Sophitia: Elegance in Combat by Jade Gretz

Sophitia Alexandra, bathed in the ethereal glow of the full moon, stood poised on the precipice of Mount Myojin. The frigid night air whipped at her scarlet cloak, sending shivers down her spine. Yet, it was a welcome sensation compared to the creeping dread that gnawed at her soul.

The legendary Oracle had spoken – a darkness stirred within the heart of the mountain, a malevolent entity seeking to disrupt the delicate balance between the human world and the Astral Chaos. Sophitia, chosen for her unwavering spirit and mastery of the divine sword, Omega Soul, had answered the call.

The climb had been arduous, a perilous trek through treacherous paths and tangled undergrowth. Yet, here she stood, before a colossal cave entrance, its gaping maw a gateway to the unknown. Taking a deep breath, Sophitia steeled herself, her hand tightening around the hilt of Omega Soul, the holy blade humming with a faint blue light.

Hesitantly, she stepped into the cave. The air grew heavy, thick with an oppressive silence broken only by the rhythmic drip of water somewhere deep within. The darkness was absolute, so thick it seemed to absorb the moonlight that dared to peek through the entrance.

Sophitia activated Omega Soul's inner light, the azure glow illuminating a narrow passage that snaked deeper into the mountain's belly. With a resolute nod, she ventured forth, the cave walls closing in like the jaws of a monstrous beast.

The passage twisted and turned, leading her deeper and deeper into the heart of the mountain. The air grew colder, and a strange, metallic tang filled her senses. The once-solid stone walls seemed to pulsate with an unnatural light – a sickly green that crawled across the rough surface like a malevolent infection.

Then, she heard it – a low growl, a sound that vibrated through the very ground beneath her feet. It sent a tremor of fear through Sophitia, a primal instinct warning her of impending danger. She quickened her pace, her heart pounding against her ribs.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, @chacusha !!!!!! Thank you so much for the lovely drawings!!! I also decided to make you some tirpyr and funnily enough, this is also my first time drawing them together. I haven't drawn anything soulcalibur since middle school because I'm very much a perfectionist, and it's my favorite thing in the world. I had so much fun finally drawing tirpyr. And I hope you like them too!

Phew! Feel like it took me forever! The 2nd of December is the date of Hwang's return. I just finished this (big! 😱) drawing began on July and wanted to mark this anniversary.

You can find below some stages of the creative process. Remember that creation in any form takes time 😉

Struggled hard with the eyeball part. Wanted to represent a bloodbath scene with sepia ink but made a total massacre of the first try 😱 The bloodstains seemed too unatural to me so I had to redo it twice... 😩 The inking process already took me a week for each version. So I decided to take my time to finish this huge piece because if I rush again, I restart again. And this was AB-SO-LU-TE-LY out of the question! 😬

I redraw the "vision" on another paper apart that was added afterwards on the final piece (and also had to do the same for Hwang's hair 😩) I used a loooooooot of references to draw the multiples nightmarish scenes. I borrowed the invasions scenes from the manga Samurai Deeper Kyo and photographies from a friend who traveled in South Korea for architectures.

🧿 Btw, did you noticed that Soul Edge's eye color changes depending on its wielder? Just look at the different versions of the curse sword for each character in Soul Calibur 2 or Nightmare's weapon from Soul Calibur 3 (it's violet since he's a phantom). 🧿
