i know this screenshot above is just way of some algorithm but seeing these books together i am so honored youve allowed me to open my heart and trot out my art in this unique way. having two well received queer horror books (and third on way) is amazing given where i started my trot. thank you

easy to talk on 'death of unique art' these days but if you look at my story it is powerful example that buckaroos have a taste for challenging or untraditional figures in art. this is NOT to my credit, this is to YOUR credit. YOU have supported queer autistic art. i am so moved

i am already a pretty optimistic bud but still BLOWN AWAY by way my trot has been embraced over time. i recognize my perspective is 'strange' to many but to see the way this unique way was once treated with irony and now sincerity has bloomed in its place. it brings tears of joy

As an aroace who frequently feels frustrated by the inability to escape romance and sex whereever you turn, it's easy to become very cynical about the state of media and the uphill battle. So it's definitely really encouraging to see that there's a viable market for aroace-friendly content, one that's significant enough that perhaps in the near future we'll get to see more big media companies catering to that market. And that's in addition to the fact that today's younger generation is a lot more aware of queer identities and diversity than those who have been the big players in media creation for so long now, which means it's very likely that soon we'll get to see more creators who are willing to break away from the narrow standards of character relationships that writers often stick to now.

This article is from October 2023, so it's pretty up-to-date, even though being accustomed to Internet Time makes me feel like I'm super late to this. Anyway, have an excerpt from the article for some highlights:

Teens in the US are wondering why they don’t see more platonic relationships on screen. And that’s just one of many key takeaways from the second-annual Teens & Screens report released today by the Center for Scholars and Storytellers (CSS) at UCLA. [...] When it comes to the types of relationships shown on screen, teens are tired of love triangles and “will they or won’t they” storylines. A majority of respondents (55%) expressed a desire to see more focus on friendships in film and TV.  “While some storytellers use sex and romance as a shortcut to character connection, it’s important for Hollywood to recognize that adolescents want stories that reflect the full spectrum of relationships,” noted Uhls. More than half (51.8%) of all teens surveyed also said sexual content was not necessary in most series and films. Another indicator of what CSS calls a “nomance” trend is the fact that 38% of the teen sample said they are particularly keen to see more aromantic/asexual characters.  On average, all of the respondents ranked romantic clichés among their five least favorite fictional stereotypes. (And that’s quite a shift from when love triangles reigned supreme in fairly recent teen-skewing film franchises like To All the Boys and Twilight.)

Barrister Law USA on Twitter has said the Harkles are living apart. We may be advised to take every post by accounts online ‘with a grain of salt’ but when multiple blogs and accounts are posting the same thing, something must be going on.

Barrister Law is not credible. They’re a lawyer in the southern US who has a medical emergency every time they get called out or challenged by the twitterati. Someone who can’t handle the heat isn’t someone who has trustworthy gossip.

But a broken clock is right twice a day.

And, do you know why we always say “take with salt” when it comes to internet gossip? Because it’s all anonymous sources that cannot be verified from anonymous accounts that cannot be authenticated. We have no idea if everyone is using the same sources. We have no idea if people are making things up. We have no idea if the sources are legitimate or if they have a grudge or if they have actual connections or if there’s bias involved.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again: Just because multiple accounts and blogs are talking about the same thing, it doesn’t mean it’s actually happening. All it means is that those accounts and those blogs are in the same echo chamber and share many of the same users/visitors. That’s why it’s important to diversify where you get your news (or gossip) from, so you get out of that echo chamber so you can see what is really happening.

So for me, when I see the same stories on my spectrum of websites, that tells me something is brewing - because I know liberal publications and bloggers absolutely do not have the same sources as conservative publications and bloggers.

For the record, since many are asking:

CDAN and Enty do completely make things up themselves but they do have good connections to Hollywood PR

DeuxMoi also makes things up and has gone on the record saying they make things up. Not trustworthy at all.

Exposing SMG takes gossip and analysis from other blogs and websites and repackages it as their own.

I do believe that Lady C has sometimes-knowledgeable sources but she keeps moving the goalposts for The Big Sussex Takedown so her accuracy is doubtful. I think she makes some things bigger to keep her audience and viewers engaged.

