Dorinda who was sobbing into Javy’s father handkerchief, “He even called my mother just to have that maternal figure to beg forgiveness from” there was a visible shudder from Corrine Seresin. “But Jake never needed to ask for forgiveness, not from us. He needed it from himself for the nightmares that plagued him for years after, that still plagued him, all the way until the end.”
Javy took a step back for a moment, flipping the page and taking a breather, his eyes avoiding the flag covered coffin and still staying on his best friend’s photo; the way he would always remember Jake, not a scorched body in a wooden box. Javy closed his eyes and tried to stay composed as his heart lurched thinking of Jake’s final moments. But he couldn’t lose it, not now, he still had more to say.
“Jake was not perfect” Coyote offered, “although if he was next to me he would probably have already grabbed the microphone to inform you that ‘yes in fact, he is perfect, in all things in fact’” Javy felt a little renewed at the wet chuckles from some of his teammates, “but Jake Seresin was stubborn, like a damn donkey. You couldn’t make him do anything he didn’t want to, believe me, 12 years of trying to get the guy to let me win one round of darts is the biggest proof of that.” The laughs sounded again, “And he was hardheaded; his three concussions alone can tell you. He pushed constantly, and not always in the right ways but it was for good reasons, I can assure you.” He looked up in the sky, “Jake wanted the best out of everyone around him because he believed that was the only way he himself could get better. He pushed you all” Javy looked to Jake’s former teammates, “and I know he pushed your buttons. I know there were times you wanted to punch him in his perfect teeth, some of you even did” he winked at Rooster, Phoenix, Omaha and Fritz, the latter two giving watery yet knowing nods back at him. “Hell I even punched him too one time when he mocked my landing after a long day. But you know what he did after? He got some ice for his blackening eye and then brought over the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream that he told me I couldn’t touch even though it was both of our favorites and he let me eat the whole thing. He never apologized for what he said,” Javy shook his head, “Hangman was not good at that, but he showed me that it wasn’t coming from a place of malice, just the need to make us all better. And that next day before we took off, he mentioned a few things he wanted to work on in his own landings, things he wanted to clean up-“ Coyote smiled to the group, “they were the things I needed to work on. Jake made it so we worked on it together.” The man at the podium scoffed fondly, “still felt good to get that punch in though, and seeing him with a black eye for a week did make me feel better, even if he got more attention from women when we went out because of it.”
As a few more laughs died away, Coyote looked down. There was one page left of his speech, the hardest page and Javy just closed his eyes for a moment and channeled his best friend’s strength. “I can’t say a lot about the mission that took Jake Seresin from this world. It was classified but let me assure you that what Jake and the rest of the team accomplished that day was nothing short of miraculous and we all should thank them for what they were able to achieved. Jake was shot down protecting a teammate” Javy’s eyes were still on his paper but he could hear the sudden sob of Rooster from a few feet away. Coyote knew if he looked up he wouldn’t be able to continue so he kept his head down and soldiered on. “He took a missile that would have killed a friend and it resulted in his own death.” The tears were falling now from the man’s face but he didn’t wipe them, “it hurts losing Jake like that” he told the crowd, “but it’s not surprising because it is exactly the way that Jake would have wanted to go.” Javy nodded to himself, willing his voice to stay steady, “for someone that was so cocky, and seemingly so full of himself, Jake had very little self-worth. I know that in his final moments he believed his life was not worth as much as his friends.” Coyote sobbed into his hand, which had started to tremble slightly as his emotions got the better of him. He dropped his head, cursing himself for failing to get through his whole speech when he felt a hand on his back. “You can do this” Captain Mitchell whispered softly, rubbing his hand comfortingly across the man’s spine, “you can.”
Javy shook his head, still not looking up, “no-“
“Yes,” Maverick insisted, surprisingly strong despite his own voice cracking slightly, “do it for Jake. Do it for your wingman.”
Coyote scrunched up his eyes and dipped his head a bit lower, thinking of his best friend; of all the times Jake was there for him, on early morning workouts pushing Javy to go a little bit further, up in the sky when he got Coyote to go just a bit faster, when he stayed with Javy and the rest of the Machados’ after the loss of Javy’s oldest sister, holding his best friend as he sobbed and being the strength that Javy couldn’t muster at the moment. Jake pushed him out of his comfort zone time and time again and it was only fitting that he would still manage it now, at his own damn funeral. Sighing out a long breath, Javy raised his head again, and powered on. “Jake was better than he thought he was, he deserved so much better. But even despite all that he still defied every expectation. I have never been more proud of him, my brother, than in his final moments. I want to end my speech today with some words from Jake himself“ Javy’s voice hitched as he unfolded an additional tinier piece of paper as carefully as possible, the writing a neat script that Maverick could see belonged to the deceased pilot. Javy cleared his throat, “the night before the mission Jake wrote letters for all of you.” He looked over to his teammates, “I apologize that it took me so long to be strong enough to go through his things to find them but I will give them to you after, so that you can hold a piece of him with you all as well.” Javy looked back down, “my letter, it-“ he sniffed, “it’s exactly how I would imagine Jake’s goodbye letter would be. I won’t read you all of it but there are some parting words I think you all need to hear to remember the real Jake Seresin by” he lifted the paper, afraid that if he kept it laying on the podium his tears might wet and ruin his best friend’s handwriting. “He said, ’I hope that if the worst has happened to me” Coyote began emotionally, “’that at least the rest of the team is okay. I’m sorry Javy, but I told you if the team leader spot is mine, I’m making sure they all get home, no matter what the cost. I hope you can forgive me-‘” the man started to sob again, Maverick griping his arm now to steady him. “’But they have more to give than this, more to give this world. You have to tell them to be the best of the best, goddamn it’” Javy wiped at his eyes, “’the tip of the sword, the pride of the Navy. Flying with them has been the biggest privilege of my life. I’m a better pilot, a better man, because of each and every one of them.’” Coyote looked to the Daggers, all of them openly crying, clutching each other in support as they listened to their fallen comrade’s words. “’I hope my final moments made them proud, that I made up for all the moments I failed them or let them down. I hope I made you proud too Javy, and your family. I could never thank you all enough for saving me all those years ago and showing me that family goes far beyond blood.’” The Machado contingent cried out louder, the entire distinguished Naval funeral collapsing into an emotional display of grief but Javy didn’t care. Jake deserved to see how much he was loved and Javy knew somewhere, wherever he was, Jake could see it. “Jake ended his letter asking for only one thing” the man told his audience, “he said, ‘If it’s not too much Javy, I wish that you and the others can think of me sometimes, just a couple of times as the years go on, so I’m not completely forgotten from this world. I didn’t do much but I hope I made a difference enough to you all that when you think of me it will be fondly. Please don’t remember me as Hangman but just as Jake. I might not have been a big part of all your lives but you meant the world to me’.” Javy lowered the paper carefully, and sobbed out a breath, “I will think of Jake everyday” he told the crowd, “and I hope you will too. And not Hangman like he said, but the real Jake Seresin, the man who loved his team and loved his country. The best man I ever knew.”
