I think it’s more than likely that Shiver gets a little down post-Splatfest… quarrel- so it’s become a big headcanon of mine that Frye has been entrusted with not leaving Shiver alone until she gets her to smile again, or in this case to laugh~

[⚠️: Tickling (WOAH REALLY?), mild shipping]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The chaotic city of Splatsville is simmering down after another exciting Splatfest. Every team fought long and hard, although one team in particular seemed to once again stand out above the other two, leading to much unnecessary hate between participants; time and time again, most all of that hate is targeted towards one poor Octoling in particular, and one could imagine how tolling that can be after a while... Luckily, she’s never had to deal with all of it on her own..

Frye slowly opens the door to Shiver’s room, frowning at the sight of her laying at the edge of the bed and facing away from her. As she hears Frye coming over to sit with her, Shiver turns over and shuffles to the center of the bed, where she’s met with a warm embrace from Frye. She gives a small smile as she reciprocates the affection.

At this point, just Frye’s hugs were a quick fix for all the unfair backlash she gets. They don’t even have to say anything, like they can read each other’s minds.

“Feelin’ better now??” Frye finally decides to speak up, lightly stroking the long strand of hair that covers one of Shiver’s eyes, forcing a small chuckle out of her. “Yehes… thank you.” Shiver replies with a big, genuine smile. Frye returns the smile with her own usual fangy grin, pulling Shiver in a bit closer. “Of course bud! Anything to put a smile back on your face.” She chirps and brings her hand back over to lightly pinch and poke at Shiver’s cheek.

“PFFThmhMHM!!”

The room totally goes silent. Shiver cuts herself off and throws her hands over her mouth. Frye backs up and tilts her head to one side, squinting her eyes. “..Youu okay bud.??” She asks in an almost amused tone; all she gets is a weak and giggly “mmhmmm” from the Octoling. 

Frye just stares at Shiver, who’s blushing like crazy and not moving an inch; it’s hard to say if she’s even breathing.. “Oooookayy then..” She tries to shake it off, leaning back in to hug her again, but, expecting the worst, Shiver panics, a giggly squeal escaping through her lips as she aimlessly throws her hands out in Frye’s face.

“Wohohohoah!!—“ Frye chuckles and gets a hold of Shiver’s arms, starting to play with them. “Sharky, what’s going on with you??”

“N-nohothing at all!!” Shiver immediately retorts, leaning back in and resting her head on Frye’s shoulder, trying to just play it cool (which clearly isn’t going too well for her at the moment). Frye raises an eyebrow and smirks. 

“Are you sureeeee??? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so giggly so suddenly..~”

“Y-yehs, I’m fine…!!”

“Hrmmmmmm..” She can tell something’s going on here.. but what?? “I see there’s something you ain’t telling me..” Frye repositions Shiver so that she’s looking into her eyes. “..so why don’t you just fess up and say it???” 

Shiver shakes her head and looks away, earning herself a sassy groan from Frye. “C’monnnnnn, I’m sooo curious…” She whines, slowly running a finger down Shiver’s upper arm, which, of course, turned her into a giggling mess for a second, this time even sending her flopping down backwards onto the bed, and giggling still after that..

Frye looms over Shiver, still confused out of her mind.. She takes a minute to try and think of any other times Shiver’s been all giggly like this.. and then, just like that… it comes right back to her. It’s been forever, but still.. how could she forget about the pure, giggle-filled moments they’d share with one another so much??

“..Wait a sec now.. I think I got it..~” She says in a slow, eerie tone, making Shiver’s eyes go wide in terror. She DEFINITELY figured it out. Frye raises a hand ad up and points her finger down at Shiver’s tummy and begins to slowly lower it down towards her, making her scream and start trying to squirm and crawl away, until Frye stops her before she could make an escape by locking Shiver’s legs with hers to hold her down.

“Did ya let something slip now..~?” Frye can’t help but giggle a bit herself as she moves that finger around in a circular motion, keeping it coming closer as slow as possible. Shiver is being crushed by that deadly feeling of anticipation, it’s very obviously doing a number on her; she can hardly form words at this point, all that’s really coming out of her mouth is panicked stammers and giggly squeaks~

“PfffffmhmehehahaAH noOO!! FRYE  DOHon’t PLEHehEhease!!!—“

“Ohhhh, but why would we stop now…? The fun hasn’t even started yet!!” 