BarkJack/TLF has bonafide journalism credentials but I doubt their sources are still in the know because everything they take credit for happened years ago and their scoops are so vague (to protect their sources, as they always claim) because it lets them take credit for everything no matter how it actually happens.

Astrology and tarot is all subjective based on the reader and the reader’s own biases and I don’t consider their readings to have any authority until after a prediction has come to pass.

But what I do note about astrology and tarot is that when several people on different platforms who I know don’t know each other are saying the same/similar things, that’s worth paying attention to. And so far, that “universal signal” (if you will) has only happened three times: in mid-2017 when many of these began picking up on a new baby for the Cambridges, in 2020 or 2021 (I’ll have to find my notes to double-check specific dates) when those sites noted a pregnancy loss for the Cambridges, and this summer when they were seeing big changes in store for the Sussexes October/November. While these sites are saying different causes (Sussex divorce/separation, the children and LOS issues, the children’s titles, Charles modernizing, Charles dying, Sussexes returning) they’re all citing October/November timeframe. That’s worth paying attention to, IMO.

I don’t watch any of the royal YouTubers so I can’t comment on any of them.

Reddit is kinda a crapshoot. It’s hit or miss. SMM gets good gossip but the channel and most of its commentariat have huge angry biases against the Sussexes so I always question how much of it is real and how much of it is exaggerated for engagement. The Royal Gossip sub is fairer but they also cover all royals everywhere and sometimes you may have to dig.

Quora is definitely a crapshoot. Christopher Jones/Jackson/Johnson (I forget his last name) started out credible but lately seems to be more fantastist and I’m not sure that he’s as credible or believable any more.

How do you explain the disproportionate percentage of violent/sex crime committed by men, especially on women? Or things like BDSM and in general the lack of empathy men display for women, how they get off to women being hurt?

Genuine questions

There's a bunch of assumptions here that I don't know that you're aware of, stemming from the ideologically-created false-reality tunnels (specifically, Marxism/Feminism) you are looking at human relationships through. It would take a very long time to go into all of them deeply so I'll just try be brief.

Prostitution is often called "the world's oldest profession": women have been exchanging sex for favors, goods and services tens of thousands of years before what Marx termed "Capitalism" came along. I would say the advent of various forms of mass communication, from the printing press to the cinema and television and then especially the internet, has caused that to explode and enter all parts of life more than any political explanation. The decline of religion probably plays a large part too.

I really don't like seeing adolescent girls dressing up like hookers, but I dont have kids so there's not much more I can do about that than express my distaste and disapproval: it's up to the parents of those children to watch over them and monitor what they're watching and how they dress. And you have to ask yourself what side of the political spectrum is pushing for these things: is it religious conservative types who are pushing for taking 5-year-olds along to watch adults simulate sex at drag shows? What political agenda does Hollywood openly promote? What political parties do "sex-positive" feminists vote for?

In intimate partner violence, the reality is both sexes lash out at each other at about equal rates, with women self-reporting hitting their partners more than men. The question you need to ask yourself here is who repeatedly told you to believe something different to that, and why.

When it comes the R word, it's not surprising that more women are counted as victims of that crime than men, when in most of the first world, women simply cannot be charged with that crime when they coerce a male to have sex with them, or initiate sex with a boy under the age of consent.

Women like and fetishize BDSM as much or more than men. That's pretty self-evident if you look at who wrote and bought the millions of Fifty Shades of Grey books, or even at girls' blogs on Tumblr showing the things they find erotic, their fantasies, etc. The last time I went into the subject of women's self-reported sexual fantasies in detail, my blog was terminated, so I'll avoid going further, if that's ok with you.

But generally, I think it's obviously the case that men are far more empathetic and caring for women than women are for men. Again, it's likely you don't see that because of the ideological bubble you are in, but if you really make an effort to objectively note men and women's behaviour, words and actions in your day-to-day life, making a concerted effort to treat both sexes equally and tallying up their scores, I think you will find what I say to be true.

