my newest tribute to the wildrp fandom or whatever you'd call it.
vampires au antonio/oliver "crack" ship that i let get out of hand bc theyre actually so fun to draw 🫢 also, i couldnt not make a vampires au, i mean, look at what theyre wearing ! those are pretty much canon outfits !! theyre so [explodes /pos]
also, i'm afraid of twitter so i didnt get to post the actual ship art there 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i dont trust twitter with gay art thats even slightly suggestive lmao esp if its extra toxic yaoi. rptwt sucks ong
Tumblr media
my antonio can do no wrong(/j), so i needed an au where he's a devious little freak who can disturb even the likes of a violent n grumpy oliver.
which, I'll admit, i only know oliver from wu's pov n not much else, but i love what little bit i saw of his personality that i wanted to take what i interpretted n play around w ideas involving antonio,,, cuz i hope i've already established how [debatably] normal i am about him :3c
i'm a big fan of religious themes, so i love the idea of the dicenzo fam following some good ol fashioned italian catholic rules hehe. except antonio, who would've excommunicated or just, lost faith in God in general after his house burns down with his family still inside. and in this au specifically, he messes around with some vampires at some point n yknow, gets turned into one.
when antonio n wu join the family, antonio takes a special interest in oliver just bc he's easily worked up n annoyed. so he likes to pester him just to get a reaction. at some point ollie becomes the vamipre hunter hunting antonio, who causes havoc wherever he goes cuz he's hungry for blood, basic vampire stuff. and antonio likes to lure ollie around to mess with him, and no matter how long he's gone without feeding, he'd never bite ollie just so he'll stay mortal and warm-blooded.
thats basically all ive got. sorry for the wall of text again, i dont have anybody to talk to about my ideas n im too scared to talk abt it on twt [sigh]

What made you think about writing LAWS in the reverse perspective? Felix being obsessive and Ollie being....less
omg.....this is such a good question!!!! hello anon and thank you for this hehehe
okay so I'm pretty sure i had a eureka, light bulb over the head moment but I don't remember what or when exactly it was
BUT! there were a few things that led up to it! I wasn't originally planning on doing another fic and definitely not a long fic, but idk i think i was possessed probably
one of the things that made me go "huh. interesting idea" was reading a post on tumblr about how Felix probably thinks he's in a romcom, how his party outfit is reminiscent of Baz Luhrmann's Juliet in R&J. So that got me thinking about the film from Felix's perspective.
Another thing that also caught my attention is how much this fandom (and me) eats up an obsessive/possessive/jealous lil bitch Felix. I also think there's proof in the film that Felix IS possessive over Oliver.
Barry Keoghan's rizz was also another factor. I can't remember what video or what really triggered it, but I thinkkkk maybe his Hot Ones interview? But I think there was another video way before that too that gave me the initial idea, since I think LAWS originally sprouted in my brain like....20 chapters before WIPIP ended.
I was just like "wow....his power...." and I do think Oliver had like a bit of his charisma, but...what if....i dialed it up to Barry Keoghan's innate level? what if oliver had that goin awn?
I also came up with the line in chapter 7, where Oliver asks if Vee is pretty and when Felix gets defensive and asks why, oliver just responds with "Figured. Y’know, because you are."
i wanted....to use that....so badly once my brain produced it
Oxford days of the film also particularly captivated me, mainly the moments of the montage. The guitar scene was a HUGE contributing factor for me wanting to write LAWS in Oxford days.
why did I do LAWS in modern day?
Primarily because I wanted Felix to vape. truly. that was like the main reason.
Along with just a generally more accepting culture of LGBTQIA+, cellphones, and social media. I wanted to make all of them even worse by giving them access to tiktok <3
So, more or less, I did want to write LAWS as a college romcom, something much lighter and totally different from WIPIP.
I wanted to do it from Felix's POV because WIPIP was more predominantly Oliver (despite switching POV each chapter; it was still very much Oliver's story and we all tended to view the story as a whole from his POV).
The reversal of role was motivated by Felix being the possessive one first!!! This was a SUPER long answer and I'm going to include a bit more beneath this, but warning: It contains spoilers for PART ONE of LAWS!
DON'T READ BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED LAWS PART ONE!
------
I was also just really interested in exploring the Quick family. In the film, we view them as kind people who care about their son, which y'know, makes oliver look terrible for his lies.
HOWEVER! There has to be a reason that Oliver is what he is. Obviously, people develop individuality on their own and not everything is a product of nurture vs. nature, but I do believe that there's something to that. Parts of us can be a product of our environment.
Also, if you've read my past writing, you know I really enjoy religious themes, specifically Christianity.
Fun fact, but I am and have been atheist my whole life, my whole family is. I've never attended a church service.
BUT i am extremely fascinated by it (which def reflects in my writing lol) and enjoy exploring all the ideas, stories, and culture. I did notice in the film that Paula wears a cross necklace, which kinda indicates that they are religious in some variation.
What if the Quicks always knew that Oliver was bisexual? What if they never spoke of it? Oliver, always on his own at school. Never had any friends. Why were his parents OKAY with that?
Personally, if my parents noticed something like that they'd want to have a conversation with me or my school: was I being bullied? were there any issues on the playground? why did I not have any friends?
Instead, Paula uses excuses of him being "so clever", kind of brushing off her son's loneliness? idk, they very clearly love their son, but there are some little indications that Oliver struggled in his youth and his parents never really addressed it? (obviously all of this is just a theory and think i've kinda come up with)
SOOOOO i wanted to investigate that in modern day. The kind of outdated and conservative ideals of a religious family and their bisexual son. (of course still happens all over the world, but in my personal life I feel like I don't hear about this experience as often. I live on the west coast of the USA which I think is a contributing factor)
AND I WANT TO SAY I hope that my stories and references to religion are never harmful to those that are religious. I try hard to be respectful and honest with information.
I find religions to be super interesting and never intend to be insensitive! I try to do a lot of research, but obviously as someone kinda standing outside and looking in, I may get things wrong.
