Spell effects

The character will have mana to act as a limit to how much magic she can use. To gain more mana, she will have to find a power source. This will be in the shape of either clusters of glowing fireflies or glowing berries that she can harvest from bushes.

The spells will be light based with various symbols and runes, so we are experimenting with different designs.

The character will learn one new spell every level, after she defeats the boss. She starts off with a basic close range attack. After the first level (spoiler alert), she will learn to shapeshift into the cat. We wanted this to come early because we felt this was an important aspect of the game.

Later, she will learn a ranged spell that is more powerful than the first one. We are still debating on how to balance it out, but it will be cooldown-based and be more mana-expensive. Above is an idea of what the spell could look like.

Other items we wanted are glowing fireflies that will swarm in clusters to work as a mana source. The character casts spells so we need a way to balance the character’s power so she can’t just spam spells all the time.
