if andrew was a bit swayed by kevin, i cannot blame him in THE SLIGHTEST. kevin is like, specifically engineered to appeal to all of andrew's protective instincts:
fleeing horrific abuse from a grade-A asshole
thinks about going back to the abusive situation sometimes
needs him all the time
hot.
and on top of that, kevin tells him he's worth something and that he'll give him something to live for.
like idk what else andrew could have done. the man is not made of stone.
#sure kevin isn't a wilting flower of a damsel but unfortunately that only adds to his charm#for the record#i %100 think their relationship in canon is exactly that flavour of bromance you find in sports manga#that's built on challenging the other to be a better version of themselves in a platonic way#but#it's so so funny to me that outsiders like wymack could have easily interpreted their relationship as “complicated gay pining”#and that perhaps andrew was indeed swayed for a moment until the challenge of exy became more important between them#i guess that's why i like platonic kandrew?#because it's not really because of neil that andrew comes to like playing exy#believing in neil is a catalyst but actually getting invested in exy is something he develops with kevin#anyway#aftg#andrew minyard#kevin day#aftg spoilers

Maybe exy is a little boring to him — but andrew doesn’t just not care about exy, neil notes in the beginning of tfc that he seems to outright resent it. boredom doesn’t bring about resentment. but do you know what does? the idea that a sport you barely give a shit about is the only reason anyone gives a shit about you
#this is so messy but I’m having so many andrew thoughts#like imagine your entire life no one seems to really care for you all that much#and then they find out you’re like. really fucking good at a sport and suddenly you’re wanted#but they don’t want YOU — that much is clear#they’d throw your ass out the moment you refuse to pick up a raquet ever again#they don’t care about YOU — they care about how many goals you can block#shit I’d be bitter too#(for the record I do think people care about andrew ie nicky wymack betsy etc but from andrew’s pov… baby has abandonment issues)#andrew minyard#aftg#all for the game#tfc

when people say that it’s obvious that a lot of f1blr have never followed a sport before, they’re not saying that it’s a BAD thing to have an entry point into sports fandom. like, it’s tumblr, a lot of people belong to communities that are marginalized in traditional sports spaces. everyone has to start somewhere. it’s also okay to mostly engage with the sport through the lens of traditional tumblr fandom. like, that’s mostly how i use this particular platform. who cares.
what is grating to ME is when people don’t see a difference between sports fandom and traditional tumblr fandom, and start treating different team/driver preferences as dangerous conflict. or start demanding moral justifications for those preferences. or treat preferences/interpretations different than their own as moral failings and not pretty basic natural outgrowths of sports fandom spaces.
that sort of behavior just demonstrates to me that the person hasn’t interacted at all with sports fandom spaces other than tumblr. sports are essentially about arbitrary conflict and tribalism yknow? nothing dangerous about that.
#for the record i find the inverse pretty annoying too#fandom wank#this is not directed at anyone in particular ofc just thoughts#from someone who enjoys thinking about sports fandom/fandom dynamics#well i mean. it’s a little directed at minah’s anons who at times leave me speechless#i also think that this is reflective of f1’s structure as a sport where teams are secondary to personality for a lot of people#where tribalism isn’t quite as arbitrary for a lot of people as it is in other sports