I don't intend for LAWS to be disrespectful towards Christianity; I'm merely trying to write a story about what has and is happening to many LGBTQIA+ youths in strict religious households. I know of many religious families that unequivocally love their queer children, but there's always the other side of the coin.
anyways!!! longest answer ever!!! sorry for this word vomit!!! and thank you again for such a wonderful question hehe

My favorite fix-it au is the one where Oliver's parents are actually poor, and his dad dies. so here are some very specific cattonquick winter break headcanons. mostly Oliver's pov because I relate to being poor and in love with Felix
it's the winter break of their sophomore year
they are already dating
(still took them a fucking eternity to get together. I'd say they started dating at the end of Oliver's first summer at Saltburn. Felix was getting tired of making moves with no reciprocation, and Oliver just didn't know???? that he was???? making moves???? on him???? and at the end of the summer Oliver had a massive panic attack because he got so used to them being together all the time, and he wasn't sure they'd be this close at oxford. and because Felix is his entire support system, he goes to him for comfort. my poor boy. Felix is scared and is like 80% sure Oliver's mom died or something. then he's even more scared because Oliver is crying and panicking but doesn't want to talk about it. then Oliver whispers, "I just don't wanna lose you, I really fucking love you, Felix". and Felix is like "shit, Ollie, mate, are you telling me we could've been done with all this pining stuff like four months ago?")
but I digress. they are already dating
Oliver is invited to Saltburn for Christmas. because Christmas is a family holiday and Felix always celibates at home
Felix has to negotiate no gifts for visitors policy with his mother because there is no way Ollie would feel comfortable exchanging paperback books for some antique watch
(btw sorry for my unreliable depiction of british upper-class society. I'm poor and eastern european)
Oliver stays at Felix's room this time. and it's a little awkward because everyone knows, but at the same time perfect because they can stay in Felix's bed for as long as they want, go have some breakfast, and come right back to cuddling in Felix's bed
the dinner is great if a little Catton family intence. they also have this awkward moment when everyone decides to talk about how much they support gay rights
(Oliver is wearing old Felix's clothes, obviously. it feels really comforting and only a bit embarrassing)
Felix lays on Oliver's chest (because he's the ultimate little spoon, and I'll die on this hill) and tell him about his family and their weird rich people holiday traditions
Oliver plays with his hair in pure fucking bliss and adds something from time to time so Felix knows he hasn't fallen asleep
and then Felix has to bring this shit up again
ever since they went to Oliver's mom, Felix decided he needed to fix this woman's life and her relationship with her son for the sake of solving all Oliver's problems
(they haven't talked for two weeks when Oliver found Felix was paying his mother's therapy bills. Felix was terrified they might break up. Oliver mostly avoided him and cried)
so Felix once again says how nice it would be to go to Oliver's mom for the New Year
it's the same argument they keep having, really. Felix says, "she is trying to get better." and Oliver responds with, "but does she? get any better?" if he has energy to argue about it. most of the time he doesn't
because for his whole life, Felix only encountered broken things he was able to fix. and Oliver doesn't have it in himself to show Felix that some broken things can not be fixed or are not worth the effort to do it. because he's scared Felix would see he's just one of those broken things
so he agrees
the flat is cleaner than Oliver remembers from his childhood but is still probably the filthiest place Felix has ever seen
they still decide to clean the kitchen before making dinner (and have to do an enormous amount of googling first because Felix grew up in a mansion, and Oliver grew up in a dysfunctional family, not ideal circumstances to develop any useful skills really)
they planned the dinner in the car. something Felix likes, something Oliver knows how to cook, something they've seen at the dining hall on the last New Year
Oliver's mom gives them money to buy food, but it doesn't cover half of what they planned. Felix pays for everything like it's nothing. and Oliver wants to die from embarrassment on the spot. because yes, Felix knows he's fucking poor but knowing and seeing are too different things
the dinner itself is awkward. they don't know what to talk about. his mom doesn't really know what he studies or does in his free time. and he isn't any better, all he knows is that she drinks and goes to AA meetings. she is also not openly homophobic, but she does that thing where she acts like Felix and him are just really close friends. or maybe it's the way she would've treated his girlfriends, too. he wouldn't know, Felix is the first person he brought here
at midnight, they eat a surprisingly decent cake Oliver's mom brought from a local bakery. his mom doesn't drink because she is "two months sober" (it's not than Oliver doesn't believe her, he just doesn't think it makes any difference now) and goes to sleep shortly after
Oliver invites Felix for a walk
they go along the streets, Oliver grew up walking, and drink a bottle of champagne Oliver brought in his bag
Felix doesn't ask about his family. but he asks about school, books he saw in old Oliver's room, local urban legends (he's weirdly fascinated with them), and his favorite childhood snacks
Oliver answers. he also can't stop looking at Felix ever since he noticed snowflakes on his eyelashes
they finish the bottle, kiss a little before heading back to Oliver's mom place
they sleep on a tiny bed in Oliver's old room (smaller than ones in oxford dorms if it's even possible). it takes Felix about an hour to fit himself properly
(all the jokes Felix made about having sex in both their childhood rooms end up being just jokes because there's not much you can do when it took all of your concentration just to stop yourself from falling off the bed)
in the morning, Oliver's mom cooks them eggs. she also hugs Oliver really tight before they leave. Oliver doesn't remember her hugging him like this when he was leaving for the first time
Felix looks proud of himself, and Oliver doesn't feel like pointing out an empty bottle in the trash, the one they didn't drink. instead, he chose to believe for a day that relapse is actually part of recovery, and other things Felix keeps telling him about
they drive to oxford mostly in silence. a great, comforting one. sometimes Felix tells him some campus gossip, and they make bets on who slept with whom during the break
Oliver is a bit tired, and his back hurts. but he also feels okay. feels great. feels like there's no other shoe to be dropped any time soon

Anyone want more facts about this guy? ^^^
Too bad because your getting them:
- Ollie is 26 years old, he’s been working at the ccc for a total of 3 years.
- current voice claim for Ollie, is Martin Blackwood from the Magnus archives.
- he was originally made as a minor character for a thsc rp I’m in, but then Sam happened and we started to develop the two more and eventually from there, we got the Ollie we have today!
- Ollie joined the ccc after he was suggested (and heavily pressured) into by his…. Less than good… ex partner.
- he doesn’t have any powers, he’s just kinda a average stick… except for one thing.
- After an event where his ex broke Ollie’s coding slightly, ollie has been having “dreams” of other timelines of himself. These “dreams” often are from the pov of whatever alternate version of him is there and while these “dreams” are harmless (at least physically), sometimes they contain stuff which…. Causes Ollie a LOT of distress.
- Ollie’s favourite food is bagels, he doesn’t really have a specific favourite combination of toppings, but he does tend to have cream cheese bagels more than other types.
- Ollie LOVES music, (heck- he probably would’ve tried to get a career in it, if it wasn’t for the ccc) he mostly listens to video game music and lofi when he’s stressed out.
- oh did I mention Ollie’s ex is actually, Trevor-? I don’t think I did.
- Ollie has two main fears, a fear of deep water (caused by multiple in-counters with a certain water based entity that has tried multiple times to kill him), and a fear of losing his mind (mostly more towards the “becoming feral” side.) caused by working in the ccc for a while and seeing some…. Stuff….
- Ollie has around 6 siblings. Mit baker (oc), Matteus guardsmith and Quentin alabaster as well as two others which are the ocs of a close friend of mine. Unfortunately ollie was put up for adoption as a young kid, (mainly because his parents realised they didn’t have the finances to care for 6 kids.) so he doesn’t know much about his family.
- family wise, he’s closest to his sister Mitzy, they both love video games and have had experiences with bad exs so they understand each other a lot.
