okay y'all, i've never actually done something like this but i decided on a whim the other day to start a sewing project, and i'm gonna do my best to document it here just for my own enjoyment lol!

the goal is basically to take this jacket (pictured below) that I bought on amazon for a kotlc halloween costume a few years ago and spruce it up a bit

the current plans are to:

reinforce the bottom edge of the skirt part so it has a little more structure

replace the buttons with ones that a) look nicer and b) are more durable (right now they're plastic and also have this crown/crest design that almost feels like it belongs on a flag or something??? idk I just don't like them very much and wanna have different ones)

maybe do some embroidery on the bottom edge of the skirt (and potentially other areas as well)??? i haven't fully decided yet but leaning towards yes if I can manage to teach myself embroidery before my interest in this project disappears lol

(i might also do something with the zipper pull, i can't really decide if i fully like it as is but that's a thing for future me to worry about haha)

but yeah i think the vision is mostly just fun jacket with vaguely steampunk-space-pirate vibes (à la the mechs lol) so we'll see what happens!

Decided to try out this locally made spruce tip soda I saw. That is quite the bright green. Flavor's hard to describe, but not unpleasant. One of those things you probably wouldn't get yourself, but wouldn't turn down if offered.

My favourite time of the year (ok, ok, really I like almost all of them) has arrived, the time when spruce tips arrive. I hadn't actually noticed [them] this year, until the youngest kid came home with his mouth full of something. "What is it that you have?" "KKAMPMKAPM" they answered and quite a bit of spruce needles fell on the floor. "Okay." In their honour this is the easiest "recipe" with spruce tips so pick one tip off the branch, lay on the grass and eat the needles one by one. The softer, the better they taste.

yes, it is because I wanna eat a tree too. I actually ate tree bark a lot as a kid. The sap tasted so good. So, I think eating a tree would be the next logical step in my cravings to munch.

I don't know where you live but it's Spruce Tip season, buddy.

Go for a little nature walk and check for Spruce trees. The ends of the branches should be growing (I live pretty far north, our growing seasons may differ vastly) and when the sticky seed pod is easily removed from the ends or has fallen off, the soft, bright yellow/green ends are edible. AND TASTY. They taste citrusy, very bright with a hint of that earthy almost mintiness you get from the scent of Spruce. But you want them when they are still fairly small.

But yes, tiny full grown trees. Like natural little bonsai everywhere? Adorable! Nature's broccoli lol

on the subject of JDK as a story though, i HAVE had a lot of thoughts start clicking into place over the past couple days so some new decisions;

-thinking I'll change Nightshade's name to Solanace(the genus nightshade plants are from). Bc again I created her concept + name as an edgy kid and i feel like she needs it to be a bit more subtle

-tossing around some ideas for the name of her organization....leaning towards referring to her followers as "the Nightchildren" for no reason other than I think it has a nice ring to it. Not saying it will 100% be that, but it's the best I got so far

-"Jonas doesn't know" was a placeholder title in reference to my first tumblr url that I had for years, I never intended it to remain. Now that I've figured out more of the plot I wanna focus on brainstorming a new title. Collecting keywords/phrases to draw inspiration from 🤔

-I don't think I'm gonna lean completely into "Solanace is super evil" anymore, I think she's just. Very self-centered and willing to do whatever it takes to reach her goals. She genuinely does love and care for her followers- as long as they're of use to her. They aren't considered expendable to her until they stop providing what she needs from them and she will fight to protect them up until that point

how does my cat have this uncanny sense that i've brought a plant into the house? just plucked a super nice specimen of Pulmonaria officinalis to press, turn my back for one second and it's already got a leaf half chewed off and 2/3rds the flowers missing.
