If you're looking to get an early start on Spooky Season with some incubus spice to go with your pumpkin spice, consider pre-ordering the kindle edition here, or keeping an eye out for when the title becomes available for free on Kindle Unlimited!
Fans of ACOTAR, Outlander, The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Lords of the Underworld and even more contemporary romances like It Happened One Summer... this one's for you!
Also... given A Sensual Summoning's ties to tumblr and the community that showed it such love I decided to turn it into a book, keep an eye out for a special surprise I'll be unveiling soon for you guys. 👀

At a loose end, need book recs for spooky season. Bonus points if they're interesting vampire stories that have nothing to do with Twilight or Anne Rice

"The shift from the Afro-Caribbean zombie to the U.S. zombie is clear: in Caribbean folklore, people are scared of becoming zombies, whereas in U.S. narratives people are scared of zombies. This shift is significant because it maps the movement from the zombie as victim (Caribbean) to the zombie as an aggressive and terrifying monster who consumes human flesh (U.S.). In Haitian folklore, for instance, zombies do not physically threaten people; rather, the threat comes from the voduon practice whereby the sorcerer (master) subjugates the individual by robbing the victim of free will, language and cognition. The zombie is enslaved."
— Justin D. Edwards, "Mapping Tropical Gothic in the Americas" in Tropical Gothic in Literature and Culture.

My current spooky season read. The audio book is narrated by Mia Farrow herself.

A random list of spooky season books for 2023 I either have checked out or on hold through Libby , favorited on Hoopla, and one ( the last one on the list) I'll probably buy. This list is heavily dystopian/apocalyptic, a little queer, and only the last four are romance:
Johannes Cabal the Necromancer - Jonathan L. Howard
Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke and Other Misfortunes - Eric LaRocca
Zone One - Colson Whitehead*
The Pallbearers Club - Paul Tremblay
The Perfection of Theresa Watkins - Justin C. Key* (full short story on Tor.com)
The World Wasn't Ready for You - Justin C. Key*
Lone Women - Victor LaValle*
Tell Me I'm Worthless - Alison Rumfitt
Out There Screaming - Jordan Peele*, John Joseph Adams
Upright Women Wanted - Sarah Gailey
Black Wave - Michelle Tea
The Tiger Flu - Larissa Lai*
The Genius Plague - David Walton
Manhunt - Gretchen Felker-Martin
What Moves the Dead - T. Kingfisher
The Marigold - Andrew F. Sullivan
The Gilda Stories - Jewelle Gomez*
Do Your Worst - Rosie Danan
The Spirit of Second Chances - Synithia Williams*
Counterfeit Courtship - Synithia Williams*
I'll Come Back for You - Charish Reid*
* = author(s) of color
