Eden: (happily running over to Arei) Hey, Arei! Today's the 22nd!
Arei: (confused) Huh?
Eden: (explaining) They say the 22nd of every month is "Couple's Day"! It's nice to know that we have a monthly day dedicated to all the couples in the world!
Arei: (glaring at Eden) I'm tired of listening to you. Don't talk to me, uggo. You're annoying. I'm not interested and to be honest, I don't give a crap!
Arei: (snidely) And, besides, we can't even relate to that yet! You're so annoying!
Eden/Arei: ....
Eden: (smiling) You're right! We can't relate to that YET!
Arei: (blushing and sputtering in embarrassment)

What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands? (Animation)
Written by: A.C. Bradley
Directed by: Bryan Andrews
This is kind of an odd recommendation for me to write since I normally don't do series like this (the only one that came close might have been Akkun to Kanojo) but after watching it and forcing @tsukaramachi and my friend Cherry to watch it, we all came to the conclusion to that this episode does have a yandere in it. It's probably the darkest and best written one of the What If...? series, and if you haven't watched it already, I'd highly recommend it if you love the Marvel series. I honestly thought that this title meant he lost his actual heart instead of his hands, but it's more of an emotional "lost his heart" kind of thing, haha.
The general premise of the What If...? series is an alternate universe where one or a couple things are changed. This can be something small like Peggy Carter becoming Captain America (or in her case, Captain Britain) to more world-changing events like the Zombie Apocalypses. We watch through the perspective of a being called The Watcher, who, as his name suggests, watches over the different worlds, however, cannot interfere with what happens within them. There is a more overarching story with him, however, each story is more or less standalone.
This episode, What if...Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands? is the fourth of the series. While it's nice to have watched the Dr. Strange movie, it's not necessary to understand what happens in this episode. The story starts off with Dr. Strange driving his lover Christine to an awards ceremony for Dr. Strange, however, on the drive there, the car gets totaled, killing Christine and leaving a grief-stricken Dr. Strange. The rest of the movie plays out before he sits reminiscing about his past and decides to use the Time Stone to go back and see Christine. He goes back over and over again attempting to save Christine's life, whether it be to take another route, ditch the party and eat pizza with her instead or just straight up ditching her. In every scenario, Christine ends up dying, causing Dr. Strange to become more grief-stricken. The Ancient One comes to see Dr. Strange and attempts to stop him from resurrecting Christine, as it's an absolute point in time, something that cannot be changed. Dr. Strange rebels against this and tries to find knowledge from Cagliostro, someone who knew about breaking Absolute Points. In an attempt to stop him, The Ancient One sends out a beam of magic, which causes Dr. Strange to suddenly arrive at a temple. While there, he meets the O'Bengh, who leads him into the library inside. There, Dr. Strange attempts to find sources of dark magic in order to gain enough power to break the Absolute Point. While he initially fails, he eventually summons and absorbs enough dark creatures to gain new powers, transforming himself into a monstrous version of himself. After gaining enough power, he goes back to find O'Bengh, old and near death, as Dr. Strange (now dubbed, "Strange Supreme") has locked himself in time for centuries gaining new dark powers. O'Bengh reveals that he's only "half of a person" and informs him that his other half is still out there for him to absorb. We cut to another version of Dr. Strange, the one who decided not to go back in time to see Christine. When he goes outside, the world is in tatters, and the Ancient One comes to him, revealing that when she sent out the beam of magic, she actually split the timeline and that it's up to him to destroy Strange Supreme. Dr. Strange prepares for a battle against himself by placing protections spells on him before being kidnapped by Strange Supreme. The two engage in a battle, where they try to convince the other to join their side, only for both to fail. Eventually, Strange Supreme succeeds in absorbing Dr. Strange and resurrecting Christine. Christine is at first, very confused and terrified at what's happening, as Strange Supreme is in his monstrous form. As the world starts to fall apart, Strange Supreme attempts to stop it, not wanting his actions to destroy the world. He begs to the Watcher to help his world from collapsing, however, the Watcher refuses, maintaining that he cannot interfere. As the world falls apart, Strange Supreme is forced to lose Christine for the last time and is trapped alone.
I was not expecting Marvel to give me a yandere based episode of What If, and probably the best one at that. I'm a huge sucker for animation (specifically western animation, but I adore anime as well), so when I saw that Marvel was creating a rotoscoped, cell shaded Marvel animated series, I jumped on immediately. The story itself was always meant to be dark, as Strange Supreme never stopped finding a way to revive Christine, even when countless people told him that he should just move on. His yandere actions are through the roof though, as he struggles again and again to go back in time to save her and even goes through the effort of spending centuries absorbing and turning into monsters just for her. Although near the end, he seems to have become a more forced redeemed yandere (as he didn't want his actions to destroy the world, but by that point, it was already too late) but it is possible that he still might be one considering he does appear in later episodes. I was actually wondering extremely hard in my head if this was a yandere episode considering I didn't find anything stating that it was, but all the actions line up. He sacrificed everything to revive the love of his life and even caused the world to end because of it. It's a really good way to show just how persistent yanderes can be and just how much they're willing to sacrifice. It also shows how grief can turn a character into a yandere, when they're not able to save the person that they love. This is also done a lot with more family tropes, when a character attempts to revive their spouse and child (for instance, in the Spider Verse movie), but I've never seen one specifically succeed and bring about such a dark ending to a show.
As much as I loved watching this episode, I was sort of triggered by the "Christine's" after I played MaZM Phantom of the Opera (God knows how many times I've said Christine lately, it just never ends) and Strange Supreme I felt was kind of stupid since I'm pretty sure he should know that Absolute Points in time are probably there for a reason and that messing with something like that will have consequences, but I suppose in these kinds of darker stories, hindsight is 20/20 and its often too late when they've realized what they've done and that there's just no way for them to turn back time.
Overall, I really loved watching this episode. The other Marvel What If...? episodes are also fun to watch, but this one really hit me in the heart (get it, because he lost his heart instead of his hands) and just shows how dark and well-written yanderes can be if given the chance.

English Translation: My Sweet Tyrant
Genre: Romance, School, Comedy, Short episodes
Tumblr media
Synopsis:
“Despite his incredible bashfulness, Atsuhiro "Akkun" Kagari has landed the girl of his dreams: the sweet and loveable Non Katagiri. However, his embarrassment for affectionate acts—from giving compliments to exchanging a kiss—causes him to act harsh and downright mean to Katagiri in their day-to-day lives. But Akkun is still very much a boy in love; and he shows his admiration for Katagiri in his own way. From tailing her in order to take her picture to eavesdropping in on her conversations, he ends up stalking his own girlfriend.
Luckily enough, Katagiri finds Akkun's actions cute and endearing, and knows he doesn't really mean any of his insults. Even if their close friend, Masago Matsuo, finds their dynamic a little odd, Katagiri loves her sweet tyrant just the way he is.”
