And ignore the fact that there is more estrogen in the traditional "manly" things like Steak and Beer, but they won't stop consuming either of those. It's selective cootie avoidance.
The "soyboy" phenomenon fascinates me so much. like imagine being such a pussy you're terrified of a delicious source of plant proteins and vitamins because you're scared it'll make you gay/weak/feminine/whatever else those idiots think soy beans will do to you.
It's baffling there's no science behind it like these grown men genuinely believe they'll get cooties. from a bean.
#to clarify: Soy has phytoestrogen which is responsible for biological changes in plants.#If you cant get pregnant by a rose or by apple tree pollen you don't have to worry#Beer? same thing. phytoestrogen.#Mammalian estrogen however is what causes the problems like cancer and tumors#this comes from Animal products like cow meat.#Cows also consume Phytoestrogen from animal feed. which usually includes Soy.#but that would require ppl genuinely doing research as opposed to parroting bs blindly.

For the Maya, the honey bee is more than an insect. For millennia, the tiny, stingless species Melipona beecheii -- much smaller than Apis mellifera, the European honey bee -- has been revered in the Maya homeland in what is now Central America. Honey made by the animal the Maya call Xunan kab has long been used in a sacred drink, and as medicine to treat a whole host of ailments, from fevers to animal bites. The god of bees appears in relief on the walls of the imposing seacliff fortress of Tulum, the sprawling inland complex of Cobá, and at other ancient sites.
Today, in small, open-sided, thatched-roof structures deep in the tropical forests of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, traditional beekeepers still tend to Xunan kab colonies. The bees emerge from narrow openings in their hollow log homes each morning to forage for pollen and nectar among the lush forest flowers and, increasingly, the cultivated crops beyond the forests’ shrinking borders. And that is where the sacred bee of the Maya gets into trouble.
---
In 2012, the Mexican government granted permission to Monsanto to plant genetically modified soybeans in Campeche and other states on the peninsula without first consulting local communities. The soybeans are engineered to withstand high doses of the controversial weedkiller Roundup; multiple studies have shown exposure to its main ingredient, glyphosate, negatively impacts bees, including by impairing behavior and changing the composition of the animals’ gut microbiome. Though soy is self-pollinating and doesn’t rely on insects, bees do visit the plants while foraging, collecting nectar and pollen as they go. Soon, Maya beekeepers found their bees disoriented and dying in high numbers. And Leydy Pech found her voice.
A traditional Maya beekeeper from the small Campeche city of Hopelchén, Pech had long advocated for sustainable agriculture and the integration of Indigenous knowledge into modern practice. But the new threat to her Xunan kab stirred her to action as never before. She led an assault on the Monsanto program on multiple fronts: legal, academic, and public outrage, including staging protests at ancient Maya sites. The crux of the legal argument by Pech and her allies was that the government had violated its own law by failing to consult with Indigenous communities before granting the permit to Monsanto. In 2015, Mexico’s Supreme Court unanimously agreed. Two years later, the government revoked the permit to plant the crops.
---
As Pech saw it, the fight was not simply about protecting the sacred bee. The campaign was to protect entire ecosystems, the communities that rely on them, and a way of life increasingly threatened by the rise of industrial agriculture, climate change, and deforestation.
“Bees depend on the plants in the forest to produce honey,” she told the public radio program Living on Earth in 2021. “So, less forest means less honey [...]. Struggles like these are long and generational. [...] ”

