rascal: law and robin brotp fanfic
Tumblr media
I have a lot of brotp Law and Robin in my fics, and one fic with them as a couple. I like the brotp interaction. Two cynical and supportive friends, but the writing is mostly in my multi-chaptered works, which are dark or canon divergent or both.
Anyway, I’m going to include an excerpt below. Robin’s painting Law’s toenails while they both chat about current and past loss and love. It’s from a three-chapter work that I don’t think will make much sense without knowing the rest of the world that it comes from, but hopefully this interchange can be followed and strikes a chord with some. I know the LawBin fans are thirsty. Post canon with canon-verse history and elements. This is an older piece.
🐞
Law sat back in the garden recliner in Robin’s backyard, a book over his face. He wasn’t in danger of burning easily in the late morning sun, but had no intention of making himself prey to melanoma. Robin perched on the edge of the recliner, holding one of Law's feet.
He'd spent the night at Robin’s in anticipation of the tea-towel convention they'd be visiting today. She’d spent the night trying to share his enthusiasm as he sat, tattooed arms spread on the table, poring over catalogues. His inked hands pointed out designs featuring disproportionate tulip-ensconced windmills, and disembodied body parts that had less to do with Dali and more to do with morticians.
She assumed all the creators were outliers. Commemorative tea-towels hadn’t quite taken the art world by storm yet, but they did remind her a little of Ryuunosuke, the very cute but badly drawn dragon that had struggled and succeeded in taking them all to the top of Zou.
That was last night though and now, soon, they’d head off to gossip and gander with the convention organisers, the Dishcloth Dames, once she’d made Law pretty.
“These are so cute.” She pulled at the few black gnarly hairs curled on Law’s left big toe.
“Freak,” Law mumbled, moving his foot.
Robin laughed, righted Law’s foot and wiped the brush over the nail of his big toe.
“When did you last clip these?”
“What’s it to you? You’re the one who wanted to dress me up.”
“You’re the one who’s letting me. You’ve got old man’s feet, by the way.”
Law arched his bridge and Robin slapped it, held it down.
“The sexy surgeon’s pedes don’t please? You said they were cute?”
She studied languages. She had no difficulty with Law’s fancy Latin terms.
“Mmm. I wouldn’t go that far. But I guess you got those tattoos to distract from your tootsies.”
The ink on the bridges of his feet matched that on the back of his hands. She felt the arc of the bone against her palm as she admired the designs, although it was one of the more simple ones to adorn Law and, historically, definitely not his favourite.
“And yet, there you are, making them all presentable and shit.”
“Does Marco like them?”
“He’s got his kinks.”
“And . . . ?”
“They remain in the bedroom,” Law grinned. At times he thought the Phoenix liked every part of his body, though they’d never had a deep conversation about those particular extremities.
“Ah, you’re no fun.”
“I’ve been told.”
Law felt her move to the next digit.
“What colour are you painting them?”
“Tch.”
As if it could be anything but black.
“Well, you sent Chopper out for the colour once,” Law said to her silence.
Bubble gum. Robin snickered, remembering. Law peered at her from under his book, her shoulders rose and fell with laughter. He liked that violet t-shirt.
.
Law seemed so disinterested, and therefore, Robin guessed very trusting, when she or anyone else painted his nails. He usually paid little attention to the colour, or even the action. It was something that pleased those who found it amusing to decorate him. Just so long as they let him read whatever he was researching, he indulged them. A small compromise for a larger gain.
No way in hell could someone he didn’t trust do this, though it had been done. Robin knew that trust was hard won. Law told himself that he let them all think he was vain this way so he could go for their jugulars some other time. Plus, he liked giving the Dishcloth Dames even more to gossip about.
.
Thinking of Chopper, Law laughed as if the sound was rationed—a clipped exhalation. The tanuki reminded him of his navigator.
“Bepo. Lord, Bepo got it into his head once to paint me. Maybe he wanted to practice so he could surprise some lucky Mink in the future, and who better to be his chump than his ferocious captain?”