Javy left the podium with the help of Maverick, earning a hug from the man before being completely enveloped by his mother, father and abuela. When he finally got past his own family, Javy stood back with the Daggers, Halo reaching to clutch his hand and Bob, squeezing his bicep warmly on the other side. He felt pats on his back from some of the others but Javy kept his head straight watching as the flag folding ceremony took place as taps played out across the cemetery.
It was a somber experience, and he shed more than a few tears but there was no embarrassment, not there when so many of the bravest and most professional people Javy knew were just as emotional. Admiral Simpson even wiped his eyes discreetly a few times, while Admiral Bates was more open with his. Maverick left the tears to rundown his face with no shame, his grief palpable to all those in attendance.
After the flag was folded properly and the Corpsman moved to hand it to Javy, Jake’s mother started to cry, “My baby” she whimpered loudly, startling the solemn procession, “my baby boy.” Corrine shifted over to Lieutenant Machado with narrowed eyes, “you’re taking my baby’s flag” she accused, “he was my son, I should get it.”
Perhaps because he had Jake’s dog tags around his neck, or that somehow the coffin still didn’t seem real to him but Javy just inclined his head gently, motioning for the flag to continue down the line to Jake’s parents. He felt hands around him, it seemed both Admiral Simpson and Maverick were ready to stop this and bring the flag back to Javy as Jake’s wishes dictated but Coyote just waved them off. He was too tired all of a sudden and somehow he knew that Jake wouldn’t have minded, after all even he could never fully hate his mother and father.
As Mrs. Seresin clutched her flag and her husband held on to her, Javy did his final duty for his friend. He walked up to the coffin and stood at attention for a moment before removing the wings on his chest. He placed them gently on the wood before he raised a fist and smashed them into the casket, to be with Jake forever. Javy knew he was meant to walk away then, to get back to his spot in line but he took one last moment, one last touch to the wooden box holding his friend. Something in his heart ached the minute he made contact but it wasn’t grief, it was different, something he couldn’t explain. He had spent the whole funeral avoiding looking at the coffin because he didn’t think he was strong enough but now he thought it might be something different. It all just didn’t seem real.
Javy was startled out of his stupor as the flyover began, moving back to his spot in line with the others as the missing man formation flew over their heads. Javy’s eyes couldn’t stop staring at the lone plane that flew off the other way, the significance not lost as he questioned whether Jake was indeed fallen or just a missing man.

ROUND 1.5, MATCH 14
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joseph Christiansen
So many reasons. He's already married, he's a jerk to his wife, he's already slept with at least one of the other romance options. That romance option goes to you before a date with Jospeh and damn near begs you not to be stupid and go with him. The worst part? You put up with all this and he leaves you to "work things out with his wife". She deserves so much better than him! One of the writers even said he's a sociopath.
Married and a youth minister.
Cheater, cringe man, father of creepy children, possibly evil cultist, left a guy feeling used which said guy also became friends with Joseph's wife who appears to be an alcoholic likely as a coping mechanism since she's married to Joseph
He cheats on his wife, has done so before, lies to you by claiming that he's going to leave his wife when he clearly never intends to (and, in one ending, will even cheerfully suggest that you two continue having an affair in an extremely sleazy way), and judging by the fact that the other guy we know he cheated on his wife with, Robert, hates Joseph and is now very close friends with his wife, it seems clear to me that this whole "purposefully mislead someone into sleeping with you and then later drop the bomb that it was an affair" thing is repeat behavior with him. Also, I just find much of his behavior to be very manipulative and controlling; there are many situations where it seems to me that he's actively trying to paint others in a negative light while still coming off as saintly himself, such as an early scene where he subtly implies his wife is a shitty mom because she *checks notes* let their toddler out of her sight... during a neighborhood barbecue in a fenced-in yard surrounded by trusted adults and other kids. Also notice how in this scene he pushes *her* to go look for their son, rather than just looking himself, all while keeping up his "long-suffering husband" act. (and in other scenes can be found letting his other young children wander off into the woods with sharp implements and visibly not caring, but whatever). He does this with Robert, too -- the other guy he had an affair with. Almost everything he says about or to Robert is a subtle jab about his personality or his alcoholism. Classy, Joseph. Meanwhile, the fact that you can't actually end up with him in the end (because he was never going to leave his wife for you) started some of the most volatile discourse in the fandom and had people calling the devs homophobic and claiming they were spreading a message about "gay men needing to stay in loveless abusive marriages to women" (just ignore the fact that there are several other divorced gay dads in this game who all have great relationships with their kids and are not demonized in the slightest). HOWEVER, if you see people claiming he's a cultist or demon or something, that's untrue and was just going to be a non-canon spooky alternate ending that ended up getting cut. So I empathize with him a little bit for getting literally demonized by some fans for that cut alt ending. But he loses all those points by cheating on his wife multiple times and showing clear intent to continue doing so.
