soumaka dump from the past couple days... i love them so bad

genuinely this is in my top 10 ships ever possibly top 5, they're just genuinely soulmates and i would seriously kill for them. soul eater fans wya 😭⁉️?!!?!?

Day 29 - Fav scene / panel redraw

I used 3 shades of grey in this and was surprised how close to the panel my markers got. I can't tell you how much I love this scene. The symbolism, the stark angles, the Maka's power of friendship failing because she isn't ready to break the perfect student mold yet. The fact that Chrona vaguely remembers Maka enough to know they have someone they'd want to say goodbye to.

I love act of wrath Chrona. It's the version I cosplay the most. There's just something about them finally making their own desisions, making bad ones, and still having friends that care about them, y'know. I don't think I'd like this moment nearly as much without their bit of self reflection at the end. I know the sacrifice = redemption ending for them is very contenious, but I feel it was left with enough hints of them returning eventually that I'm at peace with it.

Soul Eater Redraw (2022)

A pixel art redraw of my favourite page from Soul Eater. There is a palpable sense of tension building while Eruka and Free are getting closer to the Kishin. The page masterfully illustrates the anticipation, fear and rising danger by focusing on Eruka and her growing paranoia without using any dialogue or even onomatopoeia.

I like to imagine there’s at least one huge nerd at kamiyama in their third year and they’re always studying to get the best grades like really hitting the books & taking classes outside of school but they continually get the second highest scores and they’re seething with rage about it because the only person outdoing them academically is that purple fuck who never pays attention in class, is put in detention every week for blowing shit up and brings his whimsical ass gadgets to school. & he doesn’t even care about his status as the most academically talented kid in the grade. They’re planning on going into medical school or some other STEM field and he’s going into the arts.

Gonna go ahead and headcanon this is more than teasing on Marie's and Stein's part, and that Spirit definitely used his ability here to get chicks... (Also wanna headcanon based on his response that his actions weren't as dirty as people imply they are and he doesn't like the accusations.)

Also gonna headcanon that it was his ability to control a wavelength that had Lord Death assign him to Stein as a partner in the first place.

A really fun detail I love that I'm glad showed up in both anime and manga is how Spirit's blade shapeshifts to reflect his meister's soul when using special techniques. It becomes jagged and stitched when Stein wields him, it literally turns into the skull mask with an extra blade with Lord Death wields him (anime), he seems to gain new abilities (i'ma firin' mah lazer!) when other random meisters wield him, and then of course............... Nah I'm not gonna say it just in case someone hasn't read it. But was that him reflecting that meister, or is that...his true form... Okay I hush now.