Can we have a complete list of all their allergies, including how they discovered them? I imagine on the Isle, someone has died from a severe allergy at least once & nobody ever noticed because they just revived due to the barrier (May Beast rot in Hell).
Oh no, it's so much worse than being revived. See, Isle kids can only die every other Thursday, when Thanatos is allowed to do his job on the Isle. Until he comes and frees their souls, they're just trapped in their bodies. This is why cremation is so popular- a soul can't be trapped in a body if there's no body to be trapped in.
Allergies are a terrifying thing on the Isle. A lot of kids have died to allergies, and those who survive adverse reactions usually don't even know what triggered it, because they don't know what they're eating half of the time. And for the people who had a sibling who died of an allergic reaction (Spider used to have an older brother, Worthless, who died of anaphylaxis,) it's even more terrifying because they know that there might be lethal allergies running in their family, but since they have no idea what triggered the episode that killed their sibling, they have no idea what to avoid in case they might also be allergic to it.
Jay is allergic to cats, mildly. He's always known that cats can cause him to feel weird, the allergies test just confirmed that it wasn't all in his head.
Mal is allergic to iron and holy water, as in anaphylaxis. She's always known- it's a fae thing.
Rose and Ace are both allergic to latex, on the more severe end of moderate. It's not lethal, but uncomfortable to say the least. You do not want to know how they know this.
CJ is allergic to dairy, on the more severe end of moderate. Her anaphylaxis hasn't been life-threatening so far (her throat swells but doesn't completely close,) but it isn't fun. This will not stop her from eating ice cream. She's known since she was around eleven, when it started. Harriet didn't know until CJ was twelve because CJ didn't think it was that important.
Harriet has allergies to dairy, soy, beef, and some legumes and seeds, though her reactions are on the milder side of moderate. She knows because her father has the same allergies and he confirmed that her symptoms were definitely allergic reactions. (None of hers have been tested due to distance issues but she figures if it walks like a duck)
Harry is allergic to peanuts and some beans. It was worse when he was little, but he's grown out of it a bit and his symptoms are relatively mild. He's also got a severe poultry allergy (allergic to consuming poultry, not the birds themselves,) but they think that's probably not "real" and it's just his immune system freaking out after his recent near-death salmonella experience from chicken, and it'll probably go away after a while.
Claudine is allergic to poison ivy. As in she gets an allergic reaction even if she doesn't touch it, even from just the pollen in the air, and she gets a pretty severe allergic reaction- two Epi Pens and 911 and ambulance immediately levels of severe. She learned this during a walk outdoors at Xavier's school, when the pollen from poison ivy caused her face and throat to start swelling. CJ was with her and recognized an allergic reaction, and thankfully she had the Epi-Pens prescribed for her own allergies with her. The reaction kept going once the epinephrine had worn off so she needed to be intubated and put on some serious anti-allergy medications, but she was fine.
Gil is severely allergic to most shellfish- allergic as in two Epi-Pens, 911 immediately, intubation, and as much as a two-week stay in the hospital because the reaction can fuck with his lungs and cause things like pneumonia or bronchitis. He's even allergic to non-crustecean shellfish (like clams and abelone,) and allergic to some types of saltwater fish (like swordfish, even though he's never even seen a swordfish,) though those aren't quite as severe. He found this out while eating dinner at the institute- Remy had made a seafood gumbo from New Orleans, Gil had some, and the reaction was pretty much instant. Thank the gods there were multiple doctors in the room.
Mischa has a mild nightshade allergy- potatoes and tomatoes, mostly, but other members of the family can cause issues if ingested. He just thought his stomach didn't vibe with potatoes, but no, he's allergic to several things. He discovered this during the allergy tests.
Andi is allergic to birch and, because of that, is also allergic to several types of fruits, most of them stone fruits. It's not a severe allergy- Benadryl bad, not Epi-Pen bad- but it still sucks because she likes apples. This was discovered during the allergy tests
Malcolm is allergic to pork, which is fine by him because he doesn't like pork anyway. He's also allergic to cats, which he's far more bothered by, but both allergies are minor irritants.
Ivy is allergic to most imitation animal products- fake leather, fake fur, imitation gator skin, it all causes skin reactions (she does not know what would happen if she ingested it, does not want to know, and why would she ever need to worry about that she's not about to eat pleather.) She's on a few topical ointments to help the skin recover in case of accidental exposure. She's always known (runs in the family,) but now she's learning which ingredients she's allergic to so she can avoid other things that use them.
Veronica and Carlos (and probably Diego, but he can't get tested yet due to distance issues) have the same allergies
Joss is allergic to chlorine. It's mostly a skin reaction but it can be a more serious allergic reaction if she were ever to consume enough chlorine for some reason (like if she were to drink too much tap water, which had chlorine in it.) She's figured it could be a possibility because it's a common allergy in part-merfolk people, so she asked to be tested.
Claudine, Tara, Polina, Nikita, Giles, Gordon, and Mora are all allergic to alpha-gal (red meat allergy.) Polina and Nikita don't have major reactions but the rest can. The Isle has a major tick problem. This was all discovered during the allergy test.

