yall, please do yourselves a favor and read this fic. its the most perfect thing to fix a broken heart after watching swan song, and the fact that it was posted back in 2010 really adds something to it. its so cool to see fans’ reaction to the episode back when it had just aired and there was no way of knowing what the rest of the show would look like.

its beautifully written, very tender and warm. there are sections that take place in dean’s dreams (sort of, its complicated), and the whole thing has such a beautifully dreamlike quality to it. and its just so full of love :)

For SPN week 2023: Day 6: Fav' season finale(s): 05x22, "Swan Song."

A lot of people seem to say they don't like the spn finale because it's tragic. At the same time, I see so many people both in and outside of the fandom who think that the show should have ended after s5 (even if they like some episodes and seasons from later) and that 05x22 "Swan Song", another tragic episode, should have been the series finale.

I think maybe the reason why 15x20 "Carry On" put so many ppl off isn't actually because the episode is "tragic", but because it actually transforms the entire series into A Tragedy. "Carry On" literally changes the genre of the entire series in the final episode, pulling the rug out from under the audience so unexpectedly that it actually felt violent. It is the mental and physiological response to being blindsided and hurt like that that makes people not like the episode.

i was trying to take an average of how many books per season, but it's a wide range: 16 books for season 1, 3 for season 2, and 5 for season 3. becky acknowledges 2 additional books from s3, and metatron has copies of tall tales and a very supernatural christmas. so it's about 2/3 of s1, 1/5 of s2, and 1/2 of s3. i'll aim for about 10 books per season.

season 4:

04x01 lazarus rising (alluded to in 10x05)

04x02 are you there god? it's me dean winchester (guess, it kicks off the seals plot)

04x04 metamorphosis (guess, seems like standard spn book fare)

04x07 it's the great pumpkin sam winchester (guess, introduces uriel and furthers the seals plot)

04x10 heaven and hell (guess, best example of the "b.m." scene reproduced in 10x05)

04x15 death takes a holiday (guess, it's a good lore episode)

04x16 on the head of a pin (guess, but you know why)

04x18 the monster at the end of this book (must include at least one meta ep, could be replaced by 05x08 or 05x09)
