I do have to say, that unlike the ancient Greek beliefs that may have some overlapping gods and maybe even had a sort of vague pantheon that although some communities may worship one god more than the other, still had a sort of connecting unity to some degree with their myths and legends, the ethnic groups of the Philippines had a LOT more differences when it comes to myths about their pantheons even within the same island. In fact, I would say the difference is probably closer to the difference between Norse mythology and Greek mythology just to explain how different things are between groups.
Bathala, for example, who had come from the Tagalog pantheon and has since been nationalized after the Spanish used his name as an equivalence to the Christian God, is not the head god of the Bicolano pantheon of which culture exists just neighboring the Tagalogs. To the Bicolanos, the head god was not Bathala but Gugurang, a god that resided within the Mayon volcano.
The Tagalogs also have an extremely different pantheon of gods that don't seem to have a lot of overlap with the Bicolanos as there's no specific equivalence between Bathala and Gugurang besides being the head gods, likewise even their rivals Sitan and Ulilang Kaluluwa for Bathala and Asuang for Gugurang have no correlation whatsoever just to name some examples.
This is just two groups that literally neighbor each other within the same island yet have little in common in terms of pantheons. Although the Tagalog pantheon and mythology seem to be the most common these days with most referring to it when discussing Filipino mythology, I do encourage looking up and researching the different myths and pantheons of different ethnic groups and regions.
You are Filipino? Do you have in your culture ancient deities like the Greek gods? I looked somewhere that the king of them is called Bathala and in general it would look interesting to see deities from other cultures as well.
There's a bunch of mythology yeah! My favorite is the Bakunawa, a giant serpent that swallowed the 6 moons. I think there is something similar to a pantheon but I don't know too much about it, but under Bathala were more gods too. Here's a wiki article on it haha, I don't know a lot since my mom didn't want me learning about "pagan gods" or something, which, that sucks this would have been so interesting. What's neat is it's very varied depending on ethnic origin right, because before the Spaniards came right, Philippines wasn't a whole nation as much as it was a bunch of ethnic groups who lived together and traded with each other and stuff, so each group had their own version of the divine
#reblog#sorry for the essay im just really passionate about filipino mythology#especially the drama between gugurang and asuang#those two are brothers yet they're at each others throats because of jealousy#anw im not sure how accurate these all are or if all the links are good#esp since it's really hard to find good sources for myths that aren't tagalog#but yeah#uhhh feel free for anyone to correct me abt any of this it's been a while#philippines#philippine mythology#tagalog#tagalog mythology#bicolano#bicolano mythology

for the last couple of months now ive been workin on reinventin my cyberpunk ttrpg NEON SPIRITS to be more evocative, more explicitly southeast asian, more in-line with my current politics and worldview and also just, more actual textual conveyance of the themes i originally wanted to impart. and part of that was a move away from the traditional 70s to 80s retrofuturist aesthetics that to late 90s to y2k retrofuturism
im far from the first to do it (ttrpgheads, go look up cybermetal 2012) but i realized another reason why i was drawn to the change, besides just the novelty. my primary aesthetic inspiration for NEON SPIRITS' setting is the congested concrete heart i grew up in, the filipino capital of manila, specifically my neighborhood in tondo. living here, u can sense a distinct *old-ness* in its tech culture that u only ever rly see in other parts of the philippines, & the global south more broadly
like some examples:
theres a piso-net near my house (if u dont know what that is, google it), and just a day or two ago, i saw a little kid there playing on one of the pcs; the graphic quality of the game told me it was absolutely made between the late 90s to early 00s. i remember watching on an old box tv and using a landline phone waaay into the 2010s until eventually we switched to a flatscreen and people stopped ringing up the landline. our living room cd-stereo is just collecting dust upstairs now, but we put that shit on play late into noynoys presidency. facebook, THE social media platform that ppl in the west see as for old people, continues to be the hotspot for social media activity in the ph; young ppl have started gravitating to twitter in the last decade or so, but fb is still where we message and post and keep up on online announcements
advanced technology as a class barrier is extremely charted territory for the cyberpunk genre. but in ttrpg worlds, it tends to come in the form of "high tech is commonplace, but the even higher/cooler tech is only affordable to the wealthy"; very "everyones got a phone but only rich people have the iphone 15" kind of energy. it sorta has basis in reality, but its also a perspective that comes from a privileged position, primarily from countries at the core of the geopolitical economy
for countries that live out in the periphery of this economy, we r always the last to get new commercialized technology—even when a household has the kind of wealth to be in proximity to the core. were almost always the source for this tech—whether its the manufacturing materials stolen from our soil or the manufacturers themselves—but its always too expensive to proliferate here at the same time it does for the us or uk or spain or elsewhere in the global north
we hafta wait till it hits the bargain bin for us to actually use it; and by the time we do, its already out of date by a couple years (this is also why piracy is so frequent a practice here even among bougie families like mine)
#pissposting#ttrpgs#theres not rly an overall point to this#i just had a thought & followed it#i finally at least solidify the why behind neon spirits' new aesthetics

