Apple | WWDC'23 Highlights
:: I'm so excited for Apple Vision (why call it pro already??) I don't care if people are calling it another gimmick. Spacial Computing is going to become a bigger thing than AR, and will change how we use VR. Quote me now; in a few years we're going to be talking about Spacial Computing in much smaller/everyday portable devices. I'm also oddly really into the Journal app idea? I just think it'll be a nice way to blog/tweet/compile/save/share daily life online. The Messages updates are fun as well, but I'm more interested in how life will continue to progress in the abilities to share from handheld to desktop devices. The convo I've been having all week with people is; "what can I all connect to my ______ (for me, iPhone) so life just smoothly transitions from one device to the next". I also realize how dystopian that sounds haha! But I love the idea of walking into a space, the network detecting who I am and flipping on lights / turning on music / readying up Netflix to my last watched episode / prepping my workspace / etc. We COULD be living in some StarTrek type situations but we keep getting scared of possibilities!

I keep seeing stuff online about Apple Vision Pro and their weird holographic face map thing, and it pisses me off because it's literally intentionally clearing the one reason anybody has for wanting to do VR.
PURELY for Advertising Control Reasons, every single one of these damn companies wants you to customize your Virtual Self to be a 1:1 match of your IRL self and sensibilities so the transition between Virtual Reality and Meatspace is completely seamless, but that's the opposite of the point!!! Like, if I'm using VR I want to be able to completely customize how I look inside the virtual world, I want to be able to make myself look like an anime character or my fursona or a robot or a floating cube with an emoticon for a face, Anything that would be possible in Digital Space, like a profile picture!
These people want it to look exactly like your real life self because when someone like Zuckerberg looks at the Metaverse he sees a virtual world that's exactly identical to our world except he gets to be God instead.