- he is currently taken!! His current partner is Samuel C. Adams (a Oc by another close friend) and he’s a goofy boi, Ollie loves his current partner a lot. <3333
- Ollie x Sam’s ship name is catsamwich, because CATwell and SAM-wich, like… like sandwich… and because cat’s do a loaf…. lol-
- his headphones and hoodie are comfort items, he tends to have a habit of playing with his hoodie strings or headphones when nervous. the ccc didn’t originally like him wearing them instead of uniform but they quickly gave up once they realised Ollie was not gonna take them off.
- local 2nd ccc punching bag along with Kyle Baxter, someone help these two they need a rest…
- definitely a introvert.
- probably has anxiety and autism, just undiagnosed.
Annnnnnnnnnndddd-
That’s all the facts I can remember for now about him!
He’s goofi-

Uh..doing this out of boredom!
SPOILER WARNING!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Out of the main 6, my favorite in Dreamworld/Headspace is Basil. Out of the main 5 in real-world, my favorite is Kel.
2. My favorite side/NPC character is Kim.
3. My favorite songs from the OMORI ost would have to be Duet, Bready Steady Go, and You Were Wrong, Go Back.
4. My favorite boss is Bossman Hero.
5. The photos from Basil's photo album I liked most was the one picture of Aubrey eating a watermelon, and the arm-wrestle between Hero and Kel.
6. My favorite area in Headspace is the park area.
7. My favorite area in Blackspace is the main area itself, where you can see all the doors, and the one room where Basil explodes like a watermelon.
8. My favorite area in Faraway Town is the "hidden spot" in the park.
9. I like Real-world more. I don't have a specific reason why, though if I had a reason, I'd say because it feels like I spend hours in Headspace when playing the game.
10. Favorite ships? Hm.. I like cactiflower, suntan, and of course, HeroMari.
11. I kin Basil and Kel! I kin Basil because of his personality, which should already be enough.. hopefully. I kin Kel because of his personality, but also because of the way he is perceived from others' POV's.
12. My fav route in the game is to keep going outside every possible chance. My favorite ending in the game is the True-Ending.
13. I have very few I can think of right now, but one of the main ones I have is that Kel and Hero hug people tightly, though of course, Hero hugs more gently.
14. My favorite moment in the game is when Aubrey, Kel, Hero, and Sunny all hug together in real-world.
15. Something that stood out to me the most was Basil's obsession for Sunny.
16. Well, I think my fav might be obvious if you know my blog, but I like- Kel's skill "TICKLE" In game.
17. My favorite boss fight is fighting against Bossman Hero.
18. For me, the annoying part is having to grind levels because your level is "too low" so you can't defeat a boss until you grind more, which is a huge hassle for me.
19. Something I dislike about OMORI?!😲. Uh..nothing? ((If I think of something, I'll update this later.))
20. Something I wish was different about the game? Same thing as last question.
21. If I could change or add something, it would be adding more cutscenes or details in real-world and more details about characters interactions because--as we see that, for example, Aubrey and Hero don't really talk much. I wish there was at least some detail/or interaction between characters that don't talk to eachother much.
22. My reaction went kinda like this: "😶😮😲🤐...Damn.."
23. I was kinda just like- was in shock, but amazement when Sunny just- looked so unfazed falling down a hospital building. The amazement part being how the music just started playing, as I thought: "Wow..the build up..lead to a tragic ending but an amazing song choice." For the neutral endings, I was kind just like: "😶..." In shock I guess?
24. A scene that genuinely scared me was when I first played the game and encountered "DOROTHI" on the train. The music creeped me out, and so did the appearance of Dorothi.
25. In my opinion, the scariest things in the game are when you encounter the different variants of "SOMETHING" aka, MERCI, DOROTHI, CINDI, etc.
26. I do not unfortunately :(
27. Omori changed me in a...hard to describe way. Anytime I just- think about the endings, the truth, and everything in deep thought, it makes me have an odd feeling in my stomach of uneasiness. Though, it made me happy when certain scenes/frames, go on screen.
28. I actually made a good amount of friends, though I'll name 3, or rather 2. I met an amazing best friend of mine through it, a really cool, smart, and nice friend of mine named 'Ollie', and- I used to be friends with the famous omori, gacha, youtuber named 'DANI'.
29. Yes, OMORI had led me down a huge rabbit hole. It led me to a game called "Needy Streamer Overload" and I absolutely love it. It also let me to a game called "Yume Nikki" which, I haven't played yet but hear that it's good. So, I plan to go into 'Yume Nikki' blind!
30. OMORI is special to me because it has an amazing plot, characters, areas, soundtracks, and everything! I genuinely like it a lot, and try to get as many friends as possible into it.
31. YES! OFC!!! I want a hug too! 😭
hiii bb 🐸
🐝: truth is the first casualty by karples karples is the best dickroy writer out there tbh but this one is quite possibly one of my favourite ones ever. it's set in the gotham city garage universe which is such an interesting comic, rife with potential if done right but I digress. it's roy's pov, and just so layered with how he perceives dick and how much of it is jaded by roy's own perceptions of himself. i always think of that one quote from the arsenal limited series where ollie is dead and roy's internal narration: the navajo talk about death as a journey. some nights i pretend he’s just off on another road trip. and then i just get mad that he didn’t take me. as usual. to me, that was one of roy's primary characteristics and this fic is a perfect encapsulation of that. there's something so tender and heartbreaking about their interactions in it. i come back to re-read this one every few weeks.
🕷️: removing the mask by penglaive fix-it multi-chapter fic, primarily jason and bruce centric. multiple povs. dick, tim and babs also make appearances. basically, bruce and the JL get a very specific type of amnesia where he forgets he's batman and no one can convince him that he is. cue reconciliations where bruce wayne grapples with the resurrection of his previously-dead son and there's no batman to get in the way. very rich, densely packed with character complexities and narrative nuances. also an excellent social commentary on crime and vigilantism and what exactly doing good in a city like gotham means. bruce's chapters are sooo special because you can see how much of bruce is batman even when he's not batman and just how deeply guilt lives in him. also god, just bruce and his fucking bleeding heart. he cares sooooo much.
Hi! Fellow Saltburn enthusiast here! I have a question, and I’ve actually already sent it to a couple of accounts who also write extensively about Saltburn. I’d love to hear your views!
Why do you think Oliver didn’t try to kidnap/imprison/blackmail Felix into being with him instead of just jumping to murder? He was clearly capable of manipulation and probably could have found a way to keep an unwilling Felix around if he managed to get away with so many murders? I feel like even in the haze of desperation and panic it sort of should’ve struck him that killing Felix meant a lifetime of misery? It wasn’t exactly a spur of the moment kill, there was some amount of premeditation involved. I was honestly confused at how quickly Oliver made a decision that basically ensured he’d never feel a sliver of happiness ever again. How did he even manage to sleep after, knowing what he had done to Felix? The whole sequence where they look for Felix and eventually find the body is so gut wrenching to me. The music, the foreboding, the cinematography ughhhh.
