Nintendo Switch Weekly Round-Up for the Week Ending October 26th, 2024
Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the Nintendo Switch Weekly Round-Up for the week ending October 26th, 2024. This week is absolutely bonkers, with the number of interesting releases on Thursday alone exceeding the limit for screenshots in a single post on this site. I had to choose to either cut a bunch of games or give them short summaries with no screens, and I've opted for the latter. Not much else I can do. Anyway, let's check out this week in the world of Switch!
Featured New Releases
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven ($49.99)
Square Enix's spiffy remake of Romancing SaGa 2 is here, and it seems to be a lot easier for a new player to get into than even the reissue from several years back. That said, this is still a SaGa game. If you're expecting something conventional, you're going to be disappointed. This one's for the people chasing a different flavor of RPG.
Sonic X Shadow Generations ($49.99)
One of the few 3D Sonic games that didn't get a good kicking back in the day returns with some new old stages featuring Sonic's Venom, Shadow. The word has been very good about this remake on other platforms, but SEGA not giving review codes for the Switch version is⌠somewhat concerning. Someone is going to jump on this, and I'd wait for that someone to report before buying on this platform if I were you.
Yakuza Kiwami ($19.99)
This one on the other hand I can fully vouch for. Yes, there are better looking and performing versions of this game, but this is a more than acceptable way to play Yakuza Kiwami on the go. It reminds me of the PlayStation 3 version. If you're new to the Yakuza series, you're in luck. This is a remake of the first game, so you don't need any prior story knowledge. And it's pretty awesome, even if it isn't necessarily the best game in the series. I reviewed it on the TouchArcade Patreon, so do check that out.
Ys X: Nordics ($59.99)
Urgh, too many good games aimed at my interests today. This is the latest Ys release, and this time around Falcom handled development of the Switch version itself. The result is a game that actually runs better than the previous games despite being technically more demanding. This is another great installment in the series, and one that seems to be going over better with people who didn't care for Ys IX.
The Smurfs - Dreams ($39.99)
I've had a startling revelation since receiving my review copy of The Smurfs - Dreams. The Smurfs platformers from Microids kind of rule. The first two have an exploratory Mario 3D platformer vibe, and this one here? It's like Mario 3D World. It's not quite as good, but it's more than good enough to recommend. The worst thing I can say about it is that it's a bit easy, but if you don't mind that then I can heartily recommend this. I reviewed this on the TouchArcade Patreon too, and here's that link.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake ($59.99)
Lots of remakes this week, eh? Here's Koei Tecmo's pitch for your gaming dollars, and it smells a lot like a giant strategy game that will eat dozens if not hundreds of hours of your time if you get into it. That's a big if, because this game is only slightly less difficult to sort out as a new player than the original game was. Lots of new elements here, and of course the presentation has been fully redone.
Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town ($39.99)
After the Kaz Ayabe-led Shin-chan game from a couple of years ago scored a decent hit, it was practically inevitable that a follow-up would arrive. This game follows a similar template to the previous one, following Shin-chan on a summer vacation-style adventure. There are interesting side-quests to tackle and one big, curious mystery to solve. Kaz Ayabe wasn't involved with this one and it shows to an extent, but I think this still merits checking out if you enjoyed the last one. Look for my review on TouchArcade's Patreon next week.
Card-en-Ciel ($24.99)
While it's true Inti Creates used to work on the Mega Man series, it did not work on the Mega Man Battle Network series. That isn't stopping the developer from taking its own swing on the concept, and you know what? That's cool. I don't mind seeing more games like that, in principle. In practice, this one feels more committed to the idea than in trying to be its own worthwhile game, and I think that's where it differs from the also homage-tastic Gunvolt. The story is not very interesting, and while the gameplay certainly feels similar to Battle Network, it all feels a little hollow. Not bad, but not up to the series it draws inspiration from.
Botworld Odyssey ($25.00)
Explore an open world, find and build new bots, and engage in tactical real-time battles as you try to become the very best, like no one ever was. If you like your creature collectors and don't mind if they come in metal, you'll want to give this one a closer look. It's a good time.
Slay the Princess - The Pristine Cut ($17.99)
An interesting one, this. You've been sent to kill a princess. If you fail, the world will be doomed. She is going to try to persuade you to spare her. She is a liar. Be very careful what you say and do, because if you give her the slightest chance things will go pear-shaped very quickly. This Pristine Cut adds a ton of new stuff to the game, to the point that if you've only played the regular edition I think it might be worth the double dip.
Wildermyth: Console Edition ($24.99)
This is a story-driven tactical turn-based RPG, and it's very good. It aims to evoke a tabletop RPG theme, and despite using procedurally-generated bits and bobs, it manages to make you care about all of it. It's quite beloved on other platforms and I'm very sure Switch owners are going to take to it just as well. The battle system isn't anything fancy, but it doesn't have to be to get this game where it's going. Highly recommended.
Care Bears: To The Rescue ($14.99)
Who's that coming from somewhere up in the sky? Moving fast and bright as a firefly? Right, that's the old cartoon. This one is based on the new one. Well, the important thing is that this is a Care Bears platformer for up to four players simultaneously. You have to collect Caring Energy to power up your Zorlon Cannon and destroy the Quotile. Wait, no. That's Yars' Revenge. You need to fill up your Heart Cannons and destroy the Bad Seed in this one. All you have to defend yourself with is your kindness, and a belly-beam you can use to blast your enemies with caring. I'm going to review this one, and that should be fun.