Robin turned to him for a second, curious, before proceeding to the next toe. Her extra hands manipulated Law’s foot for the best access. Law’s own hand kept the book in place. She liked that silver band he sometimes wore on his wrist—a solid link—a flash of sky reflected in the metal.
“His fine motor skills aren’t the best. You’ve seen his maps. Shachi and Penguin thought I’d amputated my own toes without the benefit of a Room.” A rumble lifted Law's chest and then dissolved. He smiled easily. The book didn’t cover all of his face.  “He even dabbed a paw print on my heel.”
“He chose red?” She loved that flash of teeth.
“Mmm. So. I guess it’s black?”
Robin finished the last toenail and told him not to move his feet about for a while. She then drew up the recliner next to his, lay on it, leant on her side and looked across. Law could be asleep for all she knew.
.
“Oi, talk to me endling. Of course it’s black.”
Law’s lips twitched. Only Robin could get away with that.
“So needy, terminarch. How am I meant to do that without moving?”
They may as well have just called each other Flevance and Ohara. They did at times, but neither could be feeling too off-colour when they did, or the devil fruits would come out to play. The town names as nomenclatures were off-limits to anyone else.
“Take that book off your face at least. I know you can’t read it like that.”
“Your makeup bag’s not nearby, is it?”
“Just the toes today, Dr. Death.”
Good. He was only happy for modification to go so far. He sighed, grumbled, but lifted a hand and picked the book up by its spine, and rested it—still spreadeagled—on his chest. He blinked into the sun, then tipped his head her way. Not the most comfortable of positions.
“Can I sit up?”
The grey of Law’s irises were sometimes shot through with gold. She wondered what his parents had looked like. “Give it a few.”
He turned his face skyward again, his arm over his shut lids.
.
“How about Luffy?” she asked. Luffy was before island living, before Law’s casual feet days. If they’d ever played around with nail polish, she’d never seen the results.
Law groaned.
“He approached my nails as if they were made of seastone, his hand was that shaky.” The softness in tone betrayed the annoyance in his words. “For some reason he thought a pearly pink would suit? Maybe it reminded him of marbled steak or something? Of course, he had absolutely no patience.”
Law scratched at his sideburns with his spare hand.
“He slapped it on, forgot to cap the varnish, jumped on me, bringing the sheet with him, or whatever we were lying on, wherever we were. It smeared over everything; our clothes, or more accurately, my clothes. You know, Luffy somehow always escapes his own chaos—and then he declared the whole thing stupid and boring, as if I’d dreamt up the activity and forced it on him.” Incredulity hissed through the back of his teeth.
He tapped his earrings. "Somehow the polish even managed to get on these. Nami-ya probably talked him into the whole thing for a bet."
“And you let him?”
Law didn’t need to look at Robin to know her expression; amused and bemused.
“You choose your battles.”
“Mmm.” Her captain could be quite domineering. She wondered if they were the same earrings. It wouldn’t surprise her. She’d kept the same jewellery over the years, but added to her collection with each pirates' haul. The ones that Luffy didn’t somehow swap for food.
.
She sat up and twisted her neck. They needed to get going soon.
“Phoenix?”
“Still trying to unearth his kinks?”
“Now that you bring it up.”
Law’s smile, the one Robin and only a few others ever saw, made her lips curve.
“I paint for him at times. I mean, my own nails. He’s got a lapis grounding stone, and his flames are blue when he’s in Zoan form. I try to match those shades—a balance between the two. Other times, I paint for myself.”
“Does he notice?” Marco had a grounding stone? But then again, they all had their talismans.
“Sometimes.”
“You don’t tell him?”
“Not always. Other things are more pressing.”
“Does he know you’re a freak?”
“I thought that was you.”
.
Law paused for a second. He tipped his face Robin's way again, his hand still protecting his eyes. How come she got to sit up?
“The dogs have never liked it. And you know, all that waste. It’s not really hygienic in the clinic either.”
“You operate with your toes?”
Law laughed. “When I do my hands . . . It’s not hygienic.”
.
Robin cast a glance at her back yard – the trees that offered privacy from the neighbours, the small pond. She enjoyed life in the New World now Luffy was pirate king.