Do you have any headcanons about sebastian having allergies because my boy hates all egg things apart From void eggs which you don’t eat. Personally I slap him with a sickly Emo basement boy card.
Oooo this is a fun one!! >:3 As a fellow emo who doesn’t go outdoors much, I like to imagine he probably has similar allergies to myself.
As far as eggs go, I genuinely think he just doesn’t like them
Other dairy products, on the other hand.. god keep that shit away from him
Very lactose intolerant. Needs to take medicine before eating ice cream or drinking dairy milk or anything or he will have tummy problems!!
That said, oat milk and soy milk are his preferences for lattes/tea/the occasional choccy milk
Even though it’s not as obvious as Sam, Seb has hay fever and pollen allergies too. Rather than a stuffy nose, he just gets itchy eyes (although, let’s face it, they’re probably always itchy with how much computer time he gets daily).
He has to keep an air purifier in his room to prevent dust buildup between cleanings. If too much accumulates, he becomes a sneezy, teary-eyed mess

Okay, some stuff for Alan's maternal family, because because
Lamar and Felicia Ellis had four children- two daughters, two sons- half of whom run the family farm
Their eldest girl- Pamela- got an office job in a city a few hours to the north, while their youngest- Robert- preaches at the local church
While only the family and people involved know what happened in Alan's premiere, that whole church knows somebody did something bigoted that got Father Ellis's ire up because he was preaching hellfire on the topic that next Sunday
The older boy and younger girl- Douglas and Jessica- both run the farm, him out there managing their workers, keeping a physical eye on things, putting in the physical labor, and her working from home managing the numbers, data files, tracking shit, and occasionally coming out to give a hand when needed or give things a once over
All the kids have land that belongs to them personally, generally just a one or two acres that all but Pam live on, but the majority of the family's land is still owned by their parents- who have technically retired from actually working the farm though they're still involved- and will be passed down to them as a group when they pass
The Ellises have their hands in a couple different pies, from crops to livestock- it doesn't so much make them more money as it does make their income more stable (if something goes wrong- which it always can with agriculture- they've got back-up income)
On the crop side you'll see a lot of dent corn that's used on-property (dent corn is the norm for animal feed) but it's generally as part of a rotation with cash crops of soy and tomatoes. You'll also see grapevines in one corner which are sold to local markets for fresh eating
Well, most of them are, Jessie has her own little plot on her land that feeds a homebrew hobby when her children and niblings aren't picking the vines clean for snacks
On the livestock side they do pasture poultry (relatively recent development, but they did the numbers and decided the higher going price for pasture made up for the expenses) and a hybrid dairy/beef system
The older three of the siblings are all married with kids- Pam's got two sons, Doug's got two daughters and a son, Jessie's got three sons and a daughter- while the youngest has neither and isn't really feeling a lack
Only one of his five cousins are Alan's age- his uncle's younger daughter, Jasmine- and the two of them have a 'besties who give each other shit' dynamic as a result of growing up together while also being rivals
While it's variable how much interest the grandchildren have in continuing work with the farm, everybody knows Alan and Jas will be running shit someday
Nine grandkids, two are guaranteed to keep with the farm, two work there in the summer to pay for college but one doesn't intend to stick around and the other is iffy, one is a definite no given the option (nasty pollen allergies and 'I am never pulling another calf fuck you'), and the younger four are all too young to really say
Jason- Jessie's youngest boy and Alan's youngest brother- is the best bet looking at him as of AF but he's also like eight so...
The family is close over all and they all get together at least once a year for Christmas, and every other year for Thanksgiving
Whatever happens, the farm their family has built over generations past is guaranteed to be in good hands going forward