Potionomics: Masterwork Edition ($29.99)
This game has done its tour on other platforms, where it has earned plenty of acclaim from critics and players. It's a shop simulation game where you're making and selling potions to try to dig yourself out of debt and eventually make some money. There is a lot going on in this game, so don't come into it with too much of a relaxed attitude. Indeed, it's almost a little stressful. Is that good or bad? It depends on your expectations, I suppose. This game scratches a particular itch, though it isn't the one you might think at first glance.
Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure ($19.99)
Holy smokes, it finally came out. Way back when the Switch was new, Atooi released a charming little platformer on the 3DS called Chicken Wiggle. It starred a cute little chicken who used a worm to grapple around the levels. Atooi wanted to bring it to the Switch, and did a Kickstarter to get the necessary funds. Around a half-decade later, here we are. To be fair, this is so different from Chicken Wiggle that it comes off as a new game entirely. A better game? Hm. I'll need to spend more time with it to say for sure.
Rogue Flight ($19.99)
If you've been waiting around for a new Star Fox game, I'm sorry to say that Nintendo probably isn't going to be cooking up one for a while. But you know what? Rogue Flight scratches that itch. It's a very, very good arcade-style behind-the-ship shooter that pays heavy homage to classic Japanese anime. While this Switch version isn't as pretty as some of the other ones, it carries itself very well. A solid pick-up if you like this kind of thing.
Fear the Spotlight ($19.99)
It's that Halloween season, and if there's ever a time where the scary games shine, it's now. Fear the Spotlight is a survival-horror game that throws back to the PlayStation 1, which is the style of our time. Solve puzzles! Look around! Watch out for the bad things! Not what I'm into, but those who do enjoy these seem to be warm on this.
Arcade Archives Metamorphic Force ($7.99)
Oh wow, I've been waiting a long time for this to pop up. This is Konami's excellent 1993 belt-scrolling beat 'em up. It has terrific visuals and is about as advanced as a Konami arcade brawler got. Up to four can play, locally of course. If you like this genre, this is definitely worth adding to your collection.
The Rocky Horror Show Video Game ($9.99)
We've got a whole thing going on lately with old properties being shoehorned into a 2d platforming framework, it seems. This one comes from FreakZone Games, who you might remember from the Angry Video Game Nerd games or Manos: The Hands of Fate. Set your expectations appropriately. At the very least, you get some spiffy chiptune versions of the tunes from the musical. I have to believe there are better ways to serve this property, but I won't begrudge FreakZone for doing what it knows how to do.
SINce Memories: Off The Starry Sky ($39.99)
Set ten years after the events of the original Memories Off visual novel series, this spin-off features a new cast of characters and more or less stands alone. Junya Mizumoto is grieving his late brother, who died in an accident one year earlier. He meets a mysterious girl who says that she should have been the one to die. She quickly disappears, leaving Mizumoto to try to figure out what she's on about. But he has a job to do, renovating a traditional Japanese house with his childhood friend, and I'm sure these two plot points won't dovetail at all. No sir. This is the first game in the series with an official localization, and I wish I could say it lives up to the quality of its predecessors, but it fell a little flat for me. Maybe you'll like it more.
The World of Kungfu: Dragon and Eagle ($17.99)
A Wuxia RPG? Sure, why not. That sounds cool. This is a fairly traditional RPG in structure, so expect lots of exploring, town visits, and turn-based battles. But you get to use kung fu, and that makes it all a little cooler. The battles here are similar to a tactical RPG in some ways, so that's interesting. Reviews over on Steam are all over the place, but it does appear to have its fans.
Stilt Fella ($12.99)
A silly physics-based game where you're walking on stilts through more than fifty levels. You know, one of those games where walking properly is the challenge. These can be fun if you're in the right mood, and this is a pretty well-done take on the concept.
The Jackbox Survey Scramble ($9.99)
The latest Jackbox game, this time focusing on a Family Feud-esque challenge of trying to guess the most popular survey results for various questions. Things like cat names, what is bad to touch, dating red flags, and so on. You'll naturally want to play this with others, and as usual each player will need their own mobile device to play with.
Stickin' the Landing ($7.99)
This is a cute little puzzler where you have to place stickers to guide a rocket to its goal. The stickers will have some gravitational pull, you see. Stick them just right and the rocket will be able to get where it needs to go. I like it.
Voidwrought ($19.99)
A Metroidvania-style game that deals with cosmic horror. Yes, this is going to draw on a lot of elements from that game, and no, it doesn't do things as well as that game. Lots of spongy enemies, and there's a certain weight to the character that takes getting used to. Not bad, and I would say that its running time of under ten hours makes it appealing to me in a world of Metroidvania games that take twenty-plus hours to complete.
Soul Stalker ($7.49)
Here's another Vampire Survivors-style game, this one with a visual style that uses flat characters. It's fine as these sorts of things go. I've played worse, I've played better, and I'm probably going to recommend saving your money for the Vampire Survivors Castlevania DLC next week. Yes, that's what I'm going to do.
Kingsgrave ($9.99)
This action-adventure game sees you as a king who is trying to restore his ruined kingdom after being awoken from a long slumber. It has a Metroid-ish lock-and-key design, where you'll earn new abilities that will give you access to areas you couldn't reach before. You earn these new abilities by freeing your subjects and helping them out with their requests, which typically involve gathering materials. The combat's clunky and it's bit grindy for its own good, but there's something here worth poking at.
