i also feel like phil/dapg is going to do a temu sponorship at some point, since phil continued to do 'stuff i bought from wish' videos even after we told him wish was not good it seems like he kinda doesn't gaf.

i don't think they will. they made a comment about something being a version from Temu/Wish recently? (i don't remember where, i thought it was in Burn Book, but it's not. edit: a comment about Dan being "Anthony Padilla from Wish. What about Temu?" in Phil's bday stream). it felt like they were aware enough of how crappy these companies are. and i hope Dan says a word if they come up on the list of sponsors. like, how desperate do you need to be to take Temu's sponsorship? a company that is constantly criticised and annoys everyone.

you know what's funny? Phil's Wish videos weren't sponsored by Wish. 2 of them are actually sponsored by other brands (Honey and NordVPN). it's so stupid from company's perspective to let Phil basically promote another brand in a video they sponsor. they paid money to promote Wish. although Honey and NordVPN aren't necessary competing with Wish it's still such a strange move, because the attention is on Wish instead of them. and Phil promoted Wish without even taking money from the company. this is hilarious! and stupid.

if dnp ever come back to Wish i hope it's for at least 5 figures. and i hope we never see Temu, or betterhelp or even hellofresh on dnpg/ap.

I am finally caught up on Only Murders and this season us is soo good !!

I think that Loretta and Ben are Mother and Son and that's why she had those clippings in the book of him. Now did he know about her I think so and that's who he was fighting with in the dressing room

I think Tolbert is the killer. Now I hope for Mabel's case i'm wrong but Tobert has some of the most access to him. Not maybe what i'm thinking is Ben's brother hired Tolbert to kill him because his Brother was tired of living in his shadow.

Now also i'm a litte eh on the brother because wouldnt he loose his cash cow and job ?

I think Kimber is hiding something big but she's not the killer. They def had more going on then a sponorship fight.

Robot Chicken #66: “Tell My Mom” | January 4, 2009 - 11:30PM | S04E05

This one has a wide array of jokes that I mostly don’t care for. I will discuss two sketches because I really need to not be writing about this show so much. You don’t need me saying (for demonstration purposes only) “There’s one where the Hungry Hungry Hippos barf… hmmm, check please!”.

Okay, the first sketch is one that once made an informal list of worst sketches I’d ever seen. It’s Joey Fatone on a stage with an easel, which he is using for visual aid for a sketch he’s pitching to the Robot Chicken show. It’s supposed to be a lame idea. But, it's not satisfyingly lame, if you get my drift. It feels like a sketch for babies or something. Like, even with the intended irony level, it feels like it’s rated freaking G! I need some PG-13 stuff, STAT. 

The other sketch I want to highlight is the B-Team, which pisses me off. There are a number of sketches on Robot Chicken that remind me of ideas I had in high school. This one does, but I remember it as an idea that I rejected for being too easy and dumb. An off-brand A-Team called The B-Team? Who on Earth hasn’t thought of that premise. I did like the punchline where they attempt to build a thing and just give themselves carbon monoxide poisoning while in a locked garage. Admittedly, this one grated on me more for the fact that it was highlighted in the promo for the episode, like they were PROUD OF IT. NASTY!

EPHEMERA CORNER:

King of the Hill (January 1st, 2009 - 10:00PM)

Starting with the episode "Westie Side Story", for some reason (that's like episode 6), Adult Swim began airing King of the Hill at 10PM. On Monday December 29th (mere days before this), Adult Swim weekdays expanded into 10PM. That slot was quickly filled with a pair of King of the Hill episodes, which I'd argue is a pretty good transitional show from Cartoon Network into the stankier Adult Swim.

Do any of you remember seeing an interview from some respected anime guy, who was asked what his favorite cartoon of all time was and he got mildly bashful and said it was King of the Hill, and that he considered it a masterpiece? I can't find it, but I swear I read that once. Anyway, I agree with that guy. King of the Hill is wonderful. It's "post-classic" years are still very solid.

This is also a show that I badly need to rewatch. I haven't on-purpose watched this show in over a decade, maybe.

The Adult Swim run was also welcome because I remember the DVD releases had halted at this point, so seasons 7 onward were not available to own. This is one of the last shows I remember "collecting" by recording the missing seasons on DVD-R.

I don't remember if they started right away, but King of the Hill typically aired with special bumpers that seemed like more typical sponorship bumpers; "King of the Hill is brought to you by" but then they'd name a fictional business or organization from the show itself.

I respect King of the Hill and consider it fun.

Shameful story: In high school a funny friend of mine was passing around an exquisite corpse-style drawing for fun. One of the things he drew was a little fish with a funny deadpan expression. I added what I thought was a brilliant idea i'd just had: a little speaker plugged into this fish's brain broadcasting his thoughts (a little speech bubble portrayed him saying "oh no.") I was so proud. Then some time later I sat down and re-watched Fire Ant for the first time in a while. Oh, right. Fuck!

