I actually liked the spn finale. Idc that originally cas was suppose to put his arm around deans shoulder. Idc that deans heaven was gonna be a bar with a bunch of ppl he loves. Idc. The show started abt the brothers and ended with the brothers finally content and together and whether from a gencest or wincest standpoint I think that’s beautiful. Also we got wincest forehead press. So.

Currently on a rewatch and found something interesting on Season 8 episode 14 ‘Trial and Error’. The episode opens with Dean setting up his room in the bunker (before Sam comes and acts like an unthoughtful moron…. But that’s another discussion) we see a close up of a group of Vinyls before we see Dean unwrapping a Zeppelin album from a brown bag.

What’s interesting is the first album, the one we see on this close up which is ‘Nat King Cole sings for two in love’ Hmm. Maybe the albums were already in the bunker? Nope. Judging from the bag that Dean removes the Zeppelin album from and the price sticker on one of the vinyls in the stack, we are made to believe that Dean went out and purposely bought these albums for his own space….

For the first time in his 30 plus years, Dean has his own room. He finally has a place that he can decorate with things that he likes and mean something to him. Like how we see many small glimpses that Dean is very well read, more read than he lets on to the outside world and even Sam. This is an example that his musical tastes are a lot more deeper and diverse than just the classic rock which he shows to those around him (the album with the price sticker is a modern Jazz album)

Now let’s focus on the choice to show a close up of the Nat King Cole album. It is quite well known that things are placed on set and shown for a reason (ie: adding the second night stand to deans bedroom in season 9 and then removing it) so to focus the opening shot on this album is an interesting choice. Here’s a closer look at the back of that album….

Hmm interesting… now let’s take a look at the tracks on this album…Tracks 4 and 11 are particularly interesting….

And if you want to dive even further…. Let’s look at some lyrics for track 5, Autumn Leaves…

So not only are Dean’s music tastes more diverse than he shows but this album is a curious choice to focus on…. Especially with everything Dean has just been through (year in purgatory where he could have gotten out sooner but refused to leave until he found Cas. Cas coming back but being off and acting different and ignoring them)

lee represents dean's past. lee represents daddy's blunt little instrument. lee represents the dean who was a soldier because he was raised to be and he didn't know any other way. but lee also appeared to have gotten out. he seemed free, and happy. but he killed others for his freedom. and dean killed lee. in doing so dean killed a part of his past, but he also killed a possible future for himself. he's not the same dean he was fifteen years ago, but he knows that the dean he wants to be isn't going to follow in lee's footsteps.