What Happened to GIW Site-13
So! One day, in the middle of a random field in Illinois, there is a Spacial Anomaly that is picked up by the Watchtower's Sensors.
They send a team to investigate, and find a strange facility having suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The Terrain around the Facility seems displaced, like it was dragged along by whatever dropped the Facility there, but the Flora around the Facility matched its surroundings so it couldn't have come from too far away? Where did it come from?
The Justice League doesn't pay too much mind to it at first, busy dealing with their usual mess of problems to do more than contact the local government and send a few Heroes to help with the investigation. It didn't seem to be an active threat at the moment, so sending a few superpowered Heroes are a precaution was seen as a good enough response for the time.
When the first Expedition Team went missing, they took a bigger interest.
They made contact with the Agency that was leading the investigation, a smaller agency known as the GIW that was focused on studying Supernatural Anomalies. They usually wouldn't have been the first choice, given their niche focus, but this was a special circumstance.
The Facility that had been discovered both markings stating that it was "GIW Research Site 13", however the Records they had stated that this Facility was never actually built. There were Plans to build it, but the Agency was hit with Budget Cuts after they failed to provide adequate evidence of the Supernatural, and it was scrapped. They had no explanation for how a Facility that never existed suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
They decided to send in another Team as Investigation and Rescue, this time equipped with the latest technology they GIW had developed called "Ecto-Tech", as well as a Magic User from Justice League Dark for insurance. They managed to maintain Video Contact with the Team thanks to the Ecto-Tech Cameras they had, and what they saw did not sit right with any of them.
The entire Facility was built like a Prison.
Prison Cells, or to be more accurate, Cages, lined the Walls of the section they had entered. Evidence of previous inhabitants Littered the Cells, scratches on the metal and green glowing blood staining the floors were just some of the things they found in those Cages. One of the Technicians on the Team identified the Cages as having been built with Ecto-Tech, despite the fact that the Ecto-Tech they had spent years developing was nowhere near as advanced as this.
As they continued they found Walls covered in more Glowing Green Blood, spelling out haunting messages. "They never wanted to Investigate", "Guys In White", and the most common "What F̷E̴N̸T̴O̸N̷ happened to Site 13"
Delving deeper into the Facility, they eventually found a working Computer Terminal and downloaded as much information as they could, sending it back up to the surface wirelessly, before turning around to begin searching for the other Expedition Team. But when they tried to follow they path back to their starting location, they found that it had changed. The Hallways they had just passed were missing, there were new branches in the path that never existed, and their equipment suddenly told them that they halls they were standing in didn't exist according to the Blueprints they had.
The Camera's didn't last long after that, and the last images sent through the feed were of a glowing green figure slowly approaching the Team from down a dark hallway. It seemed to be dripping with blood. Non-Green Blood.
Of course some of the League wanted to immediately rush in to save them, but it would be too dangerous without knowing more about the situation. They looked at the files they had received from the Team before they disappeared.
From there, they formed a timeline of events.
It seemed that the Facility came from an Alternate History, or another Dimension, similar to their own but with a few changes.
By all accounts it seemed like the timeline of its Original Dimension followed their very closely, until one day in the 80's when the first major discrepancy appeared. On Febuary 12th, 1989 that Universes version of the GIW reported "A True Emergence of multiple Ectoplasmic Entities reported in Amity Park, Illinois, 2:31 PM".
Apparently in that universe, the GIW had been successful in locating evidence of the Supernatural. It seemed like this event allowed them to avoid the budget cuts they had experienced in their own Universe, which was the first major change from their own Timeline. Without the Budget Cut, the GIW managed to build their Facility near where they first spotted the Entity, and from there the timeline continued to diverge.
In that same small town, multiple more sightings of Ectoplasmic Entities were reported, all witnessed to be attacking the civilian population using their abilities. It was also reported that a single Ectoplasmic Entity, thereafter known as "Designation Phantom", was defending the civilain population for unknown reasons.
Eventually the source of these Sightings was tracked down to a pair of Scientists living in Amity Park, who were decades ahead in terms of the study of Ectoplasm and Ecto-Tech, who had managed to open a Portal into another Dimension they called the "Ghost Zone". The GIW Approached them for their research, and eventually hired them on as Scientists. Their names were Dr's Jack and Madeline Fenton.
A quick investigation revealed that Jack Fenton and Maddie Walker did exist in their universe, but Jack Fenton went into Mechanical Engineering while Maddie Walker went into Theoritical Physics. They had never met in the current universe.
According to the Doctors, Ectoplasmic Entities lack the ability to have Sentience, and held a malicious rage to all living beings. They stated that "Ghosts" were simply imprinted memories on Ectoplasm that acted as if it was a thinking entity, and that "Ghosts" should be eradicated at all costs.
Unfortunately, the GIW believed them to be Geniuses ahead of their time and accepted every word that came out of their mouths as absolute fact. Any researchers that protested their claims were quickly fired as to not upset their new Golden geese, and the GIW began to follow their new Mission of eradicating all "Ghosts".
From there was a series of files detailing multiple raids into the Ghost Zone, the capture and detainment of hundreds of Ghosts and "Ecto-Infected Humans", and the gruesomely detailed Experimentation logs of the Dr's Fenton as they studied their Captured specimens.
Many of the people being debriefed later on had to leave the room when they got to that point.
It seemed like the Dr's Fenton were the most proud of the Noteworthy Specimens they had managed to capture and dissect, those which evidence showed were much older and more powerful than the typical ghosts rhey captured. These were collectively designated as the "Ancients" by the Logs.
A Yeti-Entity with Ice Powers. A Shadow-Like Humanoid with Phobokinesis. A Female Humanoid with Draconification abilities. A Four Armed Female Humanoid with Extreme Strength. A Strange Entity with Chronokineses.
But what they were most proud of was one of the first Ghosts ever reported. Designation Phantom.
They particular File was completely corrupted beyond saving, but from the notes surrounding it, it had been a very exciting time for the Doctors.
But now, better informed on the situation and what they may encounter, the Justice League decided on a new plan of action. They still didn't know how the Facility had been ripped out of its Original Universe and into theirs, but for now their objective was simply a rescue mission for both expedition teams while Justice League Dark worked with the GIW on countermeasure for Ghosts. From the Files their Universes GIW had on Ghosts, they were certainly still dangerous, and allowing them to escape the facility would be a problem. So they needed containment measures.
The Justice League prepared for their Rescue Operation, unknowing of the eyes watching their every move.
He had dragged that accursed Facility into this world in an attempt to get help, and now all he could hope for was that this version of the Justice League would act better than their own. And if they didn't, he could always try a different universe.
All would be as it should be. Eventually.