Who among us hasn't stolen from Space Ghost? I am certain I did the same shit. Space Ghost, Mystery Science Theater, and Kids in the Hall were probably the shows I cribbed from the most. Also cartoons stealing from each other is just such a rampant thing I feel like it's basically a non-issue. I forgive you for your crime, I'm nice!

All criticisms of Communism leave my body when I see an ad. Personally I use Grayjay on my phone: no ads, and you can change the settings to filter out all forms of sponorships and even stuff that is off-topic form the video and long-winded intros.

I just got described as an "ad hating commie" by someone because I said a minute of youtube ads is unpleasant. fully spent 5 minutes arguing and defending youtube ads. insane stuff

If you you don't have an opinion about AP audiences, stop talking on a post explicitly about AP audiences. That's what this post ist about. If you're not interested in that, don't engage with it.

You must be arguing in bad faith because if your takeaway of my explanation of sponorship really boils down to "I hope the audience watches them because they like them instead of for the money the show gets to make it" I really don't know what to say to you. No, actually, there is one thing to say:

Obviously the financial situation of an AP production is not the responsibility of the audience. Instead, it's the production's responsibility to recognise what their audiences wants. And if their audience does not engage with non-D&D content, the audience suggests through that lack of engagement that they do not want to watch non-D&D content. Which lowers the incentive to produce more non-D&D content. That's it. That's all there is to it. I can't make it more basic than that. If you refuse to understand how that works, that's on you.

If people want more non-D&D in AP, they need to watch it. But they don't. Despite being vocal about how there should be more non-D&D AP. Which the original post is about but you refuse to engage with that. Which is why this would be talking in circles if kept going.

not putting this on the dropout confessions post about it but the whole "big actual play shows should USE THEIR PLATFORM to move away from D&D" remains the most absolute dogshit opinion of all time:

"use their platform" is just like. on the one hand this is about the reach of their platform, as opposed to people making this about actual irl politics, but also like. it's just one more dumbass case of fandom as activism. You want the things you already do anyway to validate your politics instead of spending an iota of effort to support something else.

Critical Role, TAZ, and D20, three extremely prominent actual play shows, all pretty regularly step away from D&D and do at minimum miniseries and in some cases entire seasons in non-D&D systems. Viewership/listenership craters every time, and as a nosy-ass bitch and a completionist, the people who drop first are ALWAYS this kind of "ugh they shouldn't just do D&D" people. Like, I check on the people who say this publicly and INVARIABLY they are not watching Candela/Daggerheart/Moonward and complained nonstop about Crystal Palace and Cinderbrush; they're not listening to Amnesty and Steeplechase and the various miniseries interludes; and they skipped MisMag, Never Stop Blowing Up, and Mentopolis. And it's always either because they don't want "not D&D", they want their favorite game; or because they want the kind of story that really is best told in a D&D-like system and D&D happens to be a great example of said D&D-like system that these players already know (and heaven forbid you gently suggest they seek out one of the many like, pathfinder podcasts, and I say this as a pathfinder hater who still listens/listened to two pf1e SRD-based podcasts)

He looked up at his own Mentor, the one who had brought him back from the Arena. There were always questions that seemed impossible to ask - did you think I would win? What about Donnegal? What did you have to sacrifice to get our Sponorships? All questions that he worried he actually knew the answers to, having lived them with Alder.

"Thanks," he said, genuineness making his voice soft. "I figured that would be the answer. But it just sucks." He shrugged. "How do I tell him 'oh, I'll just wait over here until. You know. Whenever.'?" He shook his head. "I suppose there's not a way to do that. So. Guess just be glad that I'm here for him now. As much as I can be."

"I'll keep an eye on the penguins then." He promised with a low chuckle. He felt responsible for Lee still, despite the fact that they'd both been out of the Arena for several years.

"We got good tributes this year. With potential." Not that potential meant much, but it was better than having tributes that gave up right of the gate, or ones that didn't even start trying. He knew they couldn't get both of them out, but Forest didn't want to let either family down. They had to try to help both Linden and Al as much as possible.

"I don't know? Sometimes?" He shrugged, waving to off. "I didn't expect you to be friendly or work through all the trauma you went through that fast. If you would've come out of there well adjusted then I would've worried more. No one goes through it without it leaving some marks on you." He pressed his lips together at Lee's comment, downing the drink in his hand. Forest wasn't angry at him, knowing Lee was right. "Don't worry about it. I'm sorry i wasn't there during his Games. and left you to deal with Mentoring by yourself, but I'm proud of you. You got him back home in one piece, that's what matters. You can't make him be okay, but you can be there for him to talk. Support him and let him know he can come to you. Maybe he'll take you up on it when he's ready." There wasn't a day Forest didn't think about losing his family, a day where he didn't miss them.
