Is that MATTHEW NOSZKA? No, that’s KENDALL MONTGOMER. The 32 year old ANCESTRAL WITCH DUAL NATURED MALE is a/an/the REGISTERED NURSE. If you ask their friends, they’re known to be HEADSTRONG & DEPENDABLE, but beware, they’re also known to be SPITEFUL & STUBBORN. Their friends also say that they’re into RISKY SEX, BREEDING, AND BONDAGE but don’t you dare trying SCAT, VORE, GORE with them.
Kendall and his, dying, husband move to New Haven to get away from the corruption of the last city they were in and they thought that they would find solace and better medication and healing for the husband's cancer. Kendall's husband, metaphorically, gambled their fortune away looking for a cure to the cancer instead of starting treatments immediately, so upon coming to New Haven Kendall took up a job as an RN to pay for his husband's medical bills. He does enjoy the new city, but he's just hoping that it is peaceful enough for his husband. He is okay with humans, doesn't trust them, but he doesn't despise them. He is okay with New Haven at the moment - his only concern is seeing how long he has left with his husband, so the outside world isn't apart of his thought process. He gets his witch heritage from his ancestors and does keep well in touch with his craft.

are the witches not humans? i mean celestia and luna look pretty out there w/ the multiple faces but twilight and most of the others look fairly normal. or is it just a celestia & luna (and chrysalis) thing?
Canterlot witches like Celestia and Luna are not human but an entirely different entity. Humans can become witches by title, but their bodies will never be purely magical like those in Canterlot. You can tell who's what by their title, "Witch of ____" is human, "The ____ Witch" is Canterlotian.
#ask me#anon#basically any human can become a witch#but canterlotian witches are biological. they're like a species

Hi, question regarding the life expectancy and aging system for each fantasy race/species in your world building setting? How long do they live each, including their maximum lifespan and when are they considered adults, middle aged, elders etc.? Also, love your work
I don't want to put strict numbers on the different lifespans since I usually keep changing it so take all this with a grain of salt, but in general:
Demons: Adult - 14. Average lifespan - 60 - 70 Demons rapidly grow, stay at a stable age, then rapidly decline again.
Humans: Adult - 18. Average lifespan - 70 - 100
Dwarves: Adult - 32. Average lifespan - 140 - 200 Dwarves age very consistently. Few to no growth spurts of ages of intense change.
Fairies: Adult - 50. Average lifespan - 300 - 400
Elves: Adult - 100. Average lifespan - 700 - 1000
(excuse the excel table)
But essentially, Iseul's been in his early-mid twenties all Reiner's life while Solaire would have just become an adult when he was born. Saerys and the MC would appear about the same age as children, but he'd be an adult while she was still a teenager, etc.
#love and legends#not art#saerys would be the first to die of old age#while iseul would live about 7-8 generations after that#while it can be a bit awkward to work around i do enjoy thinking about how species with different lifespans would interact#like iseul going from seeing reiner as a baby to being under his authority#or solaire having looked after the witch queen and alain as children#i really want to do iseul's timeskip epilogue showing like a decade or so passing#so keeping iseul (and the mc?) looking the same while all the others have noticably aged