He's still married when you start dating him. He's also got like 5 kids that are some "children of the corn" kinda shit, and all their names have "Christ" in them
You don't even get to date him he's still married to his wife who he doesn't get along with. Tragic really
Jakob
I like the whole "kind of an ass, but ultimately cares about people" character trope, so I latched onto Jakob early in my first playthrough and decided to marry him. Only problem? He gets no character development, ever, and constantly crosses the line from being kind of an ass to being genuinely horrid, at least to people who aren't Corrin. Then I actually married him and found out he doesn't even get over himself after that, he stays exactly the same and turns into a really bad father as well. Sorry, but no. That killed any interest I had in the character.

Fire Emblem Sibling Duo Tournament: Winners Round 2 - Match 1
Tumblr media
Propaganda for both duos under cut:
Mercedes & Emile:
Their story is so sad. They survived a horrid man together, but were separated. Mercedes lives with guilt and a desire to have her brother return(I'd even argue that the reason Mercie acts as such a doting big sister figure for most people is because she misses Emile so much and wants to recreate that bond with someone!), but Emile is swamped with demons. On so many paths, they long to have their sibling bond restored, but Emile fears the Death Knight too much to reciprocate and often dies as a result, leaving Mercie to mourn him. On Crimson Flower, Mercedes can wind up betraying her Faerghus friends, but at least they reunite, and yet… even here, Emile has built up walls. Even if they're paired together, Emile leaves for years and only returns once his penance is paid. They have to spend so much of their lives apart.
It might be a bit cliche, but the yin yang dynamic is everything to me here. Mercedes representing healing and warmth, growing from your pains into someone kind, vs. Emile who embodies mental anguish, stagnation, violence and pain while still having the potential to grow is still interesting and cool. You also have the sacrifices Emile made, Mercedes remembering his favourite sweets even a decade after they parted, etc. Their supports are bittersweet but end on a promising note. I care too much about 3d pixel people.
Leo & Corrin:
They are so precious I love them
Corrin wants to be a good older sibling to Leo, so much, but circumstances never allowed them. Their naivety and inexperience means they can’t help him, but their life trapped in the northern fortress means they can’t give him gifts either- They try to make up for this (as seen in the nohrian festival of bonds)
All those times he killed in Corrin’s steed (or pretended to kill, in the case of Kaze and Rinkah)
But in truth, there isn’t anything Leo needs from them. Just their love is enough. (Also in nohrian festival of bonds)
But there’s more to it. Corrin is a reason in why Leo tends to left neglected, due to inexperience and naivety, the others dote on them. Leo doesn’t get help, because he’s strong right? But he yearns for it so.
Yet he loves Corrin all the same. He holds no resentment, he cherishes them. And so does Corrin.
Also things not in the game but just as great!!
the Manga (really sweet Leo and Corrin interactions, IE When Leo finds out Corrin isn’t his bio sister, so he thinks to himself to stop referring to her as such, but the moment he sees her he calls her big sister. Because despite circumstances, they will always be siblings.) Also the drama CD where Leo tries to sneak Corrin of the northern fortress because she wishes to go to the meadow and shooting stars. He creates an elaborate scheme to allow her so.
Sorry for the ramble but I love the Fates siblings especially Leo

Nyaaaaa!!! (^<) ^_____________;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
“W-what the hell?!” Niles spluttered after reading that horrid abomination, throwing it across the room.
“Robyn, you said you were going to write a crack fic chapter today!” everyone’s favorite family friendly 😉 comedic relief seethed.
The authoress, lovingly named after the Goddess of Fate herself, threw her hands up in the air.
“I did!” she protested.
“That is NOT what they meant! This is abuse of the senses!” Niles yelled.
“Well I’m sorry, I thought it was hilarious!” The authoress crossed her arms over her chest. “What do you want then?”
The thief pondered this for a moment, then a wicked smirk crept on his features.
“Say.. do you remember why you wrote this tale in the first place?”
She nodded.
“Good good..”
Niles circled the room slowly, and he could feel the gears in his head turning.
“Why don’t you give it.. a better ending. Maybe something just a little more.. chaotic?”
The pair traded mischievous smirks. After all.. this whole novel was inspired by a particular wall scene. This was going to be very fun.
Warning.. profanity and EXTREME cringe
“OMG CORRIN!”
Nohr and Hoshido (except Takumi, the only reasonable one) squealed obnoxiously.
They all met up in a field because Nohr is full of assholes and decided the Hoshidan royalty did not deserve to grieve their dead mother, and needed to be thrown into a brutal war immediately after. Did they actually do anything to deserve it? Nope, but Daddy Garon hates peace and decided everyone needed to die for an even bigger Daddy Anankos.
“OMG CORRIN!!” Camilla squealed, waving her mommy milkers in everyone’s face.
“OMG CORRIN! Hurry up and ditch your blood family already!” Leo said with an eye roll. “I know dad tried to make you kill two innocent people from Hoshido, but like, he’s not that bad!”
“No, come with us!” Ryoma called. “We don’t abuse you!”
“Aw, we only locked them in a tower for years and years!” Elise protested.
“HMMMMMMMMMMMM…..”
Corrin thought deeply and logically about this.
“I choose… NOHR!”
“What, why?!” the Hoshidan siblings yelled.
“Oh, I wanna know why dad tried to kill me. So I’ve decided I’m walking back into a castle full of Nohrians to ask him. Also, I like my Nohrian siblings. Anyways, see ya!”
(Later in the Nohrian castle)
“Dad, did you try to kill me?” Corrin asked.
“No.” Garon deadpanned, clearly annoyed that Corrin returned alive.
“Ok, I believe you!”
“Whatever. Anyways, I need you to go to this super dangerous forest where you could easily die to prove I can trust you. Alone. Also if anyone tries to help you I’ll kill them.”
“Yep that’s totally not a red flag or anything!” Corrin replied.
Corrin’s next adventures consisted of similar stupidity- I mean missions, until that fateful day on Port Dia.