I apologize, do you know anything about "rugged" laptops? I'm an ADHD college student who has a lot of difficulty with spacial awareness and stuff so I have trouble with delicate laptops that break if you set them down too hard and I'd like something that can handle basic coding requirements (R studio, Jupiter Notebook, etc), and preferably can stream video for classes as well, though that's less of a requirement. I emergency ordered a cheap lower-spec used rugged laptop from eBay because my laptop isn't working, but I was wondering if a.) you think the whole thing is a gimmick and there's an easier way to get what I need and b.) if it's not a gimmick which ones actually do what they need to. Thanks!
Rugged/Ruggedized laptops are absolutely not a scam, they are incredible, it's just that the ones that are actually rugged are incredibly expensive.
I have a small collection of used Panasonic Toughbooks that are absolutely positively not functional as modern computers but work great for slowly connecting to the internet and running a word processor or programming radios. They are literally used lineman's computers and are supposed to be able to survive falling off a telephone pole. They're dustproof, so they're great to use in the desert. If I tried to edit raw image files on them they would go on strike. I'm pretty sure I could use one as a hammer.
You CAN get used or refurbished ruggedized laptops that are useable; here's a site that sells them. BUT. BUT. You're still going to be paying a high price for computers that are slower and more limited than a cheaper, more delicate computer.
So basically you're combining two separate needs here and they're not playing together great. A rugged laptop can be a great thing to have if you're the kind of person who drops your phone ten times a day (me!) But it's going to be slower and more cumbersome than a lot of what is on the market and it's going to cost a lot.
Honestly in your situation I'd probably focus on getting better performance specs out of a thinner, cheaper, lighter laptop and maybe maximize performance at the lowest price possible if you know you're a laptop destroyer (there's a reason my phones are always whatever's cheapest and in a protective case; I drop them so frequently and so creatively that I can't afford to have nicer phones).
Either that or throw power into a desktop and get a chromebook or something similarly cheap to carry around campus and have your real working computer live on a flat surface that never moves.
If you're trying to find a middle ground, business-class computers can take a bit more abuse than the flimsiest cheapie student computers because they're meant to last and are expected to move around. ThinkPads are my fallback rec for a bunch of reasons, and "sturdiness" is one of those reasons, but a business desktop is not going to tolerate being dropped. So it depends on what level of sturdy you need.
From an ADHD management perspective, you might want to consider your habits around how/where the computer gets moved; don't put it in a backpack if you're likely to drop your backpack on the ground when you get to class. Don't put it on the arm of a chair if you'll forget and knock it off the chair. Don't put it on your bed if you'll forget and sit on it. Make very specific landing spaces and very specific rules for how it gets moved and where it can go (my laptop can only go in one specific backpack and only if it's totally turned off; my laptop cannot be moved when open, i need to shut it before I carry it someplace; my laptop is not allowed on the bed or the center of the couch, it is only allowed on my desk or on the arm of the couch; I tend to set my laptop down hard so I don't set it down on my desk, it gets set on a stand. Etc, etc, etc)
Hopefully that's at least somewhat helpful. I wish that real rugged computers were more affordable and had better performance specs; if you can find one that will perform to your needs and you can function with linux, you may be able to get a toughbook or something like that for under a thousand dollars but you'll sacrifice processing power to get one that old. Good luck, I'm sorry!