so i started this show and it just gets worse and worseeeee not only did it lift the romance subplot directly from twilight (and not well) but they also are trying to play the forbidden love angle hard in the fantasy racism vein except it's a "cross-species" relationship between the two whitest people i've ever seen in my life and there are three people of color in the whole (first season of the) show who aren't villains and it seems that every other episode (and sometimes ebery episode and sometimes twice an episode!) there is a man physically or magically subjugating a woman and i keep waiting for the big reveal at the end to be stolen from fucking rainbow rowell
#yes i read 'carry on' by rainbow rowell in middle school what else could you have possibly expected from me. anyway she gives me simon snow#vibes and not in a good way and she's even blonde while her british vampire boyfriend has dark dark hair and just. you will never be basil.#also i hate to be that guy but the writing has made me physically recoil and the acting almost reads as silly but mostly as middling :/ and#i wanted and expected more from matthew goode bc i really liked him in downton but i guess this is a 2018 bbc modern vampire fantasty serie#like i guess.#also there's SO much shit about bloodlines and maybe i'm gay with a blood disorder amd a family history of adoption but like. who fucking#careeessssssssss it ahould not be that serious. why is it that serious.#also the fantasy racism kind of reads like it's mesnt to be? homophobic adjacent? like there's a Lot of 'love who you love' talk going on#for the single most bland heterosexual relationship i've ever seen on a screen like there is so little chemistry? so little#anyway it's called 'a discovery of witches' and i'd recommend not watching it 🫶 or if you do then watch it on 1.5x speed#it's been decent background noise for knitting bc i kinda sorta care about the plot but if miss a chunk bc i'm in the lace chart zone i do#not care and i do not have to go back to catch it bc the writing is so transparent#there was another series it stole from that's escaping me atm but when i noticed it pissed me off a touch. hmm maybe it will come back to m#a post#do not watch this show#I REMEMBERED they wanted the juliette holding diana captive moment to be joaquin's 'i want to watch you fuck her' from sense8 SOOOOO BAD bu#it WASN'T bc they were too afraid to lean into anything that would make juliette interesting at all. for being all about the world's most#special blonde woman this show does not seem to like women very much. sad! well there's other shows#OH ALSO ALSO there are 3 magical 'creature' species which are witch + vampire + femon except the demons don't seem? to have any magical#abilities that humans don't have besides sensing the species of other creatures? like witches can cast spells and vampires do their various#vampire things but demons have nothing going for them except disproportionately high rates of homelessness and suicide?? like girl what are#we doingggggggg what are we doing here !! what's their deal why does no one care !! can they do anything or no !! god this show sucks

Is that ADAM SENN? No, that’s HENRIK BATES. The 35 year old EARTH/NATURE - WITCH ALPHA MALE is a VET. If you ask their friends, they’re known to be PROTECTIVE & LOYAL, but beware, they’re also known to be SECRETIVE & DISTANT. Their friends also say that they’re into BONDAGE & EDGING but don’t you dare trying AGE PLAY & BATHROOM with them.
Henrik is a kind and sweet guy who lost his parents one night during a fire when he was only ten years old. It was a warm summer night; Henrik was woken up by the smell of smoke. His mother risked her life to save him to get him out. After that night Henrik was alone. The male was bounce from one foster home to another, each being worst than the last. Henrik ran away at the age of fifteen and lived on his own. The young witch moved from place to place not staying in one place and due to his experience in foster homes he had learned not to trust anyone.
Henrik kept to himself and did what he could to survive, sometimes stealing and doing jobs. Henrik had managed to get everything he needed before he heard about New Haven as a safe place for him and which provided him with a safe place to grow his magic and connect to his power source of Earth/nature. The witch manages to find a place to rent with all the money he had from a nice couple who happen to give him a job in the vet clinic. Henrik worked for them, and they ended up helping him complete his education and support him, and even sending him to school where he became a vet after they discovered his talent for working with animals.
After years have passed, Henrik is now a vet and has taken over the clinic. He loves his job and is slowly trying to connect with people. Henrik distrusts almost everyone and even humans. Which is one of the main reasons he stays in New Haven and plus there was nothing outside New Haven for him.