As Frye says this, she quickly drops her finger down towards her belly, and the Octoling screams at the feeling of it… lightly landing on her skin.. still enough to get a giggle outta her, but not what she was expecting.. and then just a second later she realizes she’s fallen right into a trap..~

Frye stares into Shiver’s horrified eyes that stare back into her own, the Octoling being met with that glimmer of mischief that she knows all too well.. She’ll never understand how Frye’s so good at this..

Frye could tell just what all this is doing to her~ She raises her hand back up, keeping her now-wiggling fingers close to her stomach and once again brings it in closer and closer, until…

“AaaaandGOTCHA!!” She suddenly wasn’t faking her out anymore, but brings her other hand over and digs her fingers into her hip, and Shiver instantly loses all control over herself, descending into an uncontrollable laughing frenzy~

It actually takes Frye a little off guard.. she can’t remember the last time she heard Shiver laugh so hard.. she can’t remember the last time she heard anybody laugh so hard!! It was pretty surprising, but at the same time amusing, and totally endearing too.. She couldn’t help herself, keeping at it the best she could~

“STOHHPSTOHPFFAHAHAHHH STOPIT!!!!” It’s difficult to understand her, as one may imagine, but the message of pleading for Frye to stop still gets out~

“You’re beggin’ already?? I literally just started!!” Frye says with a small laugh as she starts scritching up and down around Shiver’s belly, now using both hands~

Shiver attempts everything in her power to stop Frye, but the best she could do is push her back a little bit.. of course, not enough to stop the tickling.~ Even if she could go into swim form to try getting away, it wasn’t worth the risk of Frye catching her; then she’d keep her here and she’d have signed up for more than she could handle~

 “Y’know you’re pretty cute when you’re wigglin’ around and laughing so much!!” The Inkling chirps, her grin widening at the sight of Shiver once again panicking mid-giggles when she briefly lowers her finger into her bellybutton and scribbles around in there~

“NOONONONONONONOSTAHAHAHP!! STOHPIHIHIT NOTTHEHEHERHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!—“ Shiver finds herself shrieking and squealing more, no matter how hard she tries to hold herself back. Her body ends up totally going limp and she lets all her giggles out, her desperate and frantic squirming being reduced to her jerking around a little bit and laughing her head off.

“You’re so silly!! I’ve missed this~” Frye coos as she leaves Shiver’s bellybutton alone only to spider her way from her sides up to her armpits, and Shiver tries to stop her, mustering enough strength to grab her hands for a sec. “WAiHaihIHIHIHIhIt STAHP!! LEHheHEHeHeHT mEHEEHEE GOhohOHOHOhOHohO!!!!” She holds her the best she can, but when Frye’s thumbs scribble at her palms,she immediately lets go, and it’s game over for her.~

Frye wastes no time at all and rapidly spiders all the way up her sides~ The Octoling tries in a last-ditch effort to quickly clamp her arms down, but by the time she could, Frye’s fingers were already scritching and pinching her armpits. “No escape nowww…aaaaaaaaTICKLETICKLETICKLETICKLE!!!” 

She can’t help laughing a bit along with Shiver, of course it’s not nearly as loud or hysterical, but still laughing out loud. It feels so good to see Shiver like this.. all blushy and giggly~ She’s just too cute!!

Frye finally takes notice of how little Shiver is fighting back, and smirks. “No more pushing or squirming, huh? You‘re lovin this, aren’t ya?? Or has someone been laughing a little too much now??” She teases at her, splitting up her hands so one is tapping at her midriff and the other tracing circles outside of her bellybutton~ 

“HIHIHIHIHISHUhUHUHUTAHAHAHAHAHAHP!!—“ Shiver shouts back, and Frye playfully gasps~ “Uh, rude!! I think we gotta find another tickle spot for that.~” 

“WHAHAHAHAT NOONONONONOHOHO WAHAHAHAHAIT!!!—“ She immediately regrets her choice of phrasing, but even still makes little effort to actually stop Frye~ Keeping Shiver occupied with some tummy squeezes, Frye lets her other set of fingers dance around her body in search of another tickle spot, and soon enough, her sights are set on Shiver’s thighs.