MARVEL X TRANSFORMERS
Reincarnation of Tony Stark.
So here's the idea, after his death, Tony reincarnated as a Seeker on Cybertron, some time before the war.
But he ain't the only one, Natasha is too, but she, similar to her old life, is made to be an assassin, but she's actually given an inhibitor chip that forces her to follow orders.
During his life with his Trinemates, Ironjet would strive to help his Trinemates look to brighter pastures, all while trying to help them move up in life from being mere Seekers, Ironjet even desiring to be a scientist like he was in his past life, even having the idea of creating the Arc-reactor again for the purpose of replacing energon as the fuel source of machines, possibly even for helping Cybertronians as a secondary fuel source. He would even build himself a "matrix" built with an Arc-reactor and even implementing the coding for the time machine, giving him minor Temporal Manipulation(speeding up), and implementing his tech to himself. His Trinemates are Skydive(Femme, shorter then her Trinemates, meek but friendly, becomes the medic) and Nightflight(Mech, strong silent type, a nack for Science like Ironjet, but is more CNA sciences).
Natasha would be reborn as Shadowburn, a 1.1 presenter with Spacial jumping, entering the Shadow zone at will, and can forcefully pull things with her through the Shadow zone, for silent take downs. Shes actually a member of the Rescue-bot Caste. She was made an assassin for the Counsel, being trained to take down those the counsel want offline, those they want to stay in line, like Ironjet. When she's ordered to Assassinate him, as soon as he's pulled into the Shadow Zone, he immediately recognizes her body language, and deactivates her Inhibitor chip(you know he'd upgrade his Transwarp net thing so he can hack devices), and they have a tearful reunion. They and Ironjets Trinemates would then sneak off Cybertron as the war starts, stealing a Larger research vessel, which Ironjet would upgrade.
On there travels, I think Ironjet should find a Arachnicon Sparkling and take it in.
I should note that Ironjet Cold Constructed a couple of Minicons, one of which is a Spider Cassetticon called Web//tech. Cyber, a Minicon that turns into a Datadrive to interface with machines and computer systems(she would be Ironjets new JARVIS/FRIDAY). The other 2 would be similar Weaponizers. Wolfshot, a canid minicon that becomes a Sniper rifle. System-crash, a Gorilla shaped Minicon that turns into a hammer, that emits a short range emp on contact. Along with new versions of his old life robots, U and Dum-E.
They later go to earth. And eventually meet team Prime, when Nightflight meets Cliffjumper during an Energon mine raid(the one where Starscream was gonna kill Cliffjumper, but Nightflight saves him. Or they meet one of the Terrans(depending on which Continuitys you choose)

the hiding of necessary foundations and infrastructure as something too ugly for the eyes of the good people is a good way to breed a society that is ignorant of the way things work, and thus will let just about anything go if they don't have to see it.
for basic, physical resources (ie putting power substations as out of the way as possible, hiding cell towers as fake trees, camouflaging manhole covers) hiding them makes for a people who dont have any idea of what/how much theyre consuming, and cant self-regulate their own consumption. they have no idea how much power any given computer program uses, how many people really live in their area, how much water goes through the hydroelectric dam every hour.
for labor and human resources (ie putting service elevators and hallways off to the side), it makes for an incredible class divide. its a clear reflection of the hidden and incredibly inferior slave houses and servants' entrances in the homes of the rich historically. the wealthy then dont have a spacial connection to the working class, they live in entirely different worlds.
in both cases, making necessary functions happen outside of the everyday public eye makes it so people, especially privileged people, get to live in a fantasy world where the reality under their feet isnt something they have to know about except on rare occassions, giving them the false idea that it IS only there on rare occasions. it makes infrastructure and labor a taboo topic, rather than just being the simple everyday truth it actually is, and it makes people who speak out about it weird and nitpicky.
a conscientious, equal, and balanced society is only possible if we're allowed to see and interact with the bones making our everyday lives possible. we need to embrace these things going forward, not hide them away behind a facade like we're making a movie set. the foundation IS a part of the big picture, not some disgusting side effect of it to be hidden away.
let the laborers come in through the front door-- maybe the rich will notice theyre human too. let the power plant be in eyesight-- maybe people will notice how much it has to burn every day. don't sacrifice safety, of course (denial isnt the ONLY reason we keep sewage underground and electrical wiring behind walls), but dont just hide it like its not happening