Thanks for the ask anon! Ok so, I'm going to break this down in sections because there's a few different points to tackle!
Oliver does have the capability of doing horrible things, but I also do not think he's a great planner. He can only think ahead so much. And while I think that he could, arguably, find a way to kidnap Felix or find a way to blackmail him, this is contrary to what I think his goal is. I quote Cheap Trick (though I prefer the Letters to Cleo version): "I want you to want me/I need you to need me/ I'd love you to love me/ I'm beggin' you to beg me." Oliver isn't like the one guy from 365, he wants Felix to cede of his own accord and his own will. Yes, there is a level of emotional manipulation re: the lies about his family. However, I do think that when Oliver says: "I'm still the same person!" he is right. Outside of the way in which he hooked Felix, he would have no reason to be different. Stands to reason, in my opinion, that he is who he is with Felix bar exaggerations and implications of his past.
Let's talk about murder...Oliver only murdered Elspeth. He facilitated the deaths of Felix and Venetia. Murder not only requires intent, it requires certainty beyond a reasonable doubt of direct action. I was raised by lawyers so I view things through that lens. At most, if we were going by American law, which is the one I know, he would arguably fall under the category of voluntary manslaughter. Why? Because he did not directly do an act which led to Felix and Venetia's deaths. Rather, he put the dominos in place and that can be classed as a provocation; he provoked them in a way that led to their deaths. (Note: I am not delulu, I am aware that all of this is wrong. I'm just trying to put it forth from a legal POV.)
When it comes to Felix, he hastily put cocaine in the champagne and I do not think he thought it through way in advance. Secondly, he had the bottle in his hand for large parts of the maze conversation and deciding to give it to Felix was a spur of the moment action. Third, he had no way of knowing whether Felix would drink or not. Fourthly, Felix had ALREADY been doing drugs and you cannot specifically pinpoint, beyond a reasonable doubt, that it was the little bit of cocaine he drank (which, from research, would actually have been less potent and less quick to get into Felix's bloodstream than the lines he snorted) that caused him to OD. Fifthly, I am not entirely convinced that Oliver knew it was going to foolproof kill Felix. The way he wakes up the morning after still has the stink of hope. So, I can't be certain either way if his intent was to kill or to simply cause Felix to OD to the point he was taken to a hospital and then Ollie could Nurse Nightingale the situation.
When it comes to Venetia, Oliver did not tell her to use the razors. He placed the razors on the tub. He did so relatively impulsively (likely, imo in a bit of rage) and at the last minute. He had absolutely no way of knowing whether Venetia would take the razors and he had no way of knowing that she would use them in a deadly way rather than in a way to hurt herself but not kill. Further, from the bit that we get of the crime scene in the bathroom (I did pause it so I kinda memorised), there is no indication in the scene that Oliver was actually the one to use the razors. The scene would look entirely different and his clothes would be soiled or he would have blood on him, etc.
That being said, Oliver's desperation and panic and anxiety regarding the situation with Felix likely led him to the following thought: he would rather exist in a world where Felix ceases to exist, than exist in a world where he is inexorably removed from Felix. Felix was and continues to be Oliver's whole world. He likely thought that he was going to lose Felix either way. But, in Felix dying, he and Felix stay inherently connected. He can leave Saltburn but now he and Felix are forever linked. Elspeth, for example, automatically associates Oliver with Felix. It's why Oliver knew he had an in with her all those years later. Further, and I think I wrote this elsewhere, Felix's headstone will ALWAYS have Felix's date of birth, and the date of Oliver's 20th birthday. They are linked in this way as well.
I think it was all very rushed and confused when he did any of it. I think there might've been a chance for him and Felix even in the sense of friendship. But Oliver reacted emotionally and impulsively. He didn't plan putting the cocaine in the bottle probably until a couple of minutes before he did it. He didn't plan the thing with Venetia. He didn't plan getting Saltburn from the start. The only thing he planned and orchestrated was a Romcom style meet-cute. That was it. The rest he made up as he went along from noticing all the little details about Felix. But ultimately, above all, this weird little man wanted to be wanted and wanted to be loved by the object of his affection. Forcing the matter with kidnapping and/or blackmail was not going to get him what he truly wanted anymore than Felix's death did.
How does he manage to sleep? Self-medication, certainly. Pretty sure he yo-yo's uppers and downers like crazy. Coke to dance like the lonely mad king he is in the afternoon, Xanny or weed at night to come down and sleep. What's more, Saltburn is an extension of Felix and it, likely, comforts him to be in a place that represents Felix. A place that is haunted by the ghosts of memories he shared with Felix to which we are not privy.
Also, yes. Finding Felix's corpse, the whole scene, is stunning and staggering and heartbreaking. Absolutely stunning film craft involved all the way around.
Sorry for the loooong response, but I am a lawyer's daughter and an English Literature major, so I had to write my mini essay with some level of (certainly biased) evidentiary support.
Writing Tag Game
Thanks for the tag @lord-aldhelm! :)
About me
When did you start writing? Age 16, during school, but I didn't technically start writing fanfiction until my 20s. I was recovering from a nasty surgery and had nothing but time on my hands and so I started to write as a way to pass the time.
Are there different genres or themes you enjoy reading other than the ones you write? I enjoy reading a lot of horror/thriller books, and law dramas too.
Is there an author you want to emulate, or are compared to often? Oh gosh, that's a tough one! As much as I love Bernard Cornwell, Stephen King, Mari Mancusi, and too many author authors to name, I want to say no, I'm not compared to anyone that I know of, but ultimately I want to still sound like "me" when I write.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space? I have my own writing office. A desk that I keep with minimal clutter but have made it into a cozy ambiance so when I sit down to write most nights I'm not distracted (much).
What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse? Honestly, most of my muses tend to come to me while either dreaming at night time (random but it happens) or while I'm bored at my day job and letting my mind wander and it starts to go into "What If" mode...
Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and/or places you write about? No.
Are there any reoccurring themes in your writing? If so, do they surprise you? Redemption is a troupe I will never get tired of. Also romance!
Characters
Would you please tell me about your current favorite character? I have to pick just one? Lol. Joking aside, Thyra from The Last Kingdom is probably my favorite character right now. She's a woman who's suffered so much torment and abuse and is absolutely the definition of "deserved better." And since Beocca is her husband and I can't bear to separate the two, I would say Beocca/Thyra are a package deal here. But a few close seconds are Jack/Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas) and Finan/Eadith, the ship for The Last Kingdom that should have been and sadly never will be.
Which of your characters would you be friends with in real life? Hmm, definitely Thyra/Beocca, and he'd probably annoy me, but I think I'd get on with Haesten too (TLK) even though he's a weasel on the show, and for Harry Potter, probably my OCs Norah and Ollie Black from my Harry Potter fanfics as well, I think we'd get on great. Oh, and Jack/Sally from my Nightmare Before Christmas fics.
