So I'm going out drinking for our drummer's birthday with the band and the guys from his other band, and I'm gonna be staying over at his place along with our singer bc we live far from where we're going out

And I've just had the realisation that since they don't know I'm trans, that minorly complicates my uh, sleeping arrangements (for context I wear a binder every day but normally wear a vest and hoodie to bed)

So I need a second opinion (or many)

My Reverse: 1999 Rarepairs/crackships!

Exactly what it says in the title! I’ve seen a couple other people talk about their favorite rarepairs for r1999, so I thought I’d do it for mine!!

(Technically some of these are just characters I think would interact well, not all of them have to be romantic) (and also not all of them are super duper rare)

An-An Lee x Poltergeist

- I just really like the ghost enthusiast x ghost dynamic in general, this counts for horropedia and An-An Lee with any of the ghost characters tbf

- But An-An Lee and Poltergeist specifically would be cool because of their personalities!!

- Poltergeist is obviously more shy, while An-An Lee seems a bit more outspoken, and I can really see An-An Lee helping Poltergeist help gain confidence!

- Either way, very cute dynamic and I like it a lot!

Tennant x Sweetheart

- Originally, Sweetheart was my main theory for who the other character in Tennants I2 Portrait, along with maybe Mesmer Jr.

- While I definitely don’t think it is anymore, I still like the concept of them having a relationship!

- Tennant would definitely be in it to scam Sweetheart, but I think Sweetheart would at least know some of it due to her being familiar with Hollywood secrets and the drama that goes down there

- If they did become “partners in crime” I think they would legitimately be the best power-couple ever. I just don’t know if there would ever be a scenario where they both show their cards, so I don’t know if they’d ever reach that point sadly.

- Their rich girlboss energy knows no bounds, and together they will be unstoppable

Sweetheart x Bette

- Actor x Stunt double, just another fun concept!! (I saw a similar idea with Blonney and Bette as well, which would also be cool!)

- Sweetheart is sassy and assertive but befriends her innocent stunt double and takes her to Hollywood parties

- Bette is so confused but Sweetheart is her idol so it’s not like she’s going to say no

- It would basically be like the sassy popular girl falls in love with nerd/shy girl trope, Hollywood edition

- I think they would be very cute though!

ONiON x TTT

- The only news station TTT isn’t sick of

- She was actually covered by one of ONiON’s stories, and she’s been a big fan ever since!

- When ONiON meets her, they hit it off immediately!

- Both of them have different brands of eccentric show host vibes and I’m here for it

AliEn T x Sputnik

- The space besties

- Sputnik literally references AliEn T’s lines, what can I say

- Mostly just them lying to each other about exactly what/who they are to hilarious results

Bkornblume x Click

- Sitting as silence as we speak (consider each other their best friends and know each other really well despite this)

- There’s really no other special reason, I just think they’d get along!!

Constantine x Vertin’s Mom

- Not super rare technically

- There is no info on it but it’s both a super interesting and very funny concept

- I saw a post a while ago about the parallels between Madame Z, Constantine, and Vertin’s Mom to Matilda, Sonetto, and Vertin, and it was really cool!

Regulus x X

- Technically this one I like more as a friendship, but I still want to talk about it

- Regulus hung out with X for longer than she did Vertin, there’s no way they aren’t at least somewhat friends

- They’re both sneakily coming up with ideas of pranking people with machines (They were both definitely giggling at the idea of pouring tea on Forget-me-not)

A part of me thinks maybe the ending of Sputnik Sweetheart was K dreaming (and maybe the dream temporarily being bridged to the other side). It was 3:30 when the phone rang…

3:30 was. when Sumire often came up with ideas and found answers through their conversations. Perhaps the ending, in some ways, was K coming up with answers of his own of where Sumire has gone and what the other side is, also what became of people who lost themselves to this other side.

After all … "The answer is dreams. Dreaming on and on. Entering the world of dreams and never coming out. Living in dreams for the rest of time."

