Just completed SpongeBob: The Cosmic Shake

It was a good game, I really like the collecting side quests that make you go back and appreciate the level design. I wish the final boss fight had more to it tho.

Spooky Video Game Music No. 321: Halloween Rock Bottom- SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake (PS5/PS4/Xbox Series X/Xbox One/Switch/PC/Steam/iOS/Android)

In this surprise sequel to the popular SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally opened up new universes from a bottle of Mermaid Tears they got from a mermaid fortune teller. They travel through different versions of areas from Bikini Bottom such as a Wild West version of Jellyfish Fields or Goo Lagoon run by pirates. In one universe, they visit Rock Bottom but it’s really different from the Rock Bottom they know. Halloween decorations are everywhere (hence the name of this world), skull-like tikis and bottomless pits are everywhere, and trick-or-treaters want candy in a more aggressive way. They even meet up with an alternate version of Mrs. Puff, dressed up as a marshmallow who can transform SpongeBob into a snail in exchange for 5 pieces of candy and another version of Sandy who is dressed as a ninja. Boy, and I thought the original Rock Bottom is scary…

Compared to the version of Rock Bottom we mentioned in before (in 2020 which was Special Delivery from the GBA version of SpongeBob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman), this version of Rock Bottom sounds a bit more slower and a bit goofier. The instruments give off a whimsical tone, akin to something out of Danny Elfman, which makes the song found a bit sillier yet still have this Halloween feel to it. Even with that in mind, it does still feel intimidating as if danger could be anywhere and SpongeBob has to be alert in his surroundings. As the name suggests, it does capture the Halloween vibes very well and fits the holiday well. I wonder how Halloween is celebrated in Rock Bottom back in SpongeBob’s main universe. 🎃

I've seen people comparing Shadow Generations to the "spunch bop took 40 benadryls" meme (usually contrasting the tone between Shadow and Sonic Generations) so I decided to start porting the white space hub from that to SpongeBob Cosmic Shake.

Still have to finish up applying all the textures to each mesh. But things are otherwise coming together nicely

my game glitched into a neverending death loop during the pom pom fight and when I restarted the game squidward was erased from existence, seemingly trapped in the fnaf ultimate custom night hell I had created and fled. Anyway i loved it I got all the costumes and had fun