Which characters would you dislike the most if you met them? Aethelwold, Tidman (Last Kingdom), Voldemort (Harry Potter)
Tell me about the process of coming up with your characters? Most of them are already made for me but for the few OCs I have, I tend to just find pictures I like online of people that I think fit the image of the character I have in mind, and then I build a character sheet for him/her and go from there. (sort of like a character sheet for DnD)
Do you notice any reoccurring themes/traits in your characters? Anger management issues (Beocca!), stubbornness, and perhaps a little naive (definitely Thyra and Sally for sure),
How do you picture your characters? I'm a big fan of Mood Boards on Pinterest but I also dabble a little in Photoshop and make my own character manips/images to use to have pulled up to look at while I write in their POVs. It might sound odd but it helps me imagine their look while I write and also to get into their headspace.
My writing
What’s your reason for writing? To fulfill a void the canon source material left in my heart or just because I came up with a "What if this happened" instead of the way that it did in canon.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment from readers that you find particularly motivating? Any and all comments are welcome, especially at this time when comment culture in fandom, at least for fanfics, has definitely changed since I've been a part of it!
How do you want to be thought about by your readers? As a good writer? Lol, not really sure how to answer this one. Hopefully good and that my stories made them happy if they enjoyed them!
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer? Angst and drama
Have you been told is your greatest strength as a writer is by others? Angst and writing character voices true to their forms
How do you feel about your own writing? Most of the time I feel like it's okay, but I do have spells where I look at chapters and think I could improve that or do better next time and then I struggle not to totally overhaul what I already have posted lol, a curse for me, honestly. I'm constantly working to improve. I suck at smut/fight scenes though, I would say those are my two biggest weaknesses.
If you were the last person on earth, would you still write? Yes, if only to keep myself company and maybe read my stories out loud.
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, do you write purely for yourself, or is it a mix of both? I write purely for myself and I treat where I post as an archive of sorts, with the mindset that I put them there where they'll be safe if something ever happens and my computer goes on the fritz, but if others happen to come along and enjoy the content I create, then that's an added happy bonus!
Feel free to play along! @holy3cake; @silverhyenaart; @foundtherightwords
three new garages x qsmp additions from my listen to the garages entire discography on shuffle session today:
go down (or fall) - the end and the aftermath of purgatory. there’s so many lines that reflect different povs of the last day and what little we’ve seen of how they’re coping after. a lot of maxo and spiderbit specifically.
ollie mueller's seen it all - this is another maxo song i don’t think it needs any explanation just look at the lyrics.
the offseason (won't keep us away) - sooo many qsmp characters have sustained permanent injuries in their time on the island. this especially feels like a forever song, given recent circumstances.
Hi! For the writer ask: 20-41 😘
Wait is that 20 through 41? I thought it was just 20 and 41 at first.  Well, I have time and can’t concentrate on writing fic now so why not; I’ll answer 20 and 41 and the ones I’m feeling in between.
Thank you!!
20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
I wish I was better at identifying patterns in my fics because I’m sure I have far more than I have find.  I think joy is a common emotion, I think my fics have a general atmosphere of light even when something more serious or scary is happening.  For more technical things I think I fight my automatic habit of run on sentences so hard that I end up with shorter than average length sentences at some points while still having very long sentences at others.  I don’t have too much dialogue because that’s something that’s difficult for me to write.
21. Would you ever collaborate with another writer for a story?
Maybe?  I like the idea in theory of collaborating with someone whose fic I like.  But also: I suck at conversations, school group-project trauma, seems so time consuming.  Writing fics inspired by each other is great though!
22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)
I am not ruling anything out! But of course, some things are more unlikely such as things that squick me out.
25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?
Probably This is the Best Way to See America.  But it’s a long fic in a shrinking fandom that is incomplete and has no ships.  So by that metric I think it’s done okay.  Just the amount of response for the amount of time I’ve put into it (because it’s so long) is small.
26. Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
Well, This is the Best Way to See America has to be it.  Because it’s long and weird, but it’s not what I’d normal label a wild ride.
27. What is your most and least favorite part of writing?
Answered
28. On average, how much writing do you get done in a day?
Not much! 😅 On days I actually write I probably average maybe 100-400 words.  But I don’t write at all many days.  It’s very rare for me to write more than maybe 800-1k words in a day (happened twice I think, not that I keep close track.)
29. What’s your revision or editing process like?
I edit as I go usually.  Then when I finish, I usually sleep on it then look it all over the next day and either post it or send it to my beta-reader depending on the fic.
33. Do you want to be published some day?
Not really, it sounds like far too much work and stress.
34. Five years from now, where do you see yourself as a writer?
Hopefully still having time and motivation to do so.  And maybe having written for some other fandoms and so longer fics too.
36. How do you write kissing scenes?
Ideally with a lot of time spent imagining it 😳
37. How do you choose where to end a chapter?
I don’t feel I’ve written the kind of stories this question is geared for.  I feel there are clear end points in all my multichapter fics.
38. Would you ever write commissions?
I don’t think so.  I’m stressed enough writing for myself and for attention.
39. Share a snippet from a WIP
Here is a bit from my Joker Out fic:
Despite Bojan’s tardiness this morning, it’s looking like they’ll make their flight from Amsterdam to Ljubljana.  Nace knows it’s too soon to count on everything going smoothly – Nace hasn’t been with this band that long but he’s been with them long enough to learn they have an air-travel-specific travel curse.  Usually it’s lost baggage, but Nace thought today it might have been a lost Bojan. However, Bojan had made it – just in time and with traces of green chalk powder in his hair hinting at where he may have spent last night.
And a bit from TITBWTSA (this chapter has been in progress for ages):
“Ooh, look at that bird,” Olli said suddenly, interrupting the flow of conversation between Joonas and Niko. Joel turned quickly towards Olli, then towards the direction he was pointing into and saw yet another bird.  This one was a little bigger than the brownish-blackish ones on the table, and it was bright orange and black.  It would have been quite pretty, if it wasn’t a bird and so close. It was perched on a trash can only a meter or two from the table they were seated at. “That one is pretty,” Niko said, “I wonder if I have anything in my pockets for it.”  He began digging through his pockets. “Please don’t feed the birds,” Joel said.  He didn’t want to encourage more to come. “There are a lot of birds here, someone must feed them,” Joonas said, “look at that red one over there.” Joel where Joonas was pointing to see a bright red bird perched on a branch of the nearest scraggly tree. “Some seagulls too,” Olli said, nodding towards the far end of the lot. Joel looked that way and saw a half dozen seagulls standing on the ground.  As Joel watched, he noted that they seemed to be shuffling gradually closer.