“The dogs don’t like it, but Bepo can handle it?”
“Well, he’s a freak, too. Minks wear makeup, right?”
Robin nodded. “You say that as if it’s a bad thing.”
“Makeup?”
“Being a freak.”
“To the contrary, some of my best friends are freaks. You can’t all be Chopper.”
Law calls Robin a freak and gets away with it. heh. Perhaps. Anyway, I’ll put the link to the AO3 story as the source (just edited it in. This post has been up for long enough).  It’s actually about dogs and links back to another story, and is kinda sad, and features Robin, but is about Law and Marco, and there’s plenty of humour too. If you want to read it, be my guest. It’s an older one, written a few years ago. T-rated.

Spread her wings
Atlas.
Referenced as a map or anything of guidance, carries the name of a Greek titan. The gunship is far from a titan but packs a punch fit for one. The short hop from the station onboard the carrier barely got the engines heated up.
The carrier itself, now that was a sight to behold. The exterior seemed almost like a mining ship but a further scan revealed stripped interiors and lightweight armor plating to maximum mobility, the hangar bay had likely stored smaller vessel fit for tasks appropriate for the tasks the crew might face. Painted in fading yellows and rust red, the steel panels were dark and laced with warnings to not step there and where different vents were. Ray of antennas at the front, we killed the engines and headed to the back of the ship.
Open the ramp, slight shiver across my spine as I glanced at Valkyrie before turning my eyes back to the hatch. Down the ramp, Mira and Kira were waiting for us with a small group of others.
“There you are” Kira stated and stepped aside. “This pack of misfits is the crew of The Mule.”
“Welcome aboard.” One of the men spoke up from the group and stepped forward. “It isn’t the prettiest thing out here but it’s built like a brick shithouse and can run through almost any barrier known to man. Captain Wilkins, pleasure to meet you two.” He offered his hand out to shake, I took his hand and responded to his shake.
“Specter, pleasure.”
“Valkyrie, same here.”
“Nine, pleasure meeting you Captain.”
“If you need me, I’ll be on the bridge. Ma’am, I’ll leave them to you two.”
“Thanks Wilkins. Let us show you around.”
“Lead the way.”
Got no sleep, no need to do so either, one foot in front of the other as we headed through the decks of the ship and met the crew stationed in the different sections. Many of them seemed busy, but I made a note to visit alone at some point, the trip would take a few days with the drive needing to recharge and cooldown after the jumps. Better than taking the gunship alone, the need to stop for recharge was a good moment to take in the views of the systems we had yet to visit.
Keycard to access most of the decks, understandable that the reactor core was out of limits so I didn’t bother fighting it, we had been given room in one of the quarters seemingly used as storage before we arrived, a few crates still remained in the room. View of the port side engine mount, the window itself was more like a camera linked to a screen inside the room as to keep limit accidents.
Lion and a wolf fighting for control, closing my eyes allows them to brawl it out but the pain inflicted on either gets reflected on my fragile mind. Anger used to be a force familiar to me, sadness was a source of power, now I feel like happiness has wiped them away and I have nothing to use in the face of danger.
I have to repair it.
Perhaps if I wipe the sadness off it, I can fill it with anger and happiness of success, the scorned exterior replaced with a sleek grey and bright red, white details and black screws, I can see it now. Allow Valkyrie to rest, she had been through hell and I had my own problems, the night crawled forward as the Mule crawled towards the edge of the system, I headed back to the gunship. Pull the ramp down, grab the wrecked Phoenix from the armory and scan it once more, the damaged parts showing up in red as I grabbed the cylinder I had bought from my pocket. Green marks, it would fit, but going at this without the correct tools would only further break it. Ship full of gunsmiths, I placed the Phoenix in my holster and took the elevator down to the production deck. Filled with machinery, the place had several workstations that were busy during the day, but now, all of them had gone to sleep.
“You plan on doing a little work?” Mira asked as she walked up next to me. Drawing the revolver from my holster, she scanned her eyes across it and carefully took it from my grip.