Plant Profile: American Witch Hazel - Hamamelis virginiana
Today's plant is better known for its use as a facial toner but this year I've witnessed a mass-bloom (the yellow dots in the image above) so I want to re-introduce you my ultimate late fall favorite!
Witch-Hazel refers to members of the Hamamelis family, containing about five species, 3 of which are found in the eastern US and the other two in Asia. Our species of focus is the American Witch Hazel, a wide growing, often dominate understory shrub/tree common throughout forests of the American East. The plant has a lovely arching growth habit (Image 2 above), alongside trails in older-growth tall mountain forests, one always can spot witch hazel by a tunnel effect along the trails framed by its branches.
For a quick technical analysis, Witch Hazel has oval alternate leaves that are asymmetrical and have rounded lobes along the sides (image 3 of pressed leaf). The bark is a grey or reddish brown with small lenticels (image 4 of 'trunk') and typically grows in clusters sprouting from deep roots. Typically the plant reaches about 20' in height and 20' in width, as I usually only see specimens this large in very old portions of woodland my assumption is that it takes many decades to achieve this stature.
The flowers themselves are divided into 4 portions with yellow ribbon-like petals present from October-December (image 5, 6, 9). The flowers are extremely fragrant in wet weather and mornings, the scent usually fades in drier conditions. Flowers lose their ribbons and recede into this hardened portion connected to the stem called a calyx (it looks like a rounded pod which can have about 4 seeds in it). The seeds actually shoot out of this pod as a dispersal method around the next fall.
I brought up flowering because like many species in the northeast, there is never a consistent year for these things, while I see witch-hazel flowers every year I don't encounter blooms prolifically unless it's exposed to a lot of sun light. From my experience, a mass-bloom (in which every tree has noticeable blooms like image 1) occurs every 5 years about, I've noticed this in my forest since childhood but others may have more frequent encounters than me.
American Witch Hazel has a large range and is found throughout the Eastern US. The Northern limit of its range is Nova Scotia to Wisconsin staying mostly east of the Mississippi River south until its South Western Limit in East Texas and Northern Florida to the East. Allegedly disjunct populations also exist in Lost Maples Texas and the Eastern Sierra Madres of Mexico but those are fairly isolated from the main range.
There are two other Hamamelis species located within the same range. H. vernalis: Ozark Witch-hazel, which is a common horticultural specimen due to its reddish yellow blooms coming out just before spring and is naturally restricted to the Ozarks. H. ovalis: big leaf witch-hazel is a new species discovered in 2004, found only in one watershed in Mississippi and Alabama; this species has much larger leaves and red mid-winter blooms. Most people are unlikely to encounter these in the wild at all.
Hamamelis virginiana can grow in both acidic and alkaline conditions, though I tend to find the densest populations on protected north facing slopes in mature forests near where water travels. I've also found it on pure rock on mountain top balds in New York before (image 7 above). This is because in the North, American Witch Hazel isn't as limited in habitat as in the Southern portion of it's range where it's generally restricted to only cove forests and bottom lands. generally there is an association with the Witch Hazel and decent moisture.
Speaking of moisture, Early English settlers (shown by Native Americans) used witch hazel branches as dowsing rod to find underground water sources. Sticking branches in the ground, and watching which portion bent upon encountering streams. It's likely the name 'Witch' in Witch Hazel derives either from Middle English 'Wiche' for 'lively' or Anglo-Saxon 'Wych' for 'bend' describing this use. [Info from US Forest Service].
Witch Hazel is also a protector of the forest following disturbance. In a Canadian Journal of Forest Research Study by Taylor Benton, analysis found that where large scale canopy loss was present H. virginiana was found to increase it's basal area growth (think spread) by over 300%. This indicates that in the presence increased light and nitrogen, the dominate understory species are able to protect seedlings by increasing canopy shade!
In my own forest I've noticed this where Ash has died back, the Witch Hazel flowers more prolifically and frequently as well as becoming denser (Image 8 Witch-hazel in flower above a stream)
Now what are the ecological relationships associated with American Witch Hazel? This species specifically provides one of the last insect oriented pollen sources prior to winter (other witch-hazel species often bloom in early spring), so species like the owlet moth which are active in winter, and late season bees get a food source from it. The leaves are occasionally predated by a gall wasp which forms many odd tents on the leaf in favorable conditions.
Propagating Witch-hazel for those crazy like me should be aware it is not an easy plant to start. The seeds require a period of moist cold stratification, then warm, then another cold (think 90 days of fridge, 90 days in warmth, 90 days in fridge) then it'll begin to germinate. If you have a full specimen you can attempt layering (which is covering a low branch in soil allowing it to root). You can take softwood cuttings in spring but they have to be kept frost free the next winter.
Finally Landscaping advice! Witch-Hazel is best utilized in partially shaded non-south facing or moist areas in partial sun. While it loves total shade in its natural environment it really preforms much better in a garden with some sunlight. American Witch-Hazel also is a better performer in the scent category rather than a showy floral display, most horticultural specimens are derived from hybrids between Chinese, Japanese, or Ozark Witch-hazel (image 10 of possible H. vernalis cultivar above) as their coloring is much more interesting compared to our local powerhouse. However it must be said that American Witch-hazel is resilient and has some flower color variation (oranges and pinks) which are absent in other species.
So this has been my plant profile on American Witch-Hazel, please go into the woods and smell the haunting yellow blooms while the mass-bloom is still occurring. Happy Hunting to my Eastern American followers :)!