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!” Takumi shouted when he confronted the Nohrian army, only to see Corrin complaining about having to fight their Hoshidan siblings.
“Ugh..” the prince groaned, facepalming as he let out a slow breath to collect himself, then shouted
“WHEN WILL YOU REALIZE THAT YOUR ACTIONS… HAVE…CONSEQUENCES?!?!?!”
“They do?” Corrin asked, frowning. “But I have plot armor!”
“Oh that’s it.. I’m taking away your water privileges on turn ten!” Takumi seethed.
After a furious battle, Corrin, who is now magically a master tactician despite growing up locked in a tower, managed to take out the pineapple haired, bow wielding menace.
“Hahaha loser, get out!” Corrin said smugly. “If you do, we won’t kill you. Probably.”
“Gee thanks, you’ve all really proven yourselves trustworthy, especially after killing BOTH MY PARENTS UNDER THE GUISE OF PEACE!” Takumi snapped. “And our civilians!”
“How rude. Mommy should beat some manners into you!” Camilla gasped, her mommy milkers flopping everywhere because ✨ fanservice ✨
“Nah let him be mad. He’s justified. Still gonna make him suffer unnecessarily tho.” Corrin replied.
“If it weren’t for you, Mother and our civilians would be alive!” Takumi shouted, causing Corrin to glitch out.
“T-too m-m-much l-logic!!!”
Then Takumi was seized with a horrible headache and retreated, swearing vengeance for his mother’s murder.
“Wow he has issues!” Camilla mommy milkers exclaimed.
That night, Corrin scribbled into their diary instead of responsibly planning the next battle.
“Dear diary.” Corrin bitched.
“Takumi hates me for literally no reason. Wtf even is his problem?!
-Super Triggered.”
“OMG CORRIN! Have you planned for the next battle?” Jakob asked.
“SHUT UP JAKOB, I HAVE PLOT ARMOR!!” Corrin screeched.
Later, Elise fell violently ill and Ryoma refused to let them get medicine, and Corrin yelled at them that they were a jerk despite killing Hoshido’s queen, civilians, and terrorizing their kingdom (also Nohr kinda did the same thing in Birthright to Takumi soooo.. payback?) so they were forced to break a bunch of poisonous pots with only one healer. Then they encountered Takumi again while trying to quell a totally reasonable and expected uprising.
“Wow, dad’s kinda mean. I should just ignore it though.” Corrin remarked.
Hans decided to come and “help” after giving a totally fake apology in which Corrin was immediately like
“Ok, I believe you!”
“Yo.” Takumi said, shooting Corrin with an arrow.
“OH MY GODS THERE’S A PERSON HERE?!” Corrin screeched.
“I’VE BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME, MORON!” Takumi fired back. “I’m literally standing in the dark with a glowing bow!”
“You could have killed me!” Corrin whined, making Takumi face-palm.
“That was the point!”
Then Scarlet showed up.
“Wow, traitor.” Camilla mommy milkers whined.
“Corrin literally did the same thing.” Takumi deadpanned.
“OMG CORRIN!! LEAVE THEM ALONE THEY’RE PERFECT!” Elise simped.
“QUIET NOHRIAN SCUM!” Takumi snapped, firing.
“Wow ok hater. If you’d just have a reasonable discussion, my totally fair ruler of a dad would end this peacefully even though we keep launching unprovoked attacks on you.” Corrin said.
“If I kill all Nohrians, maybe this head pain will go away.” Takumi muttered, and everyone conveniently ignored Takumi’s obvious mental struggles.
Once again, Nohr won. Azura ignored Takumi’s clear signs of possession, Hans went on a killing spree, Corrin weakly protested in which Hans replied
“Nope. Daddy Garon said so.”
“Where’s the justice?!” Corrin gasped stupidly.
“Meh. Idk.” Camilla mommy milkers replied. “But Daddy Garon will kill me if I disobey so just ignore all red flags.”
“Ok, I believe you!” Corrin said.
Later, there was an assassination attempt on Daddy Garon by this songstress who looked and sounded exactly like Azura but totally wasn’t for some reason. After that Azura conveniently showed Corrin a magical crystal that showed them that Daddy Garon was GASP a slime monster!!!
Hm.. should I tell my siblings? Corrin pondered, then started glitching out.
“T-too m-m-much l-logic!”
Nah, let’s just destroy Hoshido and disregard everyone’s feelings. Especially Takumi. Screw that guy.
Corrin’s next “adventures” involved killing some guys for his boots (in the name of peace ofc), almost getting blown up by ninjas while also escorting Saizo through his suicide attacks for one measly speedwing. Corrin also had to take a good look for like an hour or so before using a dragon vein lest their army be cut off.
Then they saved the Hoshidan royals, everyone went OMG CORRIN!! (Except Takumi, who was so reasonably salty by this bs, he threw himself across the table when Hinoka asked him to pass the salt) Elise bullied Sakura, Corrin became a furry killer, Xander got beat up by some wind and a pack of Bolt Naginata using Falcon Knights. Oh, also Lilith died at some point and we’re all supposed to care for some reason.
Then Corrin beat up a small child (aka Sakura) in the name of peace, tied her up, and had her watch a bunch of defenseless soldiers get brutally murdered right before her eyes right after promising peace because Daddy Garon said so. And then at last came the fateful day that inspired this whole tale in the first place. Oh how differently it was going to end today. Because a devilish one-eyed thief paid our favorite second prince of Hoshido a nice visit and left him a nice little present…
“Ow, what the hell are these hard objects?!” Corrin yelped, ripping one out of their bare foot.
They were at the Great Wall of Suzanoh, aka Takumi’s wall of doom. Filled with the frustrated screams of Fire Emblem players alike. And at the very top of the wall stood Takumi in all his silver pineapple-haired glory, Fujin Yumi in hand.