Cute Bite ($14.99)
Essentially what we have here is Princess Maker: Vampire Edition. You're in charge of raising a vampire girl into a fine vampire adult. What vampire future waits for her? Vampire celebrity? Vampire superhero? Vampire overlord? You'll plan her schedule and manage her skills to try to lead her to whatever outcome you think is best. That outcome may or may not involve punching bears.
dotAGE ($17.59)
That's an amusing pun with the title. It's a roguelite but the reason each run is different is that it's a story being told by an old fellow whose memory isn't so hot. He remembers more details over time, unlocking more things. It's a city builder sort of thing, with an emphasis on worker placement. You'll also have to deal with various calamities that come your way due to the impending apocalypse. Well, these things happen.
While We Wait Here ($4.99)
It's the end of the world, and you're working at a diner in a mountainside town. With nothing to do but wait for the end, how will you spend the final hours? Serve the customers and try to maintain normality? Try to encourage people to take shelter? This is a really neat concept for a game. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'm definitely going to.
MiniGhost ($3.99)
An affordable little Metroidvania-style game that is trying to evoke the look and feel of an MSX game. I'll leave it up to the reader to decide how successfully it does that. There are one hundred rooms to explore, four bosses to battle, and twenty-four collectable items. It's quite brief and is upfront about only taking a couple of hours to complete. It's a prequel to Ghost 1.0, so if you liked that game then you'll definitely want to check this out.
OnePunch ($4.99)
This looks like one of those simple mobile games you'd pick up and play for a weekend, delete on Monday, and never think about again. Two buttons here, so it's as simple as can be. Just land those single punches on the sandbags, and it might be okay. Lots of unlockable skins that you'll need to grind for ages to unlock. You'll almost certainly be bored before getting them all.
Orange Season ($29.99)
You want another game like Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons, here's another game like that. It has a few twists, but nothing too dramatic. Still, for a game from a rather small developer, it has most of its t's crossed and i's dotted.
The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication ($24.99)
Another spooky port to the Switch, one that got decent reviews elsewhere and will likely earn the same here. As with its predecessor, this is based on a popular movie and tells some proper scary Taiwanese ghost stories. Solve puzzles, gather clues, and try not to die.
Crash Puzzle Hammer-San ($9.99)
This is an action-puzzle game with three hundred stages and an editor so you can make and share your own. You play as a character with a hammer, and you'll use that hammer to do what needs to be done in order to reach the goal. A demo is available, so you can give it a try if you're interested.
EGGCONSOLE Murder Club PC-8801 ($6.49)
Really not much to say here. This is an adventure game, and like other EGGCONSOLE releases, it's being put out in its original form. That means all Japanese text in this case, and in this genre that means you might as well not bother unless you can read the language. Oh well.
Pixel Game Maker Series Chrotopia ($5.99)
This game presents a world of black and white, where the main character is searching for their missing sister. You get some adventure-style scenes where you're going around the town talking to people, and some action scenes that are a little on the clunky side. I didn't get much out of it, personally.
The Cheese Chase: Pizza Madness ($14.99)
This is a game about trying to deliver pizzas while hungry folk try to swipe them from you. It doesn't look very fancy at all, but the concept might be silly enough for some people to want to give it a try.
That's all for this week, friends. We'll be back next Saturday with another Round-Up as we finish up October and step into November. It's going to be a big month, especially if you like RPGs. And who doesn't? As ever, I will plug both my Patreon (where you can find lots of cool exclusive articles) and my Ko-Fi (tips help me run this blog). There, plugged. I hope you have a super Saturday, and as always, thanks for reading!

Forspoken PC Patch Doesnât Really Fix Anything
The most recent Forspoken Steam patch adds a few modest enhancements and quality-of-life changes, but many of the major technical problems are still there. Forspoken players continue to experience issues with stuttering, lighting and shadow effects, and texture details. Forspokenâs previous update, 1.002, was intended to fix minor issues relating to localisation, in-game spelling errors, and issues with the gameâs HDR mode. However, players reported that, after installing 1.002, they were experiencing more-regular crashes and stuttering problems. A new Fospoken patch, 1.03, also addresses some of the gameâs minor problems including unintended audio in some sections, issues with controller support, and âa crash that can occur when using a specific GPUâ though the patch notes donât specify which GPU. Although these fixes are welcome, this leaves a variety of Forspokenâs technical issues still unaddressed. Using an RX580 graphics card can reportedly cause Forspoken to repeatedly crash and there have been problems with Forspokenâs frame-rate even when running the game at lower graphics settings. The latest update may help with the latter of these issues however, since it also reduces the number of on-screen NPCs when Forspokenâs model detail level is set to âlow.