I forgot that now I have published my RBB art of Stede and Ed, I can post some of the pretty coloured wips (before I nailed down a colour theme) and some frankensteined concepts that evolved into the final pieces (which you can see here, in the final fic - written by @luniak and illustrated by me)

I was working very closely with the reference, but it took a while to settle on the golden hour earth tones of the piece - partly to test myself to do something that wasn't just a full kaleidoscope of colours.

Fairy Stede is the best Stede in any colour tbh.

Thinking about how a main part of our meeting/beginning to understand Maka and Soul is a scene where Maka fears her weapon will be taken from her by a pretty girl who covets him.

Fast (not that far) forward to the next big event - the remedial lesson with Sid and Stein - and we meet her new teacher and mentor, whose self-introduction covers basically two things: he lays out his worldview, and he tells them about how his weapon was taken from him by a pretty girl who coveted him.