40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Oooh, I would be so excited!  It would depend on their style a lot actually.  The first thing that jumps to mind is Niko first discovering the glade and Olli in Chill.  For someone whose art is more focused on the characters rather than backgrounds, maybe the beginning bit of A Privilege of Olli and Aleksi on the bed or something with the daemons. Or just almost any part of the bear fic, if the artist can draw bears 🙂
41. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
I have reread all my fics after posting, except the latest one and TITBWTSA.  I write for me!  For fics I didn’t write, I reread some of my favorite fics too.  Not as much as I have in the past because I’m reading in multiple active fandoms and at least looking at the tags/summary of everything in the tags for each, so I have so many new fics to try.  But there are many fics I have read over and over, including ones I’m not in the fandom at all for anymore (or never really was, e.g. treasured and much reread Star Trek fic vs. how little of the material I’ve actually watched and how little I’ve engaged the fandom.)
So I've been having a problem with The Crows Death:tm: for a while, but maybe have a solution? Hello, void, I'm here to yell again.
A big part of TCD is that Andy - POV character 1 - gets kidnapped and held hostage for most of the book by people who are inherently prejudiced against him - Foxes. I'm excited about the Foxes, I think they have an interesting dynamic with each other, with him and their culture.
Sadly, Andy himself is not at all interested in their culture, and the stupid man is too invested in getting himself free to even consider taking note or wondering what they're doing and why they're doing it.
The other POV character I have - Atlas, beloved - is mostly out of the Fox-ish picture, following in Andy's footsteps to try and help him and dealing with Mental Turmoil, so is also not too interested in what Fox rituals and ceremonies and traditions.
This has dissuaded me from writing for a while, in all honesty. I wanted to talk about the Foxes and what they're up to. The few snippets I had managed to write were focused on their traditions and interactions, and it made me paranoid that I was side-lining the POV characters. I felt rather lost and confused with the story, not sure how to do what I wanted and tell a compelling and logical story as well.
And then I remembered the Best Character of the story.
See, there's two POV characters, and then three major secondary characters - Dolly, Andy's official bodyguard and royal necromancer, Olly, her brother and Atlas's partner... and Sam, travelling healer and very enthusiastic sociologist.
Even if she only sees the tail end and remnants of Fox camps, long after they've moved on, she'll recognise at least a few traditions, the signs of rituals that Andy perhaps witnessed but didn't know what they were for. And she will tell everyone who'll listen about them.
In retrospect, it's very obvious. I was focusing too intently on the POV characters and what they'd understand, and side-lining the others. But hey, I figured it out in the end, and it makes me excited! Andy can see something and then Sam can fill in the context for it without him there! So he's left unaware and focused on his escape, and the reader gets to know what the vibe is!
Could even be a fun thing of like. She notices some certain sigils or herbs burned or something, and is like oh these specific herbs are used for only two ceremonies - there's this one, that forewarns a gruesome but justified murder, or this one, gives the benefits of Nice Breath. The only difference is if they burn it in a pot or just raw. Previously, Andy would have noted it was burned raw, meaning Gruesome Murder, but the others are like. Well let's hope it's Nice Breath????
Dunno what this ramble really is but you have it now. Maybe a lesson in trying to notice the obvious answer when it's sitting in front of you rather than trying to be clever. Or taking a break from stories sometimes, let the mental eels settle.
[wattpad link] [last chapter]
Luca’s POV:
“Thank you all for coming. Now, let’s discuss what we know so far.”
Luca, along with Norma & Beau, were at Mateo’s house. They, along with Ollie (who was not at the meeting), were the only 5 people left alive. It was crazy to Luca how so many people could die in just a short amount of time, & the only way Luca isn’t losing her mind right now is thinking to herself that they weren’t actually dead.
Mateo wheeled out a whiteboard with a couple words on there, but not much else in terms of information. “Alright. What do we know about this guy so far, & how can we stop them?
“Well, they’ve obviously trapped us all here, & they obviously had some way to do that. They’ve gotta have a lot of money if they’re able to knock us out & bring us to.. wherever this place is.” Beau said. “Alright, alright,” Mateo nodded, writing down “rich” on the board. “Anything else?” “They’re connected to Ollie, in one way or another. Remember what happened yesterday?” Norma said. “How could I forget?” Mateo wrote down the words “connected to Ollie” on the board. “Anything else?”
The room went silent.
“Nothing else?” Mateo asked. “Alright. Well, this isn’t a lot of information, so I’m not entirely sure what we’re supposed to do with this.” “I think we should go talk to Ollie.” Luca said.
Everyone turned to look at Luca.
“If there’s anybody who’d know anything else about the guy we’re after, it’s Ollie.” “Well, it’s worth a shot.” Beau shrugged.
“Alright, all in favor of going to Ollie, say aye.”
Everyone in the room said “Aye!” at once.
“Then it’s settled! To Ollie’s house we go!”
Norma’s POV:
The four of them all walked down to Ollie’s house. Norma held the jester hat in her hands.
“Hey, isn’t that Ollie’s hat?” Luca asked. “Yea. They threw it onto the ground yesterday & left it there, so I thought I’d, uh, give it back to them. As an apology.” “An apology for..?” “Well, y’know. Revealing that they got their memories back.” “Ah, fair.”
They all arrived at Ollie’s house. Mateo knocked on the door.
No answer.
Mateo knocked on the door again.
The door opened. Ollie stood before them all, hatless & with a neutral expression on their face.
“Hello?” they asked. “Ollie, we need your help.” Mateo said. “You need.. my help?” “Yes, your help. May we come in?”
Ollie checked to see who was outside the door. Then, they looked behind them, seemingly checking for something, but Norma wasn’t sure what. After doing that, they turned back around to face Mateo. “Yea, sure.”
The group walked inside of Ollie’s house. “Take a seat wherever, I suppose.” Ollie said, sitting down on the floor in front of the couch.
While everyone else took their seats, Norma walked up to Ollie & handed them their hat back. “Hey, before we get started, I just.. y’know, wanted to say sorry for earlier. I shouldn’t have spied on you like that.”
Ollie looked at Norma & took the hat from her, putting it on. “Don’t do that again please. Ok?” “I promise.”
As Norma sat down on the couch next to Luca, Mateo started speaking. “Alright, Ollie. We’re trying to figure out who’s behind this game & stop them for good. We figured maybe you’d have some information.”
Ollie thought for a second. “Um.. a couple nights ago, two of his goons brought me a file of papers to help me out. I can go grab it if you want.” “That’d be great.” Mateo nodded.
Ollie hopped off of the floor & went into their room.
“His goons..?” Beau questioned. “Who’s he?” “I assume they’re referring to the guy behind this.” Luca said. “If Ollie wanted to refer to him by name, they would have done that.” “I’m just scared by the fact that he has goons. If he can have back-up, who knows what he’s capable of?”
Ollie walked back into the living room, holding a file. They hand it over to Mateo.
“Here you go.” they said. “Hope this helps.” “Thank you, Ollie.” Mateo takes the file & looks through it, flipping through the papers. He stopped on one specific paper & looked at it a bit closer.