“Your invasion of Hoshido ends now, Corrin!” Takumi yelled. “Everywhere in Hoshido is covered in LEGO. I hope you feel the excruciating pain we felt when you chose Nohr-“
“SCREW THIS! I’M PLAYING BIRTHRIGHT!!” Corrin yelled.
“You’re.. what?” Takumi asked in confusion, then Corrin performed an Emmeryn off the wall.
“…..”
Takumi watched Corrin fall with a neutral look on his face.
“Oh look..”
His expression abruptly shifted.
“..The trash took itself out. ..Wait.”
Then he saw Iago The Douche Bird Mage cackling with delight and fired an arrow, knocking him off the wall too.
“There.” Takumi said, his expression back to normal.
Meanwhile, Hinata was paging curiously through a book a certain daydreamer dropped during the fight.
“..Hey Lord Takumi? Some Nohrian weirdo wrote a romantic story about you and…. Prince Leo?! They called it.. Leokumi?”
“Oh, is that so?” Prince Takumi replied calmly, his hazel gaze shifting to Leo, who was calling Forrest a disgrace and calmly fired another arrow, knocking Leo off the wall too.
“Perfect.”
Then Takumi went to defeat Nohr, married the beautiful Goddess of Fate (named Robyn) then went to live happily ever after.
Niles: Meanwhile in someone else’s Fire Emblem Fates play through~
Happy April Fool’s Day lmao. Real chapter of Redemption will be out Sunday xD

NO MORE THIEVING, YOUNG LADY! — & corrin
it was a knight that entrusted her with word from faerghus.  and at first, mikoto thought nothing of it than a joke.  a humiliating feat that only simmered into realization at the grim expression of her colleague.  now that she remembers the moment, trudging through the thinning snow up to her ankles, the idea of it all is horrid.  though she is optimistic, a bitter emotion swells in the spaces of her mind and chest.  not even the healing light of her staff can numb the feeling of desperation.  how else is a mother to act when word passes of her daughter dragging her reputation through the ground?  and not by disgracing herself with bad mannerisms, but theft and foolery!
her substitute mount, amber, follows after the guidance of her grip on the reins.  the few faculty and students deployed on the missions were far beyond their position.  it’d be out of her jurisdiction to venture into the foreign land without an official mission pledged to her name, but still... she is here. only in the outskirts of the kingdom will she attempt to find a hint of the fool behind her daughter’s fakery.
“   —and she’s a kind lady, i tell you!  have i told you of the time she tripped in a river and was concerned of hurting the fish there instead of the scrape on her knee?   ”   mikoto sighs, a pleasant smile warm on her lips as she recalls the fleeting memory.  amber makes a noise behind her.   “   to think of her stealing from the poor is baffling!  corrin would never dare to. she’d never have the heart to.   ”
snow and dirt crunches beneath hooves and soles.  mikoto opens her mouth to bring forth yet another memory when the reins grow taut in her hand.  a branch snaps and the silence that follows is deafening, immediately torn by amber’s neigh.  dirt is kicked up by the horse’s hooves, reins yanked against impatient tugging.
“   calm yourself, amber!   ”   mikoto exclaims, tightening her grip and raising her hand to beckon her mount’s attention.   “   there is no threat, darling.  be still!   ”   thankfully, the fright had been small.  the panic settles, slowly, but when it does, the sound of footsteps becomes prominent.  hoshidan queen keeps herself from startling, aware of the focus her mount has on her.  slowly, she raises the reins before amber, and kneels to rest them on the ground.  mikoto backs away, once as an experiment, whispering a command of steadiness, before moving around the nearest tree.  a borrowed sword is pulled from the sheathe at her hip.  when she peers back from her hiding place, silver tresses are the first things she spies.
corrin, she realizes grimly.  still, she does not move.  instead, mikoto listens for the voice of the imposter, insistent to hear the bluff of identity on their tongue before moving to intervene.

Birthright in Conquest
Corrin has grown up within an isolated palace in Nohr alongside his younger brother and sister, Leon and Elise.
Leo will soon be making his debut at the main palace, but one night shortly after Corrin's birthday King Garon comes to visit.
King Garon's visits are few and far between, but on this night Corrin is going to be allowed to officially join the court. There had been troubles for years amongst the nobility, and the ongoing conflict with Hoshido, but Corrin was finally going to debut as one of Garon's children to the whole of Nohr.
Leo and Elise are jealous, but happy that their sibling will be free to stand alongside Prince Xander and Princess Camilla.
Everything begins to go wrong on the journey from the Northern Castle to the heart of Nohr, Castle Krakenburg. A group of Hoshido soldiers, seeking to break the seals crafted by King Garon's late wife, Arete, meet the traveling party.
Corrin is recognized and whisked away to Hoshido, where Queen Mikoto greets them as a mother. Corrin's world collapses, but things seem...nice though odd in Castle Shirasagi.
The oldest three royals are cordial, but distant. Ryoma is frequently away from the castle, and Hinoka frequently patrols the borders. Takumi speaks with soldiers that make Corrin's skin crawl.
It all comes to a head when Corrin's dragon is released one sunny day. Mikoto promised them a chance to understand what they are, and then the castle town is in ruins.
A woman singing a mournful song and dancing with water calms them, and with the help of a repentent ninja and the youngest princess, Corrin absconds from Hoshido through a glowing lake.
In the depths of Valla, Corrin learns Azura's name and the about how Anankos has throttled Hoshido. Nohr attempted to fight back years ago with Queen Arete, but she perished and Azura was taken to Hoshido. Corrin was taken in retaliation, and possibly other reasons Azura is unsure of, though she knows Corrin has ties to Valla because Mikoto does.
The destruction of Valla left Mikoto thralled to the fallen dragon Anakos, and with her magic, the royal family has either been thralled or sworn fealty to a new dragon god.
Corrin desperately wants to go home to Nohr, to be with their siblings, but they also can't abandon their newly discovered Hoshido family. How could they live with themselves if they let Hoshido be truly devoured? Their time there was not horrid - and they made tentative friends in the ninja Kaze and the princess Sakura.