â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l06UYJftnPc The patch also fixes screen flickering problems when using âcertain Intel GPUsâ and alters the size of the UI when playing Forspoken via Steam Deck. The update will download automatically when you launch Steam, but you might want to try our guide to the best Forspoken settings if youâre still experiencing technical problems. You can see the full patch notes below: Forspoken 1.03 patch notes Technical Issues: - Fixed an issue where the side button setting canât be deleted for the 5-button mouse config. - Fixed a crash that can occur when using a specific GPU. - Fixed an issue where screen flickers occur when using certain Intel GPUs. - Fixed an audio issue that caused unintended noise. - The UI display size has been adjusted for the Steam Deck when the resolution is set to 1280 x 800. - Various minor fixes. Graphical Adjustments: - Updated the graphical settings to cap the number of displayed NPCs when the Model Detail Level is set to Low - Updated certain objectsâ graphics that appear in the New York map. Feature Updates: - The system has been updated to accept the button inputs from the controller that is used even when multiple controllers are connected to the PC. - The patch version will be displayed on the gameâs title screen. The clickable area for each menuâs entries has been widened for mouse inputs. As well as Forspoken, you might want to check out some of the other best new games available now. Big Square Enix fan? Check out the best fantasy games, or perhaps the best MMOs on PC. it's a JRPG đ
of course it's pretty simple, it's about as complex as HSR, but without equipment and there's a defend button (so FF brave exvius without equipment)
but I was surprised I was expecting another card game lmaoooo
so far the gameplay is pretty much pressing a singular button (I think it would've benefited from having base attack, skill, and then the burst like in HSR, it'd basically be staple JRPG mechanics) but the game plan might change with the difficulty
I have 2 major complaints which one is the fact that the optimization is atrocious, I can play for about 10-30 minutes before the game starts lagging and then inevitably crashes
my phone could run ZZZ for 2-3 hours before it'd start lagging and only crashed a singular time, and I don't think this game with these graphics should use more power than 3D games like ZZZ, Genshin, Shining Nikki, or Life Makeover
the other complaint is this thing:
now what the hell is this? it's clearly meant to be a fox, from the yiip yiip thing to the name being literally vulpix but not actually
but why does it look like that? that does not look like a fox
if I separate it maybe the anatomy of the body and the ears could pass as a fennec fox, but the rest? that's a cat
that's just a cat with big ears
(this is not really a real complaint and more me, whose entire persona is foxes, being "?????" at this thing)
anyways, tumblr isn't letting me insert videos but it's insane that apparently the romanceable characters have character themes đ
no joke the first actual romantic interest just appeared in the main story and HE'S GOT A WHOLE ASS IDOL SONG PLAYING đđ
story is pretty interesting though! I'd be enjoying myself more if it didn't crash so much!
also here's the guys that have my attention so far (I haven't met them yet)
the wolf guy I'm on the fence because I opened that character preview and he sounds like he's going to be portrayed as "stupid animalistic indigenous man with a speech impediment"
which is not a trope I really like, it makes me uncomfortable as someone who struggles with talking (in general characters with speech impediments are a huge hit or miss with me)
however for all I know he could be really smart and sensible, there ARE good ways to write a character like this, I just don't have huge hopes for the eroge to be the one yk
aside from those there's this one
not my type but certainly someone's type, they're very pretty
I want to draw sampo in their clothes now
that's all I've got to report for now,,, I'll give it a few days, if I get tired of the crashes I'll uninstall
also, I know it's 100% an optimization thing because this game is like 500mbs, it is NOT heavy at all, it's lighter than Pokemon Cafe Mix đ (A PUZZLE GAME)
I want to like it so bad because I'm tired of boring games "for women", I wish BL and otome games weren't just mostly boring taptaptap games or rhythm games
nucarni has a more fun gameplay style but is weighted down by the choice of grinding for 30 days every day to level up your cards vs spending real life money to upgrade them
my favorite mobile games are Shining Nikki, Octopath Traveler, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius War of the Visions (legit modern Final Fantasy Tactics), HSR, and Pokemon Unite đ
legit well made games and fun, but unfortunately only one of them is made for a female/queer audience, and it's the fashion game because of course it is đ
this made me remember of how Square Enix absolutely fumbled the bag with their idol game
it's SQUARE ENIX but they didn't have the balls to make an idol JRPG, only the characters were JRPG/dnd based but the gameplay had nothing to do with it, it was extremely boring and didn't go anywhere at all because of it
pleaseee Noctilucent fix ur game,,,
they did it boys, they got me
#i should probs tag these so y'all can mute it if you dont care about my opinions on things lol#uhhhh#3 foxes in a trench coat reviews#thats going to be my âautism complaints and praisesâ tag

Marvelâs Avengers is a premium priced game with microtransactions and battle passes per character that are 10 bucks each, alongside special skins for clients of Verizon and other companies, while the game itself runs terribly in the beta. Square Enix seems to ignore all of this and tries to convince us the monetization system theyâve implemented is âfairâ.Â
Ubisoftâs been ignoring reports of sexual harassment and abuse for YEARS. The culprits were not even fired, but given the chance to resign honorably. Meanwhile they claim their games are not political, while also using BLM imagery in their latest gameâs trailer while the movement has been exceptionally present in mainstream media the past few months.
Activision-Blizzard has fired over 200 people after a record breaking year in which their new CFO got a starting bonus of 15 million dollars, their CEO makes more than 40 million dollars a year and its staff gets paid so horribly that they canât even afford lunch in their own cafeteria.
EAâs been recycling the same sports games with the same bugs, glitches and content each year while charging the same price for it. Theyâre refusing to acknowledge the ultimate team modes in these games as gambling, while the number of stories this year about how many people have gotten addicted to buying FIFA card packs have only been growing.