seijoh 4 as summer camp employees
hanamaki takahiro is BUILT for this he has fun hair he’s weird he’s engaging his he’s colorful his water bottle is covered in stickers he has sandals on toes Out he is shameless he’s kinda unhinged it so works. he’s a counselor but almost never has a cabin to himself he’s more like a sub if someone else has gets sick or whatever but when he shows up it’s like a celebrity sighting a monumentous occasion. if he’s not needed anywhere else he’s helping out with arts and crafts his favorite artworks are the ones where you can’t tell what the fuck it’s supposed to be. he has lots of string friendship bracelets he knows how to make them but lies whenever someone asks he just gives them one he gatekeeps cuz he thinks it’s funny and teaching is too much work. he tells the most Outrageous ghost stories and is the reason only half of the kids will go in the lake he talks about bigfoot and campers who went missing and the town’s curse he is carrying on legacies he is SO fun.
iwaizumi hajime is the Coolest fucking counselor ever. bandana around his head sleeves cut off of the uniform tshirt (muscle tee now) he has friendship bracelets a beat up watch one anklet his water bottle is on its last leg he has a dinosaur keychain on his backpack he like epitomizes cool guy the kids idolize him. his cabin wins every single camp-wide competition every time like he’s peak athleticism and he’s just like so awesome or whatever it’s contagious. he picks kids up and throws them in the lake and pool if a frisbee gets stuck in a tree he gets it every time he caught a snake once and took it back to the woods everyone wants to sit next to him in the mess hall he can’t build a fire and is mad about it he sleeps like a fucking Rock and snores like a lawnmower and eats enough for 3 people at every meal.
oikawa tooru is a lifeguard. at the pool at the lake he’s always around the water somehow and Everyone has a crush on him. up on his lifeguard chair sunglasses on his skin is all golden whistle around his neck or spinning on his finger his hair somehow always looks good he wears a headband one day and someone literally faints. he teaches swimming and canoeing lessons and is really good at it he almost Never has to save anyone for someone who works by the water you’d think they’d swim a little more. he’s pretty quiet when he’s on duty he takes the job seriously but he’s a fucking motormouth when he’s off that chair he will Not shut up. he sits w the boys at meals running that fucking mouth pisses them off So Bad he blatantly flirts/fights with iwaizumi when the kids aren’t around and Refuses to get into a canoe with him bc it always ends up getting flipped. he’s really good with the younger kids they’re his favorite to work with but he is generally well liked throughout the camp he’s like everyone’s counselor crush and he always eats raisin bran for breakfast.
matsukawa issei is the camp cryptid he works with the older kids who like go backpacking and spend all their time in the woods he emerges looking like he’s been there all his life. he kinda just appears sometimes doing odd jobs taking things to the lost and found feeding the chickens fishing things out of the lake general camp maintenance he materializes out of the trees with a fire extinguisher a neon yellow backpack and a missing camper. he’s often accompanied by the camp dog so there are theories (encouraged by takahiro) that he’s actually a werewolf and that’s why he’s everywhere some people think he is the camp dog issei thinks this is very funny. the only place he’s consistently found is the mess hall at meals otherwise when not wandering or in the forest he can be found hanging out with hiro coming up with new ghost stories playing some sort of sport with hajime or pouring water on tooru’s head wherever he happens to be. issei is the best campfire builder on the property and some of the kids are scared of him he never has his phone can only be contacted by walkie-talkie he is the jack of all trades.
#iwaoi grew up going to camp together their dynamic has Not changed#anytime he’s asked a question issei answers very vaguely he’s not giving anything away like ‘where do you sleep?’ ‘the woods.’#oikawa lifeguard i Know you can picture it he reapplied sunscreen every 2 hours mr ‘walk please!’ like its him#hanamaki flirts with issei whenever he appears they make spooky noises outside cabins to scare the unruly kids#iwaizumi sports KING like you name it he can play it he can beat you at it he set the campwide record for the climbing wall on his first da#this may only hit with a very specific audience i hope it finds you if not just trust me#seijoh 4#haikyuu#summer camp au#hanamaki takahiro#matsukawa issei#oikawa tooru#iwaizumi hajime#matsuhana#iwaoi