“Oooo what about here..~” She whispers as her hands shoot down to her thighs and squeeze them, making Shiver’s laughter suddenly get really squeaky~ “HIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHI NOPLEHEHEHEHEASE!!!!—“ She squeals and begins slightly squirming again~ She can hardly believe how fast Frye is relearning, she has no time to brace herself for any possible next move.! Despite her trying to escape the tickling, she can’t shake off a feeling of bliss and enjoyment in this moment of theirs~

As Frye makes her way back up to her belly, Shiver’s laughter becomes a little less unintelligible. She’s still having a blast, but it’s hard to say how much longer she can handle this..~ “OHKHAHAHAY AHAHAHAHARE WE DOHOHOHONE YEHEHT!?!?” She manages to ask in the midst of her laughing fit~

“Ughh, fine…” Frye playfully rolls her eyes and lifts her hands from Shiver’s belly, lending her a break.~

..Until she pins her down to the bed again and starts tickling aimlessly all around her body~ “But you’re just soo cuteee!!!!”

Shiver gasps loudly and squeals even louder, and as she feels Frye attacking her all around her body, there’s nothing she can do to stop herself from laughing harder than she ever has before, to the point where tears are streaming down her blushy face~ She tries to speak in between giggles but just can’t anymore, not holding back a single laugh~

Every poke or pinch makes Shiver jerk around, but Frye’s hands just follow her wherever she squirms to~ “C’monn now Shiver, you can’t handle a liiitle bit of tickling??” She asks in a baby voice, and Shiver just admits defeat and shakes her head frantically, to which Frye laughs to again~ from her armpits to her ribs and bellybutton, to her belly and thighs, and even briefly behind her knees and her neck, Frye’s hands move rapidly around Shiver’s body, faster than she could react to at all until she’s already being tickled to tears~ But of course, she can tell Shiver’s about reached her limit.

“Hehahahh, okay okay okay!” Laughing about as loud as Shiver’s been, Frye finally lets up, getting of of Shiver and lending her a break. “Wouldn’t wanna over-tickle ya.~” She smiles as Shiver rolls into her lap, still giggling like a kid~

Shiver looks up at Frye with one eye open. That.. was certainly something; definitely the last thing she thought would happen tonight, but she absolutely wasn’t complaining about it. Even though she couldn’t think all that good during the tickling, as her mind was a mess of nonstop giggles, looking back at it brings back loads of good memories. In the impossible scenario that the tickling wasn’t enough, the memories alone would be enough to make her night.~

After a few minutes, Shiver sits up, and is instantly brought into another warm hug from Frye~ “There ya go!! Wasn’t that fun??” She asks and pokes Shiver’s shoulder, making her giggle once again. “Absolutely..” She replies, leaning into Frye.

“We gotta do it more often in that case.~” The Inkling chuckles just before they hear the doorbell ring.

“Ah! That’s Big Man with our grub.~” Frye and Shiver get up from the bed, and before they leave the room, Frye quickly grabs Shiver and gets some last giggles out of her with some kisses to her cheek, and then they leave, mustering up any of their remaining energy to pretend like nothing happened~

Can’t believe it’s been a year since Splatoon 3’s release, god I feel old 😭

Deep Cut Tickle Headcanons

Shiver:

Definitely a Ler/Switch

She's great with her hands, it won't take her much to make you squeal.

Engages in tickle fights and sometimes wins. (if it weren't for Frye's strength, she would win 'em all)

Always uses tickles as a threat, which always works on Big Man. (not so much for Frye)

She tickles her crew occasionally, usually going for Frye. (she always gets wrecked by Frye anyways so she just goes for Big Man)

Verbally teases.

Tries to assert dominance over Frye but fails miserably.