EA, Activision and 2K are going to charge for upgrades for next-gen if you buy a current-gen copy while Microsoft has created a system on Xbox Series X specifically so that publishers wouldnât have to charge extra (CDPR is not charging for a next-gen version of CP2077 for example), even though most of the changes will only include performance upgrades. Basically itâs if like youâre playing on PC and theyâre charging you for a higher performance setting.
This is only a summary of what has been happening in the past 8 months. Triple A games are no longer games designed to be games, but money-making machines dressed up as games. Games are designed around monetization, creativity is no longer the standard in this landscape. And honestly, Iâm so fucking tired of it.Â
#the sjws aren't destroying your games it's the capitalism#and don't even get me STARTED on epic games#and the shit they're pulling with this apple lawsuit#don't get me wrong i hate both companies but i could make an entire article on that one

Final Fantasy IX Fan Remake Is The Best Looking Game Youâll Never Play
Final Fantasy VII is one of the most successful RPGs of all time. As a result, the game has received various spin-offs, a feature-length movie and even a full-blown remake. However, fans would argue that their favorite in the series is the best, none of the other Final Fantasy games have received the same treatment as VII. Thanks to a new fan project, Final Fantasy IX is next in line for a remake. The catch? Itâs not actually playable.
Of course, the project is still in the early stages of development. However, the screenshots currently available on the Final Fantasy IX: Memoria is pretty impressive. As youâd perhaps expect, the Memoria teamâs take on a Final Fantasy IX remake is aesthetically different from Squareâs original game.
While the Memoria team has opted for a bold, animated aesthetic, the original game features elaborate pre-rendered backdrops that almost look like watercolour paintings. This same style has also since been adopted by Square Enixâs Bravely Default series, which features visuals that are heavily inspired by Final Fantasyâs 32-bit era. Nevertheless, Final Fantasy IX: Memoriaâs work is still stunning and would make for a gorgeous remake.
Who knows, perhaps the Memoria Project will inspire Square Enix to make its own Final Fantasy IX Remake. Earlier this week, reports emerged that a new animated series based on the RPG could be on the cards. Therefore, Final Fantasy IX could be at the forefront of Square Enixâs future RPG plans. Failing that, at least the Memoria project will help keep the spirit of the ninth game alive.
For more information on Final Fantasy IX: Memoria, visit the projects official website. You can also keep up with the projectâs progress via Twitter.

Microsoft, Sony bringing Ads to Free-To-Play Games, Nintendo gets hit with Labour Lawsuit, Sega to make Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio Live Service Games!
Corporations continue to Corporate, as Nintendo is hit with a Labour Lawsuit that has potentially opened the flood gates for issues within Nintendo. Microsoft and Sony are set to debut live service advertisements directly into video games. Sega confuses fans with the announcement of older IPs returning in the form of Live service games modelled after Fortnite. Several significant games head multiplatform, get more release dates, and Game Boy Emulators for the Switch leaks.
Hey thanks for reading, if there is a game, or just something more in the games space you want me to cover, or report on, please let me know using this Google Form. Thank you.
đšď¸ The Console War Rages On
Square Enix to make 'Play-To-Earn' games - Yosuke Matsuda, Square Enix's President, continued to stoke the flames of NFTs, as he has continued to advocate for NFTs in Square Enix's properties openly. A new interview details his desire to make 'Play to earn' blockchain games. He mentions allowing users to create content in the game and then attaining rewards for that effort using technologies like Blockchain. (Source)
Nintendo accused of interfering with workers' rights - A worker has stated that Nintendo of America and the global hiring firm Aston Carter has infringed on their protected legal rights as a worker. The accusations could include surveillance claims, threats, retaliation and layoff or refusal to hire. The current charges on the filing were left intentionally broad. The investigation is ongoing. UPDATE: Nintendo has responded, stating that the disgruntled employee was fired due to leaking confidential information and not for attempting to unionise. @StephenTotilo has said that many have since reached out to him regarding Nintendo of America since the story broke. He continues that there is more to hear about Nintendo of America and possibly Nintendo Japan issues. Â (Source)
Microsoft to launch advertising network for 'Free-To-Play' games - Microsoft has reportedly been working with and looking to work with advertising technology companies to allow brands and advertisers to buy and place ads in free-to-play game titles. The report noted that the ads could come in the form of Billboards in open-world games. There isn't much other information about how the as could play out. (Source)
Sony also set to debut advertisements in their free-to-play titles - Earlier in the week, Microsoft announced intent for new advertising tech to be integrated into their Xbox free to play properties. Now, Sony is set to do the same. Sony's goal is to give developers a way to monetise their free to play titles. Additional information was revealed, which indicates that Sony will also be considering what much of what Microsoft is for the other parts of the advertisements. (Source)
Sega set to reboot Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio into live service games - A new report from Bloomberg states that Sega is planning to reboot Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio following the Fornite model as part of their "Super Game" project. Development on the game is still "two to three years" away, although the game has been in development for over a year already. (Source)
No More Heroes III will go multiplatform later this year - After launching on Nintendo Switch last year, No More Heroes III will finally make its way onto PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC later this year. It seems to be launching with a box set as well. (Twitter)