My Album(s) a Day - Day 56

So for today's pull off of my recs list, I did something different: I asked my brother which one of his recs that he thought I would like the least. He gave me two options, one was a hyper pop album, and one was this album, which was a cross somewhere between noise rock and emo. And while not every song was my favorite, when this album hit, I loved it. It sounded like midwest emo songs dragged through the grimiest filter you can find. It sounded like it was recorded on a Nokia cell phone from 2005. It will definitely not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it more than I didn't.

Cute, but not quite historically accurate. Apollo was the moonshot program, not the rocket. The rocket is the Saturn V, named for the planet (as a successor to the Jupiter rockets which were named after the Roman king of the gods - Saturn would be even more powerful. Saturn is a Roman god, too, of time among other things). And the Soviet rocket from the same era was the N-1, whose name is derived from the Russian for "carrier rocket" (it never launched successfully). The associated program (and spacecraft - both programs shared a name with their associated spaceships) isn't quite a one-to-one thing, but Soyuz was probably the closest equivalent to Apollo - its name means "union."

Sputnik (the literal Russian word for satellite, although it was initially derived from "fellow traveller" in the same way the English word satellite is derived from a Latin word meaning "companion") was a satellite launched on a rocket called the R-7 Semyorka ("old number seven"). The US American counterpart was Explorer 1, launched on a Juno I rocket (Juno being the Roman queen of the gods).

If the spacecraft were gonna be gay for each other, Sputnik would be in love with Explorer (Explorer and Fellow Traveler, that's almost as good, isnt it?). Saturn & N-1, Juno and Semyorka, and best of all Apollo & Soyuz (they even had a joint mission once which you could totally frame as a sex metaphor. They docked an Apollo and a Soyuz spacecraft together in orbit. Wikipedia calls it "a handshake in space," but... we all know it makes a good sex metaphor, come on.)

Love the contrast between the Americans’ “Apollo” and the Soviets’ “Sputnik.” You got the Americans naming their rocket after a Greek god trying to communicate the grandness and importance of this rocket. And you got the Soviets naming their rocket “fellow traveler.” Like a friend you go on an  adventure with together. This rocket is our little friend lol

you know what's an odd double standard to me?

the fact that the people who talk about the 'fanfiction market' and treat authors like paid mass-producers of their craft, are often the same people who turn right back on that to say that writing fanfiction is just a silly hobby and that writers don't have any rights to their work in regards to AI and content theft

it feels like they will always take whatever side of the debate makes it so that authors are serving them, instead of being moving parts of a larger community

like, is it so hard to treat people who create things for free and out of love, with a bit of respect and gratitude?

summary: home is where the heart is. sometimes that home is shared with others.

"Oh, sorry, " The loud creaks of the rooftop door almost drowns out their voice, "I didn't think anyone would be up here." 

Beomgyu turned around and there you were, dressed in what you would call your most unflattering outfit, even if Beomgyu would argue otherwise. But, before he could say anything back, you disappeared. The sound of your footsteps faint, almost undetectable, yet Beomgyu's ears were ringing at the sound.

Beomgyu doesn't believe in love at first sight, but if he did, that was the moment he knew that he would do anything to be madly and deeply in love with you. Ever since seeing you in the harsh backlighting of the stairwell, he couldn't get you out of his mind.

Finding himself gravitating towards the rooftop more and more, in hopes that he'll run into you up there. The rooftop became his third home, the first and second being his apartment a few floors down and his best friends.

Months and months past, and Beomgyu would find himself going up there whenever his schedule permitted it, sitting at the dingy patio set he found and cleaned up at the roof, surrounded by the sounds of city night life, basking in the light of the stars above him, and in the company of the plants he brought up; the whole universe embracing him in its arms. 

The rooftop, unbeknownst to Beomgyu, had a second resident. Someone who found the old patio set and brought it up there, someone who watered the plants that they assumed their owner had abandoned, and someone who couldn't get the muffled sound of the man strumming his guitar through the doorway.

You had wished you didn't run away so fast, but now found yourself unable to stop thinking about the red-haired man whose voice you have never heard. And even though it has been months since you've run into him, you found yourself going back towards the rooftop. Praying to the universe, maybe this time I'll see him again; and until the universe answers your prayers, you'll continue to make the roof your home. 

