Khade vs Khorne: Abjuration

Both Khadite and Khornate daemons are enemies of magic, but the exact nature and method of this anti-aethyr approach is different.

Khornate daemons are nigh-immune to magic and this is due to their utter contempt for those who use it for battle. It steps directly from Khorne and, with the exception of some particularly ancient Blood Daemons, it is baked into their very beings. Magic rolls off of them like water off a dug, fails to work around them or gutters like a flame in the wind whenever they come around. In more intense situations, magic may actually explode in their presence, spells misfiring and miscasting violently and often, damaging the mage who wove the spell. Khornate abjuration is passive. This immunity comes at a price: they are not capable of magic themselves.

Khadite daemons would be better describe as magic resistant rather than immune to magic. In this way, they are capable of some spells themselves, particularly from the Lore of Unmaking. Unmaking Lore is abjurative magic that is chiefly concerned with the destruction of other magic. They can also work wards and other barriers, which resist, weaken, or unbind enemy spells. They can silence enemy wizards, as well as siphon their power, and particularly powerful Khadite Unmakers can even remove or permanently cripple their ability to cast magic at all. For fellow daemons, who are beings made of magic, Unmaking spells quite literally rip them apart atom by atom. They might find reforming unassisted difficult, maybe even impossible, necessitating their transformation into a Soulgrinder (which comes with it's own risks). Khadite abjuration is active.

Just started a new show that from all external media made it seem like a comedic macabre take on the zombie apocalypse when the first episode hits me with existential soulgrinding capitalist nightmare.

It mentions Soulgrinders which might mean those meme machines might get moved to CSM?

So now we are getting codex leaks before it even is time for a preorder? If this escalation continues in a year we get leaks before the book even goes goes to print. I just wish GW would swap to free digital rules aready, would make them look a lot less stupid.

Overall that detachment looks fairly tame for everything that is not a Maulerfiend. Because that's what it is: you play 3 Maulerfiends, and probably 2 Forgefiends supported by a boosted Warpsmith holding down the main firing lane, and maybe some Venomcrawlers. It might be a lot more spicy if Obliterators get changed from infantry to Demon Vehicle, there that +1 to wound definetly does some work, but as it stands now it is a fairly lame detachment as it realistically buffs only half of your army.

Moving and especially charging through walls with Maulerfiends is essentially all that matters. You will not spend command points on anything else.

Skarbrand's ears perk up, feeling the familiar presence of the Arch-Tempter. He gives a knowing grunt-- like he said, the Daemon would be back. Only, his scent isn't accompanied by the hoofsteps the Reaper knew. No, in it's place as the harsh stabs of metal and the clank of machinery. Skarbrand recognizes it immediately and is visibly surprised when he sees N'kari.

Soulgrinder N'kari.

Surprised enough to not react right away as the Arch-Tempter surges forward on myriad legs.

This is the great demon that N’kari chose as his lover.

Revel stares at the massive bloodthister with judgement. Must be because of the title. As much as N'kari claims to favor other qualities, he's a status chaser like any other.

Whatever. She'll bargain with extra souls on the reaper's behalf. When Slaaneth comes collecting, that'll be his problem.

Revel returns with arch-tempter, if it could be called such.

Her bemused God had refused the trade, but sent her along to the Forge of Souls. All demons know to dread the Forge. Rumored to originally be apart of Kharneth's realm, it exist now independent of the Four.

The Forge is uniquely despise and reviled by daemonkind. It's hellish artisans gifted with the strange ability to collect shredded spirits and bound them into Soul Grinders. The Daemon's crippled essence is imprisoned to a warp-metal frame, it's only purpose collecting enough souls to free itself and restore its original identity.

Slaaneshi soul-grinders, unsurprisingly, is the most numerous. The Prince has the least amount of Aethyr to work with, and the queue for reincarnation spanning millenniums. Many a demonette find themselves trapped in these dreaded half-machines, unable to pay their 'debt' in full.

Revel is furious. With N'kari for being an impulsive idiot. With Skarbrand for killing his partner over pettiness. With Slaaneth allowing the Forge to get a hold of the keeper's soul.

The Soul-grinder that follows her dutifully is massive, larger than normal. Each grinder is uniquely grotesque in it's design, and this one no different. Its armless torso ends in heavy warp-metal legs. Broken horn stumps adorn the hairless head.

Upon spotting Skarbrand, it clanks forward as fast as it could, making happy gasps with its tongueless maw.

Soulgrind on a square rail on the campus of the Amsterdam University. Used to love rocking my bright red Cola sweater, cause it popped so lovely in video and pictures. This was another one man mission to find shit to skate and shoot pics with my man Maarten. This was pretty dark but Maarten flashed just right, love the angles in this shot. That grind is nice too. The thing at the end was POSSIBLY a Daemon Engine, which have never gotten mentions beyond the lore - never had a model or anything! They're kinda like the mortal version of a Soulgrinder? They stuff a Daemon in a mechanical war machine to animate it c:

The battle behind them was a chaotic melee of carnage. In such close proximity, hemmed in by so many bodies, there was little room to manouever. Bloodletters hacked Ogres down by the knees and carved in behind their gut-plates and reinforced stomachs as their skulls were crushed in turn. Ogres were gored by rampaging Bloodcrushers as Rhinox stamped the life from Daemons. Flesh Hounds dragged Bulls down and tore them to peices.