Shin Megami Tensei V sells one million units. Since launching on Nintendo Switch in November 2021, the game has officially sold one million units making it the best selling game in the franchise. (Twitter)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gets a collectors edition - TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection LE Collectors set shown off by Konami. It will feature original box art, a cloth poster, an Acrylic diorama, an enamel pin set, 12 tournament fighters cards, and a 180-page art book. (Twitter) Â
Gameboy and Gameboy Advance emulators for Nintendo Switch have leaked - A thread on 4chan dumped the in-development emulators that are meant to be released for the Nintendo Switch Online service. Users were able to install the emulators on hacked Switches or devkits. The GBA emulator is Sloop, and the GB/C emulator is Hiyoko. It seems that Nintendo Europe R&D. is developing the emulators. Another point brought up was that these leaks have come up from a Switch development kit and not from Nintendo's servers. (Twitter)
Digimon Survive gets a launch date on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC - A Japanese magazine has revealed the launch date and price for Digimon Survive for Japan. The game is set for release in Japan on 28th July 2022 for 6980 yen. A few days after this was released, the game producer announced in a YouTube video the Worldwide release. The game is set for 29th July 2022 across PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch. Â (Source, Update, YouTube Announcement)
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gets a new release date - Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gets its release date pushed up to 29th July 2022. The game will launch with a special box edition which will include a steel-book case and an art book via the My Nintendo Store. (YouTube Announcement)
Sonic Origins gets a release date - Sonic Origins will be released on 23rd June 2022. The collection will contain Sonic The Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. The games have been digitally remastered. However, the game is marred by the seemingly complex Pre-order bonus chart. Sega has decided to place things as simple as Character Animations in the main menu behind an additional "Premium Fun Pack". Hard missions as well are only part of this pack. This led to Devolver Digital making fun of the chart on Twitter. (Homepage, Devolver Digital Twitter)

Xbox Game Pass announces new games for the second half of April. More games from Ubisoft are also set to arrive on the service. (Source)
Gamefly has a pretty big sale on pre-played games called the Pre-Play Sale. (Source)
đŽ Where's My Controller?
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is getting a new release date, so I've decided to play the original two games. So there is that.
I've put down Ghostwire: Tokyo, but I want to complete it. My job search continues to take up a lot of my free time.

Nothing is more legendary than the impossible to play "U.N Owen was her". The original piece from the Touhou game franchise continues to be an absolute trip across its run time. I implore you to look into the other songs from the Touhou franchise. (YouTube)
đI don't know what a pen looks like.

ăăă - Japanâs #1 games, 1990
[A recurring feature each time I complete a year in the UK, in which I catch up with the games to have been #1 in the archived Japanese sales charts of that year, as reported in Famitsu. Thanks to Game Data Library for running the resource that makes finding these out easy.]
1990 brings some more data, lots of RPGs and eventually the debut of the Super Famicom to take us into the 16-bit era. Still no sign of anything but Nintendo domination in terms of what machines all the games were played on.
éçĺĄĺŁŤ SaăťGa / Warrior in the Tower of the Spirit World: SaGa (Square,  Game Boy)
Square decided to branch out from their big name series Final Fantasy and make a new RPG, taking advantage of the Game Boyâs capabilities (the first thing after starting it that hit me was how incredible the music sounds next to most of the home computer games Iâve been playing). In a neat summary of different approaches to Japanese RPGs elsewhere, for the US it was cautiously renamed as The Final Fantasy Legend, while in the UK it just wasnât released.
ăăŠă´ăłăŻă¨ăšăIV ĺ°ăăăč
ă㥠/ Dragon Quest IV: The Guided Ones (Enix, Famicom)
The biggest game series around carries on rolling...
Final Fantasy III (Square, Famicom)
...and is directly replaced at the top of the chart by its big rival in April.
Dr. Mario (Nintendo, Famicom)
Dr. Mario involves dropping and rotating objects, but isnât quite Tetris. Nonetheless, itâs clearly enough in its slipstream that a surprise to me that it was the Famicom version and not the Game Boy one that was the more successful right away. I guess itâs just that more people had Famicoms.
Famista (Namco, Game Boy)
Regular Famista updates show no sign of slowing down, with the ability to play an existing popular game on the move proving unsurprisingly popular.
ăăŠă´ăłăăźăŤďźş 埡ăă
ă輲ăă
ăďź ăľă¤ă¤äşşăă / Dragon Ball Z: The Assault! The People of the Saiya (Bandai, Famicom)
Another card-based DBZ game, but with much more impressive animations.
F1 Race (Nintendo, Game Boy)
The lifelikeness is less than that of Family Circuit in 1988, but itâs more straightforwardly fun to be able to see more of the road ahead.
Super Mario World (Nintendo, Super Famicom)
A new era begins, with Nintendo getting the successor console to the Famicom out in Japan before the end of 1990. I remember the hype when it eventually made it here, for hundreds (thousands?) of colours and the dazzling video of this game, although it would be more than a decade before Iâd encounter it again.

serious sam 4
wonderful 101 switch port
ace combat 7
quake champions release date
EA: it was fucking nothing
Microsoft: had arguably the best showing this year solely because of the sheer amount of multiplatform games shown off. the DMC5 reveal stole it for me, and i was never bored between games that much. lots of neat stuff throughout the conference. what the fuck is halo infinite. why did anyone think a funko pop gear mobile game was something anyone wanted. it was at the very least entertaining.
Bethesda: i came for one thing and one thing only: a sequel to new doom. they show me doom eternal. i am satisfied. besides that, bethesda had a neat lineup. the andrew wk thing was fucking hilarious. getting deets for fallout 76 was good, the TES phone mobile game is at the very least interesting. iâm still not interested in rage 2, but iâll probably play it eventually anyway. starfield could be cool, and iâm glad TESVI is a thing.