Im good :)
I also didn't really like Lizzie's character, but I loved natasha's cause I thought she was very funny.
I actually didn't have a problem with how much dialogue there was, there was just something missing for me (idk what). I also didn't really like how it switched scenes often cause I felt like many of the times it just cut half of the scene away, but that might just be me🤷🏼♀️ i also expected it to be a lot more sad cause I have seen many people say they cried when they watched it, but I didn't find it sad at all, i mean the topic is ofcourse sad but I don't think the movie was at all, like not even when the dad died.
-🐮
i had to watch the whole thing first before replying to this ask :)
I do like natasha's character more after seeing the rest of the movie. And christina's too, because she's so kind and so much more mature than the other two. She's like their mom. I think a lot of the scenes that just cut abruptly mimics real life--it is what it is.
Life is simply... what it is.
I cried during the time Rachel was saying "he's my dad too". And then Katie apologizing in another scene, saying, "im sorry i wasnt here to help". In Filipino culture, when you have siblings, there is always that one sibling that will both bear the burden and have the privilege of living with their parent to take care of them when they are old. The sibling who stays with the parent tend to get a lot of criticisms from the other siblings who think they know better. But they just dont get the sacrifice that the sibling who stayed had to make to be able to take care of someone, to sacrifice their own lives for their family.
By the end of it, i was invested in each of the sisters and the dad too, and i was rooting so hard for them to be closer after their dad is dead. I think in the end, our parents wants us to be closer to our siblings and to look out for each other, and i think that's all they want, to be assured that their children wont ever feel alone when they are gone. Tho in my case, im an only child and when the time comes that i lose them, i...im not sure how ill be able to handle it. Ill cross the bridge when i get there.
I agree it's not too sad because for me it had a happy ending. It was more hopeful than depressing. And i liked that about the movie :)

some more yapping from me my bad !!!!!!!!!!!!
more info on my dolly mc insert that i might just turn into an actual oc if im gonna keep yapping about her anyways... sorry im kinda noodled brained rn im trying to stay up since my classes are at 7 am anyways and its already almost 4 am and i slept half the day yesterday(today MAN idk.)
i feel like her family immigrated to the US (hawaii i think? so maybe her childhood was there until they were somehow forced to move mainland) when travel was allowed, to do that thing that most filipino people do when going overseas to work ( to provide a better life for their family back in the homeland) so she's either likely third gen or second gen? basta. ingana rawr a lot of young single men went to the US historically, so im unsure if she was born in the US from marriage with an unnamed american or if shes from fully filipino parents ill think about it more in the morning after i fully comprehend this research paper im reading about it.. unfortunately i cant find much information right now about the history of asian people and flapper culture, apart from the icon and legend anna may wong, so im just going to go about this as carefully as i can (and maybe try to put more effort into digging up more sources GRRRRRRRRR) basic information..... name: chesa dorothy (DOLLY get it im so smart akshoeally.) aquino she goes by dorothy most of the time since its the more american sounding name... thinking emoji also alastor and dorothy sound so cute.... im going NUTS age: im thinking 25-27 ??? im not sure how old al is here honestly height: rawr 5'3" filipino gene debuff idc SEA lady core.
another note: little details on her rn that i like is that im so happy i actually get to incorporate flowers into her hair since it was popular to do that at this time period with ribbon flowers, but i wanted it specifically to look like sampaguitas which i are an homage to her parents home country even if shes never seen it and of course her love for pearls WAHHHHHUHUDDDDDDDD AHHHHHHHHH murag pearl of the orient moment :9 im so tempted to have her be called mutya (pearl) as a nickname since i think her pader wouldve love calling her that huhuhuhuhuhu (dead parent/s assignation that led to her flapper lifestyle ?? eyes)
idk im gonna rot about it more in literal jazz class later, i cant wait to go back home so i can actually draw on my screentab UGH my pen tab in the dorm just doesnt cut it sometimes the pen pressure is all over the place but i want to draw WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH (dies)