“Is this a map?” he asked. “It’s a map of the underground system underneath the town.” Ollie informed.  “So if we get down under, we’ll find whoever’s behind this, right?”
Ollie shrugged.
“Probably. I don’t have any idea where exactly he is, but if he’s not underground, then I’m out of ideas.” “Sorry if this is personal,” Beau said. “But who is ‘he’, exactly?”
Ollie stuck their hands in their pockets. “He.. I... I don’t want to talk about it.” “It’s fine.” Luca nodded. “You don’t have to say anything about him if you don’t want to.”
Ollie smiled. “Thanks.”
“Well, what are we waiting for?” Mateo grinned, hopping off the couch with the underground map in his hands. “Let’s find that guy & get the hell out of here!”
i rlly hope ur post was just bait but if not imma say sum things:
1. ya kno u dont have to do blackface or anything to cosplay as a black character, you can simply dress up as her, u dont need to do anything with ur hair. white people literally cosplay as characters with dif races (esp in anime spaces) all the time and nobody bats an eye
2. the reason why lizzie's design was changed (atleast from my pov) is bcos grizzly specifically capitalized off having lizzie be "ambiguous" and acted as if that was enough representation -- which is honestly pretty shitty, white characters can be confirmed to be white in the show, but the best we had for any POC in general is "oh she has the same skintone as rhianna :3 she has braids" and then turn around and have a white woman for the design. the best i can describe it for you, for what i assume is a white queer (or at the very least a non-Black queer), is that it felt like queerbaiting but for representation of POC.
3. and honestly the "why not introduce characters that are Black from the getgo", aside from the reasons i mentioned in 2, i wanna add that it is important that atleast ONE person who is a reoccuring, is integral to the plot, and close to the main characters is POC. becus the reoccuring crew is literally entirely white aside from lizzie. i personally dont want representation where a character appears for one arc and then disappears, i want someone who is reoccuring and has a deep and meaningful exploration of their character. this late into the series i genuinely doubt grizzly would be able to squeeze in a new meaningful character to the main cast.
4. if u dont feel comfortable cosplaying lizzie, there are literally a billion other pirates to cosplay. u dont need to take what little POC representation (esp Black representation) there is in riptide and invalidate it for u to find another pirate to cosplay.
all this to say, you need to go outside more. You have internalized anti Black racism that needs to be worked on, you may not have intended ill will, but that was so racist omg
All of your assumptions are incorrect. You should really not assume someone's sexuality, race, ethincity, gender, etc on a Tumblr post or account. Also the post was 100% not bait. I am perfectly aware I do not need to blackface nor would I ever do that. The reason I said the whole thing about the dreadlocks is because although it would be acceptable for me to do so I do not have the type of hair that can be put into dreadlocks so I'm sure a wig with dreadlocks would look bad on me. I also do genuinly understand why people were adamant about the intial design change because Grizzly's intial description of her. What you seem to be misunderstanding from my post is that Lizzie (the second design at least) is a part of the little POC representation for some of us, myself included. When I was talking about new and diverse characters I was not talking about someone who whould stick around for one arc and then dissapear. I genuinly do think that a new character who is not white could be brought into the world and be meaningfull to the main cast. In fact, considering what Grizzly has said so far one new, diverse, important to the crew and story, and future reoccuring character does exist, Ensa! I was so excited when he described and showed the art of Ensa because she is some great representation and I was so excited to hear her character wants to be a pirate and to see Grizzly say this, "Eventually, I think she will join the crew more full time on the ship. She's already apart of their little family, helping take care of Ollie & his mom.". I understand that you are angry with me but I am definetly not trying to "invalidate it (representation) for u to find another pirate to cosplay.". It was not racist. If I had said something like, "Ew. The new Lizzie design is gross and ugly.", then I would understand how it would be racist but as I already said, I do like design. I would feel the same way if a character got a redesign and looked exactly like me. Representation is incredibly important and I think that changing a character that is already known isn't truly the best way to do representation.
@person in photo Roy had already been sober for over ten years by the time Jason came around in the comics 👍 hope this helps 👍 Snowbirds was released in 1971, Jason's first appearance was 1983 👍
Also we've done the "Roy relapsed over a death" arc, it was when Lian died and the writers handled it fucking horribly. If you want to write about him relapsing from the death of a loved one, why not do a shit ton of research and then do a rewrite of the time after Lian's death? Or write about immediately after Donna and Lilith's deaths? Or Ollie's death? Or literally anyone if would make sense to write about timeline wise????????
Even from a RHATO timeline shenanigans POV this makes no sense, and I know it'd be an AU but it truly makes zero fucking sense. Roy was an alcoholic in RHATO, it was one of the biggest "what the fuck is wrong with the writers and editors" things because 1) addictions aren't interchangeable. Many people who have substance abuse disorder deal with multiple addictions, yes that's true, but you can't just switch them out in a narrative because it's disrespectful. 2) as a follow up to that point, Roy's heroin addiction was specifically because Dennis O'Neil did charity work with heroin addicts and saw how awful they were treated first hand, and wanted to write a comic about how even good kids could become addicts because addiction is an illness. To try and fit RHATO into this context does not fully make sense because snowbirds was explicitly addressing the mistreatment of heroin addicts specifically which Roy is not in the comics which established his friendship with Jason.
This concept could work just with literally any other character. Relapse is common. Fuck, I've even thought there was likely multiple times Roy detoxed due to the retcons of Roy detoxing with Dinah changing with Dick's statement "i stayed up with you while you detoxed, not a pretty sight." You could 110% write something meaningful and beautiful about him relapsing, it's just that keeping context in mind matters.
Personally I get touchy with this stuff because three of my uncles and four of my cousins are recovering addicts. Doctors refused to take my uncle's health issues seriously because he had a history of addiction, and it turned out he had cancer - he died less than a full month after being diagnosed. He was living with us at the time.
I put that because I do want to try and be civil about this, but when it comes to Roy's arc with his addiction I get particularly defensive.
(TW: drug addiction and common jayroy shipper behaviour)
Tumblr media
No one hates Roy more than jayroy shippers.
I would like to give a thoughtful opinion on this but I'm lost for words, this is just... bonkers.
Tumblr media
I get some people just aren't big comic fans, and that's fine... I mean without knowing Roy's character he just seems like a pile of nothing in RHatO- but y'know I get it. Thing is not knowing the characters isn't the biggest problem with jayroy shippers, it's that when they learn about Roy their first reaction is "How can I make this about Jason."
theres this fic idea i’ve been thinking of for a long while now (honestly i've had this specific post drafted since may of this year, so maybe since january or so) and want to eventually write one day, but if im being honesty with myself i'm not sure if i ever will, so im at least putting it out there now.
its a chip analysis piece (likely in some kind of 5+1 format, primarily from jay’s POV) specifically between chip and his relationship with food. the simple fact he’s always been this scrawny malnourished street kid when growing up outside of the black rose means a lot to me, and it would likely cause a lot of habits or behaviors the others wouldnt have or possibly even understand to begin with which would be a fun thing to explore and how it can reveal more abt him.
scenes/topics that would be Covered will be under cut
1 ---
the first thing that immediately comes to mind is an analysis and expansion upon his canon interactions with food in canon, such as the bag of chip’s jay gives him on loffinlot or the cinnamon roll incident
for one, the fact that jay carries snacks at all is kind of indicative and would likely be the focus. use jay's pov to explain how she’s learned to bring snacks on adventures since teaming with chip (likely with comments being somewhat snide or huffy about it, or comparing him to a child demanding/needing a snack, since they are still kind of strangers and she doesn’t know much about chip).