My mentor: Emil Rensing 

Emil Rensing changed my life. I’ve been lucky that as I’ve gotten older instead of completely settling in (though there’s naturally a lot of that too) there are folks around me that kept me from thinking “old.” Scott Webb and the Nickelodeon promo team, the Fred/Alan gang, the great artists and writers in my cartoon lives. But, I must say, I think when the consumer internet came buzzing, I was just about ready to turn off my brain to it and let the yung’uns take over. Jed Simmons tried to stop me, but I was tired, I was done. Then came Emil. 

For many years, like everyone else, my mentors had been older me (excepting Bob Pittman, my original MTV boss, who was two years younger). But when I was almost 50, it flipped on me. And the first kid that started teaching me a lot of stuff was... Emil Rensing. 

Emil has a number of super powers, not the least being a superior, raw intelligence. He’s a computer engineer, sure (he was one of the early employees of the then-revolutionary AOL), but... My experience has been there are engineers who know how to invent things, build things, fix things, but there are few who understand the human who use those things. On the other hand, the folks who can comprehend humans, don’t often have grasp on where technology is going, they can only figure out where it’s been (I’m probably on that spectrum). Emil, he can connect the dots. It’s seems simple when I’m writing this, but trust me it’s not. Emil appreciates, deduces, discerns, interprets, recognizes, penetrates. Emil sees. 

Emil and I met in 1999, but here’s the quick backstory. 

After a try at becoming a record producer, a stint in country radio and cable television, I had somehow or other found myself happily, thrillingly, in the cartoon business. Then, a few months after insisting to a friend that I was happy just learning to be an independent cartoon producer, the internet was for others, I became the first/only president of MTV Networks Online. Just like any other occupation I’ve had, I had no idea what I was doing. 

A friend from the animation biz, Charlie Fink, someone always interested in ‘what’s next,’ had left Hollywood and joined the early, money losing, what-the-fuck-is-this-internet-thing. He suggested I meet a young engineer –Signore Rensing– he’d worked with. I did, and even though –maybe because!– Emil was 25 years younger, I asked him to join my team, he did. 

It’s hard for me to say what happened in the next year, but for me, it was confusing. The company didn’t really want to succeed in the internet, they just wanted some of that internet moolah that was floating around, and I still didn’t know what I was doing other than occupying space. Soon enough, it was clear to me I couldn’t move the company in any useful direction, so it was equally clear I had to quit. When I told Emil I was leaving he announced he’d quit earlier that day.

Spontaneously, I blurted, “let’s start a company together. You keep showing me what the internet will mean to me and I’ll you how to make TV shows.” He agreed and we were in business. Frederator Studios –Eric Homan and Kevin Kolde– kept the cartoon fires burning (My Life as a Teenage Robot, Random! Cartoons, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Adventure Time, et cetera) and we started a media/internet consultancy in New York.  The details don’t matter, we did some good work, we made some TV shows, we started some of the early internet video successes, eventually we started, then sold, yet another new company that paced the world in the new vision of streaming video.

Most importantly, Emil kept me young, kept me smart, helped set my stage for the next 20+ years. Emil Rensing changed my life.

Gen Alpha Scooby Reboot:

Set up/ why traveling: The gang runs a YouTube-like channel supporting their interests (think try guys).

They all work together and show up in each other’s primary videos. They are friends. They also do Watcher-like ghost hunting videos. Which is why they started solving mysteries. We can even have real current YouTuber guest appearances - instead of kiss (a band I love from the 80s). That’s the set up. We see the behinds the camera stuff. Per usual, the gang travels different places using the Internet channel as a reason. Maybe a sponsor wants Daphne to go to a beach to model the new looks. Maybe shaggy is asked to judge a cooking competition in Louisiana. Maybe Fred is going to Daytona to prove a certain stunt is not possible. Maybe Velma is asked to speak at a college. Maybe they collab with someone in Cali. Maybe they are at VidCon. Also the ghost hunting episodes they film all over the country. Once at the location with a plausible set up, they meet a monster. Run around. Find clues. Catch him/her. Unmask them. The usual scooby. They get even more popular when they starts solving mysteries. There is an episode of the dealing with the traditional media criticizing the channel and “pranks”.

