If one were to make a giant stuffed bug to ride and/or fight with, what would the ideal bug be?
BRAZILIAN LEAFHOPPER!!
Tumblr media
You can hold onto its giant propeller hat. Whee! I don't know if Sabah can make her creations fly though. Probably not.
For mass transport, I'd say trilobite beetle is closest to riding one of Rachel's dogs. Passengers can sit crisscross applesauce.

It's like a little bus. And sure, Sabah can modify its legs if it feels too close to the ground.
For solo riders she can make a wheel bug (species of assassin bug):

Look at those legs! Get you a guy with piercing-sucking mouthparts.
For fighting: normally for damage I'd say a scorpion (has Sabah ever made a scorpion idr) because pincers and a tail. She can't give them venom or make the points sharp enough though, so while they can hang their gear on the tail, really what she'd want is something with big-ass mandibles and possibly antlers/horns. Skitter had the right idea with the rhino beetle. There is also the stag beetle, but personally? Let's go giant tiger beetle:

It's eating a frog in that second pic, but it could just as easily be a person.

Telling people I can’t watch something in the same way a parent talks about a kid not being allowed to eat a certain candy (because they love it and it makes them ridiculously energetic and annoying for 8+ hours)

Also can we talk about how we hear Kraven request that MJ be kept alive and brought in with SM at one point?? In Kraven's eyes MJ is on the same threat level as Spider-Man with the symbiote. HELLO????

I like the dynamic between Miles and Miguel because Miguel is all “I can’t stand how scared your existence makes me, I can barely handle the weight of one dead universe let alone two, this doesn’t make me any happier than it makes you but it’s the better outcome, you’re just a stupid kid and your universe hasn’t fallen apart yet WHY push your luck?” And Miles is all “it doesn’t have to be that way, I’m not just a stupid kid, this isn’t all or nothing, something can always be done, just because spider man doesn’t always save everyone doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try, nothing is impossible, and I’ll prove it whether you like it or not”

Redline-esque movie about going very very fucking fast but instead of a wacky intergalactic raceway it's set in a psuedo-medieval fantasy setting so instead of cars and engines the main character is gathering up all the potions and spells they can in order to supercharge their fucking horse

I wasn't going to romance Karlach with a durge character but now I think i'm gonna because 1) i watched the resist the urge scenes with all the romanceable characters and liked Karlach's a lot and 2) the Gortash dynamic is fucked and interesting and I didn't really consider that until recently
but I was gonna romance Karlach with a drow cleric of lolth that was like, so chaotically good it maybe circled back to evil. like the energy of typical stereotype drow cleric, but not the morality that fits that stereotype. like a "how dare you be rude to that child I'm gonna fucking kill you" kind of gal
but if I do durge then like rp wise you gotta kinda jump through hoops to make cleric make sense but honestly it would be kinda funny to have a durge drow cleric get out of the pod, recognize that they're a drow, recognize that they're a cleric, and then just be like "....well it must be Lolth right?"

one of these days i need to sit down with the butterfly + spider symbolism from tri98 and write a thing about spiders and silk moths — beings that are both capable of producing silk — and the inherent tragedy of the domestic silk moth (bombyx mori) + dependent plants

Yes. Gib Snyder backstory
C/W: child trafficking
OKAY :D
For context, the guy playing Snyder either works or used to work with nonprofits and is very familiar with the worst parts of how orphanages work, so he's drawing from people he really knew...
ALRIGHT. So Snyder started life as the only child of a very poor couple, but around 9 or 10 they both died very abruptly. Young Snyder was sent to live with his uncle, who ran an orphanage known as The Refuge.
Snyder's uncle had no family of his own, so he immediately started training his nephew to take over The Refuge, something Snyder had absolutely no interest in, but he also had little desire to try anything else. Running the orphanage was at least a guaranteed job, and when he learned as a teenager that the government paid for every child kept in The Refuge he became a lot more interested.
Snyder honestly saw himself as no different from the orphans - after all, he was one too. But instead of this fostering empathy he instead looked down on them. If he had managed to become successful, then the fact they were just wasting space was a sign of their own worthlessness, and he was quick to dehumanize them all in his mind. At the end of the day, Snyder looks out for himself, and all he cares about is making money so he never has to be like his parents or uncle.
Under his leadership The Refuge expanded exponentially, increasing the number of children they accepted and thus increasing the amount of money he was getting from the government for their upkeep. As Jack notes, none of that money went into The Refuge - it all went straight into Snyder's lavish lifestyle. And yet he wasn't satisfied.
Men like Snyder have a way of finding each other, and the man soon secured connections that allowed him to open a little side business out the back of the orphanage. People would pay good money for kids that no one would miss, and Snyder had his pick of children that fit the description perfectly.

2023 Media Thread - Part 63
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
I have mixed feelings about this movie. Not because the movie isn’t good, the movie is really good actually. But ultimately its the first part of a much larger story and until that second part comes around to hopefully successfully complete that story, the whole thing remains unfinished. Its action packed, engaging, and a visual spectacle from beginning to end, but the fact that its really only ‘part one’ prevents it from being fully satisfying. The third film can’t come soon enough.