some that demon thing secondary characters
Crassipes Meleagris: General in the Cristatus' army. Technically the record holder for the person to join the army at the youngest age. She was still a toddler when her village was raided and her birth parents killed. She was found after the fact while the raiding soldiers were looting what was left, and taken in by the collective unit. No one individual was her guardian, instead the unit as a whole raised her to be the finest warrior amongst them. As an adult she moved through the ranks quickly via a combination of raw skill and the ruthless willingness to kill anyone whose position she was gunning for.
Olor Cygnus: A small village's doctor turned leader. Many of the demons from her village were slaughtered during the beginning of the war. They had posed too much of a threat to the new rulling powers and needed dealt with. She was spared as the warlord leading the invasion deemed her meek but intelligent and respected enough to be saddled with the duty of leading her devastated community. Unlike most of the other minor lords, she is neither a politician nor a warrior, so the wanton violence and pointless macho postering from every one of her new "colleagues" has been difficult to stomach.
Gigas Coua: A Minor Lord from low places. Former prostitute turned Madame after the last owner of their brothel was found washed up on the shore of their local river. They delighted in accepting the title of Minor Lord, as Finally they would have the respect they've been denied since they were orphaned by a now forgotten battle. they are eager and willing to do whatever it takes to keep the favor of those above them as they know all too well how quickly you can lose the entire game if the dealer has a bone to pick with you.
#i had electricity And alone time today so i got to draw these bastards finally#anyways fun fact: since I didnt have internet while picking at the draft i couldn't look up bird species for Olor and Gigas names#so in the draft they're just Quiet and Slimey#anyways the species are bigfoot turkey. mute swan. and the giant cuoa. witch is a type of cuckoo.#theres a third minor lord called loudmouth in the draft but i didn't draw him bc his job is to die badly so Olor can start her 'villain' arc#like shes an antagonist#but being Pavo's antagonist has like an 80% chance of meaning you are the one with the moral and ethical high ground

One more thing. In the cutscene, when Eris starts chanting and "invokes the Worm gods," we hear her say three words:
"Akka... Xita... Sel..."
Obviously Akka and Xita are Worm gods. New Worm god just dropped??? We've never before heard the name "Sel." The only pattern I'm seeing in these being invoked is that Akka and Xita are dead. So maybe Sel is another, some forgotten Worm god that's died a long time ago. Or maybe it's just a word in the incantation, but that's a strange placement for it here with two other Worms.
#destiny 2#destiny 2 spoilers#season of the witch#season of the witch spoilers#eris#hive worm#i've always wondered about there only being 5. feels somewhat risky for a species in a way#then we learned of xita and that was pog. worm mother.....#and then last season... ahsa the proto-worm. the worm gods were something else before they were worm gods. wild#this strengthens the idea that there's many more of them but that they weren't equally relevant in the grand scheme of things to the hive#have some splintered away immediately after ascending? we know they can travel through the ascendant plane#was there a power struggle? for the tithe? sharing the tithes across many worm gods is risky as well#too many of them and the tithe will dilute#remember that the hive only wrote in the books of sorrow of what they knew and needed#there are details that they were deceived on and that were hidden from them#but how would eris know this then?#possibly intriguing