Corrin resolves to return to Nohr with Azura, who is nervous to be back in a nation she only remembers pieces of.
There are no lovely reunions, because Hoshido has invaded Nohr and Nohr is putting up a violent resistence.
Corrin manages to get in touch with Elise and her retainers, and after getting in touch with some allies and leaving news for the other siblings that they are alive, but outside of the war effort, the group returns to Valla.
They come across Arete and Sumergai's spirit, and while they are able to fight them off and escape Valla again, Corrin learns the truth of their parentage and of Azura's lineage.
Corrin has a crisis they decide to put off for later - a child of a mad god? That can be dealt with when the world isn't burning.
The group returns to Hoshido, to try and stop and the war and invasion at its...well, human source. They aren't strong enough to take on Anankos himself yet.
Mikoto and Takumi have remained in the palace, and they reject peace. Corrin is forced to kill their mother, and Takumi falls in battle trying to awaken Corrin's feral dragon. They do not have a dragonstone, and thus no real control, but when Takumi falls and Mikoto is dead, Corrin remains human but grieving.
Princess Sakura and her retainers appear, and while it's a bad situation, Sakura knows Corrin was given no choice. They gather more allies in trying to track down other royals in Hoshido - Camilla and Hinoka are fighting at the front lines in Hoshido, and Ryoma is deep in Nohr crossing blades with Xander. Kaze defects and Corrin decides that before anyone else dieds, they neee to take care of Anankos. Just dealing with the human element didn't work, after all.
Before they can return to Valla, Hinoka appears and challenges them to a battle. Kaze is killed defending Corrin, Hinoka is fatally wounded and dragged away by her loyal retainer, Setsuma. Azama defects and joins Corrin's troupe.
Corrin and co dive into the lake at Castle Shiragasi, and plunge into Valla, moments before Leo rides in with a battalion. Prince Xander is dead and Leo is fleeing Prince Ryoma, who vanishes before there is a confrontation at the castle.
Corrin fights through Valla spirits, barely able to keep everyone well and fighting. Several die before they make it to Ryoma. The fight with Ryoma is brutal, and Sakura sacrifices herself to save Corrin and stop Ryoma, but Ryoma is too far gone and deals a near fatal blow to Corrin.
Corrin goes feral, and tears Ryoma apart before separating from the remaining party.
Azura attempts a pursuit, but more Vallite soldiers block the way and delays the party's reunification.
Corrin finds the feral dragon Anankos, and a fight rattles the fallen nation. Anankos should win, but Corrin's allies appear to help.
When Anankos falls, Corrin does not revert to human form. Instead, the power ebbing fron Anankos is absorbed by Corrin and they thrall all within Valla to them.
On the surface, the thralls are released, and the remainint heads of nations begin planning to deal with the lurking threat. They are tattered, but perhaps they can build a strong enough army before Corrin's power grows out of control...
Especially since the thralls may not be so loyal, as Azura uses her Vallite lullaby to frequently lull Corrin to sleep and rest and is, perhaps, trying to free them all.
A sleeping dragon is still a dragon, however.

Check out these earlier drabbles, one for Shadow Dragon and Minerva and Michalis' swapped roles (Macedon's Twist of Fate) and the other for a fractured rescue (Time is Note Linear) of the Awakening timeline!
It's funny how I was originally going to have these be prompts but they became one-shot botes instead haha. I should probably proof before posting but I just finish so here y'all go

Finished Engage. The story is still awful but it had its good moments (Ex. Zephia and Griss’s final scene). However, the other problem is that they crammed everything interesting into the last 5-6 chapters, so it was a ton of character exposition and “I told you my sad backstory, so I am now off to die immediately” flags. There are 26 chapters, excluding DLC and Paralogues.
Honestly, outside of gameplay maps, Three Houses feels like the better game for me. The Engage maps are fun and there are some good mechanics. I don’t think they’re Conquest level maps but they’re still solid. Really enjoyed Griss’s teleporting map and the final battle thematically (even if I think gameplay wise, it’s bland).
However, the Paralogues are an absolute pain because they’re mostly faithful recreations of the originals, and I do enjoy the nostalgia since I’ve played them all, but if it wasn’t fun in the original, it’s not fun here. Horses and Fliers still dominate even if Backup Infantry is very good. It just becomes painful to travel like say, Camilla’s DLC map or Lyn’s Paralogue unless you have high Movement (which is, again, a problem of faithfully recreating maps) and others like Corrin’s are boring even if there’s a gimmick.
Like thematically it makes sense but gameplay? Eh…
And the skill system itself being locked behind Tempest Trials, SP, and post-game is awful. Unless you are on Normal/Hard for Skirmishes to grind/cheesing SP with Great Sacrifice, you’re getting one really good skill or two okay ones at best. They made Tempest Trials worse than FEH’s too because the maps are tedious and you can’t auto easily
Emblems are broken of course, and you can clear Maddening without inheriting skills, but it just feels horrid that key mechanics are locked behind a grindy mode (Crystals) or to post-game (SP books). Not to mention the problem of Emblems being busted.
Like do not use the DLC Emblems or weapons if you want a decently hard game. Camilla breaks the game and I made Dimitri 2 on a flying horse with Alfred (70-105 dmg per round with Pair Up and Canter + forged Spear and forged Fensalir). And Soren is basically broken because he allows for baiting bosses like Lyn does.
Even the base game Emblems are gamebreaking (Ex. Lyn!Kagetsu who can use clones to chokepoint entire areas with dodgetanking).
They give you a lot of tools, but the most fun is early to mid game imo. And Paralogues themselves are way too backloaded. It was a pain to play them.
And the story itself has a lot of cute callbacks but it’s like…the pacing is bad. Really bad. I enjoyed the cast and my favorites were Zephia and Alfred, but this is worse than Three Houses by a large bit (and you generally don’t expect games to backslide on new installments).