Angel-Chapter 1
Training class started how it normally did. Coach Corsi was rambling on about some new technique. Today being, ‘how to drop from any surface and immediately be ready for a battle’. Most students would venture off into pairs, practicing said technique. Unfortunately for students like Jenevieve, whose powers were deemed “useless” in a fight, they were signing their lives away to a new career builder that Dr.Moira thinks will help make mutants seem more “humane to the public eye”. “So, what are you thinking about trying this year Jeni? I heard there’s some openings at that new Morgue down in Manhattan. That's science-y enough for you, right?” Jubilee, one of Jenevieve’s closest friends, asks while opening her bento box and offering up a carrot. “I mean it is, but who wants to spend their entire summer staring into the sweet eyes of death all day? Besides, Charles says I've passed my limit in the science field. Something about wanting me to “branch out and see what else tickles my fancy”. It’s stupid.” She quietly rolls her eyes. “What does that even mean “branching out”? I try new things! He makes me sound like some loser ass turtle.” “You do have a tendency of hiding inside yourself Jeni. You can’t exactly be mad at him for that. It’s his job to look after us as mutants y'know~GASP~ Maybe you could work with me and Ororo at this cute little cafe in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s called “Silk Joy Cafe.” I’ve heard some pretty good reviews and it sounds like a bunch of fun?! Plus, You’ll be with people you know down there.” Jenevieve almost felt bad at how big Jubilee’s eyes had gotten. She wasn’t into the whole “touching people’s food and listening to their depressing lives as they swallowed down their oat milk soy bean lattes with an extra shot of bee pollen”. Having powers that give you a birds eye view into people and random objects’ lives can do that to ya. Although, living an hour away from New Salem and her parents did sound like an absolute dream. Jenevieve propped up her elbow. “ It sounds great, Jubes! Not the bakery part, but maybe I can find a place to intern down there. We can get a nice place close by and I’ll even get free snacks and coffee from you guys. It’s perfect!” Jenevieve gets up and starts making her way to Dr. Moira’s office. “Hey Doc- Oh Hi Professor X! I didn’t know you guys would be in here together.” “Actually Jenevieve, we were just talking about you. You still haven’t picked a place to intern at yet. I was starting to worry. But according to Jubilee, It seems you girls are thinking of traveling to Hell's Kitchen. That sounds quite fun!” Charles starts. “Um, yeah. She was saying there’s a bakery down there that she and Ororo are gonna work at. Do you by any chance know if there’s any available jobs in the area?” “Of course he was listening to our conversation” She says to herself knowing Charles can’t read her mind. “Actually, I was one step ahead of you. There’s a couple of Law Firms down there and I think that would be a perfect place for you.” Jenevieve looks on timidly. “Law… Firms? That doesn’t exactly sound like something I’d be into sir. Um with all do respect, of course. And wouldn’t I have to interact with mean asshole liars all day? That definitely doesn’t sound like somewhere I’d fit in nor want to be.” “I understand your concerns, but I think this would actually be a perfect opportunity for you, dear. A way of getting out of your comfortable little molecular shell that you cage off into. Maybe it’s time you try something new. Most of them aren't that bad anyway. We’ll find you a nice one like always.” Moira butts in trying to make her feel more comfortable. “Well… I guess I could give it a try. I can’t promise that I’ll love it, but it is something different I guess.” “Then it’s settled! We’ll email you all the information you’ll need and I’ll get you girls a nice place in Manhattan. How does that sound, Jenevieve ?” Charles claps his hands together. “ It sounds great. Uh, thanks… again.” She breathlessly laughs, walking out feeling as defeated as ever.
Author's Note: sooo, I wrote this back in like August, so if there are any mistakes, sorry. The formatting might be weird too cause I write everything in google docs first, but it should be fine. Feedback is always encouraged. Just don't be rude, y'know. Enjoy<3

3, 4 and 26!!
3. what’s your favorite candle scent?
Sandalwood. I have a soy candle that is pure sandalwood and I have one that is sandalwood and rose, and they are both divine. Around Christmastime we do burn one though that smells like oranges and cloves.
4. what flower would you like to be given?
Any type of flower would be lovely! Though lilies are a no-go since they are toxic for cats - even the pollen that might stick to your clothes - and my partner has a cat, so there's that. Though I am partial to peonies and lavender, or anything that comes in pastels.
26. what movie would you want to live in?
Good question! Ghibli does come to mind, though I haven't watched that many Ghibli movies (shocking, I know!) but I love Victorian and gothic architecture, so for vibes and aesthetics alone? I'll go with Crimson Peak.
Thank you so much for asking! ♥
soft asks to get to know people

I’m allergic to shellfish, soy protien, pollen and the general outdoors, and sulfa . Ironically , this post states all humans are allergic to poison ivy but I am not , I can touch it with out getting a rash or reaction lol
Okay Wait I need to test something
Editing for clarity as there's been some confusion in the notes:
If you're allergic to an animal that is respiratory or skin or both depending on what allergic reaction you get. If it happens after ingesting said animal that's food
Medicine falls under other, I am so sorry to all the people allergic to penicillin (&others) I forgot that medicine was a thing that existed
If you're allergic to something in the way all humans are allergic, like poison ivy or mosquitos, then you can hit no
That being said, if you're allergic to a certain plant or medication and it doesn't impact your life because you never interact with it, you're still allergic
Hopefully I addressed everything, more edits may be to come. Thank you all for participating in this incredibly scientific survey