“I knew you had this, but never realized it was in such a state… Who hurt you…?” She asked as she walked up to one of the workstations and switched the lights on. Onto the mount, she opened up the cylinder and removed it from the weapon, carefully dismantling the weapon I had used for so long.
“The damage is severe, but can be repaired. Do you have the parts to do it yourself?”
“Not all of them.” I responded and took a closer look at the frame of the weapon. “She has seen hell and lived, some of it my own creation, this one was beyond repairs in the field.”
Scorned surfaces, the side of the barrel ripped open as if a wild animal had been clawing its way out and the grip severed from two places, barely holding on.
“In my eyes, each scar tells a story, she has so much to tell…” She fell into what resembled a trance as she picked through the catalog of parts and ordered them to the station, once she got to the cylinder, I stopped her and handed her the one I had on me, the hexagonal shape of it was strange, but the capacity would rise to 7 instead of 6.
Weld the grip back together and mount fresh circuits inside along with a fresh SSD drive, the ballistics computer would connect with my own systems like the old systems, but faster. Cylinder on a new mount, freshly machined, the sleek grey on it was close to my own parts. Fresh barrel and casing for it, the side of it ventilated and reinforced from the inside with a compact rail near the trigger.
The hours that had been crawling passed by like minutes as Mira assembled the Phoenix back together, her hands moving as deftly as a surgeon, she finally took a step back from the desk and moved aside.
There it was, The Phoenix, in all her glory. Hello old friend, I had missed you so. Placing my hand on the grip, the internals of the grip linked with mine almost instantly, the HUD icon for the revolver had changed from a simplified drawing to a burning sigil, the color matching my eye as I opened the cylinder and closed it back up. Sights calibrated with my eye, taking aim lit up the two dots at the back and the cindering feeling ran up my arm.
“She needs to spread her wings.”
“Follow me.”
Few meters down the productions area, she scanned her hand on a panel and loaded up a protocol for a firing range. Heavy armor plating different distances from each other, the first one had clearly been efficient in stopping the standard caliber round, but the few armor piercing
“Mark, 20 meters.”
Bullets provided, 14 .44 Basilisk rounds, coated in a thin layer of titanium, I loaded 7 into the newly mounted cylinder. Click of the cylinder as it locked in place, I flicked the safety off and took aim.
Let the smile build up on my face as I squeezed the trigger and felt the protocol awaken. Rapid heating, the barrel lit up in orange as I felt the recoil push against my arms, the feeling that had been dormant for a while now, my heart stopped for a moment before resuming its operations, the bullet left the barrel, carried by wings of fire as my systems absorbed the heat. Slight shiver as I caught my breath, the rush of it… still there, stronger than before and renewed like the Phoenix she was, I leaned my head back and raised the barrel up.
“Thank you.”
“You have helped me and my sister, more than you can imagine. We will hold our end of the bargain, I trust you will do the same.”
No fear, I lowered my left hand from the grip and placed it on my chest. She nodded to me and left the production room as I lowered the revolver. The damage to the plates matched the display. First and second panel had taken the brunt of the impact, but the third panel was still intact, the impact mark was still glowing hot as I took aim at the intact part of the plate and braced my hand again.
She shook me all night long, the pure adrenaline felt like a drug as the shells on the table ran thin.
The spark was there, and now, the fire follows.

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Sea urchins can be a pain in the, er, foot. These round critters are coated in defensive spikes. When a bigger animal tries a mouthful — or an unsuspecting human takes an unlucky step — they quickly realize their mistake. The urchin's spines sink in and are notoriously difficult to get out. But three teens saw this animal’s protective technology as something that could aid medicine. They used it to design a way to staple wounds shut.
Sometimes, doctors and nurses will close a big cut with stitches or glue. But other times, they turn to staples. Surgeons can put them in quickly. And wounds that are stapled shut can heal faster than those closed with stitches. But no medical device is perfect. Chae Ryeon Lee, 17, learned that staples could fall out, leaving wounds vulnerable to infection. That inspired the 10th grade student at Incheon Posco Academy in South Korea to start a project with her school science club to redesign medical staples.