The gang loves each other. And supports each other. There is probably an episode making fun of them for being codependent. The ads for the show are the 30sec shorts-3 minute videos that they would post in their channel.

Velma is still the smart one- showing aptitude for research, math, science, etc. She has a little bit of a lack of emotional intelligence, but that is not a huge issue. Because her friends know her heart - Like mystery inc. Maybe she is even in the spectrum. Velma has a video essay going though the origin of myths and monsters (think Monstrum from PBS) and analyzing pop culture spooky media (think the Take or Lindsey Ellis). She is gay with a reoccurring love interest. Apart from her own stuff, she works a lot off screen with Daphne for research for Daph’s stuff, on screen a lot Fred because traps involves physics, and a little with Shaggy for times when food meets science (hello food theory inspo). She is still brunette with a bob, glasses, orange sweater, and red skirt. She can be any race (except Asian because we want to avoid the model Asian stereotype that is harmful). I learn towards Latino likely because I’m from Texas. She must be the shortest person.

Fred is a himbo. He isn’t the brightest, has insane ADHD, and loves his hyperfocus (usually traps, but can also be cars, summer camp, circus, old Hollywood movies, ascots, etc. for certain episodes). He is super supportive of his friends. Fred’s channel is like mythbusters trying practical effects and traps. As the car guy, he also likes car stunts. His bright himbo energy shines through screen. The channel fans theorize that he is dating Daphne because in group videos they pair up all the time and seem to hang out the most off camera. The actual show will never confirm. He sometimes does fashion stuff with her (I mean he wears an ascot). Shaggy and Fred do a work out challenge in the new year to see who is better at more athletic activities. Shaggy wins because canonically he is more athletic (track, gymnastics, etc.). Then Daphne comes in and puts them to shame (blackbelt, surfing, jousting, fencing, etc.). Velma makes money from betting on Daph. Fred is cheering on his friends the entire time. He has golden retriever energy. Loving, respectful, supportive, anti-toxic masculinity and vocal. When asked if he is the leader of the channel, he looks confused and just says he is the loudest. He can sometimes be a little much, but only in the best way. He must be in well fitted jeans and white long sleeve top. He must wear an ascot. He has a barrel chest and muscular arms. He is taller than Velma and shorter than Shaggy. Preferably he has lighter hair than his skin. He can be any race. Maybe make him darker to contrast visually with shaggy. Frank Welker must voice.

Daphne is a girly and adventurous character. She still loves fashion and makeups. In the promos she does an outfit of the day, but it’s for running from Frankenstein. Daphne has a show that is “Mysteries, Make-Up, Mondays” (we pay bailey sarian royalties to play on the name of her show). She puts on makeup while talking about spooky mysteries, huntings, etc. She also is a big fan of more “extreme” challenges the group does (surfing, learning to fight, etc.). She has Eugene energy where she just wins (except she wins if anything adrenaline oriented instead of booze oriented.). People keep trying to peg her as just a pretty face, then she will fly a plane like it’s nothing. She is a slight adrenaline junkie, but somehow keeps it from being her make personality. She is super nice, but has some sass. She loves her friends. She does the most channels cross-over (in prior iterations she has appeared in shows/movies with just shaggy and scoob as well as just Velma). She goes with the flow. Her family is wealthy, but she is not supported by them. They wanted her to have a more traditional job, and thought this was a hobby. But that’s okay because she has the gang. Her sponsors also pay for a lot of the travel because they want her in certain locations wearing their clothing, make up, etc. Per usual, she shows that girly isn’t bad. She must be taller than Velma and shorter than Shaggy. She is a redhead and wears primarily purple with green accents. If she has an identity crisis in an episode, put her is a different color for that one episode. She should have the trendy body troupe for that decade. She should be eye-catching. She can be any race provided that her orange red hair looks good with it. Thanks to K-Pop I lean towards East Asian, but that is my bias.