Devolver: expected a meme, got a meme. i was really hoping they would show off more games (LIKE FUCKING SERIOUS SAM 4), but getting metal wolf chaos is an ok trade off.
Square Enix: it was fucking nothing
Ubisoft: i missed the first 20 minutes of the conference because of work, tuned in to see a guy ride a minibike to the stage and then destroy a podium. the new trials game looks good, i might actually pick it up eventually. the pirate game might be neat, but weâll see. nothing else they showed was interesting to me. iâve given up on ever liking assassinâs creed ever again.
PC Gaming Show: yakuza on pc was a nice surprise, even if they have denuvo drm tied to them. rest of it was a shitshow. i spent more time workshopping jokes in the discord voice channel then actually watching the show. long like the drake duck
Sony: the first half was a shitshow. i do not and will never give a shit about TLOU so the entire first part of the show was boring. guy on a banjo followed by an extremely scripted sequence of gameplay followed by 30 minutes of stalling on stream before they show the next game. thanks to audio issues on the streams, it killed the impact of ghosts of tsushimaâs gameplay reveal. the rest of the show was okay i guess. RE2make looks fucking baller and spiderman looked better than it did last year. death stranding was neat to see but that just needs to come out already. i donât remember anything else.
Nintendo: i seriously, legitimately would have bought a switch right then and there if they had showed wonderful 101 during this direct. but they didnât. instead, new mario party and fire emblem! whee. smash 4.5 ft. ALL THE WARRIORS was cool to see. i appreciate snake being back. still not buying a switch until i see wonderful 101.

Second to last update to the card. Will update it for the last time tomorrow after work tomorrow. Last few conferences were definitely not spectacular. You can definitely tell everyone is spinning their wheels until the next console generation rolls out next year.
Here are my grading criteria:
1) No game no hype. Thatâs the major rule. Trailers must include real gameplay to be good.
2) The more 2019 release dates the better.
3) Points are taken off for unnecessary buzzwords. To see what qualifies as full of buzzwords, look at Microsoftâs Xbox Scarlett video.
4) New rule: Must keep me engaged.

Moist Rowletâs E3 Report Card: 2018 Edition
Another year means another E3 Report Card! This time around Iâm dropping the whole Multiplatform distinction, as I felt that kind of just sucks most of the fun away. This time, Iâm going off what they showed off, and if they showed it off first, then they get credit. Without further ado, letâs get started!
EA: F
Why did you have to do that to Command and Conquer EA? Just... why. Every year itâs the same nonsense of SPORTS AND SHOOTERS. The most notable thing was that they acknowledged that they messed up Battlefront 2. The bar was raised so low, and they still failed to meet it.
Microsoft: A
It took them a long, long time, but Microsoft finally realized that people donât want long descriptions of services and promises of games, they just want games. And by god, they gave us games. Todd Howard is no long Todd Coward, since he actually showed up this time! They finally gave us a date for KH3 (also they gave it to Microsoft this time!), and while itâs sad that they delayed it to 2019, at least itâs early 2019. Between Cuphead DLC ft. New Waifu, DmC FINALLY COMING BACK, and Nioh but Dark Souls, there is a lot to behold, all things considered. And the final reveal was a long, long time coming. The conference made me forget that the Xbone was dying for just a moment, which is more than good enough for me. Thatâll do Microsoft. Thatâll do.
Bethany Esda: C
While not bad, I didnât see much good either. At the very least, Todd showed up! That aside, I still donât know why Legends had to change developers at all, and Iâm a still bit confused as to why it was there to begin with. The rest of the announcements, like Prey Prop Hunt were okay. DOOT 2 is nice. Fallout 76 is... it kinda just looks like Fallout 4 with online slapped on, though the cryptid enemies look neat. The Todd Segment (tm) is a mixed bag overall I felt. Mainly because Iâm still wary of his Sweet Little Lies. Also I WANT FUCKING BLACKMARSH TODD.
Square Enix: C
Short, but not impressive. Sure, most of it was in fact gameplay, but most of it was stuff that we already knew from the other conferences, which leads to the lower score I gave the conference. There was nothing bad, but nothing of note either. At least DQ 11 looks good.
Ubisoft: D
Coming off of their surprisingly decent show last year, this one I felt was very lackluster. The gameplay that we did see seemed to confuse more than it actually explained, and most of the upcoming content for current games isnât very exciting either. Star Fox making a surprise appearance was nice, but aside from that? Not much else to comment on.
PC Gaming Show: B
While there was nothing bad, there wasnât much good here either. Noticing a trend here? There were plenty of games to be shown though, which bumps up the grade a bit more than Square or Bethany Esda. The sheer volume was all they really had though, while the actual announcements themselves werenât very impressive. So overall, it was nice, but not impressive, which is at least better than Square.
Sony: D
How... how did you fuck that up? You were given about an hour, and you used 30 minutes of it on one game, went to intermission, and then you blitzed through a combination of titles we already knew or trailers that merely acknowledged the existence of games. At the very least we can FINALLY CONFIRM THAT DEATH STRANDING IS A GAME THANK GOD. All in all, it didnât really feel like an E3 conference. It failed in hype and it failed in quantity. You spent an hour on 5 new games? Utterly Unimpressive, two years in a row. Microsoft did Sonyâs job better for them, and for that, they get the credit.