And this is very much personal preference but I prefer Three Houses Skill System because it feels like you can actually build units and not just slap Emblems onto them + you’re forced to use new units each route if you don’t recruit. It just feels more thoughtful at times even with Three Houses’s weaknesses.
While Engage returns to the normal formula of chapter recruits, the problem comes in of “why would I use this character if Emblems can patch up earlier ones that are weaker?” It’s a conundrum that makes it not worthwhile to use new ones unless they’re busted (Ex. Soren!Ivy or Micaiah!Hortensia) or you really like them. It’s not the same as with Nino or the other Ests of the series.
And the Somniel mechanics itself…they made the monastery but somehow worse, and I’m someone who liked the monastery. You get 10-20 glowing spots per visit, Arena is 3 sessions that you have to manually choose + can’t skip intro quotes, Sommie Pet and Feed are unskippable scenes (and I love Sommie), mini games will break your thumb even on Normal for the button mashing one, and so forth. Horrid after the novelty wears off.
Really feels like they saw that people liked certain mechanics and ideas from Three Houses and went “yeah let’s shove it in but make it worse.” Lumera just felt like a worse written and less complex Rhea too…
However, you can really feel the love in the game, and it’s a delight for series veterans like me for callbacks even if the gameplay suffers from bizarre decision making and poor story pacing. And some supports like Alfred/Céline are genuinely good imo.
Game is heavily censored though to the point of contrivance as a note. It’s to the point where they censored all of Alear’s age appropriate relationships with other 17-year-olds and left in the adults only as explicit romance. Or how Veyle’s S Support now makes 75% or so of the game’s story and motivations bizarre and even incoherent/weaker.
NOTE: I don’t care about fictional characters’ rights, but it’s funny because you know they were trying to sanitize the game but somehow made it “worse.”
I think Engage is a solid 6.5/10 or 7/10 for me which is not a bad score.
Ultimately, if you want a good story, pick up Three Houses, Tellius duology, or Genealogy. Awakening for a solid, if vanilla, story.
If you want Gameplay, pick up Engage or like Conquest. Three Houses isn’t bad map-wise, it’s just weaker and the fact you have to play the maps at least 4 times to get the full story.

on the topic of fire emblem. favorite and least favorite lord or main character?
!!!!
Favorite lord is a hard question, because I have different answers.
Like, my favorite lord is and will always be Lyn because I played fe7 when I was like 7 y/o and she did irreparable things to my brain that have led to me rotating her in my brain for 20 years straight. I adore her beyond all logic and reason.
Pound for pound I think my actual more objective favorite is micaiah. I have always adored her, I love how she has to try and pick up the pieces in the aftermath of a horrid war, I love how she is stubborn and unflinching. Everything about her story and her design reads like she'd be this soft whimpering #girl character but she's just not like that. Adore her forever. Also she has a bird and [redacted].
My least favorite lord is. Idk. I don't think about this much. These days I am a loooot less negative about fembly games I don't like (except for once as a bit). Like. The real answer is probably corrin, because who could possibly become invested in corrin lol.
Alternatively I could say Sigurd because it's funny to pretend I'm an fe4 hater.

Someone - or something - has been disturbing graves in the monastery’s graveyard. The knights are busy with preparations for the monastery’s defenses, and so patrols to the site have not been a priority. If you have some rare free time, would you bring peace back to these departed souls? Then find the culprit, even if it means having to spend the night surrounded by the dead.
Corrin sighs as he stares at the rows up rows of graves that have been messed up, trying not to let any tears well up in his eyes. It's horrid, that anyone would even think of desecrated such sacred ground. And at a monastery too!
He sniffles, before noticing the sound of nearby rustling. He stands from, dusting off his pants from where he had been kneeling to tidy up one of the many, many destroyed and tipped over gravestones. He walks towards the sound, wondering if whoever was making that sound was the one who was marring the loss of people by disturbing such sacred things as graves!
He groans as he realizes who the other person within the graveyard is. One of Hinoka's... interesting retainers. But was he responsible? As... Azama as he was, Corrin would at least think that he had some propreity around what happened to someone after their death.
"Azama! You better not be the one who has been vandalizing these graves! I would think better of you than that!"

Guys I am sorry, but I’m gonna have to defend prince Charles, sorta.
I’m not condoning anything that he did, he is clearly insecure and is being completely rude to Diana who did not deserve any of that, but I do understand why. It’s established in the show that no one gives a crap about him, he is no one‘s favorite child, his mom straight up told him that no one cares what he thinks or what he has to say. He was sent away for three months to basically mend fences with Wales after getting a part in a play, just to have no reception, no greeting, nothing.
Charles has finally sucked it up and decided to be a prince and this whole tour thing to was supposed to be about him, and everyone hates him. His birthday was supposed to be about him and he is correct, everything thing will be about Diana's dance. Imagine constantly being overlooked your whole life, constantly put down, told that you do not matter as a person and your individuality is not only dissuaded but your family is disgusted by it. it could just be my own personal experience because I’ve often felt overlooked and feel like my voice is not valued to the people in my life. it’s not a fun feeling. though it doesn’t justify shitty behavior, It’s understandable. For once, finally, people will pay attention to him and like him and value him and everyone’s just crapping on Charles. Everyone hates you and you’re stuck with a woman you don’t love, who everyone likes more than you. That does make a person bitter and angry. It’s soul crushing to try so hard, to try to fit and shape yourself into something so just anyone, anyone will care or acknowledge you, just to have someone else do it so easily and have everyone be even more against you.
Diana was young and fell to the pressures of the crown. Charles didn't love her and nothing she'd do would ever be correct. She also wasn't given the opportunity to learn about him because he was closed off.
Every marriage in this family seems to be in shambles.