She teases Big Man with tickles just to satisfy herself. (Big Man just takes it to make her happy)

Very ticklish almost everywhere on her upper body. (especially her sides, belly, and armpits)

Has a very ruthless tickling style.

Try to tickle her, and she'll get a shark to bite you idk.

Frye:

LER ONLY, nothing else.

She tickles for fun only. (unless she feels like you deserves it.)

Very open about her ticklishness and passion for tickling others.

Wins EVERY tickle fight. (unless she forfeits to let Shiver or Big Man win.)

She knows that she's the ultimate tickle monster. (she wears that title like a badge of honor.)

She's quite ticklish herself, but mainly on the lower body. (inner thighs, back of knees, feet.)

The least ticklish Deep Cut member.

When Frye and Shiver are arguing, Frye wil just pounce on Shiver and tickle her until she admits that she's in the wrong. (works. every. time.)

Her first target would always be Big Man because she loves his laugh and it's funny seeing his fins flapping hysterically.

Her love language is touch so she doesn't mind getting tickled. (just be prepared for what comes after.)

Also teases, but she teases a little less than Shiver.

Openly lets Shiver and Big Man tickle her because why not.

Big Man:

The biggest lee you've ever seen. (quite literally.)

Walking tickle spot.

Big Man can never get enough tickles. (ok fine, time for real hcs.)

He's always in the receiving end of the tickles no matter what, it's actually rare for him to be tickling someone.

Shiver and Frye would be having an argument, Big Man would try to calm them down and just ends up getting tackled and tickled for budding in.

Only gives cheer-up tickles.

One time, he found Frye sulking before a splatfest, and offered himself for Frye to tickle. (she wrecked him of course.)

He's extremely ticklish literally everywhere, all it takes is one poke and giggles galore.

He's so tickleable, even Callie wrecked him before recording liquid sunshine.

His fins are very tickly so if you let him tickle you then it's your loss.

So Team Past won grandfest. Now what?

As we all know, Team Past won S3's finalfest and we all know what that means: the winning team will influence the next game in some way.

I've seen people get kinda disappointed by the fact past won but tbh I'm fine with them winning and I was on Team Future btw. The entire time I was kinda cheering on Team Past from while on Team Future. I just really wanted something different for the next game since I feel like if Team Present won maybe there won't be much of a change in the next game.

So... what do I think the next game is gonna look like? Well, since S3 was the end of the inkling v octoling arc so I really doubt we're getting Great Turf War stuff. I don't know what the story mode will look like but I do have a decent idea of how the game might look aesthetic wise (or at least this is what I hope the aesthetic is gonna be like). I see the next Splatoon game taking on a 2000s aesthetic.

We get some 2000s fashion, the music might take on 2000s pop, rock, and rap (or maybe something similar to the stuff in Jet Set Radio), and the idols I hope will be some sort of rock band (it's about damn time we get a rock band as the idols for a Splatoon game) (what I'd do for an MCR/the Killers inspired idol group; I mean come on TK has some major Splatoon idol group energy just watch the music vid for Somebody Told Me and then watch the Squid Sisters intro video you'll see what I mean).

But what about the 2 new weapon classes? Already on it!

Yo-yos! Basically they kinda work like splatanas but different! You can tap ZR to release the yoyo and the heavier bit of the yoyo will spin around for a bit before retracting. If you aren't immediately hit by the yoyo (this would be an insta kill), the ink that comes from the spinning heavy bit can still give you damage and if you're in the way of the heavy bit while retracting you'll also take damage. The standard version of the weapon is a yoyo, a heavy version would be a beyblade looking thing (it doesn't deal damage while retracting, takes longer to charge, and the spin goes on for a little bit longer), and a light version would be one of those sticky hands (no spin and retracts quickly; still does damage when retracting)

Roller blades! The roller blades could be things you can strap onto your character's footwear so you can still see your kicks. By default, while you skate you'll leave an inky trail sort of like an ink brush. However if you tap ZR, you can do a trick that will release more ink. Holding ZR will allow you to charge at enemies and spread ink. Not too sure what the variants would be.

And that's what I think/hope the next Splatoon will look like. I don't have much else to say about this but I really hope we get something neat for the next game!
