Avec une vérité et une simplicité que ni Chardin ni Manet n'auraient renié, posées sur un entablement de  pierre dont les contours sont maintenus dans le flou : trois tranches de saumon cru, plein cadre. Au contraire de ce qu'il fait à son habitude, dans ses natures mortes, Goya n'a pas jugé utile ici de disposer des traces de putréfaction sur ces trois tranches de saumon ! Elles sont même d'une fraicheur à faire plaire d'envie l'étal d'un poissonnier !

Joaquín Sorolla, the Mediterranean light painter.

"The water was such a fine blue! And the vibration of the light was crazy. (...) the lights of a thousand colors reflecting in the sea ... gave me a difficult time to forget." I was fascinated by the light and the sea.

Sorolla had the need to feel before painting, and for this he worked at the beach for hours without caring at all about the scorching sun of the Mediterranean summers. On August 10, 1923, a hemiplegia suffered three years earlier, ended his life the age of 60.