They took “incest is wincest”to its fullest extreme of not working. Shippers don’t come for me
*small amendment: I would smack Charles over Diana’s gift. The intention was nice at least

really love the idea of azura marrying one of the awakening trio and coming back to ylisse with them bc its like. literally every country in fateslandia treated her like she was less than worthy of literally anything!!! nohr was literally her biggest hater and hoshido, while better, always just kind of reminded her that yeah she was part of the royal family but also like. not really? if takumis treatment of her was any indication, plus the fact that the majority of hoshido was willing to turn on her in conquest just because of corrin is kind of indicative of how they felt toward her. and valla is just like. well anyways so i feel like its reasonable that she wouldnt feel completely at ease anywhere given all of her history and everyones perception of her so giving her a way out now that shes done everything she needs to do just feels so right. giving her a new home where she can put all of her horrid experiences behind her and make a new life just feels so right and i just rrgagrhhja. azura in ylisse!!!!!!

Look, I love the opportunities that Forging Bonds presents in giving us more content and character interactions for our favorite characters. I love seeing characters interacting from different installments, it’s great.
But holy crap, I’m starting to see a negative effect from the Forging Bonds giving us the same character depictions over and over without showing the more interesting aspects of a character.
Like look at poor Balthus. He’s got a hefty amount of lore; a man on the run because his mother was exiled for being a commoner and his step-mother is absolutely horrid. Even though his manners are loose, his code of honor is unbreakable and he refuses any kind of compensation for trying to do a good deed from the heart. He’d probably have some really good conversations with characters like Corrin, Saber, Jesse (IF HE EVER GETS ADDED), Joshua, etc. He’s crass and loud and rambunctious but he’s a genuine sweetheart who protects the people he cares about, and he cares about a LOT of people.
Instead all we get is “haha funny gambling man gets slapped around by everyone” (Don’t think I forgot about that Malice Forging Bonds, IS. See if people would still be laughing if a male character grabbed a female character by the ear and twisted their neck in doing so). And it’s not just Balthus, all the subplots with the Heavy Plate Corps and the CHOP stuff (or Team Horny, with everyone like Laslow, Soleil, Gatrie, etc), while I get it’s there for comedy, really end up shoehorning these characters into perpetual comic relief. I’m scared for when characters like Vaike or Jesse (SERIOUSLY IS, I GET THAT YOU’RE RUNNING OUT OF VALENTIA CHARACTERS BUT. JESSE.) get added that we won’t see any kind of meaningful dialogue with other characters. It seems like they reserve the best interactions for fan-favorites only.

Drive in- Cormac Hyde Corrin
Tumblr media
Fic type: Fluff
TW: none!!
AN: i’ve always wanted to go one a drive in date, and never got a chance too so here is this, also vv obsessed with the new top gun movie so there’s also that
“I’m glad you decided to come to America with me mac” Y/n said, piling blankets and pillows into the back of her dads truck. Cormac smiled, handing her the tub of food that they packed. “i loved meeting your parents, America is great besides all the horrible stuff” he said, laughing
“Now i can show you the American drive in, one of our treasures” she smirks, covering the snack bag with her giant pile of blankets
“we have drive ins in the UK y/n” cormac told her, handing her the air mattress she asked for earlier.
y/n laughed “not like this you don’t” she said, taking the air mattress out of his hands, and blowing it up. “arnt we just staying in the car?” Cormac asked, causing y/n to scoff. “who does that?” she said, putting the mattress in the bed of the truck.
“toss me the straps babe” she said, hopping onto the back of the bed. “okay?” he tossed her the straps, which she caught, bending over to strap them to the truck
“i love me a woman who knows what she’s doing” he tapped her calf twice, just like she does to him before she gets out of bed. she laughed, finishing the straps on the truck and hopping down, slamming the latch shut.
“I’m driving brit boy” she said, jumping into the truck. he groaned, hating her reckless driving but also hating that Americans drove on the wrong side of the road. “wanna go straight there or stop and get more snacks? we’ll get popcorn at the consession” Cormac looked at her as she put the car in drive, and pulled out of the driveway.
“Your insane if you think i’m paying for snacks there” he laughed. “Americans are insane with their money saving” he said, grabbing her hand that rested on the gear shift if her automatic, because she hated the stick behind the wheel.
Y/n drove them to the drive in, with many shrieks of terror from Cormac. “Two adults” she smiled to the lady in the booth. “any outside food?” the lady asked, obviously eyeing Cormac. “No ma’am” Y/n smiled, knowing Cormac is a terrible layer, despite being an actor.
“I can see one snack” she winked, handing him the tickets. “Yeah i can too” he spoke, putting his hand on Y/ns thigh, smacking it twice like he did earlier.
The woman scoffed, slamming the window shut. Cormac laughed as Y/n drove into the Drive in. Immediately Cormac spotted children running and screaming, people sitting on top of their cars, a game of kickball being played in the grass in the back, and even some people playing bad mitton.
“Arnt they here to watch the movie?” he asked. Y/n parked next to abunch of trucks with the same idea as her. she pulled in so the back of the truck was facing the screen. As she got out of the truck, she opened the back door and got the Blankets out
“Mac, unstrap the mattress please” He nodded, doing as told. When he was finished, she threw her comforter on the mattress and tucked it in, throwing the pillows on and laying down the other blankets. Lastly, she put the snack tub next to the mattress and smiled.
Cormac smiled. “this is a good idea” he said, and she nodded “told you. British people should step it up” he laughed, crawling onto the mattress next to her.
They had just watched the first topgun movie last night, because Cormac had never seen it. “do you think someone’s going to die?” he asked, she shook her head. “don’t even suggest something so horrid.” he laughed, wrapping his arm around her as they cuddled against the mattress.
about an hour into the movie, y/n could not stop gushing over rooster. She had tears down her cheeks and was cuddled into Cormacs shoulder
“i love him so much” she sobbed, “he’s so hot” Cormac shifted with a huff. “are you jealous?” y/n smirked, tears still in her eyes.
“of a guy with a porn stash? nope.” He was obviously lying. “mac, he’s a twenty something year old man, in a movie, yeah miles teller is hot too but definitely doesn’t know who i am” she laughed, kissing Cormacs cheek.
“And your pretty adorable yourself” she said, kissing his lips quickly
“Yeah i guess you are too”