Shaggy is shaggy. He loves food and his dog. He hates the on-site ghost stuff and can’t understand how his friends love it. But he loves them so he is there (with a lot of Ryan energy). Shaggy obviously has food oriented videos. Some times it’s without a recipe with the gang. Something it’s try the menu. Maybe some (implied) drunk/stoned kitchen. He also may do some reacts to watches to Vincent Van Ghoul movies. Shaggy is a super static character across reboots, so not trying to change much there. My version of shaggy is ace. He is also a vegetarian (per prior voice actor request). Per Scooby Doo Where Are You cannon, his family is wealthy and his uncle owns a castle randomly. I want him to have Fred energy form big hero 6. Like you don’t even realize he is funding things. Then bam there is a 2k gold encrusted pizza he wants to eat and he just pulls out a credit card. After all, channels take money and someone has to pay up. And his diet is $$$. Because he is a coward, athletic and theoretically lights up, I would prefer that he stays white. There are too many negative racial stereotypes around these traits. It’s a minefield.

Scooby- he is the mascot of the channel. He is shaggy’s dog and best friend. He is scooby. Like shaggy he does not change a ton version to version. But I want the slightly more original version that was a a “ham” for the camera. I would also want to lean away from “Dog? Where?” jokes for a while. He is a puppy celebrity. But like D-list because it’s the internet. He is sponsored by his favorite treat, Scooby Snacks. He looks the same as usual, and is a Great Dane (who lacks all the visual traits of a Grate Dane show dog)

Basically, update the set up and add some good inclusive happy vibes.

Inquiring minds want to know, and Dave Portnoy has an inquiring mind. (Warning: major profanity):

George Clooney, what a f------ hero this guy is, huh? Comes forward today — now, this guy threw a fundraiser, raised tens of millions, co-chair for Biden, three weeks ago. Today comes out, he’s like, ‘Guess what? The guy you saw in the debate, that vegetable, that’s f------ Biden, he’s a vegetable. He was a vegetable three weeks ago.’ Acting like he’s doing some heroic thing.

Now, appreciation for internet rants can be in the eye of the beholder, and certainly, Portnoy is a loud, profane personality and has his detractors. He’s dead on here, though—Clooney got to play the Tinseltown hero by raking in huge amounts of cash for Biden, but now he’s belatedly stabbing him in the back weeks later. Not my kind of hero.

It doesn’t take the better part of a month to write an Op-Ed, George. 

One of the things I’ve focused on recently is the apparent astonishment across the Democratic universe regarding Biden’s decline. “I'm shocked! Shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!” they seem to be saying, but like the infamous Captain Louis Renault, played by Claude Rains in the 1942 classic “Casablanca,” they’ve known all along exactly what’s been going on. 

The New York Times, NBC’s Chuck Todd, Democrat lawmakers across the spectrum… They’re all saying, gosh, we didn’t see this coming. Even though the president’s decline has been in front of their—and our eyes—for years now. The dishonesty is off the charts.

I’m guessing Clooney—an extremely plugged-in Demcrat insider with a controversial progressive wife—like so many others, has known for a long time about Biden’s deterioration. But now he wants to be brave and make headlines by calling the president out. Are you just angling for a "Vanity Fair" cover? Where have you been for the last three and a half years, George? 

Portnoy was far from done:

"So what, George? If [Biden] didn’t do the debate… and wasn’t a vegetable, you were just going to keep your mouth shut?" Portnoy continued. "And by the way, if you just found out Biden was a vegetable, where have you been for two years? Everyone knows he’s a vegetable." Portnoy claimed Biden can't "get on and off a stage without getting lost, he talks about dead people like he had lunch with them yesterday. He can’t f------ ride his bike without falling down. He can’t get up and down f------ Air Force One without taking a tumble. No s--- he’s a vegetable. He’s been a vegetable for two f------ years. Democrats don’t care."

Portnoy went on, and there’s plenty more in the above video. But he calls it right in his summation: "It’s all dirty politics." 

Clooney knew, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer knew, Vice President Kamala Harris knew, the list goes on ad nauseam… and yet they all lied to us. The chickens are coming home to roost, and good for Portnoy for calling it out, whatever you think of his style.