At the same time, fellow club member Esther Ji Young Lee, 16 — a junior at the school — was learning about sea urchins. She saw a video about how their spines didn’t come out easily. Curious, she wanted to learn more about them. Esther and Chae began sharing ideas. With the help of Jaewoo Song, 16, and other members of the science club, the teens decided to see if sea urchin spines might offer clues to the design of better sutures.
They started by looking closely at sea urchin spines.
“I tried to use a microscope at school,” Esther says. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t see the spines in enough detail. Her team eventually got to use a scanning electron microscope, or SEM, at Yonsei University in Seoul. This instrument scans the surface of a specimen with electrons. Those that bounce off the object form an image. The SEM imagery brought the urchin spines into crisp detail. Each, they found, had many tiny barbs branching off it. Once the spine was in someone’s foot, those barbs would all but lock the spine in place.
That inspired the teens to put similar backward-facing barbs into their staples. It would let them hook into skin and stay there.

even more ludicrous
Tumblr media
But look! Look how Marco and Law both like sitting on top of things that aren’t seats.
(following on from this post).
Or maybe Law is on a seat (some Polar Tang fold-down kinda thing) but he’s all half-lotus position there. Or maybe not quite so bendy, but he’s still being all laidback and lackadaisical (cos there’s no Luffy), just like I like my one piece men! (again, we’ll just ignore that Luffy is the master of elasticity here).
I’m sure they’re alert within that. Note that Kikoku’s constantly with Law. Wise, considering where they are, and around the Scabbards (all of whom are powerful), but I wonder if his hand and shoulder cramps, huh? Like it must).
But the main point is look below!
Tumblr media
Marco’s older, so he’s got the manners to have at least one leg hanging down (and I dig his sandals—a bitch to take off at the beach though) while he sits back, at ease, on a barrel of rum, or whatever—one leg on its surface, crossed over his knee.
His arthritis is probably kicking in and he might be a wee bit tired from picking up a the Queen Mama Chanter with his talons (did he?) and hurtling it down the waterfall, so he might not have the flexibility to cross both of his legs like the younger ones at this advanced stage of his life (I love him. He’s awesome), or like he did when we first met him.
Tumblr media
But he still manages to fail deportment and rocks disturbance (in a very self-contained, in-control, way). Remember, Kid, Luffy, Zoro and Killer are making a ruckus at this point. Though it’s not really Killer’s fault. He’d be kicking back like this too, planning stuff, if he wasn’t with those three troublemakers :-D .
Point is, both Marco and Law are cruising seating posture and position, ergo, they must be made for each other. (Soulmate fanfictions have been made on less, so don’t come at me! I even used Latin to make it seem rational). Heheh.
Tumblr media
(All the seats in Sabaody were at Shakky’s Rip Off Bar or in the Human Auctioning House)
At the least, Law and Marco should be able to stitch up a few bodies together without hating one another too much. Cos true love is reflected in a bowed spine, and a crossed knee, baby (soulmate fanfic where you check to see if your swayback matches that of your promised beloved).
Fingers crossed the surgeon and the phoenix don’t hate on sight. Shouldn’t do. They both played pivotal roles at Marineford. And you know, paths might not even meet.
Until then, I’ll be happy with mutual casual posturing (of course it’s also cos the Scabbards are massively tall, so this allows the two  not to appear too teeny beside them).
Drawing long (feathered) bows here, man. It’s all I’ve got.

Wearing the right footwear | Davis Orthopaedics - Phoenix | Phoenix AZ
Tumblr media
Inappropriate and unfit shoes can cause muscle & joint pains and sometimes sprains to our feet. To prevent such unnecessary discomfort and give your body the support it needs, here is what you need to know:
The shoes you wear matter. Supportive work shoes can take pressure off your back and spine. The key to choosing the right one for you is to select the one that matches the activity you do the most.
Tight, narrow, and improper shoe wear can lead to bunions, corns, and sprains.
Replace shoes with any signs of wearing in the soles. Worn-out shoes cannot give you the support you need.
Leave about a half inch between your toes and tip of the shoe, leaving you room to move your toes with so much ease.