"This is my favorite place in the whole world!" Beomgyu exclaimed. His hair wasn't red anymore, recently dyed brown. And there, following him close behind in complete awe, the rooftop's 2nd resident. 

"This is your favorite place?" To which Beomgyu nodded, the excitement almost radiating off of him.

"Look, there's my plants," he points to the 2 plants you've been watering, "Thursday and Sputnik, I'm usually not good with keeping plants alive but somehow these 2 lived. Here, if you stand right here you can get a great view of-"

You let Beomgyu ramble on. You met him 2 months ago, he was friends with your best friend's cousin, around the time you gave up hope on the red-haired man on the roof, and yet he was the man you were looking for this entire time. Funny. You start laughing to yourself.

"-if the time's right the stars seem a little bit brighter up here." He pauses as he hears your laughter and turns to grab your arms, "what's so funny?"

"You know that's my patio set, I found it at a garage sale. I think Thursday and Sputnik like it."

"Wha-what do you mean?" Beomgyu's excitement turned to confusion.

"And if you look right over there, you can see the fountain. It's pretty late so you'll think no one would be over there, but this one couple goes by the fountain every week to stargaze." You take a glance over to Beomgyu. You can see his eyes darting around as he's trying to understand what you said to him. "Beomgyu, I'm the one that's been watering Thursday and Sputnik. I'm also guessing you're the red-haired man I ran into when I first moved here."

It all clicked. "You were wearing a hoodie with Robert Patterson on it right?"

The rooftop quickly jumped Beomgyu's list, from his 3rd home to his 2nd.

A secret sanctuary and neither of its residents dared to share it with anyone else. You guys did everything up there. You built Lego flowers, made pillow forts, ate takeout from the restaurant across the street. You celebrated everything and anything you could up there.

"Happy birthday to you!" Beomgyu grabs Robert and gives him a kiss right on his forehead as he squeezes him a little too tightly.

"Beomgyu stop! You're hurting him!" You quickly tug Robert out of his grip. "My poor Robert, being abused by his aggressive dad."

Beomgyu softly taps Robert's stuffed duck head, "It's okay Robert told me he likes tight hugs."

Confetti showers you as you open up the rooftop door, and you're greeted to the sight of Beomgyu holding out a bunch of brown balloons.

"What's all this for?" You ask, grabbing the balloons as Beomgyu starts to struggle to put a party hat, also brown, on you.

"You pooped today!" Beomgyu's excitement is comical.

"This is for my poop?"

"You've been constipated for a week, I think this is a perfect time to celebrate." The patio table was covered in food and treats, a lot of cheeses, spicy ramen, and takeout from the curry restaurant that always makes you poop.

Beomgyu blows out the candles on his cake. "Congrats on Masters," it said. The rooftop, now decorated with fairy lights and lanterns, was covered with pictures of League of Legends Champions, printed from a printer that desperately needs a new cartridge.

"Thank you so much," Beomgyu pulls you into a hug, one as tight as the one he gave Robert on his birthday, "You really didn't have to do this."

"You've been staying up all night for weeks trying to climb, of course we were gonna celebrate it." Reassuring Beomgyu that this isn't a stupid celebration to have.

Of course, it was a stupid celebration to have. But as long as you were celebrating together, all the stupid things don't feel so stupid. The stupid little rooftop the both of you put your entire hearts into for months.

It was your home.

The multiple plants you guys take care of together(Beomgyu isn't very good at watering them), the pieces of random decorations and furniture you left up there(2 chairs covered in a Twilight blanket and pillows you treat as your sofa), and the photo album, almost bursting with the number of photos you guys have taken up there.

Eventually, both of your leases end, and with that ends the time you shared on the rooftop. All of the stupid celebrations you've had, people watching, stargazing, movie binges; left as a fond memory of the rooftop you two shared. The rooftop was now empty. To the innocent bystander it seemed like nothing happened up there, it just always the old dingy rooftop of an overpriced apartment building.

But to the rooftop's couple, it was the best story they have could ever told.