(if desired, it could also expand on how he fuckin’ made that small bag of chips last so long. yes the true answer is “because it was funny” but like… rationing behavior? jay might make an absent note of it (due to her observant feat), but wouldn’t likely extrapolate further at the time. also may be cut entirely for messing with story flow too much to include as a detail.)
the cinnamon roll scene is… listen he literally tried to share food with someone and broke down crying doing so because he loves them and wants to share that. obvious example of using food as a language for love and appreciation (which, again, takes on another level when you remember he comes from a food-scarce background). like thats just a thing that happened i don’t care if it was a goof that’s just canon. bite me.
2 ---
observation of chip having "weird" behaviors with food. these include having a seemingly massive appetite and being sure to always clean his plate (you don’t turn down access to food and you take what you can in case you can’t do it again soon.)
but also: as part of chip kind of projecting onto ollie, he’s always trying to pawn more food onto ollie’s plate. sometimes it’s as subtle as saying he’s “not hungry anymore” and scrapping whats left to ollie (which would catch jay’s eye because previously he’s always finished his plate even when full and clues her in) to as obvious as literally giving him more and saying he needs to eat more.
both the above points would be stuff jay would 1. spot and 2. actually take note of/care about, around after desire island or so.
3 ---
immediately after leaving allport, i think seeing reuben would bring back a bunch of chip's old habits and cause him to backslide a bit. after all, even if they were a “family”, they were also still a gang of street rats. on instinct, he would end up showing a lot of food guarding habits (being overly protective of people taking it, hiding food in a stash, etc). he likely also had these habits for a while after joining with jay and gillion, but after episode 16 when they started slowly getting closer the habits faded because he knew he could trust them.
4 ---
this is such a minor point in comparison to the rest of this list but i can see it so clearly in my brain. chip has an apple (likely stolen tbh) and he takes a bite out of it and leans against a wall. jay either makes a snide comment towards him about it or just snorts or something, prompting chip to hold it up towards her and go “you want some?” in a snarky way (speaking with his mouth full all the while).
jay rolls her eyes and says yes and gets startled when chip actually throws her the apple. she yelps, catching it, then throws it back immediately while yelling something like “ew, no, you took a bite of it already! i was kidding! gross!” chip feigns being wounded and retorts with something like “and here i was willing to expose myself to your stink getting on my apple–” and cue bickering between them about cooties.
he just straight up was willing to share the apple, thoughts abt "the fact he already bit into it" don’t register for him bc its such a non-issue in his mind. he offers to share about any food he has/makes because its a silent way to show he cares. i don’t think he’s fully conscious of that fact though. in general i think chip responds a lot better to subtle actions showing love than words of love and this is just another example of that from him
(following this is likely where cinnamon roll scene would go in the fic, both timeline-wise and thematically, since this section is focused more or less on "sharing your food as a sign of love")
5 ---
this next section would be the most plot heavy or traditional “fic” affair, in that it’s not solely fluff padding/analysis and has some original storybits.
the crew would be stranded on an island. i don’t know how exactly, but the key parts is that they don’t have their ship, there’s no one else on the island, and they have limited resources/rations. presumably they know rescue is coming, but ideally they don’t know exactly when (for drama purposes, as well as to make proper rationing out supplies p much impossible). perhaps the grandberry crew is on their way to save them, but they ended up on this island after a storm and don’t know where they are to point the grandberry pirates to. something like that.
actually, this plays out very similarly to the ollie part as detailed earlier, but to the left. as the crew starts to struggle with rations, chip would start (subtly when possible) start giving up his own portions. either by feigning lack of appetite, persuasion, deception, etc. the closest he comes to stating the truth would be when someone (likely ollie) asks if he’ll be okay going without his portion and chip shrugs then leans back on his elbows with a smirk and goes “nah, i’m used to it anyway.”
this is when the rest of the crew also starts to pick up on chip’s behaviors, to the point it becomes a bit of an unspoken secret they don’t want to dig into. previously, and the reason the entire fic is from Jay's POV, shes been the only one observant enough to take notice off all these traits. this is when it becomes So obvious everyone notices it.
6 ---
preferably, near the beginning of the story (likely after the chip bag incident, but before jay starts noticing all of chip’s behaviors, so that she cares for him more than she’s annoyed by him but hasn't put together any real dots-- between section 1 and 2), there would be a section where chip is mocked for his short height (as the shortest of the crew, at around 5’4) and being VERY easy for gillion to carry.
then, after the island section (section 5), there would be another part where chip’s height and weight are commented on. i'm undecided if this would be another light hearted goof scene or a more “dramatic” serious scene (which if it was it would likely be tied to the island incident. maybe an injury or argument or something?).
either way, it happens because jay ends up lifting/carrying chip. jay “8 in strength” ferin. he’s just fuckin light. afterwards, chip would explain saying something like “its not my fault! cause like– outside of arlin, i was kind of a street rat growing up, yknow? they arent particularly known for having a stable food situation, didn’t get all the nutrients and junk you need to grow tall”. it starts as a joke and a kind of light-hearted ribbing defense, but kind of sobers up in that melancholic-nostalgic way by the end.
it’s the first time he directly states anything abt his upbringing and food to his crew, but its a confirmation. well, its a confirmation for jay. everyone else definitely knew something was going on, but jay is the one who is able to connect all the pieces bc she’s the only one whos noticed all the other pieces. she gets the Whole Picture of how his childhood and upbringing caused all these behaviors and kind of what they imply abt chip's behavior now (like the food sharing as love, smothering ollie, etc)
+ 1 ---
for a cheesy ending bonus, have jay use a mix of chip’s anecdotes abt the black rose and drey’s shaky memory to try and cook up a meal he used to have there. (for bonus, if desired she could reach out to lizzie too since lizzie lived with the old chef shay).
depending on author preference, either its good and chip cries because of the ~*memories*~ and the fact they cared enough, or it’s comically awful and not much at all like the original but the sole fact that they went out of their way to very obviously try SO hard to surprise him with this because they thought it would make him happy (as well as trying to speak to him in his own love language) makes him cry about it anyway.
(again, chip responds better to acts of love than words-- having his crew not only notice this abt him, but then do something to try and show that love hits him way harder than anything else could)