Workshop : Soft Sculpture
Disrupt Project
Week 1 :
For my primary source I traced an image of the National animal of my ethnic country. The Philippines. The animal is a Tamaraw, also known as a Filipino Bull. I used the image of the bull and stiched it with yarn. With that i used this specific image to be my primary source and come up with a concept for my final piece.
I started to stitch onto my tracing paper in the shape of my bull. I really loved how it turned out.it gave me an opportunity to think about how I want my final piece to look like. I also thought about embroidering and how that could possibly be my final piece, however i was very open into trying pattern cutting and sewing.
I wanted to try pattern cutting and sewing but embroidering the cow on the image above was very fun to do. I worked on my first pattern for this final piece, however i was having trouble in figuring out how im going to do the pattern since it wasn’t falling into place like i thought it would. So I’ve got sample after sample of the pattern trying to figure it out but it would not work. Figuring out the fabric wasnt as stressful however the fabric shown ended up not being used for the final piece.
I began to precisely draw my pattern and cut it out using the snake fabric. I sketched out my plan of what i want the ‘plushie’ to look like before starting. I ended using the snake fabric because as snakes being constrictor i decided to tie that in on how Japan,America and Spain attempted to grab a hold on the Philippines and having the fabric be the shape of the tamaraw’s head ties in perfectly oh what im trying to achieve in this project.

I’m a big fan of HxH too which Gege draws inspiration from heavily. The Chimera Ant Arc is considered one of the greatest pieces of literature by fans. The kicker is…as it was coming out in a weekly format, everyone hated it. Only after it was finished and read uninterrupted did people really start loving it. I almost wonder if that’ll happen with the Sukuna fight too.
Media Literacy curse in JJK fans is really funny to me regardless. Gojo’s racism didn’t come out of nowhere. He was already kind of sus to Miguel in JJK0. This only confirmed the allegations people picked up on then. One thing I love about Gege’s writing is future information permanently changing how you view older scenes. This is one of those times. It makes me love Gojo more tbh. (I have a soft spot for racists who try to do better.)
People are too hard on Megumi for sure (even if I find the memes kind of funny). Not a lot of people realized that he spent his 16th birthday trapped inside Sukuna all by himself. Which probably made the Tsumiki death feel even worse. (I have no doubt she forced him to celebrate it.) Then he kills his adopted father and has 0 family left and is somehow supposed to tough it out. He’s just a little boy!
Yuji has always been built bigger too. His official weight is super heavy for his height. Gege explicitly stated that was done on purpose. Smh I wish people could read.
It’s funny you say that. Visiting Hawai’i radicalized me significantly. I spent a good deal of my time picking up trash and seething at the golf courses and other severe ecological damage brought on by colonization. In an ideal world [redacted]. Anyways I think you should rant about it too.
OOOOO I WILL RANT, so sorry about this in advance btw. After that I’ll get back to JJK
So I am Hawaiian-Filipino, my father is white however I was raised by my mother who held the ideals she grew up with.
Now the problem with tourism is not only does it actively mess up the environment but it also destroys the economy in Hawai’i, which I don’t need to go over I don’t think.
BUT THE WHOLE THING, IS THAT IT IS STOLEN LAND. And Native Hawaiians are STILL being kicked out of their homes, STILL struggling with everything they lost in Lahaina, STILL struggling with the water being poisoned. And yet people STILL have the audacity to take a “cute little vacation to perfect Hawai’i”.
I can NEVER go to the islands, the islands my family are from mind you, BECAUSE TOURISM FUCKED THEM UP. The amount of disrespect tourists have for the islands is insane. I can’t speak on what tourism is really like as I have never been to Hawai’i except for when I was an infant. But I do see what Native Hawaiians say, I see the damage caused by tourists when I see content by the Hawaiians.
And it’s frustrating, so very frustrating. How can people be SO disrespectful to land that they not only visit, but actively keep colonized.
I always encourage everyone to do their own research on Hawai’i and Hawaiian culture! Especially before America comes in and colonizes them. It’s hard to find accurate sources, and it’s been a while since I’ve done my own research so I don’t have any available websites on their history.
Okay I’m stopping while im ahead. Thanks for letting me get that out!
Back to JJK
You’re so right about EVERYTHING ‼️‼️
Honestly, the weekly format is only “annoying” because they wait, expect the story to drastically change, and then get more story the next week. And it HAS to be something different or it’s Bad Writing (so incredibly NOT happy with people saying that Gege’s writing is bad, there are some iffy moments but it’s overall AMAZING)
Tbh I think the internet has ruined people’s media literacy, so I encourage everyone to write something, but you can’t outright state what you’re trying to say in your story. Let your friends guess what your story conveys, it’s a great way to help boost media literacy (it’s like if ELA class was cool)
And I think we’ve covered everything about Megumi and Yuji.
Once again thank you for talking with me, especially about things I’m passionate about! It means a lot :))

hahaha so real, as someone who is mixed race i fully feel this
right before i started seeing my ex last year, i was (very) drunk at a tailgate for a football game and was introduced to this guy who was mexican. and he was like “where are you from?” and i said “well florida but i was born in texas” and then he was like “no no no, like where are you from”
and i said “oh you piece of shit i was born in san antonio but im fucking mexican and filipino” and he goes “no im so sorry, i’m from El Paso! im mexican too!” and then we dapped one another up and he gave me a beer for my troubles.