insane people ramblings under the cut 🪱👻
watching dp (surprise) and im assigning worm classification to them wahoo
phantom is a breaker/stranger/blaster (going 2 say his powers are just similar to how they are in the show. I think he would just be breaker/stranger at first and then something would be a second trigger for him to give him blaster powers. possibly mirroring the events of ultimate enemy that give him ghostly wail)
plasmius is a breaker/master (ha) (powers are very similar to crusader- able to create and control multiple duplicates of himself at a time)
technus and skulker are both tinkers (technus has a specialty for computer tech, skulkers specialty is weapons/high tech hunting gear)
desiree is a trump (grants temporary powers to others based on their innermost desires)
I think it would be EXTREMELY funny to make box ghost a master. except the things he controls are. cardboard. lmao
spectra is a changer/thinker (shifts her appearance between her two forms, uses thinker powers to needle away at mental weaknesses)
freakshow is NOT a cape but stole multiple artifacts from other capes that give him abilities that make him appear as such (the staff mimics master powers, the gauntlet mimics spacial shaker powers)
kitty is a changer (steals other peoples faces/voice), johnny is a master/striker (master because of Shadow, striker because he's more of a fistfight guy)
pariah is an s-class brute/shaker (extreme strength/durability + the ability to transport an entire city into another dimension and enforce his rule)
fright knight has his illusions maybe he's shaker also?
ember is a master for SURE (anyone who hears her music (special frequencies?) is put under her control)
uhhhhhhhhhh I feel like that's all the important ones really. I feel like I should include clockwork but he feels more like. a force of nature than a cape. he's just like. a facet of the universe he doesn't even count. and despite frostbite + the far frozen inhabitants'... whole deal. I don't think they'd necessarily count as capes either ???? maybe frostbite would be a precog of some kind.

love the tech company trend of promising things that are straight from my pipe dreams and making me realize that they are still very much pipe dreams and what is being sold is completely underbaked
"ai"? that shit is not intelligent. it makes up lies and says them with confidence. it can barely do anything past predicting the next word!
"spacial computing"? does absolutely nothing a vr headset with a camera strapped to it couldn't do, and in fact does less! $3000 btw.
"virtual assistants"? at best, they google things for you, and at worst, they have the exact same drawbacks as "ai", but this time marketed to help!
time to retreat back to my hall of imagination where all of these ideas are actually cool and done well and ethical

[The cave opens up into a large cavern. Thin rocky paths jut across a pool of magma. In the center of the pool is a massive chunk of ice, unaffected by the temperature around it.
Two Team Galactic admins are speaking in front of the ice chunk.
"Yup, definitely a Spacial Distortion. Readings are damn near off the charts." Jupiter holds a device up to the ice chunk, typing the results into a computer on her arm.
"Great sure can you just take a screenshot or something so we can get out of here? I'm melting in this heat." Mars leans against the ice, trying to fan herself.
"Would you just chill out? I just have a little more to go-"
A rumbling cut her off, loose ceiling rock splashing into the magma as the ice begins to glow. The two admins back off as the glow shifts to just below the surface, cracks beginning to show in the smooth ice.
The southern face of the ice bursts open, steam flashing up as it contacts the molten rock completely obscuring the center island.
White Kyurem roars.]

Starting Production🎉🥂
ZippOS is an alternate operating system for stand alone “spacial computing” devices. The goal of this project is to provide end users, who at their own discression, void their warranties to replace pre-packaged software bundled with their hardware. As the lead developer of ZippOS, and as an end user of a “spacial computer”, I am displeased with the current operating software, and the decisions of parent companies that distribute these products are inheriently unstable, brown-nosing share holders and consumers, and completely unaligned with the end users. As these devices are marketed as computers, I want to provide software for said computers as a choice for the end-users who feel the same as I do.
ZippOS will be a lighter(get it?), faster booting operating system built from scratch with Rust-Lang and some ARM/RISC-V assembly code to replace both the BIOS (ZIOS) and the operating system. The operating system’s goal is to have the same user functionality and multimedia multi-instancing in a mixed reality setting, citing BeOS/HaikuOS as inspiration. This operating system will have security and graceful degradation as the main focus for user safety because the main enemy for ZippOS is the companies who made the stock software it replaces on the end-user’s spacial computer. Users can also enjoy various stimulating options for navigating the software (i.e. “rolodex” style hub menus, table-top program/application storefront, “grabbing” and “throwing” programs/screens to be cast/mirrored to and from realspace and cyberspace, etc). ZippOS is a project software operating system under development, and currently has no plans to publicly publish to the open net, nor are there any current plans to open-source the software.