Nintendo: A
Itâs a bit difficult to assess Nintendo from just their conference, because they usually spread their announcements throughout several days after the main Direct. Still, I can safely say that itâs a good deal better than a majority of the other conferences. Nintendo are the masters of hype, and they deliver once again, despite the small number of games actually shown in the conference. Of course, the major attraction is Smash, which completely blew away every single speculator since the first trailer, and for that, I gave them their corresponding score. Take notes Sony. This is how you spend 30 minutes on one game.

Manga the Week of 7/14/21
SEAN: Now that July 4th has come and gone and terrified all our dogs, what manga do we have to soothe us?
MICHELLE: My big tabby is also not a fan.
MELINDA: My cats are fine, but Iâm traumatized.
SEAN: Airship, in print, has Hello World, a sci-fi one shot with a âfix your past to stop a tragic deathâ plot. Given Seven Seas also published orange, thereâs a lot of this going around.
ASH: I did like orange, so Iâm far from opposed to this particular premise.
ANNA: Somewhere I have the first volume of orange, unread.
SEAN: Also in print, Airship has Berserk of Gluttony 3.
Digitally, we get the 12th volume of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
Denpa lists a debut on its website for next week: Lilâ Leo (Reo-kun). This one-shot cat manga is by Moto Hagio, famous for They Were Eleven, The Poe Clan, Otherworld Barbara, etc. This is about a cat who decides to go to school one day like the neighbor kid, then subsequently finds thereâs nothing he canât do. It ran in Flowers.
MICHELLE: Oooh.
ASH: Iâm really looking forward to this one.
ANNA: Cool.
MELINDA: Moto Hagio and cats. Whatâs not to love?
SEAN: Itâs a quiet week for J-Novel Club, as we have only Black Summoner 5 and Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles 15.
In print, Kodansha has Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card 9, Heavenâs Design Team 5, Toppu GP 5, and Yuri Is My Job! 7.
The digital debut is In the Clear Moonlit Dusk (Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki), a Dessert series from the creator of Daytime Shooting Star. The cover reminds me a bit of I Hate You More than Anyone!, and is about a âschool princeâ â female â meeting the other âschool princeâ â male.
MICHELLE: Looks fun!
ASH: It really could be!
ANNA: I really liked Daytime Shooting Star. so Iâm curious about this.
MELINDA: InterestedâŚ
SEAN: We also get Ace of the Diamond 33, ASHIDAKA â The Iron Hero 3, Cells at Work: Baby! 3, The Dawn of the Witch 3, Giant Killing 24, Police in a Pod 2, Shaman King: Marcos 2, The Springtime of My Life Began with You 3, Tokyo Revengers 21, and the 6th and final volume of Vampire Dormitory.
MICHELLE: I really have to get caught up on Ace of the Diamond and Giant Killing. I like both a lot.
SEAN: Two debuts for Seven Seas. The Invincible Shovel (Scoop Musou: âScoop Hadouhou!â (ď˝ăťĎăťÂ´)ăăăăâ
(ăĐă ;;) .:â´DOGOoo) is the manga adaptation of the comedy light novel, and features shovels. So many shovels.
ASH: That title is kind of amazing.
ANNA: I donât know what to think about anything anymore.
SEAN: The other is Mars Red, a manga from Comic Garden that had an anime recently, about a young reporter who meets a friend of hers who a) died years ago, and b) is now part of a vampire A-Team.
Also from Seven Seas: Gal Gohan 8 and The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter 3.
Square Enix has a 4th volume of Soul Eater: The Perfect Edition.
SuBLime has a debut. Bad Boys, Happy Home (Dousei Yankee Akamatsu Seven) ran in Akita Shotenâs Kachi Comi, and features a high school punk who regularly picks fights with a homeless man⌠then, when the homeless man is kicked from where he normally sleeps, the punk offers up his own home!
ASH: Iâll admit, Iâm curious.
SEAN: Viz Media gives us, at long last, the final 40th volume of RIN-NE. I admit I long since stopped reading this, but I hope everything works out for the dumb guy and the somewhat stoic girl who (presumably) loves him.
MICHELLE: I didnât hate RIN-NE, but itâs true that nothing of consequence ever seems to happen.
SEAN: Viz also has Case Closed 79, Fly Me to the Moon 6, and Splatoon: Squid Kids Comedy Show 4.
Yen On has Goblin Slayer Side Story II: Dai Katana 2. Theyâve also got a paperback reissue of The Miracles of the Namiya General Store.
ASH: Iâm still happy that The Miracles of the Namiya General Store was translated.
SEAN: Yen Press debuts The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious (Saikin Yatotta Maid ga Ayashii), a Gangan Joker title about a maid that teases the young boy who is her charge. Gonna be honest, this is by the author of Breasts Are My Favorite Things in the World!, and I hated that, soâŚ
MELINDA: Yen Press staying on brand, I see.
SEAN: Also from Yen Press next week: Bungo Stray Dogs 19, Days on Fes 2, The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious 3, Horimiya 15, In Another World with My Smartphone 2, Interspecies Reviewers 5, Love and Heart 2, No Matter How I Look at It, Itâs You Guysâ Fault Iâm Not Popular! 18, Slasher Maidens 3, A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School 10, To Save the World, Can You Wake Up the Morning After with a Demi-Human? 3, and The Vampire and His Pleasant Companions 3.
What manga makes you calm and tranquil?