And above them all, the Soulgrinder continued to wade into the thick of the fighting, tearing its way through the massive Ogres like they were little more than gnoblars themselves.

"KILL! MAIM! BURN!" Emil screamed from his slavering maw as he dived towards the towering Tyrant and his even larger mount to meet them head-on. He wasn't quite so consumed by bloodlust that he didn't see the beast's massive tusks, but if nothing else Khornates were known for their absolutely insane tactics (or lackthereof) even by the standards of other Daemons.

That's exactly why as the Stonehorn twisted its head to strike, Emil tucked his wings into himself and fell. The Stonehorn's sheer mass meant that Emile fell just within its guard, slamming into the Tyrant like a screaming, howling missile.

The impact was hard and brutal. The two were almost even in size, but it was debatable as to whether that mattered in practicality - or if the impact wouldn't knock them both sprawling from the Stonehorn's back.

Emil snapped his jaws towards Skragg, feeling fangs scrape the Ogre's cheek and scream over the metal plating. This close he couldn't bring his axe around comfortably, but he could grapple the Ogre's own axe hand with his inhuman, rage-enhanced strength and clamp down. His eyes blazed with fury and the air kept getting hotter as his bloodlust grew.

The Soulgrinder spoke first. Its twin rotary cannons on its right wrist sped up and roared to life as the Khornate Daemon raked the charging line of Rhinoxen. Several Ogres were knocked from their mounts and several Rhinoxen had their legs taken out from under them, rolling into the sand.

But most kept coming, unable to be stopped, and that was exactly what Emil had wanted.

“KILL THEM ALL! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!” The Daemon Prince roared as he took wing into the sky. The signal given, the rumbling grew louder in turn from the flanks. The Bloodcrushers stormed over the dunes to either side, snorting brass fury as the Daemons and their riders charged in for blood, thundering down towards the flanks of the charging Rhinox with E'ddi'e at the head. Flesh Hounds loped alongside, barking and snarling as they threaded amidst the Daemonic cavalry.

And in the meantime, in a display of rare tactical consideration, the Bloodletters did not rush the charging cavalry - then instead rushed for the sides of the slopes made by the dune as the packs of Furies dove down on the charging riders too.

Neither Rhinox or Bloodcrushers were very manouverable, but that was the point. There wouldn’t be any time to turn or meet the onrushing Bloodcrushers mid charge. The impact was horrific; roars and bellows and the sounds of flesh and metal tearing as the cavalry slammed into one another. Some Bloodletters weren’t so lucky, having been crushed or bulled apart by the stampede but the majority now had their opening as they moved amongst the Ogres and their mounts, hacking and slashing and dogpiling alongside the others.

It was brutal and crude but it was glorious carnage non-the-less. The Soulgrinder waded in, laying about itself with its massive flaming sword and powered claw.

Emil, meanwhile, gestured with his axe towards the rotund form of Skraag atop his mount. The air surrounding him literally shimmered with the heat of his bloodlust as he bellowed a challenge.

“YOUR SKULL IS MINE TO PUT UPON THE THRONE, OGRE!”

It was always a surprise to see Artillery pieces within a Khornate army and Skraag was suddenly very glad he his mount was slower than the rest. Bullets ridden the Rhinoxen, felling them when they struck true. But the dread were knocked aside, mulched below stampeding hooves. Flesh and Choas Hounds alike were crushed between brawny bodies and tossed in the air with breakneck force by lucky swings of horned heads. Only the Bloodcrushers, smaller but still beasts of unyeilding metal and rage, were enough to give the woolly creatures and kind of pause.

Agrik approached on his mount, now eyeing the Soul Grinder with true intent after witnessing the sheer damage it could do. Oh yes, that thing definitely had to go. A storm of Ogres Bulls ran past him to join the fray and as they did, he harnessed the winds. The Lore of Malal surged forth, manifesting on every club, blade, and spear weilded by their forces. Smothered Rage would rob the Bloodkin of their famous fury and their lives would be taken from them next!

The armor clad Skraag had only occassionaly flicked his eyes to the absolutely blender of bodies that was the Rhinoxen and Juggernaut collision. He had seen the Daemon Prince and known Khorne’s children well enough to know it would target him first and foremost.

“C’MON THEN BLOODWHELP!” Bellowed the Tyrant, his Stonehorn roaring soon after. “ I SEEN GNOBLARS BIGGER N’ SCARIER!”

It charged, with all the brutal force to sunder a cliff face. With a swing of it’s head, the beast’s curved horns screamed at the Daemon Prince with enough speed and force to cripple!