Sam Collins Defending Backmarkers (Specifically Logan Sargeant)
@quigzahhutt
Bahrain Pre-Season Testing TUESDAY Session ONE, timestamp 2:47:00 (give or take) on F1TV; context, talking about teammate comparisons in Sauber
“…I think this is one of the big fallacies of formula one, that it’s easier to come as a rookie in the back– I don’t think it’s necessarily true.
When you look at the rookie performances of, say, Oscar Piastri compared to Lando Norris– Piastri is generally behind Norris, in fact pretty comfortably, in the qualifying head-to-head as an example in the last couple of years. But because the McLarens are at the front, if Norris is on Pole, Piastri can be third. If Norris is fifth, Piastri can be seventh. And occasionally, Oscar’s outqualifying Lando as well– but you know you’re always in the top ten. You’re always making it to Q3. It seems great…
…whereas if you’re in a slow car, you could just be plopped at the bottom of the field. Like Logan Sargeant, who could be a few tenths behind Alex Albon, and rather than being fifth and eighth he’s just constantly last and constantly right at the back. It was a little bit like Zhou had last year– well, he wasn’t a rookie, but– the comparisons just get brutal when the car’s not good.
Because you are the slowest driver in the field. And if the Sauber car’s not good and Bortoletto’s consistently a little bit behind Hulkenberg, then he will become the sort of tailender of the field… which is not a nice place to be. More notable there than if you’re somewhere just being in the midfield– just being a couple of tenths away and still able to scrabble for points….”
–Sam Collins
#F1TV no longer lets me screen record#piracy is a dying art#fast forwarded through the entire session to get the exact moment#scribbled it all down between frantic pauses and unpauses#forgive any transcription errors but this is as exact as it’s gonna get#but SAM COLLINS YO#this is why i love f1 tv#you can see how much they care about the sport#they’re not here to kick anyone when they’re down#they want to make sure new fans have a broader and therefore more compassionate understanding#and that’s a beautiful thing#f1tv#f1 2025#bahrain#pre season 2025#logan sargeant#ls2#sauber f1

Why I hate Golf
This is the Takapuna Golf Course in Auckland, New Zealand.
It is in the middle of Auckland's north shore suburbs.
According to their website, they are one of the most popular golf courses in Aotearoa and have an annual visitor count of 60,000 people. They don't clarify if that is individual unique visitors or recounts, but lets be generous and say its unique visitors. 60,000, not bad.
This is Eden Park Stadium (the little square on the right) and oh look there's another golf course on the left there, ignore that one for now.
(the above two images are at the same scale)
Eden park has a capacity of 50,000 people. Ed Sheeran was here earlier this year and sold out the two nights he performed. That's 100,000 people in a weekend all in that little red square. 60,000 in a year no longer seems so great.
60,000 people per year is also only 160 people per day. 160 visitors to a golf course that is 470,000 square meters in area. Now the average property size in Auckland is 500 square meters. So the golf course takes up the area of 940 houses.
940 homes worth of land for 160 people.
And that is Auckland housing sizes. Auckland is horribly designed and very spread out. Let's instead look at Barcelona, considered one of the most well designed cities in the world.
This is Takapuna golf course side by side with Barcelona
(The scale is as close to being equal as I could get them, I don't have ArcGIS data for Barcelona so had to use google maps)
Each red square overlaid on Takapuna Golf Course is exactly 133m in height/width, the same size as each city block in Barcelona, road width included.
There are 23 Barcelona blocks worth of space in Takapuna Golf Course with room to spare. About 640 people live in each Barcelona block, that's 15000 people.
15000 peoples worth of homes and living spaces, sacrificed so 160 people can play golf in a day.
Now this is just one golf course in a big city, what's 15,000 people to a city of 1.6 million, who cares right?
Here is a wider shot of Auckland City.
Those red dots? They're golf courses.
There are 16 golf courses inside the metropolitan area of Auckland City (4 not pictured as Auckland is too spread out to get one clean screenshot). Keep in mind these are not rural golf courses out in the country, these are right beside housing developments and shopping malls. And for the record I could not find a single golf course in the Barcelona metropolitan area, you had to go out into the country before finding one.
So lets multiply that 15,000 people by 16 golf courses?
240,000 people.
With Auckland City's golf courses you could house 240,000 people comfortably with some good urban planning.
That is why I hate golf.
#For the record I'm not 100% against golf I just think if you have the time to play the most boring sport in the world#Then you also have time to drive 30 minutes out into the country side to play it#golf courses water usage is a whole other story but they aren't uniquely wasteful so thats why I havent mentioned that#golf courses in dry areas with water shortages are even worse than a waste of space and it doesnt matter if theyre urban or rural#but for golf courses in a place like auckland theyre water usage is generally fine and its the waste of land use that bothers me so#Auckland#New Zealand#Aotearoa#Golf#Barcelona#Why i hate golf#golf hate