ANOMALY: Interstellar Travel
Thank you @humbleartspawn for so graciously offering me a tie breaker. This section of lore will focus more on the world of ANOMALY along with some of its worldbuilding.
The Skip Drive and Reality's Pond
As most of us know, in real life it is theoretically impossible for anything to move faster than the speed of light. When initially creating ANOMALY I wanted to try my best to stay in line with this theory while also remembering that the genre is called science fiction for a reason.
For almost all species in the galaxy, interstellar travel is achieved through use of a Skip Drive. The drive itself is a massive engine that lies in the deepest parts of a starship, housed within a strong cage capable of containing the immense amounts of negative energy that radiates off the drive. The drives are (unsurprisingly) powered by anti-matter.
The drive is called a 'skip' drive because the way it functions is by wrapping a star ship in a bubble of warped spacial fabric and then displacing the ship from regular, physical reality. The drive's name makes sense during then next step when the bubbled starship skips across the reverse side of reality like a stone across a pond. This allows the ship to technically travel faster than light and arrive at distant stars in a matter of days.
The reason a bubbled ship can move this quickly is because the reverse side of reality functions in opposition to regular reality. On the reverse side, the speed of light is not the speed limit but the speed minimum. Because the ship is being skipped across the reverse side of reality's fabric, it can then travel with much more velocity. The only notable problem with a skip drive is that, because it functions like a stone across a pond, the ship will eventually dip through the reverse side of reality back into regular space, usually meaning that multiple skip drive jumps will be required for longer trips.
Ships can only skip across the fabric of reality's reverse side because they are encased in a bubble of regular reality. This bubble prevents the ship from using regular propulsion as the bubble is not technically part of the reverse side and therefore can not interact with it in the same way. Some would think that the simple solution would be to make a Skip without the bubble but that would just result in everyone aboard the ship dying horribly as matter from regular reality cannot technically exist on the reverse side.
When beginning an interstellar skip, it is vitally important that a pilot allow their ship's computer to calculate a proper course along with finding a suitable entry point into the reverse side. This again goes back to thinking of reality like a pond. If you don't take the time to calculate the throw of your stone and get the throw just right, it is not going to travel very far across the water.

so in honor of the most amazing maknae of all time (maybe other than THE maknae on top😉) I’ve counted how many pics I have of yechan in my camera roll and how many pins I have on my yechan Pinterest board
so I currently have like.. 110 pics of him in my camera roll (imho it’s way too little🤭🤭)
and on the Pinterest board there is a grand total of… 1.1k pins. the only reason there’s that little is because nobody posts that many pins about my man🥲😣
(somebody PLEASE.)
also, random ass question but can you skate??? cause honesty.. i can probably out-skate sunghoon in a race tbh😉🤭🤪
it’s a passion of mine and I’d like to kinda share it with you😖
love from your tied with first favourite asker (I’m still watching you minjaekko anon..🙃)
me: oh that's fun
Tumblr media
me: well this is my task on the internet (its not as bad as seeun/ive had to delete a lot)
"1.1k pins" "so little" 😭😭 i actually don't have that much of them on pinterest because i use that more for my projects so i only save one if it's like "oh i havent seen that one before"
folder on computer is different story because like xikers folder nested inside the 60gb txt folder and there's no organization and its sharing with video so that bulks it (i like to lie to myself)
short answer on skating is a no but the long answer is that i'm a diagnosed uber klutz with no spacial awareness and the vestibular system of a newborn giraffe so i've been banned from most activities that require balance :' ) but i will cheer you on from afar because skating is so cool to watch 💜💜-
